Reviews of Gorilla
H. D.
Amazing cocktails and food, great atmosphere and brilliant, helpful and friendly staff. After eating our meals we went next door to the club to watch a band. Great little live music venue. My only criticism would be we would have liked a few more choices on the bottle bar, but overall we had a fantastic night.
C.
Love this place! Great choice of cocktails. We went for brunch which I would highly recommend. The food was great and they also cater for vegans
M. M.
My first time I was invited by Narrow Margin Tameside band to write a review on their comeback gig ! A real gritty place which encourages our new bands to play & to get discovered ! Truly an an amazing place to be seen & spotted ! Fantastic for the music scene! In the heart of Manchester’s music scene !
E. L.
Fantastic food and coffee, relaxed on a Saturday morning. Excellent vegan breakfast and chicken with pancakes, good to find a place that can showcase vegan and non-vegan food so well in the same place.
K. H.
Went to see Sam Ryder here and it was fantastic :) I was unfortunate to have an accident and required surgery and when I advised the staff they were quick to offer me a seat and another entrance to avoid the crowd and queues. The staff went above and beyond so I could still enjoy the gig despite being on crutches. Thank you so much and would highly recommend :)
J. L.
Absolutely amazing time spent here with family, a great team of people who served us here are so lovely, food was top quality and cocktails were perfect, definitely a return for us.
M. L.
Always good food here, been loving their roasts before the pandemic, and yesterday I went back here for the first time. Ordered the chargrilled chicken which was accompanied by the most amazing chimicurri sauce, crunchy roast potatoes and fresh veggies. The use of good quality sea salt lifted this dish to the next level. Would def order again!
M. S.
Really good venue. Staff were very polite and quick at the bar. It's a small place but the sounds great.
C. F.
Hippo's reunion, very, very good. The music was great, the guys warming up the dancefloor did a superb job and the orchestra, I wasn't to enthusiastic about them but they turned out to be intense and it worked, they were good.
But as always Jay Wearden took it away. Another quality night.
Thanks Jason, Rosie and all the folk who helped us oldies feel alot younger for the night, although I may also have slipped a disc Jay.
Fantastic thank you all for your efforts, it was a brilliant night, great atmosphere.
G. S.
Went for breakfast/brunch, served til midday. Nice chicken waffles, serving Grindsmith coffee, dog friendly. Would suggest booking as they were turning ppl away when we were there on a Saturday morning.
A. S.
As a music venue it's great. However the last few times I've been, it's been noticed the music has been lower in volume than in the past. I suppose there might be a noise abatement issue because of the apartments nearby.
It's a live music venue in the traditional sense with a capacity of around 450. It's got decent ventilation which is needed on the EDM Nights I've been to there.
Young Warrior & Megatone Sound Systems were performing & the entertainment was good, albeit the attendance a little disappointing. I reckon at the height of the night there were roughly 100-120 people there.
To be fair though, I've rarely seen Manchester City Centre so empty on a Friday night. It was eerily quiet & I reckon the cost of living crisis brought about by Brexit, Covid & the war in Ukraine are having an effect on other events too, as many seem to be struggling to fill venues recently.
M. S.
Friendly staff with some interesting options on the menu. Fish tacos, chicken tacos and carrot taco in the pictures. Prices are reasonable and the environment is really nice and chilled.
L. S.
Amazing venue for live music. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I was nervous about going to a gig while heavily pregnant and they really went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and I had the best night, thank you! I will be on the look out for more shows here, best small venue in Manchester!
D. H.
Fabulous evening at Gorilla really enjoyed the new menu! Best chicken and onion bhaji I’ve tasted plus really cool live music by Will from Pink Shirts! See you soon!
M. H.
Went to see Sam ryder had the best time great venue! Would definitely recommend. Think next time I would pay for the VIP area. But only because I'm small and that is up high so you can see better. Drinks were nice, Expensive but as expected.
A. R.
Went to see the score the other night. Really enjoyed the gig. Great sound and lights. Brilliant atmosphere. I've recently injured myself, so had to go on crutches. The staff were very helpful and made sure my mobility issues were looked after.
S. J. R.
The Luka State performed at this venue, and it was a great experience 👌 the venue itself was excellent but you gotta go and see for yourself. I loved it. 😍
C. C.
I’d come back for the service alone. Our waitress had great energy and made us feel like we were in her home, serving us a home-cooked meal. The food was also delicious, and I’d like to try more of the menu.
C. F. M. I.
Nice place, good food. We waited just a little bit too long for our meals.
M. S.
One of my absolute favourite venues in Manchester. I've been to many gigs here and it always delivers.
A. J.
Great venue. Drinks not too pricey
J. S.
Saw IDER gig there - nice intimate feel. A fantastic experience and great vibes
L. T.
The main bar / diner is a nice place, but slow behind the bar later. The concert venue is ideal with 3 bars and great stage area, but the security were rude and overbearing. Hope to have better experience next time.
H. L.
Solid 5 stars for service and good vibes in a nice location, but 3 stars for food. I ordered chicken and pancakes (no waffles available when we went), and my partner got the pancakes with rhubarb. Everything else was great, but the pancakes were not at all what you’d expect when the menu says buttermilk pancakes (see photo). Mine were fine as a vehicle for the chicken, egg, and bacon, but they were too eggy and a bit underdone for my partner. We would have liked a more accurate description of the food, but maybe they’re updating their menu atm. We’d probably come again and try something else.
C. M.
Great atmosphere, saw 65 Days Of Static here, draft beer a bit variable but overall a good place to see your favourite band, bad beer is practically part of the specification...
m. w. s.
Great place for a pint and food especially if you're heading to a gig later on. Always busy but always a friendly crowd. Beer is great good is great. It's great. Great.
M. P. (. P.
We only popped in for a few drinks before a concert but the vibe in Gorilla was very cool! Drinks reasonably priced and the food coming out of the kitchen looked gorgeous 🔥
M. V.
We were happy, with the music and serving. Good days there arround great people.
P. R.
Really nice and enjoyed the time there. Went with some work friends and booked the table upstairs, as went for 10 people, they gave us the entire space upstairs. As it was busy, the staff didn't come up on a regular basis to check but that was pre-warned when we booked and the food and drinks came at good time after order was placed with some check in on drinks every once in a while. Nice vibe, buzzing but not too noisy and staffs were very nice and friendly.
Food was very good, favourite here is the chicken. They make really good fried chicken. I ordered the gochujang burger which was tasty and not soggy, I really enjoyed that. The taco was also flavoursome. They have brunch menu which I generally enjoy as well, my favourite chicken waffle in town.
Went back again to organise an event for work and booked the mezzanine floor, was great!
D. W.
Nice food in terms of quality, taste and presentation. My highlight of the meal was the blueberry banana smoothie, it was so fresh and natural. I like it very much. Staffs are friendly, we were having lunch, the environment was quiet, this was the fourth time I came to this restaurant and definitely will come back in future.
P. P.
Excellent cocktails and a decent burger. The music venue is super claustrophobic with long lines to bars whenever it's packed. No mobile signal inside either.
S. M.
Such a wonderful place to be with lots of live concerts and disco nights that attract more than 200 youths weekends. Vibrant Securities on ground though with little or no threats.
M. T.
Amazing small venue! Brilliant atmosphere and well sound engineered. Friendly bar staff too!
K. W. W.
The live events I've attended have been full of excitement atmosphere and safety. A really fun place. Keith.
P. J.
Great place to meet up for drinks and food. Had the burger which was decent but quite a few choices on the menu
S. C.
Excellent food and friendly service in authentic Manchester surroundings. Have been in the evening and found it a little loud but a great spot for lunch. Would recommend the fried chicken waffles for the perfect mix of salty and sweet. Perfect for brunch or lunch.
Q. H.
New menu after covid. I miss French toast and grilled banana. New shape of pancake looks good.
J. K.
Omg soooooooo delicious ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The band I work for is performing next door and usually I like to get loading in early and fast . That doesn’t seem to happen so well in the UK .
so I’m learning to my time .
Fortunately for me this lovely restaurant is right next door . The bartender is very chatty and sweet and made me her custom milkshake that is too die for !!!!
The pancake stacks with the dried cherries are on special and were also her recommendation ...
She is doing a wonderful job and it will reflect well on her tip during settlement .
Thank you Gorilla this was a wonderful way to kill some time and spend my afternoon . Cheers .
I will definitely be back next time 🇬🇧
A. L.
Really good service and very tasty food. Atmosphere is good with classic rock music in the background.
To the chef: The Reuben bagel was good, but it's not comparable to the Eat New York version.
A. N.
Went to see the score there, amazing venue
S. J.
Been to Gorilla plenty of times. Latest was Kim Gordon and Mattiel in May. Great atmosphere. Staff there do want to shoo you away straight afterwards so buy your merchandise early or stand you ground and enjoy browsing.
F. R.
Fantastic place to visit for lunch, breakfast or anytime. Their food is delicious and I have it on good authority that the chicken and waffles is amazing. Sadly, we didn't book in for breakfast and so couldn't eat there that morning as they are clearly successful at what they do. Lovely people, customer service top notch, same for food and if you're in larger group they'll be great with their hospitality. Wholeheartedly recommend Gorilla but be sure to book if you're in a group. I'll be returning 👍
D. L.
Really nice, laid back place and atmosphere. The staff are friendly and chatty. The food and drinks were amazing and so tasty. Only nitpick was that the service was a bit slow, but everything else top marks.
A. C.
The service was quick and friendly. Price of the food is very good for the quantity of food you get and it’s all presented well. I had the fried chicken and “waffles” minus the egg. The waffle was more of an American style pancake, the overall dish had a very smokey taste to it but ultimately it was lovely.
P. W.
Eggs benedict with sausage and hash browns. Very tasty, good serving and even better at half price in Jan. Also had Sticky Toffee Pudding, bit of a small serve but probably better for the waistline.
C. H.
Had a great night here. We were easily able to get a spot with a good view and decent sound. The bar staff were quite nice too!
L. D.
Full English is proper nice, unique ingredients... I'm a right fat bstd and if there's one thing I kkow my way around its a fry up... This one, especially the slow roasted hash, was absolutely amazing! 😎
A. M.
Pork roast and bloody Mary’s are both spot on!
I believe our meal may have been forgotten but it didn’t matter as it was worth the wait! The pork was tender wish crunchy crackly, sweat home made apple sauce plus more.
The art that went into my Bloody Mary made it up there with one of the best! Everything was spot.
Pretty expensive all up but think it is worth it! Get in early to beat the crowds, this place fills up quickly
D. D.
Good food. 50% off for January which was nice. Latte was very very good and find myself craving since. Only downside was being on a small table in the middle and waiters wandering past bumping into you often. Highly recommend for brunch then a wander around Manchester for afternoon drinks.
K. b.
Had a brilliant time there watching the men they couldn't hang and the supporting act was brilliant to
J. P.
This is a great live music venue - small enough to be intimate but big enough to not feel crowded. The sound quality is also very good. Pictures from "The Thurston Moore Group" 13/06/17
S. B.
Only went to eat there. They asked to book at least 24 hours in advance if I can, but only confirmed the booking two hours before the time I had asked to book for. My friends asked for tea but the mugs were unclean. They asked for new mugs, and.... they were a tad bit unclean too. Better than the previous ones though. The positive aspect was the food. It was delicious and the hot chocolate was good too
I. L.
Nice cocktails. Great service. Okayish venue. A bit rude bouncer.
D. B.
Great venue, friendly staff and a good atmosphere!
A. V.
Great spot for brunch. I had the royal full English with black pudding (the best I've had in a while) and it was glorious. Friendly staff, good coffee and good soundtrack. I'm told it gets busy so book a table.
O. G.
Didn't have a great breakfast here. Service was nice; pleasant but a bit slow. Food was so-so; unripe avocado on burnt toast (which they volunteered to take off the bill 👍), salty ham hock eggs benedict (not complaint worthy but not to my taste), steak and eggs was good!
G. H.
Food was good and staff were really friendly, great relaxed vibe. drinks were a bit Pricey but that's city centre for you.
J. a.
Food was good and tasty. i ordered the chickpea with tomatoes and sour dour. Their hot chocolate was yummy not overly sweet just perfect.
Server was friendly and i will definitely come back again.
K. K.
I attended a brilliant intimate gig here on Monday 13th August- Gabrielle was excellent and it ended up being one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
The venue however was truely BOILING hot- people were moving to behind the stage (where they couldn't see Gabrielle!) just to stand by the exits and get some cool fresh air.
The venue is amazing for small gigs where the sound is great and everywhere has a good view but the place desperately needs AC which works better, it was super uncomfortable in there.
p.
Excellent smaller-sized venue in a great part of Manchester, right across the road from The Ritz. Great bar at the front and gig venue at the rear.
c.
Had lunch here last Monday, the food is always good but this time I had a chicken sandwich. This was the best chicken sandwich (burger) I think I’ve ever had.
Service is also good, although it can be difficult to get a table at peak times. Drinks can get expensive if you’re having cocktails outside of happy hour which is 5-8pm daily.
C. G.
Amazing venue, seen so many fantastic gigs here - not been here for food or drinks so can't speak on that, but the main bar/restaurant area looks like a nice space.
s. m.
Sent to see a gig here. Had hot chocolate in the bar area beforehand and was very nice. Venue for the gig was fab
A. L. G.
My favourite bar in Thessaloniki, amazing hospitality, incredible drinks, fantastic concept
J. D.
Really nice breakfast with excellent service and attention. The venue was pretty cool and relaxed with very professional & friendly staff.
The quality of the ingredients is clearly top notch. Sausages were meaty and sizeable and I asked for streaky bacon which was to perfection.
Overall I think the breakfast was one of the nicest I've had for a long time.
I would encourage this venue to open during weekdays as the usual brekky places have been going downhill and people like me will hunt down nice venues that serve a great quality fry-up.
B. W.
The gig venue only. Didn't stay upstairs. But the gig venue for MPF was just what was needed for a return to live punk music. Hot, loud, a little grimy.
N. S.
Loved manchester punk Festival
Sadly drinks were sold out way to soon!
Nice security and bar people
M. Y.
Bar with good vibes to chill out at night.
K. E.
Really enjoyed our meal here. Ivan, who served us, was fab!
- Great central location
- Good table sizes
- Good music selection, but far too loud
- Generous portion size
- Great quality ingredients
P. N.
Great place, not massive inside but great for intimate gigs... Didn't go in the bar at the front but looked busy. Will go again, good atmosphere and acoustics were good too. Nice bar and pleasant staff. Will try main bar next time.
A. W.
Really nice food and the drinks were pretty good! Service was great as well
P. W.
Awesome little bar serving great food next to a beautiful little gig venue
S. B.
Probably one of my favourite venues, get there early for a gig and treat yourself to food.
D. H.
Nice venue for watching live music up close and personal with the band friendly bar staff
W. T.
The Royston Club getting better and better at these venues. Great atmosphere, great crowd!!
R.
Really super friendly and polite staff, enjoyed a delicious vegan full breakfast in a nice trendy place.
G. C.
Nice chilled out place. Different age groups in there, friendly staff and would happily recommend to others.
B. W.
Good vibes, good prices, went to a gig here and it's a great venue
J. H.
Nice evening at Gorilla, food was good. I enjoyed the chicken burger and my friend also enjoyed his bagel, I did feel the price was a little high for the portion size. Reasonable selection of drinks. The service was good but I am not sure I would be rushing to go back for an evening meal, there was no stand out factor but overall very nice.
V. M.
Staff very helpful, helped me find my temporarily lost mobile phone
D. C.
A very good small venue, the sound was great and despite it being mega hot outside it wasnt bad at all in there thanks to the blowers. They've got 2 bars and easy to reach toilets. Theres also a small raised area with seats but you don't really need them as the stage is a good enough height that you can see the band from any where. All in all the best small music venue in manchester.
S. M.
Saw ocean Alley there. Reasonably priced beer for a club, expensive compared to a pub.
Would be nice if the did cashback at the bar to make it easier to buy merch
z.
Really loved this venue. Hadn't been before and was happy to find it was a small intimate place. Stage is nice and high so you can see the acts no matter where you are.
s. l.
Fantastic venue and drink were amazingly priced will be back
M. D. L.
Good sound but the stage isn't too high so it's hard to get a decent view if you're not tall or near the front. There is a balcony at the back but it's not huge. Get there early if like me you're a bit vertically challenged.
M. W.
5 stars! Bright helped out my friend when he needed it, I cannot give enough thanks to the man! Bright is the man!
h. “.
Security staff were wonderfully accommodating and friendly at last night's gig. I use a walking aid and I was reassured that if any time I needed a space to sit a space would be made available. Very thoughtful and kind.
The venue itself is fab! The sound quality was much better than the academy (although it's some years since I last went) and the stage design is really unique.
G. L.
People around us had been waiting for up to 2 hours for food which put us off wanting to order. We did however order and the food arrived in reasonable time. There were a few issues with the wine we ordered and with the final bill but it was eventually sorted.
D. S.
Came here for a gig, Louis the Child.
The venue was perfect. Like a Basement under the Railway Tracks. When you drive by it during the day it just looks like a locked door, but at night it comes alive.
The sound was amazing. Love the backdrop to the stage, looks like old machines, really cool.
2 bars if I remember correctly selling standard drinks for a music venue. Drinks were a bit pricey but noting extortionate.
10/10 would recomend.
P. M.
Gorilla is one of the best places in Manchester to see a band.
G. T.
Discovered this place by accident, waiting for the queues to go down for a The Hunna concert at the 02 Ritz across the road.
Cocktails were well made and very good value at just £5 (between 5 and 8pm). Gorilla enjoys a nice atmosphere and crowd in a cool setting.
The food that was coming out looked rather tasty but we haven't tried it ourselves yet unfortunately.
A. C.
A really nice and intimate venue. Unfortunately to keep the venue cool they have several large fans that create a whine that is noticable when the music gets quiet.
S. W.
Went here tonight for the first time good food nice place to have a drink it is expensive put it good staff are nice xxx
R. G.
Cosy place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good food and good beer recommendations. Pork sunday roast was so juicy and tender! Wish i had the stomach to try all the items on the menu.
P. E.
We had a really great meal, service was friendly and attentive. We hadn't booked, and we seated at first near the door on a two seater in the middle of the room, it got a bit too crowded, but the staff opened up another room and let us move into there which was great.
We enjoyed the food and the bar and then went to a brilliant gig in the back room and saw Beans On toast play, in a really good venue
We will definitely be back to Gorrila soon
A. D.
Have been here before and really enjoyed the food but came again recently and the food took a really long time to arrive and was not particularly hot or very nice when it did. We used a mcr confidentials voucher so only paid half or we would have more likely complained.
The drinks selection is good and the staff were really friendly though, but doubt I'll come here for food again.
T. B.
Cool place. Very trendy. Food was ace. Recommend booking a table this place get busy!
h. k.
Second time visiting the UK as an American and this was the best full English breakfast I’ve had! So good :)
J. B.
We come here every year for MPF. Its the best sounding venue, great size and layout. Worth mentioning that it has the smallest toilet cubicles in the world so be careful you don't get stuck 🤣
M. W.
Great spot for breakfast! Awesome decoration, tasty food. Gets busy but grabbing a seat by the bar shouldn't be a problem. Extremely nice staff.
S. H.
Not very large venue, but they pack a hell of a lot of people in there, so if a popular act is on be prepared to be hot and cramped.
The layout is ridiculous because you've got to get to the front and squeeze around the stage to get to the loo. There's a bar back there too, but unless you're feeling mighty rich and aren't fussy about what you drink you might want to give it a miss and use one of the others where there at least are draught options.
The venue likes to make you queue outside until acts are on the verge of starting and kick you out immediately at curfew so that they can quickly get their club nights started.
D. a.
Food was very good and we loved the music.
K. O.
It's one of my favourite place to go for work lunch , their lunch is amazing ! I had it at least twice in a month already ! Highly recommend:)
A. I. T. J.
Awesome venue. My best night ever in Manchester lol
H.
The chicken and waffles were incredible! My Singaporean friend claims it's the best English breakfast he's ever had. Friendly and helpful staff. The finest brunch experience. *****
N.
Grabbed some food before a comedy show. Honestly it was the tastiest burger I've ever had!! Staff are really friendly and it's was really quick service. Wish they had a restaurant in my town.
Thanks guys, I'll be back 👍
T.
Great all day breakfast, loved the french toast. Everything arrived promptly too and the staff were kind and made me feel at home. Very nice place for food and drink. 100% recommend
F. D. G.
Amazing service, great place, and the food was lovely but the portions were a bit too small for what you pay. Left the place a bit hungry
C. L. g.
Amazing place! Food was absolutely amazin and is long time i don't have a good bloody mary like this one 😍 Hot dog was really good and trust me is lot of food i love it.
Perso try halloumi starter is very nice and you will be not disappointed 😀
c. y. c.
The all day breakfast is the most delicious that I have ever tasted
T. O.
Great intimate gig venue. Little overcrowded last time I went, to the point that moving to the bar was a mission but I would definitely recommend seeing a gig here.
H. Q.
Really had an awesome experience... I wanted a bit of 2 different meats and didn't mind paying extra for it..the chef told the waitress to let me know he would grant my request without me having to pay the extra 😊
I felt special 🤩 I knew the roast was not going to dissapoint due to this kind gesture and guess what, it was amazing 😉 THANKS CHEF!!
D. F.
An absolutely magnificent monster of a breakfast...the sausages were excellent. Superb FoH staff. Highly recommend if you're nearby.
j. l.
Went up to see deja Vega amazing band amazing venue packed to the Rafters
B. C.
Great small music venue ,bands very up close and personal love it.
C. M.
Staff were lovely, very helpful and the food & drink was beautiful
P. H.
Great little venue. Good sound. Not a long queue at the bar. Would go again for sure
j. s.
Good event for bands and food
If you want 5stars then you could do a deal with people that have tickets to a gig and are eating there and is also an incentive to people who go to the gig also eat there
Me and my wife went to massive wagon and the Buzzcocks but only add food when went to the Buzzcocks but we had eaten out both nights ??
S. T.
Spent our wowcher voucher here £9 for 2 breakfasts. You could of had a full English but we chose smashed avocado and poached egg and Hot smoked salmon also with poached egg. They took awhile coming but tasted as good as they looked
L. C.
Super staff. Great breakfast and the supper is excellent too. Best to book at this time of year. Check out their gig guide and enjoy!!
20.01.20. We popped into town on Saturday for a mooch... reserved our table for an early supper. He couldn't see passed your BLT and I tried your Shawarma which was fab. We left enough room to share gorgeous creamy ice cream. Chilled music. Lovely staff. See you in March!
T. S.
This is a fun bar with ample space, great location, staff more than able to serve you up a good quality cocktail for a reasonable price in cosy atmosphere.
P. B.
Really liked this venue, it was fairly intimate not too large and staff all seemed really nice. Bar after the gig was a good stop.
S. S.
Great little music venue.
M. R.
One of the best concert venues in Manchester, sell nice IPA in cans, but the draft beer selection is poor
A. R.
Great little venue. Nice bar area and a small-medium sized music venue round the back that has a good variety of acts on.
L. B.
Great food and atmosphere at Disco brunch
M. W.
One of the best bars in town. Laidback atmosphere, good tunes, friendly and approachable staff.
New food menu looks great as well.
Brilliant for intimate gigs
L. C.
Excellent gig venue and a great little bar. Shame you can't take your drink round to the venue!
R. v. J.
Staff were accomodating and friendly, food really hit the spot after a long train journey
T. B.
Great place to eat, friendly staff and dog friendly too
S. P.
Good night's when the Back By Dope Demand events are on specially when Stu Allan is there
g. d.
A good venue for small gigs. The bar gets very busy at weekends. A new menu has been launched in Jan 2022
g. w.
Amazing place the halloumi profiteroles are great. So are the pancakes. Everything from this palace is always spot on. Been here a few times now never disappoints
D. M.
A great place to see a live band!
L. B.
Had to wait a long time for drinks. Our food even ended up coming out first. But the cocktails were nice and the food was nice - pretty cheap and cheerful. Nice atmosphere and then great gig next door afterwards.
J. G.
Bloody brilliant! Made to feel very welcome as I am 48 and still wanting to party the manager and staff were fab. With such a great crowd on the dance floor I had a great night with some great dance music. Would recommend to any dance music lovers. Cheers!
A. M.
Great venue for comedy and music, The beer selection is lovely and I hear the food is great too.
J. N.
Didn't book but still managed to get a nice table for two by the window on a Wednesday late afternoon. Limited choice of happy hour cocktails but both were OK. Food was excellent and arrived quickly. Atmosphere was great, good background music and lots of conversation.

This is a nice place - whether you go for a gig or a drink. The music venue is nice and intimate, not too packed. Friendly bar staff, good drinks and a nice atmosphere. Other than a few visits for food and drink, I went for a gig last year and it was nice to see an artist in a more intimate space. The sound quality was decent, too.
P. H.
Great atmosphere in this intimate venue ❤
Went to see From The Jam play an acoustic set on this occasion, brilliant, and a thoroughly enjoyable experience, No overcrowding, we felt relaxed and safe.
R. J.
Went for brunch. Great menu selection. Highly recommend going just after midday to take advantage of the breakfast and lunch menus all at once. Attentive service, really tasty food, coffee was top. Also a good alcohol selection as it doubles as a bar.
R. D.
Great venue for live bands and lively bar for evening drinks. Had an issue with tickets where the vendor had not acknowledged my order but the bar manager was friendly and quick to sort out on my behalf during the day. Got in no problem that evening. Good bar service and cocktail selection. Not much there, though, for your average ale drinker.
G. D.
This place is just great! Really nice friendly staff for such a big table that we had. Food was served in good time and drinks were delicious. It's the perfect place to eat before a show, either across the road or behind the building! Can't wait to come back 😀
K. B.
Very nice place to enjoy good food and a few drinks.
H. M.
Good food. 50% off for January which was nice. Latte was very very good and find myself craving since. Only downside was being on a small table in the middle and waiters wandering past bumping into you often. Highly recommend for brunch then a wander around Manchester for afternoon drinks.
M. D.
What an amazing gig venue !!!! Really cool place and very easy to get a good view, will be back soon to sample the food 😎
P. S.
Good music venue but the food service was running ages behind.
D.
Really nice beer and meal.

We are OBSESSED with this place. We tried it out for brunch one day because it was near us and we were blown away! My favourite things on the menu are the incredible bloody mary, truffle fries, truffle mac cheese and tofu tacos. They also do a great selection of beers and delicious coffee. Everytime someone comes to visit us, we always take them here and always love it. One group of friends loved it so much they requested to go back 2 days in a row. The staff are super friendly and there are lots of vegetarian options. It also has a lovely atmosphere, especially on Sundays. It has become our regular and I would highly recommend!
K. O.
Friendly staff. Nice busy atmosphere in the bar. Music venue good too!
K. C.
Unbelievable food, the vegan winter salad was absolutely delicious (there is a vegan burger too). Atmosphere was great, music could have been a bit quieter but not an issue. Staff were so friendly! Also on weekdays (including Friday) all cocktails are £5 from 5pm until 8pm and they were lovely. Additionally we got 50% off food (if you book in January you can too!) so it ended up being a bargain!
S. W.
Great informal venue. Went on a saturday night, had some cocktails, which weren't great, but the atmosphere made up for this. Bar staff lovely. DJ was playing some great indie tunes. This was the greenroom, so has great venue space. Shows films at Halloween and holds special events. The food is good. Gets really busy at the weekend but there was no bother.
S. B.
Beer was nice the room could have been bigger very crowded band was very good.
G. J.
Excellent place for a small gig 👌👍🏻
J. S.
In the Gin Bar the seating all around the bar makes it difficult to order a drink, but was going to see a band so only had the one before going into the venue.
In the venue itself there are 3 bars so you dont have to wait around. Great place to watch a band and for me just the right size.
V. K.
We were unable to eat in our hotel as the restaurant closed.. when the pointed us to this bar I was really sceptical... but the staff were exceptional. The chicken tenders amazing... the food was spot on and the sticky toffee pudding generous and delicious. Wednesday evening do not too busy but a lovely lively atmospheric place.
A. C.
Lovely little bar. Food looked and smelled delicious although we only had drinks. It is a bit pricey for beers in my opinion. Was very busy although it was only a Weds afternoon. Also visited the connecting music venue which was a great intimate space but again drinks were overpriced and also I found the £2 charge to use the cloakroom unreasonably much.
A. M.
The night I went to was not great but the vebu is nice good ventilation and stuff, size is like small for a big event but when packed would be a good rave room. Any member of staff I met were actually sound out from the door staff, bar staff and cloakroom staff. The toilets were a bit messy and wasn't enough for the size of the venue to be honest. Decent central spot could host good events here.
c. b.
Total yum, all the vegan and veggie options available. Very nice.
n. b.
Absolutely amazing venue for live music, so intimate its mental. Would definitely got to many many more concerts here.
P. D.
What a great place . I treated my kids and partners to a pre-concert meal here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As a country dweller approaching 60 a big city can be a little daunting. However the staff and general atmosphere at Gorilla were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the food and drink and then into the band room to see the Slow Show . Great crowd ,polite and friendly. Mind you anyone who likes Slow Show can't be bad .100% good experience.....would return in a heartbeat.
C.
Gig venue is great. There are plenty of bars. I love theme day my they've used the railway arch. This is a very close venue, it holds a good number of people but being in the audience you are always close to the band.
The balcony at the back has a few seats but arrive early of you want one.
Did i mention there are plenty of bars.
S. V.
Disco Brunch is fantastic. Great menu. Great staff
a. k.
Went to a concert last night at this location. I came from another bar which wasn't quite as good as the reviews stated.
It was very busy which is always a good sign. I did research the place prior to visiting and knew that there were a couple of keg beers as well as cans (craft ales).
Got served quickly but I once I had a pint in my hand I realised that you couldn't sit at the tables unless you were eating.
The seats by the bar were all full. This is fine if you were aware of the limited seating and are prepared to stand and hold onto your pint until it's finished.
Went into the room where the concert was held and went to the bar to discover that all 4 keg beers were not working. Talking to the staff this wasn't a one off situation. The alternative was to buy the more expensive shorts or very expensive cans of alcohol.
All in all it's not for me. I feel that because the place is busy they feel that there no need to make any changes. I think that if people know about the lack of seating/surfaces (to place your pint), they can make a judgement whether to visit. I also don't like the practice of advertising beer when they're obviously not available and the alternative is usually more expensive.
S. G. -. F. M.
I'm only reviewing it as a music venue, not the restaurant/bar area. Great intimate music venue with a great sound system. Organised and friendly staff but at just under 5 quid for a 330ml can of Brooklyn Brewery lager, maybe do what the kids do and grab a 4 pack from Sainsburys to drink before you go in...
S. B.
Another new place found with a cheeky January discount, fab breakfast and we will be back again! Thank you 👍
L. L.
Lovely and welcoming, and the food was so nice. We only had cheese on toast but it was the best cheese on toast I've ever had! The staff were very friendly, even though it was quite busy and we didn't book. Would definitely recommended to anyone and everyone.
S. P.
Great music venue and bar. Saw Betsy there, she won't be playing small venues soon. Bound to be arenas.
C. L.
Delicious brunch of eggs Benedict and eggs royale X never had it with roast salmon but it was better than smoked salmon X
T. E.
Awesome venue with a great sound tech!
A. A. S.
Yes , lovely place to eat in
L. M.
Breakfast here is amazing. Staff are always friendly. Coffee is good too x
R. O.
We tried tacos 🌮
Fish and chicken wasn't our cup of tea
But burgers was very tasty & a good size
Staff very nice
B.
Went to the Kevin and Perry night. Was awesome. Sound system was great as was the lighting and co2 cannons, for the Ibiza club feel. Drinks were the standard Manchester prices and thankfully not Ibiza prices! Door staff were probably the best I've ever come in contact with. They were friendly and helpful with no steroid induced attitude problem. Would love to visit in the daytime and try the food and will be back for another night out asap.
A. C.
Awesome venue, great acoustics and low lying stage for good viewing. Great drink selection, especially the Shindigger beers. Very much enjoyed the night, I've been before and I'll be back again for sure! One of Manchester's best smaller venues.
J. A.
Went to see a gig here and was pleasantly surprised by the small intimate venue. Perfect size, not too large and not too crammed. Decent sound systems too and the booze is standard bar prices, not like £6 a pint like some other venues.
S. S.
nice live music venue, drinks prices were decent and the staff were nice. enjoyed seeing beabadoobee here :) however it’s lowkey confusing that there’s 2 bars and you can only get water at one of them, there’s also no barrier so if you are in the front row during a high energy song then your ribs will get bruised af lol.
f.
The place to go on a weekend for brunch. The food is very good, with a wide array of choice (mostly American/English style food) and a selection of specials (the Sunday Roast is a definite must). Service is always relaxed, friendly and just the right level of attention. The decor and atmosphere are relaxed and quite stylish without being try-hard.
I can tell I like this place as it is the first place I think of when a group of friends come to visit for drinks/dinner/breakfast on a weekend.
I also like that they value regular customers (like myself) with free drinks and discretionary discounts.
Little to criticise really, I love the place.
If you have a group of hungry friends (esp. if they want cocktails) on a weekend then this is the place to go (though I would book as it is often busy),
C. K.
Great venue for bands, plenty of atmosphere and central.
J. H.
Such a lovely experience here. Breakfast was absolutely beautiful.
Sausage and black pudding were amazing and the orange juice tastes SO fresh 👌
Also had Pain Perdu, boozy and sweet and altogether yummy.
GO HERE FOR BREAKFAST ITS AMAZING!
T. B.
Went here on a Saturday afternoon and the place was buzzing. Very busy but well staffed, you will generally need to book ahead for a table as it's not a huge place. The beer choice was excellent and well kept.
Menu choice is simple American diner style but the food is fantastic. Even thinking about the lamb burger now is making me want to go back again immediately.
L. C.
Great atmosphere and kind staff. However, my girlfriend and I waited 40 minutes on 2 slices of toast with banana and a stack of pancakes which is quite appalling. When I asked where the food was it came 2 minutes later and was cold, it had clearly been sitting out for over 15 minutes and was forgotten about. The food itself was quite average. My girlfriend spent £10 on a rather stingy portion of toast and my pancakes were drowned with orange zest to the extent that I couldn't finish it.
It's disappointing as we came from Glasgow to attend a gig in the same venue. The gig was great although the food was underwhelming and over priced.
A. L.
Great little place with nice food and drinks. Love the industrial decor and the wooden cladding over the arches ceiling. Hip Motown classics playing away in the background. Really nice to just chill. However, service is a bit slow and it gets rather warm on the top floor. Still a neat place to bring friends too.
h. t.
We found ourselves in here when we were let down by black dog ballroom.
Despite being busy, and happy to eat seated at the bar, we were quickly found a lovely little booth upstairs.
Due to a huge influx of hungry people the wait on food was around 45 mins however this communicated to us early on, and actually our food came considerably quicker!
Staff were lovely, despite being busy, all had time for a quick chat, enquiring about our plans and offering useful opinions.
The food was fabulous as we're the milkshakes, and we were able to also get delicious (and spicy) bloody Mary's that weren't on the menu!
Thank you for a really great experience guys.
S. S.
This is a good spot for drinks and food in a lively atmosphere and with a good view of the busy street outside - resourcing of your can get a booth in the window. There is a gig space ring the back (separate entrance under the bridge) so it can be busy when a band is about to play. Good burgers. Wines by glass and bottle. Good selection of beers. Friendly staff.
P.
Really enjoyed lunch here. Staff were friendly and the place had a nice vibe.
Arrived just before noon and a few people were still having breakfast ( served to noon).
We all ordered steak frites and though there was a mix up with sauces the steaks were nice. Only problem was 3 had a large amount of chips and the other very few.
Neck oil was on draft, so all in a plesant afternoon.
Will go again.
T. C. S.
Bloody Mary looked pretty but I've had better flavour. Huge brunch menu. Halloumi fries were interesting with pomegranate seeds and molasses, but a bit soggy. Was very busy on a Saturday, recommend booking.
J. E.
nice venue aesthetically and the staff are friendly, but the drinks are really expensive (heard a guy pay £3 for a bottle of plain water) and the toilets are.. off putting. if you are an average sized person or bigger go to the toilet before you go as there's no way you'll be able to maneuver around the stalls
N. L.
Great small venue... perfect for a scrappy rock band!
M. M.
The food is ok but very heavy. Far from being healthy. They have very good taste in choosing the music although I have been at lunch time and it was so loud that was very difficult to talk with the other people at the table. The mezzanine is also very dark even during the day. The selection of food is fine but not original.
P. F.
Great little spot next to the music venue or opposite The Ritz. The burgers here are really decent. Perfect for filling your belly prior to drinking at the gig :)
K. P.
Really cool place, does a great vegetarian black pudding! Warm and friendly staff - great vibe. We payed by contactless though and never carry cash. I think the card machines should give you an option to add a tip!
J. F.
Excellent bar to spend time in.
A. E.
Good music venue with great bands playing regularly.
N. A.
Went for a bite to eat before a gig across the road. Arrived and we're seated, possibly the most unstable table it was swinging everywhere.
After trying to get attention of waiter we were moved. That table was much better but we were ignored for another 20 minutes before they took order. After that though food arrived really quickly and was tasty.
Just a side note it's not that friendly for nut allergy sufferers. (both myself and partner are but we did find something tasty to eat).
Service slow but atmosphere is good as is the food.
E. W.
Great live gig venue. Saw Tom Clarke last week and had a brilliant night.
M. G.
Really good venue, perfect for those small an intimate gigs. Prices are reasonable. With this place being under the Train line you will struggle to get phone reception in it. Which is good when it comes gigs, not so much if your need/want to send information to the outside world quickly,
Also stops outside world interrupting!
D. W.
Nice beer, nice drop off before theatre
J. P.
Great food and a large drinks menu. This place is great if you have a gig at the Ritz or Gorilla itself. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Gets really busy so dont always expect a table or seat however, it is definitely in a great location with plenty to offer. Highly recommended.
K. T.
I have been for a fair few gigs at this place and never disappointed. I decided to eat here and there where only a small amount of vegan options however me and boyfriend decided to have the two options and we both loved them! I could have easliy had it again. Would definitely recommend for gigs, drinks and food!
D. B.
A truly memorable and rocking venue who went out of their way for me (thank you Lau!) great acoustics, good vibe, staff good and very friendly. Good for live music. Gorillas rule!
Highly recommended.
C. W.
Went to a fantastic gig by Samantha Fish. Her band, and the support act were both brilliant. Suggestion though....No soap in the toilets, so the chances of spreading horrible diseases in a gathering of lots of people just multiplied. Not clever, particularly now.
A. R.
A decent venue, but two issues - why is it the gig tickets say doors open at 7pm, but they never let you in till about 7:20 - 7:30? The second issue is with the main bar which is so dark that you can hardly see what they're selling and what you're spending.
A. M.
Great food and drinks. Good atmosphere, relaxed but vibrant and able to get a table without booking. Only downside was the wait to get the bill and pay...for some reason that seemed to be a chore for the guy dealing with us. Everything else was great.
s. L.
I used to love this place a lot. The food is great, but I can’t believe I wait for more than 40 mins for a branch!!! When I asked them to check it for us, they just say sorry we are just too busy. I think it is understandable at the first time, then I kept waiting for another 15 mins. But, I just feel outrageous when I saw other tables who came later than us were served.
I love this restaurant, but still, really won’t come the next time.
C. F.
Great venue, Alex Cameron was awesome!
C. H.
Gorilla always does incredible food with great flavour and serving sizes. The drinks are deeeelicious too. Ever so slightly more expensive than other places who have similar vibes and concepts but I think it well worth it as you know you'll get great food, drinks and atmosphere.
I would definitely recommend booking a table before going especially on a weekend as they're always so busy.
M. H.
Amazing evening. Good food, good music.
g. h.
My Girlfriend and I had the set menu (menu one) and it was amazing, more than enough food for the both of us. Great customer service, so friendly! Definitely coming back.
P. C.
Excellent staff food and wine
M. G.
Decent Sunday roast, if you're looking for that. If not, busy hip place with good beer and cocktails. Good for couples or groups. Big music venue out the back which is a good room to watch gigs in.
T. P.
It had a pretty small menu but the food and service was good. We had a friendly waitress who took our order quickly. I had the le big mag and it was really good. It had a vibrant atmosphere but no live music.
T. B.
This is my second local in Manchester. Other than a nice place to prop up the bar they have a few great gigs on too. Sugar Hill Gang were here the other week (how cool is that?!) and Juicy are playing soon too which I would thoroughly recommend to anyone. The food is good standard bar food, great if you just want to grab a bite while meeting some mates at a bar.
A. G.
A great venue. Just the right size to enjoy a great band like Larkin Poe.
J. B.
Several gigs, not bar/restaurant side. Decent sound but felt herded, overcrowded hot as heck despite ceiling fans for decoration effect apparently. If you want to see your fave artist and don't mind crush and sweat this place is for you
T. B.
Great venue with good vibes and nice beers on offer. They host some of the most exciting upcoming artists from a wide range of musical genres. Great for Manchester
A. W.
The Christmas Turkey sandwich. Omg. Such a tender fillet. I'm told it's usually chicken (and probably doesn't have a sprout on top).
M. C.
Went for lunch with a large party on Saturday including four children. The waiting staff were really lovely, the food was delicious ( I had the hake special, it was off the chart) although we were a large table we still got 50% off the bill under the January offer which was great. The music was good, the bathroom was clean. The only reason I'm only giving three stars is because I was sat on a wooden chair and the top layer, which I hadn't noticed was damaged, broke off when I stood up and ripped my tights and stuck in my leg.
L. T.
Went for breakfast with my fella (who has many Xmas do's! Tight on me!) for my little self composed school hours Xmas do as whatever the modern, less archaic sounding equivalent of a housewife/mum type person is, and what an amazing choice... Haven't been to Gorilla (for food) for years because, well, there's just so much choice in town (and I don't get out much haha) but I'll definitely be making more of an effort to return. We had the steak and eggs and the chicken waffles and not a scrap was left. Poached eggs and steak were absolutely perfect. I managed to easily shift 5x Mimosas, because although they visually look heavy on the OJ, they were absolutely gorgeous, and in fact, heavy on the prosecco which is rare when a lot of places are a bit stingy hoping you won't notice! Service was lovely, vibe was cool, thanks for a great breakfast :)
A. L.
I came last friday with my friend,
the waiters were very kind especially with my friend, because she has problems of intolerance.
Good food and Great music!
I hope to return soon to find,
I really like Manchester!
A. D.
We went for a gig by Koan Sound and we were welcomed with open arms . The staff did everything possible to accomodate myself {in a wheelchair} and my PA . Firstly in the bar downstairs for a really pleasant and well prepared meal before being taken into the club/event room to an area where I could see and enjoy the atmosphere as much as possible . I cant thank the team enough along with a mention for a Worker named Em who helped sort everything out and a security worker named Zoe who made the event as comfortable as possible and made sure no-one banged into my chair .
The venue and sound quality was amazing , such a great black box event space with a reasonably priced bar too .
Definetly would recommend for brilliant food and a great atmosphere but especially for the events
hope to enjoy more events in the future
R. G.
Friendly bar near Oxford Road station, with a great selection of food and warm atmosphere.
The beer choice is slightly limited but plenty of cocktails on offer.
Can be a little noisy downstairs, but there's some extra seating upstairs.
V. S.
Gorilla is such a certainty, good people and good food not to mention one of the best espresso martini in town. It's fairly busy at all hours so a reservation is a must and a good Sunday roast is not supposed to be skipped here. I wish I took more picture of the food and drinks I've been having here.
L. M.
Good small venue. Get up close and personal. Central Manchester location. Recommended
D. K.
Love this venue, although i did pay £4 for a pint of coke on draft. Small sized venue, probably has max capacity of 300-500. Excellent alternative to the Manchester Academy's for smaller shows.
s. f.
Great small venue . Watched Copey perform on Saturday night . Good eyelines and acoustics . Bar staff friendly .drinks reasonably priced . Exit not too lairy. Are you watching Liverpool arts club ?
B. C.
I've only ever been here to see a live band play, however I had two drinks a rum and coke cost £4.50 and a can of beer was £4! Pretty ridiculous to be honest. Easy to find and as a live venue it's OK. There are better venues in Manchester with better priced drinks to boot.
N. S.
Perfect venue, big enough for the atmosphere and small enough to be intimate. Love it
C. R.
Went here for a gig. Pre-booked disabled seat upstairs which turned out to be a good idea as it was packed downstairs. Friendly doorstaff. Enjoyed the gig. Didn't get to the pub part but it looked fine and I'd give it a try in future.
J. F.
This is a great bar to get some drinks at with friends or alternatively sit down for a relaxed meal. Good for a date or a group of friends. The food is quite good and reasonably priced. The service was great as well.
A. W.
Amazing! Secret Kylie gig! Managed to bag some vip tickets from on of her amazing team. Met her 4 times now she is so down to earth and was asking us when we were getting married as we talked about meeting each other at her show 10 years ago!
A. C.
Nothing fancy just a small intimate venue. Get to see artists up close.
P. W.
Many people seem to go for the evening and the entertainment, but this is a brilliant place for a leisurely weekday lunch. The Full English Breakfast was as full as it promised (and as filling) and the staff were willing to make all the alterations I requested - omit beans, extra mushrooms, cold toast rather than hot buttered, with marmalade please...fussy customer, no problem. The house-made hash browns were incredibly tasty, unique to this place, and I'd go again for them.
The whole environment reflects the industrial heritage of the area in a classy way.
My only small recommendation would be don't rely on it for a fast business lunch as the service, whilst friendly, efficient and thorough, is "leisurely". You wouldn't be in and out within a working lunchtime hour. But I had time to spare and would happily go again.
L. N.
Amazing food, beer, atmosphere and service. This place sorted us out so well for lunch before our day out in Manchester that we came back next day for breakfast. Highly recommended.
J. L.
Gorilla is a great combination venue right in the heart of Manchester. They have rooms for hire, a great gig/club space and an unusually designed bar and restaurant layout nestling under the railway arches of the Preston line.
The bar is an impressive central square you can sit around on three of the sides, with a range of drinks on offer, from standard lagers through to house cocktails and all points in between.
There is a small restaurant space on a mezzanine above the bar but the menu is served throughout the venue, regardless of where you are sitting. The whole space is pretty cosy and effectively lit for a chilled vibe.
Food-wise, the offering is wide ranging from breakfast through to snacks and salads with their dogs and burger menu playing a starring role. I've eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. The service is quick too.
Gorilla does what the Trof group does well, combining music and food in great venues. Sometimes perhaps too well - watch out for the walls rattling in the bar during a gig!
Highly recommended.
D. G.
Booked a table before the theatre literally 3 minutes away. Ordered a mixture of the small plates absolutely scrumptious. Relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff
J. S.
Excellent bar & venue under the Oxford Road railway station arches. The food is especially good (I'm a fan of the hot dog), but make sure to take notice of the specials board, because some of the best things I've had here have been up there.
W.
Great atmosphere. Great steak. Quite expensive food menu with very limited selection. Very loud, I'd say more suited to people wanting to drink rather than dine as difficult to hear each other over the table
g. t.
Cocktail bar vibe not my usual vibe but decent tapping bar. Was on the night I went anyway 😉
J. Q.
Extremely helpful staff, particularly regarding food allergies. Brilliant customer service. Staff member really took the time to understand specific dietary needs. First class! Great food too! Thank you.
C. R.
Great place, great vibez, friendly staff
S. W.
I had xmas dinner and breakfast here. Reserved online and this process was very easy. For xmas dinner we pre-ordered our options and this was confirmed by the staff when we arrived. I liked the venue and choice of music. The food was served just at the right temperature for me, I really dislike food that comes luke warm but here it was perfect and tasted divine.
For breakfast the pancakes are thick and fluffy, with extra crispy bacon. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
D. Z.
Amazing venue, great staff & food!
M. B.
Great food- great atmosphere ❤️
T. M.
Great little venue, and plenty of bars to choose from.
K. C.
Came with the other half for breakfast. Decor was very industrial and kind of reminded me of a American diner. Waiting staff were patient and attentive, although it took a while to get the bill. We ordered the royal breakfast with extra black pudding and were surprised at the portion sizes. Although a little greasy, everything was cooked well and tasted good.
A little weird of warning though. Their coffee has a nice aromatic taste, but you'd need to get past the initial sour hit (a bit like Nero, but tastier).
t.
Food is good. Service is slow. Full drinks order just got forgotten. Most places would have given the drinks on the house considering we'd more or less finished our meal before we got them.
i. c.
Really big, it has cloak room and different bars on the two floors.
Suitable for concerts of quite big bands
A. T.
Great gig venue however alcohol is too expensive
R. I.
First time I've been to this venue easy to find well organised had a great night
N. S.
The Gochuchang chicken burger was the best burger I've had in ages. Staff were polite and quick and food didn't take long. Definitely going back...probably for another of those burgers!
a. w.
Went to see the Spector gig and decided to book a table before the gig . Food was amazing nice clean area staff very helpfull couldnt be more friendly and polite . The venue for the gig was fantastic nice and clean toilets, helpfull staff good access to the bars . I would like say a big thankyou to the lady who was the manager on the night she was fantastic couldnt of been more helpfull . All the staff etc should be very proud of what they have at the gorrilla. Cant wait to return for my next gig . Thankyou.
k. k.
Tasty grub at a decent price too (just over £10 for food and a soft drink). The chicken kebabs are really delicious as the meat is really tender. Usually quite busy on the weekend so get there early for food. Gorilla usually has pretty decent gigs on, they get booked up early, so make sure you check out their listings online in advance.
I. W.
I really enjoyed the vibe at this spot, and the menu features a strong variety of international faire alongside burgers and British classics. I enjoyed the burger, which is prepared simply but very satisfying. My partner's Shakshouka was excellent and the battered eggplant fries we shared are definitely worthwhile. We waited a few minutes longer than expected to place our order but the young & stylish staff were still genuinely friendly and attentive.
P. O.
The gig venue round the back is a fantastic intimate show were ever you are stood. The drink prices are a joke. A soft drink (for all res drivers) is served in a cup similar to a dentist's mouth wash, it'll cost you the price of a beer too?. The bar by the stage doesn't serve water for some reason, so if you are close to the front you have to make your waytkbthe back. Next time I'll go without a drink. If you go, whatever you do, go easy on the layers, it gets very hot and stuffy fast. The AC is average.
Z. E. B.
Bar with upstairs space and hall, with its own smaller bar out the back for gigs etc. Visited for a comedy event early evening and the vibe was relaxed and low-key with a slightly studenty feel and friendly staff.
Had a fantastic evening and will keep an eye out for comedy and music events at this cracking little venue.
L. T.
The place is ok, I have never really had a bad time there like other reviews state. Some of the drink drinks are a bit expensive for what you get but they are not bad and the food has always been acceptable to me.
My major concern is the poor advertising for some events. I often feeling like it is pulling teeth to find out about events, a few were cancelled due to lack of interest but I never saw anything for that event. A retro games night I went to was fun but the food they served was awful for the price and I had to wait nearly an hour for a burger. I can only assume this is the fault of event organiser rather than Gorilla it self. I
A. K.
Gorilla's a bit of a hipster bar with wine served in tumblers (not so good if you take your mum who expects her wine served in a wine glass) and tea towels for napkins. The atmosphere is chilled, the food is great and the espresso martinis are amazing - if not a bit pricey. Apparently the Sunday lunches are one of the best in town but I'm yet to try them! It's perfect to go for a few sophisticated pre-drinks before a gig at the Ritz (which is bang across the road) or a bite to eat before going to the cinema (the cornerhouse is just around the corner).

A great smallish music venue that can get hot and sweaty for the right band. The sound is always good and has a selection of interesting musicians. Food is great here too, have a burger!
A. W.
I saw Lambchop here on my own and was pleasantly surprised at the venue as I’d no idea what it would be like. It seemed like the music area and the food place are in different parts of the same building. There are a couple of bars in the music room. The supporting artist and the main attraction were on a small stage in the middle of the venue and the audience were close so it was an intimate performance, and not too loud. I enjoyed it but can imagine it gets warm in summer. Fortunately It was okay when I was there in August. I thought the toilets were a bit cramped but I am 6’ 3”! I didn’t feel unsafe when I was here on my own as a male either. I’d go back if someone I wanted to see was appearing here.

This was honestly the best roast dinner I've ever had in Manchester and service was amazing. Yorkshire puddings were epic! Seriously talented chefs.
V. S.
I love this place, great little music venue. Staff are fabulous , friendly and helpful without being in your face or too cool for school. The bar is also ace, great food, cocktails and party atmosphere
C.
Love this place. Only been for their emo club nights and the music and vibe is always really good. Security aren't something I normally consider but the security here were really polite! Reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's a bit pricy, and while the bar staff are really good there's just not enough bar space for the capacity so it can be slow. 2nd time we went it was even worse for this because they'd shut the upstairs one!
EDIT: after their really lovely response I have to up it to 5 stars. Responding to reviews with such detail is really good to see, and of course I'll come back! 😀 the stuff I was saying about the bar speed is honestly not a huge issue given how good every other element of the place is. And they do hooch so who cares anyway!
R. P.
My friend had a hot chocolate, which looked so good another friend ordered one, so only about 5 mins apart. The 2nd one didn't look nearly as good - no chocolate chips, smaller mug, and just a plain white mug rather than the fancy black one the 1st arrived in. Also we were put right under the speaker and it was pretty loud, more speakers around the room would probably mean that each one could be quieter. Neither of those things bad enough to complain about but doesn't quite get the 5th star.
However, food was excellent, especially their sausages, good variety of options, plus some tasty looking specials, and really friendly staff. Oh and really nice locally roasted coffee too.
S. B.
Great as a bar and a gig venue! Had some of the best memories of my life at this business. Love the atmosphere and the intimacy of the place, also met a few celebrities here too!
N. U.
Staff were as cool as the drinks :) friendly atmosphere.
The music was loud enough to be heard, but quiet enough that we could still have a conversation.
Would go again!
A. G.
I was at the Pvris concert on 19th Feb 2020. The venue itself is good, very intimate setting which is enjoyable. Disabled seating is very sparse so you need to request is fast.
K. A.
Great dogs and a young persons bar and diner
A. L.
Nice sized gig venue. Beer choice a bit limited but prices were good. Good artist on last night. I'll definitely go back.
R. M.
Was here for a gig(Skinny Lister). Had a great time. Everyone was very helpful.
K. M.
Air con is loud, sometimes louder than the bands but when it's not on, you could die from the heat. The ceiling is tin which reverberates loudly when music is playing which is off-putting. Toilets are cramped.
Good points, however is that the sound engineer on the 2 occasions i've been for gigs has been very good and the use of the Midas desk adds extra Kudos. Lots of drinks available too which is nice as well as the unique central location.
S. D.
Love Gorilla... I frequent this place often when I am in town. A causal dining/socialising place!
Great if you're looking for a nice meal, or just a crazy night on the town - the shoe fits all at this place...!!
Firstly the food - the best beef Sunday lunch I've EVER had! tender beef, rich gravy, red cabbage, massive Yorkshire pudding, suede/carrot mash.. Just perfect... never had a bad experience here..
Drinks can be a little overpriced, don't go here to sample an excellent array of wines, as the list is very limited. A good glass of good red is the only thing missing from the Sunday roast..
Breakfasts are equally as brilliant, the eggs benedict is to die for... and if it lunch or dinner you're after the burgers and other dishes are great also
If you've never been - get yourself there...
U.
Food was half cold, table's were dirty, toilets were dirty, staff were nice but there didn't seem to be enough.
T. W.
It was the 2nd time that I've been here..
The music was Good.. Ticket price was Good.. Drinks are reasonable... BUT I completely forgot just how *Ridiculously* HOT!! it gets in here!
(*Free Water Was Provided Though*)
It just let's it down so much in my opinion because it's unbearably uncomfortable especially at peek times.
S. W.
Great place for a meal and a drink and to see your favourite band
b. h.
Nice mix of polished wood with industrial decor, with decent food and a wide selection of spirits - so far so good.
The coffee is however marvellous - dark with a treacle taste that quickly mellows into a smooth finish, the food is good, but the coffee is divine!
K. P.
Great food, served very quickly. Loud and bustling but we love that vibe. Book for a table and expect some decent prices. Service staff spent more time talking to one another however than actually serving.
C. D.
It's a really nice place to go for a drink, nice music, good people, central location. I can not say the same thing about the food though. I only had lunch there once but the food wasn't sufficient, it tasted good but it wasn't enough to fill my belly :)
T. M.
Great club, fantastic atmosphere, clean toilets! I went to listen to anjunabeats on Feb 22nd. A great night, although my ears were left ringing, likely due to an overdriven speaker system and me dropping my earplugs. That's my only complaint! Will be returning with 'plugs asap!
D. C.
Love this place, always in the UK for 3 weeks every August. Great food, the staff is attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere is chill. Love going here.
L. M.
I have booked this venue out for a private party as well as having a Sunday roast there. The food is awesome and the atmosphere is great. Drinks are a little bit overpriced in my opinion but still a great bar. Good times will be had.
D. P.
My fave music venue in Manchester by far. Always a great selection of lesser known artists in an intimate venue. Some really good ad hoc events throughout the year. On top of all that a nice little bar even when there's nothing special on.
A. R.
Great place to go for a gig. Really intimate. Went to watch Myles Kennedy. Would definitely go again. There is a bar and restaurant attached to the place to which was packed to the rafters so is obviously a popular place to be.
H. B.
Went to a PVRIS concert on Wednesday 19th February 2020, doors were meant to open at 19:00 but didn't open until 19:30. The venue was a bit cramped and the heater was broken.
There were some wires dangling down which may be somewhat unsafe but overall the venue was okay.
W. D.
One of my favourite venues in Manchester. The food is really good, as are the drinks. It's also a great place to see live bands.
M. Y.
Never had food but I've drank in Gorilla quite a lot - and would recommend going for the cocktails alone. The staff are friendly but it can be a bit difficult when it's particularly busy.
Last time we were there they happened to be giving out free pints due to a promotion with a London-based brewery, can't argue with that.
S. B.
Great venue but the beer choice isn't that great and a tad pricey.
R. M.
We we went to the club part of Gorilla which is a great venue. Good selection of beers and good music. I’ve been to the bar and restaurant before and the food has always been lovely!! Brunch menu is awesome
M. E. K.
Gone down hill... Food is more expensive than anywhere else for breakfast/brunch: paid almost 50 pounds for 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees. Type of place where you get charged for the atmosphere rather than the quality of food or service
A. H.
Great little concert venue
A. C.
Nice little venue. The person on the door very helpful.
A.
Nice, rustic and quirky restaurant. We had a nice brunch here with decent smoothies. The service was unfortunately slow although it was not that busy at the time.
J. W.
Don't know if it's the heat, lack of students, or whatever; the atmosphere was not what it has been on previous visits, music seemed droney and some very loud and obnoxious customers, leaning in from outside smoking over our table while slurring and dribbling at their mates...
Roll on September...
S. E.
Awesome food and the friendliest staff I have come across for a long time! Great music too and a singing bar tender when the right track is on! Great fun great atmosphere, great people and great food! Visit this place!!!
D. M.
Awesome venue for gigs
A. W.
Great vibe with nice food and service
m. s.
Great atmosphere, lovely staff and food was fab.
R. B.
A great small venue that has sufficient space for acts to deliver in an intimate atmosphere. Standard bar prices with excellent view of the stage.
V. L.
Food is good, but it's busy and noisy. The staff is very friendly but they get too busy and easily forget what you asked for or disappear when you need he bill. Also quite pricey, though they have some good offers.
P. F.
Great friendly staff and perfect food served promptly
R.
The food was so good that we ended up ordering it twice! We had a great night afterwards watching Baby D at the ministry of sound night in the club. Great place!
P. M.
Fab food, especially the breakfasts, although can be a little noisy at times with live DJs. Great to grab a bite to eat with friends or for a party or night out, but not so good to study or read a book etc.
D. B.
I saw yola here who was fabulous. The venue quirky unusual but clean toilets, a bar where you'd last expect one and great sound. All good here..
r. s.
Good venue...two separate parts, food and booze and booze and gig, enjoyed seeing idles here...sold out! as always limited bar for a music venue seemed decent...(after a few drinks mind)
A. G.
Great little venue for gigs. Friendly staff. Only downside is when I asked for a pint of bitter I was greeted with a blank look and told they didn't sell it.
Maybe this is just for gigs but I just found it strange
S. C.
I was a gorilla on sunday night. Although overall it was a great night, certain things let the night down. The girl serving on the main bar was miserable and rude. Not only that, she short changed me. Think this happened a couple of times looking back. It was only by 50p but happened to my friend twice by the same girl. I imagine if she did that to everybody then she would make a nice little bonus. The 2 guys working on the back bar were great.
N. E.
Very nice food, if somewhat overpriced.
Friendly but not at all efficient staff.
Not personally recommending after my one visit. Will report further should I ever try it again.
J. S.
The staff team were friendly and helpful, food and beer was great. Concert venue is brilliant. Great place
K. R.
Decent venue for a gig. Decent drinks selection. Typical gig prices. Twas busy when I went so it got real sweaty really quick.
W. F.
Nice place, staff were really nice. 1 star knocked off because the only cider they had was the over priced bottles. Sorry folks, but I loves my cider! 😁
C.
We went at lunch time, the glasses on the table needed cleaning. Staff were friendly and helpful but the burgers were burned. I do hear it's better in the evenings though.
J. R.
Good brass bands play. Sometimes
H. R.
Great venue and love the bar but it's a bit weird you don't exit the venue into the bar. Means one of the fire exits has gone and I always enjoyed a post gig pint in there.
d. w.
i attended last night with my 15 year teeny bopper to see IDKhow . the security staff were absolutely fantastic in crowd control, allocation of seats, ( im in slow recovery from cancer and cant stand for very long)but they managed to get me a seat (limited upstairs) and a place for my son to stand near me. the very TALL guy, sorry i didnt manage to get near to his i.d. badge to read the name, was a star and fully understood people management skills. the drinks were a tad pricey (£5 for a pint of coke!)
but the place was relaxed and very well iled as a machined music venue.
the only criticism, and i feel guilty in saying this, was at the end of the night it was led to band interpretation as to if then signed items at the stage door or not (beyond venue control i know) but once people had things signed, they weren't ushered away to give the people waiting behind their chance, which unfortunately left about 80 fans waiting when the taxi arrived for the band. a fine music venue where i'd be happy to return to. keep up the great work. thanks again to the TALL boss of security. give him a pay rise. thanks . thanks for the kind reply and to give the name TOM for your very capable TALL guy. i forgot to add, we watched Idkhow at Leeds Festival only the Sunday before. Hands down
your sound system/ set up was 50% better than the big guys.
Dont worry Gorilla gang, we will be back. thanks again.
B. T.
The food at Gorilla really is restaurant quality, it's a little pricey but totally worth it. Check out the specials, they always have something delicious on offer! The music venue is perfect for clubnights too, Juicy is a fun 90s Hip Hop night
k. m.
Quite a cosy venue for gigs. Prices okay for drinks. Fans in the venue are grimy- made you wish they wouldn’t turn them on.
S. H.
Saw The Bronx tonight (9/6/18) and I was impressed with the venue, draft beer was good, staff i found very polite and punctual. Thank you, keep up the great work
J. E.
Fairly average town centre food place. Food was okay but don't expect posh or fancy. It's just grub and beer.
J. B.
Love this place great atmosphere went with my daughter who also enjoyed it. Food is excellent and staff very amenable like. Great place if going to a local show
S. S.
The bronx were amazing tonight :) a great venue to experiance such a chaotic and loud band the small size make its very intimate and up close.
Also the main bar/ resturant is very smart and the staff were great.
S. H.
I've only managed to sample some of the brunch menu, but I completely recommend the Fried Chicken and Waffles, possibly the best breakfast I've ever had! Would return to Manchester just for that.
s. w.
Brilliant concert stone foundation
K. W.
Seedy little venue. I'm sure some love it. Nowhere to sit in the music venue so no good if disabled. Also lots of steps. Great for student gigs
K. W.
Intimate enough venue, however I had tinitus for a day after visiting.
Also the gig format is arranged too late to increase drinks sales and thus has a negative affect on the crowd
M. S.
Great to get back to live gigs. Fantastic, intimate venue
M. S.
Great service great food...
D. A.
Great place all round. Good food, shakes, cocktails and beers, decently priced. Can get busy but has extra seating upstairs.
a. a.
Great small venue for up and coming bands. Good restaurant and bar as well with a varied menu.
D. B.
Had a wonderful night watching Sophie Ellis Bextor. Security were amazing making sure my partner who uses a crutch got a seat. Well done to a caring team. Looking forward to our next visit.
A. A.
The staff on the night especially the bouncers, were especially helpful and Jeremih's late nights tour sounded incredible, in this intimate setting. We had the best time here and will definitely be back.
S. F.
They do a really good roast dinner at a really good price! Only tried a couple but their cocktails are really good as well. Would go there again.
K. G.
Great cocktails and consistently friendly staff. Would recommend their after work offer which is 2-4-1 cocktails from 5-8 pm on weekdays.
T. M.
Nice bar to chill out with your friends, the bartender was nice and friendly.
O. B.
Great place and really friendly welcoming. Great food and cocktails.
A. B.
Food was amazing. Great atmosphere and music for a brunch. Also saw Simon Rimmer at the table next to us. Will be returning for certain.
C. M.
Awesome place with great staff. Recommend the waffles and chicken.
J.
Went to see arrested development what a gig
J. B. S.
Great venue - Lovely Staff
C. L.
Great great service!! Had a halloumi salad that was amazing!!! It's busy but there is no one waiting to be served cause they are on top of it! Service with a smile. Great atmosphere. Will visit again.
Ṣ. B.
Great place to go with your children. Only thing I dislike are the fog machines, they aren't good for anyone's health I don't think but great fun for both parent and child. Great music in a large space. Child friendly!👌
J. B.
Quite spacious music venue despite deceiving looks from the outside. Topnotch grub too - have previously had delightful eggs benedict, salmon and sausages from here. Not all at the same time! Sunday lunch tends to fill up fast, so get a wiggle on.
p.
Great place and venue for bands and any dj night has great atmosphere as it's a huge arch under bridge also has a few seats in the upper deck at the back of venue where you'll find the bands merchandise on sale and then the bar is underneath this upper seating area, always had a good night at gorilla...
T. H.
Great breakfast and brunch options for that morning after a heavy night
G. H.
Great place for food and beers. Close to Oxford Rd station. Also one of my favourite live venues in Manchester, always a nice friendly crowd.
L. M.
Great as a venue, good bar service
D. J.
I went to the horsemeat disco this weekend and it was one of the best disco nights I've been to. Really big venue. Entry was quite steep but otherwise a great night
M. C.
A small but ok venue.beer prices very extortionate £9.20 for small coke and a jager and coke.
Place had far too many people in the night we went and definatley needs air con fitting
J. M.
Can't tell you what a great night I had last night,, wonderful atmosphere,, chilled, relaxing,, took my 17yrold to see my fav band k flay,, wat a fabulous venue,, amazing food,, great service,, deffo coming back here, very soon😎venue
D. S.
Good music venue. Nice atmosphere and sound good.
h. M.
Popped in for lunch and had the steak and eggs, was very tasty and was steak, two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and two homemade hash browns, the service was great as were the surroundings
M. K.
Love this place. But, I've never actually seen a gorilla. So... don't really understand the name.
I'm a quite literal person though so take this review with a pinch of salt. Unless you actually see the gorilla. In which case, let me know what days etc. Cheers. All the best.
G. U.
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Free Wifi which is always a plus. Good music (rock) played when I went. Drinks a bit on the pricy side, but they have a good selection.
O. P.
Went here for a gig for the first time, the venue was great the staff were lovely and drinks were reasonably priced. Will definitely be going back.
N. D.
Great gig venue pricy refreshments
