Reviews of Waxy O'Connor's London
H. B.
Absolutely amazing bar. Literally a Warren of staircases, levels, nooks and crannies. Every turn brings another surprise, another space another bar. Cannot wait to go back.
N.
The place is amaaaaazing from the inside. As soon as you walk in your will be like wooow I didnt expect that.
Good variety of beers.
Would definitely go again
Z. e.
After a reccomendation from a work colleague. Changed from our usual waxy little sister hideout and went to this pub. So amazing, need a map to navigate. Defo will be going back
R.
Ryan was an excellent bar tender. He took care of us at the bar. My wife was particularly pleased! Writing this to recognise his great service. Relaxed and speedy/efficient even when being super busy. Thanks for making our night that much better. 👍

A 'must visit' pub in London. I don't want to spoil the discovery for you, it's very nice and unique, right in the center of London, 'under' China Town.. You just need to go and know it. It's central so if you want to be quiet, go on quiet week days.
R. V.
I love this noisy place for a pre-dinner drink. The customer base is so mixed you can see people from every layer of society mixed here in one melting pot.
M. d. C.
Visited first time yesterday ( 12th Feb 22). Saturday night and it was so busy, however once inside you will find your spot. Each hide place has your unique atmosphere. Definitely will come back again, highly recommended.
G. C.
Super cool pub, it is huge, has different levels and rooms inside, with a great atmosphere, it is worth a stop!
T. R.
We stayed at the W across the street. We had no idea this place existed until the night before we left. A mate had said let’s go for a drink. Wow! So cool. We felt like we walked into a hidden city. Music… people… everyone having fun.
a. L.
Never have a bad night in waxys. It's always busy but it has great live music. Just don't be annoyed if you get beer all over your shoes.
R. D.
Great day out, watching the Six Nations rugby. Bar staff and beer were excellent, despite how busy it was. The only reason this is not 5 stars is one overly important manager who kept moving us on from an area where we were not causing any problems.
L. B.
Wow! what an unusual pub, we popped in just for a pre show drink early afternoon, it was quiet at the time, there's a huge tree (not a real one) in the middle of it and like branches and roots there were rooms spread out everywhere and on different levels too. After using the toilet, almost had to use Google maps to find my way back! Staff were attentive and pleasant, will return with friends
K. H.
Great vibe and armosphere. Good prices as well as is very central. Live music it's amazing 👏
P. P.
Absolutely unique place, never been anywhere comparable. Very unassuming from the outside and even when entering what appears to be a small bar at the front. They've used every nook a cranny of space in here to get as many tables in as possible. Multiple floors accessed by several sets of stairs so not ideal for those with mobility issues and a no go for wheelchair users. Loved the wooden decor and all the unique features such as the pulpit and tree.
Very busy with standing room only when we visited early on a Saturday afternoon, no ouside seating available. 4 bars although only 2 were open so looses a star. Several screens showing sport. Staff were friendly and helpful. I believe they have live music on in the evening.
One of those places that needs to be seen to be believed.
I. S.
Easily one of the best pubs in London! Great Guinness, buzzing & fun atmosphere, gorgeous decor!
F. C.
What a cool Irish pub in London. You go down a couple levels underground into an all wooden tavern and I recommend having a proper Guinness. Very cool place to have a pint or two.
W. K.
Lovely and beautiful place...but seriously the music was so loud that I have lost my voice talking to my friend. And it wasn't even a weekend I got there on Thursday. It is a pub after all and the speaker was on top of us and they have put the music louder to the point it was uncomfortable. Had to drink super fast and leave. I saw one person asking to get volume down...ignored.
A. C.
Great layout and nice there's something like this so close to Leicester Square. This is close to M and M world and only has a small frontage so don't miss it. Initially when you look in it looks small but you walk down into the building and there's quaint seating situated around a central point with multiple bars coming off of it with a fireplace lounge area and a main bar at the bottom. Different types of drinking included more local beers as well as your typical beers ciders and spirits.
b. l.
Omg 💯recommend amazing place in church/ upgrade to a meet up point for everybody
W. S.
Great downtown pub in London!
Staff were very polite and helpful, always there to serve and give information about beverages and beers.
Highlight is the TREE that fits inside a part of the pub.
You should try and visit it, it worths it!
R. K.
The most impressive pub I ever been.
D. B.
I like the wood interior and the various levels and sections inside. It's a popular spot so expect crowds and noise. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with a doorman deciding to make up his own strange rules and enforcing them on would-be customers. I was alone and was told that they have a policy that no single people may enter 🤦🏻♂️ He couldn't explain why this strange 'policy' was in place, so I contacted their management for clarity, only to learn that there was no such policy. Credit to the general manager who quickly sorted it out.
M. K.
What an amazing bar with beautiful features, loads of little nooks to hide and enjoy the amazing ambiance and drinks served by lovely bar staff. It would have been 5 stars if only the security staff wasn't so condescending and shaming customers for wearing a mask. I wear my mask to protect you and your staff so best respect that I put myself in such discomfort to protect your safety. It ruined the experience a little bit but I'll definitely be back with hopefully more respectful security staff!
T. R.
Decent until we were asked to move from our seats to 'upstairs seating'. This was in the louder bar area where you can't talk and was also all taken, so we drank up and left.
M. K.
Great pub, superb interior, very beautiful and with Caffreys on tap, but soooo crowdy during weekends, that it's almost impossible to find a place to stand. Better to go on Tuesday or so
S. C.
Down to earth pub with a lot of space and seats however when it gets packed those tables are going to be hard to come by.
Got a good selection of spirits and beers not much on the cider front but that isn't the purpose of this pub.
D. J.
Hidden gem, though this place ja quite famous, but if you are new to London, you might not have heard of it.
So, this place is one of the best pubs in the area. Don't get fooled by it's main gate, there is one, two, three or more floors beneath. And it looks so different, and like an authentic Irish pub.
Bartenders are really helpful.
They play live Irish music till 10.30 at least (on Sunday I was there)
Very live place. Must visit.
A. G.
Great place! All the staff from the doorman to bar tenders were amazing and friendly, music was great too. Overall had a brilliant night here.
M. S.
Ingenious place, was completely surprised by the inside furnishing and uncommon room layout. Very interesting setting (cathedral) with genuine Irish staff. Came for a pint - stayed there for the cozy atmosphere and chatty, interesting people. Totally recommended!
A. L.
With multiple bars to choose from and live music, it’s a great place to grab a drink though its a bit of a tourist trap. Finding a table at any given time is a real challenge and when you do get one, you’ll hang onto it for as long as you can. Bouncers at both front and rear entrances do a good job of filtering unwanted elements.
S.
Every Thursday live music nights! Amazing space, very spacious, great vibes. Highly recommend for a good start before a long night.
A. M.
I LOVE this place! Since I went for the first time each time I go to London I spend time here. The decorations and the environment is super cozy and warming. The prices are normal. Usually this place is packed but it’s totally worth it!... there’s lots of kinds of beer and also ciders. The music is really nice and for sure you’ll have a great time. Waxy is a MUST!
G. Y. (. B. D.
This has been one of my favourite hangouts since I was 18, the decor is awesome. It feels like your in another time, with nooks for you to get some privacy but at the same time feel involved. Go, you won't regret it
A. K.
Very cool bar and interior. But you have to mind your head because its all very higgledy-piggledy.
A. F.
The best pub in the whole world! This pub is a magical place full of trees and woodpanelled walls. It has really great alternative rock music and a lot of old school favourites too. The pints are reasonably priced and the food is very tasty! The atmosphere in the pub really is so warm and inviting. Definitely worth a visit!!
A. M.
Great atmosphere and good live music, lovely place to catch up with friends and always some craic any time of the week.
D. E.
Great place for a drink and something to eat
T. T.
Love this bar very different decor to any bar I've been in a large tree! Lovely atmosphere staff nice. Have live bands on most nights.
N. H.
£7 for a small glass of wine, good value for location. Reminds me a tiny bit of the Harry Potter tents where the rooms just keep on going. I'm claustrophobic so wasn't great for me but a good craic!
D. R.
Nice pub for hanging out with mates, avoid for professional meetings. Can be full of tourists at the weekend.
G. R.
Lovely atmosphere. The musician on the night was amazing, thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Some people were dancing and there was a very happy and lively vibe. Just perfect.
Will go back for the sticky toffee pudding one day...

I. C.
The pub has a nice atmosphere but the food is overpriced and bad quality. My burguer was not well and cold unfortunately.
A.
This is an absolutely great place to drink and spend a night. The vibe is brilliant.
J. C.
Great atmosphere and a lovely Guinness! Bar food good. Can get busy after 6pm. Possible to reserve areas for private parties. Great selection of spirits. Different areas makes the place interesting.
T.
Amazing irish bar! Trying to find the toilet after having a few pints is a laugh in itself. Loved every minute there! Wee bit of fiddly dee on our trip.
J. F.
One of those hidden jewels of London. Pretty close to the center if you want a nice pint with a good selection of beers and tons of liqueurs for you to choose from. It’s an beautiful ant nest that opens into a cave of wood and amazing structures. With a touch of magnificent Irish and church like architecture inside. A really nice and warm pub to get the vibe of what it is like to have a pint in central London with you friends, always with a nice environment and food is normally quite good. The ribs are amazing!! If you are use to American ribs, as mostly all places in London they will be too small for you, but burgers and pies are good for a nice evening meal. A must to go pub if you are near soho or Chinatown.
J. T.
I love this place, it doesn't look much from the outside, but once your in, its great and on lots of interesting levels with stairs everywhere, great atmosphere and drinks are good too!
A. H. (.
The music is nice however it's overcrowded hard to find place to even put your drink. Also the bartender is not nice at all... She refused to refill a suit that had fallen in front of her unless I pay the price if a new one which is redicoulous but maybe it's the way for the Londoners..
Z. W.
Professional service, good selection of beers. The pub itself is beautiful inside with lots of lovely little spaces and areas to sit
S. O.
Pretty cool pub, well laid out, lots of floors and quirky places to sit. Good service, definitely worth a visit
V. G.
My favorite Irish pub !! This is a place that you MUST visit while in London. Looks like a normal pub from outside and then when you come in it’s just amazing ! Huge, it has many places to seat. Old church that has been transformed in a Irish pub, brilliant idea. The tree is beautiful and the decor is breathtaking. It gets busy in the afternoon/night. Bartenders are always friendly and up for a chat (when not busy). I highly recommend this place.
S. G.
Great location but paying tourist prices. Bar can be difficult to get served at.
E. G.
A real typical British pub. I went there with some Italian friends on a Saturday night. It was really crowd. Here you find a lot of small rooms, this pub looks like a labyrinth. If you love to what football and rugby games here you can find a big screen to watch it with your friends while drinking good beers
R. B. L.
Nice and huge pub. It is good to have a larger and enjoy its live music. Nevertheless, the food could be better. Their ribs are ok, but the fish and chips is really poor, with no flavour at all.
Y. A.
What a venue- great vibe! Enjoyed it a lot however found that the staff was quite rude at times. Either way, had a great time so will be coming back for sure
C. M.
The Guinness was okay not amazing, music wasn’t loud enough so the atmosphere was a bit more rowdy, might just have been where we was sitting but we couldn’t hear each other across the table!
L. M.
The loacation is beautiful but the food is not. I tried a Classic Burger, the bacon was burned and the meat was too cooked. The location is 5 stars but the food is 2, maybe 1.
T. T.
It's themed and is almost like a film set in here! Mainly wood with a very gothic vibe (see the pics). Lots of drinks on offer so get stuck in.
C. H.
Beautiful pub with so much flair! It seems to me, that might have been a church years ago, since the interior looks a bit churchy here and there (steeple, mural paintings). However, I loved the mirror wall and the tree that's inside. It makes it very cozy and unique. Waxy O'Connor's is definitely worth a visit while you're in London and it appears to be less crowded than other pubs.
B. T.
As tourist it was super cool to see the tree growing inside the back of the pub. Definitely not something you see in every pub or even indoors. Bonus, they have good grub and a good selection of beverages. Oh tons of and sports on the telly!
A. B.
1st time going there and it was to see a live performance. This is in the back of the bar and outside. I liked it and would go again when some other performance comes up that I want to see!!
R. F.
This is a really fun place. Traditional Irish pub with a great atmosphere, great selection of drinks, and live music. The place is enormous and can get very busy at weekends, but definitely worth coming to check this place out. You will want to come back again and again
J. E.
This pub is simply the best great atmosphere and really friendly with great themes and character. Always visit seen in London
G. R.
Fantastic fun and loud bar near Gerrard Street it's interior is a church theme with a large tree rising through each floor and many cubby holes to hide away in. Live music and a large selection of Ales
P. D.
Great drinks and atmosphere. Wish there was a bar like it in my own city!
F. “.
It was too crowded last week and they need a cloackroom at least now that is getting cold. It was a nice experience abs the live music was ok
M. T.
This was very happy surprise in London. After watching a play in Piccadilly, I was just walking and saw this pub with a good looking entrance and decided to check how were the reviews in the google maps. Indeed, the pub reaches the expectation with great atmosphere, good selection of beers and helpful staff. Unfortunately, I went on a day there wasn’t any live music, but will come back for sure to experience that portion of the place as well.
D. B.
Great place! Love the Irish music, Cold Guinness beer, brown interior and the kind staff🙂👌The atmosphere was great!
r. b.
Lovely looking place, easy to get lost in after a few...
Y. O.
We were so lucky to find such cool and amazing pub. Live music performance, friendly staff, a lot of different bottled and draught beer, no children (18+ age control), and really fantastic atmosphere. There were so much people, that some of them have no space to sit, so they were just standing and dancing with beer, and it was not a problem at all.
N. M.
Very close to an actual pub in Ireland, but was incredibly packed on Saturdays with limited room.
M. M.
What an amazing irish pub just off lecester sq! Its bit like a maze with few entrances and exits and also few stories within the basement. The atmosphere was great honestly will be comming back. Beer is a useful £5+ and of course they have nice selection of wiskeys too. Do visit you won't regret it
H. E.
Very unique inside. Couldn't get a seat for a while. Family love the guiness. Amstel or Warsteiner would be a nice addition though
S. G.
Had a fantastic night. Great and friendly service from Vicki and was wonderful to be welcomed back in by Victor after we left for dinner! The staff also found my lost bag which I can't value highly enough. I'm afraid I didn't get the host's name but had a great chat on the way out. Looking forward to my next visit!
L. M.

Recommended by a customer and wasn't disappointed. Really cool watering hole

Very crowded and noisy but given location not a surprise. It was good to step out of the rain but wouldn't hurry back
R. B. L.

Great hidden gem! Pricey beer but you are in Central London! Will always stop off for one
C. A.
Beautiful historic pub in the centre of London. Must visit.
I. S.
Lovely decor. Fairly low prices considering the beauty of the place and the location. You can even sit down by the wood stove, super cosy during the cold season! The bartender was really nice and had a good knowledge about the drinks they offer.
L. g.
Great experience, a bit like a tardis there was more and more areas ,all nicely decorated and laid out, friendly staff
K. R.
Still an amazing amazing place, its more than a pub. The live music is amazing, the atmosphere the staff put together is really nice. Huge selection of drinks, don't just look at the very short menu.
A. R.
Busy, music was great getting to the bar was tough but plenty of staff to keep serving.
V. c.
This pub is one of my favourite. It is huge inside and all in wood. Amazing to spend a night.
T. C.
Very warm and cozy atmosohere. Enjoyed the variety of drinks and the quality of this high level pub. I definitely recommend this place to bring your friends or companion to have a delightful time with a meal if hungry. I was very pleased with the service.
L. Z.
Ever wonder what Harry Potter got up to off camera ?
Well go here and your find out imagine a wooden tree that had a bar inside with all sorts of tunnels and rooms I literally felt like some lord of the rings / Harry Potter set was crazy cool Try it ...oh did I mention is MASSIVE inside 😅
P. T.
Great staff they make a good vibe we had chicken burgers lovely £6.50 a pint rip off but it is London
D. B.
Really nice Irish themed pub, good selection of drinks
S. O.
Love this place, always a good vibe amd staff are friendly
S. P.
Very crowded and noisy but given location not a surprise. It was good to step out of the rain but wouldn't hurry back
K. S.
last night was the first time we visited this restaurant. But It is definitely not the last time. We passed a splendid evening with the excellent service, with the high quality cuisine and fine drinks and with the comfortable cost. We will no doubt return there in a short time.
S. R.
Wonderful pub. The inside has many cozy spots and great decoration.
D. B.
Best pub in London. Fantastic atmosphere, perfect music choises rich beer options.
R. P.
You'll get lost on the number of floors this place has, great staff an fantastic drinks
G. “. F. P.
Stopped in a few times in my recent travels to London.. Great service and recommendation by the staff and an very cool atmossphere.
d. v.
It's a very interesting Irish pub,it's very big but always popular. It also serves food and good selection of beers.
It has a dry tree in the middle, which is cool. But it's a bit like a dungeon inside.
Y. L.
I always loved the decor of Waxy O'connor's...reminds me of Church, Irish pine and Cave like... Unfortunately...they did disappoint me this visit by hugging too many flags + even inflatable rugby balloon... I just hope " Sports Bar " look to go from it.
P. L.
Would be a good night out am sure. Only stopped for a quick drink. Bit loud for my mum 😂
T.
Pretty amazing as boozers go . Well worth a visit ,the place is like a subterranean maze 🙂
C. S.
Top drawer night at Waxy's. No table booked for the England Scotland game. They managed to squeeze us in, socially distanced of course and the staff were amazing. Hope to see them again soon.
D. K.
Great Irish pub in the heart of Soho. Deceivingly big as it looks small from the outside! A bit noisy for a quiet catch up but the perfect starting place for a big night out!
B. H.
Really good Irish bar, they have Tayto and pour a mean Guinness. Good number of TVs for sports
R. F.
Awesome Irish pub with an interesting interior, food is great and beer is awesome... Guinness Ofc ( :
M. C.
Busy pub disappointed that only one stout was available though I did go to one of the smaller bars in the building so maybe I didn't choose the right place to get what I wanted.
k. m.
Irish pub in the heart of London close to China Town and Leicester Square.
Has a almost gothic/church like feel to it with the dark interior and furniture with glass flooring that lights up.
Has multiple bars on different levels.
Price can be expensive but its worth it to experience this unique pub.
J. M.
Lovely bar with a natural wood theme with interesting decor. Fantastic multi level layout for both social and private encounters. Multiple access points and two big bars to keep it flowing.
C. S.
Love this cavern-like Irish pub hidden behind a tiny door off Leicester Square. It's great for a Guinness, they have the creaminest in London. Food isn't great, just standard pub grub and I think done better elsewhere. But grab a drink and marvel at the space - low ceilings, rustic stone decor and higgledy-piggledy floor levels give it a slight "entering the Shire" quality.
L. L.
Quirky pub on many levels, plus point is that it's over 18s only 😃😃 nothing against kids (have 2 of my own) but it nice sometimes to not have them running around.
C. A.
Beautiful historic pub in the centre of London. Must visit.
A. V.
Always great service, and live music, being St Patrick's week there was free samples of Irish whisky and a larger from the Guinness family, we visited on a Monday and it felt much more like a Friday night.
M. P.
Great bar, but so expensive for the same pint I could buy at at home
d. g.
Very good and huge area , there is live music , and decorations is good as well.
S. E.
Great pub and staff, where I sat there was a hole in seat with a sharp thing sticking out which I cut my leg on
S. F.
Great venue with a variety of nooks and crannies to tuck yourself away in and enjoy the live music from afar! Good selection of beers and great service at the bars.
P. D.
WOW....great pub...great atmosphere...worth an evening of anyone's day.
b. h.
Lovely staff, with a lovely setting, plenty of seating and Covid friendly .
B. T.
Great live music. Really interesting layout. Fun pub
N. R. D. S.
Enjoyed a couple of celebratory pints of Guinness here and really enjoyed the whole experience. A huge pub with so many cosy nooks and crannies, combined with great service made it a wonderful experience
M. S.
Its a great place for meeting friends. I spent a great time there.
T. Y.
Lovely cavernness away-from-the-city feel pub in central London. Lovely decor. Good cold beer, service slow and food very disappointing. No phone reception
M. C. D. S. C.
Authentic Irish Pub...really recommend. Great atmosphere and friendly staffs.
A. L.
Excellent irish pub with live music and affordable prices for drinks/food!
G. G.
Beautiful pub and delicious food 👌 Seriously worth a trip to London
S. G.
Really vool place, busy and loud most nights of the week.
S. m.
A lot of stairs to go down for a drink. A bit dark inside. Bar was reasonably quick. Lacked atmosphere. Toilets(hey) pic.
f. r.
Great atmosphere, nice drinks
J. V.
Great service and awesome atmosphere.
J. V.
Lovely pub to eat, drink and have a nice time off. We had been in the one on Manchester so we decided to go to the one in London too. It's an amazing place underground with a lovely atmosphere and competitive prices. We had a couple of burguers and pints and we'll surely return soon. Nice music, loads of different beers and decent food offer.
Upset of not going before after passing by so many times.
K. F.
We liked this place - it was fun and full of loud people.
P. M.
Great atmosphere, lots of choice on beers
H. R.
What a fantastic little gem in Leicester Square. The food is great, service is good and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you are in the area need to pick a place to eat then go to Waxys.
Z. W. D.
Nice place, bloody huge, nice people, short bouncer.
P. A.
The best bar in London. Nice atmosphere, beautiful people, live music, wide range of drinks and food. For sure I'll be back
M. W.
Been a while since I have been to this pub, it has not changed much over the years but I guess what's what I like about it, they have kept the traditional feeling to the place and it was a nice sort of busy.
Overall the atmosphere was friendly, a couple glass breaking incidents that made us laugh.
We had a nice corner area which was not overly packed.
P. H.
Huge pub, and with all the different floors easy to even get lost in. Very cool-looking place, but unfortunately on a busy night tends to be way too full and the music is extremely loud. Kind of takes away all the fun. Should probably try when it's a bit quieter and you can actually move around to explore all the hidden corners.
A. O.
Recommended by a customer and wasn't disappointed. Really cool watering hole
P. L.
I didn't know this place existed until my mate has told me about it. Great location, friendly staffs, great selection of beers in a huge space. There's even live music on certain days I was told. I will definitely be returning for more pints...
A. M. G.
Amazing Irish pub, i really enjoy the time there, with everyone, friends or family, dosen't matter. Awesome.
S. G.
3 floors very busy on Saturdays
Music is great
S. P.
The pub hosts live performances on weekend nights, good beer, nice food, great location ...what else?
G. d. O. G.
Amazing pub! Definitely one of the best places I've ever been in London.
T. S.
Despite its central location, I've always found this to be a good place to grab a quick drink or bite to eat. It's unfussy and unpretentious and you can't tell you're in one of the busiest parts of London whilst you're sat there. It has a lot to commend it!
C. E.
Massive place. Male toilets are fun, however, no where to put your drink whilst you use them.
M. D.
One of my favourite places in London. Live music with amazing singers. The environment is good and the decoration is different from other places (it has a tree in the middle of the pub!). Local beer and nice food to share. I really recommend it to go one Friday evening, live music at 21:30 p.m😊😊
V. M.
Very chilled out historical vibes inside, can't complain about anything.
T. M.
It is by far one of the bests pubs in London. Very easy to book a table (need to, it is always busy), very quick response from them. The place is amazing, good music, good drinks, the crew were always nice. Really quick to get drinks from the bar. I went with my friends and they loved the place as well. Recommend it to anyone visiting London, definitely a must go.
C. B.
Huge inside with a cool wooden decor, lots of tasty pints
J. T.
Perfect Guinness in London. Well poured and great bartenders overall. Food was decent, but I would say the atmosphere makes up for the decent food. Multiple levels and I would recommend heading straight down to back bar. Interior decoration is well done, music is fun and upbeat... One of the best Guinness I have had in London so far.
A. “.
Famous pub with a tree inside....multi level multi bar Irish pub right in centre of London.
I. S.
One of the best in London. Cool vibe, nice music, unique interior creating the perfect mood
U. Y.
Tourists and visitors to London should definitely go see this bar I always take friends visiting London here. I don't go out of my way but after a days sightseeing its a brilliant place to have that last pint before a pub closer to home. The last time I was in a place like this I was in Vietnam and it was for sure a health and safety nightmare. Full range of drinks and much much more. Upbeat friendly service. Pop music, not awful. Hidden nooks, go go go! Well worth a visit.
P. L. V.
Terrific pub with good atmosphere! It has a hole-in-the-wall vibe. Watched Women's World Cup Championship game and they set up additional screens for all the patrons. Food was traditional British/Irish but very good. They have many beers on tap as well as a good foreign selection.
P. W.
Good selection of beers and helpful, friendly staff in this pub that seems to have been a fixture in the West End for years. Liked the Camden pale ale particularly. It's deceptively large and seems to have lots of rooms and levels, but that might have been the effects of the Camden pale ale....
A. M. G.
I love this place. Great atmosphere, good place to watch the GAA. Only had the food once but it was delicious. Looks great on the inside too. Highly recommended.
d.
Amazing venue waaay too packed
L. M.
Amazing bar. Close to a touristic area but still local. Amazing and massive, you'll feel you're inside a tree.
P. O.
Cool Irish pub, worth checking it out for its unique interior. Atmosphere is lively. I would prefer a pint where the head doesn't disappear after a few seconds though, because Irish pints keep a good head. I'll give 5 stars if the pint was better. I tried the Heineken.
M. L.
love the place, service is always on spot. Maybe a little pricy but absolutely worth it
R. F.
This place is unique!
Nice Pub to meet friends with a reasonable selection of draft beer.
The food is nice but not the focus of the place.
The place is clean.
There is televisions in certain areas which usually are displaying live games.
It has a very unique style and it is enormous!
I definitely recommend.
K. E.
I really like this pub, although you'd expect a tourist mess here it's not so. There's a good atmosphere here. Live music and lots of drinks to choose from. Multiple rooms that do play different music so you can move on if you're not too happy with one area. It's really well themed as well and kept in great condition. The staff are friendly and quick on their feet to serve you asap.
N. P.
Waxy O'Connor's is a very cool place. This pub is gigantic and kind of a maze. It's a nice place to go, but the heating is on way too high in this pub. The food was pretty tasty although we didn't order too much. I would definitely go back to have a few drinks.
H. B.
Great pub to go for a quick drink or longer stays. Impressive selection of beers and spirits and good to watch sport in.
It's bigger than you'd think inside and it seems to keep going! Good history behind the building too, can get very busy and hot
R. M.
This is an extraordinary Irish pub. If this is your first time in London, this pub should be on your must see list! There are four bars inside with a great choice of draft beer. The pub is on a few levels and it is always very busy. There is live music in the pub, including Irish, energetic, folk music. The atmosphere is fantastic and when Iris music is on your legs move whether you want it or not :)
The pub itself is beautiful and the staff is very welcoming.
T. L.
One of the place you must visit when coming to London. The place is a huge and very quirky. It is a church who has been transformed into a pub. They also have live music and the artists were great! The vibe is amazing. Perfect for a drink after work with friends.
R. F.
Great pub with multiple stories / bars. Friendly staff and great atmosphere as well.
H. C.
It's a cozy place as the tradicional Irish pubs, but still a good option.
T. B.
This is a truly excellent location. It's visceral. It's very busy on the weekend but the atmosphere is bright and cosy. I can't even remember if there is music, it was so busy. There is tons of drink options but given this and how busy it is, expect to wait at the bar. However it isn't unreasonable. There are lots of little nooks and booths as well as many winding (possibly hazardous while intoxicated) stairwells. It's a dimly lit building but felt very safe. Also I can't recall if it was a real tree or a sculpture but in the middle of the building was a tree. It was impressive. Expect friendly shoving but it's a good, loud, rowdy night.
S. M.
Huge place, with loads of places to seat with friends and many bars. Went in for drinks on a Saturday night. Drinks are well priced. But the were low on staff at least the two bars I went to. Only one girl or two girls behind the bar meant a very slow turnover, waiting over 25 mins for a drink it's too much. The atmosphere was nice, but warning to those that hate stairs!!
A. A.
Fantastically lively pub. A great place for drinks after work, and particularly good to watch rugby. It's a maze with quite a few bars so be really clear where you're meeting your friends! I haven't tried the food but there's a good selection of beers. The Guinness is always kept well.
M. B.
Top! See you again next time...
U. S. A. J.
Great atmosphere if you want to go to a place where there's a crowd of people having fun with really loud music. The live band is a special treat that you shouldn't miss out on.
Amazing to hang out both with friends and on your own. 10/10 would recommend
M. W.
Excellent Irish pub. Go for the pintas Guinness and Chieftain IPA.
C. B.
Nice Irish pub close to Piccadilly Circus. Bigger than you expect from the outside. They have a nice interior.
I can't comment on the food as we only had drinks with a conference event.
The food looked good.
C. M.
Beautiful place! Food and drinks are average but the location is so much fun!
Y. E.
Cozy Irish pub. Warm and dark with a big TV up front for good futbal watching. Good beers on tap. The bartender was hilarious (and sometimes difficult to understand with his strange accent). Great place to hang before a show!
A. I.
Probably one of the most interesting pubs I've been to in London. The interior is gorgeous, has a lot of wood decorations including an actual tree. Has a live band, who have always been great so far and the pub has a great atmosphere. Even on Fridays when it's extremely busy, you still get served fairly quickly. Would most definitely recommend!
C. B.
This Irish Pub is great! The location is central and it reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. There are so many different areas to be seated and several bars all on different floors. The food was delicious. I shall be back!
L. M.
Lovely Irish pub with great atmosphere and not too crowded on a Thursday evening.
N. T.
Cool and friendly atmosphere, interesting interior and great beers.
M. M.
Lovely place, very good service and helpful staff.
C. M.
The music was very good the live player was amazing and the songs he sang were very popular ones. The bartender was a really nice guys the service was quick and quality. I had a great time there
J. P.
Waxy has a great atmosphere, it's an interesting building the staff are friendly and the live music is great. Food is very nice (especially the stew) although portions could be a bit bigger.
A. M.
Lovely irish pub, quite often there is live music. Teh decoration is beautiful and the pub is huge. Nice selection of beers and generally a great place for drinks so centrally. The only problem is that tends to be packed even on weekdays
A. P.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent beer :)
A. V.
Great place, huge pub on different levels. I've been there on St. Patrick's and it was awesome. There's always a long queue but you don't wait for so long. Drinks are good, a large choice of beers, you can try different rooms and choose the one that fit you the best. I liked the tree on the stairs that connect the floors.
S. B.
Multi floored experience. It was much larger than expected with nooks and crannies at every corner. The atmosphere was relaxed and jovial all night. The folk music was an added delight and helped to complete a good night out. Prices were average for location.
D. C.
Have been coming here since 90s..great spot guinness is decent staff are always friendly and accommodating.
A. W.
Great place, giant and some serious Hobbit vibes. Can get a bit busy as it's right in central but probably better than other nearby venues. Decent beers and not terribly priced (for Central)
D. S.
Spent a very enjoyable evening here, lots of different drafts available, and the way that this place is built creates several different "atmospheres" that you can choose from, if you want a bit more quiet. Food is average but you come here for the suds anyway. Great choice in London.
M. T. C.
Nice place for drinking a good beer.
D. S.
Such character! Deceptively large, and the tree worked in the walls was quite something to behold.
D. D.
I always love coming to this place as it is super quirky with lots of knocks and crannies to get privacy. Guinness is a bit on the expensive side but they sell unbelievably good cheese and onion crisps (taytos). During the winter they have open fires dotted around to keep you warm. There could however be more waiting staff as a couple of the bars had no one there and queues were long at the other ones.
S. S.
Plumb the hidden depths, it is worth the walk. Multiple levels, multiple rooms, a place for everyone. Great atmosphere! Especially in the Church Bar with live music (which is piped through to the other rooms). Food was good, but ordinary.
K. S.
This is one of my favourite pubs in London. Very deceiving when you first walk in as it looks like just a small room with a bar and a tree top at the back. On closer inspection your notice 2 staircases either side which leads down to multiple levels, booths and bars deep in the belly of London. Think it was a place of worship many years ago. Truly a delightful and wonderful place. Foods good, beers good! And there's plenty of entertainment here of a weekend with live music. Easy to find, just off piccadilly sq. London prices of course but definitely worth a visit.
R.
Best pub ever been. It's always crowded and it's not difficult to understand why. Good selection of beer and spirits, decent food (especially sharers) and live music.
The internal architecture is fantastic! There is a carved wooden church behind the main bar and an entire 12 ft tree by the stairs.
The bad: impossible to get a seat after 5 pm; Overcrowded most of the time; main dishes are not great; awful bouncers.
Definitely check it out!
I.
Second time here. We visited london again and went straight to this pub. Love the Rebel Red. Also i had the fish and chips and my partner had the ribs. Both dishes and the fries were really good. I would definitely recommend this place. The inside is absolutely stunning and very special.
R. E.
This is one of the most amazing pubs. The crazy cool rabbit warren layout alone (and the tree!) would be a reason to visit but the service, food and wide drinks selection match expectations.
We've had a number of visits over the past few years and on our last visit we had the full starters platter to share and it was very good. A very healthy collection of Irish Whiskey you won't find in most London pubs too.
B. l.
Great Irish Bar that looks deceiving from outside, inside is huge with several levels and also has cosy nooks. There was live music on and so was busy and thankfully we had booked the whole mezzanine area for our team & the food was excellent and everyone had a great time, though bar service could have been faster.
D. H.
One of the coolest pubs in London...would come back. Feels like they made a church for beers and whiskey.
I. B.
I absolutely adore this place. It is, for almost 2 years now, my favourite pub in London. The service, the food and the drinks are great, and the atmosphere is simply magical. And if you're lucky to get the Irish live music...you'll fall in love 💚
Μ.
Such a nice traditional place! I totally recommend it!
D. “. C.
One of the best places to meet with your friends. The decoration is very nice and the environment too.
The price of the drinks is not cheap but it is understandable keeping in mind their location. Did not give 5 starts because I couldn't find a place to seat down due to the lack of chairs.
C. B.
Busy Irish pub, pint of guiness wasn't a good one tho, very watery...
s. m.
Ambiance is so nice and the tree inside the bar is amazing
B. D.
Loads of space and good beer in central London.
M.
This place is a spot we always come to when in London. My boyfriend loves it here, it's a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, very reasonably priced and ample seating. Free wifi for those people who want to relax and have a drink and upload photos ready for more pictures of the sites.
D. H.
Great place, to enjoy your evening with friends
S. C.
Good food in a unique setting. It's much larger than it looks from the outside. You enter a room, then down stairs and many more rooms. Pick a table and head up to the bar and order. The food was good, the portions large. We were there on a quiet night so I can't speak for what it's like when crowded.
G. C.
Probably one of the coolest pubs in London. Its a basement bar with a huge capacity. They have a great selection of Irish beer and cater to rugby fans. Beware the fish and chips aren't that great and on a match day the place is packed. Get their early if you want a seat
M. D. B.
Wonderful pub! I like the interiors! It seems a woodland! Very beautiful and full of beautiful people!
The staff Is very kind and Happy! They have Always smile on their faces!
I had dinner there and I have eat a vary tasty steak pie and hamburger top!!
Beers are a loro and very good!
YouTube Can wait 30 minites to eat but it's worth It.
There are often live concerts and music and also you can watch football matches on TV!
i. g.
One of my favourite pubs in London, amazing atmosphere and service
R. p.
Beautiful pub very spacious. Sometimes they have live music and it's really lovely. Can be a little loud sometimes which I like but it's really down to preference. Good food aswell.
L. S.
Night time is great with live music and incredible scenery for the centre of London. Not the usual price I would pay for a pint but the price I would pay to be with this kind of crowd. Day time not so good wasn't let in because the woman at the bar couldn't read my ID properly 😕 saying that they wouldn't let 16yo in there when I'm 20..... But there loss. My advice got on a good night with music. Avoid during the day. At least at night the security can read ID correctly. I would go again when next visiting London. This place has charm.
A.
From the outside the bar doesn't seem like much, but get inside and it's huge! With a bit of a labyrinth of different levels, and cosy nooks. Great atmosphere, great drinks, bar staff are quick and everyone is having a good time.
A. G.
This hole in the wall style pub hides a massive labyrinth of underground bars that are really cool to checkout. It's got a very lord of the rings feel to it and is great for social get togethers with friends or large groups. Inside it did seem a bit gimmicky with lots of fake candles and stuff, but I guess it's still safer than real candles and much easier to maintain
D. D.
Unique pub in London, with its own legend. Its huge and built like a maze, so quite a fun place to go out with friends.
Good selection of drinks and food, big portions and not very expensive. I can recommend the pies!
There is usually a wait for a table.
J. P.
First time in here and will hurry back, service was good, drinks are nice and reasonable and the decor is incredible
T. N.
Great huge place in middle of busy London. It gives a nice feeling of being transported somewhere else. The place is like a maze but bars in every corner you see do youre never far from spending your hard earned cash on some refreshing beverages. Enjoy!
S. H.
Waxys has a lot of atmosphere mostly for its beautiful decor and maze like basement bars however it is very expensive even for a London pub and frequently crowded. It's good for a rowdy group but not so great for a quiet catch up
V. P.
Me and my mates were lost, cold, and tired. We stumbled unto this place and wandered inside. We walked to the back of the bar only to find that it kept going. The place is huge!
Beautiful design and plenty of space to hangout.
We sat there and drank for hours. It honestly felt like we were in a forest somewhere just taking the piss.
We got drunk and eventually ran out of money and left; lost, cold, and tired.
I. R.
Had an unfortunate incident this weekend.
We arrived at 20-00 and went on to seat in the area marked as reserved starting at 18-30 assuming people just didn't show up considering we were not warned by the staff, there were lots of other people sitting there and we've been served food in that area.
When the other group finally showed up we were asked to leave (which is fair) but in a very aggressive and unfriendly manner, manager made us feel very unwelcome and we had to plea to allow us to finish the meal.
While technically it is our fault, this could (and should) have been dealt with more professionally in "the best Irish pub in London".
Otherwise great pub.
B. B.
Simply the best pub, not only in London, but in Europe
P. S.
My favorite pub in London, it's so far the best I've visited!
It's huge, they sell a lot of different drinks: beers, ciders, cocktails and without alcohol!
I've eaten there as well, the food is nice.
What I really L O V E about the pub is the tree in the middle of it, the light, the hundreds of mirrors... absolutely adore it!
It's often a bit crowded, but I've always found a table and a few chairs so I don't mind :)
P. P.
The most beautiful pub I have ever seen
H. C.
Amazingly quirky and really friendly staff, an great place for a drink with a difference
a. c.
My favourite pub in London! The architecture is lovely and original, perfect if you're a Lord of the Rings lover. Big range of beer choice, good food, just a bit crowded on Saturdays but it's absolutely worthy going there.
W. V.
Fantastic pub, feels like heading into a hobbit hole as you discover the place
J. S.
Loved it, was there from 9pm till 11pm on a Sunday. Irish music and a lot of people having fun. VERY interesting decor, reasonable prices. In my opinion kind of a must see if you like beer and pubs.
G. C.
This pub has a great atmosphere and live music on Friday night. I took a group of friends who have recently arrived to London and they loved the fact that the bar looked like a tree house! The service was great and it was busy but not uncomfortable. Highly recommend for a good laugh!
A. S.
Really beautiful interior, and great gin&tonics!! But it is very popular, so be prepared - it will be busy and you probably won't find a free tabel if you don't have reservation. ))
M. Z. v. B.
Amazing pub! I love the wooden finishings and the decor, it's like you stepped into another world. It has multiple levels with individual bars, also live music some days. It is very popular so expect it to be crowded!
N. P.
Bizarre and lively. Can take ages to get a drink because the bars are understaffed. Live music is always a hit, with the band playing classics over a couple of hours.
Very cool design inside, that melds fantasy and cathedral.
There is nearly no phone reception inside, but they offer free WiFi
m. B.
Stopped in here on a Sunday night on a recommendation from our waitress at dinner. We ordered a couple of beers and went looking for the Irish music we heard eminating from below. After searching four other rooms we found the band in a balcony above a very lively crowd at the back bar. The music was great, I guess they only have Irish music on Sundays, but we're told they have other live music on Wednesday through Friday. We will be back again before we leave the city!
J. H.
We've been here before and when we're in London, always try to make it back. This is such a cool bar. It's in Piccadilly Circus so it's a very touristy area but totally worth it. There are a bunch of little nooks to find a seat and enjoy the atmosphere.
G. G.
Very good place to drink lot of beers and different whisky 🙂
F. B.
This place is a gem. It's well hidden and often deceiving to the eye. It might seam like a small place on the outside however it keeps getting bigger with almost no end. The decor is pretty unique with a cave like effect that nice. Prices are on a par with other pubs in the area. I'd recommend it
N. B.
This is sa very interesting and cool bar. When you walk it it seems like a normal pub but once inside you enter a world more like a goblin warren than anything else. Being all underground is a very interesting and fun experience and the niches and tables are all very comfy and the decor very interesting. Can get very busy!
R. D.
Great place for a beer and fun. Usually crowded and full of people.
A. J.
Big on the inside. Lots of separate areas. Good for drinking with friends. Food served could be better keeping in mind that this is pub food... So no high expectations. The music seems to be too loud, left with ringing noise in the ear. Toilets are kept decent considering the traffic. Overall not good, not bad, in the middle.
G. R.
Super cool place to go for a drink! Amazing scenery and a massive selection of whiskey ❤️ I went in the day time mid week and it was very quiet, will be back on a Friday evening to see some live music 🍻
J. P.
Went for a friends leaving drinks and gaff a great tone in the private area. Bar itself has an interesting decor including pulpits and an indoor tree. Can take some time to navigate when packed for the full Irish pub experience.
Π. Κ.
The venue is awesome, various rooms on 4 different levels to enjoy beer, whiskey, wine and/or food! The menu is more than decent in every way! There's also live music 4 days/week.
M.
Mad looking but service was average, guy serving us kept forks and knives in back pocket, nice!
Plus they took at least 40 minutes to get our food out and the place was quite, and after all that they still messed up our order, four people?
Go, food is good for city central, but be very clear about what you want.
M. S.
The pub itself is very nice and peculiar, with a lot of space and tables and different rooms. Because of the size of the pub, it's difficult to keep it clean, so finding a clean table is a mission. Music is the average selection of new and classic popular songs.
A.
Good place during the day when it's quiet. Not a stereotypically rowdy rough boy place. Seats are uncomfortable though, probably on purpose in a bid to get get you to leave sooner for a higher customer turnover. Food is good as well.
M. P.
Ridiculously huge and with a great atmosphere. Went multiple times but you never get bored of it, easy to find a new spot. Live music was also really nice every time.
S. J. H.
We found this place by chance. It's right outside the Prince of Wales theatre. Most unusual interior. Trees, wall art, atmospheric lighting. A mezzanine floor that overlooks the main bar. We ordered sharing food. The rosemary roast potatoes are scrummy. Spare ribs that actually had plenty of meat on them and chicken pieces that were very tasty. Good food and my husband wasn't complaining about the beer. It's very busy get your seat first.
J. A.
Cosy, and not actually ridiculously expensive either 😁
T. C.
Must visit Irish Pub hidden in China town. This place is huge. Dont be fooled by it small exterior. Covers several floors underground, lots to see and cool areas to settle in and enjoy a pint. Friendly bar staff, but definitely used to catering to crowds of tourist.
D. B.
Very busy but a great atmosphere
F. S.
Fantastic Irish pub! Completely wooden made and with a big tree in the center. It's really like to be in a fantasy novel..only dwarves miss! Food is good as well (fish and chips is fine) and lots of beers choice. If you are in London, you cannot miss it!
K. J.
A brilliant Irish pub with an eclectic interior that takes you to a place far from touristy west end streets. Come at 8:30pm on Fridays and weekends to experience live Irish music, dance and sing out loud!
C. M.
Love this pub if I want to meet for a quiet drink. I can only liken the inside as like being on the set for a Harry Potter movie! Loads of lovely little hidey holes, open fires, and the magnificent carved tree snaking its way up the middle of the venue. The food is standard pub grub, the beer is what you'd expect from an Irish pub. Definitely worth a look in if you fancy a break from the madness of London- it can get very busy after 5pm, or on a day when there are major sporting events on.
S. W.
Great Pub.
Cavernous with a tree in the middle loads of private places to have a beer with friends. Looking forward to when it reopens.
T. A.
Beautiful downtown bar, feels like Hobbiton. Staff is great, beers are well varied, music is good if a bit loud, so might be a good idea to have silence between musicians so wendon't have to shout all the time.
P. S.
The Irish coffee is amazing and the location is absolutely beautiful! It looks like something out of Lord of the Rings with a tree growing right through the middle of it. It's also quite quiet in the early afternoon. A great place to meet up with friends!
J. C.
Really cool looking pub. Service was way too slow though, they also lost our table booking and forgot to bring out one of our meals. Watch out for the extra .50p charge for using any kind of card if you spend less than £10 in one transaction. Good vibes in the venue though
P. C.
Amazing pub that is deep under the busy bustling streets of London. Friendly staff that are welcoming and more than happy to help you in an astounding establishment that looks and feels like it was tunneled out by dwarves lifetimes ago with intrecate and detailed carpentry flowing throughout and having a beautiful centrepiece of a tree rising up in the middle and a network of rooms sprouting from it.
A definite must to go and hang out with friends or to celebrate an occasion with a vast extensive list of drinks, concoctions and beverages as well as an amazing menu to feed the masses. There is no doubt you will find something to enjoy
B. S.
Hidden gem, so much bigger inside and a lovely atmosphere and decoration. Definitely my new central London bar to introduce tourists to!
L. p.
Very unusual fun place for a drink
G. A.
Super fun Irish pub! Problemos: sometimes the music is usually too loud to have a proper conversation with a big table of people, even just afternoon/early evening. Food is so so, but the selection of beers is great and deals are Gucci
A. N.
Love this bar. It's both touristy and a bit of a secret hidden near London China Town. It's a subterranean den part cathedral part dungeon part Celtic temple. Explore every nook and cranny whilst you're there. A fun pub which also hosts live events. Worth getting there early on busy Friday or Saturday nights.
E. B.
Great atmosphere and awesome decor. The food was good. Lots of bars so you don’t wait too long for drinks even though it gets very busy. Will definitely go back and enjoy a little bit of Ireland.
J. E.
Great pub and wonderful decor. Worth a pint just to walk around the 6 levels and 4 bars. Lots to see. Lose one star for the music that was too loud.
M. M.
Subterranean Irish pub in Leicester Square. Reasonable prices though not cheap. Food served, standard pub food. Budget £20-£30 for meals Three big bars cater for all drinkers tastes in this huge maze like pub. Social people. Live music later in the week. Someone seems to have planted a huge tree in the middle.
T.
Great Irish pub! If you have to go to a pub in London this is it. Bar staff are great, nice variety of beers, ales, whiskey etc. Be aware with the layout of the bar you may get stuck in here which is not a bad thing!
C. D.
Waxys is a great pub with a really nice vibe, the staff is always really friendly and drinks prices are in line with central London pubs. Its definitelly one of those places you can take friends from out of town to for a more relaxed night out.
A. L.
Very cool hipster joint. Over several levels mostly below ground. Lots of decretive wood carving and nook and crannies to sit in and hide in. Some of it reminds me of Lord of the Rings film set! Warm atmosphere, good beer selection but at the expensive end even by London standards. Friendly staff. WiFi but is some spots in the bar little to no cellphone reception due to being below ground.
U. Z.
Need to see and have a drink there. After just take the stairs to China Town...
W. W.
We went there on a Friday night, 2 guys were playing live on guitars and it was a very nice atmosphere. Although it was crowded we found a ice spot. The bouncers on the end of the opening hours were very strict. On the exit we got a stamp for a free entry in a club nearby 😉
N. S.
This place is huge. We went during a women’s World Cup game. The service wasn’t attentive. The food I ordered was warm not hot. I got the mushroom burger. It definitely gave me food poisoning!! Have been sick for two days...
S. C.
A wonderfully quirky and intriguing pub with a stunning wood themed interior. A fantastic selection of drinks served by efficient staff with enough nooks and crannies to find a quiet spot to enjoy good conversation over a great pint.
M. C.
One of my favourite places in London. Always busy. A labyrinth of rooms and seating with good music, beer and great atmosphere. Visited Waxys little sister across the road as well. Nice sofa room upstairs.
R.
Irish pub? Hahaha! Nice place to have a little explore around, though. Gets very busy and prices are (unfortunately) tourist/West End prices. (December 2019 - A lager and a single Glenmorangie was £12.)
F. O.
Great Irish bar.
Drinks were well priced, loads of places to sit, and plenty of TVs to watch Ireland winning the rugby, followed by a bit of GAA.
M. C. T. N.
We ordered a plate for share, that was tasty and came in time! Good music and service!
P. R. S.
One of my favourite places to wind up after a long day! The ambience is just amazing. The choice of ale is worth every penny! Food options are limited to the typical english pub food. But one of my top choices to go for a few drinks with friends! The choice of bars and different level seatings is really groovy!
T. Y.
Nice spacious bar. Live music was good. Enjoyed
D. G. M.
Apart from being one of my favourite pubs, in London, this has to be one of the most unique, as well. It is set across multiple levels, below ground, with a myriad of places to sit. Some large areas for groups, while there are also smaller areas for those who wish a more private visit. There is a very wide selection of spirits and a decent selection of draughts available, too. The food is of a slightly higher standard, than you might expect in a standard pub, and is always good. The service is top notch, too.
A. H.
Fascinating layout and decor; excellent lively atmosphere. No real ale, but it is an Irish pub so that's no surprise. Fun place to meet people.
Only downside is that the crowds can make it a little slow to get served.
P. C. T.
This is the best English pub I've ever been. Is huge inside with a really good atmosphere. The decoration is cool and has a lot of places and corners where you can have a nice private chat. This is the kind of place I'd go in to just show it to people. Very nice place.

First time exploring inside and never realised how huge it is! Was really busy on a Friday night so most seats and tables were taken but we managed to find somewhere to perch ourselves for a quick drink. Fun, lively vibe, and I do like the quirky decor, will visit again soon :)

This pub is awesome! They have live music on weekend , and they have a huge selection of beers. This is an Irish bar which is a bit pricey, and gets very busy but worth it for a few drinks. There are all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore from church pews to the huge tree inside to the lookouts from the multiple levels which is great to explore. There are 2 entrances the main one where you see the impressive tree, and at the back is a small door leading you into China Town where you will find Wax’s little sister. A must visit if your a visitor!

Great Bar in Central London (Picadily Circus) to watch games and enjoy some pints.

What a neat, unique pub. Never have seen a pub with a really large tree in the middle of it, inside the building! If you are looking to take a visitor someplace surprising, this is the place. The multiple levels and decor will keep you people-watching for hours. Telling you more about this pub is almost a disservice, as it will ruin the surprise for you. Really a must see when you're in the city.
B. W.
This pub doesn't look like much from the outside. Once you enter it is like a never drinking maze and you could quite easily get lost inside, the whole pub is below ground level. Typical pub food served - really good fish and chips (really generous portion) Great selection of local as well as foreign beers.
J. T.
One of the most interesting set ups I've ever seen in a pub. There are multiple floors with multiple wings and multiple rooms. My friends and I were there for 2-3 hours and I'm not positive that we even visited every area.
J. B.
Love this pub, went for work Christmas lunch, was very reasonable lunch great value for what you got included, staff bit 'missing' at first to seat us and bring drinks but made up for it later. Really cool decor and loads of floors and places to sit
E. L.
The best Irish pub to go to in London.
S. B.
Unique experience of a huge tree in the middle of the bar and its deceptively huge inside. Only downside is the mammoth trek into the belly of the venue makes it inconvenient for smokers. As the bulk of the bar is "below ground" there is also no natural light which may not be ideal for some.
i. t.
The location is great! I still have to understand how many floors are there! And there's a (fake) tree in the middle of the venue, and a confessional cabinet, and the whole atmosphere is gothic...Even the restrooms match the style! Food is nice and reasonable in price, but some dishes are obviously cooked from frozen. Downside: very boring selection of beers. The venue calls for a playful choice of drinks which is missing, while the food menu has at least gothic names! Something cool in addition: they often play live music.

Awesome pub, enormous from the inside but because of unique spacing and layering feels very warm and cozy. It was a bit of self-service for us, pricing was good and overall a good experience.
L. C.
Loved this ‘little’ maze of a bar! Walked in and I really didn’t expect it to be so big, multiple different levels underground with bars on all levels. Drinks were all really well priced and I will degrade be visiting next time I’m in London
L. M.
Its a great pub with plently of seating. Drinks are fairly priced and everyone likes a random tree in the middle of a pub right?
A. S.
Unique design, great ambiance and one of the biggest pubs i've ever seen, the tiny door is deceptive. Lots of live music at the weekends. Be aware you might have to hunt through lots of little nooks and crannies over the 3 floors to sit down, and gets very busy at weekends. The music gets very load so not the place for a quiet chat
C. P.
It feels like stepping into a historical magical place. It's more than just a pub, it's an experience. Absolutely loved it.
C. T.
I had a burger here, and the food was quite dry and bland. Also there didn't seem to be enough people working behind the bar - 1 guy on his own with a load of people waiting to be served. Decent setting and atmosphere though, which bumps up my rating to a 3/5
P. K.
So nice pub. Live music.
H. A.
Really fun place for an evening out
S. K.
There are 4diverse levels off set from each other, each with its own bar and space for a healthy multitude. There's plenty of stout to go 'round, too. There are also trees decorating the interior, making an almost nice mood that caught me off guard. The friendliness of the place is fashioned by small rooms and different levels, so it is possible to enjoy a quieter drink away from the main bar zones.
M. V. C.
Nice beers, beautiful pub, the price is normal for that area ~4£, I've seen that they have live music sometimes (but I've never been there those days). There are plenty of space to sit, but on Saturday use to be full
A. M.
The location is probably the cheesiest in the universe and very touristy. If you can live with that, this is a great place. The interior is composed in many levels, little corners, staircases, open spaces, etc. It is like a maze. It is worth entering even if you don't plan to sit down! The night I went it also had live music. Definitely worth going there, for the architecture and the atmosphere. I haven't actually tried the food, only went for beers there. Minimum payment with card, 10 pounds, which is a bit annoying.
D. S.
I’m always amazed bu the layout of this place. It keeps going and going on different levels, each with its own bar. Great atmosphere, especially in the days with live music.
L. C. J.
The pub is located near Soho in a street with many bars, it sits under an old church. With 3 bars and a large area you probably gonna feel in a tavern from Harry Potter. Prices as reasonables, definetly worth the experience.
H. B.
Good luck finding your friends in this wonderful pub! Loads of twists and turns, bolt holes and bars as you wind your way through the rustic wooden decor. A good place to go for a few drinks.
N. N.
An incredibly cozy and atmospheric place that we visited twice during our four day visit. Great live performances and delicious food and fantastic service. It sort of ruined other pubs for us.
A. S.
A very unique pub located in the middle of the city. It has 5 layers of seating and besides serving a wide range of stouts, they also host some wonderful performances by live Irish bands 3 times a week.
D. H.
Huge, sprawling and impressive, Waxy's small entrance really belies the labyrinthine booze den within. There are a lot of levels and fun corners to tuck yourself away, but it's a popular venue so it can still be a struggle to find a seat. Aside from that they have a good drinks selection which is pretty par-for-the-course at a London price point. The music selection is always good though, rotating between classic anthems and indie hits. Waxy's is always a good shout.
P. B.
Went on a Friday night and it was heaving, but in a good way! It's like a wooden church labyrinth - pretty hard to find the toilet when you're drunk! Drink selection was pretty good too with some decent ales and craft beers. Would definitely go back.
s. t.
Great atmosphere and a lot of fun. As soon as you walk in, you can tell this bar has a lot of history, it's old but very well maintained, and it's absolutely massive inside. I suggest getting here as early as possible because this place gets seriously PACKED!
G. B.
We usually love this place but there was a gig on Thursday just far too loud and we could not say a word to each other. However out table wasn't close to the band. It was also hard to get close to the counter as the band played right next to.
P. A.
It's so pretty! It's a nice pub with a nice enough staff. The beer is also good. A great plave to go see sports matches with friends.
P. F.
This place will seriously impact your wallet if you have a few drinks here, but in my opinion it's more than worth it for the atmosphere, great service, and incredible interior design.
You'll wonder if you've had too much already as you navigate the various levels, rooms, and bars - there is a giant tree running through the centre, and several areas that look like they've been pulled straight from a country chapel. Huge oak tables, wooden pews, cosy nooks and wide bar spaces - this has a little of everything, all with that warm welcome you' expect from a thoroughly Irish bar.
The food doesn't disappoint either, doesn't take a long time to arrive, and seems well coked and flavoured for what is essentially posh pub grub. Try one of their sharing platters - a nice selection of (probably vastly unhealthy) treats.
Unless you're after a very raucous night out, I would avoid going on an Ireland match day; but if you fancy a loud, lively night - get stuck into the crowd and cheer for Ireland!
G.
Had a fantastic night at Waxy's watching the 6 Nations Super Saturday. Amazingly crazy decor including a tree in the middle of the place. I was one of just a couple of Welshman there but the way the Irish supporters treated us was FANTASTIC, and I wanted to show my appreciation, here, for that.
H. C.
Lovely pub. It is super cozy - love the different "venues" and you can really relax here and have some good beer. Or a coke. Or anything. There's also tasty food so yeah... Recommended!
C. G.
Surprising London pub which has a lot more than meets the eye. The selection of drink isn't too bad and it's normally not too busy, although the prices are high. That's the central London norm though, otherwise a good location for a quick pint. They do food, but not a big selection.
C. C.
Amazing pub in centrale London. Close to piccadilly ,Leicester Square and china Town. The atomsphere Is Amazing. Real Trees inside the bar! Variety of beer. Wood everywhere. Highly recommended!
C. C.
Great decor, friendly staff and nice environment. Can get very busy so get there early. Music was epic. Despite the business we got served at the bar really quickly
E. H.
amazing pub like something from a harry potter novel. standard size at the front but be sure to explore the downstairs located at the rear. it expands into several separate rooms on different levels. excellent cask ales especially the IPA.
I. M.
Great pub. Really big inside with different levels and bars. Good combination between big and cozy. Reasonable prices and a few toilets.
Some days with live music. Really recommend
S. S.
The perfect place if you are wanting to party with mostly tourists to some live music. In that mindset, a great pub and I've had some brilliant nights here (for the same but with pop & club music see Zoo Bar a few streets away). Quite a maze inside, which just adds to the wild atmosphere!
If you want a more discerning live music experience, maybe try further afield. After all, Leicester Square is where those who don't know where the best clubs are come to party.
A. C.
One of my favourite pubs in London. An amazing pub for watching sport in - but likely to be really busy. It's a bit rough round the edges, but it's quirky interior is literally a-maze-ing!!
A. C.
One of the most astonishing pubs in London! Everytime someone comes visiting me, this is the very first pub I'd go. Sadly I've recently discovered they don't do scotch eggs anymore..and that's really a pity as they were really good!
K. D.
Really neat Irish pub in the heart of London near Piccadilly Square. Every time I thought I found the end, lo and behold, there was another room! Nice place to stop and get a pint of Guinness.
s. w.
I only been twice but I love it so many floors such good atmosphere bar on several floors. Seating is sometimes hard to find but if you look there are seats hidden in places. Prices are probably London prices so not cheap. Defo be going again 😁
J. P.
This multi level authentic pub is super fun. Unfortunately they stop serving at midnight. Dont take it out on the staff, it's a licensing thing. Just go there and explore the many levels. Too much fun!
J. O.
Great atmosphere for a big match. Always draws a good crowd. Lots of nooks and crannies to sit in. Negatives: pricey drinks and zero phone reception.
J. E.
A hidden escape amongst the hustle and bustle of central London. With a whimsical ornate tree in the center of one room, Waxy O'Connor's has a fantasy feel about. It is much larger inside than the front door leads you to believe. Highly recommend.
G. h.
Practically on top of Leicester Sq. large and quirkily laid out Irish bar.
Huge range of beers, I was disappointed in their Guinness. If you get a good one it's the best drink in the world. It's harder to keep and handle than some. Was very bitter.
We were surprised to get a seat. It's super busy....
M. P.
I absolutely love this pub. The décor is outstanding. There is wide variety of drinks and the prices are reasonable. It's good place for a date as well as drinks with friends!
A. S. I.
I think they've managed to fit as many "Irish" tropes as possible in a one pub, and to be honest it's really fun. Often really busy to might not be best for a large group on weekends, but if you do you might struggle to order a drink or a table.
S. R.
A very nice pub just off of Leicester Square (meaning it gets busy a little later than some of the other pubs nearby). Serves good beer and is a TARDIS of a place (it extends over multiple floors and back from the street which you can't see from the entrance)
A. M.
If you're in Chinatown you have to go here. One of the coolest bars I have ever been to. It's Irish themed and there's a bar on every level. There's also a giant tree in the middle of the bar and the selection of whiskey and gin is broad enough to please anyone.
F. O.
Pub with good meat pies and burgers etc. Wide selection of beers. Good Guinness pint. Lots of cavernous nucks and crannies. Very middle ages feel. Live music (rock when I was there)
h. s.
Great live music and fun and friendly place.
T. S.
Tourist Trap? Sure is - but just a great place!
N. W.
This place is done up so beautifully, and any seat you pick you'd have a lot to look at, and there were lots of places to sit to chose from. Really loved the place and the food was perfect too ☺️
S. H.
What an incredible place, I have never seen anything quite like it. Lots of cosy little corners if you want to just chill out with a drink. Great atmosphere, good beer what more could you want.
M. F.
This is my favourite pub in central London.. Every friend who's coming from another country I take to there and all of them loved the choice ! The price is not the lowest but ok considering you are really central ! Watch the rugby or football matches there is super cool and people there are friendly !! 🙌🏼👏🏻🙋🏼
P. H.
Great place, could have done with a few more people behind the bar but the staff were very quick to get to you. Live band were good. Xmas buffet took awhile to be served but was nice when it appeared
D. W.
Irish pub built by imported Irish artiscians, Irish artifacts. Multi level, multiple bars. world class whiskey's. In an interesting building with so much character. It's worth the time for a pint or a drink of choice.
N. M.
Great atmosphere but the music was way too loud.
t.
Fantastic irish pub, probably the best in London! The interior is chaotic with many places to sit/stand and enjoy your drink. Fully decorated with traditional irish decorations, live irish music... It's definitely worth the visit!
W. D.
Waxys has lots of levels to negotiate in this Irish style pub. It's situated in a prime position in the Soho area of London. There's lots of wood carved into the surroundings; it must feel similar to being inside a tree. Though this made it quite a dark pub. There is plenty of seating and lots of private, cosy corners. The pricing is reasonable for London. They also serve food here. Worth a visit.
M. L.
Great pub for drinks and live music. The food is average, so I dont recommend it for dinner, better places around for burguers or other options , but definitely go there for live music and have a great time.
M. M.
A Cathedral in a Hobbit hole (not my quote). The place is huge and often has live music. It tends to be heavily over-crowded, but there's some quieter spots. Because of uniqueness and location, it feels touristic: definitelly worth an occasional visit, but not someplace you'd go to regularly
G. G.
Fun place in the heart of London. Love going here every now and then. Good selection of drinks. Huge place so you should be able to find a spot somewhere even if it's busy.
Z. G.
Nice bar, poor restaurant. This place is great for a drink, less so if looking for a meal. It is also much larger inside than you would assume from exterior.
P. R.
This is a must visit pub, the various bars just keep getting deeper under the city. Its lively but not too noisy with lots of cosy nooks and crannies. there does seem to be a dead tree in the middle of the building all adding to the atomosphere. beer prices are typical city centre.
S. D.
Nice pub in central London, there is a tree inside which will be the main attraction! Music is quite commercial and fun to dance, it's a pity they close early at 12 though! About the toilets, I don't know if I was just unlucky or if that is the general conditions in which they are found but they should definitely be demolished and built again, they're disgusting!
R. T.
A labyrinth of bars and pockets of seating areas, Waxy's has a great atmosphere full of Irish charm. The decor is part church part Hobbiton which only adds to the whole experience. Great for visitors and locals alike
A. K.
Been here a few times but disappointed to see the toilets were very unclean and full of people keying up on a Saturday night. Also lack of staff behind the bar meant long wait to get a drink. Will give it a few years.
j. p.
There is something special about this pub. the ambient is great, they often have a live music and it is deffinitley one of my favourite pubs in London. A must go
D. O.
Really cool pub! It's huge, with loads of different mini bars. Very irish atmosphere. Lovely place to stop off for a Guinness.
M. G.
Amazing place! You would never expect to find a pub like that in central London. From the outside looks ordinary but once you come inside feels as if you entered a different world! Very cosy place!
M. B.
When ever I go in here it makes me think of a pirates drinking hole. In a good way. It's cool what they have done with the place. Service is always quick. Expensive but hey your in London Leicester Square area that's what you expect. Good for groups.
g. d.
This irish pub is a great place to meet new people. Or just to go out for a drink with your mates. Weekends are extremely busy so you might have to wait a while before you get your beer. The selection is quite ample ranging fron stouts to lagers to ales.
The pub itself is magnificent. Every room is decorated in a particular way (impossible not to notice the tree in the middle of one of them) giving each one of them a particular feel.
All in all it's a place that has to be visited wether you are a tourist or a local. Cheers!
J. R.
Love this pub! It’s like a maze with lots of alcoves and levels which is nice as you aren’t on top of each other. Great Guinness too 👌🏻
c.
While in England hit many pubs for grub and grog, this was clearly the best all around. A food self serve setup took a minute to figure out, but great ambiance and really superior food.
G. C.
Crowded, but fantastically interesting bar. Being set in an old Church leads to many different rooms, levels, staircases... and even when you've got it figured out, there are more rooms to find. It can get VERY crowded, to try to go during a slow period.
G. M.
If you’re looking for great live music, nice food and drinks, you’re in the right place at the Waxy O’Connor’s. Love it!
C. O.
Really enjoyed my few pints ,bar staff were warm and friendly
M. W.
Always a good idea, great decor, needs to be seen. Only down side are weekend visits.. Too busy and door staff are... Not always that welcoming to three or more guys visiting, but week days are fine.
