Reviews of Pie & Ale
L. H.
Great selection of pies and funnily enough beers too. I'm into my Belgian beers as well as some British microbreweries so I've tried a good few here. As well as the odd drink deal we had 2 cocktails for £12.50
N. W.
I haven't been in the Pie and Ale for about 4 months because I no longer work in central Manchester. It hasn't changed. Its still as good as ever. The staff are as friendly as ever and the pies are amazing. Continues to be a favourite and this is why I'm having my wedding reception here.
Really good selection of craft beers at reasonable prices. The food is delicious and worth visiting for the pies alone.
P. M.
Came here as part of a large group and the food, drinks and service was impeccable. Great tasty pies and they also show sport
S. W.
Hit on this pub by accident, I was looking for a pub that had both food and decent beer. This hits both with an excellent selection of home made pies (+others) and at least 4 cask ales.
j. c.
Would have taken photos of the food but it was too delicious to keep hanging around and needed to be wolfed down. Really recommend this place, great drinks, awesome food - my turkey was delicious- and helpful friendly staff too. I will definitely be back here again.
J. C.
Great atmosphere.
Great food and beer selection.
Shows the football.
Very friendly helpful staff.

As a solo traveller, sometimes I hesitate going to a restaurant that is too busy. I was there at around 8pm on a Sunday night. Not too busy, quiet enough to enjoy my meal. The ambient was lovely and music was not too loud.
The waiter was very nice and kind to explain and answer my questions. I went there for PIES but I chose the sunday roast pie eventually and it is a stack up open pie with puff pastry on the bottom and top it with creamed leek, roast beef (or turkey or veg option), mash potato and yorkshire pudding, alongside with some roasted veggie and of course gravy! I would say I eat a lot but the portion was quite big and I could not finish it 100%.. probably 90% with a 5-month pregnant belly when leaving.
I also asked for some recommendations on beers which are from Manchester breweries. Tried the Shin Digger pale ale and Arbor Mosaic and both of them taste right! Glad that I go for Shin Digger first as it is more crisp and fresh to have alongside with the pie. The Arbor mosaic is a gluten free one which I am literally surprised.
After all, it was a nice Sunday casual dinner and I enjoyed myself good enough there. Would love to return and try their mixed grilled pie (which the waiter recommended for meat lovers. As well as the tikka masala one)
L. N.
Absolutely exceptional pies and drinks. Great Venue. Will certainly be back .
E. H.
The pies are absolutely delicious! I have been several times and every pie has been amazing! My personal favourite is the steak and ale with the dirty mash! They have a big choice of ales (its in the name!) One of our favourite spots in NQ.
M. C.
Fantastic place. Visited at the start of December and ate from their Christmas Menu and absolutely loved the food.
Everything was very tasty and well worth the cost. All the staff were friendly and attentive.
Already looking forward to visiting again when I'm next in Manchester.
F. R.
Delicious yummy pies, the best I have tried so far! Super friendly staff, we spent an amazing night dining outside. I can't sait to go back to try more.
D. M.
A great selection of pies, the two our table had were both tasty. The beers on offer were ok but could have been a higher class of breweries on offer in my opinion. They were ok but nothing special.
R. W.
Wonderful Sunday roast. Filling, tasty and not too fussy.
I had beef, a friend had the vegan option, both were amazing and for under £10 each.
Highly recommended.
C. M.
Great place, good choice of beers and outstanding pies! Had the Cuban style pulled jackfruit. Stunning. The best veggie pie I’ve ever eaten by a mile! Service was great too.
C. K.
Pie and mash is great comfort food on a cold day and eating here is fantastic. The restaurant is relaxed and on a weekday night we weren't rushed at all. I had the goats cheese and beetroot pie and loved the crisp pastry with a tasty filling and the creamy mash. The photo is pie and fried potatoes. Good house red wine too and served peppermint tea.
N. J.
I had a pie and an ale. What more is there to say. I had the steak and whisky yippee pie with mash potatoes on top and gravy. I was shown to a table and once I decided on my food I went to the bar and ordered it. That was the difficult part deciding what I wanted an walking to the bar after that everything else happened at my table. The food was brought to the table and I was asked if I wanted another drink and once I had finished I was asked if I wanted a sweet and I could not resist the sticky toffee pudding. I am not going into details about the food but with the wide choice of places to eat in Manchester all I will say is 5 stars and I will be going back again and again.
B. L.
I really liked it here. I had a venison pie, which was really good. The pastry on the pie was especially good and the gravy was cracking. The beers on tap were reasonable, I had a very nice liquorice porter which was a nice match to my pie. I'll be back.
c. c.
This place is great. The food is quality and the presentation is epic. Only been here once so far but defiantly going to be going again. The service was friendly and the prices are reasonable. My and my.mate had the all day breakfast pie and would recommend it to anyone.
L. C.
Nice and tasty pies! Good quality beers and also ingredients. Also the service is very good and staff very friendly!
M. P.
I've never been a fan of British pies, but I must say that I enjoyed the steak pie they served. I also tried their "Pie'll be back" beer and loved it. Nice place.
J. A.
Great food, Great selection of beers, good location. Went on a Saturday afternoon and had a sharing plater plus a few pints, then shots and left completely satisfied. The plater selection sounded great, tasted even better and was just right in every way after an afternoon in the Northern Quarter.
C. W.
I want to go here again. Immediately. The pies are served in large and delicious portions with added dinosaur biscuits. I may go again right now. Was also buy one get one free on Sunday roasts when I went!
C. J.
I went here last night (Aug 2021). It was alright. Not bad. Not bad at all. But just alright. For a place specialising in pies and ales, I've had nicer pies both at home and in other pubs with broader menus, and I've had better beer at pubs nearby. The filling (chicken and mustard) was a bit bland, pastry a bit dry, mash a bit dry, gravy a bit thin and bland. None of it terrible. Just... alright.
I went to Port St Beer House and had a nicer pint. I'd go to Bay Horse Tavern next time for a nicer pie.
A. L.
Excellent service and the best pies i have ever had
L. S.
Lovely atmosphere, great selection of beers and ciders and a brilliant roast! Vegan friendly and carnivore friendly.
J. J.
As I was saying, the pies were gorgeous and the beer thorough and wet.
It just so happens that my wife gave birth to our third child right there and then Infront of the bar. The staff, without hesitation, quickly delivered my third beautiful daughter safely and with the skill and elegance of a tenured midwife.
Can't fault them will come again.
D. S.
Excellent choice of pies. Very filling. Best I've had.
N. T.
Nice place bit hard to find. A bit expensive for what it is but would recomend. Friendly staff and plenty of nice beers. Good traditional British food.
K. B. W.
Oh so good. Happy hour drinks, great food, and a waitress who went the extra mile... or km... ? Loved this place :)
D. P.
Handy local bar, good range of ales and spirits and a decent pie should you wish to indulge. Good for post work drinks although they turn up the music later in the evening which gets annoying.
a. b.
Absolutely brilliant service food and beers
J. G.
Pie was average and quite overpriced. The venue was quite quiet with very little atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, but did not get anyone to checkin with the NHS covid app for track and trace.
I'm sure once covid is over the place would have a bit more atmosphere.
J. a. C. M.
Came here for a friend's birthday as a party of six. We arrived a bit earlier than we had booked, but they got a great table set up for us in ten minutes. The food was great. Really hearty stuff. Nachos were excellent and of course the pie and mash was awesome. We had 5 different pies between us (2 had the kangaroo) and then desserts. Service was friendly and drinks were delivered quickly? Short wait for food, but that was expected as they cook the pies to order. Would definitely recommend here and hope to return.
D. E.
Amazing pies and a range of local craft beers and IPAs to choose from. The atmosphere is great and the staff are very helpful and welcoming
A. W.
Really good pies served with possibly the best mash I've had. Would definitely recommend.
K. P.
Excellent service with a smile, food was absolutely yummy!! Had the sunday roast pie which was 👌🏽
K. A.
Quick and friendly service. Nice hidden gem in the Northern Quarter, which means it's never too full. Food tastes great, the only downside was that the mash served with the pies was cold and it did not come with enough gravy. However, I did get some extra gravy for free on request. Not bad overall.
O. S.
Amazing. Best pie I've ever had, hands down. Really chilled out atmosphere with lots of board and card games available for free. Good selection of craft ales. Lunchtime menu at £9.95 for anyone and a pint is an absolute bargain. I'll be back!
R. C.
The place is cute, drinks were good and the presentation of the food lovely. However, I was a bit disappointed with the pie filling, hoping for more flavor. I’ll have to go back and try another pie to see if others are more to my liking, but the mushroom almond pie was just bland. The gravy and nice crust made up for some of that, but I was a little disappointed.
R. T. (.
Loved the addition of being able to play chess while waiting for your food! Didn't have to wait long though, great beer, and wonderfully cooked pie and mash! Would definitely recommend! The staff were friendly too. The place can be a bit awkward to find if you don't know what you're looking for though.
C.
Quirky restaurant tucked away in the northern quarter. Really good food, with options for gluten free, vegan and others. Would definitely recommend. We didn't get to dessert as we were too full from the pies, but would come again to see what was on offer. They also have a great beer selection. Try it out, just for a pint after work or a full on meal, you won't be disappointed!
J. B.
Love it. The pies are amazing, gravy is fantastic. Mash is super creamy, the peas are top notch. I literally have nothing bad to say about the food. Downsides are that the place is so small it's difficult to ever get a table because of how busy it constantly is!
T. H.
Been here plenty of times. Great pies. Best I have ever had I think. A great selection and sometimes some exotic ones too. Beer selection is okay. Taps aren't the greatest and have an okay selection of cans and bottles just a bit over priced.
The other good thing is they have football on. Have it so if you don't like football though it isn't too imposing. All in all a good place in Manchester. PS. The rabbit pie is ace.
K. P.
Great pie. A wide variety of choice. Although maybe lacking a 'normal' boring pie for the less adventurous.
Good service, friendly and professional.
I had the Katsu curry pie. Had a nice kick to it.
Sunday roast pie is a great idea too.
P. P.
Superb lunch deal if you love pies just go here you won't be disappointed! Sluurrpp
E. B.
Amazing service, and great prices. Probably the largest single serving pie I have ever eaten. Huge selection of ales. 10/10 would definitely recommend. Also, great if you have vegetarians or vegans in you group because they have four vegetarian options, three of which are vegan. A+
J. F.
Great bar, great beer and great pies. Job done for me.
j. m.
Absolutely fantastic staff, Dan, Oliver and James and the chef were so very helpful! There were 12 of us in the group. And they made us all feel so welcome! The pies were delicious and the chicken wings were awesome! Highly recommended a visit!
E. M.
Been coming here for a long time, hadn't been for a while so thought I'd check it out again. Still very much what I remembered and hadn't put a step wrong. 3 vegan pies to choose from, loads of great beer, and even a vegan apple pie and ice cream. Left very full and very content. Cannot recommend enough.
H. G.
Delicious pies! Don't go upstairs in hot weather though! It was boiling up there, but to be fair I don't expect an English restaurant to have air con. Maybe invest in a couple of standing fans? Otherwise the service and atmosphere was excellent.
D. N.
Five lads trying to find somewhere to eat dinner in the NQ on a Saturday evening without a reservation - this was the first place that seated us straight away. They've got a good selection of real ale on tap, and the pies were pretty good too. 4 of us scoffed the lot, but one thought the pie had too much pastry. Can't please everyone all of the time though. Lively atmosphere and the staff were great.
J. M.
Great comfort food, well presented, with friendly staff and reasonable prices (considering the deliciousness). Choices for vegans and gluten-free, both refreshing in a pie shop! The hard-to-find down-at-heel locale does it no favours though.
H. R.
Table for one. Pleasant staff and ambiance was good. Had Venison & Ale Pie which was really delicious. Maybe could have done with a side of some seasonal Veg ☺
Plenty of Ale's and beer to choose from at the bar. This place caters for everyone loners, couples or groups. One of the down to earth and pleasant places in the Northern Quarter's
j. h.
Cracking food and impeccable service. Love coming here with my meat eating family as we can all enjoy ourselves.
I had the mushroom stroganoff (vegan), my mum had Steak, whiskey and Beer and my sister had a lamb something. All pies, all beautifully made and cooked.
I had the homemade apple pie for dinner and a swear, despite how full I was, I'd have had it again if we didn't need to leave.
G. C.
Didn't know what to expect. Had lunch with a few friends. At first I thought the prices a bit steep for a pie but when it arrived it was justified. Came with a choice of mash too. Even better there was deal on. Buy three get one free bargain. Really good beers too. An excellent selection of pies to choose from, delicious is all I can say.
P. L.
Real tasty food. Great beer. Herefordshire cider
A. W.
Slow service but the food more than makes up for it! Great vegan options on the menu!
G. T.
Booked a friend's Stag do in on a Saturday night. 14 of us. Table service was great. Great rotating ale selection and the house lager is top notch. Pies were large and mash was good. Plenty of gravy too. Reasonable final bill too.
A. H.
Great food, good beer selection and excellent service. Decent value (2 mains, 2 sides & 4 drinks for £40). Can also recommend the sweet potato fries & veggy options. Gluten free options available on request. :)
J. A.
Wonderful place. Great choice of pies. These are made fresh and taste amazing. Choices of different sides to go with the pie. Also vegetarian options available. Good selection of beer. Place wel designed, not loud and possible to book in advance. Very friendly staff. Recommend#
S. G.
Great beer, great pies, great vibe
C.
The pie was super nice and the pastry was perfect. I wasn't as keen on the mash although it wasn't bad. The staff were all friendly and polite and the prices were fair. The apple pie isn't sweet at all which was a disappointment. I would go back though.
J. S.
Good selection of pies. I had the vegan Jackfruit pie. The crust is quite crispy but I liked it, particularly with the red wine sauce. Pie may be a little salty for some people but it's complemented well by the mash. I would certainly recommend it.
G. W.
This a cozy bar selling good real ale and excellent pies. The smell of the pies being made is the first thing that hits you when walking in. There's a heated outdoor seating area, some booths and some less comfortable raised tables and stools. The pies are quite expensive, starting at £8 and going to £12, though they're all served with mash and gravy.
j. b.
Had a lovely meal here before concert at the Arena. Proper pie and mash for him and game and redcurrant stew for me. Even better with 2-4-1 with meercat but each about £11. Decent range of beers, nice g and t and quick friendly service. It will always stay in our memory tho cos Planet Rock called while we were there and we won £1000!!!😮😃😃
B. C.
Pepè and I had the best Christmas pie here. Absolutely beautiful.
C. P.
The staff couldn't be a nicer bunch that make you feel welcome. The decor is warm and inviting and the music is banging. Food was excellent- thoroughly recommend the Moroccan pie. Drinks selection is superb.
R. W.
Really enjoyed the gluten free casserole and the chicken wings and nachos done GF as well. Waitress was great and the food came quickly. Couldn't really fault it. Ideal venue for our works do.
T. B.
Ate here recently and had a lovely Rabbit and Cider pie. I personally really liked mine but some of our friends who had special dietary needs like gluten free and vegan weren't that impressed with what they received. But as a meat eater I thought it was great, albeit a bit quiet. Quite hot though in summer as I don't think they had any air conditioning, just a few fans plugged in around the place.
L. M.
First time in Manchester, looking for somewhere good to eat. We were recommended this bakerie by locals, who said it was good tasty food served in an excellent atmosphere, and all at a reasonable price.
How right they were!! Excellent food-Great Ale-Friendly Staff/ What more could you want.
I just wished they would open a branch in Cambridge!!
K. V.
This is a great bar, although it might be an odd one to find ticked in the middle of a building block I would highly recommend it.
The decor is nice and I like the topsy turvey feel of this bar, little sidewalks with booths and a bigger hall area, and a low roof upstairs balcony all make it feel like a small homely bar.
Lots of different drink choices especially when it comes to ale drinkers, they have a regularly rotating tap selection. They also serve other drinks rums, gins etc
The food has always been outstanding and although I have been eating there for a while now with friends it. Has always been to a consistently high standard.
e. t.
Good selection of ales, good atmosphere. Service friendly. However I ordered a pie and mash and the pastry was really hard and inedible. Think they need to employ a decent pastry chef to do their pies.
C. L.
Came for the Super Bowl party, brilliant atmosphere and staff with a superb selection of beer.
T. B.
Great little pie and ale bar. Staff were really friendly and prices seems about normal for the the northern quarter.
+ Yes they do pie take away! And they taste great.
Very trendy inside to!
D. A.
I have always really enjoyed the pie and ale... At the pie and ale.
It is not the largest pub in the area, so finding a seat can be a little difficult... But shouldn't take too long.
The pies are of a really good quality and they have a good range... It is thier selling point. The ales are also changed fairly regularly and there always seem to be a few of interest.
Dont be put off or confused by the outside, it's nice inside.
E. C.
Really nice service and delicious pie!
E. M.
Really good food, they have two vegan pies and one vegetarian one. A little spicy but really good. The place is a bit loud as it has a pub as well, but the staff is extremely friendly!
S. N.
Probably the best Sunday special in town. Two 'roast of the day' pies for £9.95. Generous serving size as well.
Six real ale taps and six standard taps with good prices across the board.
M. “. O. K.
Fantastic selection of beers, delicious pies and some of the friendliest staff I've encountered. If you like sport you can watch it on the big screens in the hall or if it's not your thing you can sit in the bar area. Well worth a visit. Lots of boardgames and comic books too!
y. m. (.
We reserved a little booth upstairs to watch the footie...had my little lad with us...perfect spot! The food was excellent..lots of it and tasty.....I had steak and ale...my boy had chicken tikka masala...who knew that went well with mash! The service was spot on! Food nice and hot 😊
L. C.
Best pie in Manchester! With vegan and vegetarian options too.
R. G.
"Does what it says on the tin"
Great choice of Ale, including their own smooth IPA called Yippee Pie Ale.
Friendly and helpful staff.
A great selection of pies (I opted for a very tasty Hunter's Pheasant pie), sides (loved the Dirty Mash) and a surprising selection of great whiskys.
S. D.
Pie and ale offers an excellent, laid back drinking experience, particularly after a long day at work. The food is class, though on the pricey side for some things. Poised directly on my commute route, it's perfect for me, and situated off the main road so not as directly affected by the crowds, weather or traffic when sat outside.
D.
Slightly disappointed that they didn't have a good selection of gluten free products for our party.
Portions were ok, pie was steaming but gravy was cold! Would have been a 4 star review otherwise.
V. L.
Very good and interesting pies. Very good selection of beer. A bit expensive like every NQ place.
Mondays are 2-4-1 but they forgot to mention on the adverts that you have to order a drink too, which is fair enough, but not nice to not be upfront about it.
C. B.
Pros
1. Many many beers as you would imagine.
2. They also sell pies. Nice pies.
3. Nice staff.
4. Laid back.
5. Show football without the idiots
Cons
5. Heavy crust to filling ratio for my tastes
S. W.
Pie was great, gammon and cheese or something similar, evilly good. Place was quiet but was Monday mid afternoon so would be, great beer selection, sadly I had a San pellegrino, bah!
H. N. H.
Meet up with the lads from the cycling team for a pie and some ale. We had a great time, selection of ales fantastic, the pies were made to measure. I had venison & stilton with mash, red cabbage & gravy. Yummy..
D. S.
Does exactly what it says on the tin, with a good selection of Ales and a non-stop menu of Pies, all beautifully crafted and delicious to eat. Only problem is it can be a little difficult to find, being situated just off Lever Street, effectively behind the main building.
A. C.
Really friendly service and nice staff. Great pie. Good beer selection. Dog friendly. Pleasant atmosphere away from the main NQ drag.
S. W.
Large menu of delicious pies, excellent selection of beers, staff is very friendly and if you ask why I gave 4 stars, the answers is: no connectivity. There's no network coverage and it's almost impossible to connect to WiFi. It's very annoying having to go outside to make a call or to text friends to say where I am, and not getting reply unless I stay outside.
G. A.
Nice vibe. Great beer. Had the rabbit pie which was good but a little dry (maybe cos rabbit can be). Beer was excellent. Will be back soon to try another pie.
N. C.
Not the easiest place to find but well worth seeking out. Does exactly what it says on the tin - pies & ale. Live sports normally on in the front bar if that's your thing, the 'proper' bar in the back is more like a traditional pub and always has a good atmosphere.
A.
The pie and pint of ale I had from here, and being from Bury I know a thing or two about pie and ale, was probably the best pie I have ever had. It was incredible, the beer was also fantastic. A must visit if eating in Manchester.
P. G.
Tucked away, but worth searching out. Usual friendly and quick service. Good selection of beers and other drinks.
l. m.
Great service and selection of ales. Def recommend the pies too
D. M.
This place has great potential. I haven't eaten here but as a bar the future looks bright! Fantastic space and good draft beers. When I went there was live music on which I thoroughly enjoyed.
L. S. W.
Their range of beers started at 3.2% for those seeking a session to the Porters at 5% (anyone who knows me will appreciate which beer I chose).
The staff are really friendly and helpful on sharing tasting notes of the beers.
We Enjoyed Sonnet 43 American Pale and SWB Teleporter and both were spot on.
Top food. Top beer Top Venue.

Went there for a private function. Wine was good (yes I know, it does ale), unfortunately the steak pie was more like carrot & steak surprise - lots of carrot, surprised if you find any steak.
C. V.
This place is great! Wide range of tasty pies and a good selection of beers. Super friendly staff :)
W. B.
Been today, used the Meerkat BOGOF.
Fantastic pies!!!! Bit out of the way but nice place and good staff. Ps mushy peas 👍👍👍
K. T.
Awesome food, venison and Guinness pie 😍. Broad variety of tasty beers, for all tastes. Only criticism: don't dilute the hand soap.
S. D. R.
Best pie I've ever had! Definitely worth it. On Monday they have a great special buy one pie get one for 1 pound. So so good
j. c.
A truly excellent place! If you like a pie or want some amazing local food as a tourist, this place is a must! Its a favourite place to go whenever i find myself nearby🤣
A. P.
Steak and ale pie was great, topped it off with jalapenos and blue cheese, great portion sizes and great selection of ales. Only negative is the weekly desert specials is only at weekends :(
A. L.
Absolutely amazing pies and a huge variety of ales. Does exactly what it says on the tin, and in a great location in the quiet end of the Northern Quarter.
A tucked away gem that I'll definitely be coming back to.
w. b.
Been today, used the Meerkat BOGOF.
Fantastic pies!!!! Bit out of the way but nice place and good staff. Ps mushy peas 👍👍👍
A. B.
Up there with one of the best pies I have ever had, good amount of gravy and the additional mushy peas were just amazing! Really good service and will definitely be back again next time I’m in Manchester!
D. C.
Ale a bit pricey, but very welcoming service and superb pies.
R. B.
Definitely not the quickest service but the food is good. Fillings are a bit sparse which was disappointing as you do feel your plate is filled with pastry but that's made up for by the beer. :)
L. B.
What a hidden gem. I went here with my beloved friend, Karen. Being both veggies we have a great choice and a lovely couple of hours. You can't beat a pie and mash anyday of the year!
S. S.
Amazing food all the time! Great ale and other none-beer options and excellent friendly staff. I come here loads because I love it every time!
N. M.
Been twice in quick succession (it's an ok spot to watch the football)
Something common to both meals - the mash? - the gravy? is VERY peppery. Like, there was a residual heat in my mouth after eating here?
No TP in either of the ladies loos
Can get quite full of "blokes" who've had a bit too much to drink
L. K.
Sometimes meet here with friends relax, nice place
C. L.
Just great. We had there sunday special pie and it was just great. Really good service and their food was great. Good selection of craft beer. This is a place i would visit again next time i'm in Manchester.
D. D.
Great food and great service, staff are all really friendly and attentive! Really good selection of ale and a good atmosphere, I would very highly recommend!
J. D.
Mouthwateringly delicious homemade pies! I had venison and stilton, really good portions and value for money too! Staff are very friendly and welcoming too
M. F.
Great food, definitely recommend the house beer, and the game and blubbery pie. Good vegan choices available too. Also, available on done card 👍
J. W.
Nice atmosphere and great choice of drinks. The staff were chatty and friendly.
J. C.
Good food and beer. Fine selection of pies and mash, very tasty. Good selection of beers. This place is tucked down a side road so you can miss it.
T. K.
Very good selection of pies and three vegan options which is amazing... Super tasty. Not too dear and it was a good pie!!
A. W.
Great pies and good selection of beer.
R. C.
Good real ale and fantastic staff. Always brilliant food.
N. P.
The best place in town!!! Friendly staff. Gorgeous food and ale!!

Good selection of Ales. Great pastry on the pies with a nice selection of fillings.
Spacious with lots of seats.
Good for group meets.
P. W.
Met up here with some friends. Good choice of beers and some really interesting and tasty pies. Veg portions are quite small - but then you don't come here for that!
T. I.
Pie heaven. Extremely rich and tasty pies, great cheap(ish) ales and a clean, friendly atmosphere slightly off the beaten track. Perfect if you want to meet friends as a group
M. M.
Somewhat hidden away in a new building between Oldham and Lever Streets, just north of Stevenson Square. It's a bar and eaterie in one, focusing on cask ales (six), and wholesome and filling pies. A variety of spaces exist in which to sit and enjoy; all are separated by walls or corridors to give added intimacy. There is a mezzanine upstairs level too. Recommended.
J. C.
Great pies and beer selection. A little on the pricier side re pies but the beers make up for it. Just pies go to pie Minster! For a great pie dinner evening this is the place!
O. G.
I have only every had drinks in here and its typically a leaving do, its a nice location, with a great outside space with heating so nearly always end up having a drink outside even in winter. Good place if you are doing a trail through town.
D. A.
Excellent. Superb food and great service.
L. R.
Was really not expecting pie to be that good. The menus do change and I went for a staple chicken and veg varient and it was absolutely awesome.
Plenty of food too even for the bigger ones like me.
H. B.
This is a very classy restaurant that you should visit, me and a friend went there on a Saturday night and it was better than I expected. We ordered breton oysters and sliced veal with artichokes. It was yummy
P. K.
Very nice pies and very nice beer. Went at lunchtime and it was quiet. What's not to like. Will be going back again.
D. L.
Hearty food and absolutely excellent service. Name of the place gives away the menu on offer here! Also show some sport on large screens, if that interests you, but didn't distract from the atmosphere.
M. H.
Great ales, we'll maintained pumps, clean lines etc. Their pies are amazing, too so if you're feeling peckish, definitely try one out.
M. G.
Great pies and good ale. Very dependable, and interesting pie fillings - there's always game on the menu.
C. S.
Cheese and Onion pie was absolutely amazing!
B.
Pie was lovely however don't go if you're really hungry....as half a scoop of mash and half a dribble of albeit tasty gravy didn't quite do the trick.
N. V.
Tasty pie and tasty ale, what more could you want? Great range for vegans
N. A.
Beer was expensive. The vegan pie I had had a good filling but the curls and pinches meant there was way too much pastry
J. W.
Love this place for a beer or a Friday or Saturday night. Great selection of beers, not too crowded and the food is great if you want it. Staff are always great too
L. C.
Bar serving hearty pies with a good helping of herby mashed potato. Was reasonably quiet on a tuesday night even with big screen coverage of the football.
A. '. P.
Lovely food, lovely staff, lovely beers and ales. Danielle was amazing and she deserves a pay rise the effort she put in and attention to detail was impeccable....did I say Danielle...I meant Toni
R. M.
A great bar, I’ve been a few times now and the food has always been lovely and always have a good selection of ales. We went in to watch the rugby and booked a table.
T.
Brilliant wish I had food there now. Great atmosphere brilliant bar staff. Tucked away on Faraday street this place deserves a visit
L. H.
Large selection of delicious pies, very friendly and efficient staff, loads of beers available. You can book and order ahead for large groups.
M. C.
Superb pie... good ales..
J. P. (.
Beers were good and the food tasted nice... The pie dough was verry hard on my rabbit pie, so it took some effort to get to the rabbit goodness... But worth it
R. H.
Cafe style dining. Pie was fine. Beer was fine. Can't complain. No rush to visit again though
K. B.
Service was very slow, we got sat upstairs and nobody came to take our order for about 20 minutes. The food itself is great, and their ale selection is very good.
M. C.
Absolutely gorgeous. Hate to say it, but it beats nearby pieminister, and even Stockport's own lord of the pies. I used taste card so it was a proper bargain
L. B.
Great pie and mash. And a lovely selection of beer
J. D.
Great beer selection, nice pies, good for watching sport. Advise booking a table.
J. H.
Fantastic pies - almost on a par with the Dunsborough Pie which is the best. Great service, great beer - well worth the visit
K. H.
Just had a beer here but found the place warm and inviting. Food looked lovely. Good selection of ales.
P. L.
Cosy modern pub with plenty of seating including booths, cheap drinks (happy hour runs until 8pm) and good food. Popular for after work drinks.
S. F.
It's beer and pies and big screens for the footy. I honestly can't think of anything to complain about. Good selection of beer as well.
R. D.
Fun place to hang out, v friendly service, large selection of alcoholic beverages and great vegan pies! What's not to like?!
T. H.

G. D.
The food was cooked to order. The staff are amazing. The tea was delightful. (The missus says the ales are tasty too!)
M. W.
Great little bar out of the way but very popular on the weekends, does a fantastic choice of real ales and bottled beers.

M. C.

A. W.
Great food. Friendly staff. Proper hearty, warming cuisine. Good selection of cask ales and bottled beers.
A. J. (.
Great prices, alwayd a good beer selection; "pies" doesn't cover it though. These are feasts inspired by the notion of pies.
w. w.
Really good Pie, nice Ales. Relaxed atmosphere. Staff is also very relaxed, so it takes a while to get you pie
S. P.
Good ale, good music and with it being hidden away down a backstreet theres a better clientele over the weekend than most of the other local bars. Foods good too.
M. C.
Great pies. Food took a while to come out, but this was the price of non-processed food. Will be back!
A. C.
Nice pies, very good service and a big variety of beer. I'm looking forward to try the desserts.
T. B.

Generic but decent as these things go. Kinda weird two room set up and no amazing beers on tap but not bad.
M. M.
Great food, wide selection of drinks, friendly staff, can't ask for more really. One of my favourite things about Manchester.

Not the largest of portions, but very nice food with a great drinks selection, including Delerium Red.
k. 1.
Fantastic place for drinks with an interesting vibe. Pies need no introduction and are amazing.
P. M.
Only just discovered this place, it's friendly, comfy and it might actually have one of the cheapest pints in Manchester city centre.
D. C.

One of the best places to get a pie. Avoid upstairs though as the ceiling is too low and it feels claustrophobic

L. T.
The location is hidden. You can easily walk past it from the streets if you are not paying attention.
The range of beer is good. Some permanent and some rotating. The range of pies are also good. They often have specials on, so make sure you check them out. You may want to order some peas or something extra if you have a good appetite. The pastry is solid and the pies are packed bit sometimes I needed a little more.
Issues I do have, is the difference in staff. I have been in and served quickly, looked after etc. Other times I feel like I am getting blood from a stone. I think this is due more to the experience of some of the staff, and the attention they pay.
You should check this place. The prices are fair and it has a good vibe.
