Came here to play a charity gig and the venue is sweet but drinks are a bit expensive and it is generally quite quiet in the bar on a Friday night
D. C.
Great place to see new bands drinks were reasonable prices and bar staff were friendly even when busy and only 1 guy was on you didnt wait long for a drink
A. D.
Great little bar. Staff welcoming and good selection of drinks.
c.
not bad priced, needs new sound system
S. E.
Nice little shabby place with good deals on drinks.
M. B.
class venue, cheap drinks, good music and a good time
V. D.
Really nice little venue, my only issue was it was card payment only and I didn't have my card on me only cash. So I could not buy a drink. Would be better if maybe they advertise they don't take cash.
J. C.
Fantastic venue for live music
N. H.
Very nice venue, multi storey parking next door. Decent beer and food.
Also good for live music. We saw a band called 10 Volt who were fantastic.
O. O.
Great place. Basement venue is small but fitting for the all nighter DJ event that took place. Good service from bar staff. Not too out the way from anywhere. Nothing bad to say about the place really.
C. J.
Went for Inego debut album release. What really good venue, really intimate and excellent view of the stage.
Prices are very reasonable
E.
Amazing venue - Amazing Artists. Card Payments only though, so be warned!
S. T.
Great little place so many different people all mingling along

Was ok. Live band was good until some rat needed sparking out 😂

Great little hidden gem, great drinks and best of all the menu is vegan, you wouldn't expect that, oj oh wow it's value for money, love this place

The Retro really cannot be faulted. Expressed as a mathematical equation:
TAKE 1 renowned music venue (The Chemical Brothers began their career here and 'Sin City' (the UK's oldest and most successful Punk/Goth experience) began here as the brainchild of punk hero, Scoot Trash!
ADD the current owner (Mark Armor - whose company, 'Dusty Pop' is one of Manchester's foremost music promoters) PLUS his hand-picked team of staff and technicians.
MULTIPLY the genres of entertainment (to include, comedy nights, open-mic music nights, quiz nights and, of course, the best gig and club nights) and DEDUCT the expected hefty price tags (look out for R-Fest, where 100 bands in ONE week means you can enjoy SCORES of bands for just PENNIES per band (literally!)
DIVIDE your time between entertainment activities by indulging in a delicious meal, courtesy of Manchester's latest Vegan sensation, 'This Charming Naan - and you'll have an experience that can't be EQUALLED!

Good place. Good beer. Good bands. The sound is not the best, probably not the engineers fault, the rig in there is ancient and needs updating. Some acoustic treatment on stage would help the cymbals to not be insanely loud. Some good monitoring would mean the band could be quieter and let the engineer put nicer sounds out of the PA.

Liked it nice staff good atmosphere
C. O.
Quiet but nice bar
A. D.
Retro indeed! This place offers great music and very good value drinks, the place is reminiscent of an old style rock pub. It includes a narrow bar downstairs where a lot of gigs and niche events take place, by far one of the best smaller gig venues in Manchester.
S. A.
yep they have some good band on here and a decent breakfast can be had also, beer is fine and the decor is well tired that said if your more interested in a good night out than fancy chairs this may be worth a look.
A. D.
Amazing food, great cocktails, all the staff were very helpful
M. M.
Pros: takes cards, decent selection, fair price, usually clean and central location. Cons: can be very busy at rush hour. the outside, while not the owners fault at all, can be a little tatty.
J. A.
Decent venue for live music, sticky floor, very good sound system, ok drink choice, food looked ok (we arrived at staff tea time clearly!) We would go see another gig there despite the column in the middle of the stage making it difficult to see at times.
s. p.
Was a gig in the basement small stage but good acoustics seats down one side and downstairs bar so all in all a nice little venue the band was amazing kind. The last clouds
A. S.
Ah Retro Bar....where would I be without your late night opening times and cheap drinks?! Have been to so many great club and gig nights in the basement space, including seeing a few bands before they made it big such as the XX. Its cheap and cheerful, and sometimes your feet stick to the carpet, but what it lacks in glamour it makes up for in friendliness, value for money, and a guarantee of a good night with mates. Great rock / indie jukebox too.
M. T.
Downstairs music venue. Good sound, smallish room. Couple of pillars that block some views of the stage. Bar is expensive, but a nice night out nevertheless.
a. s.
Fry up - cheap and cheerful w/ free hot drink => spot on for the price!
Went for drink and gig on a Friday night had a wicked time. Gig was punk, crowd was punks, all in all a bunch of the friendliest switched on mfs you could hope to bump into - let alone ave a few drinks with.
The Staff are efficient and up for banter, there's a pool table and juke box with the gigs taking place in the downstairs bar.
What a venue! Forget your local be a regular right here, up the punx, peace & unity xx

12/10!!! Worst part was not ordering enough.. chips are something else there in none better 😋

Great music, the venue was "cosy" but it was a good night out. There's plenty of parking nearby but it's Manchester so it can be pretty expensive.
J. A.
Super friendly staff, a new barmaid faith made our visit fantastic and we went off to have a great night, strongly recommend.
G. R.

Home to the monthly night Nyte Heet. An amazing night for those that like classic rock & hair metal.
Small, but a great atmosphere with a fantastic bunch of regulars.

Lovely relaxed venue, nice bar staff and good smoking area

Great venue for bands and casual times. Beers are a bit pricey for what the venue is. Toilets aren't great either
