Reviews of NQ64 Northern Quarter
O.
Really cool neon painted arcade bar!
Free entry!
Buy tokens to play their machine games, anything console wise is free to play without tokens!
Ultra fun venue and ultra cool people! Recommended for all gamers.
Great place to drink and chill with friends. I really enjoyed it.
S. S.
Really unique atmosphere, some of the consoles there are free to play. Drinks are great as well. Most of them require 2 tokens per person, 15 tokens = £7.
P. H.
A lovely retro arcade place in the northern quarter. Got a nice variety of single/multiple player games. Smaller that I thought it’d be given the popularity. Definitely worth checking out
J. P.
Nice place to stop by for an hour on a night out. Concept pretty self explanatory, purchase tokens at the bar for the machines and play. Drinks very pricey (£5.60 for a 330ml can of hooch) but expected from the Northern Quarter. Nice place overall, and the free consoles are very fun
N. T.
Very uniquely styled bar tucked away in the Northern Quarter. One of the only arcade bars that I've been too, as they seem to be a rarity, but was a great experience. Atmosphere is brilliant and a wide range of different arcade machines from retro driving games like Crazy Taxi to iconic fighting games like Tekken and Mortal Combat. All machines require tokens to play (reasonably priced at 15 for £7), however there are some free retro Nintendo consoles with a large variety of classic games on them too. Drinks are a bit expensive, however there is a reasonably large selection, with a range of video game inspired cocktails.
B. G.
Such an enjoyable experience!! Great drinks
Great games!! They even have a dance machine! Which is a rare nowadays! Really funny and cool!
L. G.
First time here really loved it, great prices although staff could be a little more welcoming. We hadnt been before and how no idea how it worked so would have been nice to been explained to & welcomed when at the bar, instead of being left to guess and even when we looked confused someone could have offered help as there were a few people working but just chatting amongst themselves.
H. M.
Loved this place. Its a top shelf arcade. Bit tight, especially when the place is packed and one of the staff were a bit moody but not too bad. Amazing selection of games and cocktails. Crowd was young and everyone seemed to be having a good laugh. Good times.
J. T.
Gotta be the best place I’ve ever visited in Manchester! Bearing in mind I’ve lived here the past 5 years, every time I come to this venue I leave with a smile on my face! Great bartenders great drinks! Never a boring moment playing space invaders 2 shots in! I’d recommend this place to anyone visiting this wonderful city, you will not be disappointed!!
S. M.
Fun place to play retro games. Looks dirtier than it is as the graffiti is a deliberate decorative choice. Although I didn't have one, the cocktails looked interesting.
K. A.
Great bar with loads of arcade games. Machines and arcade cabinets take tokens, but at 15 tokens for £7 it's a great price. Also have a range of games consoles which are free to play. Cool underground location and nice vibe/look.
T. K.
Very well designed little place, love the retro feel and decent selection of arcade machines. Wasn't too busy on my visit, lively without being overly crowded.
However, I can only give it 3 stars. This is because of the absolutely ridiculous prices of some of the drinks.
Over £13 for a double rum and coke. Over £7 for a beer. That's £21.70 I believe we were charged for those 2 drinks. For that reason, I will never go back there. Playing videogames is a little novelty extra for me on a night out, not the main attraction and certainly not enough incentive for such steep drink prices.
No wonder the prices weren't listed at the bar.
S. R.
My absolute favourite go to bar in Manchester! Open til 2am on weekdays, good bar prices and all the retro arcade games you could wish for 😎
T. S.
Great atmosphere and music. Not my usual place but I got taken for my daughter's 21st. Glad I went.
L. 4.
What's not to love! Arcades and drinks all under one roof! The nostalgia is great!
b. h.
Different experience and definitely include on a night out again. Play a selection of games with your beers such as mario kart, time crisis, dance dance etc. You buy a number of tokens as a bundle, tokens seem to last more on some things than others
Only reasons why I can't rate as 5 despite it being a must. Its a place you come for the casual experience, not a full night of drinking, plus it is quite tightly packed when groups are surrounding most machines
J. D.
Really fun bar , great staff , crazy cocktail menu and the bowser breezer is f*****g delicious
A. B.
Great place to play games at and have a drink. Even managed a couple high scores on the outrun 2 and guitar hero machine so I say I've had my fun. Just a shame I can only come here when visiting out of town!
J. D.
Love the idea. I love gaming. But was disappointed. Too busy to actually play anything. Many games were out of order. Too many people Too few games. One of the games wouldn't even accept the tokens so couldn't play that. Ended up just donating all the tokens. Got to keep the cups atleast.
P. W.
Fantastic place to have a few drinks and play some retro games. Had a blast in here recently playing Tekken with some work mates.
K. D.
Music was banging! Wicked Vibe, not too big a place as well.
My only suggestion is to get Street Fighter on the big screen for some competitive matches!
S. B.
An amazing idea for a nightclub that I hope continues trending

Brilliant spot. A gem for old school gaming and arcade. Mix in a good selection of drinks and your in for a great blast.

Great staff, great retro arcade games, brilliant vibe and very affordable to play and drink. Highly recommended

Quirky place where you can enjoy a bit of nostalgia with friends or dates. Good selection of games.

Delicious game themed cocktails, great music and arcade games are still after all these years so much fun, retro now, but the latest thing when i was a kid lol, a real trip down memory lane.
J. B.
Such a hidden gem! We went to this bar on a Saturday night and even though it was a little crowded it was still very easy to get onto plenty of the arcade games. There are many different types of games to go on and at only £5 for 15 tokens you'll more than likely get to experience most of them considering most machines only cost 1 token! Cocktails were tasty and were a reasonable price. Will definitely be going back.
D. L.
Fun and exciting Games £7 for a pot of coins to give you hours of fun( depending how good you are at 80s 90s arcade games)
B. C.
Gritty nostalgia, some of the consoles are buggy... staff are superb, friendly, talkative, really nice vibe and so much fun playing games with friends.
D. W.

This place is mega. Loads of arcade games that took me right back to my childhood of skulking about the arcades of the mid 90s.
Saw a pic of a WWF game prior to my visit but wasn't here which I was a bit gutted about, but not the end of the world because there's plenty more to make up for it.
They also have consoles which are free to play, it's only the arcade machines you pay to play. This is £5 for 15 tokens and 98% of machines only require 1 token.
My only gripe is machine hogs which can't really be controlled, waited a good while to get on time crisis 2.
Staff were friendly, good prices on drinks and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back.
S. “. T.
visited the NQ64 retro gaming bar and were very impressed. It wasn’t quite as big as the website made out but still had ample gaming machines and consoles to try your hand at. The tokens were good value too at £5 for 15, with most machines only one token but tokens are no non-refundable!
J. M.
Probably the coolest bar in Manchester? Retro games, great cocktails and beer. Great game selection and really cool venue. Easily missed but should be first on your list to visit.
D. J.
Great arcade with a well stocked bar and friendly staff! Some of these machines are SUPER old school, which is amazing, but with these come a few issues. This is never a problem, as there is always a knowledgeable mechanic on hand to fix any issues with the machines. Tokens are cheap, especially for a city centre, and the cocktail menu is creative and well executed. If cocktails aren't your thing, there is also a great selection of craft beer and soft drinks. I definitely recommend NQ64!
T. J.
Awesome place, drinks weren't too expensive either. Which for the centre of Manchester is unexpected. Very nostalgic playing some of the older games. Really enjoyed my time here.
A. F.
The tokens are slightly expensive, especially since in Bury there's a massive arcade that serves food and alcohol and all you pay is a small fee to get inside, games are all on free mode. Wish somewhere in Manchester would follow this system but I get it, real estate in the city is expensive. So it's fine for what it is. Overall would recommend not a bad place, staff are friendly and they have good beer on tap.
M. L.
Brilliant spot. A gem for old school gaming and arcade. Mix in a good selection of drinks and your in for a great blast.
W. H.
Nice cheeky little find! Great atmosphere, tunes and retro games... Aesthetic was right up my street... Cocktails game themed (though alittle pricey)... Deffo coming again.
C.
Great concept, 80/90s style gaming pub. Wall to wall retro games £5 for 15 tokens. Luminous graffiti & strobe lighting (be aware) music & interesting drinks, well worth a visit
C.
I really enjoyed it here today my sister suggested it and the coke was nice I played Mario kart and proved to my sister I can win on shine runners I was very proud I did better then my dad and my sister I did rage on pac-man and crash bandicoot wouldn’t load but apart from that it was amazing
B. S.
A really good idea, the venue is smaller than I thought and was busy when we went which meant some games we had to wait to play but overall it was a great place to visit.
D. M.
Every time is a pleasure! Cool quirky and full of good vibes! Shout out to Ben made our night! 11/10 would cum again !
B. J.
Impressive range of arcade cabinets given the available space even managed to get my name on top 5 Simpsons Arcade, machines use tokens so you might have to go back to use them up if you don't on first visit. Funny thing is the Northern Quarter venue let me in but the one near Deansgate refused me entry because I was "on my own" (no, I don't get that either).
J. m.
Good way to spend some time on the old retro arcades.
Beers/ cocktails available.
It's a little small so felt a bit cramped.
S. M.
A hidden jewel in Manchester which you're not likely to find by accident. It lives down at the end of an alleyway in the Northern Quarter, and its exterior does a great job of hiding what's inside.
The atmosphere is amazing with a selection of old and more recent arcade machines. They operate a token scheme which means you don't need to bring your own change. It makes playing the machines significantly cheaper than if you were paying outright.
Unfortunately it's not wheelchair accessible as far as I could see, but there's not much they would be able to do with the space they have.
Their selection of cocktails are themed based on retro games, and they have some Camden ales on tap too. If you don't use all your tokens, you can always take them home and play the next time.
S. R.
Brilliant idea and great atmosphere. Plenty of old school arcade games to get stuck in to. Only issue is two of the games we wanted to jump in on were out of use at the time we went. Tokens for games aren't pricey either at 15 for £5!
T. M.
Great music and some awesome games but it gets so busy. Tough to move around and even to get to the bar.
G. K.
We are OBSESSED with NQ64. Such great vibes! Creative cocktails! A huge variety of arcade games! Bar staff are usually lovely! It’s never been too busy for us either! It’s always just the right level of busy! We love the huge selection of games to play and are particularly fond of the dance mats and guitar hero! Definitely recommend for a fun night out!
C.
Bit trendy and pricey but if you enjoy arcade machines and old consoles it's a good place to lose a few hours
O.
Full retro experience - Really not for young'uns - Only for oldies who remember the original experience!!
J. P.
The setting and concept is 5 star. Wide selection of retro arcade games, and generally an enjoyable alternative.
On the downside with no restriction of the number of people inside, it can be nigh on impossible to actually choose to play on any of the machines on a Saturday evening. Drinks are slightly pricey too.
E. H.
Great fun with a great atmosphere and the 4-bit pilsner was 👌 highly recommended if you want to kill some time in the day.
A. M.
NQ64 is slightly hidden away down a side street but is definitely worth searching for. There are a good selection of games that you buy tokens for from the bar. 15 tokens cost £5 and I played 7/8 games. In addition to the paid games there are a few free consoles near the bar which were good - they had (I think) Mario Kart, James Bond and Ultimate Street Fighter on them. The bar had a good selection of beer and a bottle of Heineken cost me £4.25. It's a shame that it's a bit of a small space as it got quite hot when there were a few people in, it's also very noisy.
V. M.
I thought this place was abit over rated but my partner is a gamer so we needed to try it out, we definitely didnt expect it to be so small and tightly packed in. The games run on tokens which are 15 for £5 which is good value (you can even pop any left over ones in a charity tub on way out). The games are cool but because its so busy you constantly have people breathing down your neck waiting for their turn and we never got anywhere near the games we actually wanted to play which was a shame. The staff on the bar were quick and friendly though :)
m.
Quirky place where you can enjoy a bit of nostalgia with friends or dates. Good selection of games.
J.
I really enjoyed spending time with colleagues here, I will come back. Thanks guys!
R. W.
Great selection of retro cabinets and consoles. Consoles are free, the other machine require a token - the token prices are very cheap compared to places I've been.
Really nice touches in the interior design - old gaming magazine covers and cartridges plastered to the wall, as well as drinks menus illustrated and themed on video game characters.
Everyone there was nice and friendly. Only held off on the 5th star because it was so packed! Nice to see somewhere like this so popular - would recommend!
M. J.
Great bar, friendly staff, and the retro arcade machines are fun.
K. “. G.
Smaller than expected but good range of arcade cabinets and alright cocktails
A. J.
Underground arcade hall, with witty named cocktails. Relive your childhood in this cyberpunk themed game bar. Get your coins and start playing. Done? Enough bars in this specific alley to allow you to switch it up. Time cop is my favourite here. Also while ordering your drink, enjoy the wall of Nintendo cartridges on the wall. Get your 1 up, and start gaming.
C. S.
Great atmosphere, good tunes, cocktails are well made, and the staff are friendly
J. “. C.
Do you like old school arcade games? What about inventive cocktails? Look no further because NQ64 had got you covered! The drinks are reasonably priced and £7 gets you 15 game tokens with most games only requiring 1 to play. Not to mention the free to play consoles if that's your thing, so if you've ever wanted take a retro trip this is the place for you! Just be warned, it gets pretty warm down there.
L. B.
Good fun, something different. We went on a Wednesday night so you could manoeuvre easily and get on any of the machines however I couldn’t imagine going when busy at the weekends as it is a small space and it might be hard to get on a machine. Great drink selections and the tokens are reasonably priced.
M.
Excellent, nostalgic atmosphere with a great range of classic arcade machines. Highly recommend - although it's clear they make their money off the drinks and not so much the games!
I. B.
This place was amazing ! The decor and drinks were perfect and the games were good too! Will be a regular there now. Only downside is that the prices of the cocktails are bit expensive there wasn't a 2 for 1 offer like in most places. £9 is a bit much for a student
Edit: Really dissapointed by the response from the owner. Its not nice to just say "if you don't like it get something else" Please review your responding policy and your prices are steep I am speaking for many people I have spoken to who also attended the NQ64 bars not just myself.
A.
Great vibe. Old school arcade games. Good beer.
w. e.
I absolutely love the games here but the machines need calibrating. For example, the guns on the house of the dead and point blank are very inaccurate :(
Controllers can also get very sticky buttons and not work properly.
Time crisis pedals also don't work reliably :(
I loved the machines though and £7 for 15 tokens is very reasonably priced
J. M.
Retro games, good drinks and an interesting atmosphere. Very glad I've come here, reccomended to others.
G. C.
Great place if the games are working. Sadly, Ms Pacman was not. The bar staff were your typical unfriendly hipsters, too cool to even smile, but that didn't matter too much 'cos all you wanna do is play Time Crisis and beat your mates and Street Racer!
S. O.
Great fun, Plenty of drink selection. Loads of games from your childhood great for a different experience
S. B.
An amazing idea for a nightclub that I hope continues trending
E. M.
Really fun night, would be amazing for a group of friends or on a date! Lots of different gaming options, it is £7 for a cup of tokens and they can last you multiple hours. They also have a few retro consoles (ie Gamecube etc) set up with TVs that you can play for free! The place is quite small so can get quite busy/cramped esp during covid but we went on a Friday and still got to play everything we wanted. Really cool decor too, most drinks are well priced (aside from the cocktails which are £9 and small).
N. u.
Great retro game bar hidden away. Noisy, busy, vibrant. Won't be to everyone's taste but good to give a visit and play some classics
J. M.
Great bar, staff fab, and the experience is just excellent. Fantastic retro games to keep you busy whilst you enjoy the very reasonable priced drinks. Worth the 10 min wait to get in!
R. W.
Social distancing and masks had a bit of a negative affect on this visit. I still had a nice time, drinks ordered on app and served quickly, they were quite busy too. Obvs had fun on the games, quickly went through the £7 of tokens, there were two of us though. Will visit again
A. R.
I had wanted to visit NQ64 For over a year! It didnt disappoint , great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff & I absolutely loved playing the retro games .
Amazing night , Fun for all.
Even my BF got into just
Dance.
Highly recommended.
V.
Absolute briliant place! We went on a Friday night and it's the perfect place for a weekend night. And the Belgian Raspberry beer is fantastic. Love it!
S. L.
Brilliant place and staff.. Proper cool games n pinball machines
D. B.
Fantastic place, good selection of drinks & arcades, highly recommend a visit!
N.
Really nothing negative to say about this place, it just needs to be bigger with more seating. Everything glows and the music is always superb (usually old school hip hop playing). Just wish there was enough room to chill in this environment so that we could stay longer and drink longer, because if you want to take a break from games there's nowhere really to sit apart from one or two tables which are usually full. They've got some old school consoles to play free of charge as well as a good variety of arcade games. Really hoping they move locations to somewhere more spacious!
p. t.
Good beer ane good vibes
Very small space though !
M. S.
Went here on Saturday night - got a few rounds of goldeneye in but not much else. This place is very popular! If you want to play various games, I would say get there early.
J. H.
It costs £7 for 15 games tokens. Smaller games (think pinballs machine, smaller arcade machines, etc.) cost one token, and bigger games (arcade driving games, shooting games, etc.) cost two tokens each.
Really good bar with some great classic games!
R. E.
This place is fantastic! Good range of drinks, whether it's busy or quiet there are enough machines that you never have to wait too long. They have both free machines and machines that you need tokens for. The tokens are pretty cheap anyway. 15 for £6 and the atmosphere is great. I've lost track of how many times I've ended up there in the past few months.
M. T.
Great place
Amazing atmosphere
Extortionate cocktail prices
M. A.
Sick playlist & tasty cocktails highly recommended!
A.
Cool concept and good variety of retro arcade games with the tokens being reasonably priced. Let down by the disappointing and overpriced drinks... £8.50 for a cocktail served in an old tin that consisted mainly of crushed ice and about a thimble of actual alcohol.
H. K.
Reallu really enjoyed it here. Games are good value for money and really fun and well maintained!
S. L.
Friendly service, great game selection and a big drinks menu. All you could want!
R. S.
Fun way to spend an evening! Tokens don't go as far as you'd anticipate!
Some of the games could do with a little sign with controls or advice/tips and tricks!
S.
So fun for a night out on memory hill, some really cool games
N. P.
It's great, has a good selection of classic arcade machines including house of the dead 2
G. T.
Always very clean in here, bar staff get through big crowds pretty quick, signs everywhere reminding people not to game hog which fortunately, most people adhere to and play a game then move on to the next. Space is a little bit small so can get cramped on a Friday/Saturday night, but a great hidden gem if you manage to catch it when it's quiet! Tokens are great value for money
S. B.
Great place to chill out and play some retro arcade games with your mates over a few drinks. The machines actually work which is more than I can say for other similar places I've been to.
J. F.
Great games concept bar. Well worth a try.
L. C.
Cool vibe inside but strange policy on the final day of table service. QR code wasn't working and barmaid refused to take our order at the table because "she wasn't allowed". Why!?
C. M.
Great atmosphere, perfect staff and a beautiful selection of drinks and arcade machines!
Can't fault it, 10/10 would spend all day in there if I could!
A. D.
You get absolutely robbed of tokens, and it's literally twice the melting point of steel in there, and all the machines are always taken, but I made a mate in the toilets playing Street fighter so it all balances out.
s. p.
Great fun, certainly fun for a night of old school gaming
S. M.
Do you like retro games? Do you like drinking? Do you like paying to play retro games while drinking alcohol which you also have to pay for? Are you unconcerned about being in a small basement bar with loads of other people during a global pandemic?
If so, this place is for you. It's certainly for me. Forget the delta variant, don't worry about the epsilon or lambda variants, they're not in the UK yet, get vaccinated and go, you'll be fine.
Don't want to get vaccinated? Just get covid for natural immunity and then go when you've recovered (if you're not dead).
NQ64, five star covid bar.
L. g.
Very cool retro arcade bar with few quirky drinks. Loads of old school arcade machines (shooting, racing, pinball) and some old school console games (tekkan2, Mario kart etc) well kept and cool glow in the dark art work
E. F.
Could happily stay in here all evening. Drinks reasonably priced, staff friendly and £10 worth of tokens will keep you entertained amongst pay to play and free games for some time. People seem to generously pass on unused (unrefundable) tokens on exit, but keep them for next time, you’ll be back.
K. T.
Great place. I love the retro games
T. M.
Fantastic retro-arcade with a bar to boot! The tokens are reasonably priced - £5 for 15 tokens (most machines are 1 or 2 tokens a game) and all consoles are free-to-play. It was extremely busy when I went, but admittedly it was pay-day weekend Saturday evening... I've heard that it's fantastic to go to midweek. Give it a go - let nostalgia take over!
c. w.
First time here not jnowing what to expect.
Absolutely brilliant, full of life, great music, great games, great drinks.
Every city must have an NQ64
M. D.
It is a really cool place for small group of friends, couples and people who enjoy playing games. There is a big choice of old school arcades. Drinks are really tasty (£8 each) and their names are based on games. You can get 15 tokens for £5 but most of the games costs two of them (£4 if you want to play with someone). But there isn't a lot of space and it gets crowdy during the weekends. Also the only place that you can put your jacket is a small hanger next to the machine. So you will end up going around with it in your hand most of the time. But overall I recommend this place as a good weekend spot.
M. P.
Great little venue, great selection of drinks. Token and drink prices are very reasonable. Free to play consoles such as SNES and Mega Drive. Arcade cab selection has a nice variety of genre. Minor downside is size of the bar, especially on busier evenings which can lead to queues for consoles and cabs.
N. W.
Great experience, great selection of games, great selection of drinks behind the bar. Staff welcoming and friendly.
E. d. S. S.
Very nice place. Good cocktails, decent prices, really fun to go with friends and just have some fun playing the games. Not a big fan of the choice in music, but not that much of a big deal either. Easy recommendation from me.
D. F.
Really good fun for gamers and non-gamers like
N. W.
The disign of the place may not be fancy, but the games are amazing. It's the first arcade place I have visited and I'm sure I will come back more. Staff is very friendly, they even offered to keep our suitcases in the back while we play, which was extremely nice :) They also have a nice selection of beer!
S. C.
Best collection of arcades I've seen. So busy you can't play most of them though. We went on a Saturday night and all the big games had groups on them for ages. The custom coins are a nice touch, I bet they all get nicked as souvenirs.
M. J.
Great place to relax, have a few drinks and play some retro video games. The venue is quite small and popular, so expect to have to wait to use some of the more popular machines. Tokens can be purchased from the bar, £5 gets you 15 tokens for the arcade machines, of which most of 2 tokens. There are also 4 free to play retro gaming consoles, a SNES, N64, PS1 and GameCube; however these are pretty popular so don't expect to walk in and sit straight down at one of these. All in all, a great place to spend an hour at the start of your night, or during the day.
R. B.
Came here for about an hour to kill some time before heading home on the coach and was pretty cool, a fair few arcade machine for you to play, some pinball machines and even a couple of N64’s and game cubes to play for free.
Nice atmosphere, cool decor but a little bit hard to find.
J. S.
NQ64 is one of those hidden places that makes you smile so much when you find it!
It's a small arcade with around 40 different games, some of them are fantastic some aren't that great and need some maintenance.
Overall it has a really sweet atmosphere. If you're looking some food as well, the pizza place next door is pretty good as well!
H. “. M.
Cool little bar with a good choice of retro games to play. Sadly lots that can't be played due to being broken. The ones that do work seem a little off, buttons not working properly and joysticks feeling worn. Good but not great like other retro games bars. Need to work on your maintenance.
V. S.
This place is such a gem and always packed full of people. Choice of cabinets that take coins and consoles free to play. Cocktails are nothing special in my opinion but they've also got a nice selection of beers from all over the world. I don't go there too often but everytime it's an absolute blast.
A. J.
Nice throw back to my childhood... if your born in the late 80s and grew up in the 90s you'll love it and even if not give it a try... it's an unexpected gift. Drink are decently priced and tokens for the games are reasonable plus they have free games too!! Win win
M. B.
I think it embraces what it is really well. Over 18 retro arcade. It's got a slightly sticky dingy feel due to being underground but that kind of fits in with the nostalgia. The odd game is a bit tricky with not recognising tokens but the staff always replace them. I recommend outrun and time crisis 2. It's also got a few old consoles set up to play games like smash Bros and Tony hawk's. It's £6 for a bunch of coins and between two of you this will do about half an hour if there are no queues on games. A good place to hang with a good selection of beers and cocktails.
Four stars because I've visited a lot of barcades and run my own pop up arcade and I think these places should not just have retro games as there are so many amazing new indie local coop games out. Also I can imagine if it was really busy the best games would be hard to get much time on.
Definitely worth a visit and a great example of the burgeoning barcade scene.
n. t.
Lovely place. One can relax from the stress of the day playing games used play years ago. Very clean place and smells incredible :)
j. c.
Such a great place! If you like your games and fancy a drink at the same time this place is a must! Also they use tokens so its loads cheaper than a classic arcade.
L. M.
Nostalgia bomb for 80s/90s kids, but with alcohol and swearing and very loud music. It feels illicit and joyful and indulgently fun. The machines only need 1-2 tokens to run a decent length game, we bought 15 tokens for £5 from the bar with our drinks. My vodka cranberry was not stingy on the vodka. Played a few rounds each on Crazy Taxi, Ms. Pacman, Spider-Man pinball, House of the Dead 2, then finished up on one of the free to play consoles, and embarrassed myself on Mario Kart. The whole place was simultaneously hype and relaxed.
A. S.
Great selection of retro cabinets, consols oles and pinball. Nice beer selection and a decent atmosphere too. Prices are reasonable, £5 gets you 15 tokens and lasted me a good hour and a half.
B. L.
NQ64 is the bar for those looking for the 80s to 90s nostalgia. It has decently priced drinks and the atmosphere of an early 90s arcade. It can be quite crowded but with a small amount of patience it's definitely the place for people who have ever been to an arcade before the turn of the century.
D. C.
Absolutely brilliant, a must for all. Plenty of arcade games and at £5 for 15 tokens it's a bargain.
J. P.
One of my most favourite bars in Manchester. Really fun games. Someone accidentally drank my drink, and one of the members of staff saw, and she quickly came over and replaced my drink—charming customer service.
M. F.
If you like those old video games and consoles this is the place for you. The beer selection is very limited but I guess you aren't here for that. You buy tokens from behind the bar for the arcade machines but the consoles are free.
I had a great evening here if nostalgia trying to remember how to play those games.
T.
As expected from the northern quarter, the drinks aren't exactly cheap, and this place isn't exactly quiet. You may have to wait around for quite a while to use specific machines/games. You get 15 tokens for £5, and the consoles are free to use (as long as you've bought a drink, obviously)
D. H.
Great drinks selection, nice staff and the games are brilliant. You do have to wait for your go but it's alright cos the music is ace. It wasnt expensive for the game tokens either, I was pleasantly surprised.
s.
So much fun! Great concept. Delicious drinks and we loved the way it's set up with the tokens. It's possible to really enjoy the games for an affordable amount of money.
N. H.
Really cool place with a decent selection of ales but if you're running a gaming bar you *need* to have at least 4 functioning N64 controllers as a minimum. When I asked to replace the 4th broken one the barman checked the cupboard but there wasn't a spare. The PlayStation pads were working, but only just. Recommend this place and would be five stars if they invest in their gear. Would be nice to have a choice of some games on the Nintendo's and PlayStation.
L. S.
There are some great games to play, but it was quite loud and busy so it took a while to play them. Good range though
E.
Loved it! Lots of cool old arcade, ps1 and nintendo games. Showed my girlfriend who's the boss (the only place I can do that at)...
P. B.
Amazing bar - fantastic amount of games to play and the coins are quite cheap! The machines are kept in a great condition. A really nice cool place to drink and play games!
S.
It looked much nicer on the photos, but it's all right. Really cool coin design and graffiti and good selection of games, but they're mostly emulated. Some machines didn't worked properly like the Street Fighter II for example - it was impossible for example to do a 'hadouken' and one of the pinball machines was stopping working all the time swallowing my coins.
N. S.
A great collection of arcade cabinets, pinball tables and free-to-play retro consoles, hidden away beneath the Northern Quarter. Drinks are tasty (if slightly expensive) and you can buy cheap tokens from the bar (15 games for £5). The custom NQ64 tokens are a delight though, you'll be tempted to just keep them!
c. c.
Great laugh targeted at younger adults, bit dingy and gets over busy at times but overall great fun
G. “. L.
One of the best ideas ever, games were fun and drinks were so good, if you're in the area you need to go and check it out!
K. U.
Great little place full of arcades and decent drinks. Good value for money
J. L.
Has a really good selection of retro arcade machines and cocktails to go with, even some interesting selections of beers too. Definitely recommend checking it out.
T. N.
Had a great time here. Loads of cool retro arcade games and great cocktails.
T. D.
Unique establishment. A good selection of arcade and some console games for the time as well as a bar. Prices are what you would expect for this kind of thing and for a date/ once in a while it’s more than acceptable
E. B.
An arcade with two rooms of games from the 80s-00s that are a reasonable price to play. The atmosphere is very cool as well (blacklight graffitti of arcade game classic imagery). Fun place to spend an hour nostalgia tripping
R. R. B.
Really cool arcade pub. The feel of the place is nostalgic, drinks are fine and prices are reasonable for both drinks and games. Although they don't have much variety when it comes to games but still they have some good options.
S. S.
A dark, sticky, slightly sweaty basement bar adorned with graffiti and chock full of some of the greatest retro arcade games and consoles - geek heaven. What’s not to love!
If you make a wish and you’re lucky, you may be visited by a Coin Fairy (AKA a very drunk person giving you all their coins for free and shouting “GLAD TIDINGS FROM THE COIN FAIRY!”) 💰
R. G.
I really enjoyed my first visit to NQ64. There were plenty of arcade games to choose from, three pinball tables as well as old consoles including a SNES, Mega Drive and N64s to play.
The tokens you buy to use on the machines are really cool. They cost £5 for 15 tokens which is decent. My wife and I played a stack of arcade games, then jumped on the free to play consoles and we still had some tokens left, so it was definitely good value for money.
C. C.
Such a fun place, only £7 for 15 tokens for the games and bar inside too.
R. Y.
Great fun, and super chilled not crazy prices aswell for city centre..
K. B.
Amazing! So so much fun and the staff were lovely and friendly, really chill place to take friends or would make a cute date spot!🥰
S. B.
Great idea for a bar. The pictures in the website are deceptive. Very short for space and you feel like you're limited in playing because of people breathing down your neck. But I love the concept!
C. T. R.
Good concept, a bit small. Limited overall. (£5 for 15 tokens)
I love the idea & the place isn’t too expensive £5 for £15 tokens with games either coding 1 or 2 tokens.
For the most part you have to wait around as there is only 1 of each game. There’s only 1 floor & it’s quite small so no general segregation of areas (eg; 80s floor 1, 90s floor 2, consoles floor 3 etc).
The “console” games are limited to 1 SNES (mario kart), 1 cube (Marion kart), 1 64 (golden eye), 1 PS1 Tekken. I may have missed something but that’s about it. (FYI; all console gaming is free.
Bad bits;
• parking shocking (it’s in the town centre)
• a bit dark & dingy
• limited games
• limited availability
• tokens for gaming
Good bits;
• free entry
• reasonable pricing for tokens
• kit condition generally good
Comments;
• I would prefer to pay entry then free play all games
• more console games please
• where is FIFA? Pro Evo ???
Overall great concept just poorly executed.
G.
Lots of neon, lots of acracde machines and some pinball options. Definitely has a grungy atmosphere with graffiti on the walls but that works in its favor. NQ64 feels like a slightly shady 80s arcade without actually being shady.
Prices for tokens are very reasonable and there's a nice choice of craft beers and ciders
M. B.
Great staff. Great selection of drinks. Plenty of old school arcade games to tickle your nostalgia bone. House Of The Dead 2 only has 1 controller unfortunately.
T. J.
Good place to visit but very expensive for alcohol and not the best upkeep of games to play on. Good for a quick visit
K. T.
Good selection of games and drinks. Can be a wait for the most popular games when busy
D. B.
Good vibe, retro games from most eras, spacer invaders, galaga, dance-dance, shooter games, pinball and more.
£5 currently gets you 15 tokens, which you need 1 or 2 per game, so not exactly cheap, but worth a trip on a night out.
H. C.
Really cool unique bar, looks so sketchy when you walk towards it down the alley but it's an absolute gem. Had a great time, and the beer was good too!
N. R.
Awesome place to go. Plenty of games to play, and good beers on draught
C. M.
Brilliant. Nostalgia overload. There's even an arcade machine in the toilet!!
Z. C.
Good atmosphere, cheap and a laugh
K.
Your local arcade from childhood grew up, got a punky edge and learned how to make a mean cocktail.
Highly recommended! Easily in my top 5 👌
d.
Banging cocktails ! Staff really helpful!
C. S.
The barman Harold was very great to us offering great advise about our marriage. Fun bar with lots of games. Only wish they had peggle and Guinness on tap.
j. e.
Really good fun, decent music and nice atmosphere. My only complaint is the lack of variety of games, we got 30 chips between 3 of us and didn't end up using them all.
G. S.
Great place to spend a fun hour or two. The games could probably do with some clear instructions posted next to them as I felt like I was wasting tokens not knowing how to play the games properly (or maybe I'm too young to just get it instinctively 😅)
V. S.
Very busy, but really fun. They have a good beer selection and games are cheap to play. There are a lot of retro games.
L. A.
Good fun experience but so expensive, paid £8 for a cocktail that was about 300ml, also surprisingly busy for a week night so it was hard to get onto the decent games/machines
B. W.
Visited NQ64 on Saturday night. Great idea and well executed. The place was mobbed but created a great atmosphere. It took me and a couple of friends back a couple of decades! Would certainly go back recommend.
S. L.
Great retro bar, with great atmosphere and a cracking selection of drinks and cocktails. More than happy to spend a nostalgic hour or so. Great with similar minded friends
J.
Great place for gaming and drink, very friendly staff
L. L.
Awesome bar, great concept. Lots of great beers and cocktails. Really fun for a night out. Staff weren't great but everything else was awesome.
D. S.
Not as much fun or variety as Pixel Bar
C. S.
Great for gamers , cheap beer and retro vibes
J. M.
Sam gave me an awesome night midweek looking for a fun night out with just a couple friends. Highly reccomend!
s.
Great novelty place but can’t imagine going there for a night out but ace to pop in for half an hour and play some retro arcade games. Lost one star because a couple of the games didn’t work properly or would take your token and not allow you to play.
S. J.
I liked this small retro acrade bar, although quite a few of the same games and very loud. Still, a nice little stop on a fun night out. Situated in a corner of Manchester's Northern Quarter.
A. D.
Decent bar with a great vibe in a good central location
S. M.
Not a amazing selection of game's to play it value enough for the tokens I suppose drinks are expensive and there are alot of signs up asking people not to hog the machine's but I imagine when it's busy it will be quite dull
E. J.
Great place, good range of arcade games and themed cocktails. Can get quite busy and a bit lairy later into the night but worth a visit
B. B.
Absolutely amazing in here! Great choice of arcades can’t wait to come back
A. M.
No jeans no access policy - except if you’re a woman. It used to be a cool place
L. C.
Awesome atmosphere and even better cocktails!
J.
Great find. Great manager prices are cheap too
C. C.
Cool place with some decent games! Great for a night out with friends
M. W.
Decent, drinks are easy to come by, cocktails 8 quid. Machines take tokens which are a fiver for 15. Most machines are one token for one play.
L. C.
Love this place, great games and beer
A.
-Brilliant
-Funky
-Great music
-Stocks Midori
-Great pinball machines
-Loved playing the pinball machines and pacman
C. D.
Loved it! Warm bar staff too.
P. J.
Great selection of retro games and pinball tables, £5 worth of tokens goes a long way and the themed cocktails are excellent (can recommend the Root Beer Tapper)
H. R.
Game Arcade + bar for the gamers. Amazing place to chill out while having fun.
T. B.
Great games and reasonably priced drinks in a good northern quarter location. Very small location so can be incredibly cramped at busy times
J. M.
Quirky and enjoyable venue. Decently priced drinks and games aren't too expensive
A. C.
Absolutely loved it.
A. H.
Awesome retro gaming bar, a small selection of games. But got the classics
R. T. (.
Great old style gaming bar with a lot of character and lots of choice for retro games. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere, definitely recommend.
C. B.
My face game in here is probably tmnt. Good atmosphere. No game hogging. Overall a really fun time especially if you're on a first date
P. T.
A decent selection of well maintained arcade classics and it has a bar!
R. A.
The absolute cyberpunk dream! This place is just fantastic for a gamer girl like me... also good luck trying to find it because I've no idea how I did.
T. W.
New bar with a great concept, well executed, and an atmosphere to complement.
Draught pints under £5, cocktails par for the course in Manchester.
K. M.
Great place to go for drinks and get to relive the old retro arcade games. Can easily spend a good couple hours here.
N. M.
It has a really great atmosphere but running classic consoles on LCD wide-screen panels is sacrilege, they look horrendous. They should be run on CRTs or nothing.
B. C.
Very fun bar in the heart of Manchester. Good cocktails and drinks and an array of fantastic arcade machines, everything from house of the dead to pinball and space invaders
C. J.
Amazing place to play arcade games. The prices are very reasonable and they have good selection of games. Definitely recommend it :)
P. F.
Amazing place! So many memories from all the retro games. And everyone is so respectful in terms on making sure they don't hog the games
P. R.
Like the free entry but the drinks were overpriced and the variety of the machines was extremely limited. I much prefer the Arcade Club in Bury.
H.
Nice little place! Lots of retro games to play. Drinks are a bit on the expensive side though.
D. M.
Nice place, nice vibe. Fun retro games. £5 for a beer, a little pricey but i guess that is the way manchester is going these days
T. D.
I like the concept and there is plenty to go down memory lane but I thought 4.80 a pint was a bit much! Also, £5 worth of tokens was gone is about 10 minutes
C. A.
Decent size place. Enough arcade machines and free consoles. Highly recommended for a retro gaming experience
H. G.
Great retroarcade... A pity that the best they have is in men's toilet, The Punisher. Totally recommend for a few drinks remembering old days 😉
N. U.
Really good fun, but was VERY busy on Saturday evening. Some of the machines are a little beat up, and some are your tokens :(
D. G.
Amazing bar with great selection of games/... good drinks and friendly staff very fun place :)
B. C.
Great place to visit. Drinks were a bit pricey but not crazy. We will be going again!
B. B.
Absolutely loved some of the throwback games. Could do with fixing the steering wheel on position 3 outrun game. But otherwise I had a blast.
C. D.
Absolutely brilliant, retro video games and a bar , definitely a nerds dream, definitely recommend.
C. V.
LOVE IT. Such a good concept. Everyone I saw in there was happy and just loving life. The staff are a great asset and just down to earth.
D. A.
Great selection of games, reasonably priced drinks and a 80/90s hip-hop soundtrack. What more could you ask from a bar.
C. B.
Entertaining and a bit of a laugh. Quite small but some good nostalgia from the retro games.
E. B.
so much fun, wide range of different games to play, classic beers in cans, just all in all a great night
L.
Very good selection of retro arcades and consoles with the perfect choices of games. Felt like I was in 95 . Atmosphere was authentic.
L. P.
A lovely place to have a drink or 2 and play some classic games! Highly recommended.
j. h.
Amazing cocktails, old school hip-hop and retro games... What more could you ask for!
L. R.
Awesome arcade bar, slightly pricey although what can you expect in the middle of Manchester
J. J.
Reasonable drink prices, excellent game prices, but most importantly an excellent range of arcade and console games to play
L. B.
Never been before and was a good night and fun playing the old games
B. P.
Fun Funky Funhouse. Great selection of games. Good music and drinks. Worth its money.
M. M.
Cheap to play (15 tokens for £5 - 33p play!) and a well stocked bar. Great night!
L. B.
Fun but busy
S. H.
Really great place but the machines need a lot of servicing. Reminds me of an 80s film bad guy hideout in a cool way
t. n.
Really good place. Enjoyable but the cocktails are a bit too expensive anr lacks traditional cocktails.
S. L.
Good fun but a lot of queuing. Would do well to swap out certain games every so often to keep it fresh
C. D.
Amazing bar and venue concept. Absolutely loved my time here and definitely will be back.
R. S.
Really cool quirky place with some really good games!
S. M.
Really good drinks are a bit dear and it's a little small would definitely go back though.
S. E.
Fantastic little retro gaming bar in the heart of Manchester. Low ceilings can be bothersome for anyone over 6', however.
C. O.
Cool place for retro games and arcades. Great for a little dive into the past.
J. H.
Retro games. New drinks. Great fun.
L. B.
Amazing place with a very unique take on a night out. Cocktail selection is minimal but we'll selected.
D. A.
Really fun place, good drinks and friendly staff. Recommended.
D. D.
Amazing games.... Would recommend for lads night out. Had some absolute memories here
p. l.
Very busy and music is way too loud but the nostalgia in playing old school games is very appealing
S. (.
Brilliant retro arcade bar with a great variety of games and drinks!
J. H.
Great fun and not so expensive, even if some of the machines don't work.
T. P.
Volume is low or off on all the cabs for the majority of games. Low grade non-contemporary hip hop blaring out.
T. K.
Good I like it but I thing what is missing is new era games and consoles like vr and so on.. From zero to hero😅
L. P.
Good variety of games, but smaller than I expected.
R. H.
Needs more machines, good for the size
Z. p.
Great place to chill and feel those nostalgic vibes
M. M.
Only takes card, which is stupid.
Good games tho.
W. C.
Great way to kill a few hours, really fun place, friendly staff, huge selection of games to play
P. D.
Great place great aracdes loved it but too many ppl going there thinking it was a trendy new bar expecting something else
C. S.
Great variety of arcade machines, and the consoles (SNES, Megadrive, N64) are free to play!
D. F.
The arcade games are pretty nice but they are drowned out by the incredibly loud music.
J. M.
Pretty good, would be nice to see some newer games too to keep patrons interested.
9. m.
Put simply, An arcade where you can get smashed 👌
I. L.
Really nice bar/arcade and a great place to visit on a night out.
I.
Honestly a fun day out cheap enough great laugh perfect for date night or a piss up
P. S.
Beer and classic arcade and video games. At a reasonable price. What more can you ask for.
A. W.
It's great to be able play arcade games from my youth. 😀
B. L. (.
For a fiver, you get so many tokens to play games with I'm so suprised. Great underground vibe.
J. M.
Average selection of beers, their main selling point is lots of arcade and pinball machines to play....
A. G.
Decent place, nice idea, very pricey drinks though!
A. M.
Great place, not a fault just busy every time we go.
O. B.
Awesome place where gaming and drinking comes together. Makes for a great date.
