Reviews of Horse & Jockey
L. M.
Friendly and professional staff. Nice and clean areas including tables. Lighting on some tables could be a little brighter at the back. The food was 'ok'. Toilets clean and well kept. Dog friendly. Parking is tight around the area. Outside seating area with patio heaters.
E. T.
Love this place, typical pub grub but sitting outside overlooking Chorlton green feeling like your not in Manchester is amazing. Plus really good prices and great staff
J. L.
First visited the H&J in 1990. It has changed a lot since then… but, I still love it! Warm seats outside and very friendly inside .
C. M.
We went here to celebrate a relatives 90th birthday. Wow the food was amazing great choice on menu and as it was a Sunday there was a choice of Roast too
The service was exceptional. We were served by a lovely young lady called Shiv and a very pleasant guy called Dan.
We had a great time and would recommend
this place for food and drinks
Thanks for a wonderful time
J. S.
We love coming to the horse and jockey and welcoming the new menu with open arms!! The bloody Mary ketchup is INCREDIBLE!!!!! Shiv is always super friendly and welcoming, she is very informative and always has a smile on her face! We look forward to coming back again

Lovely surroundings, it's difficult to find pubs with old worldly feels around Chorlton. Very cosy, staff are super friendly and the food and drinks options are varied and traditional. One of my favourite pubs in Manchester, especially Chorlton.
S. H.
Good service, friendly staff and tasty food (although the chips could have been tastier. Wexford chicken recommended. Dog friendly and provided water bowl and treats which went down well.
M. H.
Waitress was polite and helpful. They have a new menu so she was great with answering any questions we had. Food was delicious ;)
D. L.
This is our favourite pub in the whole of Manchester. Not only is it children and Dog friendly it serves the of the best Sunday roast lunch offering. The pub is very family friendly and it has a nice homely vibe. The service is excellent too
My favourite meal is the fish and chips. The fish is fresh and flakes off. Problem is my children eat 3/4 of the fish before I can even begin 😂
P. E.
The famous horse and jockey pub right on the Green in Chorlton Green. Can get pretty busy in the evenings.. food is good and reasonably priced.
P. _.
Beautiful food and beautiful interior. As a local eatery, it has a friendly and cosy atmosphere, has indoor and outdoor seating. The food really speaks for itself in the photos - delicious! I was particularly impressed with my sea bass topped with a perfectly poached egg. Everything was served warm, great service and overall complete satisfaction!

Really nice traditional Tudor style pub with a modern twist. Nice food and drinks. Good prices. On Thursday they do a really cool pub quiz where you have to use your phone as answer board. Great experience. Dog friendly.
J. S.
Really good Holts pub. Excellent beers. Friendly staff. Really nice and welcoming inside. Doing a good job regarding Covid. Top spot in Chorltonville. Great outside drinking area, especially in the sun. Usual Holts food. Decent background music for a change.
H. B.
We were served by Kristina who was very good. We also had the new menu which although was more expensive than we were expecting from previous visits was definitely worth it.
f. p.
Food it's average and expensive. Kids burger very dry and steak and mushroom were burnt.
P.
Staff are friendly, dogs are allowed, The Cloud Wi-Fi available and there's something on the menu for everyone! Both outdoor and indoor I are pleasant and it is a rarity for there to be no tables. In a perfect position for all day sun. And public toilets go, they're fairly clean.
T. S.
Clean and nicely laid out inside. Great staff, parking on Chorlton Green id always difficult. Nice walks through the Ees and by the river close by.
C. P.
Had a lovely evening with friends, props to all the staff as they dealt with a large group with absolutley no issues, gave us a space away from other customers so we weren't too annoying (hopefully) and it was great quick service all night!
M. O. T. M.
Decent pub in a decent location. Olde looking. Literally olde pub in a nice quiet area of a bustling town in South Manchester. The nice side 😉 If you want the historic/ classic look, this is the one in this area
C. G.
Lovely food. The mushroom and stilton starter was amazing and is definitely big enough for lunch.
L. H.
Went for a Sunday dinner as I'd heard a lot about the Horse and Jockey, it seems there's been a management change that has resulted in a drop in standards.
They had no Yorkshire puddings by 3pm and the beef waa so tough I couldn't cut it, you're better off going to an independent pub than here.
P. W.
Great atmosphere very attentive staff dog friendly.
R. L.
After a period of slow service the H &J seems to have fixed the problem and has returned to being a great pub with good beer and a particularly nice roast on Sunday.
C. P.
This is a great pub for a choice of real beer some of its brewed in the microbrewery above the pub. Bill Sharon is fish and chips with mushy peas absolutely lovely well recommended.
h. o.
Very friendly staff great food and drinks we had a lovely afternoon there
J. J.
I love this pub, a true village pub experience in town. It's got historic character, Joseph Holt beer (and food). There's some outdoor seating and a restaurant. I would normally be an easy 4 stars for me though it dropped one on this occasion. It's walk in only for the next couple of weeks and whilst last summer they were meticulous in making customers feel safe it felt like we were an imposition today. The outdoor seating isn't quite comfy for long sessions with friends. I would recommend the pub normally based on past experiences and hope today was just a bad day.
R. C.
Delicious food. And well looked after. VERY busy at weekends though. So I will stick to early doors midweek.😊
G. L.
Nice place, chicken skewers portion small, Pizza to hard, duck leg tastes not that good
B. M.
Bury black pudding very nice. Very cosy and dog friendly pub :)
M. F.
Fab pub, great staff and atmosphere, lovely homely place to socialise
M.
our usual destination of choice of an evening in Chorlton, classic English menu and decent selection of largers and craft beers. Handy before a trip to Chorlton film club
T. B.
One of my favourite places in Chorlton. The trailblazer on tap is insanely good and a lovely place to drink it in.
S. S.
Lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and beautiful steak 😍
C. A.
Pleasant pub and staff very friendly will go again thanks
S. D.
Fantastic spot for a meal or a top tipple after a walk around The Ivy woods and meadows.
D. L.
Great pub but being new years day no food on and very quiet. But usually busy.
D. S.
Nice friendly pub, nice affordable food!
M. H.
Nipped into Horse and Jockey to pick up Xmas menu's. After lockdown it's nice to see H & J is back. I didn't stop to eat today but it looked clean and tidy, the menu looks good and the staff where helpful while I was there. It's on my list of places to come back to.
L. B.
Nice cosy pub, good to meet with friends and catch up
T. U. C. M.
Passed by this beautiful pub garden brilliant you must visit
K. J.
Amazing staff good food 👌 will definitely be going back 😋
J. m.
Nice pub, great location in chorlton green. Pizza was ok decent prices.
S. B.
Only had a coffee outside so cannot comment on food. Lovely staff and lots of tables. Good range of drinks.
n. M.
I stayed very near this pub in the late sixties. It was a good pub then and I'm happy to see it hasn't gone down hill. I remember seeing George Best in it one week night. ( But I think he visited every pub in Manchester regularly??)
T. D.
Such a nice place. Bar staff really friendly, but, if you're paying by card you can't tip them, so carry a few coins for tips, they're worth it. Had a really nice lunch, reasonable prices. Been going here for years.
A. E.
Great. Nice pub. Nice people
J. O.
Great choice of ales and beers, service was excellent. Tables were marked not to use with distancing a priority which made us feel safe. Large and airy space which added to ambience at these 'different and difficult' times 👍
I. G.
Good not great service. Wait a tad too long for drinks on a non busy day. Food is ok . Nothing spectacular but always a nice setting for a relaxing drink. ..
M. C.
Great pub. Slightly low ceilings for the taller man but it more than makes up for it with a great selection of drinks. Ales, IPA and lagers. Great atmosphere and friendly staff always up for a debate over the right & wrongs of mushy peas. Dog friendly and heated smoking area for the smokers out there. If you're in the area its a pub to definitely visit.
A. E.
Gorgeous pub with a lovely view of Chorlton green. It’s fairly big inside with lots of tables. Has a fairly large outdoor seating area also which is gorgeous in summer. They have outdoor heaters for when the weather isn’t so warm. The drink selection is good, though a little pricey. Food menu is good, only thing I’d say is last time I went they had some vegetarian choices but not loads. Didn’t spot any vegan choices but they could have added some since.
e. g.
I went for a meal last night with 2 relatives I tried the cheese and onion pie with chips and peas .it comes with a small jug off cheese sauce.
I really enjoyed it ,a large portion i thought
Definatley value for money ,really tasty
The restaurant wasnt busy ,good service in all
H. M.
Great place for get togerhers. It is pet friendly.
R. H.
Eight of us met for an impromptu meal and the staff were incredibly accomodating. They advised us of the special offers and suggested alternative menu choices to our more gastronomically inclined diners (5 of the party are French!). I didn't realise they have a separate dining area upstairs. All in all a great experience. Friendly staff, reasonably priced food and good atmosphere. Recommended.
M. R. C.
Good selection of delicious dishes. Pleased to find a number of vegan options. And the live music last night (Lewis singing and playing guitar) was excellent.. Staff all friendly and professional. Lost one star for the New Zealand Sauvignon blanc being a bit overpriced by the glass. Oh. Dog friendly too which is a plus.
A. P.
great place and nice beers from tap
Z. W.
A good place to have a drink or light meal. There is a 2 for 1 main dishes early dinner offer for Mondays. Outdoor seating is very nice, environment is vibrant. Dogs are welcomed here, however they do not show any sports matches.
R. M.
Super friendly staff and a no nonsense kind of pub affair. Loved that they were welcoming to dogs. The place is spacious (we arrived with a twin buggy and found a seat immediately) and nicely decorated. The guy taking our order knew the menu well and warned us of relevant allergens. The chef even used an alternate type of burger bun for us because the normal one contained egg. The food was simple pub grub. We had veggie burgers, but regretted not ordering from the wood fires pizza menu!
D. A.
Really enjoyed this little pub.
Has a really good range of brewery lagers and ales.
Was in here with a group of people and there was plenty of space for us to all chat without the pub being empty.
Staff were friendly and service was fast.
Would definitely go back if in the area.
C. C.
Lovely pub, very clean, nice food well priced, outdoor seating area and big welcome for dogs x
D. M.
Went for a family celebration last night, from booking the table to leaving last night the whole experience was first class. Rachel on the phone was very helpful!! Due to us being a party of 12 we ordered in advance, amazingly every order for all 3 courses was correct, unlike many places we've been, the food was lovely and the portions were plentiful. nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and Beks, our main waitress, was very friendly, attentive and helpful. Finally, even the bill was a pleasant surprise, working out around £25 per head for 3 courses inc. a couple or three drinks each. Can't recommend the Horse and jockey highly enough!!!!
K. G.
Food was fantastic and lovley place. Service a little slow, but it was a busy day. Very nice staff.
T. B.
Unfortunately disappointing again. Great bar staff, waiting staff need some training asked twice for cutlery and still ended up sharing a fork! Anyway the food. Starters good but my main, looked great, tasted of little, even the poached egg which should be rich and velvety, well cooked but no substance. Sorry would love to love this place but again just no comparison to others less than a minutes walk!
A. I.
Good food, nice setting
J. O.
Visited this pub today, in a group of five, to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. The surroundings are tasteful and clean; the food glorious and reasonably priced, and the service second to none. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Delightful outing and highly recommended.
V. W.
I felt really safe eating here due to their excellent social distancing measures. The food is always lovely here and they have a couple of veggie and vegan options as well.
S. N. B.
3/4 main menu items were already not available by 7:30pm on a Saturday, BUT the food we ordered was absolutely gorgeous. The young women that served us were really friendly and would have bent over backwards to help us with any requests we had. Pub/restaurant ambience was fab! I would highly recommend this venue for a chilled evening of good food and, in particular, great beers. (In fairness, we had wines on this occasion with dinner but the beers are always good here-multiple visits.) Wines are listed as per grape variery, e.g. "Shiraz", "Chianti", as opposed to actual wines and vineyards. But what we ordered with our dinner was tasty. Highly recommend for a super family/friend group evening. Still massively deserves 5 stars. Thanks:-)
J. G.
I love the relaxing laid back atmosphere and friendly staff at this pub. I also love the fact that we can take our little dog in there. Cosy and friendly ambience and great food. They are also very welcoming to a large group of us who meet there once a month bending over backwards to accommodate us.
s. d.
Location undoubtedly 5/5 but sadly the food and beer ... whilst ok just aren't as special as I think this spot on Chorlton green deserves. Food better at brewski/the Chorlton green/other places on beech road etc, beers better at the beech Inn, fell, strange brew etc. If they sorted this Id not go anywhere else!
C. T.
Went here for a meal, no need to book, just find a table. The service was good despite being busy. Area to sit outside ,there was a BBQ. Great atmosphere in and out. Nice decor . Live jazz band. Food good and imaginative.
L. E.
Decent pub. Friendly staff and ok food.
C. A.
Amazing pub feel. Dogs are welcome indoors which is brilliant! Really friendly barstaff and waiters. And excellent food. Had the quinoa salad, friends had the lasagne and the battered fish burger. All very impressed! Loved it and would absolutely come again!
B. N.
I have been in today had a roast chicken .wow fantastic food and the service was excellent staff very welcoming and friendly
J. S.
Picked this place as drove past and it lookee quaint. Had an absolutely gorgeous roast beef dinner. Was only missing red cabbage but the roasted carrots and parsnips, as well as the rest of the food, was cooked perfectly 👌 happy tummy!
p. m.
Fabulous pub , friendly young staff. Didn't have food but drinks selection and service top notch. Recommended for everyone from young families to business lunch to every occasion. Beautifully decorated inside and outside area equally inviting. Will definitely be back on my next visit to Manchester.
J. D.
Arrived after a 2 hour walk to be greeted by a young man who immediately got fresh water for our dog and pointed us to a nice table. Very friendly service. A great job has been done on the decor and furniture. Good beers and food selection.
S. T.
I've always liked the horse and jockey, lovely food with plenty of choice for veggies and a nice atmosphere. Today I celebrated my birthday here with my family and my dog and the staff were so friendly and welcoming and we all had a great time. Would deffo reccomend for a chilled out relaxed evening :)
C. D.
I've had mixed feelings about the Horse and Jockey for some time. I frequented it often when I lived nearby, as one of my friends insisted on our meeting there, but it never personally clicked for me.
Whilst its mock Tudor front and low beamed rooms with stone floors make it an undeniably attractive venue, there's something missing...possibly atmosphere, value for money, top notch food and good service. Many's the time I've stood at the bar, waiting to be served whilst the staff ignored me, despite the fact that I was often the only customer there. Maybe I didn't look trendy or rich enough.
The food is alright, but is overpriced for what you get. I nearly had a coronary one time when buying two soft drinks and a slice of very ordinary cake.
The outdoor section that faces the village green is pleasant enough, but if you are not tall you may find the elevated seating to the left of the door as you face the pub far too high and your legs won't fit comfortably under the equally high tables because the table legs are weirdly wide.
Since its most recent refurb, I think it's true to say that the place has become somewhat pretentious. Additionally, the transition was not aided when the new owners took the unpopular decision on taking over in 2017 to cease the firework display that the previous owners had put on every bonfire night for years. True, the cost of the display must have been considerable, but it would very likely have been absorbed by the higher-than-average price charged by the venue for food and drink throughout the rest of the year, so it seemed rather mean spirited to cancel something that had become a popular tradition, particularly looked forward to by local children.
If you want fast service or genuine character, pop over to the far side of the nearby church yard to The Bowling Green, and certainly don't think of visiting the Jockey if you've been for a muddy walk on Chorlton meadows! But if you are happy with what amounts to a city-dwelling interior designer's approximation of a country pub, that appeals to people who don't frequent real country pubs, then this is for you.
J. W.
Had lunch yesterday with friends.
Have to say it was beautifully cooked and served nicely. I had the sausages and they were very good. My friend had lasagne which was unfortunately a bit dry.
Everything hot and served well.
D. D.
Had a regular burger which was very average, chips were not very crispy and the coleslaw was very onion flavored. The night was saved by pub quiz night (every Thursday) and free roving pizza offered.
A. D.
Good food and quick table service. Just a shame that the Chorlton Pale Ale wasn't on as the Holt's beers are pretty rank.
A. C.
Perfect large pub/restaurant for a family meal (large enough for the extended family/friend circles too!). Tasty menu, expect to pay around £8-12 for dishes. Large outdoor seating area. Tip: reserve a table on a Sunday for large groups and order ahead and they'll save you whichever roast you would like. They are popoular so often run out!
D. K.
Good position on Chorlton Green. Beloved of dogs and their minders. And lots of very young children. You can get served, if you are patient. But I won’t stop going, occasionally, unless they find out who I am!...
Food and drink fine, but a bit restricted in choice.
R. M.
A really nice pub... We went in for something to eat and were quite surprised by the menu, in a good way, lots of nice things to choose from. You can tell we were in a trendy area as this was a cut above the usual Joey Holt’s pubs I’ve been too.
R. H.
This welcoming pub is situated at the end of the beautiful Beech Road. On a dry day its lovely to sit outside and over look Chorlton Green. The inside is equally as appealing too, it is spacious with lots of tables available in the bar area.
The food is homely and comforting, real traditional pub grub. I would recommend the steak and ale pie.
P. W.
Unfortunately, since Holt's took this pub over it has lost a great deal of its individuality. Gone are the seasonal festivals on the green and the annual beer festival. This year will be the first in recent memory where no one will be celebrating bonfire night outside. The range of beers and spirits has been significantly reduced and the menu is now uninspiring pub grub, with no distinction in the once upmarket restaurant section.
With all that said its still a gorgeous, historic pub in a pretty setting; with food and drink to satisfy, if not wow.
L. G.
The location and look of this pub is fantastic. I always enjoy going here after a long walk around Sale Waterpark which you can access just down the road. It's dog friendly and always has a nice atmosphere. The burgers I have eaten there have always been a bit on the dry side and the drinks a little pricey but that's not why I keep going back.
D. T.
We came for my sister's funeral wake, we had a lovely family afternoon.
The food was fabulous, and the staff made us very welcome, they couldn't do enough for us. We will definitely be coming back on a less sad occasion.
Thank you very much for your hospitality.
R.
Went on a sunny Saturday evening with family. The Green and outside the pub was full of revellers enjoying a summers evening.
This made for more space for diners on the inside. Service was good, food was very good and the price was moderate
L. W.
It's comfy inside, they have outdoor heaters to sit outside and it's very dog-friendly which is nice. I'm only giving it a three star rating through because I'm a fan of cider and they have a distinctly unimpressive range of cider available.
J. G.
Standard pub grub, table was covered in food when sat down so hadn't been wiped. Kids chicken goujons were cooked within an inch of their life. Pizza was good though.
P.
Friendly pub with great food selection and outdoor seating at the front for either rain or sun protection.
P. M.
Nice pub which does good food.
I've eaten here a couple of times for Sunday lunch, and had the Sunday roast on both visits.
The food is tasty but there just is not enough of it - the portion size is mean to say the least. ( half a teaspoon of puree'd carrots, half a teaspoon of greens, two tiny roast potatoes).
It's a pity really, because if the portions were more substantial then I would definitely recommend the Horse & Jockey.
M. G.
This pub has a great outside bit overlooking the Chorlton Green. If it is sunny it will be tough to get a seat but it is worth it. Staff are friendly, the beer selection does the job and food quite pleasant. Manchester has a lack of outside spaces to drink in but I would say this place is top of the list for chilled out watch the world go by.
A. M.
Nice location but when i went they had NO food, had to go through the whole menu to get something about 8th choice down and there were only 2 veggie options. Despite having a whole pizza menu they had NO pizzas! What i ended up eating wasnt great either...They have a pub quiz on Sunday too.
A. J.
Good food, good selection of veggie/vegan options too. The fries seemed to have been fried in old oil and the coleslaw was too warm but the rest was great. Good customer service and nice atmosphere.
S.
Great pub for a drink, good atmosphere and friendly staff. However, the new food menu is not good. Food quality has gone downhill
A. J.
Lovely staff!! The food is ok but the price is a little steep for what you get, but it's a good location with outside seating so worth a quick visit even if it's just for a drink before heading down beech road.
R. A.
Great food and a decent pub with selection of ales. Very busy sunny weekends so plan ahead. Parking can be difficult too - don't expect to find anywhere within 100 metres!
M. D.
Has the curse of all Joseph Holt pubs: Crystal and Diamond lager. Truly awful.
Great location on the green, outdoor seating is good and it's been done up quite nicely.
Damn that low ceiling though.
L. S.
Beautiful old building. Vegetarian food choice delicious. Nice to sit outside in good weather. Pub gets really busy so get there early.
j.
Very good pub, nice beers and food. Set in a picturesque location overlooking Chorlton Green. Has quite a bit of outside seating at the front, a great place to enjoy a beer in the sun!
J. S.
Lovely pub - plenty of seating, nice setting - you can take a wander around (the nicer part of) Chorlton before / after. Although the portions weren't massive, the food was really tasty, honest pub food. I had the lancashire hot pot - the lamb was beautifully tender.
R. S.
Was lookin forward to our special meal here as ours birthday. But didn't have what we fancied. So got steak and chips which was lovely but mushrooms and onion ring s were rather cold 😮
J. W.
Have visited here several times when I lived in Chorton, every time I gave eaten have had great food. Sunday roasts are good here. They also have a upstairs seating area for more formal dining and the staff are very friendly and good quality food. They have a good fireworks show on bonfire night with lots of space outside the pub across the road on Chorton green. Recommend for an afternoon drink outside in the heated seating area, very chilled and relaxed afternoon drinking
R.
Nice pub although a little of the warmth you'd expect in this type of pub is missing due to the decor. Bar staff are friendly but some of the worst I've ever come across at actually serving behind a bar.
P. W. (.
Food was OK at best, had better standards at other Holts pubs.
D. P.
Cute place for lunch, menu is pretty extensive. My only fault is that it's a bit pricey for the standard pub food. Service can be a bit slow. Good for families and is dog friendly.
P.
Beautiful food, sat outside on some very nice and sturdy tables much, better than the flimsy deteriorating wobbly mess you find at other places. Steak was solid, food was reasonable and the beer was was flowing!
I. S.
I am Positive there are many coffeine lover's out there who need a good cappuccino in the morning to get their day rolling, '' but guess what'' it won't be at this place because, if you try it once you will never come back for coffee. Our cappuccino is just flat white with chocolate sprinkles, begs the question should we risk the food. :D re-review will be necesseray (biscuit got it an extra star)
S. E.
Lovely pub this in South Manchester. Great food and atmosphere. We come here for our Sunday lunch couple of times a month. Highly recommended.
R. W.
I love this little pub, great staff and it's so cosy inside and the food is nice although the chef put garlic all over my veg and it didn't say that on the menu, it was really overpowering and I couldn't eat it.
A. R.
We've not eaten here yet but nice place for a drink. Loved the Bootleg beer from the microbrewery... and all the dogs that were enjoying a day out at the pub!
A. A.
Nice chic pub in an exclusive area
K. M.
Atmospheric country-style pub in a lovely village. Hard to believe it's in the city of Manchester. Great food. Dog friendly area inside.
R. L. B.
Nice place, traditional and dog friendly!
M. G.
Food was fresh cooked and was really good, lovely.staff.
R. S.
Lovely pub with decent ales. Food is decent and not too expensive. Very friendly staff recommended their fool's gold MPA, quite enjoyed it.
K. B.
Lovely little pub, good service. Stayed outside though as weather was lovely. Will go again
T. W.
Fantastic location on Chorlton Green! Really friendly atmosphere and good food! I took my little brothers (age 3 & 6) it was great for them and also just great to pop in for a pint.
T. S.
Always a great pub, with a small microbrewery attached. It has an amazing outside area and the location is fantastic! Dog friendly too which is always nice.
S.
Good place to have a pub lunch and a pint only downside it letting dogs in the bar where you eat and the low hanging ceiling if you're over 6ft you have to keep your head down other than that good service
J. E.
Really nice place. Especially sitting outside on a sunny day or inside in a winter evening. Good pub food. Good if you have a dog. Nice selection of beers. Nice quaint Chorlton surroundings for a walk.
D. C.
Lovely pub with a great choice of beers. Food looked good but didn't eat myself. Highly recommended
I. W.
Went there on Thursday, steak night. Two steaks with bottle of wine £35 which was good. Great fun afterwards with quiz night. We were in 2nd place all night until the random rounds :-(
a. j.
Nice pub but can leave you waiting to get served as staff don't bother keeping track of who has been waiting longest.
j. e.
Great pub with a super menu and relaxed, adult atmosphere. Fair prices, central and more often than not quite busy.
J. J.
It looks very nice but the food is slightly above average. No table service. Suitable for dog owners.
S. W.
Absolutely amazing 🤩🥰😍 would recommend to anyone looking for a nice atmosphere ,
R. G.
Would have been 3 stars as the booking we made was not logged, so not the best start for new year's eve, however they dealt with it straight away, the food was good and the staff friendly and good service, so no problem in the end.
J. M.
Great traditional pub ...lovely good traditional food ...plus something a little different to... a great atmosphere....warm and friendly...lively location ideal for outside eating in summer
R. P.
Had a fantastic Sunday dinner today.Lovely food and great service and it was priced very reasonably as well. What not to like.
J. B.
Really nice pub, plenty of selection and local ales. The building itself is really satisfying in appearance, fits in and stands out all the same.
I will return
a. b.
beautiful setting awesome little pub..dog friendly ,didn't eat there but what i saw looked very good and got divoured by the individuals
T. G.
Really enjoyed the food here, it can get a little cramped but we didn't wait too long for a table, and it was Christmas Eve that I visited it. Staff are friendly and helpful.
R. L.
Very nice surroundings either outside facing the green or inside in a warm friendly pub. Drinks are a bit pricey and food is average. Overall a nice place to go
S. B.
Gorgeous, old building. Great selection of beers and delicious food.
T. i. D. (.
Gorgeous Tudor pub with authentic, cosy feel that blends contemporary decor with a classic pub feel. The low ceilings add to the charm, and the menu is versatile enough for all.
N. R.
Good food & Drink. Warm & Fiendly & Cosy. Dogs allowed at front of Building/Bar area and Outside. Doggy Water & bowls allready provided & small Doggy biscuits at the bar.
K. W.
Lovely friendly place! Food was tasty well presented and great service. Love the fact dogs are welcome will return very soon x
M. C.
Fantastic little pub with plenty of character, great food and good service. Can get quite busy as it's very popular, but worth it, great on a cold winters night as it's very cosy !
R. N.
Lovely atmosphere and decor. We've been many times and the food is always delicious and they have a great range of ales.
R. J.
Great atmosphere and great, friendly staff. New food menu isn't great though. Please bring back the old menu!
P. C.
Nice pub. Good outside seating. But seats so uncomfortable. Not cheap but great location
R.
Great place to go if you want to stay out of the city centre, even on saturday night there are plenty of spaces to sit down and have a drink and chat.
It is also pet friendly and has a very nice cosy interior with lots of cushions around.
C. P.
The Horse and Jockey is a great pub on Chorlton Green. They recently had a new Chef earlier this year, whose food is above par. The best bits for me is it is great to hot desk from. Outside power sockets, wifi and covered areas mean that it is lovely to escape from the office and see the sun.
Updated:
Yesterday, the H & J opened again after a refurb. It now looks very clean and fresh and lighter. At times before it did get a little dark. The menu has also now changed again, I would recommend the Hot dog with pulled pork.
M. R.
I like the vibe of the place. It's cosy low ceilings, interesting food choices, same with the beer/drinks. It appeals to all ages.
T. L.
Very nice pub on Chorlton Green plenty of seating outside food available nice setting only downside beer a bit pricey for a Holts pub but i suppose you pay for the setting
L. J.
A great place with a big menu and lots of room. Staff were very busy and rushing but working very hard and the service was excellent.
D. R.
Great friendly pub on beech road in chorlton, good food and good choice of ales, wines and all that fun when drinking responsibly :-p
K. H.
Great place to have a beer in the sun outside over looking the green in front. It's not pretentious, but it's a cool place to hang out on a summer's day 😎
J. B.
Selection of beers and a great location with some seating and a grassed outside for the occasional sunny day. Always busy but the service is good.
D. N. K.
Suggest booking tables in advance. 45min delays in orders could be explained by the quality of food. It is an excellent place. Enjoy.
T. C.
Fish and chips were good but there were many fruit flies flying around 😒 Though probably not much the pub can do about it to be fair.
M. K.
Most dog friendly pub I have ever been in. The staff waited on my dogs and we're quite nice to me.
A. S.
Picturesque out the front. Feel like youre in nether popplington village square in the cotswolds and not just 15 mins on the bus from Moss Side! Gets very busy and crammed especially with all the Chorltonites and their prams but its worth a visit for good beer and great food.
S. B.
Only sat out for a drink but everyone pleasant and pub clean
S. G.
Normally Sunday lunch here is wonderful, unfortunately today was overcrowded so I’m assuming that’s why the food was dire, beef like shoe leather veg too hard, no taste at all so was so disappointed 😔. Will give it a miss for a while . Sorry .
J. R.
Staff very friendly the lunch was very nice big portions and very well presented...the only downside for us is that they allow dogs in which isn't to everyones taste!
S. F.

It's fine...but was so much better years ago when the pool table was there and the locals were proper chorltonians.
