Reviews of Walkers of Whitehall

I was in a party of 11, we had the bottomless brunch, it was lovely, superb. The service we received from the young lady was amazing, faultless, our glasses were never empty!!! Unfortunately, I didn't ask her name but wish I had so thank you again lovely lady. Highly recommend this place, I would certainly go again.

Interesting old pub located down a narrow side street that's easy to miss. The bar area on the top floor is attractive and not as mobbed as most of the pubs in this area, which is nice. Only had a pre theatre drink but there's a large basement dining area serving food. Service very friendly and prices good.

We had an absolutely AMAZING night with Julia and her fabulous team at Walkers of Whitehall. I can't sing their praises enough. We were a rowdy group of 34 and we booked the Downstairs Bar for our Annual Choir Dinner. We felt so looked after all night, the staff simply couldn't do enough for us. Julia answered all my questions super quickly and when there was a slight mix-up with the drinks packages on the group menu, she threw in two extra bottles of wine for free. The team thought of everything and even connected my iphone so we could have our own playlist. The food was EXCEPTIONAL and very good value for the price; I was particularly impressed by the beautifully cooked steak! The food was staggered by dish when brought out, but this was entirely expected for a group of our size and didn't detract from our night at all. I had brought four large number balloons and some other decorations and the staff very kindly agreed to dispose of them so I didn't have to worry. All in all it was a wonderful night for our group's Annual Dinner and in such an amazing location as well - and we loved the vaulted bar. Everybody who came said to me how brilliant a venue it was. I will definitely be coming back! THANK YOU to all at Walkers for a fantastic night.

Great pub in the heart of Whitehall with nice food and friendly staff. Pub is generally frequented by Civil Servants in the week so is often not too busy on weekends!

We dined here after a walking tour of London, was a really nice way to finish off the day! Filled the spot perfectly! Really nice Victorian style pub, good service and cheap too. £10 for fish and chips + a half pint of your choice (though that might have just been a walking tour special I'm not 100% sure) either way I'd recommend. The house white wine was also so nice and fruity but crisp
N. d.
Popped in for food and a beer and 2 wines , 1 had a beef sandwich with chips, and 2 had chicken sandwiches and chips, £50.00 , no cash card only
S. P.
The food and service here were great. Classic pub feel and food. The steak and ale pie was great. The fish and chips were tasty. We had three kids with us and the adults and kids were very happy eating here
S. M.
Popped in for some refreshments and food. Enjoyed a few sharing plates. Nice atmosphere with reasonable prices too 😁😁
B. T.
Ate here on our Strawberry Tours for lunch. Had the fish and chips and it was okay. For the tour, they had a lunch deal with an entree and half pint for 10 pounds. Clean place and it's dark inside. Nice bar area and good place for large groups.

PERFECTLY ADEQUATE FOOD... GREAT FOR THOSE WITH FOOD INTOLERANCES....”
My guest and I visited this restaurant as part of a Hot Dinners 50% off all food offering.
It's had a significant refurbishment since I held my Christmas party here back in the 1st week of January 2012 and not all for the better it has to be said. Lost some of the Victorian character of its predecessor.
Firstly though, credit has to go to Maina at reception, who really did go out of her way to secure a booking for me and demonstrated a level of pre-service for a venue I'd never encountered before.
My friend has recently turned Vegan and had arrived before I did and was surprised to find him looking at a ring bound folder when I joined him.
This was the venues menu broken down into every conceivable food intolerance, allergen or food preference you could think of. It was inspired and allowed very easy choosing for him (and as many of my readers know, me too on occasion).
I'd had a quick look at the standard menu and already knew that I wanted to try the Fish & Chips only to be informed by the waitress that the frier wasn't operational that night and that nothing deep fried on the menu was available.
Having decided what you want and then discovering you can't have it is the worst thing ever for a restaurant.
So I went for the Pork & Pistachio terrine with plum chutney (£7.50), the Chicken, bulgar wheat, fennel, chard & fresh herbs (£10.00) & the special of Sticky Toffee Pudding with clotted cream for dessert (£5.00) and we shared a bottle of red wine (Le Bosq Rouge 2015 Grenache at £19.00)
My guest went for the Charcoal baked beetroots, (without the whipped feta to comply with his Vegan diet) orange & walnuts (£6.50) and the Charred Cauliflower, tahini, golden raisin & pine nuts as a main (£12.00) surprisingly there wasn't a dessert option to comply with his diet but the waiter suggested an Espresso Martini Cocktail (£9.00) as an alternative (but charged us full price for it - as it was a dessert replacement felt he should have had a heads up about that).
The food was pub grub (not Gastro - but above standard fare) and was perfectly adequate. Obviously we felt we had good value for money paying £11.25 + £17 for our 3 courses respectively, but if we'd been paying full price we would have had to remind ourselves that we were minutes from Trafalgar Square and on Whitehall to justify the price.
As I say though, if you're in the area, are looking for a pub with a bit of character and want something a little bit above the other local establishments in the area then this is definitely one for you.
But if you suffer with any kind of food intolerance or allergy it's a must!

Lovely hidden jewel of a pub. Slap bang in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the tourists but very few know it’s here. Good food and drinks at reasonable price.
Lovely quiet place.
M. K.
Lovely traditional boozer with a good range of ales. I was the first to have Oakham’s Citra that day and my glass was filled with foam before the beer eventually came through. Would have preferred the bar staff to start in a clean glass once the pipes were primed. Didn’t clear well or taste great.
t. l.
Kind if hidden up an alley. Bit a nice place and the burger was actually amazing. I was genuinely blown away by how good it was. Will be back
B. D.
Good customer service and had a reasonable variety of ales to chose from. Lot's of tables and space to sit and it was good atmosphere.

Went here for bottomless brunch. The staff were so accommodating and friendly literally couldn't do enough for us. I've been to bottomless brunch before somewhere else and we had to keep asking for our drinks to be topped up. But not in this place. I never had an empty glass. The food was gorgeous and they had orange juice, raspberry and
passion fruit on the table so you could add to your prosecco. What a lovely touch. I will most definitely be coming back here again.
T. R.
A good venue for a couple of malbecs after work. Space to natter outside or cosy atmosphere indoors whatever your pandemic preference
M. J.
Soggy calamari but pretty good burger. Bonus points for being hidden down an alley off Whitehall like something out of Harry Potter.
R. R.
Decent pub. Nice decor, fast service. Quiet on the Saturday early evening I was there. Vast dining area downstairs. And I've not seen Watneys Pale on tap for years
D. C.
To be honest, there are better pubs in London. The food was compared to the value you get too expensive, the server slow and totaly crowded. The most confusing thing was, that the restaurant is in the basement, whithout any natural light... so if you want only to drink a beer, the pub is ok, but for lunch or dinner its better to choose another pub...
M. P.
Quiet, tucked away pub with cheap and tasty fish and chips. No seating outside but lots inside. Quick service.
D. O.
Lovely little pub tucked out of the way relaxed atmosphere friendly staff and great food too
D. S.
Nice place, nice stuff, nice cousine, but bad coffee. Caesar salad was very interesting, hummus was great. The place has kids menu.
M. W.
Lovely staff, nice food, cosy and great location
V.
Good venue for work gathering, staff are quite friendly as well. The restrooms are quite clean which is a win!
E. L.
Visited for bottomless brunch on Saturday 5th June. Food was beautiful, drinks really were bottomless (and we never had to ask for more, they just kept coming!), and the servers were very friendly and attentive. Bargain price of £39 for 3 courses and bottomless prosecco, would definitely visit again.
S. P.
Awesome "side street" pub. The waiters were very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. They even had gluten free beer! Great burger, 5 stars.
R.
Brilliant choice of food and amazing selection of beers.
S.
Lovely hospitality and staff. I had a good time
B. W.
Classic Whitehall pub that is regularly stacked with Civil Servants. Book a table and be prepared to wait to be served at rush hour!
D. B.
Food was better than expected and prices were very reasonable for this part of town. I would go again anytime! Photo is chicken and mushroom meat pie.

Good for after work.

Excellent.

Great environment
P. M.
Nice atmosphere, good food and service. I can strongly recommend their pies, but the burger is unfortunately bland.
J. J.
A good place for when your'e hanging out with friends, great seats. They have friendly staff, the service was great. Great selection of drinks and I like the bar snacks.
D. H.
We came here for fish and chips and hard cider while visiting London. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cute, and fairly quiet where we were sitting. We're American, so not exactly authorities on what constitutes really good British fish and chips -- but I was definitely impressed. The batter was crispy and delightful, and it stayed crispy even after I doused it in vinegar. The tartar sauce was excellent. The chips were fair, but honestly chips are never something I get super excited about anyway, so I didn't mind that. The waitress was very kind and helpful.

**update** The manager was very lovely and came over after the meal. In the end he comped the salad and was genuinely concerned that we had a poor experience.
Worst "caesar salad" I've had in my life. The dressing has less flavour than mayo and half the bowl was croutons to mask the tiny bit of chicken there was. The people I dined with liked their meals well enough but the server didn't check on us once even though we were the only table! Mashed potatoes saved the experience from being 1 star. Would not return or reccomend.
A. L.
This is literally across the road and down a small side street from where I was going to the theatre on a Saturday afternoon - excellent for a pre-dinner lunch or dinner
Friendly, prompt and efficient service, and I was able to have a tab.
Nice relaxed atmosphere
Food was really nice
Plenty of seating downstairs if needed
Great location and within easy access of Charing Cross Tube station
C. H.
A somewhat odd traditional pub in a very touristic area. It wasn’t too busy when I arrived, when nearby pubs were packed. I had a few pints and some food. All was acceptable and, to be honest, not being packed like sardines was very nice.
M. G.
Nice peaceful quiet pub stop at 14:00. After an hourish walk about London a pint and rest is what's needed. Priced appropriately. Not a lot going on but a few guests and low level music. Highly recommend if near by.
J. L.
Walkers of Whitehall recently hosted our engagement party and it couldn't have been a better experience. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the private bar was a great size for 100 guests having food and drink, would highly recommend!
F. P.
Service 9/10 very nice staff
Cleanliness 8/10
Food 3/10 had the Walkers platter with mostly burned cocktail sausages and overcooked calamari.
Looking for the outside this pub does not have any curb appeal but it's actually ok inside.
J. L.
If you're looking for a quiet little pub in walking distance from Trafalgar Square: this is the place to go. Hidden away down a little side street, this place avoids a lot of the tourist rush other places in the area can receive.
It's relative charm is a breath of fresh air for central London and the food isn't half bad either!
P. B.
Cozy pub tucked in a quiet corner at a busy place near Trafalgar's Square. The cottage pie was good. Fish & chips was among the worst in London. Mushy peas was about a teaspoonful. Pathetic.
P. F.
My colleagues and I used to descend upon this pub as one of the few drinking holes in the area that wasn't heavily tourist orientated. It can get very busy, especially on Friday evenings, but they do reserve tables in the lower floor bar.
It's a Westminster pub, and as such, expect closing at 11 on the dot, and fairly eye watering prices. They serve the standard draught beers and lagers, and a fair few varieties of wine, but the range isn't extensive. It has several distinct areas - two bars, and two restaurant areas - so there is generally a quiet corner to find if you don't want the loud bar atmosphere.
The decor is fairly tasteful, and the toilet facilities are nicer than most central London pubs. The food is a good option for an afternoon meal that won't be too crowded, but is on the slightly expensive side.
J. C. S.
A nice bar/pub with plenty of British charm, making it ideal for tourists and local civil servants alike. As you'd expect, the prices aren't low, but the character names up for this. Good selection of spirits and wine, some lovely quiet spots to sit and enjoy a private catch up (or political gossiping)
M. J.
Main was perfectly proportioned and tasted great. Guy next to me was eating steak which also looked tasty.
Waitress was good, came quickly when needed but not too clingy. Food came quickly as well.
G. B.
A nice 'quiet' place for a drink, close to the centre of London. Reasonably priced, given the area. Though I could do without having to tell the staff to stop putting a massive head on the pints I ordered.
J. R.
There seemed to be a lot of locals here. I really liked their Gin and flavored sparkling water cocktails. Fish and Chips were good and service was great!
J. P.
Easter Monday, nice and quiet. Really friendly chatty staff who are happy to offer advice on your day out. Reasonably priced for the location and very good quality. Great selection of beers and ales and a good menu.
M. L.
Lovely quiet pub off whitehall with excellent beers on tap. Great pork bites, outstanding and friendly barman. The calamari were a little bit too greasy though
A. T.
Had a quiet meal just yards from the busy streets. Good service, fair prices and excellent quality. Beer wasn't bad either!
M. T.
Decent pub with a quirky layout. I visited after the London 10K and both bars were hosting charity receptions so it probably was a bit busier than usual. Prices were ok considering the location and there was a decent selection available.
Our group ordered food which was a bit hit and miss. The fish and chips was a good choice as was the chicken panini however other paninis didn't quite come up to the standard and someone was charge £5 for a toastie that was basically half a baguette with ham covered in melted cheese!
If you are in the area and want a drink you could do a lot worse however you should probably eat before your visit
H. S.
Nice little wine bar. Good location if you are sightseeing in central london however I wouldn't make a special visit. Unfortunately there is no outdoor area though you can hover around a car park - classy! Decent selection of beer, ale and cider both on tap and bottle. White wine by the glass expect to pay £7 + Food was served quickly but again not to be raved about. The toasties and sandwiches were all ok, served with fries. The fish and chips looked more appealing but again with the HUGE selection around the west end stick to a drink and move on.
O. B.
Expected a great pub with good. In reality got much better from the second you walk in. Fitting for a higher-end restaurant.
Underground bar has a "5-star hotel lobby" feel.
Highly recommend it.
J. T.
I went to eat here with my husband on a Saturday and it was so-so. The food wasn't that great, but for a half-price offer it was worth a shot. The weather might have affected my mood though as it was cold and raining outside.
C. W.
A hidden gem just up from Trafalgar Square. Nice pub lunch in the cool of a basement bar. Excellent service, reasonable prices, well worth looking out for.
I. F.
My fish and chips was amazing.
The rest of the family said the same of their food, and the staff was so friendly and helpful.
It was such a great experience.
K. W.
We looooved this Pub.
My boyfriend and I come here whenever we're in London.
It's never to busy, it's not drenched in football fans and suits.
It's just a really relaxed atmosphere that we enjoy after a long day browsing the city.
Downstairs they serve the typical pub food that I love so much at a good price and after eating you go upstairs and enjoy the great british lagers and brews. If you are looking for THE british pub experience: Walkers of Whitehall is the place to be.
Thumbs up, guys. You never fail to give us a warm welcome to one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
S. L.
Great little pub tucked away off Whitehall, no frills, great service
M. R.
Spectacular place for food and drink. Top notch staff. I would put this at the top of my list of places to eat when I am in London. Short walk from Trafalgar Square and the Thames.
D. K.
Very nice. Also very friendly personnel and suitable with Kids. Cheap prices, big portions. Fisch & chips for less than 6£. 👌 amazing taste! W-LAN available.
L. M.
Fantastic service and amazing food
P. H.
A cosy place and a great spot to retreat from the cold. Staff are firendly but food needs improvement. The burger was good but more or less everything on the sharing plate was deep fried.
T. G.
Cool pub down the alley from the main drag. Quaint downstairs restaurant area for a quiet bite to eat. Food very good - excellent service.
S. H.
Great place to stop for a thirst quenched if you're marching on Parliament. Lacks the character and quality of a Bree Louise but unlike the former, it's not likely to be knocked down to make way for an expensive political vanity project and it does do what it does, well (industrial scale supply of passable food and drink, in the West End fashion).
J. R.
A classy pub that is usually more quiet than others, probably because it's quite hidden away. London prices but very comfortable. Great staff.
J. B.
For shame this place was a haven on Whitehall as it's set back 10 metres from the main road and seemingly immune to tourists. Sadly the refurb has left us with real ales now costing over a fiver and not much else. However, it is good for ambitious civil servants wanting to jabber nonsense at each other.
A. O.
Okay pub. I ordered the fish and chips and Shandy. The small portion of the fish was a bit raw and the drink came in a 6 oz glass.
C. W.
Great food. Great pub. Don't miss abd very close to Trafalgar Studios.. Taste of Honey. Fab x
R. C.
Just had one pint because of time, good atmosphere, but the entrance hall smelled a bit like a toilet.
W. C.
Good food, beer and wines.
B. R.
A surprisingly okay pub for the location, so if you're unavoidably in the area it's better than nothing. Standard drinks at only slightly higher than standard prices. Good, old-school pub feel.
R. H.
Very hearty meal. Good beer on tap. We ate here before we took the Ghost Bus Tour.
D. G.
Nice pub, friendly staff, just squeezed us in for last orders too, even though they didn't have too..
B. W.
Lovely little pub tucked away in a side street off Whitehall. Good choice of beers & whiskys. Excellent food.
C.
Nicely tucked away and they do a good Old Fashioned. Basement bar is well set out if you're there with a big group.
T. D.
Amazing service, amazing food. It must be said this is my favourite pub in central London, the staff are polite, the service is fast and delicious. A must if you are visiting London!!
H. M.
If you want to discover the beauty of every place, you must walk around it. When you walk, you cans find new places. The Walkers of White Laddies is one of this places, you enjoy it walking around.
D. S.
Lovely art-deco bar, located right in the centre of London. A great spot to rest after a decent walk around the capital.
l. s.
Nice surprise for a downstreet pub, quiet, pleasant atmosphere, food- good, but no such a great variety, friendly staff and very clean bathrooms . I recommend !
M. B.
Great ale, reasonable price for London, not too crowded, and great bar service. Oh, and the snacks were awesome.
J. O.
Good cider. Fish was good! Loved the mushy peas! Great location just off busy street.
I. M.
The service was great. The beer I had tasted either old or the lines were dirty.
E. F.
Solid pub food, fair beer selection, easy to seat a big party on a popular night
M. K.
Good pub, nice beers on bit pricey but its on the tourist trail so can't complain.
G. W.
Bar tender was very friendly and helpful for tips about London, definitely worth a visit
S. E.
Surprisingly good.. but the toilets were out of order. So rather inconvenient and this should be better signposted.
Otherwise, nice place.
G. W.
This is a gorgeous pub just off Whitehall, you can get a table at 7pm despite it being central, the red wine smooth
R. S.
Very nice upmarket bar with excellent selection of alcohol and food, excellent decor and a welcoming environment, would recommend.
R. K.
Went here with my partner after recommendation from Mr. Hyde and absolutely loved it. Great venue, friendly staff and good food.
A. C.
A great joint in the heart of touristy London that doesn't break the bank. Don't be fooled by the weird entrance, this place is well worth your currency.
T. L.
Understaffed, but very good bottomless brunch, one person working for the entire floor, had to be everywhere at once!
T. K.
Nice Pub. Fish and Chips 6£ and very tasty. Central location. Friendly staff.
R. G.
Tasty Shepard's pie but okayish fish and chips.. the apple cider was nice
G. H.
Had Xmas Lunch there.... best one I had all year! Fantastic pub and staff, highly recommended!
D. B.
Very pleasant pub, with a quirky layout. Both bars can quickly become crowded, average prices for central London
s. b.
Nice bar, but far too busy. Not enough bar staff in ratio to customers
D. H.
Worked nearby and this was always my local pub. Much less touristy than the others in the area, gets less crowded and a nice selection of beer.
S. G.
Great pub just tucked away from the busy streets. Staff were great
M. P.
Nice looking spot, nice service but had two different pieces of fish that we're very poor quality and not likely actual cod.
V. B.
Good fish and chips, a bit away from the main road so less crowded.
B. M.
Nice pub. Busy and bustling. Might be a bit too noisy for some.
S. M.
Very good beer selection. Not so crowded and prices are normal. Try it if you are in the area.
D. W. T. L.
Quite, nice pub. Decent food, welcoming staff.

C. M.
Very good, pleasant place, and good staff. BUT called last orders at 5pm!!
D. J.
The ambiance and Staff was good but the food wasn't outstanding
B. S.
Not as special as it should be. High price for drinks and not enough staff and 1 was very unhelpful.
J.
Have a nice lunch here ☺
B. S.
Not very welcoming, seats hard to come by and went to sit in another area and was told we couldn't and only because I insisted did the team member let us sit down
D. K.
Good food and drinks but watch out for a service charge when paying for the food..
M. B.
If you're in the Whitehall area, this is an option among the public houses in the vicinity.
A. H.
Nice place set away from the main road. Doesn't normally attract a lots of tourists.

(Translated) A pub near Trafalgar Square in London.
The shop is in the basement, but it is quite large.
I participated in recruiting sightseeing tours around London and was taken here at noon.
I ordered fish and chips, which would be a specialty. As usual, I don't know how delicious the green sauce is.

(Translated) We went with the tour we did in London and the truth is that for 10 pounds each we were very happy because for this price you don't usually eat.
We ordered fish and chips and meatloaf and were quite full along with a beer.
A good option to eat.

(Translated) The sandwiches were great with plenty of content
I wonder if the shake of the cocktail is pretty and I shook it so much, if I asked to take a photo and asked for permission, it would be fun to be full of humor saying, "Let's have five stars review :)", like a back alley By the way, it is a difficult place to find but a very good place

(Translated) A very pleasant pub, a stone's throw from Trafalgar Square. Its location (in a small alley, room in the basement) protects it from tourists, although a lot of locals still know the address. Good, unpretentious British food, with generous portions and fair prices. Nice and fast service, typical atmosphere, we had a great time and ate well.
(Original)

(Translated) I got to the pub via google map. Searched near Trafalgar Square. DELICIOUS! Nice staff and environment. Ordered a 6 hour stew bull. My wife took cod with mushrooms. I repeat, but it was sooo tasty. Drank cider, served by Bulmers. The portions are average. I liked the food here and wanted to compare Fish & chips. I ordered it and was not mistaken. Here is the most delicious and 3 tasted by me. The worst one was near the London eye. It was delicious on Oxford Street. And here it is even tastier, although the portion is 20% smaller. I recommend the pub. By the way, this restaurant is on the -1 floor😁
(Original)
