Reviews of Vagabond Charlotte Street
P. J.
Great experience. All the staff were so amazing and friendly. They all have knowledge of the wines and went quite in depth if asked. The wines were excellent too. Great way to understand the different types of grapes and figure out what you actually like, without spending a fortune
b. j.
This is a really love wine bar. Food is fantastic, great choice of wine and the service lovely too. However, I think it’s just a tad over priced. It was about £60-65 for 4 glasses of wine. Great place for a date night but certainly one to do just after pay day.
K. B.
Great wine bar with a huge selection. Popped in for a few late drinks and it wasn’t too busy. Decent snacks available too.
M. C.
Love the concept of this place! I've been here a few times now and really enjoy it. You have the option to have just a small taster of the wines (for about £1 - £2) or to dispense yourself a glass small/large. They offer a good selection of snacks too. The place is well kept. I wish there was abit of music playing to make the atmosphere. Otherwise though, it's a great place 😄 Best to book in advance as it can get quite busy!
V. K.
My friend & I visited Vagabond, Charlotte Street over the weekend & we would like to thank Andrew & Corran for accommodating us with a table even though they were fully booked & putting up with our goofiness! They probably thought we were mad, however, they were very friendly & professional. Also a huge thank you to Andrew for not eating my pasta! He knows what I'm talking about, haha :)
K. B.
Really cool concept for a wine bar. Your download the app, lodge your credit card, and order/pay/serve yourself through the wine machines. Food is good, as well. Great place to come with friends to try some unique, “different” wines that change regularly.
C. L.
The staff are incredible, can’t do enough for you, the wine is sublime and I can’t say enough on how exceptional the experience is. Fully recommend:
G. R.
Great for trying a range of quality wines without getting too wrecked. 50ml tasters were great and self service was fun, choosing different bottles.
Z. G.
Ryan and Andrew are fabulous and I love this vagabonds as much as thr Paddington one
D. C.
Absolutely amazing place, if you like wine and are looking for somewhere unique then well worth a visit. Great selection of wines and a cozy atmosphere
N. m.
Had the absolute best experience here yesterday. My friend used to work here hasn't been in years, went without planning as I just happened to remember its existence. The atmosphere is great, you can hear each other talk but loved the music too. Most importantly the staff were so great, we were served by Camilla who helped us technophobes out when we were struggling with the app and she was very generous letting us try the different wines! Which were awesome by the way and went so well with the delicious food we got (cheese and meat mix...oh and definitely go for the truffle chips) Matt was also super helpful and friendly and we thought his outfit was so epic but I was too shy to say... Such a lovely place would recommend to anyone, even if you don't drink! Thankyou guys😊
B. M.
Great service and of course an excellent selection of wine. Doing their best until the pubs and bars can open. Keep it up!
N. P.
Great concept buy a card and try different wines
P. T.
Lovely relaxing place with an amazing concept to wine tasting. Service was excellent and the food we ordered was a perfect accompaniment with the wine. Kept my wine card as i will be back soon!! 😉 Being in retail myself, I did witness a rude customer and the waitress (naturally friendly french girl Erica-with a good knowledge of wine) dealt with it in a very calm orderly way.
W. S. J.
Corran made us feel very welcome, great service and a great spot!
A. D.
This is such a good concept for a wine bar. So many to choose from, which makes it hard to decide, but once you do the bill will rack up pretty quickly. The food/snack options are pretty good too, just remember to make a booking if going at peak times as it's not really a bar where you can stand around.
S. L.
Definitely book a table for Friday nights. The boys serving the tables were super nice and helpful. The wine is reasonably expensive so you get to try maybe 3 without spending fortune. The atmosphere was nice and it was possible to have a conversation even though it was quite loud in there. Would definitely go again
C. E.
The concept is great: 100 reasonably-priced wines available by the glass in self-service machines. However, we tried taster glasses of a number of the wines, and frankly, they were all mediocre, and in some cases, genuinely bad. There weren't any wines that were particularly interesting or unusual, and the classics were just poor. We also went to Vagabond after dinner, so were hoping to have some dessert wine, but they don't have any.
We expect a place like this, that has clearly invested a lot in the machines, to showcase better wines.
If you're looking for a place to grab a drink with friends, it's just fine. But if you're looking to taste different wines, you're significantly better off at the Sampler in Islington or South Ken.
B. W.
You get a card (£5 deposit) which you load up with cash (you're refunded any you don't spend). Then you wander round and check out some lovely bottles of wine which, using a process of magic and witchcraft, can be purchased in either trial, medium or large glass size (in addition to by the bottle). This means you can try all sorts of different things without having to invest in a bottle blindly. Staff are delightful and happy to direct you to wines you might enjoy (and were good enough to provide some tasters for me). Great atmosphere, a few comfy chairs towards the centre of the room, tables for groups who are eating towards the rear.
J. M.
Great selection of wines served through a very convenient way to taste as many as you would like. Bottles are spread throughout the space. You use a prepaid a card to take tastes or half/full glasses. Of course tasting all night will run you a large bill, but that's the cost of variety. Try a few, buy a bottle you like, and you're in for a nice evening.
The food is really good too. It's all simple fare, but well prepared and well-paired with the wines. Don't miss the arancini, which while rich, are light, avoiding the plodding stodginess that often serves as their downfall.
J. M.
Cool concept, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and a great selection of wine and snacks...and you don't have to be a sommelier to enjoy the experience; pour yourself a glass at your own pace and price range. It can get quite busy in the evenings so it might be worthwhile reserving a spot for a special occasion to avoid disappointment. (2017)
S. E.
Fun concept where you top up a card and then get your own wines with what in my clueless opinion seems like a good choice of wines. Prices tend to be on the high side, but that's to be expected in that area. You can get small small tasters as well.
Staff were overall friendly apart from one guy - when we arrived he told us to sit at a particular table even though we pointed out that it looked like someone was sitting there because there was a handbag, and he just said very disinterestedly "I don't know whose that is". A few minutes later we had to have a rather awkward conversation with another guest who had just gotten up to get more wine and found us at her table. Okay, no harm done. But that same guy didn't tell my friends who had just gotten themselves a glass of wine that they were closing. When he remembered, he was just plain rude, clearing everything we didn't hold on to from our table, telling us in a very brusque way that we had to leave and giving us the evil eye, even though it wasn't closing time yet and three tables were still occupied. I understand, at the end of your shift you are tired and probably drunk, and you wanna go home, but learn from your colleagues and remember that you work in the service industry.
On another note, some fellow guests got rather loud as the evening progressed. That's not the venue's fault, but just people who tend to drink too much...
D. B.
Wine by the glass in wonderful surroundings in Charlotte Street - And great tapas style (small) plates.
K. M.
Excellent choice of wines and lots of opportunities to try new things. The concept is super fun and I have brought various visitors to London here and they really enjoyed it. Perfect for catching up with friends.
C. F.
I love the idea of putting the wine on display and being able to choose for yourself. The food boards are quite generous so I liked that too. The only thing that I didn't like was that you cant really taste the wine, or you'll have to pay for it.
P. T.
Fantastic wine selection! It changes constantly so there's no menu, but the range leaves nothing to be desired. Prices are on par with the area. Atmosphere is pretty cool too, no frills but warm.
r. s.
One of my favorite wine bars in London. Always a great atmosphere and the service is excellent. Love the self service model that allows you to try multiple wines in an evening, and the food is delicious with a great cheese selection.
J. V.
Just the place I was looking for after a hard day in the office :) Wine selection is good and food is interesting and tasty. I love the dispenser concept, though it does make me drink more wine :) Nice crowd too.
E. T.
Great atmosphere with lovely seating, music and lighting. Very welcoming (not snobby if you aren't a wine expert) and have the freedom to choose wines at your own pace. Great little food menu which complements the place and nice staff.
J. G.
A busy but well stocked serve yourself by the glass wine bar. You put a deposit and some cash on a card and use that at self service chillers. A button push will fill your empty glass and debit the card. Bit pricey, bit crowded (I think some people had booked tales), but worth it. I can't speak for every wine, but mine was a great selection for a summer evening. They are a very fitting establishment for Charlotte Street.
D. H.
Nice place in Fitzrovia, so many wines to taste!!
Been there with my boyfriend and a couple of friends the staff was friendly and very helpful and knowledgeable about their selection; we will be back.
L. B.
A great choice of wines ranging from £25 - £125 per bottle but you can dispense 25ml to try for a small price or 175ml glass or buy the bottle. Tapas style food includes charcuterie boards, cheeses, olives, small tapas plates and sourdough bread. A little bit pricey but a nice place to go for a change and something different
T.
Fun concept and good way to taste a few different wines. The sharing boards are nice for some food to pick at. The downstairs has a good feel, very cozy with comfortable armchairs.
L. M.
Vagabond is a cosy-yet-chic wine bar on a vibrant street, nestled off Tottenham Court Road. Upon entering you are given a card that you can top up and spend as you will, dispensing your chosen tipple into a glass in increments of either 25, 125 or 175ml. The wines, which are displayed around the room, are well chosen and seemingly all delicious - I attended in a large group and every wine that we selected was lovely! Each bottle features a small tasting card with some information and so the experience feels both informed and a little educational, as well as a great excuse to have a drink!
A. S.
Love the concept and range of wines. Very knowledgeable service esp by Kamila who introduced the taster selections.
Will be back
T. R.
Great idea, but could be better to just out your own card in machines rather than have to pre load one. Cheeses we're great too. Great selection of wine an very helpful staff.
A. W.
Numerous wines to choose which are dispensed from a very intriguing machine. Great concept. Thoroughly enjoyed and plan to buy a few bottles. Very helpful staff
E. E.
Really good wine bar with a broad selection of wine. A fun place to visit for a relaxed evening in a great atmosphere. Often busy, but mostly possible to find somewhere to sit even without a reservation.
•. P. •.
Ideal for: a selection of wines in a fun setting.
This is maybe a second or third date spot whether you know wine or just loving drinking it. What I like is the variety - it's a great concept!
C. G.
I loved the concept of trying out different wines in such a dynamic and simple way . I had some delicious wines I’ve never seen before and I felt I learn a lot with the straight to the point cards each bottle has.
P. P.
The place is nice and the card concept is a very interesting one. However, I think prices are over the top. You cannot charge 13.5 pounds for a glass (125 ml) of Brunello di Montalcino. It's a really good and expensive wine, but this price is, in my opinion, outrageous. Same for many other wines. You can also find wines at 5.5 pounds the glass but they range from nothing special to not so good.
S. T.
Great concept, easy and fun. Wines seem well chosen, although be a little careful of prices. Food was good and accompanies the wine nicely.
T. I. V.
Excellent little winebar — great place for quick drink after work or a nice start of a weekend evening. Too many wines to make an informed decision yourself, don't hesitate in asking staff for their recommendations.
C. H.
Absolutely sensational night at Vagabond last night - The place was lovely and the staff were even better! Mimi in particular was wonderfully helpful and introduced me to a rose which blew my mind - Never thought I would enjoy a rose so much!
J. W.
Deservedly prize winning enoteca. The idea that you top up a vagabonds card for the night ensures that you probably spend more than you plan to, but with a selection of wine to taste as varied and well curated as this that's no bad thing. There are useful descriptions of each wine, it's origins and food pairings as well as the standard blurb and personal recommendations of the staff. They are super helpful and the sharing platters of meat and cheese are generously large and lovely too.
I. T.
I went to Vagabond in Paddington a few weeks ago and I am so happy to find one in Charlotte Street. It’s cute, clean and the staff is absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended!
R. G.
What do we pesky Londoners expect from a new place? Design? Service? Choice in what is offered? or price? Well, Vagabond seemed to have found, somewhat of a balance in all of those.
They have taken a corporate canteen experience and some how manage apply and to strike a balance with both the novice and experienced wine taster.
The only thing missing, seems to be a museum style digital guide explaining the wine, you are about to press a button, and experience. (yes why don't they do this beer, do we need bar tenders??)
For those who are budget conscious about how much you don't want to over spend this is a great concept. Pre-pay a card with your expected budget and press the buttons away :)
The lack of the 5th Star is because of somewhat chaotic payment system. Though conceptually its great; it takes way too much to serve a customer, for a self service concept, they ought to get things sorted out. And of course of, I am not sure, of giving everyone absolutely the option to experience wine without any explanation of what its character is all about is such a good idea. To me, it belittle the passion the wine makers poured into its craft being destroyed by those who just want a taste...well then again this is capitalism and a democratic part of the world after all..
There was no reserved seating, so it was more or less a first come first served basis, or find yourself a corner to stand just like at a bar.
PS: do try their Anti-pasti/Tapas types selections, bit on the expensive end but will go with your over glass of wine that you just pour yourself over a tap.
M. W.
Great selection of wines, regularly rotated, with up to 50 to try by the glass. Perfect for broadening your oenological horizons. All accompanied with expansive boards of cheese and charcuterie. It would get five stars were it not for the recent decision to deep fry the padron peppers side dish! Leave them be in their natural habitat of salt and olive oil!
H. H.
I really enjoyed this place. Huge selection of wine and nice self-service concept. I think it's worth the price. Tasty boards of charcuterie and cheese as well!

We had a great time tasting the fantastic wines of other countries and I also enjoyed “the wine Mireilla Eyes” broth with character, sweetness and sympathy above all.

Absolutely love this place! Good selection of wine, cheese, meat and veggie plates. We had so much fun trying different wines!
J. K.
Great selection of wines (red and white) and helpful staff who will walk you through their favourites and answer any questions too. Bottles available to order and to take away.
J. “. S.
A bit expensive really and the pre pay card is unnecessary. Great atmosphere, and wonderful wine selection. Really unique wine tasting experience. Worth a visit.
W.
Such an amazing place to have a glass of wine, couldn’t wait to reopen this place, staff was great and extremely helpful to find right wine for my taste..
R. I.

Fantastic choice if you want to try a number of wines on one night. They mainly focus on new world wines but there is a bit of everything there
O. V.
Nice bar with great atmosphere. Very busy with after work people on a Thursday night. Selection of wines is obviously very good
D. M.

L. B.

G. B.
Fun place to get a drink, even late on Sunday. Super attractive and helpful Italian wine guys, so even better if grabbing drinks with the gals!
V. R.
You can taste a very wide variety of wines and enjoy small dishes. A bit expensive but good quality
D. O.
It's great to be able to try wines before buying but massively overpriced. Selling a bottle for £22.5 where other retailers sell it for £13-£15.
B. C.
As everyone one has said, you buy a card for £5 and then top up the card with cash, pop the card in the machine and press the button of your selected wine simple,
That being said, if you don't put enough money on the card you have to keep going back, and if there's a que well you wait (remember to put at least £20 on the card)
And the other thing is the £5 that the card costs you as a deposit if you don't return the card they keep the £5 which is ok if your going back
But I feel they missed a trick and could have made the whole process so much easier by just using contactless payment and then the people taking the cash for the card could be on the floor telling people about the wine may possibly sell much more
Just my opinion was novel but why
C. A.
Fun little joint, great wines, good nibbles
P. S.
Great concept, you put credit on a card and self serve as little or as much wine as you like, so you can try wines you wouldn't have otherwise
E. s.
Love the concept here and the staff are really friendly, however there is such a big discrepancy in price of a glass against the bottle that if you are both drinking a similar drink it makes sense to just get the bottle which kind of detracts from the point of it really
T. P.
Ryan is a nice guy
E. M.
Great place to taste many wines without spending too much. Good selection of wines.

This has to be the best night out after pandemic restrictions easing in a really long time - Booked a big table for a work get together and the management was super flexible in terms of how deposits worked and number of guests beforehand. And during our night, the staff were incredibliy accommadating and friendly. They were so down to earth, the wines were fantastic, and the ambiance was just perfection.
If I could rate it more than 5 stars I would! Thanks so much, Vagabond,
and we will be back. :)
