Reviews of The Yew Tree - Sandling
I. D.
Prawn and avocado wrapped in cucumber was not what we expected for a prawn cocktail. Great idea and so good.
The fillet steak was the best we've had, even better the one we had from a Michelin starred chef in Switzerland.
Great pub, great food and well worth a visit.
s. m.
Nice little traditional tucked away country pub/restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff, tracey was very accommodating. The menu offered a great range and we were not disappointed with our choices being the calamari and scallops starters followed by the seabass and fillet steak #theyewtree #theextreamlyhappycouple #thehappycouple #inlove #maidstone

Nice people but on arrival told that they were running late and our table was not available for 15 minutes. Strange as loads of empty tables. Food was average, not a great selection although was running a limited menu due to supply issues. Main meals, 2 came out and was told to start eating as other 2 would be a while as the chef got order wrong. Overall lovely pub but in my opinion small overpriced portions and poor organisation. Great location.

First time visit today as a group of 4. Small traditional pub feel, with child free restaurant section which was a nice change. Avocado prawns was beautifully presented as in the photos on other reviews. Home made pies delicious with very tasty seasonal veg, sea bass cooked and presented beautifully. The Lamb Tangini was over cooked and too rich. Fed back to owner who agreed and apologised and showed me another batch of the same that looked so much better. Was given a refund for the dish and a free dessert so was happy with the response. Be prepared for a wait for food but nothing unacceptable. Prices were on the high end compared with similar restaurants around Maidstone. Desserts £7 each and felt these were over priced for what they were. Overall we had a good evening, staff very friendly and attentive.

Good pubs serving splendid food isn’t difficult in Kent. The Yew Tree is a case in point; tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy A-roads and Motorways lives an accommodating country pub serving Britain’s finest.
I love the decor; a lot of care has been put into the look and feel of the exterior and interior. Outside there feels like queues of Alice in Wonderland. Inside it feels like a study.
Service is professional, personable and perceptive. My pick of the dishes was the sumptuous scallops.
L. F.
Very friendly, food was excellent. I am gluten free and I was catered for easily. Would recommend to anyone. Well done.

No atmosphere! Popped in for a Friday evening drink. Thought it was closed, car park empty, one other couple eating and a lonely cyclist hug his beer. Chef arms crossed behind the bar didn't even get a grunt from him, felt as if we were intruding. Pub clean and has potential but sadly has a long way to go.
A. G.
Amazing food, well thought out menu, friendly and helpful staff. In a nice cosy venue.
A. L.
Staff are welcoming and very attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed and homely, the food is EXCELLENT and presented well, The service was exceptional and faultless both timely and attentive. Value for money was fabulous. Cant recommend the Yew Tree Inn high enough, great team work. Thank you for a perfect Sunday.
J. M.
Lovely meal, food excellent, staff very attentive. Will definitely going back again.
S. E.
Had a delicious, reasonably priced three course meal here. There was a broad selection of meals that pandered to the varied tastes of our group of six. The presentation of the food was excellent and pleasing to the eye. The waitress was very attentive, polite and welcoming and catered for our every need. Seating arrangement was good without our party being too close to others. Due to Covid, tables were only allocated for two hours but we didn't feel rushed. There was a pleasant ambience there and it was an enjoyable evening I would recommend others try.
P. A.
Visited for my daughters birthday very expensive for an average meal.
One of the group ordered fish and there was gravy on her plate.
A. R.
Fantastic food & great service. We will be back (regularly!!)
P. N.
Really good food, best roast I've had in a while. Nice & friendly service in a really well decorated pub.
F. L.
We had not booked and were not welcomed very enthusiastically initially but after agreeing to wait were served very well and the food was extremely good
G. W.

Lovely pub / restaurant, food was excellent and a great menu all cooked on the premises. Wonderful staff.
Thank you for a great experience.
S. M.
Great food, cooked from fresh, with a very varied menu.
S. B.
Nice pub, food was lovely & a great pint too.
T. “. K.
Food really good and plenty of it. The reason for 4* is because they had run out of quite a few things but staff very accommodating in replacements
P. H.
Lovely place with great food and very friendly and attentive staff. Would recommend.
M. L.
Nice freshly cooked food. Only improvement would be as a vegetarian it would've been nice to have a separate menu with choice of mains, rather than have to ask and wait for chef to confirm. Its good they had options for me though.
M. C.
Great food at reasonable prices. Good selection of beers and wine. Friendly staff always checking if all is as expected. Will definitely be going back again especially for the Sunday lunch.
P. M.
Sunday lunch was a bit more expensive than any where I've been to before so cannot afford this very often
F. W.
Lovely food as always, enjoyed our lunch. Thank you 😊
G. M.
Fantastic Sunday roast in beautiful surroundings, staff were super efficient and nothing was too much trouble. We felt special and well looked after. Well deserved five stars.
l. b.
Had a lovely roast dinner definitely recommend a visit
L.
What a lovely pie I had, the food cooked to perfection, staff nice and chatty. Have a nice and clean tables outside.
W. C.
Fabulous Sunday Lunch! Plenty of meat & fresh veg, very pleasant staff. Good selection of Ales! Highly recommend it!
G. B.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant. It's been a very long time since I have had service like I received at the Yew Tree. The hostess was lovely, kind mannered and attentive. All food cooked to order and no large horrible noisy tables which makes for a lovely atmosphere.
You really can tell that they care about good food, seasonal produce and fantastic presentation.
Lovely range of beers and wines and a cosy atmosphere which would suit small groups and couples.
We will be back again, most definitely!!
K. J.
The restaurant menu has a wide selection of starters and main meals. Have been to this place twice now and will go again and again. Well-run. Nice food.
C. H.
Went about 3 weeks ago for a friend's birthday. Had to pre-book. On arrival you're seated at a table in a waiting area by the entrance, hand sanitizer available, it's to make sure they're completely ready for you to go straight to the table. Face coverings are mandatory when not seated.
Food was excellent, I had prawn cocktail, lamb and sticky toffee pudding, no complaints from any of our party. Each course was presented on a hostess trolley and you passed your own plates over. Not overly crowded, even though busy. Not sure if they do takeaway. Staff very pleasant. Would definitely return. A good evening was had by all.
V. K.
Really great pub-restaurant. The food is amazing to a level that I didn't expect. Beautifully cooked food and combinations that you can't go wrong with! Definitely go and visit and make sure you have an empty stomach because you are going to definitely succumb to the temptation of a 3 course meal. The portions are very generous and the prices very reasonable. Very good quality food and during summer they have a very beautiful garden that is great for families with kids. This is definitely a hidden gem in Kent.
M. M.
Loved it, great food, great service and ambiance!
M. S.
The ambience of the venue was perfect. The lamb and the steak dishes were delicious in their entirety with appropriate spices and sauce to perfect the great quality meat. Every mouthful from the meat to the sauce to the chips to the dressed salad was much enjoyed. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
s.
Dog friendly
Amazing Sunday roast dinner 8.9 all day long.
E.
Slow service and dated restaurant decor but food pretty good.
E. W.
Lovely meal last night. The food was great, service was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Very covid safe, good social distancing and lots of cleaning. Will be back soon.
M. W.
A lovely cosy country pub the bar menu is not huge but the restaurant menu has other choices I had the pie of the day which was minted lamb with chips and veg and it was the best pie I have had in a long time the meat just fell apart and was extremely tasty no fat at all just perfect. My husband had fish and chips and that too was a lovely meal we will be back !
m. f.
First time here for a very long time. Staff really friendly, food was very delicious. Couldn't fault it. We have already booked Sunday lunch. Would definitely recommend.
N. W.
Took my girlfriend there for a meal Wednesday evening for her birthday treat I was unsure what it was going to be like. I can honestly say your made to feel welcome as soon as you walk in and I was called by my first name in which was nice, 1st class service , me and Linda both agreed the freshly crooked food was out of this world food just amazing and definitely 100% will be going back highly recommended. Thanks.

Lovely food great place for a treat
P. H.
Lovely food. The staff were polite and professional. The Covid 19 precautions that were in force were comprehensive but because they were so well done, we felt very comfortable and safe.
D.
Great food, nice ambience and very attentive staff ( if a bit too speedy at times ) Beware, generous portions meant that we could only manage two courses. Will definitely be returning to sample more of the menu. We had a lovely evening.
D. B.
Came here with family for my parents anniversary after reading some reviews as my mum is notoriously hard to please when it comes to restaurants. She's always finds something to complain about.
3 different roasts were ordered, lamb, rib of beef and the mixed roast which had all 3 meats. One had the sea bass, and another had a starter but brought out with the mains.
First off, the size of the roasts are massive. Normally at a restaurant you'll be given a small amount of meat, usually 2 or 3 thin slices. Here at least half of the plate is meat. All meats were thick, tender, mouthwatering cuts. The gravy was lovely and thick and tasted beautiful, didn't even need extra gravy. 2 large roasted potatoes which were nice and fluffy, none of your frozen spuds here. 1 large yorkie pud, light and crisp. Broccoli and carrots cooked to perfection (I imagine different veg at different seasons?). To top it all of a big dish of cauliflower cheese was placed onto the table to share. I cannot fault any of the dishes that were brought out. Even my mum loved every bit of it and was upset she was unable to finish it all. I am told the sea bass was good too but I didn't manage to try any as it was gone very quickly.
Dessert choices were good and large in portion.
Customer service was great and very attentive. Quick to clear up and very polite.
Great choice of beer available but I was driving so couldn't review all of them for this post.
I would like to thank all of the staff for such a wonderful dinner.
I would say it is best to book in early to avoid disappointment.
R.
Book well in advance if you want to eat here.
C. F.
Excellent, would highly recommend and will be visiting again
r. h.
My first post lockdown pub visit ,the staff couldn't have been any more friendly and helpful , the food was delicious as was the beer ,our friendly waitress was always on hand for drinks.A great pub
D. T.
Absolutely amazing. So quaint and relaxing. Attention to detail and quality of food exceptional. Very enjoyable experience.
n. L.
Really enjoyed my meal here, food was really good, im a coeliac and they catered for me perfectly, the lemon pudding was gorgeous, the seating area outside was lovely too, especially at this time of year and the staff were really nice, will definately be going back!
B. D.
First time coming here, very impressed with the food, I had smoked duck breast and then the fish and chips, very nice, will be back to try more!
D. B.
Visited the yew tree on good friday with our friends..... Had a beautiful meal. Nothing was too much trouble even when one guest didn't like the glass of red wine he ordered - This was rectified immediately with no fuss by the owner. We will be back again soon.
P. B.
Surprisingly pretty Pub next to the motorway nice gardens, made to feel welcome, starters and mains very good - we had wild mushrooms, fishcakes, goose and pork belly slightly disappointed with the "special" pecan pie desert which could have been improved by serving it warm with ice-cream. If we're in the area again we will go back.
S. L.
Proper table linen and unobtrusive service. 2 of us had goose which was excellent. The lamb and pork also got rave reviews. Starters of whitebate and crab cakes were equally as good. Desserts were enjoyed by all. A must do place to go. Sue, Roddy, Emma and Rob
T. W.
We had a table for 4. We all had different meals, which were cooked well and enjoyed. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Would go again. Would recommend. Lovely little venue.
K. N.
Outstanding food presented very well in excellent surroundings will be returning highly recommended

My husband and I had sunday lunch here today , on recommendation by my sister, the pub was lovely, the food was tasty, hot and well presented, Max our waiter was a delightful young man, very helpful and polite , the young girl was aslo very polite but we had more dealings with Max , would thoughly reccomend the Yew Tree !
D. H.
Beautiful country pub, amazing food cooked to perfection the best Sunday roast ever, the selection of gluten free was amazing, excellent service
Would definitely recommend and would visit again
A. M.
pub is very quaint but in serious need of bits of TLC. a very large plastic flower display looks drab and about 30 years old and underneath it there is a (very) untidy mess of childrens toys. Lampshades and the whole place is generally in need of update/dusting. Toilets are reasonably clean ( but the loo brush really does need changing) was going to eat here but no vegetarian choices at all on the menu and bar staff just verbally gave us 2 options. Garden is beautiful. Wouldnt return. Shame as as the pub is a little hide away place and could be made stunning with just a little effort
R. R.
The food is loverly but most of all it's very safe they insist you were your mask until seated they all were masked all the time nothing is handled and the owenerwhen finished changes the table cloth sanitizers the table and the chairs a good place to eat well done to all the staff and good luck
A. L.
Lovely experience. Great food selection and a cosy atmosphere. It's a family business, thus be mindful that big families will be there, which tends to get a bit noisy at times with small kids running around. It's still a lovely experience, nonetheless.
D. M.
Beautiful pub with a fantastic atmosphere especially during the festive season.. Food to die for very tasty indeed. Staff very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend to others. Will definitely be back.
S. B.
Lovely atmosphere, great dining with staff who are attentive, warm, and super COVID safe. We had a lovely evening and will certainly be back.
J. H.
Lovely beer garden. Really good staff and really tasty food. The lamb and mint pie was lovely
C. C.
I have to give this restaurant 5 stars. The service was impeccable and the food was mouthwatering! I would highly recommend the lamb shank and sea bass - will be visiting again soon!
A. G.
Beautiful pub which unfortunately is stuck next to the M20 the sound outside us atrocious but is okay once inside. The bar is homely and staff are polite, rarely gets busy probably due to the tucked away location. Do recommend if in the sandling area.
K. D. O.
Had a lovely after work dinner there. The starters, main and deserts were all delicious. The sticky toffee pudding was up there with some of the best I have had to date.
B. B. (.
I went here for a Christmas meal 3/12/16 all of the food was excellently cooked & tasted delicious from starter to dessert a delightful experience for the taste buds. The licensee & staff were brilliant they could not do enough for you & we've already booked our next meeting there for 2017.
R. G.
Excellent quality and service. They did not have a Sunday children's menu but did accommodate with a discounted smaller portion. Proper home cooked grub
S. R.

Just come back from our second visit within a week. Simply love this place, it's so relaxed and layed back , makes such a change from the usual busy, noisy restaurants around. The food is amazing and soooo tasty. It actually fills you up.
The Restuarant is just the right size so it very cosy. Would definitely recommend this place to others and will make this our regular eating establishment

Very very tasty food at decent prices, with good service as well. Can recommend, but decide if you want starter or dessert as you will be full after starter and mains !
R. T.

R. P.
Went to the Yew tree for lunch, but it was fully booked, she recommended the Harrow inn which was awful but to avoid the King's Arms which we past on the way to the Harrow Inn, we went to the King's Arms earlier this year, great pub.
R. F.
Good food. Good service. Nice range of beers. Just by a flyover , if you are in the garden area, the continual road noise spoils a tranquil spot.
