Reviews of The Boathouse, Yalding
I. R.
Great location and very friendly and efficient service. Food was good.
Plenty of seating inside and out a large part of which is covered by a canopy.
Parking at the pub is quite limited but there is a large field just across the river. It only costs £3 a day and there is a foot bridge over the river to the pub.
A. E.
Beautiful setting, lovely food, friendly staff. I really didn't mind being asked to go to the.pub counter to order, but I don't think it's right to expect the public to carry out their own drinks and food. I felt unsteady and saw someone trip slighltly and his beer tipped all over him and the floor and glass smashed. We are patrons not waitrons. Apart from that, I really rate this place and will visit again.
S. B.
Good friendly service and food. Could probably do with one or two more veggie options on the menu but that's the only gripe. We enjoyed everything about this river side restaurant and bar and are looking forward to returning very soon.

Has a pub ever been in a more beautiful location. Huge outside area with plenty of shaded areas for those who are not keen on strong sunlight. Friendly service, food is good with most meals around £12. I had grilled chicken salad. The chicken was coated with sumac which was tasty, juicy and was accompanied by a very tasty salad with shredded carrot and leaves seeds agave and orange pieces.
My son had Firecracker chicken with rice. The chicken was coated in an Asian style bbq sauce, again very tasty. As you can see by the photos its right by the river Medway ( Yalding)
There's parking at the back and on the nearby road. Yalding rail station is about 10 mins away and has an hourly service to/from Paddock Wood and to/from Maidstone West via the Medway Valley line.

Hands down the best burger I've ever had - the loaded fries were absolutely delicious! The waiters were very friendly and the food was excellent. Combined with beautiful nature, this restaurant located right on the river makes the perfect place to unwind and have a great time.
J. W.
Lovely service and dinner. The cherry bakewell cheesecake was out of this world. Friendly staff and great location.
See you next time!
M. D.
Nicely refurbished riverside pub with good range of ales and food. Plenty of outdoor seating some heated.
C. W.
Great food in a lovely setting. Just disappointed they don't do a Sunday roast in Spring / Summer. It's so good, we really missed it. The pie was REALLY good though
D. G.
Beautiful location sitting outside by the river and in the back ground an medieval bridge. Had a table booked elsewhere !! But the food arriving on the tables around us look very good.
K. M.
Popped into The Boathouse about 5pm and found the pub quite empty. Very friendly and efficient bar service. I had the swordfish and my husband had the butchers burger. Both meals were served hot, quickly and were very tasty. The prices were not bad either. Husband had a pint of lager shandy and I had a small glass of Italian red. The bill was £40. The layout inside was spacious with a light and airy feel and there's lots of seating outside which we have used on numerous occasions in the summer. Well worth a visit.

fish and chips 🍟 nice , chips seem home made and nice peas . onion rings nice , lovely setting massive change to the last time I came the whole pub has been extended and refurbed . alot of the parking is closed off and the old bridge is closed off don't no why . decent price aswell , friendly staff quick 👌 nice and warm inside . very clean toilets with disabled access for wide wheelchairs. Will be back again for something else the fish was nice but a little greasy . but was all home made . Will be back again .thank you.
A. B.
Such a lovely place to sit and have a meal, the staff were friendly and the food was brilliant, we sat inside but plenty of shade if you wanted to eat out, will definitely be going back.

Incredible! What a gem… my friend took me here to try somewhere new, I’m vegan, she’s not , and we both loved it!
Prices were reasonable … the loaded fries were insanely good and the chef did an AMAZINg job of veganising mine 🌊
Location was beautiful, and the staff were fab… Greg.. I think… and … another wonderful girl with champagne coloured hair who’s into criminology both made us feel very welcome and taken care of
GO HERE ITS INCREDIBLE
It rained massive hail stones on one of the hottest days of the year so that was also interesting 😂✋😬 we got SOAKED running trough the storm to the car 😂

Our first visit to here. A really lovely feel and the food was very good. 3 of us had pie, 1 fish and chips and a burger. All really well presented and delicious. Dessert was just as good.
Staff were helpful and efficient.
J. (.
Wonderful riverside pub with great terrace. Dog friendly too
C. B.
Lovely little place to eat. Beautiful views. Good food. Shame there was a few things off the menu but it was a busy ans hot day so to be expected. Nice ambience. Friendly staff. Would recommend and look forward to going back.
m. l.
Really lovely place, on the river so normally go in after boarding. A few tasty vegan options so that suits us very well. Staff are always friendly & do their best to make your experience better. Highly recommend
A. H.
Lovely spacious pub and restaurant with a laid back atmosphere. The new menu is great and there is never a rush, a perfect place for a long lunch with family and fronds. Good value for money.
J. M.
Been there a few times .
But this last time was for lunch as our friends like this area . We'll it was off season and it wasn't very busy , but this made it better in a way , we sat inside and the food came out quite quickly , yes it was superb and good portions . We had deserts as well and the service was excellent, I remembered the staff from the last time and they were very very busy and I admired how they dealt with their customers very well indeed, a very professional approach indeed .
Well done keep up the good work .
Thankyou for a great lunch

Turned up here with the bike club. It really was a great place. Lovely food and the staff were charming and served us with smiles on there faces. This is not a dull place it's a destination place. Thanks to the " TEAM". Chef Nev.

Lovely pub, attentive staff, delicious food. Pizza's were yummy and big enough to share. Be lovely to drink and dine there in the summer.
R. W.
Lovely clean bright place full of sunshine today overlooking the River at Yalding. Friendly staff and excellent food and beer.
Parking easy too.
C. J. M.
Spacious, interior. Pleasant welcome. On the banks of the River Medway over looking the bridge and weir. A huge outdoor seating area which will be fabulous on a warm sunny day. The menu is varied and the food very tasty.
M. L.
Brilliant location, right on the river in Yalding. Staff were very nice and the food was good and well priced. Perfect for a sunny day by the water
p. b.
Came down on opening day. Great food, service although a tad slow, understandable and vibrant and bubbly atmosphere. Only a 20 minute walk from home, I'll definitely be down again. Nestled upon the river the scenery is beautiful, tranquil and glorious in the summer sun.
C. “. C.
Lovely lunch sitting on the deck overlooking the river. The food was very quick to arrive and was fairly big portions. We had squid to start followed by sausage and mash and ham, egg and chips, both good quality and value. This place can get busy so I would recommend booking, this can be done on their website.
M. F.
Walked here from nettlestead along the river . A lovely Sunday dinner . Very tasty . Friendly staff . Nice clean toilets is always a good sign .
J. J.
Beautifully located and the beer was excellent. The food took ages, over an hour and a half. It was nice enough but very small portions compared to a year ago. My male staff member was very welcoming and smiley. The manageress was not when I asked a politely about the food. Promote that bearded man 🤣
A. M.
Celebrating son's A level results..staff Very attentive and welcoming staff and fussed over son.. Cleo.looked after us and was kind, cheerful and very attentitive. The manager is politely and his staff spoke highly of him. Social distancing regulations followed . Highly recommended it .
A. R.
It’s rare to visit a pub or restaurant since the pandemic and have such a great experience. Food was excellent, staff were friendly and attentive. Brilliant location with access to the river and a decent kids playground! Will bring the paddle board next time
A. W.
I'm so impressed by this place.
The menu has been really well thought through, not boring old pub grub, traditional dishes brought to life with care and intelligence whilst more exciting dishes have been allowed onto the menu to surprise and delight.
The food came out excellently presented and it was all delicious. Standards way higher than what you'd expect from a kitchen like this.
Front of house staff were also excellent. Accomodating, polite, friendly, helpful, they certainly showed us they cared about our experience from offering to find more cucumber in the kitchen when our toddler threw their own on the floor through to their great communication.
I have been increasingly disappointed by expensive and awful pub meals lately, this place has really amazed me. Great job boathouse team, look forward to seeing you again soon.
L. G.
First time to this pub since it reopened as the boathouse and it was a real treat. Bright and breezy decor for the main restaurant area, large deck and outdoor seating as well as a snug for casual bar dining. Good selection of local beers and spirits tasty generous food and super friendly staff. I will be back 😊

Boathouse Is A Nice Pub & Restaurant From Shepherd Neame, Located In A Great Location Next To The River.
Pizza Is The Main Thing & The Great 14 Inch Serving Is Enough To Satisfy Any Appetite... I Enjoyed The ‘Hot N Spicy’ Which Had Just The Right Amount Of Kick! Don’t Worry If You Can’t Finish Your Serving, As You Can Grab A Take Away Box To Finish Later!
Plenty Of Other Options To Try From Pub Grub Favourites Of Burgers, Cod & Chips & Bangers ‘N Mash...
We Ended With The American Deli Style Cheesecake Which Was A Nice Sweet Treat To Finish... You Can Also Enjoy Dessert Style Pizzas Including Sinful Chocolate Or Apple & Rhubarb Options... Which Look Awesome, But May Have Been A Bit Too Much Pizza For One Night!
Great Decor With Wooden Interior Giving An Intimate & Warm Character To This Pub By The River... With Doors Opening Out To A Great Riverside Terrace... Perfect For A Sunny Afternoon Al Fresco Drink & Dine.
A Nice Bar Area With Good Selection Of Drinks From Shepherd Neame Favourites Through To A Wealth Of Spirits & Wines... A Few Cocktail Options Also Available If That’s Your Tipple!
The Thatched Area To The Pub, Lends Some Character & History To The Alternate Refitted Style, Which All Compliments Very Well.
Great Friendly Team & Attentive Service, We Were Served By Sally Who Recommended Some Great Dishes & Kept The Drinks Flowing. Overall Great Ambience & A Lovely Relaxing Country, Riverside Vibe Which Made The Meal & Night Float Like A Boat!

We found this little gem of a place today beautiful table over looking the river.we enjoyed a couple of plates of lovely sandwiches salt beef and coronation chicken, sides of onion rings simple thing I no! But the best we've had in a long time super crispy but not greasy at all and just a side of chips which were very much enjoyed absolute gem of a place so pretty was worth the drive from Ashford ! The only - is the parking we was unsure if to drive through the barrier as wasn't sure if it was the correct entrance but being my husband is currently not able to walk far following a operation(he hasn't been out in weeks had a low mood so imagine how lovely it was to find this gem! ) we was greatful to have found a space although the disabled ones were taken there was only 2 spaces for disabled which we could see but we parked yay and it was fab a couple of cold Shandy's on a hot day and lovely food and great scenery. we will definitely being making the trip again !
C. A.
Went here last night, very nice food (Mussels) and nice new open space. Staff were friendly. Ate inside, it was probably around 25% capacity but it certainly deserves a full house, though I do wonder if there would be sufficient staff. Very nice touch how they incorporated the original pub, though may be that was due to listed status. I can imagine it being a great venue during the Summer (decking up to the river), but very pleasant and warm during the colder months. Will likely return in the future. Easier said than done, but if staffing levels reflect customer throughput, I can see it becoming very successful. One thing that confused me was the large parking area filled with cars that couldn't have been used by customers.
J. B.
Great venue with friendly staff. The food wasn’t high quality for an upmarket pub.
J. B.
lovely location overlooking the river good pub grub at lunch time. no issues with the food and the staff where great.

Meg was absolutely amazing. Our booking got lost somewhere in the system and she overheard the confusion and jumped straight in to sort it out for us, as she remembered us from our phone call. We were then seated immediately and reviewed incredible service from Meg throughout our lunch. She could not have been more accommodating and helpful. Food was also lovely, we had fish and chips, cheese burgers and linguines, as well as trying out all of the deserts. Cannot fault this restaurant and would highly recommend to anyone in the area. Dog friendly and lovely dog walking routes nearby.

The place it self beautiful to look at food however was touch and go ended up getting a full refund, food not labelled with ingredients it's not clear what ur getting on product s this is a big problem chips loaded came cold they then placed in microwave when we asked why there cold salted beef sandwich was nice but this is purely nice to look but not eating In or takeaway
A. N.
Nice location and a good selection of beers, I didn't eat here but the food looked fine. I would have rated it higher but card only discriminates against people who wisley mistrust banks and are careful with their money.
C. D.
Very ambient atmosphere. Friendly welcoming staff and lovely food. Restaurant is not all cramped together with tables. Recommended. Will 100% be returning.
K. B.
Beautiful pub really friendly staff such a beautiful view to sit and have a drink or food. The food was fantastic well worth a visit
B. B.
This place took a long time coming, the old pub had been closed for as long as I can remember and then a chance visit to teapot island and this place was open so we popped in for lunch, we've since introduced friends to the place and they love it too
A. D.
Food and location both very good, although menu is quite limited. Dessert menu in particular short of lighter options.
J. H.
Great food, lovely setting and beautiful views! Staff were really friendly. I was surprised at how busy it was for a Sunday!
L. H.
Visited today to an old favourite (Formally the Anchor) now changed hands with a new look and name The Boathouse. The overhaul looks fantastic, the place has been updated to be modern and trendy (large glass windows allowing lots of light and spacious seating areas) whilst stil being appropriate to its location (Architecture has clearly been designed to suit alongside the traditional pub building still visable and it's river surroundings) Very clean and absolutely lovely staff, food was very good and very reasonable price paticularly with portion sizes. Spotless toilets, and lots of lovely touches here and there throughout so it felt warm and welcoming. Very happy visit by all, including our 2 year old niece who loved watching the ducks on the river and felt secure with her as fencing is new and added mesh that allows the view to be unspoilt whilst creating a safe environment for small children/animals.
We are booked in for our family celebration next week and the booking process was straight forward, efficient and welcoming.Big thumbs up from us! :)
K.
Our first visit - such lovely decor inside and out. Unfortunately it was too cold to sit in the garden but we had a lovely view from a round table by the windows, perfect for our party of six.
We were very impressed with the quality of the Sunday lunch. Half a chicken or a mound of sliced roast beef with lovely veg accompaniments.
Would highly recommend visiting The Boathouse.
J. S.
Great location, lovely food and service. I'd like to return when the weather is better and I'm not soaking wet!
T. O.
Absolutely lovely meal and great pudding too 😊
Very friendly staff lovely views great place to eat 😊
K. W.
Lovely restaurant! Good service, good food!
I. S.
Nice environment inside and the outside is very relaxing. Food tasty and presented well. Staff pleasant.
A. P.
Wow what a transformation - what a difference definitely so much better - lovely restaurant beside the river, eat inside/ air conditioning or outside on the Veranda or right beside the river with some artificial grass - all new seating areas with parasols.
E. C.
As per most of the other reviews here: nice setting, lovely decor, but the service and food was underwhelming.
The price is average but the food isn't extravagant, I've certainly had a lot better for the same price.
The food took a long, long time to come out, and it wasn't busy inside either. We requested the peanut mayo was replaced with regular mayo due to a peanut allergy on our table, they failed to complete the simple request and the waiter that delivered the food was completely unaware of the type of mayo they provided.
Another server asked us if we wanted more drinks, and we put in another order. Five minutes later we saw the same server in his own clothes drinking his own pint at the bar, and we never got our order.
The servers were nice enough, but I wasn't too impressed with the experience.
D. C.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff
Had a great afternoon here last weekend.
Beautiful surroundings
Would highly recommend
C. M.
Excellent food at reasonable prices. I had the roast chicken, which turned out to be half a bird, cooked to perfection, for just £14.99!
The smart terrace was a sheltered suntrap, and we were able to enjoy a long lazy lunch.
The pub is in a peaceful location next to a lock, with small boats and narrowboats.
We'll definitely be going again!
J. E.
Great location, visited here when the war and peace show was on at Hop Farm so had a spitfire in hand and its name sake flying over head (it doesn’t get much more Kentish than that). Good meal and great service from the staff.
P. T.
Amazing food, stunning atmosphere and service with a smile. Very welcoming of our 1year old boy scooting around. Will definitely come again!
K. O. (.
Had their Sunday roast dinner on two occasions, both times the food was excellent..
K. F.
Lovely little menu, great interior & nice outlook on to the water & weir.
S. G.
Average food with terrible service and a nice ambience. Avoid at all costs.
The nightmare began the moment we arrived and realised we had to order at the bar - an unacceptable inconvenience for a pub pretending to be a gastro pub! Nevermind, I thought, I'll just have to get on with it. I ordered a starter and a main and even politely asked for the starter to be brought out ASAP.
Thirty eight minutes later, the starter showed up. A small portion of Calamari that was decently tasty but inexplicably expensive.
It was over an hour before the main arrived. I had ordered a margarita pizza with an additional topping of mushrooms. The best thing I can say about it is that the base was crispy. The sauce was overly sweet and smooth (it tasted very artificial and had an uncanny resemblence to Tesco Value Tomato Sauce). They had even put parmeasan on a pizza which was a horrible flavour and an experience I hope I never have to endure again.
To make matters worse, after I complained they offered no sympathy and just gave me my money back for the main course - a sign they receive complaints often.
A terrible lunchtime dining experience.
Try these other places instead:
- Halfway House
-Pizza Express
-Carluccios
Edit:
Having returned a second time for brunch, I found the food was much improved with reasonable prices for the brunches, however the service was still fairly slow. Coffee was nice and the smoked salmon was excellent although the poached egg was overcooked. (it was essentially hard boiled). I have changed my review to 3 starts from 1, but ensure to arrive with plently of time to allow for the slow service.
R. C. F.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Food delicious. Our favourite place to eat in Kent. 100%
S. W.
Very good Sunday roast, good variety of veg, roast potatoes and two meats and a vegetarian nut roast. All delicious
H. C.
We made a quick stop off here for a glass of wine on our bike ride, we sat outside in the garden which was clean and modern with a lovely view of the river. It's good to know that the outside is dog friendly too so we'll be back soon to try the food!
B. N.
We didn't book beforehand but would recommend in summer period as situated by the river. Has outside seating which will be lovely in the summer. Food lovely, quick service, good wine and beers on offer. Dogs allowed inside.
L. T.
We enjoyed our meal here but a few tweaks and it would have been better- we were seated right next to a table of eight people and we felt like we'd joined their party ! The restaurant wasn't that busy so we could have been seated elsewhere. Also, there were a lot of unavailable dishes, mains and desserts, which was a shame. On a plus side all the staff were lovely and very friendly and there was a relaxed feel overall.
L. P.
Good atmosphere! very busy! great band playing! sun shining! lovely view .
A. G.
A great new venu with spectacular river views. Good food and friendly service
D. R.
Excellent lunch and service along with nice river view.
S.
Bit disappointed they didn't have any ales on tap, and had to have bottled beer. Please note when I went on the 10.08.22 it was card payment only.
L. C.
Lovely venue. Staff were nice. We got free drinks due to a double order!
Next time we will bring a paddle board and the dog!
j. s.
Newly refurbished with modern menu serving freshly made pizza steaks salads burgers fish and sandwiches. Stunning riverside location. Serves great coffee too!
R. F.
Excellent pub with great views lovely outside space and even better food
J. “. S.
Great pizza.
Today I had their Sunday roast beef and it was amazing. The beef was lovely and rare, the roast potatoes crispy, the Yorkshire pudding delicious and beautifully cooked vegetables. 10/10🍾
P. S.
Great food, fantastic location ,happy staff, reasonable prices and good toilet facilities
T. P.
Friendly staff, very well cooked food even after lockdown
M. D.
Staff very efficient, draft Pale ale excellent. We did have to wait a long time for our food and they weren't busy. Thought the menu was limited and the one pasta dish was not available. The restoration has been carried out well and makes an excellent setting by the river. Hopefully things will improve.
L. P.
Really lovely place - imagine it would look spectacular in the summer (we visited on a winters evening). Great staff. Lovely food. We'll definitely go back
C.
Stopped by the Boathouse for a late lunch. It was understaffed so initial service was slow. However, we enjoyed the sausage and ham sandwiches and the chips were great. The menu was quite varied and overall the food looked very good and reasonably priced. Lager was perfectly chilled so ticks the box for a hot afternoon. We'll be back.
L. B.
Went here with my partner and our baby, the first time being out in a pub for over a year. We had a lovely time. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. All social distancing guidelines were in place. The staff were very welcoming and nice. Will be visiting here again soon!
V. H.
Booked on a recommendation, we are camping in the area, lovely location, slightly limited menu but found lots for us. My little one said the fish and chips were the best he'd ever had. Pizzas were lovely. Only gripe is the poke bowl my hubby got was cold which he wasn't expecting. Cocktails were lovely 👌 summer punch 👌
K. H.
I have visited here many times and the food is always very well cooked and is served piping hot. Staff are very friendly. Only problem is the menu choices, there seems to be more for pizza and burgers, and very limited with other proper main meals which was a disappointment when taking elderly people out. Apart from that, the restaurant has a beautiful setting next to the river and still highly recommend.
P.
A pleasant pub next to the river and lock. Servers decent beer and good food. I recommend the stacked chips! The service was very friendly and quick. Would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the occasional waft of rubbish/sewage drifting from somewhere.
J. H.
This restaurant is lovely! Very friendly staff and a great choice on the menu. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious, my father in-law had the sausage and mash meal and he thoroughly enjoyed it (I wish I'd choose the sausage and mash!) 3 big sized sausages on a bed of mash and fresh green veg to go with it. There is a one way system in place due to Covid19 and it's payment by card only.
I highly recommend this restaurant and I'll definitely be visiting again in the future.
L. S.
Nice food sitting next to the river. Lovely evening
T. G.
Went here for lunch... Very enjoyable meal outside with very good Covid-19 measures in place...
K. W.
Lovely pub right on the river! Can't beat the view whilst sipping on a cold beer
A. L.
The food is fantastic, it is all made to order so it is fresh and no ping food.
You may have to wait a little longer if its busy but it is worth it. Staff are really helpful and friendly.
R. F.
Good food. Polite attentive staff.
B. B.
Beautiful setting right next to the River Medway. Parking can be a bit problematic; we had to park on the main road about 300 yards and stroll back to the venue.
Went there at lunchtime (we'd booked in advance. Recommended) and while we could have elected to sit outside, we decided to eat indoors due to high temperatures.
The menu was what you might expect with a good range of food and drink at reasonable prices. Very good service with strict Covid protocols in place.
R. F.
Polite and helpful staff, good food. Great value.
S. A.
Hi Hope's of a good meal, we were disappointed... the menu is very limited on a single A4 one sided sheet. Bangers and mash half cold, come on please offer food that at least matches the loverly surroundings. Then train your staff to look after the dinners a very poor show.
J. R.
Great location but always a super long wait for food
A. M.
Beautiful location great food fantastic atmosphere shame it closed at 15:00 hrs to set up for the evening. One excellent point area's can be reserved for parties staff very welcoming
C. M.
We go to the boathouse everytime we visit Kent. Even through partial lockdowns. This time we arranged to meet friends. The service was extremely slow, this was not through shortstaffed as there was 3 serving outside on a fairly quiet Wednesday afternoon. The staff were pleasant but itvtook ages to order the drinks, then ages to get them. It is a shame as usually they are brilliant. Hopefully this was a one off. We will try again as it is a beautiful place, good food and they may just have been having a bad day. We did explain this to our friends and they will also try again.
C.
Great food, great service and awesome atmosphere.
L. D.
Beautiful place 😍 warm friendly atmosphere, and the Loaded fries are to dy for xx
L. P.
Good food and bonus points for being seasonal and local in some dishes. Great views over the river, lovely atmosphere and staff were very pleasant. Would definitely visit again for a beer next to the river or for a lovely meal!
R. B.
Great location, friendly staff and fab food.
D. G.
lovely restaurant, we was able to sit outside overlooking the beautiful River. Staff were friendly and well trained in being covid aware.
food was good. Will return (would give 5 stars but waitress forgot to put our order to the kitchen so food was slow, however she was very apologetic.)
L. L.
Pleasant midweek lunch, food good and presented welll. Very spacious surroundings so good for pushchairs etc. Tables a bit grubby so had to ask for it to be wiped off, also had to brush crumbs from previous diners. Would definitely go again and hope the cleaning has improved.
T. S.
Stunning views from the terrace, seating for over 200 people. Had a wonderful lunch, food was delicious, service great, staff friendly. Couldn't fault it at all and will definitely return! Covid restrictions all in.place too, very well organised.
N. C.
Was very disappointed as I had a birthday voucher to use, but when we got there the item I wanted wasn't on the menu anymore. When I asked the waitress did they not have the seafood lunguine she said the menu had changed but they will be going back to the menu soon. (That didn't help me now) also she said just to let you know we have run out if the steak. (The 2nd item i wanted). There wasn't much choice of menu so I went for the vegan burger which was ok but not great. I asked for add on loaded chips without cheese and she said that would be an extra £2. We also had to pay upfront for drinks & meal. We also felt rushed and that they were trying to get rid of us. If i had known that they didn't have my first choice of main (we saw it on the online menu) then we would have saved it for another time or tried somewhere else where we could use it with more choice. It was a shame as it is a nice place to visit but I think I would go back for a drink but not for a meal.
D. Y.
Great food and staff were amazing

Absolutely fabulous meal in nice laid out restaurant over looking the river with plenty off outdoor decking. Our meals were presented extremely well and cooked to our own requirements perfectly. Good food menu and good selection a drinks all reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and attentive. Great all round afternoon and will certainly be going back and recommending to friends
C. L.
I go here often with everyone from work, it's just a lovely place to end a busy day.
P. S.
Beautiful pub fantastic outside area and wonderful beer and staff

Good food great service & dogs are aloud outside

A nice drink with good food & service, overlooking the river Medway on a lovely sunny day

Lovely food and really friendly staff. All meals came out together. Lovely atmosphere, not rushed to eat and leave. Really spacious dinning area and large decked area with plenty tables right on the river. Well worth a visit.

Such a lovely settling, the restaurant is light and airy, super clean and very inviting. Waiting staff were friendly and food, (when it finally arrived) was mostly very good. Not a big menu but a good variety and prices are reasonable. The food I ate was delicious, well cooked and nicely presented. However, we had booked a table nice and early for a family dinner, 10 of us including 2 children, intending to leave at around the kid's bedtime but after an hour and a half, we had only been served starters (which some of our party didn't have). We enquired after the mains several times and waitress was very apologetic, however, other guests who had arrived after us were getting their meals and were on dessert or leaving, which was hard to fathom.
By the time the food arrived, 2 hours after ordering, the children were ravenous and we had all reached our limits of alcohol, so we didn't enjoy it as much as we might have. One person felt their meal had been rushed and was under cooked and another had a very dry, tough piece of chicken with her salad. To be fair, the under cooked meal was replaced very quickly (so quickly, in fact, that the recipient still felt it to be undercooked and didn't eat it!!) and we were given an apology for the wait with a discount, which was a nice gesture, but honestly, I would have much preferred the meals to have arrived earlier or if there was a problem, to have been offered something to at least keep the kids happy - they were well behaved but the little one was crying as he was so hungry! In hindsight we should have asked for the children's meals to be brought with the starters.
I'd go back but for dinner a deux or a very small group of people, but I doubt if my family would!

Lovely sitting outdoors on the river.. Good food. Nice ale..
S. T.
Lovely staff and great food topped off by a lovely venue right on the river! I had a lovely vegan burger followed by a vegan biscoff cheese cake both were delicious.
N. S.
Wasn't perfect. Didn't have their signature ale, got one of the mains wrong and had a nervy moment when all the toilet paper was out. But we had such a lovely time that u don't want to complain. Beautiful views and the food was good.
T. P.
Very cute and quaint pub, I love how it's right on the beautiful river. The outdoor seating area Is very pretty. The staff were so lovely and the food was beyond delicious. Will definitely be going back again soon.
C. J.
Ate outside in the garden overlooking the river. Lovely view and the food was really tasty. Good sized portions also.
R. R.
Nice place. Very attentive and helpful staff. We waited for the food bit long but the food was really nice. Staff very nice and friendly. I would go back again.
D. W.
Great food and cocktails/mocktails. With great surroundings to match.
L. S.
Loved the breakfast and the setting. lovely wooded decking with relaxing views, sunny position overlooking the river. Service was very good and staff really friendly. Highly recommend!
E. K.
Amazing food, service a little slow, but as we weren't in a rush we were not concerned as staff were very friendly.
J. O.
Not very comfortable.....it was better the way it used to be
C. H.
Had a lovely steak meal here today for my 3 rd wedding anniversary. Was fantastic food is wonderful cooked to perfection. Very polite staff as well. Couldn't fault it at all 🙂👍 thank you
S. W.
Lovely new venue.... service needs work.... food above average
J. R.
A lovely place to visit in the summer, large decking area over looking the river medway, dogs are welcome. The staff are very helpfully and friendly, the food is hot and well cooked. I do feel there could be more of a choice on the menu. I'd certainly recommend a visit.
E. W.
Visited last year before the refit, but came back this year and I love what's been done! The decor is classy, and in keeping with the local area and there are lots of little nooks you can sit in for a more private experience.
My only criticism is that this is the only place I've found that can ruin a prawn and Marie Rose sandwich. It has paprika in it, which I do like, but not in this context as it overrides all the other flavours.
Apart from that it was amazing! Planning on visiting to try the dinner menu!
c. p.
Location is fab . Staff friendly and food isn't bad . Dirty fries a must and scallops delicious . Great view of the river
D. W.
Simple scampi chips for me, fine! But my friends Caesar salad, had only y very small pieces of chicken and 2 tiny tomatoes!! Would have returned if had more time ..so wont be recommending that to anyone.
Venue is very pleasant, clean, service good.
D. H.
Very good food and service. Even though we had'nt booked we only had a short wait to get a seat outside near the river Medway.
Excellent venue.
L. F.
Lovely clean well presented bar with good food choices and a beautiful location by the riverfront
N. M.
Just went for a drink. Friendly staff and well priced beer.
R. P.
I found this pub's details in a very old address book, from 1970!!! Obviously I can't comment on the premises and business today, but it holds a special place in memory of those distant days.
In 1970, my friend and I were tasked with taking delivery of and delivering 2, brand new, Aston Martin DBS Vantages'...with the astonishing V8 engines. The final destination was a country pile near Sandwich in Kent.
We decided to treat our girlfriends to a special day out and this pub was our choice. Can you imagine the faces on the other patrons, as 2, identical twin cars, in midnight blue, drove along the riverside opposite, crossed the bridge and pulled up outside. And out stepped 2 beautiful girls and 2 guys aged 22 (me) and 20.
As soon as this insanity passes and the country returns to normality...my intention is to return to this beautiful, riverside location. Stay safe.
C. B.
Lovely location on the river Medway. Inside and outside eating areas. You order your food choices at the bar, the food is then brought to your table. The menu was limited on choice but the quality of the food was excellent!!! I would definitely recommend this pub and will be visiting again when next in the area.
B. R.
Very nice location and building. Staff good too. Bit disappointed with veggie brunch. For a new place I would have hoped more vegan friendly but alas not really. Not even non-dairy milk for coffee.
M. J. B.
Great food, drink and vibes.
W. S.
I love it: ive passed this place once or twice meaning to go in and this time my family and i popped in for a drink, and i wasnt disappointed. The drinks are reasonably priced, the staff are helpful and welcoming and the decor is great; from the wooden beamed nook to the left as you enter to the speed boat engines to the left of the bar. I love the location; anything waterside is a winner in my eyes and Ill be back soon for food and more drinks.
C. W.
Called in for a quick drink and ended up staying for dinner. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Service was great, we all chose pizzas which were delicious followed by puddings all of which we would very happily order again.
I. O.
It's a great location and the staff are nice, but the place is in a poor state of repair and a bit tacky. Could do with a refurb.
L. C.
Went on Sunday , no booking required.
Abour half the tables occupied.
Was told upon arrival that no hot food available , due to an electrical fault .
So basically only sandwiches
Sat down ordered a drink. Sandwich menu consisted of a ham sandwich or a cheese sandwich .
As a vegan I ended up with no lunch
G. W.
Beautiful food cosy atmosphere and good service.
J. L.
Air con indoors 👍 good place for a couple beers, right by the river, lovely patio/outdoor space. Food a bit lacking though. A couple of us had pizzas, which weren't the best. Also had quite a while to wait for them.
J. H.
Really wonderful place to visit. Really spacious and clean and staff were so friendly. Will definitely make it a regular place for a business meeting
R. R.
To hot to enjoy it . Well but good food
N. D.
Beautiful location by the river. Lovely views sitting outside and the interior is really nicely done. Food is pretty good, the menu includes all of the pub family favourites. Friendly and efficient service.
j. p.
Service was really nice. Views and location is above average. Food quality where this place really lets down. So, at the moment, its a nice place for a drink and quick, simple snack, NOT for tasty meal.
G. L.
Lovely place. Food was good. Friendly service and nice sitting by the river earing dinner.
L. A.
Fantastic place. Whether your a dog walker (YES DOGS WELCOME) or a cyclist; a drinker or a food lover this pub is for you.
Amazing food and atmosphere next to the river makes a perfect setting for any occasion and your dogs can enjoy it too!
H. H.
Lovely food and generous portion sizes, excellent front of house staff.
D. M.
Lots of outside seating next to the river. Nice inside too. Was bank holiday but service still quick. Tables cleared regularly - my pet hate is tables left piled up with glasses, plates etc. Teapot island next door and lovely riverside walk.
J. D. D.
Met friends for lunch. Couldnt fault the service and the choice of food brilliant. My butternut curry was yummie. Really cool and modern feel.we all just loved it and will go back many times with our family. Keep it up good chef and staff.
S. W.
Can't comment really as the day we booked for fiancés birthday meal, the kitchen had had a fire and all that was on offer was fish and chips or burger and chips. However, we will return as the location, views and new building is beautiful. Just wished we'd been emailed to say no food!
S. B.
Lovely friendly place with great food and friendly staff.
They are also dealing with the covid restrictions very well.
The outside area next to the river is very nice and in the summer is just perfect
L. C.
This restaraunt has good food that tastes nice but there is no way that I can afford afford to pay £10 per head for sausage and mash or £12+ for fish and chips or £8 for what looks like a kids portion that was very nice but my local chippy is just as nice but for what we paid for 2 meals and a tea and coffee was nearly £30 it was far too expensive so will not be going back just cannot afford it I really don't understand why these places feel they have to charge so much to be successful when if the prices came down more people could go more often that is why the 3 stars
.
D. J.
Got new management great staff food is fantastic. beautiful setting
s. B.
i preferred it before the extensive refurb but i can see why they did it to make it more of a restaurant atmosphere. nice outside area against the river.
pizza was very nice. not happy with the charge of an extra 10p per half of san miguel rather than it being half price to a pint.
L. H.
Very pleasant, helpful staff. Good social distancing. However, I found the menu difficult for me. Only one salad that fitted reasonably 'healthy' meal.
A. P.
Nice location beside the river, food was okay, but parking is limited
A. M.
The asparagus was over cooked with the chard grilled salmon and the salmon wasnt chard grilled. 3 people had that dish and all were the same. The other 4 choices at our table were good. Would return but change the food choice. No gluten free choices so one in our party had to be very careful about meal choice.
S. R.
The food was lovely, but it would be helpful to have a drinks menu, for choice and price comparisons.
K. N.
Me,my Daughter,my Grandaughter and my Son-in-Law had a great afternoon here. The food was lovely and the Waitress was very helpful and polite. We failed to obtain her name unfortunately but she really was very friendly and looked after us wonderfully. All in all an enjoyable few hours in nice clean, picturesque and welcoming establishment.
Regards Ken Northcott.
j. s.
The new refurbishment is lovely and the food was good. When we visited last we also experienced great service. The air con was on full blast and was a bit cold and draughty but the waitress turned it down straightaway. Great views of the canal.
S. M.
A nice beer garden alongside the river. I enjoyed ham, egg and chips and my partner had a fish finger sandwich, both washed down with a drink.
M. R.
Very COVID safe, excellent food and Eat Out to Help Out.
Had the Caesar Chicken burger, delicious and very nice chips. Warm chocolate brownie for dessert, a very enjoyable meal in s great location.
S. A.
Amazing location fast service & great food! Had lunch here after a walk around the local area. Highly recommended!!
A. H.
Decent food in a nice setting. Lots of places to sit outside next to the river. Would definitely visit again.
T. R.
Stopped by for lunch. I highly recommend the calamari and amazing fish finger sandwiches.
C. L.
lovely atmosphere and good food, effecient and quick service, good vegan options, absolute recommend for a meal out with friends and family.
S. B.
Great food and drink, served by excellent team. Pizza and burgers very good
D. C.
Waterside country pubs are abundant at this end of England. We are spoilt here thanks to the excellent water ways.
The boathouse is modern, a Shepherd Neame pub that has extended itself to cater for the masses. With the huge outdoor seating area and its bright and airy indoor seating arrangement it will easily accommodate over 100 people.
It is very comfortable, staff are attentive and food options are great. The only problem, it has lost its original unpresuming pub charm and gained the chain retailer “cookie cutter” feel. The food, although well presented, lacked attention to detail, churned out to meet the needs of the consumer (another downside of the pub chain).
The boathouse is an excellent venue for social occasions and offers a beautiful views of the rural landscape. Just don’t expect country side rustic.
p. c.
Lovely place to stop at, nice location and views
A. C.
Hi we have a meal at the boathouse weekend with our friends we all disabled we were all made very welcome staff amazing disabled toilet s access parking were great and all the food and drinks we had were really really nice really nice place to eat
W. M.
Beautiful setting.. modern yet quirky restaurant staff efficient and friendly.. food delicious.. Will definitely return
K. J.
Nice scenery, rather limited menu if you have any diet restrictions. Great service , friendly staff.
N. B.
Lovely location, we chose to sit outside overlooking the river on the decking area.
Attentive service with a smile from staff, mainly Stanislaus.
Despite restricted menu, we four plus a small person found a good choice of food to suit us.
Beer was good as well!
You have to ignore road closed sign coming from Yalding end, car park short way along from sign. No access from Wateringbury end. Check with staff B4.
J. W.
Remember when it was the Anchor Pub in the 80's. This is much better & the food was great!
D. W.
Excellent service, nice scenery at the side of the river. Good choice of drinks and pizza was lovely, highly recommended
K. B.
We visited after a day's paddling on the Medway. Friendly staff, clean and spacious inside, lovely veranda overlooking the river. An ideal spot for some post paddling refreshment and debriefing.
r. c. e.
Food verry tasty and staff verry kind.
J. C.
We had been on tea pot island for the afternoon and fancied a drink and a snack. The bar staff were very friendly, our food we ordered came out in good time. Over all we were very pleased with our visit.
l. b.
Stunning pub, friendly and polite staff. Amazing food, and very good value for money. Would highly recommend. Definitely will he returning.
G. J.
Had a super lunch. Food was well presented and very tasty. Staff friendly and efficient. Service fast. Will definitely go again.

Beautiful setting on a sunny day. Friendly staff, table service was pretty slow when we were there - to the point where we just bought double rounds.
K. C.
Gorgeous location, delicious burgers, friendly staff. It was my little boy's birthday when we visited and everyone made him feel very special. We will be back! Thank you :-)
R. n.
superb setting, excellent food ,staff attentive and friendly, will be back
A. B.
Went here last week and the food we had was lovely. Beautiful location and the staff are coping well with not having a proper kitchen due to the terrible fire that seriously injured the chef. Would definitely go there again.
C. T.
Very nicely remodeled. Same lovely location. Friendly staff. I haven't tried the food yet (which is why I can only give 4 stars for now...), but it looked nice :)
A. W.
Great riverside pub. Excellent food choices, great service and perfect for kayakers, paddleboarders or walkers. River landing steps too.
S. F.
Very nice and cosy ,recommended to everyone who likes chilling and a good meal 😋
R. W.
Two lovely steaks well cooked medium rare, food nice, tasty, and hot, great service and usual shame they had to close, but we will be back as soon as they reopen after lock down, wish them well and see you soon 😎🌹
S. M.
Not bad food, not much variety
P. &. E. H.
great venue, great service great staff
D. P.
Not so good service this time as arrived between breakfast and lunch service. Got left with no interest from staff to take my order for 30 mins. Reluctant to go back again.
D.
Great food and service. 👍
M. M.
Fantastic food & staff very friendly. loved the atmosphere. Can,t wait to visit again

Such a friendly atmosphere. The food is really nice too and not overpriced, great service and lovely views over the river.
G. M.
Service with a smile and extremely quick delivery to our table of drinks and food, not to be faulted at all.
Highly recommended.
M. W.
A birthday meal with family. Staff were helpful friendly and organised. Clear and apologetic where necessary about one or two unavailabilities. We had a great evening and we will be back
R. B.
Quite a surprise to see this transformation. Very nice although a big contrast to the original.
L. K.
Gorgeous view and setting, food and staff were lovely. Definitely go again x
S. W.
Five stars for the location, but nil for food as arrived about 1330 to be told that they were not accepting walk-ins any more.
L. S.
Slightly overpriced (especially for drinks), modern, Shepard Neame pub with pleasant outdoor seating by a weir. Food is OK, more reasonable than the drink but ultimately disappointing e.g. slightly undercooked chips, pizza bases too thick, burger overcooked. New venue, so finding it's feet, I expect it to find it's niche and some more quality as time moves on.
J. H.
Amazing. That's is truly amazing.
P. M.
Excellent food and prices. The fully loaded bowl of chips a meal on its own. Very good service and great venue.
J. L.
Magical.. especially on a warm summer's night!
T. W.
Absolutely stunning place for food with great view. Definately recommended
J. P.
Really nice setting, foods fairly standard pub fare - in no way bad, but nothing to write home about. On a sunny day it's beautiful.
T. D.
lovely setting, food very average.
service bit slow but very friendly.
S. C.
Idyllic setting💕 always have a lovely time here. Food is always of high standard, staff are very friendly. Parking can be difficult on busy days.

K. M.
Nice pub recently extended. Good varied menu, selection of beers, large outside seating area by the river, opposite is teapot island.
T. H.
Great food and nice location
S. V.
Great food. Could do with wider selection of beers - e.g. a draft stout or porter. Had to go for a bottle to get something decent.
D. “.

c. w.
First visit since refurbished. Well worth the wait, good food at a reasonable price. Family and dog friendly in a beautiful location.
A. W.
Formula pub. The staff trying hard to stick to what they're trying to do. The interior is fake full stop the location is quite good. Food ok but not brilliant and 20 years ago it would have served watneys red barrel
G. P.
Great location and a nice venue. Friendly staff but a limited selection of ales unfortunately. Probably a little nicer in the summer but the woodburners are welcoming.
A. D.
The food and service were both reay good but the whole place was a bit functional and lacked cosiness and charm.
C. D.
Lovely food and lovely stuff very helpful really enjoyed it all
C. B.
Food was fresh, service was nice. Jo is a great waitress.
K. M.
Knew it as The Anchor many years ago, was apprehensive about revisiting as it's been revamped and renamed but was very pleasantly surprised. They've kept the old part and have built a lovely new addition. Will return soon.
G. S.
Very helpful staff. Dog friendly. Pizza tasted great but I consider it expensive as it was short on toppings. So disappointed.
C. B.
Nice modern pub with lots of seating outside next to river staff attentive food is of decent standard be warned use lots of insect repellent or the only things enjoying dinner will be the mozzies
K. B.
Very good spacing of tables. I had the best steak I've had in a while. Cooked perfectly and very tasty.
M. M.
After a great day of kayaking on the Medway, the Boathouse was a wonderful refuelling stop. The "loaded chips" were delicious. 😋
N. C.
Nice spot on the river, the staff were OK, but not very attentive. Food was good and when we went 2:00 pm it came out very quickly.
R. K.
The food here is great, it’s a shame other pubs can’t make food to this standard. Great menu, delicious pizza and dog friendly to the right.
J. H. J.

Loved it here, nice outside space to sit and enjoy food and drinks by the river
P. H.
Nice pub,but watch the parking l,if you are not careful you could end up with a £100.00 fine, you need to get a receipt for purchase of drinks or food than you can prove that you where there when you get the fine, otherwise nice place for drink and eat
S. R.
New pub on the space left by an old one. Great location, good food and beer at a reasonable price. The staff were good too.

T. T.
Nice location and reasonably priced, tasty food. Rectified a minor problem quickly with a smile, would visit again.

Bit rural and out of the way. Nice pub, but every table was completely booked so couldn't sit down anywhere for a pint, had to go outside
F. R.
Good is absolutely delicious, well cooked and very helpful staff, will definitely go there again
K.
Is it too much to as that the staff acknowledge you when you're the only customers at the bar? Why do they have to finish fiddling with glasses etc. before they say hello?
J. W.
Menu is quite small but it makes up for it in quality
Very nice place to have dinner
J. B.
Great food, lovely location pleasant and helpful staff, quick service even when busy, love this place!😊
