Reviews of Wood House, Dulwich
G. S.
Looking for somewhere nice to eat in South London recently I found very good reviews for this establishment.
We arrived without booking (as unsure about traffic etc being bank holiday Monday) but were seated in one of the best inner city pub garden's I have seen.
They have multiple cabin style party seating, a huge canopy and heat lamps which I believe are relatively new.
I remarked to my wife, it would be great to have somewhere as nice as this local to us.
Thanks to Andre who took our order for food & drinks and was very helpful speaking to the kitchen about special requests.
Our food and drinks were very nice and enjoyed by all, but I must say I was surprised at the price of a glass of Chardonnay at £10 when the bill came! Must check the drinks menu in future.
The pub interior design also needs a mention which looks comfortable and inviting, as do the outside toilet's which are quite adequate but remind me of camping trips from years past.

Very nice place, interestingly designed, everyone will find something for themselves, a charming place and something tasty to eat. Food served very quickly, generously portioned and very tasty. Friendly and helpful service.what is important for me , Wood House is dog friendly. If I can advise you, might think about some dog food!!

Brilliant pub. Amazing service, all the staff were really friendly. The food is amazing, would highly recommend the burger (as if good burgers need recommending), and the vibe is great. Really chilled, very relaxed.
The Wood House is enormous, there's loads of space with great, comfy seats and TVs for any sports that are on.
Would definitely recommend any popping in to this pub, or popping back if they've already been!
A. C.
Nice pub with a cosy interior close to a lovely woodland walk. Small south-facing garden/courtyard. Solid choice of pit stop. Didn't sample the food, so 4 stars.

We booked one of the outdoor huts. They have heat lamps and we were offered blankets. Our server was so attentive and friendly. The outdoor space is huge for a London pub and the inside has a lovely feel to it. I had a burger which was good and the rest if our party enjoyed their food. I will happily come here again.

Awesome indoor and outdoor space! Pepper sauce with the ribeye was to die for 🔥 great space to catch up with the girls! Hospitality was the star; David and Charles made some awesome allowances for us and very much lookaftered us, making our evening one of smiles and good memories! Cheers Fellas 🥂👍🏽🔥

Visited The Wood House on Thursday. Was very impressed, the garden is huge well laid out and very spacious. Whilst the food menu is not massive there is something for everyone. The outside tables all have individual heaters which was great . We moved inside and the interior was lovely. Clean , welcoming and again spacious.
I will certainly revisit.

Booked a table for sunday lunch here with my family and our two dogs. Perfect location for a walk in the woods. Staff were very friendly and service was good. They were very busy but made us feel comfortable and food was served quickly. Delicious meals kept everyone happy.

The best place, wonderful staff, amazing food and the tastiest cocktails. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon! We will be back soon
L. F.
Lovely staff, nice pub food, reasonably priced. We arrived without booking on a crazily busy Sunday lunchtime, but they found us a nice table. Our lunch took a while to arrive, but they kept us informed and apologised for the wait, which was all that's needed. Please do roast lamb!

This is a really cool pub. The effort of the place in its design both outside and in is unique and well thought out to make for a great ambiance. The outside space is particularly cool (bit of a mountain vibe) with look wooden booths on its perimeter and seating surrounded by cool lighting and canopy (marquee). Inside its a cosy feel with great use of lighting.
We booked a table slot for 2hr30 mins so allowed for a decent time to eat and drink. Ordering/payment is done via app which works really well and we had food/drinks delivered very quickly/efficiently. It’s also great not having to worry about waiting for the bill!
Food was tasty and well presented - Decent pub food. And also has a good selection of drinks to choose from! (A decent wine list that is well categorised).
Overall well worth a visit!

Beautiful dog friendly pub with good food and friendly staff. Bonus is the car park and nearby EV charging, plus the apple crumble which is pretty tasty.
M. R.
I came here for a Sunday Roast and was very pleased, great looking pub with a lovely oudoor space. It was raining but it was covered and warm with heaters around. I had the vegan option which was Spiced lentil, spinach & mushroom wellington, was really tasty but the roast potatoes let it down ( i like mine crispy)
Would 100% come back again friendly staff and quick service

Clean and sparkly with nice people behind the bar. Great selection of drinks. Nice interior styling and the seating out front catches the afternoon sun perfectly. Didn't eat, but the menu looked good and was reasonably priced. Will return and eat here sometime soon.
Two years on and we've visited again and ate here on two occasions. Both times the food was good, well presented and tasty. The people here are pleasant and friendly and the beers are well kept. The only downside we experienced was the app for ordering, it's clunky, asks for way too much information and doesn't accept PayPal. Until they improve the app the best advice is to grab a human or go inside to the bar to place your order - it'll be quicker and far less frustrating. Will come back again.

Lovely large airy pub with traditional pub food selections including pie & mash
Fish & chips crumble & custard etc. Nice attentive staff.
Lots of comfy seating areas and a separate restaurant section.
Beautiful outside garden.
P. C.
Very nice.
Well presented and maintained. Lovely outside area with seating mini chalets. Blankets and hot water bottles (!) available if you get chili (and a TV with an open fire on it, not so warming).
Don't come to London much so shocked at the office of drinks but our hosts assured us it was normal!
Attentive staff as well as friendly.
Recommend.

Location: nice and cosy with a lot of options and outside varieties
Food: nice tender steak, decent fish and chips and hot brownies to die for
Staff: funny and helpful, sometimes confused but a joy to talk with
D. L.
Great pub, great location and nice ambience. Very good food and drinks menus. Shared a nice bottle of red with my wife and dogs welcome too. Word of caution... If you are going for a Sunday roast it can be organised chaos! Extremely busy, which is a good thing and good quality food, however service not great, under staffed and clearly over stretched. I will visit again but probably not on a Sunday.
S. B.
Warm, inviting pub with a humungous beer garden which I am looking forward to testing out in Summer. The food here is great and the pub were able to cater to my dietary requirements (VG & GF). Staff also really friendly. Perfect boozer to come to after a Sunday stroll through Sydenham Hill Woods.
D.
Large outside space under canvas cover with heaters to keep everything comfortable. Good range of food with a couple of different menus from separate kitchens, good selection of vegan and vegetarian options, ordered from both menus and our food came at almost the same time, though this might not always be the case. Great selection of wines and friendly service. Can order through their app but didn't try that. One of our sides was missed off, but that was corrected quite quickly and everything went relatively smoothly thought a busy lunchtime. Great for little ones and visitors with dogs, they even sell dog ice-cream!
H. G.
Went back for a meal with friends and nothing has changed
Food and service was great.
The stake was cooked perfect but the pie was better and the staff kept checking on us to ensure we did not need anything else. Would recommend the sticky toffee pudding all day
A. C.
Totally awesome… so nice to have a super clean glass full of perfect Youngs beer. And the Fish & Chips perfect Wednesday Lunch.

We usually love to Wood House as it's so well set up outside and the food is yum. However we were in a big group this time which we warned them about when we booked (12 adults + 6 buggies) and they put us in an alcove with small round tables and huge arm chairs without putting them in any kind of order before we arrived. We spent most of our time dragging furniture around. The staff also seemed a bit bewildered by our number and were rather keen to see the back of us I think.

We enjoyed Christmas lunch 2021 at the DW and we had a great experience - from start to finish. The whole team was extremely welcoming and genuinely seemed to be happy to be serving everyone - despite working on Xmas day! .There was no rush to be seated and we enjoyed a glass of fizz next to the fire in the bar before being shown to our table. The room was decorated beautifully. We enjoyed the food immensely, right through to the mince pies at the end. I was the vegetarian of the Group and enjoyed a Risotto for my main course, which was delicious. Although I have to admit I would have preferred a veggie option with all the Christmas trimmings - the Yorkshire pudding and Roasties looked amazing and they gave me food envy for the rest of the day! My partner is not a huge fan of Turkey but he really enjoyed it.
What was particularly good about the whole experience was that at no point were we made to feel rushed. The management did not seem to be operating on a 'sittings' basis - which tends to be hit and miss experience if planned poorly. Instead, the whole meal was enjoyed at a leisurely pace - we arrived at 1pm and left just after 4pm. Thanks to everyone at the DW who worked on Christmas Day - you gave us a lovely Christmas Day experience and we will recommend the DW to anyone who asks.

Second time I've been to the Woodhouse in the last 3 months or so. Nice pub with beer garden but food is poor - everything I've had, and friends have had, feels like it's just been reheated and chucked together.
K. W.
Spacious but cosy-feeling. The garden area is lovely for a meal with the kids. My fish and chips were perfect today and the children's was just a bit smaller but the same high quality. Those chips were really triple cooked.
Service can vary wildly from person to person. It's generally of a very high standard, but the first person I interacted with advised me to go and get menus from inside, even though I could hear other staff approaching customers and offering table service. Like I say, it's generally of a very high standard but there are a few who aren't quite as good.
No doubt, stunk be back again next summer, although the interior is easily impressive enough for some winter drinking and dining.
p. R.
Food was decent and beautiful interior. The menu was on the limited side pretty much fish, burgers, pie or steak no lamb / pork options really.
My main issues was the staff seemed at best bored at worst uninterested bordering on rude. Had to be called over at each step of service while they were half empty on a Saturday evening. Sadly won't be back dropped far off its previous high standards.
V. B.
Wonderful location. Great interiors and atmosphere at the pub, with possibly one of the tastiest sausage rolls I've had in a long time. The cocktails were really nice too. The G&T spritzers were a delight. Will definitely be back.
M. O.
A brilliant pub on Sydenham Hill. I received a warm smiley, friendly reception from Kasia and Kamil and nothing was too much to ask.
I didn't have a chance to eat, but the food looked great, I will definitely return!
A. R.
Massive beer garden full of seating. Clientele consisted of a 70/30 blend of of parents with sub 3 year old children, and post menupausal women with reluctant dogs. So not good place to find your next main squeeze.
J. D.
I often come here in between appointments. The team is so friendly and accommodating, in fact fabulous customer service skills. The food is amazing and the menu changes daily. The outside space is outstanding, it’s so pretty. I would highly recommend to visit this superb pub, restaurant.
Z. D.
Love this pub after a dog walk - friendly helpful staff and really good quick food. We sat in one of the garden 'sheds' which is cosy with a heater, they went out of their way to make sure we were happy and looked after.
D. D.
Really cosy pub and great food. Quiet when I was there but normally busy
a. f.
Great atmospheric pub with great food in the restaurnt at the back. There is also a huge garden for warmer days and the food is excellent.
C. W.
The only reason for a 3 star revue is that we only called in for a drink. It looked quite a big place with large outdoor area. It also serves food, will try out the next time I visit.
V. B.
My family gathered to celebrate the life of my sister Pam who sadly passed away on Dec 30 .
When I called to book tables the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, I’d give them 50 stars if was possible .
We were seated in an area that was perfect for the occasion , Boyd brought our own personal cost stand and a bowl of water for our 3 sausage dogs .
The food was delicious most of us had the Sunday Roast with plenty of gravy available.the food was excellent!
Thankyou to Sarah who took my initial call , she was so helpful , I was passed to Boyd to finalise the booking, he was absolutely amazing and Elaine we chatted on the phone about pre ordering and chatted about my sister she was so kind.
Thank you for making the day so special
D. B.
Really nice family friendly pub. The beer garden has a really nice outdoor feel with AstroTurf and beach shacks. The service was good. We had two burgers. The beer and pulled pork burger was amazing but sadly the veggie burger was not as nice.
J. A.
Nice atmosphere, good service. But I think the food is overpriced for the area. £7 for a bit of cheese and crackers and £15 for very basic fish and chips.
J. F.
Great food and booze but some serious disorganisation with other orders coming to our table, and ours seemingly getting lost. Staff noticeably frustrated. Manager rectified by preparing my lunch herself. Top service there so it's shame these mistakes affect the overall experience.
S. L.
Lovely food. But was unfortunate to find dog poo in the outside areas near the tables which was a little off putting and I've been many tines before but I left this day because of it.
Inside is really stunning too. Worth a visit
J. B.
Lovely Sunday roast, albeit quite expensive. A real shame was how loud it was in there. My partner and I couldn't even concentrate or hear each other across a small table, due to how many children were in there and how loud their screaming was.
J. P.
Best meal we've had out on a Sunday for ages
D. J.
Quiet, quaint little hideaway on the top of the hill. With a unique fresh feel....family & friends alike will love this place!
Fantastic place for drinks, dinner or just to hang out and chill for a few hours....it's magical
J. H.
Very difficult downloading the app to order, but staff were friendly.
Good grub and nice to see some local live entertainment on a Saturday, even though the music itself wasn't really my kinda thing and it was a bit loud even though we were far away which made it difficult for us to have the catchup with friends that we'd planned.
G. G.
Nice environment shame the kitchen was so overwhelmed that they were not taking any walkin orders or bar snack orders. Would have stayed longer but went else as I needed something to eat.
D. S.
Nice pub, huge garden. Good food. Many babies.
K. W.
Staff were amazing and food was amazing too. I had the venison steak blue which was quite surprising because I didn't think they could do. We were recommended the apple strudle and that too was great. Enjoyed both times that I've visited many years apart.
D. V.
Our local. We love the place! Food is fantastic, there is a great selection of drinks, staff is super helpful and friendly and the venue is gorgeous. Booking is a must these days due to COVID-19.
C.
Amazing pub with great food. The staff are friendly with a customer service you would return for. Would recommend to everyone.
J. G.
Wood House has the most amazing beer garden I've seen in London. It's huge! They managed to fit our large party in when the weather turned bad and we had to relocate from the park for a birthday celebration. Great staff, super comfy under the marquee, great food and fast service. We'll be back again, thank you!
M. R.
First time at this wonderful place. Sat outside for a meet up with my 2 best friends - in the rain. We were dry and warm, food was lovely and the staff were very welcoming. Definitely recommend!

It would feel too generous to give more stars.
I went here with family and the ambiance the food and the servers were lovely for the most part.
The pork roast was lovely as was the duck breast salad and the bannoffee pie.
The pub garden was lovely and the awning provided suitable cover for when it started to drizzle and the outdoor heating did make a noticeable difference once it started becoming chilly in the evening.
The atmosphere was child friendly.
This brings me the major drawback.
the speed of service was abysmal. Having spent most of the afternoon there it was slow and very prone to errors.
Not delivering certain peoples starters. Delivering mains before starters, wrong beverages and taking various peoples orders giving them food before even realising that not everyone in the party had ordered.
Drinks also were very slow to the delivery quite often taking up to 20ish minutes to be delivered and food seemed to take forever in preparation in waiting about an hour and a half to two hours from arrival to food actually being served.
Quite frankly it's a lovely place but without exaggerating service speed and sloppiness marred what otherwise could have been a 5 star experience.
R. E.
Getting good Steak and chips has been a bit of a problem. This is a solution. We were very late for our booking but the staff were very good pulling the situation back working as a team. The Kitchen did them proud the steak was very tender and flavorful. The chips were very good. We did go from we're not make it to that was a meal and a half. Well done
P. L. R.
Great pub for a warm cosy pint or three, impressive building and decor too! It’s a bit of a trek to get to but people who live nearby are very lucky to have it as their local.
W. R.
Food was so much better this time around, but there was a wait for the food of over 45 minutes since we ordered it on their app. The food made up for the wait.
S. S.
Great outdoor seating for drinks in the sun. Try the sausage rolls they are out of this world!! The outside grill could have been very tasty if we'd had time to eat. Unfortunately there was only one IPA on tap.... A little disappointing for a trendy south east London pub. Either way a highly recommended drinking hole and eatery on the green mile walk.
P. S.
Good place for a roast in a nice location, near to some good walks. Large restaurant area at the back but you can order food to any table in the bar as well which is handy as it was very busy when we arrived and they didn't have seating in the main eating area.
B. G.
Had a meal here. Very attentive and wonderful staff. Couldn't fault them. The menu was a bit limited but the burger I had was lovely. We enjoyed ourselves and will be coming back. Thank you for a lovely service
E. B.
Really great spacious pub. Excellent roasts on Sunday and great walk nearby with Dulwich wood on doorstep.
M. L.
Really impressed. Went for my daughter's birthday and the food was really nice, the service even better. Good atmosphere
d. s.
We had our Christmas dinner here, food was excellent and the staff we're very friendly and helpful 5*
K. W.
Lovely pub with great staff and atmosphere. We had the fish pie, which although nice was a little bland, would be nice with a cheese sauce and an more seasoning. Although difficult to please everyone's taste.
S. H.
A lovely warm and cosy place
You can also order drinks to your table with the app
The staff are friendly and always willing to help
b. k.
Very clean. Wonderful food. .. Very polighty and. Welcoming staff...
S. S.
Great beer and food. Unfortunately, I found the service strange. Our drinks and cutlery/napkins took around 30 minutes to arrive. Wait staff weren't being clear or communicative about some things. It didn't feel all too welcoming but hey, the space had a great atmosphere.
B. H.
Great early Xmas lunch today at The Woodhouse. Excellent food, service and ambiance so thanks to the team.
E. B.
My partner and I had a fantastic afternoon watching the England Vs Germany game. The garden is great and the food/drink service was quick and yummy. Staff were incredibly attentive and an especially BIG thank you to Anna for going out of her way to find us a spot when we didn't have a booking. You made our day.
M. L.
Good vibes, lovely service. We have an amazing Sunday here
M. P.
Delicious Sunday roast, cooked up a vegan lentil pie as a vegan options for my girlfriend, and they've got a fantastic beer garden...perfect for a sunny London Sunday afternoon...
M. R.
Great pub, love the outdoor seating. Burger shack is great, pub food menu was lacking
B. J.
Great outdoor space and good quiz going on. Food a bit disappointing - gristly burger and cold chips, though my companions enjoyed theirs more. Great selection of drinks and table service.
S. T.
Really pretty and well set up for the outside dining. Just a shame about the overpriced drinks for what you get. Kitchen closed before we could order, by the time we had got half way through our 1st drinks the kitchen had closed. We waited so long for the drinks and no warning of kitchen closing. Most staff were really nice and helpful. One young female staff member had a disgusting attitude, heard her "ffs" under her breath but in ear shot think that was instead of saying excuse me, we were taking a picture. Other staff helped us take the pic. She'd swooped by telling us time to leave (area still full of guests) all other staff were great with last orders, then offers of plastic cups to leave with in plenty of time, people were still seated as we left so we weren't taking a long time to leave or anything. Crop top & slouchy hoody was clearly having a bad day but was outwardly aggressive and confrontational. Staring, stomping around etc. The app only let's you put one payment method in & saves it, so you all have to install the app or one person pays for it all. This & the price for basics can be managed in your expectations but I won't be recommending because of the service.
A. B.
Great pub, lovely staff, big spacious yard and building. Perfect for relaxing drinks.
R. J.
Came from a walk in Dulwich Woods and didn’t have a reservation on this sunny Saturday, but they had a table available outside in the lovely sunshine for the two of us and the dog. Staff incredibly friendly and welcoming, service quick, drinks and beer cold and food delicious. Will definitely be coming here again.
P. M.
Lovely garden, fantastic staff, clean beer dunno what more to say.
S. A.
We came here on Christmas Eve afternoon - it is a lovely and welcoming, relaxed environment, and the truffle fries are amazing!
H. S.
Lovely Pub with a really big garden. Staff very friendly!
P. L.
Very nice pub, good draft beers and fine food.
P. G.
Lovely pub with an excellent and massive garden. The staff really looked after us and should be commended. Thankyou
S. C.
Lovely outdoor space with some cabins which we sat in. Heaters available too.
The food was very good and came quickly. Fish and chips roasted vegetable tart and crab cakes all went down well as did the children's burger and chips. Good value and excellent staff maintaining good distancing with hand sanitizer available on entry. One way system worked well. Inside looked very nice and comfortable too. Will be back. In fact booked again for Sunday.
N. O.
The staff were welcoming and the atmosphere was cosy on a blustery day. The garden was closed but looked spacious. I had an Estrella that tasted buttery and tainted with diacetyl. They happily replaced it for me with no fuss and I got a Camden Hells which did taste a little fresher but not perfect. If they took more care of their beer then it would be a much better pub.
i. c.
We had a great evening and the food was delicious. They deserve 5 stars.
L. S.
Nice day ,sat in garden excellent meal with my wife, granddaughter and her partner. Well worth a visit, prices reasonable too
T. B.
Nice pub, a little bit pricey but you get what you pay for.....nice interior seating too...
B. S. (.
Came here with 2 babies and 3 other adults yesterday and really enjoyed it. Although we booked an inside table for 3pm (the only slot available), we were able to get a seat in their lovely beer garden at 2pm so cancelled our booking. We purchased a few rounds of drinks as well as a burger, 2 roast chickens and fish and chips. The food wasn't served at the same time (burger came about 15mins earlier) but when it arrived was fairly well enjoyed across the table. The roast chickens were generous in size with a lovely gravy and generous sides. The potatoes weren't crunchy and the greens were underseasoned and undercooked but otherwise really lovely. The burger and dirty fries were a great hit and I'll definitely be getting one next time. The fish and chips seemed quite small by comparison with a tiny portion of peas and tartar, and a somewhat stingy portion of soggy fries (meant to be thrice cooked but came soft and oily). Other than that we really enjoyed the drinks, service and above all ambience and would definitely return.
E. S.
Love the garden. Been going to this pub since I was 5 years old when I went with family now it is a favourite local of mine.
h.
Very Nice Place good to get a pint of guisness with the wife and kids my sons 45
P. D.
It was so good to be back🥰 First outing with BFF after lockdown, warm welcome and great service. It was so nice to relax, feel safe, eat, drink and have a good old natter. This is one of our favs💗
S. B.
Have always been a fan of the garden and inside, but food better today than I’ve had before (had a great burger and pudding and the other food looked really nice too) and the staff were just lovely, super friendly. We hadn’t booked and were lucky to get a table after a short wait. Perfect place to refresh after a walk in the woods.
S. H.
Good pub with lovely garden..... but we ordered food for our kids and they brought it out with no cutlery, sauce or condiments. I had to go and ask for these basic things. Prices are a bit high as well.
A. f.
Garden area was really nice. Ordered via a QR code on the table. Service was quick and staff were friendly. Was busy when I visited but spaced out well.
A. D.
Very good atmosphere and food, plenty of space, really liked it
R. M.
Oh wow what a fog friendly place. 31st night dinner was absolutely the best steak 🥩
S. R.
very good food and service but they a little pricey
J. J.
Loved warming by the fire and blondie makes a cracking cocktail. Our new spot for staying local.
N. H.
The outside space here is huge and fantastic, even better than it already was before all the lockdowns, etc, with attractive huts and large undercover tented area. The Youngs app works well for ordering once been able to install which can be a little laborious if needing to connect to the WiFi and register for that too. Food and drinks are good, enjoyed the Burger Shack in particular.
F. B.
Our lovely local has come back fighting! The most welcoming and naturally friendly staff, delish and varied menu, perfect little garden setting. Doesn't feel like a Young's pub! Very personal touch.
C. D.
I have just visited The Wood House with six family members We have had a wonderful time the food all roasts were outstanding and the desserts were fresh and delicious The staff were very courteous and friendly and our waiter Andre could not have given us better service even though he was incredibly busy Fabulous
E. I.
Lovely pub, the food was very tasty, great cocktails, dog friendly and great atmosphere.
J. A.
Enjoyable evening in spacious customer friendly garden. We all enjoyed our food, standard pub grub cooked well - Camden on draught. Good service. The new manager made us all feel very welcome. Will be returning.
A. L.
Afternoon drinks & dinner late July'20
Great location with massive potential. The food is quite expensive for portion size & quality. Food is more mass chain rather than creative & independent
Agree with another review the service is sketchy at times & just needs to sharpening up with organisation & some enthusiasm. We were often ignored when asking for drinks, then informed "I only serve the drinks" I hope my points are constructive
G. D.
Just had lunch at the Woodhouse, absolutely beautiful food. The setup is also perfect. Staff very polite and friendly. Will be booking again with family as it was just perfect
N. B.
Good food. Lovely staff. Excellent back garden for summer with comfy chairs and cute cabanas. The outdoor space is great for families as well. My only gripe is the price of spirits which is a little on the higher side compared to other places. But the atmosphere is so relaxing it doesn't cross your mind so much.
J. H.
Attentive staff with creative garden. Poor beer selection, we don't all drink lager. Please provide a written list as I cannot hear your muffled speech behind masks.
M. C.
Excellent Sunday lunch, good atmosphere
J. L.
Exceptional service. Friendly staff and great menu
M. A.
We had lunch here to celebrate our wedding. It was a small one, only 11 guests. The staff and the manager were really nice and attentive throughout the service, and even before, when arranging the booking. We booked a table in the conservatory area which is beautiful. All the guests were very impressed, including my family which came all the way from Spain and it felt really good that they were happy with the venue that we picked.
The food was very good too and very well presented. The only complaint about the food would be that we found the peppercorn sauce for the steaks to be very watery. Apart from that we were very satisfied with this venue/food/service and we would definitely book this again. 5 stars from us :)
L. M.
Fantastic facilities, really spacious outside area which was perfect for our party. The staff were really friendly and quick service. Perfect!
B. M.
Only a brief visit for a Sunday roast but very impressed with the open plan dining area. Food choice and quality could not be faulted. Service also friendly and efficient. Garden seating area big with seating Pods around the edge in which food from the menu can be eaten so good for families and groups.
P.
We went here for a date and we had a great night. We chose to sat by the fireplace and it was best decision we could make! Jose our waiter was very proffesional and attentive. He would notice from far away our glasses were empty and came to pour more wine or water into them. Such things really make the difference. He knew the menu well and suggested us perfectly. The veggie pie was very nice. Give it a go! Can't wait for summer and enjoy their outside area.
C. E.
Great staff, friendly and efficient. Beef burger and bun was good, however it's dressing was disappointing, needing more salad girkin and stronger cheese to enrich the dish.
A. T.
Huge garden, table service can be hit and miss but thats what the apps for I suppose. Easy to use.
B. C.
Amazing Sunday lunch :)
Dogs welcomed at this place as well, full of families.
L. W.
Very friendly staff, great social distancing and lovely food
B. W.
Great place. Good selection of beers. Large but intimate indoors with plenty of comfortable seating (and air conditioning which was a welcome relief the day we visited) and photos of the great Crystal Palace.
We only ordered from the brunch menu but was tasty and good value - my pulled pork and apple-slaw in a brioche bun was awesome.
Kids menu was standard fare but again of good quality and value.
Excellent and extensive beer garden too made this an excellent stop for lunch.
C. b.
Lovely atmosphere in the conservatory with the modern fire. Food was delicious and the outside seating area looked inviting. Will definitely return and look forward to visiting in the summer for an outside experience.
S. L.
Prices have for much more competitive so really happy to go back there. The staff are lovely too.
R. D.
Stayed in the well organised and socially distanced sunny garden on a lovely afternoon. Very relaxed table service you can down load an app or order directly from a waiter. Sign into Young's WiFi for track and trace. A nice experience.
D. C.
Lovely pub with a huge garden. Currently booked up online but accepting walk-ins. We sat in the sun round the front and had a great afternoon.
C. R.
Pit stop at the Dulwich Woodhouse. It's amazing. Little huts, covered area with heaters, and they give hot water bottles! Service is amazing, they are constantly cleaning. This is the best place I have been in the pandemic. Once the Tory clusterfucks let us out again, we I am just going to move in.
M. B.
Had my Sunday roast here.. what a hidden gem!!! Really enjoyed my meal and the environment was rustic and just a pleasurable place to visit. They have access to eating outside but at the time it was really cold. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures but when I next visit I'll definitely provide images
J. M.
Fantastic staff, Brilliant service friendly atmosphere… my favourite place to eat out with group of friends. Highly recommended
A. S.
Very comfortable indoors and out. Great decor and layout, plenty of space and a big beer garden for the summer, complete with burger shack. Great range of beers. Only downside is the Sunday roast can sometimes be a bit hit-or-miss. But the food is generally good.
C. C.
Hosted my engagement party and they were fabulous. Thank you :)
A. R.
Great place, outdoor area is top class, atmosphere was great, servers were great. Will happily come back again
N. B.
Cosy pub with welcoming realfire and stove. Makes all the difference
S. G.
Had a lovely meal with a large group of friends at the Woodhouse recently. The waitress was great, making sure to take the kids orders with our drinks so they would get their food as soon as possible, which we really appreciated. The food was lovely, especially the fish and cannot fault the service. Price was reasonable too. Will definitely be going back but would prefer not to be seated in the conservatory which was quite loud.
T. F. C.
Lovely Sunday roast and service. Despite the pub being very busy and having to wait a while for our food, our server Thomas was extremely attentive and friendly and made our visit so much better!
T. C.
Great pub near the Sydenham hill station. You’ll really earn your lunch or dinner after a walk up the hill. The fish and chips is excellent and I’d highly recommend it. Very friendly and attentive staff, they quickly turned our food around as we had to be at an event afterwards.
J. N. R.
Food-wise the service was decent - had to wait for sardines but they were excellent, as was the sea trout. Plenty of beers but all a little samey tbh. Good atmosphere and good for kids too. Could quite easily spend a long boozey day here!
B. D.
Great pub, food is good and staff are friendly. Nice outdoor seating.
R. G.
Very large, spacious pub with a huge outdoor area. I would say that three quarters are covered by a large marquee. Lots of seating Nd also a few cubicles. They even suoply blankets. I attend a wedding lunch. I ended up having the sirloin steak. I have mine well done and it was cooked to perfection. I can only imagine that during the summer months it would be the perfect place to spend an evening outside.
It's very clean and the waitress assigned to is was very attentive. She even offered to be our photographer. If only I had taken her name I would have mentioned her.
I will be visiting again once the weather warns up a bit to experience the outside area.
d. d. g.
Great pub and atmosphere. Lovely staff and selection. Plus it was a great surprise to bump into in after a long walk in the woods. HIghly recommended!
A. O.
Just had the Lamb Shank pie, best pub food I've had in a long long time👌🏼. Excellent friendly staff & a fantastic decor within!
E. H.
First off, the setting is fantastic. The outside area has recently been redone, and it is a pleasure to sit and have food and drinks in the garden. The food is great, good sized portions, including a free cheese board with each bottle of wine. However, the service is what lets this place down. Staff seem uninterested and not in any way attentive. When we asked for the bill, I'm pretty sure we got a huff from a waitress, as if we'd asked her to do something extraordinary. If the service improves, this place could be very good.
J. W.
Nice gastro pub also good for a drink which cannot be said for many of these places where they only set the tables for dinner and leave no room for a quick drink.that is not the case here however and they are quite a few comfortable chairs to be had at off-peak times especially. At the weekends especially in the summer this place is a very middle class family place with lots of kids which is great although not for me personally.
N. S. F.
Has an area outside that is available for walk in and they were really accommodating. Great vegan choices of food and a lovely atmosphere.
P. B.
Lovely garden, very well organised for distancing, ordering via the app and table service works well, and the burgers are delicious!
j. f.
Amazing beer garden! Perfect for sport and summer drinks but the food is too overpriced, and not many vegetarian options
S. P.
Had an outstanding roast over the weekend, everything was beautifully presented and so much variety of roast dinners on the menu! Coming up the Sydenham hill station through the woods and seeing the oasis at the top of the hill made for a great family Sunday. We where served quickly which was a surprise considering how busy the garden was, we had a very professional Irish man who served me and my family and really made our day. We will 100% be back!
H. L.
Good food nice setting. Polite staff
M. M.
Lovely pub with friendly staff. There is a real feel that you are away from London, which is exactly what you want after a day at work.
Disappointed to be told on my first visit that if ordering food in the bar that all my courses would come at once as no-one looked after tables in the bar. Seemed very odd concept for serving food!
R. C.
Great pub with cosy sofas and friendly staff
l. s.
Lovely afternoon lunch at this pub, booked a garden table for a friends bday lunch. Staff were very busy but very polite and attentive. Food and wine great, only complaint is lack of vegetarian options on menu. Otherwise, great atmosphere and good pub!
A. B.
From start person at the entry was rude, only because I didn’t want to download their app, which upset me for all of the evening; rest of staff were good and polite, food was good.
T. L.
Excellent venue, Thank you Izzie for great service, lovely food and atmosphere, lovely garden huts 😘will definitely return.
L.
We are spoiled for choice of pubs locally but the Wood House is my firm favourite. Lovely, warm atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. The beer garden is brilliant in Summer. They also run monthly events that are perfect for a night out with mates.
T.
Hidden gem. I have been to many work events here always a pleasant experience. I struggle to find words to describe The Wood House hence the description 'Hidden Gem'. It is just that. Slightly hidden in a lovely location where there are no other amenities. Located just off a road well served by public transport. There is free parking on surrounding roads. It is quiet enough that you could be forgiven for believing that you are in the countryside.
The building is lovely and spacious both inside and out. Outside area huge, pleasant to look at with lots of places to sit and have a chat. It is well used but never feels crowded (I'm interested to know how they do this). Extremely well decorated neutral colours with a rustic feel, much like a cross between a huge cottage farm kitchen and fine dining. So welcoming, homey and clean you don't want to leave.
Food freshly made and exquisite, drinks on demand. Staff pleasant and attentive to needs. A great place for everyone to unwind from corporate to personal events. To families, individuals and couples there is space for everyone. I can't think of another place like this, maybe because there isn't any!
Worth visiting at least once.
😁🍸
E. S.
Lovely food and great atmosphere. The service was amazing and the staff were lovely - our waiter, Jose, done so much to ensure we had a great time ☺️
A. R.
Very nice and lovely place to sit with friends and family atmosphere is very comfortable staff is very friendly and helpful never had any bad experience I love this place especially in summer and if there is full moon night then this place is amazing you can sit on the garden which is well maintained beautiful neat and clean while having beer at night you can site the moon that take you to wild nights as you are sitting in the jungle and having all these facilities this please is ideal for those who like nature even not far from city but this place is surrounded by a nice woodland and air quality is very fine due to a woodland and pine trees. Even this place provides a good family atmosphere you can attend this place with family for a fine dine the dining area is also amazing you can fine rarely these type of places in around this area waiting for summer to visit this place
M. C.
Haven't been there for 30 years, wow all my memories came back!!! Lovely pub now, staff impressed me so friendly 👍 only went there to have a chat with someone. Will eat there next time, lovely experience 🙏
L. R.
Fantastic Food And Drinks. The atmosphere is so relaxed and clean. The Resturant has a old high end cottage style Look lovely an cosy. The Staff are all Friendly and make sure you are very happy and comfortable. There sticky toffee pudding sauce was the best I have ever had. Definatly going back.
L. W.
Very large South East London pub. Lots of space inside and out. Not a great choice of food but it is okay
R. B.
The Wood House looks fantastic after its refit, really liked the layout. The food was as expected; good 4/5. The service was poor, it brought down the whole experience. On a busy day I would excuse a 20+min delay on getting water that we'd ordered, but we were one of the few sitting inside @8 on 21/7/16. To be told you didn't have 'sparkling' water was not good, your stock level should be better. First member of staff had a poor attitude, didn't want to be there clearly, everything was too much effort. The other staff member was covering her tables efficiently and then trying to help the other lady to try to bring a decent service. She did her best.
Not in a hurry to go back here for a night out in afraid, sort your customer service skills out!
D. D.
Nice pub but do not like the fact that you have to wait to be served for quite a while.
We waited 25 mins to get a drink and were not eating. Do not agree with the app when only wanting a drink.
G. A.
Good food. Brilliant atmosphere especially on a hot summers day. It is the place to be in and around crystal palce. Dinner is good menu can be expanded and changed more often but it is good. Different range of beer is v good. Burger shack in their garden is stellar.
n. m.
The outside space here is amazing, one of the best in South East London. They also have a huge covered area, burger shack and friendly staff.
J. W.
I have been drinking here for since 1976 (37yrs) and although the pub has changed into a "gastropub",and has had several Publicans (some good ,some not so good) I have always found the staff friendly and amiable. The beer may be dear but the atmosphere inside on a winter's day and the great garden on the rare sunny days make up for it. The food can be expensive but is always tasty and usually quickly served. The only time that there may be a delay is on a summer Sunday afternoon, as the pub gets very busy. My advice is to visit midweek when you can sit in the garden, which is a sun trap with very little wind, and enjoy a nice relaxed drink.
P. M.
An absolutely smashing beer garden, nicely turned out interior and the food was really tasty. I had the tomato, goat's cheese and chilli soup, which I am going to try to recreate at home, and the grey mullet for main course, where the fish played second fiddle to the vegetables, which were gently spiced and delicious.
I. M.
Friendly staff and management waiting staff very efficient . Service with a smile
C. E.
I have passed this place a million times and have never ventured inside... what a lovely place. I went with a friend the other day for lunch, which turned into dinner time. We were there so long. The place is vast and gorgeous. The food was lovely and the service great. I will definitely be telling people to go here.
R. M.
Good, friendly service and great observance of COVID guidelines. Food was alright if a little uninspired but tasty nonetheless. Clearly a place for the summer with a huge beer garden.
K. B.
Beautiful decor and great fire place. But expensive, limited cider options and the chips we ordered were burnt. Pretty terrible considering they were £4. Also the staff did not listen. We asked for condiments after he asked if we would like any and then after waiting a while, we had to remind the gentleman of our request despite it not being busy. Disappointing find.
G. K.
Excellent choice for a Sunday lunch in this large pub in Crystal Palace. Extensive beer garden looks like a good choice for more clemant weather.
Service team is really friendly and efficient even with two small children.
N. R.
Lovely garden outside but just run down now - lots of uncleared tables (seemingly from the day before) and cigarette butts / glasses on the floor etc on the floor. Shame as they have spent a lot of money on it but are not maintaining to the standard I would expect. Left and didn’t order food as didn’t feel happy with my child running around as a result.
C. D.
very chic,beatiful relaxing atmosphere
W. D.
My local. Fine pub. Young's and Camden brewery beers. Menu has options for vegetarians and those with allergies. Changes frequently. Lots of different spaces inside pub from intimate snugs to big open tables. Great garden area. Child and stuff friendly.
P. T.
Decent food, dog friendly and love the 'working from the pub' offer.
V. H. S.
Looove this pub!! Dog and child friendly. With many different spaces( cosier or more social, sport screens) The garden is amazing and gets very lively in summer. The food is good but a bit on the pricey side. The mobile signal is aweful in this street.
B.
Great pub in a quiet location, huge rear garden with a large front seating area for those long summer afternoons, parking is good, dogs are allowed, great for children, you can order food from the outside cookout hut or fine dine inside in one of its two dining areas, inside is large and spacious. Great venue, go check it out.
M. L.
This pub is large both internally and externally. Outside the beer garden has its own Burger Shack and inside there is a dining room. I also like the snug that they have created. This is a Young's pub so don't expect too much deviation from their own ales. When I visited I had a beef burger that was very nice. I think the main downside to this pub is that it has Young's identikit modern pub interior. At the time of my visit the bar staff were overtly complaining about one of the customers sat around the corner for what seemed like something pointless. This was extremely rude and unprofessional.
M. S.
Had a brilliant birthday party here for our daughter age 10. Food for 15 hungry children arrived at the requested time, and the service was impeccable.. Having also won 6-1 in the football helped too. A big shout out to Magda who was brilliant - well done.. Happy Dad.. Mike
P. C.
I was in the sumptuous garden yesterday (Friday afternoon) great Guinness and homemade Scotch egg's. Shane and Andrew, excellent staff and happy to chat. Proving customer service is once again excellent at this wonderful pub. I've been in customer service for years but hadn't been here for a couple of years. 5 star's all the way guy's.
I. H.
My first pint in this pub was in 1976, it was heaving, people overspilling into the side road, huge garden ram-packed and a 20 minute wait at the bar and the sensible punters held onto the same glass all-night to avoid the plastic as they are too busy to wash up. Sadly none of this is true nowadays, nice pub great beers and friendly staff.
K. C.
Nice stopping point, expecially if you walked up the hill from Sydenham Hill Station. Very dog friendly and good parking and garden... One of the few original pubs that still have the old lantern towers, once used to guide travellers across the old common at night.
S. A.
Excellent food, professional waiting staff with s smile, spotlessky clean venue.
M. P.
Coped reasonably well with the challenges of the first day of tier 2 Covid restrictions, albeit long wait for a booked table; table service will no doubt speed up as the staff become more familiar with the tier 2 regime
T. F.
I love, love, love this pub and the garden and food are epic.
J. M.
Decent local Young's pub. Nice food and good for stopping off after a walk in the nearby Sydenham hill woods. Large garden with heated huts which mean it's good for kids to run around in the outdoors whilst you enjoy a pint in the warm
P. D.
A smart gastro refit from Young's, but one that will quickly date imo. Friendly but slow service, geared towards food not drinking. Families and children create a provincial "Harvester" feel, lacking any pub ambience. Prices are expensive, given the fact the place is in the middle of nowhere. Beer garden could be nice in the summer.
S. M.
Haven't been here for years! Really decent, if a bit trendy, pub. Glad to see the Mulberry tree is still in the garden. Reckon it will be a bit of a bun fight in the summer though, when the yummy mummies/ hipster lot vie for the "chalets". Deffo worth a visit or three. Not tried the food as yet. Will do in the future, when I've saved up.
p. p.
Surrounded by tall trees with outdoor booths in the garden and a very pleasant restaurant plus a lounge bar. Now becoming one of my regular haunts. No car park but a wide street outside with plenty of parking space. Excellent establishment.
T. J. F.
Great restaurant/pub. Lovely setting with nice large beer garden, hidden from the main road. Very friendly and helpful staff and brilliant food. Cannot recommend it highly enough!
D. M.
Great place, large but intimate and cosy rooms, amazing beer garden, extremely family friendly.
Have organised my wife's birthday here for several years, to raving results. Will keep doing so as long as we're in the area.
A. P.
Enormous modern pub and garden offering proper gastro food or a burger shack plus cocktails alongside the usual manly drinks. I tried the vegan salad which was delicious, especially if you're a rabbit. How about offering a vegan burger too?
M. C.
Great service, great food, no long wait for the food, one downside is the knives are way to blunt. The roast belly pork is out of this world, best I've ever eaten hands down!!!.
S. B.
Super friendly staff and amazing outdoor space. Shame about the other 1 star reviews during a pandemic...
B. J.
Food good, ambience warm and friendly. Recommend.
A. R.
I read the reviews and was very hesitant to visit the pub, however we decided to go anyway and it was great. It seems that they have maybe learnt from past reviews and the are maybe past problems as when I went the food was quick and excellent. The food was delicious and the environment was great. the staff were very polite and made the effort to make sure the service was great.
m. s.
Absolute diamond hidden away near a great little park (Wells Park), fantastic garden with benches, tables and shaded garden booths for sunny days with child friendly surroundings, the burger shack menu is fantastic for the little ones or a quick snack but there is a more sophisticated menu from the kitchen inside that does food words just don't quite do justice.
Myself and my partner are massive fans of this pub since finding it and always enjoy a nice drink with great recommendation so far on whiskey, cider and gin.
G. O.
Love The Wood House! It is a great place for Sunday roast or drink in the garden. Perfect for families with kids as the garden is huge. Great location with woods nearby.
I thoroughly enjoyed the duck today.
M. D.
Very good food and atmosphere. Beautiful garden.
A. A.
Great new outdoor space under a giant teepee Beavertown beers. Good food. Great staff.
Y. F.
Brilliant gastro. Lovely outdoor area and friendly staff. Wood fire burns in the colder months, I love working in here too, WiFi and brilliant hot drinks.... and of course a cocktail or wine!
R. M.
Great service, super atmosphere and lovely food👍
B. M.
Went there on spur of the moment as it was my nephews birthday. Loved it, the food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed.
C. H.
Great decor, cosy, fantastic beer garden and feels like countryside in London but its a nightmare for food at weekends and in summer as it gets rammed to busy for the kitchen to cope so they periodically close the kitchen to catch up with orders!. Weekends avoid but in the week its great and a wonderful experience.
D. T.
Good range of beer. Just renovated garden area. Food is overpriced for what it is. Staff are friendly. Sometimes a little slow to get served. Pleasant environment inside.
S. D.
Been here a few times both for a meal and just for drinks. The staff have always been friendly, the food great and the beer good. Lovely to sit in the garden on a sunny afternoon.
K. K.
As this was our first visit to our new 'local', we were looking forward to it. Whilst the welcome was warm, and the service attentive, I'm sorry to say the food was a huge disappointment. This pub really doesn't deserve the term 'gasto'. The squid starter my partner and I shared was delicious. However, my salmon, advertised as being served on a 'bed of stir fried vegetables with chilli' arrived served on a indistinguishable goop of soggy microwaved/reheated vegetables that had lost all colour, texture and flavour. My partner had one of the pub's signature roasts ... what a disappointment! The pork 'crackling' was clearly just bought en masse in a frozen packet, and bore little resemblence to the real McCoy. The roast potatoes were soggy. The Yorkshire pudding a dry husk. Though my salmon was delicious, and perfectly cooked, this dish definitely did NOT warrant the £16 price tag. Did we happen to go at a bad time? I don't think so. We opted for an early dinner, on a night we knew the pub would be busy later on, so I'm afraid I can't really even give the kitchen staff the benefit of the doubt on that front. To finish on a positive note, back where I started, the waiting staff really were very warm and friendly, and we will go back another time just to check we weren't unlucky this time, and we'll probably stick to ordering standard pub grub!
D. G.
I've been three times since refurbished. The pub and garden looks great, but they have to sort the service out. Seems a shame to have spent so much money to make the place to look so great when the experience is ruined by the fact that nobody seems to know what's going on. Food is tasty but is served late or cold or wrong...
S. C.
The food was a cut above the normal London pub grub, even in a 'gastropub' (what a dreadful word). It was not cheap, and although the staff were pleasant the service was slow despite the pub being almost empty. I liked the decor, and the garden looked really well appointed. I'd recommend it, and I would go again.
I. J.
Great pub with good outdoor seating area and also areas with covered booths.
Friendly staff nice food with reasonable selection of beers and lagers. Good Bands play there regularly.
R. E.
Great beer garden. Good food, although we had to wait a while on a busy Sunday lunch. Helpful staff who accommodated the requirements of a slightly fussy eight year old.
D. C.
Such a nice, warm, inviting, beautiful pub
d. B.
Great outdoor space.
Book a table b4 going.
The app to order is horrific.
You have been warned.
T. L.
Unfortunateky it's becoming a victim of its own success. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and tried to order food 3 times over course of 2 hours. Each time was unsuccessful due to kitchen being too busy . Overall a nice place full of Dulwich types with young families and dogs reading guardian etc. Obvs mandatory men in lycra also there having completed a leg of a bike race.
A. G.
Great tasting food served in a fantastic atmosphere. A spacious pub with a modern design and a nice and sunny beer garden. Recommended!
J. S.
Lots of nice outside seating. Limited menu but food was nice.
J. C.
Great venue for husband's 40th although disappointed as booked on understanding Burger Shack would be opened but didn't at the last minute, on the day (because another party cancelled?!) Most of party ended up buying burgers from menu at nearly double the price so a bit cheeky! All in all would go back again
C. G.
In a secluded spot but well worth the effort. Epic beer garden with a leafy surrounding but good sun coverage. Dog friendly as well if bringing a canine in tow.
S. G.
Very cosy pub with amazing garden, which is spacious, comfortable and boasts an incredible atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and the sausage rolls in particular are highly recommended.
J. B.
Its actually one of my favourite pubs but occasionally the quality of food and delivery collapses, and the whole experience is like something on a bad kitchen reality TV show. Sunday trading is not an excuse when its the business you're in. Sort yourselves out Young's. Roster, retain and train your staff and restaurant management properly.
J. D.
Great pub... family oriented... kids liked the burgers... bit over priced at £14 for burger and chips but in general... really nice place and atmosphere
C. R.
Went for a birthday lunch. Very pleasant and the food was good. Not my part of London though, so unlikely to be visiting again unless there is another family get together.
L. C.
Friendly staff, nice variety of beers and ciders. The outside beer garden was really cool and gave a good vibe. An all round pub with good food too
J. M.
the Sunday roast was very good the beef was excellent nice veggies aswell service a bit slow the pub was very
clean and the loos all in all we had a nice afternoon
K. h.
Love this place so relaxing and all staff very pleasant
C. R.
Sunday lunch good food, lovely building and welcoming attentive staff.
Enjoyed our time there in such lovey surroundings
K. M. M.
Nice pub with friendly staff. Lovely location and well looked after. Good food too!
R. R.
Went to the woodhouse today to celebrate 3 birthdays what a fantastic experience the food was excellent and the staff were exemplary I would recommend them to all my friends and family what a great day
J. M. V.
Good and nice place. The kitchen closes at 10PM but they done us the favor of book a hamburger and when we arrived was ready. It was tasty :)
L. C. S.
Excellent service and really good food. I enjoyed my afternoon/evening. Happy to go back anytime soon
A. C.
Had been there and I had an amazing dinner Sunday roast. Very good customer service and again the food is delicious. Highly recommended
M.
Lovely pub and pretty pub garden. Well organised for Covid, have to check in and sanitise on entry and use an app to buy food and drink
L. B.
A nicely outfitted gastropub. Complete with a large conservatory dining area with central fireplace, and for the sunnier days; outside tables and booths with a 'Burger Shack' window (though anything from the full menu is available also).
The food itself is of a high standard - big portion roasts, fish and chips, and more nicely done general pub fare. Today I had an extremely welcome halloumi, new potato, green bean and red pepper warm salad with Harissa.
A great stop if you're visiting the adjacent woods and folly.
J. P.
It's a great venue.. lovely location and the building and outside area is really awesome.. only thing that let's it down slightly in my view (but still 4 out of 5!) Is that it can get a bit messy.. in other words it's totally normal to see empty tables piled with empty drinks and litter.. I guess this is normal when busy but it does tend to be a common occurrence.. toilets get a bit messy... Get staff to clean up a bit more proactively and for sure a 5 star review..
V. M.
I'm very fussy when it comes to food, however...! This place did an excellent job today - great food, delivered quickly, lovely pudding and nice ambience. Nice enough I felt the need to say thanks The Wood House :)
A. o.
Menu terrible while o understand they want to meet all customer desires. The menu was terrible mainly vegaterian/vegan ( don't they like chips) there were none to be had on the menu. Vwr6 disappointing.
E. B.
Good service. Nice outdoor space, but brunch came out a bit cold and on the bland side.
L. H.
Friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere.
I. M.
Lovely outdoor area with an excellent Sunday Roast. Good compliance with Covid restrictions.
T. T.
Great service, all Covid protocols observed and though the menu was limited, the food was great.
C. G.
Very pleasant evening. Music a bit loud inside. But moving into the outside area solved that problem.
T. A.
Went here for a closed group meet, staff very accommodating and a lovely gastro pub feel and menu. Just a bit pricey is all, will come a little more flush in future.
K. S.
Friendly waitress, nice decor and reasonable food but we had to wait almost an hour for it to arrive although the pub wasn't at all busy hence only 3 stars.
D. M.
Busy Sunday and they looked after us well.
5 Blokes with 5 prams, babies etc.
Its busy though, and there was some confusion with the side door being staff only, I believe due to them packing in another table to an already compact floor plan.
Anyway its busy, book or get there for when it opens.
Its also full of people with kids, so be prepared.
M. D.
Brilliant place. Bit pricey but worth the extra few bob. Brilliant outdoor burger shack if no seats inside. Fab place for families with small children.
A. G.
After multiple renovations pver the past 10 years , it looks as if they have finally got the balance between pub and restaurant about right. Comfy and friendly bar area and reasonable food - if a tad pricy...
L. R.
Fantastic service and great food esp there banana sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel ice cream. It's Defo a regular spot for me to get a great dinner or lunch
F. O.
Lovely gastropub. Great outdoor space that is dog friendly. Even have treats for your pampered pets! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit

The Wood House is one of the best pubs I've been to. Lovely deco and cosy atmosphere. Brilliant place to be. Not far from Chrystal Palace Park.

Great location and very nice pub with friendly staff. I had a roast dinner which was just ok but miles away from the Alama in Crystal Palace for example...
K. B.
Friendly pub with good atmosphere. Family and dog friendly. Well laid out garden tables. Good choice of pumps at the bar.

It was a busy and stressful night for the staff when we went so service was slow. The food is good though and I'd go again to see what was different, under better circumstances.
D. A.
Lovely large outside space and attentive staff
I. M.
Excellent cooking and presentation in splendid surroundings. Hard to believe it's a pub really.
J. L.
Average burger took more than 45mins to arrive. Service a complete shambles. Real shame as it's a lovely pub with a great garden.

Fabulous beer garden!!
Lots of seating. Relaxed, homely vibe and tasty food. Traditional yet modern, and super staff.

Great Sunday roasts, but you must book and don't even think about getting a roast past 5/6pm as they almost always sell out!
S. K.
Lovely lunch, food great, staff happy helpful and garden looks fab.
J. B.
Nice pub, big with a large garden great for summer and a burger house built out back, little pricey though
N. H.

Great place for a party, nice Atmosphere and the staff are great, always treated wonderful by Catia on my visits. Would be 5 stars except it’s a bit expensive for what you get.
I. M.
Nice outdoor area, decent pub-food, and surprisingly big; makes for a nice break at the top of the steep hill from Sydenham Hill Station!
M. P.
Excellent service and very good food. Usual London prices for drinks, so can run up quickly.
N. S.
Lovely pub Would go again
C. M.
An absolutely superb pub - could do with a larger lunch menu in my opinion, but will definitely go back!
O.
Everything is good about this pub except one thing - the food from the main menu is always overcooked or a bit old.
R. S.
Nice spinach quinoa salad. Good beer. One of the best places in the area.
H. O.
Lovely space and great food and friendly staff.
A. D.
A great pub that has lovely outside seating and plenty of space inside. Look out for the burger bar in the summer, great for a quick bite.
B. C.
Nice but overly expensive

Lovey pub/resturant since the refurb garden is to die for, love the burger shak only thing is the price range think they are in central london or something.
m. m.
Classy pub with a large sunny garden. Great burgers from their burger shack. Very child friendly.
J. C.
Loved ambience. Fantastic burgers when busy quite a long wait. Staff friendly great garden.
P. M.
A decent gastro-pub that lacks any genuine warmth. Mainly middle-class clientele so it's safe if a little characterless.
A. L.
Friendly staff. Food was tasty and value for money. Wide range of beers.
R. P.
Fantastic outside area. Food is average, service average. Lovely looking pub with lots of potential
M.
Best pub in London.
S. M.
Great atmosphere especially now during covid. Excellent service and food

Staff (Elaine) was very helpful and a breath of fresh air in these trying times
K. M.
Pleasant ambience and staff. Roast beef and vegetables marginally warmer than the ice cream, but it was a close contest.
R. M.
Went there lunchtime last Sunday. Hadn't been there for years and thought we would try it since the refurbishment. Left 10 minutes after arriving as we were completely ignored by the staff. Very poor customer service and will not be returning.
C. B.
This is a safe bet. Amazing garden, standard gastro pub. Lacks a bit of atmosphere unless it's rammed.

Nice enough ambiance though the food was unremarkable and the bar service about as disinterested as imaginable without actually being rude.
