Reviews of The Dirty Habit
T. G.
Great historic pub on the North Downs way with really good food. They source most of the food locally and have good variety on the menu. The scallops starter was really good and the fillet steak was excellent. They also have a pizza oven and the sourdough pizzas coming out looked very good. Very friendly staff. They also have outdoor tables. We will be coming back!

Visited with some friends for the Sunday roast. Really nice food however on the pricey end. Service was fast and efficient. Would recommend this restaurant.
We all ordered the beef roast for mains. Meat was tender and vegetables were cooked well and not over cooked.
For dessert I had the amaretto crème brûlée which was exceptional. My friend had the chocolate tart which was tasty and not sickly.
Price was roughly £50 a pair so not the cheapest meal around. More of a one-off venue.

Needed a little break from the City, quick lunch at the pub. For sure make a booking 1st! Glad we did, as it got really full. Parking also quite a challenge, ended up parking at the church down the road. Food was EXCELLENT, and the service and ambience great. Can recommend the chef specials. We had the lamb and the seabass.

Firstly the food was incredible. The place is beautiful. Staff were very friendly. Reasonably priced. Food comes quick to the table. For all that - 5 stars.
Few things that I did pick up on. The vegan/vegetarian menu is confusing - it’s hard to tell what is vegan and what is vegetarian (I should have asked, but I didn’t).
One of our party had an item missing from their plate, not the end of the world.
The staff were a little slow at coming to the table and I had to ask for drinks rather than being offered.
Would 100% go back though. Going to try one of their other restaurants next week.

Amazing family Sunday lunch. Qaulity ingredients and hearty portions. Service was attentive and welcoming. Will definitely return again.

You made our day! Friendly staff found us a table even though it was busy and we didn’t have a booking. The service was quick and all the staff we spoke to were absolutely lovely. The food was really good, some of best pub dishes we’ve had. You can tell they care about the youngest guests too: the kids menu is seriously good food and beautifully presented, which is rare (the photos show what our toddler had, yummy!). Great deserts and very good coffee too at the end. Thank you for a lovely meal, the Dirty Habit team :)

It was a last minute decision to visit this pub, although we had been there before, but sometime ago. We was welcomed warmly, shown to a table and given the menu. There was an excellent choice of dishes, from the light to the sumptuous steak meals.
My wife and myself both opted for the Duck Margret with potato gratin, with asparagus and a blackberry and black currant jus. Which was a chef's special
OMG, This was, and my wife agreed, was absolutely one of the best plates of food we had ever eaten!! Yes, it was that good!!, Dessert was New York cheesecake for me apple and rhubarb crumble with rhubarb clotted cream ice cream, for my wife. Good selection of coffee to finish. Great old pub lovely garden, where we sat, lovely, friendly and polite staff, we will definitely be going back, Highly recommended
R. M.
Really good great quality food, great service too, I had a ribeye and it was cooked really well, so well in fact we came again the next day and i ordered a lamb shank. Would recommend and come again
V. H.
Nice pub with lovely decor. Vegan options Inc Sunday "beef" plant based roast. Think it came with regular Yorkshire puddings though.

Went to the dirty habit for a birthday lunch. We had the best meals we had in a long time. Fiona served us. Anything we asked for arrived promptly and nothing was too much trouble. I had the lamb it was cooked superbly. My husband had a burger super tasty. Worth every penny.
P. H.
Lovely old pub with local beers and local produce in the restaurant. Great 2 for 1 offer on excellent pizzas.
C. R.
Really tasty food and lots of it! Nice selection on the menu. Really friendly staff and dogs were welcomed. Car park was a squeeze but worth it!! Nice eating areas inside and out too
L. K.
It's the pub with the best food I've ever been to. Very friendly staff and reasonable price. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was the first pub restaurant I visited when I moved to England back in 1995. It has had several changes of ownership/management over the years since and not all were successful IMHO. The Elite Pub Group however have got their act 100% on song. What a Chef - gotta keep him/her for sure. My Lamb and my Wife's Sea Bream were outstanding to say the least; plus top service from all staff members made our lunch at the beginning of August unforgettable, and we are telling all our family and friends about the changes at every opportunity.
D. O.
Had a 70th birthday early dinner here very recently and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Friendly and attentive service and the staff went out of their way to make our special evening.
Delicious food with lots of non meat options too, lovely NZ Sauvignon Blanc and cask ale.
Thank you so much.
P. R.
Had a meal on a week day. Food was pretty good. My wife and sister in law had Hake. I had a steak that was vey well cooked, but the chips were disappointing. They looked good but very dry. My peppercorn sauce, lacked peppercorns. The ladies had wine and I had a light ale, both not bad. The only other ting I would say perhaps a tad on the pricey side.
E. H.
Multiple vegan options, food was good. Would be nice to see a few more 'complicated' vegan meals to match the level of the meat dishes served. Lots of choice, however, and a good evening out - would recommend.
R. G. K.
Another average, expensive restaurant so common in the UK. This place was very busy for a Monday, there's not enough parking either which must annoy the neighbours. This wasn't my choice as we were with friends, but I am hard pressed to find anywhere decent around here.
D. C.
Another example of Kentish pub cuisine mastery. The 14th century pub has more character than a Disney movie. It is inviting and difficult to leave the comfort of the open fires.
The service is salt of the earth and with a warmth to match. Service was quick and perceptive.
The Dirty Habit attracts a middle class, middle aged crowd. It does fill up surprisingly quickly come 7pm. Please reserve a table to avoid disappointment.
Food was astonishing, all I can say is whatever you choose you are going to enjoy. Quality, choice, portion size and presentation were spot on. The “door stop” basket of bread brought a smile to my face. It falls in line with this country pub setting.
One of my best pub restaurant experiences. Thank you.
K. M.
A few of us had a Sunday roast here yesterday and it was unanimously one of the best roasts we've had in the UK. Especially given they had gluten free gravy for it! Absolutely delicious and the gluten free chocolate brownie and eton mess were just as good. We will definitely make the trip back at some point!
J. B.
Great Pub find. Stopped here for lunch, food is impressive and very tasty with a well thought out menu. Staff are great, friendly, knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble. The bar is feels like warm and welcoming, winter evenings must be really cozy but hey it’s summer at the moment and the garden is beautiful the sun is shining and the drink is flowing. Highly recommend. Closer than you think. And for all you tech-heads great Wi-Fi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A. O.
Amazing. I went for the whole grilled lobster and the Mrs went for the prawn linguini. Exceeded our expectations! Lovely atmosphere and staff are so friendly and helpful. Will be back
S. N.
Highly recommend! Service was timely and friendly. Food was well beyond expected pub quality ❤️
G. H.
I absolutely loved this place.. The food was great and better than any pub food I have ever eaten.. The staff were very friendly and my family and I had a great evening..
J. R.
What a hidden gem this is. We found this pub/restaurant when we went off the beaten track. Would highly recommend anyone to stop and take time out for a drink and food. Fantastic atmosphere and superb food. Staff were brilliant too.
C. K.
Great place to have lunch and a few drinks while we were cycling around Maidstone up/down Pilgrims Way. Had a the chance to taste one of the new pizzas as recommended by one of the staff members, 'The Inn on Fire' that is a must for anyone who loves their spice/heat.
R. H.
Very good roast dinner and desert, a touch on the pricy side but worth it. Can literally taste the difference in the carrots.
J. S.
Stopped off here by chance had a lovely meal with the family. Good friendly service fantastic pizza's and excellent fish and chips
S. R.
Lovely food, fab surroundings and great service. What more do you want from a country pub 😁
S. B.
Must have been having an off day yesterday as food wasnt great for us, despite the good reviews on here. Burger had all stringy sinew in it and chips were quadruple cooked and way too hard. Roast dinner was ok, but portion too small and Yorkshire pudding was over done. Thought was too over priced for what we had, and 12% service charge was cheeky. Especially as they charged us for a drink we hadnt had. Good job we checked. Really disappointed and wont return.
L. K.
Have had the pleasure of the "Dirty Habit" some 4 times now & have to say that each & every time its been brilliant, whether as a Company Xmas event or just a Family greetings event its been superb, Great selection of Ales etc, beautifully cooked & served meals. Faultless service that go out of their way too please but not too attentive as to feel Basilly, :)
I would happily return anytime & highly recommend. Oh!! nearly forget to mention that the building itself is the icing on the cake as its so ancient as to be steeped in anyones memory as that haunted Pub.
Anyway, if you give it a try I'll almost guarantee that not leave unhappy.
Cheers.
K. S.
Very good food and attentive service. Drinks unnecessarily expensive for what you get, especially cocktails. Nice atmosphere though.
T. P.
Scrumptious food! Wide range of drinks. I was particularly impressed with their huge selection of gins.
Very nice outdoor seating area, and inside is quaint and cosy. Attentive helpful staff.
K.
Great choice of drinks, excellent food freshly prepared and cooked with quality produce, friendly service. Dog friendly. Will definitely call again 🙂
L. M.
Had a lovely meal at the dirty habit this evening.
Friendly attentive staff. Beautiful building. Our waitress Fiona was really nice.
M. G.
Great Sunday lunch. Enjoyed the mix roast and sticky toffee pudding. Will be back soon. Good service from Angie.
A. S.
Great place! Amazing food ! Very friendly staff - our waiter Oscar was absolutely the best!
Will definitely come back!
J. V.
Great food and ambience! Loved that we stopped by on the way home to london, our baby girl was treated very well, got a “fun pack” which is still in use even weeks later. Not many placed do that, very appreciated! Lovely location😍 has descent car park and outside seating, be careful driving trough that narrow road though to get there.
N. A.
Recently moved to Kent and noticed this beautiful quaint pub on my way to work. Although the staff were nice and we enjoyed the delicious sea food platter. My experience was a little dampened when we were initially seated in the corner of the pub next to the toilet. However we moved to the beer garden and had a great time
M. E.
Excellent food, loads of vegan oprions along with great selection for the carnivore on your life. Excellent range of in and outdoor seating, dog friendly and quick and pleasant service. Great walks nearby too. Looking forward to returning. UPDATE Even better on round 2, highly recommend
S. P.
So saddened to hear what happened last night, can’t wait to be returning upon reopening. Best of luck in recreating the jolly atmosphere of the pub - I hope the low beam is still in place!
S. R.
Lovely staff, service and ambience, but I made the wrong food choice - the vegan "fish" and chips. Banana blossom in batter: definitely not recommended.
K. H.
Good food, good surroundings, friendly staff. Could do with adding sandwiches and light bites to the menu but that's just my preference.
D. L.
This cosy pub lives up to it's reputation for good food and a friendly welcome.
The tandoori chicken skewers were delicious and baked camembert made for a rich starter.
Service was prompt and friendly throughout, we'll definitely be back again soon.
Top tip: the car park can struggle with the number of people trying to visit so allow 5-10 minutes extra to your travel time in case you have to find somewhere nearby to park.
J. G.
Great atmosphere, lovely food and good vegan choices. Vegan New York cheesecake is amazing
R. G.
Lovely atmosphere. Starters of Chicken Wings very poor but the main course of Lamb Rack was good.
K. W.
Came for a birthday lunch and left fully satisifed! Food was tasty and the service great! Definitely recommend 👌🏻
t. s.
Thanks for the wonderful service, from waiting staff and bar staff. The food was lovely, not the best we've had but would certainly come back for another visit. Menu is a little complex, great selection, and good for kids. Personally we don't like the added 12.5% service charge, how do we know that it is shared to all the staff members....plus some people don't read the whole menu so aren't aware it's put on the bill.
R. M.
Beautiful pub with attentive and friendly staff, the service we received was faultless. The food was incredible! Some of the best sweet potato fries I've had (thanks Lucy for persuading us to order them, we were very full but have no regrets!) and perfectly cooked sea bass. Highly recommend.
A. D.
We had a fabulous lunch after a lovely walk in the local area.
The food was excellent and everyone in our group of nine only had positive comments to make about their dishes.
We were particularly impressed by the spectacular way the chicken kebab was presented, a real talking point.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, which just topped it off.
Well done, we look forward to a return visit.
C. O.
Nice decor, vibe and friendly staff.
Quite limited and not great beer selection. The nut roast Inc veg was quite bland and was more warm than hot.
Good that they allow dogs but I think I'll be on the look out for alternative dog friendly places.
L. E.
One of my favourite places!! My partner and I visit with our dog, they're aloud inside as well as the ideally laid out garden area and snug. Food is amazing, it's inventive and seasonal, the special nights are great value for money especially the lobster night!! 😋. Good choice of drinks but quite expensive I feel but I guess it's a comprise for being in such a lovely building.
K. C.
Very charming pub. Decor is lovely. The food is fantastic.
The scallops are top quality although small portion. That said, I’d rather have less of a good thing than more of a bad thing.
The Romney Marsh lamb was cooked to perfection and the jus was very tasty.
The Musket bitter was a bit warm for my liking but still nice.
Sean, the General Manager, was a delight as our waiter. You can tell he’s passionate about the pub and his job. He did a great job giving his recommendations.
Will definitely be returning!
S. R.
Gloriously quaint and characterful pub with excellent selection of tasty food, good VG and V options.
j.
Great food, we had two calsones and two pizzas in the Monday deal, also had the cocktail deal for £6 each.
Only downsides were the cocktails were mainly ice, and the service charge added to the bill, if we want to tip, we will tip, it's not compulsory so shouldn't be added to the bill, it's annoying having to ask for it to be removed.
A. A.
Very traditional British pub in the old house with popular English dishes as well as pizzas
m. n.
As a stopping point for anyone walking the pilgrims way - you cannot do better than to stop here. Food is great, staff are super friendly and even during the busiest of trade maintained a smile whilst serving. Seriously would recommend.
A. B.
Long overdue I reviewed this place.
Having been here plenty over the last year or so, I cannot fault the service, food and location…
The staff are second to none, from management down. It’s impressive.
I’ll be back a fair bit for sure…
R. F.
A beautiful venue in a historic little village.
The place is beautiful, charming and has an instant homely feel.
The staff are very polite and attentive.
Plates, silverware and glasses were clean without water stains.
This place was and is a quality establishment.
Food was brilliant hearty with great attention to presentation and taste.
This is how to get repeat customers
I wish The dirty habit continued success
I will be returning!
K. F.
Favourite place to come in chesterfield ❤️ love the cocktails and the staff are lovely! Highly recommend
G. B.
A delightful gastro pub. They went out of their way to accommodate our requirements. Whilst very busy the service was extremely efficient. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
L. E.
Took my dad here for father's day was absolutely amazing, atmosphere was lovely staff were lovely, fast service and the food was delicious. Wish I could give 6/5 stars but its not an option 😄 definitely recommend.
D. A.
Lovely place. Fantastic service. Varied menu. Good presentation.Tasty food, Nice background music. Lovely atmosphere
A. H.
Lovely little quaint English pub. Absolutely stunning exterior, even better interior and the food is to die for. Excellent draught offering from Kent and beyond!
S. J.
Lovely food and the best cocktails, not stingy sizes either! You get plenty for your money and will be back in the very near future!
C. B.
Friendly service without feeling rushed. Warm welcome to this cosy pub on a damp, chilly evening. Excellent menu where the ingrediants are sourced locally as far as possible.
The chef produced beautifully cooked plates of food with acceptable gaps between starters and mains.
Would come again, interesting venue in the summer perhaps.
Car parking spaces a bit tight but in fairness we do have a large car, Just be aware and patient!
e. t. (.
Really nice food and good presentation. The service is good. We had a delightful lunch there.
S. A.
Excellent food and excellent service to match. Definitely worth going back for another visit.
J. S.
One of the best meals I have had in a long time. Friendly service, nice ambience, great food
A. K.
Our family favourite. Friendly staff, so helpful when it comes to our allergies and intolerances too. Made our daughters 12th birthday even more special by surprising her (and us!)with a beautifully decorated brownie with a candle in it. These little thoughful things go an awful long way. 😊 highly recommend the freshly cooked pizzas!
S. T.
Went here for a Sunday roast with family. It was brilliant. Log fire on a cold day, great food, great service. Very nice.
V. C.
Love going here. The menu is diverse with lots of choice, especially for dietary requirements. Setting is lovely. Service can be a little slow but I think it’s because they are usually so busy. Wait staff are always lovely. A little more expensive than I’d like but you get what you pay for - the food is exceptional.
C. B.
It was fantastic. Absolutely excellent meal, friendly staff, good atmosphere, good prices and even had gins on a special offer 😍
E. B.
Very friendly staff and the pizza was some of the best I've had. It was bigger than I expected as well!
H. W.
Lovely pub. Great food, good service. Really enjoyed the turkey dinner and the meal as a daily was delicious. My daughter even asked if we could go back again the next day.
P. C.
Lovely meal. Attentive staff. Good menu choice. Only 4 stars, cos disappointed children were in bar being rather noisy. But not venue or staff fault. But just put us oldies off a little.
Y. P.
Lovely little village pub with a great little outdoor terrace
Staff very polite and a pleasure
Attended Wednesday afternoon
Can't comment on the food but the smell was amazing will definitely return to eat and 😊
A. F.
I came for dinner with my family here a few weeks ago. The service and atmosphere was wonderful, couldn't fault it. The dinner itself was very average all around, not an great gastropub as described. I will say, any bread or pizza from the pizza oven was fanastic.
The grain salad wasn't 'cooking', it was a bunch of individual ingredients on a plate, not even well presented. The burger and chips was as standard as it gets, steak and chips.. Meh. The crumble had a few sprinkles of crumble and mainly fruit, not endulgent in the slightest. Sticky toffee pudding was not as expected, very disappointing.
I would go back, but only for the pizza and nothing more.
P. H.
Pleasant, dog friendly, wide menu with vegetarian and vegan options. Plenty of quirky seating and an outside area/patio with a pizza oven.
T. W.
We have eaten here twice now and we can’t fault it.
The staff are friendly and not pushy. The food is really good quality and delicious.
It has a very cosy interior and a free car park.
We had a great meal with friends and would highly recommend it.
D. D.
THE WORLDS BEST GAME PIE!... always have it and always will haha. The setting is lovely, the rest of the menu is really nice and always good service.
J. N.
We popped in today at lunchtime for a drink and a bowl of soup. Firstly from the instant you step inside you can't help but be impressed by the character, styling, furniture and ambience. Several roaring fires added to the warm cosy feel of the pub. We both had soup which came piping hot with a generous chunk of bread. We thoroughly enjoyed lunch. The only thing stopping me giving a 5 rating is value for money, a little pricey. We will be back
F. *.
Really like the menu here, so many choices. Lovely squid, the burrata salad was great, fish and chips was tasty. Nice glass of chilled rose. Very friendly staff. Lovely 13th Century panelled pub with garden. Has a water tap for walkers to fill their bottles and a sheltered seat which is FANTASTIC! Not seen it anywhere else.
E. V.
This pub has a lovely setting and the staff are friendly. The quality of the food doesn't really reflect the price you pay for it, in fact the Charcuterie board gave me a good laugh, as it was essentially some pickles, onions, salami and a giant slab of bread. All in all it was basically fine, but I think you're paying for the setting more than the food.
R. H.
Portion size was good and food was tasty. Let down by inattentive & slow service unfortunately.
S. W.
Really delicious food. I had the chicken and ham pie and it was perfect! The only thing that would make it better in my estimation is a few craftier tap beer options, but that's just personal preference. Staff were friendly and the service was great.
R. M.
Absolutely beautiful country pub in quiet village. Lots of history and exposed beams, a really comfortable cosy place to enjoy. Dishes were perfectly seasoned, and tasty, and they have their own pizza oven! Would highly recommend to all
R. T.
We returned tonight for what was a delicious meal.I must say the food was cooked to perfection ,the service combined with the ambience made for a very enjoyable evening. Our thanks to all,we shall be back soon!
W.
Great service and lovely food. Had an early evening New Year's dinner with the family, and it was brilliant. Highly recommend for all types of meal out.
P. C.
Lovely food lovely staff. Def use this pub again
M. W.
We enjoyed our meal, nice staff, and we will be back😊
M.
Had great beer with pizza and chips. V tasty and good value. Really great looking rural pub. Plenty of parking and lots of walks available from the pub. Recommended it highly.
A. S.
Went for a surprise birthday lunch and the food was delicious. Staff were really friendly and wrote Happy Birthday on desserts plate ... was a sweet gesture. We took our dog and it was easy to have a relaxed meal.
P. W.
We only went because we loved the name. But it turned out to be one of the best meals we have had in ages. Plus a fabulous atmosphere and good service. If ever we are back in Kent we will undoubtedly return
J. S.
Great food and service. Lovely atmosphere. Lots of alcohol options. Seems that nothing was too much of a problem for them. Very relaxed. My second time there, won't be the last.
S. G.
Great place... very warm welcome from head of staff and table service was also faultless.
Must admit the chicken Kebab beat me, couldn't finish it off.
If I was to fault anything but only being picky, there was a bit of a wait for the mains and the staff made lots of notes regarding meat to be well done, due to wife being pregnant but wasn't actioned so she had to wait even longer.
Keep up the good work..
C. P.
Very happy establishment great staff and managed well. Great food great people great atmosphere.
M. S.
Took the family for lunch for son's 21st, all meals were lovely. My lamb rump steak was delicious...
T. P.
Food was immense! Fresh ingredients, plenty of interesting dishes for everyone. Found it difficult to choose between main meals as there were some splendid options.
n. p.
Food good. Restaurant service good. Beer good. Bar girls were not good. Self absorbed millennials with little regard to customers.
S. C.
Really difficult to rate this fairly. The pizzas were amazing and staff friendly and helpful, if perhaps a little scarce at times. But the dessert we had was very disappointing - Eton Mess was basically a lump of cream, with a few piped bits of meringue, 3 slices of strawberry (not even a whole strawberry) and a very few blueberries. Shame to end the meal on a low. Would stick with the mains another time and skip the desserts.
C. B.
Waited an hour for our starters which were tepid when they arrived,so had to be sent back. The waitress was very apologetic though. The Salad Superbowl main and pasta dish were tasty. Not as wowed as I thought I would be.
S. M.
Nice place, very friendly and helpful staff, food was good but not the best
A.
Fabulous setting. Very good food and outstanding service.
B. M.
Good food. Portions weren't huge and could have been a bit more generous rather than presentation but tasty. Staff and service excellent. Good spacing from adjacent tables.
L. M.
The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Good selection of drinks available and the roast dinner was scrumptious!
d. g.
Frequent this establishment often and the food and atmosphere is always great.
J. C.
Bit pricey, however quality of food and service excellent. Sea Bass portion small, other restaurants provide twp pieces for similar price. The bigger scallop dish was very generous and delicious!
A. O.
There really isn't a great deal of choice on the gluten free menu, and there isn't much of an excuse for that nowadays. Service was good. Ladies WC is very small. Plenty of parking.
S. C.
Unfortunately on our 1st visit we were sat next to the guy making pizzas. Sort of felt like we'd Gate crashed everyone else's evening and Been put out the back out of the way. Shame because it was our wedding anniversary and I'd filled in a questionnaire sent to me from the the dirty habit asking about special dates etc. So not a great 1st time experience.
C. F.
Always lovely. One of my favourite places to eat and drink in Kent. Great, friendly, attentive staff who always make you feel welcome
B. H.
Fantastic food great service. 😋😋😋
K. S.
We booked and had lunch for 4 last Wednesday. My expectations were very high as I had heard excellent reviews but unfortunately I was left underwhelmed. In my opinion the food was highly over priced which would have been easier to Accept if it had all been perfect but it wasn’t. My aubergine tagine was tough and my husbands ribeye steak was full of inedible fat/gristle. The ribeye cost alone was £24 so we did politely mention we were not happy and their response was to knock off the cost of the crumble dessert which obviously was not much!
The service was OK but not overly friendly or helpful and no apology forthcoming for our disappointment with the steak.
On a plus, their Covid precautions were very good and we did feel safe eating inside the pub. So my 3 stars are for this point and the 2 other meals which were ‘nice’ but not outstanding.
H. K.
Food was fine, wine list was amazing, a lot of the menu was not available the day we visited and I do not think the food lived up the to price I paid.
The pub looks lovely and the staff are good but again did not live up to the reputation I heard.
B. R.
Exceptional manager with amazing customer service skills. I Had a slight issue with takeaway collection time, the manager personally called me to fix this immediately and honestly, I was then greeted as I collected my order and he went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Food was amazing!! Thankyou.
c.
Food was excellent, lovely to see a dog friendly pub, great service, only minor criticism was desert took a while to come after main, other then that will definitely go again.
l. f.
Stumbled upon it , as it was recommended by another establishment just along the road . The host was welcoming ,attentive and kind. The menu was varied , our choice of food was not only well presented but cooked to perfection and tasty.
C. M.
Food was delicious, service great. Can get busy so best to reserve a table!
m. t.
We came without booking and were made to feel welcome. An excellent meal with attentive service. Thank you...
a.
Great food, the steak is amazing, well worth a visit
D. W.
Had Christmas dinner here .. absolutely loved the food .the service was friendly and with a smile..the pub itself was cosy plenty of room..will visit again you can be assured.
B. C.
We had an excellent meal. Good quality, plenty of it, all reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

I have eaten multiple times at the Dirty Habit and never had a bad meal. This visit was after a long walk around the area.
A definite recommend 👌

Early Fatger's Day dinner. Great food, great place. I recommend you check out their other "eateries"!

Had booked in advance. It was a birthday treat. Service very slow waited 40 mins for meal after order two meals brought out then waiter started clearing other tables no explanation as to where other two meals were. No salt or pepper on table when asked brought over from a table that had just left condiments not wiped. No covid rules observed. There were a number of items on menu that had been sold out. Also asked three times for a jug of water then had to ask another waitress to bring it.Have been here a number of times not up to usual standard disappointing as had recommended it to our guests. I fed back to waiter and said he could have advised us on arrival how long we would wait for our meals.
D. J.
Went here after visiting Leeds Castle. Fantastic service, great, varied menu and food was lovely. Would highly recommend.
S. C.
Very nice good quality food. Lovely venue with some outdoor seating areas with cover. Nice atmosphere. Great stone baked pizza too. Also has good parking plus overflow carpark on busy days.
A. C.
The wife and I chose to have our second wedding reception here (the first was on the day of the wedding for those in attendance, second here a month later on may day bank holiday for friends and work colleagues etc). The food was fantastic, not that I saw much of it! Everyone said they loved the warmth and atmosphere. No music so people mingled nicely and being a small place it was cosy.
We try to eat here every six months or so and every time I don't want to leave it's such a nice place with great ales and food menu.
J. M.
We had a family meal here on Saturday night. We had pre-booked 2 tables. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Though we couldn't have one big table because of the Covid 19 rules, we had two adjacent tables outside under a marquee. The food was stunning and they were very attentive to one of our party who has food allergies. This made a memorable evening for us all and we'll certainly be back next year when the wedding that was to be this year will take place 2021.
J. M.
Was there in 2011. We were curious about the name and were renting a cottage at BicknorPark. We went on a Friday night and had a great time. We loved the name and the setting as well as the history and how it got its name. The food was great and so was the service. We went a few more times in the week and half. My only regret was my choices in the vodkas. Would love to come back some day. We were there for the British Open. Just a great place.
S. S.
Came here for my mother's 88th birthday. Excellent service.Kerry, in particular, managed to source us a pizza half with cheese and half without to accommodate my mother's food intolerances! Much appreciated.
S. S.
The food is so much better here than in the larger restaurants in the chain.
Nice staff, nice surroundings
C. K.
Lovely pub excellent meal
J. W.
Friendly pub. Accepted Dogs. We prebooked as limited seating with dogs. Pizzas were wonderful. Definately will be visiting again
R. H.
Excellent roast, good service, friendly staff.
B. L.
Went for an evening out with friends eating a pre-ordered set Xmas menu. The three courses were served within an hour and it felt like they couldn’t get us out of there quick enough. What was meant to be a relaxing evening out was over before it had began. Food was OK but nothing to get excited about. Service was good.
N. H.
We have enjoyed other pubs in this Group and never been disappointed. The Dirty Habit lives up to the standard. Venison burger top notch, signature skewered chicken delicious. The menu options make it easy to think about returning soon. I enjoyed the Harvey's beer, the Merlot was very convincing. Good parking.
T. N.
Beautiful little pub along the North Downs way. Lots of seating inside and outside and the food is amazing. Lots of choice, and not just the "normal" pub options.
Very friendly staff who can't do enough for you!
G. B.
It is a brilliant location for a first date. This place offers tremendous food, a wonderful selection of cocktails, spirits, and wine. It's set in a beautiful village. It also offers a car park off the street. The staff are very polite and give honest options on the food and also make very good recommendations. I have been here many times not just on first dates but with family and have really enjoyed the experience each time. The heated snug out in the garden area also makes a nice place to talk and relax.
I. S.
A traditional pub environment with a pleasant paved garden. The beer is excellent, though the venue is definitely aimed at eating rather than casual drinking.
I ate there 3 times in a week and the food was excellent each evening. The dishes had a twist on traditional pub food that lifted it above the usual fare.
M.
This was our first visit to pub
The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The food was fantastic good size portions, can’t recommend this place enough ,we will definitely be using again 👍👍👍
R. T.
Lovely, friendly team of people, great atmosphere, the vegan super bowl is absolutely delicious. Located in a nice quiet village, great gateway place from London.
B. A.
This 13th century pub has a great feel to it. I imagine hanging around the bar would be great after Covid. We had a nice meal. The Elite Pubs menu is good, as was our food. The service was efficient, warm and friendly. Good job of making the Covid restrictions as unobtrusive as possible.
We'll be coming back. Probably quite a few times.
Update: We have been back. We had a quick pint and a quick nibble in the garden after going for a nearby walk with the dogs. Still loving it.
S. F.
My wife and I have been coming here for years and we have always had superb customer service, great food and enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere.
L. H.
Super friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful building with gorgeous outside seating for smokers, dogs also welcome outside. Fantastic local walks ending at the restaurant where they have your food waiting for you. Prices were a little high but quality of food is exceptional so worth every penny
D. W.
Great food and lovely seating area with outside space to sit as well.
A. J.
Decent gastro pub.
Reasonable sized off street car parking. Came in for a meal with a party of four. Decent array of lagers -6, and real ales - 4. All that were tried were clear kept well and decent. Good array of gins, wines and liquors too.
Food was good quality and priced adequately. Everyone enjoyed what they had. Staff friendly and attentive.
j. p.
Had an amazing meal, food was delicious and staff were very polite and welcoming.
My only issue would be that the kids apple crumble came out on the hottest bowl in the world. Without warning this would have burnt little fingers
J. N.
Excellent venue. Full of character, nice comfortable ambience & very relaxed. Staff friendly, helpful & very efficient. Food delicious, and well presented. Have already booked a return!
M. P.
The most wonderful pub in Kent, in my humble opinion.
Superb menu and great service. The staff are always friendly and in winter the fires keep you warm and snug. The outside snug is great feature and on warmer winter days quite nice.
C. G.
Great food and great service will def be back the fillet steak and chicken kebab was amazing
a.
Staff are very helpful and friendly. They really made our birthday celebrations very lovely.
Food was very good too. A little on the pricier side though.
Lovely surroundings and great furniture to suit the history behind the building.
C. C.
Great, friendly staff, tasty food and they allow dogs. Nice setting and feel to the place too.
T. B.
Enjoyed a good meal here & there's a fine choice of beer. A very well kept ancient pub & a great starting/ending points for walks across the North Downs and along parts of the Pilgrim's Way. My only observation was that the lunchtime menu (pre-Christmas 2029) was not as mouthwatering as I was hoping it would be.
A. G.
Went there for Mother's Day. Very busy but very efficient service. Food was good for a pre-ordered set meal
D.
Great place, my style of pub.
Nice staff, the guy that served us was on point, he knew exactly what he was doing and very polite.
I will definitely go back, and definitely advise a visit if you haven't been already, if you have been, then you know you'll be going back.
S. S.
Excellent food and service. Thoroughly enjoyable experience 👌
N. P.
Excellent Sunday roast coupled with excellent service. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit. I will definitely be returning :)
D. T.
Attentive staff but not pushy. Got recommended the kebab- delicious. Party of 6 and all had good meals. Beautiful ancient pub so atmospheric
A. I. (. U.
Food was great, they did forget the bread and oil for our starter but it was easily taken off the bill and we were offered complimentary coffee for their mistake. Staff were friendly, though there was the odd period we had to wait to order more drinks. Would recommend just for the food and historic feel of this lovely old pub with modern trimmings. Parking is limited if it's busy as they have a dozen or so spaces in the carpark but we found a place out on the road so was no biggy.
V. G.
A lovely looking pub. Very welcoming. Polite attentive staff, good food that's well presented and an all round nice evening. My only criticism was the online menu wasn't the menu when we got there which was a disappointment as had chosen what I wanted.
M. R.
A Greta country pub with really great food and a delicious menu. They cater to various dietary requirements and have a good selection of choices. The interior is very cosy and inviting. They are dog friendly and there is a parking area at the back of the pub
S.
Very good food. Very friendly and attentive staff.
D. E.
Absolutely superb. Top food and brilliant staff! Definitely worth the hours drive from Essex
D. W.
We booked a table for a birthday lunch on Monday. Excellent food, great service and to top it off the pub are still running the Eat Out scheme so a generous discounts as well. Highly recommended
S. S.
Stopped at the local mercure hotel and decided to go out for a meal. So happy that we did, not only did they have one of my favourite beers on tap the food was excellent. Lovely fresh food, tasty and perfectly presented. We both wish there was something similar local to us but if we are ever here again we will definitely return to the pub.
T. “. K.
Nice country pub with excellent food
J. M.
Lovely atmosphere and great food. Ordered the lobster and it was overcooked but that's the only thing I can criticise. The staff were helpful and friendly and the venue was clean yet rustic. I do love this place. It is a tad on the expensive side but nice for a little treat.
C. H.
Lovely little pub with nice atmosphere and generally good bunch of clientele. Food is excellent, not cheap but good. It's quite small on the dining front so book to avoid disappointment. The pub is part of a chain. The sister pubs are also worth a scout.
T. B.
I love this place! Food is always excellent, staff are attentive and the atmosphere is very chilled. Could do with a bigger car park but that doesn't affect the 5 star rating, which is very well deserved!
N. A.
Impressed. 4 for Sunday roasts. Very good service and excellent food. Couple of anomalies though, treacle tart for dessert was a treacle sponge and apple and gooseberry crumble was missing the gooseberries, replaced by blackberries, possibly! P.S book an early table, parking is limited.
P. A.
Food and service great. Menu has a lot of tempting dishes. Won't be long before I go back to try more.
L. K.
Had a lovely meal. Good was full of flavour and plentiful. Only downside was the lack of vegetarian options for my husband who was the only one in our group who didn't enjoy his meal of falafel. The only other option was quinoa salad. Such a shame as otherwise I'd come again.
S. F.
This place is absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants great quality Foods. The staff are fantastic. The atmosphere is awesome, you can actually hear yourself think. The aroma of the log fire is beautiful. I would highly recommend a visit. It should be on the best guide of Kent 10/10
m. “. t. s.
Lovely looking pub , but was to pricey for what we had fish n chips and 1½ beers , the chips I thought were triple fried very dark coloured,j asked waitress she said No whilst coughing into her hand and disappeared ,fish was ok
The mrs said tasteless , so on the whole could be better food and then price would be acceptable thks.
A. G.
Friendly team and great service. Excellent menu and food of high quality. Would do better to include more vegetarian options on the Sunday menu more overtly, as I perceived that choice was limited. The only lost star was for the coffee, which was burnt and extremely bitter. Undrinkable.
M. M.
Lovely, well preserved pub/restaurant. Extremely welcoming atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended. Car park is a bit tight. Doing great work during lockdown offering takeaways.
G. B.
Beautiful setting, delicious meal and excellent service. We'll be back, many thanks
C. C.
Superb meal and first class service. Very enjoyable experience 😊
B.
Good pizza and beer.
T. W.
Outstanding food, really nice pub and setting, service was also perfect
D. S.
Great varied menu (lots of vegan and celiac options!), lovely food, friendly staff (served at a good pace), really cosy old English setting with log fires and excellent value. Will most definitely be coming back :-)
M. G.
Lovely venue. Historic building but refurbished in a great way. Excellent staff who are really attentive. Food was really good, the Tapas board hit the spot perfectly. Would go again for sure!
j. d.
Absolutely amazing food. Loved every course. Would love to come again but I live miles away
M. F.
Good food, good walks and views and good trails along the North Downs Way / Pilgrims Way.
A. S.
Great chain of pubs. The Dirty Habit is one of my favourites. Take a look at the walks on their website, (the views from the north downs are worth it). Then hunker down in the pub with some fantastic food. It's always busy, so worth booking in advance.
g.
What a great country pub. Amazing food, with a touch of difference to make it something special. Friendly staff and good drinks selection. A touch on the pricey side (£14 for a burger), but made up for with that little extra compared to some other country pubs.
H. N.
Good range of fresh seasonal options, meat and fish boards, tapas and bar snacks, vegetarian options and lovely desserts. Great atmosphere with inside and outside dining. Staff are friendly and alternative without being annoying. Not cheap but not overpriced either. Car parking can be difficult at busy times but you can usually squeeze in somewhere
t.
Gorgeous location complemented by some excellent cuisine backed up by a more than decent selection of wines and beers. Both management and staff were very hospitable and accommodating - very rustic surroundings.
A. G.
We had Sunday lunch, had the roast and it’s was delicious and very good value for money, excellent service, looking forward to coming again.
A. D.
Great food, lovely staff and a good wine list!
C. B.
Had a fantastic meal. Friendly but not in your face staff. Well priced and even had gin on a special offer. Would love to visit again and definitely recommend it to anyone.
M. H.
Went for the first time to a leaving do,Good food, good service, nice atmosphere .HighlyRecommended.

Great pub. Fabulous atmosphere. Food excellent. Looking forward to our next visit. Thanku to everyone here!
A. M.
Amazing vegan food! Lovely ambience and great staff. Felt very welcoming. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.
D. F.
Lovely old pub on both the North Downs Way and the Pilgrims (cycle) Way. Nice place to put our feet up and have a pint before walking back.
L. S.
The Dirty Habit never disappoints. Proper country pub feel without feeling cliquey. Always a warm welcome and attentive, relaxed and friendly service.
P. C.
There's no doubt that this pub has a great atmosphere, courteous and helpful bar staff, a good selection of ales and the food is of a high standard and quality. So why not five stars? When I say the food is of very good quality, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the quantity. My husband and I came here for lunch following a morning stroll along the North Downs Way and had worked up a fair appetite. Whilst I was broadly happy with the portions of my choice, my husband who chose the duck breast, only received six small slices along with the potato and veg sides which were also a little too conservative in portion sizes, which made his choice rather expensive for the amount he received.
He has given this feedback to the staff who informed him that they do not serve a whole duck breast. It is a pity, about half as much again would have been satisfactory and given the pub a perfect five!
If you like walking the pub also have pamphlets of circular walks from and to the pub which is a very good idea.
N. P.
Superb food, couldn't fault the staff, very friendly and a lovely location.
P. N.
Nice atmosphere, good service, limited parking when very busy, menu doesn't change very often but still a food evening out
H. B.
Went for dinner tonight with my husband and dog. Would thoroughly recommend. Food was amazing. Lovely setting, friendly staff and dog friendly. Will certainly be going back. Reasonably priced too.
N. P.
Excellent, had an memorable Sunday roast, but plenty else on the menu. Would recommend you book at weekend... limited parking at pub but plenty of additional roadside parking. Great service
J. K.
Food very good. Very busy little pub. Would definitely recommend to book first.
M. R.
Nice interior with good service, amazing beer garden with sofas inside two really nice fire places. One of the best roasts I had unfortunately they run out of beef and that was just before 15:00 on Sunday. Parking can be problematic sometime, but there is some space on the street.
R. W.
Had such an amazing time last night at The Dirty Habit. Food was brilliant, as always, the service was on point and the atmosphere was welcoming. Can't wait to go back again!
D. H.
Absolutely superb food in a very old cosy pub setting. Very reasonable prices and great service as well! Be warned, advanced booking of 1-2 weeks is strongly recommended as it can get heavily booked.
One of my favourite restaurants in Kent.
S. M.
Haven't been here for 15+ years. Great food and service, the dining area has been extended in a tasteful way. We will be going back again very, very soon.
G. W.
I would have liked a ploughmans rest ok good service and polite staff.
M. F.
Lovely pub for a Sunday lunch. Part of the Elite pub group. Have been to three of them now, and they all serve good food with friendly service at a reasonable price. Parking is a problem at this pub as itbis limited.
S. a. M. C.
Super food, great beer perfect
P. M.
Great food & service; really enjoyed our meals & would thoroughly recommend. Lovely place to spend some time.
J. L.
It was busy and the staff not as good as on previous visits. Plus i remember a wider selection of beer. But probably worth a try. The windmill (i think its called) or sugar loaves in the village may be better choice now
K. .. W.
Excellent food, dog friendly, warm cozy atmosphere!
C. B.
Lovely old pub / restaurant with great food. Changed a bit since I first used it but there aren't so many monks around nowadays 😃☺️
T. B.
Had a family meal to celebrate all our birthdays. Food excellent. Service excellent. Definitely worth a visit. Will come back
M. W.
The staff were very friendly and service was excellent. The food was good and the atmosphere was comfortable . The outdoor eating area was very nice and I noticed a bike hire opportunity for people who want to have a trundle round the lanes.

The Dirty Habit is a great place as a base for a whole bunch of different walks around the North Downs. I don't know if they still do them but when we first moved to the area, we picked up a handful of leaflets detailing 'Walks of The Dirty Habit' and these range from easy 5k routes to slightly more challenging longer ones. We usually finish off the walk with a drink at The Dirty Habit. Although they do not have a great range of IPA's on offer (my husband is the IPA drinker) they do offer a vast array of other drink choices, including a decent selection of non alcoholic options. We have eaten there maybe twice, most recently after a walk last weekend and we had the tapas platter which was VERY nice however I would say it is grossly overpriced at £17! I do find, in general as a pub, that it is slightly on the pricey side but I would recommend doing some (if not all) of the walks centered around The Dirty Habit and either starting or finishing it (or both) with a drink or snack.
S. H.
Outstanding! From the welcome to dessert, a fabulous dining experience. Menu options are extensive and we were not disappointed. Would highly recommend
J. A. T.
Amazing friendly staff, barman even gave my puppy a cushion to sit at the bar, very dog friendly, definitely will be back.
A. G.
Wonderful quirky pub with superb menu for dining , very good service and enjoyed a delicious 3 course dinner.
K. P.
Good food in a welcoming atmosphere. Service could have been better, she was a little disorganised and had a habit of passing food over the heads of other diners
Apart from that the meal was very enjoyable.
C. J.
Fabulous! Great service, varied menu, tasty food and a welcoming atmosphere. Strongly recommend.
H. W.
We had an excellent evening at the Dirty Habit. A picturesque pub with tudor beams. An excellent menu with a good choice of dishes French & English cuisine. A great atmosphere with good & friendly service.
G. E.
Great variety of food. Lovely staff
A. M.
Fantastic food, great service and atmosphere. The decor is fab, I wish more pubs in Kent were like this. Been to two of the sister (elite) pubs, but this is my favourite thus far.
L. W.
Very nice interior, food and service was amazing. The Macaroni and cheese was fantastic! Good selection of beer on tap, and an extensive wine list.
L. P.
Divine food, very cosy welcoming atmosphere.
Baked halibut with delicious pac choi and lovely juice/ broth. Panda cotta really good. My daughter said her fish and chips was the best she has ever tasted. The salted caramel ice cream served with chocolate brownie was really stunning.
My son enjoyed a very tasty Aberdeen Angus burger and my husband said the duck salad was delicious. Well done to The Dirty Habit!
J. R.
Traditional English pub in the countryside, with easy access from the M20. Lots of walks from here around the north downs way, or theHucking Estate.
Friendly staff, great menu, good beer selection. Dog friendly!
B. L.
Very good food in a nice restaurant, polite staff and comfortably COVID secure. First time visit but will not be the last. A good pint of Harvey's as well!
L. K.
Very good food. Staff were friendly but parking was a problem.
G. B.
Popped in for lunch today 28/8/2015 and were very pleasantly surprised at the improvement.
Hadn't been for few years, under new management now and we thought the food and service was excellent! Perhaps food slightly over priced but really worth it.
R. C.
This is part of a wider chain of pubs and inns, the food is nicely prepared and the staff are very friendly and attentive. We were here for a staff Christmas party and everything went very smoothly and we felt looked after and were accommodated as a large group.

Excellent traditional local pub with loads of authentic features. Well kept draught ales and good food. Quite expensive but you get what you pay for. Should be five stars but let down by the loos. A bit grim, could do with a referb.

A very friendly and welcoming pub, traditional and not a common chain. Dog friendly and serves very good food. Can get very busy at lunctimes so booking a table is advisable.

Came here on a whim after visiting Leeds castle. Food, service, ambience was all great and no flicker of discontent that our baby was having a bit of a grump. The fact they also have the lager Curious Brew is a big tick for me too

Lovely atmosphere, food was great and the staff were very helpful. They catered to food allergies with no fuss and were great with the birthday celebrations!
K. Y.
Warm and cozy pub with great food! They have several gluten free options on the menu and the staff are knowledgeable about dietary requirements.

A nice 'ye olde pub' with great service and great food. Space is a little tight so it might bother you as chairs get knocked frequently if you are on the wrong side of a table. Nice atmosphere.
S. W.
Food not bad. A bit noisy where we were seated. Probably try again but will ask for a table in a different area of the restaurant.
S. F.
Lovely pub with helpful and friendly staff. The Christmas meal I had for work was amazing the food was perfect with a log fire and the smoking area was cosy woth blankets and sofas with heaters.

Superb restaurant and pub. And the amazing interior! And in the summer, outside seating is more than adequate in the lovely garden.

Great location (Hollingbourne, and North Downs). Proper English country pub. Menu doesn't seem to have changed in about five years but is decent enough.
