Reviews of Sinclairs Oyster Bar
M. U.
15/06/22: Located in Shambles Square. Owned by Samuel Smiths. Dates back to the 16th Century. Survived an IRA bomb 15/06/1996 and was moved brick-by-brick 300 metres to the North, as part of the area’s redevelopment. Takes cash only. The rules include no phones, no juke boxes and absolutely no laptops. If you have to take a call, you should go outside to answer, just like a smoker would to have a cigarette, according to boss Humphrey Smith. The ban also applies to tablets and iPads, which cannot be used inside or outside. Very oldie worldie pub, dated and tired as opposed to traditionally authentic. Very cheap pints of decent easy-drinking ale!
P. G.
As usual, excellent value Sam Smiths beers in a convivial environment. Inside is quaint, if weather allows, good to sit outside and people watch. Minor downside nowadays is plastic "glasses", but not the flimsy type. Understandable, but regrettable these days due to the occasional idiots.
J. O.
The perfect pub: beautiful building with different characterful seating areas, friendly staff, great service, excellent beers (very cheap), delicious and very reasonably priced food. No noisy music or people shouting on mobile 'phones, just the sound of conversation and laughter.
S. J.
Love this bar as prices OK and always a good place to go, and one of the main reasons it was child free. However it appears that is no longer the case. You can't use your phones, which doesn't bother me, but you can listen to brats screaming. All Pubs should be child free. I go out to relax and enjoy myself. Adults only seems to be a thing of the past and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
J. M.
Absolutely love this pub.. infact I love this pub so much that I went twice yesterday 🤣🤣 the history, feel and atmosphere of the pub make is worth going.
I love the little rules as well;
- no phones
- talk to each other
- cash only
Give it a bash! Prices are brilliant too.
M. S.
Amazing food and also a nice and busy place! Loved it!
J. R.
Very unusual range of beers & lagers on tap. Cash only bar. Lots of outside seating, but you'll have to wrap up warm at this time if year!
D. L.
Always love visiting here, no mobiles. Excellent service, and a very affordable price.
I love the fact it's got a varied age group, from students, to senior citizens. All getting on very well.
D. C.
Traditional Samuel Smith's pub in heart of Manchester. Selling own brand of beer, larger and cider. Sinclairs Oyster Bar is part of the Shambles. Some of the pubs date back to the 14th Century. Steeped in history and the pub was moved from another location brick by brick. The Tudor pubs surround a large courtyard with a buzzing vibrant atmosphere
T. F.
enjoyed a couple of cheap pints sat outsde in the sun before footie
T. H.
Excellent traditional pub to call into any day of the week. The pub sits in Shambles square which itself has history going back hundreds of years. Great bar staff with fast service and a pleasant all round atmosphere. On top of that there's not many pubs where you can get a decent pint in the city centre for good value my pint costing £2.30 & other beers around the same price. Definitely should be put on your list if you have not already visited. Highly recommended.
D. P.
A very nice place to drink outside when the weather good they don't take cash only cards
G. W.
Good vibe, environment and the location is exactly interesting. Thry have outdoor zone to let you sit and look around and smell the scent of Manchester. It is best to go to this bar in a sunny day not cloudy or else you will feel a bit down with the church vibe at the back of the bar.
However, when i go there, there are some waitresses or bartenders who didnt look happy and show a welcome face to me and my group of friends, this can be improved.
S. B.
loved it here the staff were very friendly great atmosphere, cheap drinks, stayed in there all day as the rules kept most of the idiots out felt very safe the bouncers were friendly and did a great job. would defo recommend
P. R.
Takes cash only, has a lot of outdoor space for seats. Service was nice, wasn't too crowded when I went but on sunny days, I've seen it really crowded
M. O. T. M.
Very very old english pub. Lots of character. Cheap beer! Big beer garden in the heart of Machester. Loads of very interesting history to search about this lovely place too
C. V.
Had an excellent meal here on Saturday evening ! Lovely quirky pub, great food, really nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Will definately be back and recomend to anyone planning a visit to Manchester ☺️👍🏻
T. W.
Central location, local reasonably priced beers, quirky historical building. Pleasant staff. Have and would visit again.
M. P.
What a refreshing change a bar where you can talk and great drinks, without technology taking over. Boh please no swearing
P. S.
Nice proper traditional place to get a pint 🍺 from , but for some reason it is cash only , and you are not allowed to use your mobile phones inside. Otherwise great place with a pint for £2.30 👍
A. V.
This is one of the best pubs to go to in the Centre if you want a pint especially if the weather is nice. Beer is cheap
S. L.
Lovely pub with nice staff nice and friendly all types of beers worth going to
M. R.
you have to love this vintage pub! good beer at a reasonable price!
C. M.
A nice place to relax in the central of Manchester
L. ..
Lovely bar, which has a no mobile policy, which I love!!! It's nice just to chat and not have phones out!
P. H.
One pint of Samuel Smith's dark mild at a shocking good price of £1.34 now beat that if you can all breweries out there.
M. S.
You can sit outside in summer indoors winter lovely old pub .you must visit.
E. R.
Very cheap place but still nice staff and nice drinks. Would recommend (if you are able to actually find a seat) it’s always so busy
P. D.
It's quirky, but cash only is a bit odd these days. Beer selection limited to own brewery brand and not that great.... OK overall.
C. D.
Just popped in for a wee dram from the rain n cold. The staff were so lovely and friendly with us. So glad they saved the inn. Cheered us up no end. Cheers
S. T.
Such a cosy pub right in the heart of Manchester friendly staff an great food at affordable prices
T. P.
Great pub to visit always a fantastic atmosphere and even better location. Being a Samuel smiths pub they offer a number of different ales largers and stouts all at a great price. Even on a Friday night you can find a table with ease and I would highly recommend the place. Due to its brilliant location its a great pub to start the night off, why not give it a try you won't be disappointed.
S. “. T.
This is a quirky olde world pub right in the heart of the city centre,it's always worth a visit. Samuel Smiths Ales are very cheap compared to other venues. Its a cash only bar with a great atmosphere.
M. M.
How nice is this pub? a hidden gem and the new managers are really nice the Sunday roast was delicious
A. H.
Beautiful building cosy atmosphere friendly staff and good food would definitely recommend
D. C.
Good historical pub. Outside space is the best in town for people watching..
L. F.
Great day out as always. Great ale, very reasonable prices.
Special thanks to all the always friendly staff from door to bar who did an amazing job ensuring everyone stuck to the covid rules in an exceptionally polite and professional way. Highly recommended
K. B.
11 quid for 5 pints, bargain. But no atmosphere. The boss needs to tell the bar staff to smile, especially the little fat one with dark hair.
D.
One of the nicest atmosphere inside a pub in Manchester, the building is one of the oldest in Manchester, and they have a no mobile phone rule which I approve as it gives value to the social interaction. Compared to other places this one is pretty cheap as well, beware cash only!
D. N.
Old style pub with so much character, love the beer, love the decor... Perfect place to relax inside or outside at the beer garden
j. m.
Always enjoy this bar, we usually start off here, covid precautions was very good and the staff on the doors did a very good job, great drinks and good prices
M. H.
Great pub good local history 👍
o. b.
Amazing pub and even better atmosphere. Large choice of beers.
M. B.
Excellent busy pub. Staff do an amazing job. Good selection of lagers, beers and stout. Great value for money.
M. w.
Nothing not to like.Great setting great service great beer.Pint of lager £2.30 is a steal.Everytime I visit manchester I pop in for a quick pint.Always busy and always a good atmosphere.
D. F.
This pub is an institution in Manchester city centre. I absolutely love it! It has moved to exchange square, after the IRA bombings. It is now overlooked by the Manchester Eye,M&S and Selfridges. It is staggering distance from Victoria Train Station and therefore a great gateway to the city. The beer is amazingly cheap and the food good. It is fantastic in summer, when you can sit outside and watch the world go by.
P. B.
A really cool Pub with very cheap beer. We just paid 4 pounds for 2 pints of bitter. Also nice place to sit outside.
g. h.
Cheap as chips. Smith's is a lovely brew...
D. R.
Amazing decor All old features modernised
Very reasonable beers
J. P.
Beers with cash and history. No cards!
P. K.
Vibrant atmosphere and some lovely craft beers, cheap as chips too for the city center
M. S.
Decent beer, but ran in a very old fashioned way. No card payment which is bizarre in this day of age, not really an excuse not to have this in place.
a. l.
Decent beer at a decent price in the centre of town
C.
Always a nice atmosphere and good beer with possibly the cheapest prices in the centre of Manchester. Cracking pint of India Ale.
G. C.
Beautiful pub, oysters £2.80 each didn't have any this time . The Wiltshire Chicken and pie with vegetables mash and gravy was wonderful. Did wish to post a photo but they don't allow any techno in pub .
S. F.
It's got a Taddy expensive - not really. Old world pub, great spot for a pint and catch up.
H. C.
Quite busy but a nice location if you manage to find a seat outside on a nice sunny day!
t. l.
Great staff and a proper local in the city centre.
D. K.
What a lovely place. Friendly staff. Massive range of beers. Function rooms are amazing. Nicely situated in the center of Manchester. Beautiful day we had for a gathering of rugby fans. Seating area is massive too outside. Well worth a visit.
M. F.
Good for fans.Small and sweet. Very good beer. Tedy....or something similar.
H.
This is all we want to find in a typical pub!! Many choices of beers and ciders, with a lively atmosphere in a lovely place!
Wow, my last sentence was such poetic to describe a pub!
s. c.
Lovely central pub to meet friends and have a few drinks. Nice spacious outside area or lovely small and cozy inside.
N. L.
It's a Manchester classic watering hole,!
It's slightly quirky! It's cash only! Pushed towards sitting outside whatever the weather! (Fits Covid requirements)
Samuel Smith's beer at Currently £3 a pint
Well worth a try and just read how many times this pub has moved truly amazing!
J. S.
SO neat... like stepping back in time. The building is amazing. Great selection of beers...the staff let me taste 4 different ones before I made my choice! The patrons were very friendly, too. Looks like they have a huge outdoor area.
M. R.
Nice pub with a good selsction of beers.
Packed so don't expect to sit, but its busy because its good.
Things to know, no mobile phones to be used inside. And they only take cash, so make sure you got some.
There are a couple of place to pick up cash close by, so not too bad.
Really old and very classic pub look inside, with dark woods and photos all over the walls.
Prices are reasonable.
D. S.
Unbeatable Prices, nice interior and comfortable beer garden. The only thing for improvement I would say it’s the security staff. They could be not so rude or a bit more friendly when dealing with no dangerous and drunk customers.
D. T.
Lovely to sit out In the sunshine and beer prices are cheap compared to most places in Manchester. Quirky inside also.
A. F.
Unique old place nestled in between the modern city buildings. No mobile policy is a great idea. Nice pint.
S. F.
Pretty sweet pub with sound people and cheap beer. The beer garden is amazing during summer. Be careful to adhere to the no mobile phones and no cussing policy however. Samuel Smith may be on one of his trademark visits, and any violation will see the place shut down.
M.
I make a point of coming to this pub whenever I'm drinking in Manchester, even if I'm at the other end of town! Awesome pub, awesome beer and awesome prices! The fact that you can't use your phone inside is a breath of fresh air so chose who you go with wisely, no one wants to be sat with a boring arse.
T. B.
Nice enough bar and it's lovely to be able to sit outside in the seating area if the weather's fine.
L. “. M.
Had a great night, loads of outdoor tables but they seem to close around 9.30 even when really busy on a Saturday, very unusual!!
A. T.
Not been in Sam Smith's pub for quite some time and fancied trying their mild. Beer was in good condition but the place was quiet for a rainy Saturday afternoon. Lots of nooks and crannies in this old place and it has some character at least. Having read the utterly ridiculous and draconian rules now enforced with regards to language and us of technology I won't be buying their beer or using their pubs anytime soon
R. M. C.
Superb piece of historic Manchester amid the modern glitz.
Sensibly priced beer in lovely surroundings with atmosphere.
No tele, no music, no swearing, no mobiles! What a refreshing change to enjoy conversation. If you go into any Sam Smith's pub, you get into conversation in a few minutes.
S. R.
Good beer, good price and the food was good too. Lots of goodness - no intrusive music and a ban on phones, laptops and swearing. Staff smiled and chatted, made a great place to have a meeting of old friends.
G. N.
I love this pub! Great prices but the strictness on phones is a bit annoying. I get wanting to get people actually talking to the people they came with but what's the point if you're sat on your own waiting for the other person to arrive? My mate had to cancel and I didn't know for ages because the staff kept coming up the stairs to say they could see me trying to use my phone on the CCTV 😂
L. H.
Great atmosphere any time of day, amazingly priced and great beer.
C.
Lots of rules but still one of my favourite pub in Manchester. Rules like don't be on your phone, which is OK, but I also wasn't allowed to half sit/half lay in the couch, I had to sit straight up. Anyway really cheap pints, and great atmosphere. Gets busy on the terrace when the sun is out.
E. M.
The visit is worth it because of the history of the pub but the quality of the beer is not very good however is really cheap. The security staff is very rude. Good for people from outside Manchester that is visiting the city but if you are a local choose another option, Manchester is plenty of incredible bars.
P. L.
Great beer at a really good price, highly recommend.
J. M.
Cheap Beers. Especially for Manchester.
We always use this for our starting pub.
LOVE the fact they have a NO mobile phone policy!! Great Idea. So if your glued to your phone's. 1. Get a Life 2. I would avoid here because they will tell you to put it away or leave.
S. B.
Great place, located in a beautiful building and location. Friendly staff and great prices for drinks.
A. B.
Love it! Lovely staff, lovely location, lovely clientele.
Great beer, great pie. Highly recommend, and don't bother with the other two pubs on this square, just stay here.
And it's owned by Samuel Smith's Brewery, which is unbeatable on price.
L. L.
Great Sam Smiths pub with old traditional decor. The rooms inside are cosy and I like the bar upstairs but it doesn't seem to be open all of the time. The seating area outside is always busy especially on warmer days. The prices are so cheap and the lager's great. I usually pop in for one drink and usually end up spending a few hours there, nice and relaxed place.
G. W.
My work colleague & I came here for an after work drink. It's a warm, old fashioned kind of pub with plenty of beers to choose from.
The inside is rather cramped, but it has a large outside seating area, although that's better suited to the Summer months.
Two things that let it down: it doesn't do Guinness & it's a cash only bar. However, since I wasn’t paying, I can't complain.
S. D. J.
£1.34 for a Samuel Smith's Dark Mild!
Though nice, the young bar people were not the most inviting
C. S.
Great beer(Sam Smiths hand pulled) and a warm and sunny afternoon at affordable prices and good staff.
L. S.
Great! Only accepts cash - not a problem as cheapest pint is £1.33, but cheapest drinkable lager is £2.60 - still good price. Nice friendly atmosphere but really strict on drugs. Friendly bouncers and bartenders and peers that you can join on a game of cards anyday. Big smoking area where u can bring your pint out accessable through two doors with umbrellas as protection from the rain.
A. D.
This place can be a really nice afternoon bar with a large outdoor area allowing for a nice afternoon relaxing pint (weather permitting!). A few decent beers, but unfortunately succumbs to my oft hated caveat of serving in plastic glasses. Unfortunately I've not had much to say about this place in the context of an evening venue since even on the weekends it closes very early (I have no idea why).
L. G.
Cheapest pint in Manchester! The brewery is independent with very tasty lagers.
A. F.
Fairly cheap, a good selection of beers, great beer garden and beautiful historic building
y. l.
Great place for a beer and outside seating area. Always visit here when in Manchester.
J. M.
Incredibly cheap beer/cider and amazing outside area. Was actually warm for once!
S. S.
Best lager in Manchester hard to find any better.
V. B.
Great bar, friendly staff, sit outside and meet people in the sun.
A. L.
Hugely popular bar that is constantly busy. Great locale in a lovely building full of character. The only downside for me is the lack of choices for drinks. If you like your ales, bitters and lagers, you're fine.. but if you're like me and needing a sweet drink, you'll be hard pressed to find one.
J. E.
Real Beer, Real People, Real Good Time. Its hard to complain about this place, unless your up your own backside! Take a seat, enjoy yourself! The drink is cheap, can get busy but that only adds to the charm, its busy for a reason! all walks of life come here, from the locals to the tourists. Less than £2 a pint, you cant go wrong!
L. L.
Cool pub, located in the heart of the city centre, historic building, unique atmosphere, outside seating, friendly staff. Local, great and cheap beer.
I'm not happy about: cash only, plastic glasses, also often overcrowded but yeah, I understand why :D .... So still 5 Stars.
R. P.
Cheap and varied ales, beers, lager, cider. Unusual choices, excellent prices for a city centre or anywhere really. Not much indoor seating. Great for a few drinks as a meeting place.
R. K.
An old building relocated to its position now in the centre of Manchester. Samuel smith pub so some great prices and a nice old world environment.
g. t.
Sam smiths pub but 'roided up for city centre. Sam smiths city centre vibe.. Like crocodile Dundee when outback guy goes the city if you get me 🍻
A. S.
Good oldy worldly place worth a visit
0. S.
Beer was good
Not too keen on the food. I’ve been on the toilet for hours. Could possibly have been the beer.
s. h.
Great olde world bar, good selection of ales and of course oysters 👍
S. “. M.
Medium beer but great style.
Only cash! But beer is cheap!
P. H.
We were there with probably 1000 other Iron Maiden fans. The place was packed, yet service was extremely quick and at £2 per pint we stayed for more than the hour we'd planned. The only grumble I've got is the toilets are upstairs and I really struggle with stairs due to dodgy knees. Aside from that, I love being in Manchester and love this bar.
S.
Loved this pub. Very cheap and cheerful but there's rules here, if you go outside, you have to sit down and not stand up. (Quite shocked that the doorman asked us to sit down), but still a great pub with great atmosphere
V. G.
Its a traditional pub old fashioned where the bar tenders aren't welcoming. The food order is a big let down. You need to order at a separate counter. Didn't find anyone serving alcohol on the first floor. Counter was empty. Keep this as your last option if you are new to this pub and just wanna try something fancy.
D. M.
Love this pub cosy atmosphere quick to get served will be popping in again.
I. R.
Cheap and cheerful. Wonderful sun trap. Always busy in the sun, or lively old man pub in the rain. Only negative would be the lack of selection of drinks if you don't like beer.
E. B. d. D.
You may ask yourself what makes this pub unique, as soon as you check your mobile phone you will now it. Varied types of drinks and affordable price. Settled in a good location. Recommended!
T. W.
Great Chatacter pub in the heart of the city centre, cheap drinks too.... bonus
C. l.
Great for a few beers and food while out shopping or on a night out. Always a great atmosphere and fast service at the bar no matter how busy. 2 pints for less than a fiver, can't beat it!!
J. D.
Plastic glasses and not even allowed to send single online message when sat alone on phone before staff are all over you.
It was dark and raining too. And no cover outside where people smoke.
No sitting on smart phones is all very well but put a shelter up outside or reserve an inside corner for quick taxi orders etc!
P.
A Manchester "institution" particularly on match days and when the sun is out. Large beer garden to catch some rays with some luck. Drinks are all locally made (Yorkshire) and very well priced. Only downside is plastic glasses are used at all times when sat outside but a small concession for a pint at £2.30
o. d.
Cheap ale but overzealous door staff. Cash only in a covid environment when most othe bars are card only.
D. M.
Great velue drinks in a f as ntastic looking building with large outside space. But the barstaff can be rude and will stop you using your mobile phone even for texting whilst inside. What's all that about?
G. B.
Great place. Great selection of quality beers and great prices. The staff are so welcoming with a hint of Poland. Always welcomed and a credit to all of the staff.
A. B.
Good value drinks
S. E.
Sinclairs is a place you must visit when you go to Manchester real ales idyllic place to watch the world go by in a town centre as metropolitan as Manchester well recommended
S. A.
Great pub and atmosphere be careful very strong beer
G. R.
One of the most typical pub in England. Cheap and delicious craft beer.
PS you're not allowed to use mobile devices in the place. The essence of the pub (public house)
J. R.
A typical old city centre pub. Small rooms & outside tables. Many beers on tap. I love the Stout, for a winter brew. All the prices are .... 😊 very reasonable.
B. D.
What a pub. A must visit if you're in Manchester city centre and fancy a few crafty pints, The Oyster bar is great value and superbly located. Just outside a major shopping centre you can get a pint of bitter for less than £2, happy days.
Yes the pint pots are plastic; yes it's usually very busy and yes you can wait a while for a beer, but who cares. The beer is of as good as quality as some marked up dishwater in a hipster pub.
The perfect location for a post work pint.
S. C.
Nice pub as it is one of the oldest in Manchester 2 floors comfortable seats upstairs very cheap drinks £2.30 taddy larger! Staff ok but is busy toilets ok no toilet seat though which ain't nice! Place is really nice and suitable for all ages.
W. G. (.
Small Samuel Smith pub in heart of Manchester with large very popular beer garden. Drinks very cheap served mostly in hard plastic glasses. Don't think they do food anymore. Biggest downside is they must have the most unfriendly bar staff, mostly East European I've ever come across. If the cheapness of the drinks outweigh the staff, give it a try. Arguably the oldest pub in Manchester.
M. M.
Fantastic wooden framed house that has survived being dismantled and then moved twice in the last forty years. Now just off Cateaton Street it enjoys an extensive outside drinking area with the next door Wellington. Low ceilings, and plenty of oak paneling and beams tell the history of the age of the place. Lots of drinking space upstairs too. It is a shame it no longer sells cask ales, and that it uses plastic glasses, but still hugely recommended.
G. H.
Currently undergoing renovations. However does not detract from the fact it's good cheap beer and could spend a whole evening in here. Just make sure you get a comfy seat.
M. F.
Two decent pints and crisps for under a fiver in the heart of Manchester. great looking pub, genuine history and so what if they don't allow mobiles or swearing. Get over it.
J. W.
Where else in Manchester (or anywhere) can you get two pints of stout and a packet of crisps for well under a fiver? The outside can get a bit loud and busy but the inside is a haven of ye olde worlde pub charm. Warning, however: swearing is banned. Unless you do it quietly, so the staff can't hear you 🤫
R. M.
Excellent beer 🍺
Different taste.
Good one
A. H.
Excellent real ale bar at decent prices for Manchester City Centre. Well positioned near the Arndale centre and close to Victoria, the Cathedral and the Football Museum. Not too far from the Manchester Arena for a pre-concert drink.
G. A.
Excellence in both food and drink. Really good bar staff and the ambience is lovely , when it's quiet! Love the fact that mobile phones are not allowed to be used inside
S. R.
Keywords: Old, bombed, lifted, moved, cheap, drinks, own brand, cheap, History.
If in Manchester this is a must stop visit. It's the only place you can buy 2 city center pints for less than £5. Is it posh, no; is it clean, maybe (take wipes); is it fun, cheap and interest, yes. Be warned its a cash only bar as of 2ish years a go, make of that as you will.
B. B.
A great atmosphere with really cheap booze and a good location. You'd be hard pushed to find a better beer garden to sit out in on a nice afternoon - if you happen to chance upon one while in Manchester.
G. C.
We REALLY enjoyed drinking here. High quality cider and lager.
I. H.
While I agree with the anti-mobile phone and foul language stances taken, all the laminated warning posters on every walk are a bit much and detract from the atmosphere a bit. The beer is as good as ever though.
J. B.
Really nice food at not very expensive prices.
Very nice inside.
G. W.
This is a listed pub on a busy area of Manchester and has very low prices and as such its usually very busy. There's often a lively atmosphere and on summer it can get pretty rowdy. If you're in the area and looking for a quick drink is worth going
M. H.
The new Sam Smith's rule on not using phones in their pubs is actually pretty cool. You get to enjoy the atmosphere (Especially in Sinclairs) & possibly even get a date you wouldn't have noticed, 'cause you were on your phone, if it wasn't banned 😊
J. G.
Great meeting place, not too expensive and a nice space with lots going on all around
D. G.
Large pub in the city centre with outside seating
J. L.
We originally started coming to this pub because it was one of the only one's in manchester that never allowed smoking inside, and after the ban it only got busier and better!
It reminds me of country pubs with low ceilings, decor from the 1600's and tasty beer. Best of all, in the winter it's always lovely and warm in there - a great place to hide out from the Manchester weather.
I've given it four stars - it only loses one because it always seems to close about 10:15/10:30pm - just as you're getting into the swing of things! So if it could stay open later then it'd get full marks. :-)
t. n.
Cheapest pint in Manchester! Always a great place to meet up before moving on. Not allowed to use your mobile phone inside the pub
M. D.
Cheap, just about drinkable beer drags in the crowds. More often than not the pub is packed and the queues long. Big outdoor terrace hits critical mass at the first sign of sunshine.
C. M.
Very good fish and chips
T. B.
It's a Samuel Smith's pub, so it's cheap, stupidly cheap, but the variety isn't amazing. What it does do well is serve well kept beer and let you escape into the big, busy beer patio. If it's cold or wet outside (this is Manchester, so that has been known to happen), the pub gets really hot and cramped very quickly.
P. F.
Some decent beers but it's too small. Always busy, because it's good, but far too much room given to the restaurant area, which is still elbow to elbow.
P. T.
Went to Manchester for gay pride weekend we sat outside as it was probably the last real summer's day we had only had a drink such was fine but location of the bar is great to people watch and just enjoy Manchester
J. B.
Warm atmosphere and good service
L. B.
Brilliant old school pub in the middle of the city centre. Really cheap booze, Samuel Smith's brewery owned so it doesnt have any "named" brand lagers, beers or spirits everything is the brewerys own.
G. J.
Great place for a cheap pint in the centre of Manchester. On a sunny day the seating area outside is packed. The interior is also nice with lots of small areas and plenty of seating.
A. B.
Great for drinking outside in the centre of Manchester but cash only.
C. W.
Great pub
C. D.
Lovely friendly staff, doormen great a really nice atmosphere
T. F.
Sinclairs is the home of ridiculously cheap and tasty beer in Manchester city centre. They sell their own product and you can easily have a good session in here for less than £20.
Outside there's a large beer garden, so if you arrive early enough you might be able to grab a table in the Manchester sunshine. Inside feels like your stepped on to the set of a Shakespearean play, in a good way.
Get here early enough to stake a claim to a table and then work your way through the beers.
S. L.
Beautiful historic pub, alot of character and a true treasure of Manchester's pubs. Busy on a hot day, lucky to find a seat, very welcoming. True Manchester pub and vibe
B. T.
Table service sat outside lovely weather following all covid Restrictions sensible prices .
M. K.
Still is the best bar in Manchester ,always go in sinclairs when in town
A. M.
Still high on my list of favorite pubs to visit. Sam smiths beer is delicious and cheap. And when its crowded. Its a great place to meet new people.
D. N.
Still a cheap city centre pint at £3.00 do mind your language and cash only, enjoy the low ceilings and creaky floors. Huge outdoor seating area it shares with the Wellington so an indoor seat is easy to get on sunny days and impossible on raining days.
J. B.
When I'm in Manchester with my friend we always call in for a drink before going home. It's a nice friendly place. Good staff a good drink plus decent prices
C. H.
Cheapest beer you will find in town, also the most lively beer garden you will find all year round. Can get very busy and they don't take card.
J. M.
A good atmosphere on a sunny day, but I found it fairly underwhelming considering the rave reviews. Also, while I understand it's not always feasible for small businesses, I think they should look into accepting card transactions in 2016.
p. t.
Its sinclairs what more do you need to know. Go visit. Try and get a spot outside and watch Manchester go by ❤
D. P.
Awesome in here, or rather outside of the bar in the courtyard 😁. Cheap, craft beers (£2.30 for lager) in Manny City centre. Allo! A must on a summers day.
S. H.
Great pub. One of the best priced pubs in the city. Always quick service with a huge outdoor area which will get busy if the weather is good.
K. L.
One of Manchester's true famous pubs with a pint of bitter at just £2 in January 2018. Usually very busy. Other breweries should learn!
G. S.
Proper pub with good beer
T. W.
Very difficult to post this as not allowed to use my phone!! Company policy nothing to do with management of this pub.
That said, cheap beer outdoor seating in city centre.
A. h.
Great pub beer is always spot on it can get very busy but the staff are quick so never a long wait. Only sells Sam Smith's drinks ( a good thing imo )
G. M.
Had a good time had a nice glass of red wine and lots of beer to choose from served quickly and good value had a atmosphere as the pub is very old would go again
L. T.
Great small local pub. Great prices and selection. Small inside area and large outside seating. Great old building worth popping in for a pint.
T. K.
Love this pub, huge outside area, brilliant for people watching friendly staff, loads of choices of ales and reasonably priced for a city centre pub 🍻🍻👍
B.
Great City centre meeting place, with excellent outside seating areas for drinking....👍🏼
E. J.
Interesting décor, very old English, nice beer, but the ladies toilets remind me if public ones as they're metal with no toilet lid! Very strange for an old English style pub!
a. j.
Amazing beer in a great location with a fantastic atmosphere. The price is pretty good too. Wonderful pub right in the heart of Manchester!
F. L.
Always visit Sinclair's when in Manchester. Situated in the oldest part of the city by the cathedral. Known as the shables, it as been relocated at least twice in recent years, The govenor is an adopted Salfordian standing around 6 foot 4,just about use too stooping low so as not too bang his head on the low period beams! The beer is Sam Smith's got too be the
best & cheapest in the country. £1 34p for a
pint of dark mild, unbeleaveable. Little quaint
rooms secluded, & open,on a sunny day great
beer garden. Real Sun trap! Bar food is available
You will find Manchester people are warm & friendly. 5 min walk from the football museum!
Highly recommend! 😎
S. M.
One of my favourite pubs in the city center, a great place to stop by for a post-work drink. The only problem is that it always closes fairly early in the evening.
J. A. B.
It is a good pub. Good food, good crafted beers. However it has the same problem that the other pubs around, the serve beer in a plastic cup... I though that english people k now how to drink beer.
R. B.
One of the top three pubs in Manchester. Great outside space, full of character inside, £2.10 a pint.
Cash only though!
H. K.
Sinclairs is one of Manchester's favourite pubs, and is the undisputed king of the beer yards. The beer is Samuel Smiths, ensuring a cheap but good quality pint. Inside, this rabbits warren of small cosy rooms is a pub with history, having been moved brick by brick more than once to protect it's existence. That is how much Manchester loves this pub
M. G.
When the weather is nice, the large beer garden gets super busy unsurprisingly. Decent beer and a generally popular and busy bar in a good spot.
T. A.
Used to be a fantastic atmosphere. Sadly the owner's draconian measures are seeing its decline. I suspect that all Sam Smiths pubs will succumb too.
B. M.
Samuel Smiths prices in the centre of Manchester with a large outdoor drinking area. It is no surprise that whenever the sun comes out this place is heaving. Rarely any trouble but get there early to grab a table if you are planning on staying any length of time.
R. H.
Small bar serving the best stout Ive ever tried! Outdoor tables to sit on nice weather and chat. A must!
P. F.
Excellent :) 2 Taddies please + a small cider
M. S.
A really good pub. Cheap beer and a great place to sit outside on a nice day. Gets very busy though
S. B.
Well known pub with a great atmosphere and a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices. Best to avoid if you're looking for somewhere quiet to unwind, but well worth a visit
J. B.
Old style pub in the middle of Msnchester. Has a good sized beer garden sitting on Exchange Square. The drinks are all Sam Smith. so cheaper than most but you won't find other brands here.
K. D.
Good central Manchester pub. Great prices. Always packed outside when it is sunny so hard to get a seat but as to be expected, it is a suntrap!
M. C.
Great bar and location. On this occasion I had lost my phone and the bouncers and staff got it back for me and kept it behind bar. They went well out of there way and il never forget yhat
M. C.
A brilliant Manchester institution!!! Outdoor seating, super cheap beer, it's really lovely inside!!! Definitely worth a few pints :)
S. H.
Had a great afternoon with old school friends, lovely bar staff
a. s.
This is my fave pub. It's Sam smiths you know the score. Cheap and quality. Probably the best example of capitalist economics of scale working for the people. And the staff bring the banter. 5*'s aren't enough
m. p.
Fantastic bar excellent beer staff could be a bit more friendly but all in all we enjoyed ourselves party of 4 we will be back. Thankyou
R. L.
Great idea ,no swearing or phones top.
O. N.
Sinclairs is always heaving at weekends, especially if its sunny because of its central location. The pub is a Victorian style building split across several levels with a large outdoor seating area. Watch out if you're tall because the ceilings are quite low! The drinks are surprisingly cheap considering the location but they only sell Samuel Adams stuff, which is OK.
A. G.
Brilliant place, good atmosphere. Cheap drinks but watch your change as been short changed by £1 on nearly every time we go in.
J. B.
Cheap Yorkshire ale from tadcaster only sell there own brand of everything a busy cheap pub with no music or frills in a nice location. Basically you get what you pay for so don't expect a lot
S. L.
Great place. Served very quick at the bar. Cheap beer and sun was out so beer garden was deffo the place to be :)
S. C.
Sat outside, didn't go inside but the seating segregation between the bars leaves a lot to be desired.
There has to be a more attractive way!
P. D.
Nice atmosphere, traditional English ales and lagers
c. n.
Loads of seating outside staff are friendly beer is cheap for Manchester the owners are great and it's biker friendly top place with top people.
J. W.
Lovely pub and fantastic landlord and landlady who do anything for u .
Bar staff brill and friendly .
Defo go there again with my family n friends .
V. U.
This pub is very friendly and cosy, on top of having the cheapest pints in town and a great choice of beers!
J. A.
A great historic pub. Cheapest pint around. No mobile's tablets etc allowed. People have to talk, that's novel.
H. H.
Love this old historic pub, cheap beer. Nice staff. Altogether good atmosphere.
S. R.
Nice bar with a vast range of beer to try and lots of outside seating. Good quick service and cheap prices.
q.
Lovely spot to enjoy a pint wether inside or outside. Great staff, wide beer choice and location is ideal.
M.
What a place! Very cheap and local beer which you can't beat. Very cheap and it's full of chatatcher. Highly recommend.
J. S.
Great place, went after the Iron Maiden concert and the service even though busy was brilliant. The beer was great too! Top place.
A. M.
Best pub in Manchester great staff always made to feel welcome love the place
E. O. M.
Cheap pints, nice place to hang out with friends on a friday evening.
J. I.
Always go for a few pints when it is fine so we can sit out and people watch. Beer is cheap and the place is always busy!
J. R.
Decent pub with cheap prices, shame the bouncers an absolute power hungry moron. Told me to sit down in the beer garden as I was stood up for more than a minute.
J. d.
Cracking olde worlde type pub right in the heart of the city, lovely large outside drinking area and great bar prices, £2.20 for Taddy lager, the only negative is that the majority of the male bar staff, one bald chap in particular are cheerless, miserable sorts
L. L.
Love Sinclairs. Met some fabulous people outside in the beer garden. Great ales at a good price. Lovely Landlord and Landlady and staff.
R. P.
One of my favourite bars in town... Good price for decent beer... The stout is amazing
A. L.
A classic Manchester pub with old English charm. If I had to take an overseas visitor to a pub, this would be it.
Good beer at reasonable prices. Recommended.
S. C.
Was absolutely heaving when I went, and I'm not a fan of their selection of beers. Nice building though, would probably be nicer when it was less busy.
C. B.
Great little (understandably not so little however excuse my phrasing) bar, pleasant atmosphere and delicious beers.
A. T.
Door men are lovely, bar staff need to get an injection of personality but over all great place to sit out when the sun is shining
S. H.
A simply fantastic boozer, its almost the best pub in central Manchester. Between this and the marble arch. Extraordinary prices for a city centre pub. An institution.
K. D.
This is by no doubt the best place in Manchester if you want a little bit of history a little bit of culture and a great price on beer
C. P.
Ah the Oyster Bar. Firstly and most importantly, it is a Sam Smiths. Yes, you can get a round for under £15 quid. Win.
The pub has moved several times, i.e. they have put it on stilts and moved it like something out of Thunderbirds. It is well worth having a little read about the history that is put up on the walls.
It is also bit of a great during the Christmas Markets. If you fancy a break from Christmas shopping, it is somewhere you can usually find a seat!
J. K.
City centre bar with a large seating area outside. Large selection of beers at a very reasonable price. Great on a sunny afternoon.
V. M. A.
Really nice bar, historical and with kind staff. Good prices and choices. Highly recommended
M. W.
Brilliant place to go for a drink 🍸
T. P.
A great Samuel Smith venue in Central Manchester. I'm yet to try their food but you can't complain at the drink selection and price at all!
C. B.
Good cheap beer but beware they only sell there own label alcohol. Food is good but they only accept cash.
B. H.
Delicious food and drink, amazing service. Overall excellent service.
M. F.
Beltin day out with friends..so good we never got to the Christmas Market lol..big plus...NO PHONES ALLOWED 👏👏 Had a good laugh with complete strangers..we will try to get to the market on the 12th🤣🙈
G. C.
I like this bar it's always a fantastic meeting point but I don't like Sam Smith s mobile phone ban.so one star less
J. K.
Too bad that the host has closed the pub because Schalke Fans have sung outside. The apology does not help.
By the way, it's supposed to be the cheapest pub in Manchester
K. B.
The place to be.
Historical pub. Local brew. Turns you back in time.
Value for money. Outdoor tables for smokers.
Highly recommended.
D. W.
Probably the oldest pub in manchester.been moved 3 times and lovingly put back together.a must go to if you like old pubs and cheap beer.a unique venue
b.
Great place to meet when the weather is nice. Limited drinks, but massive beer garden, very popular.
H. E.
Great beer garden and really cheap drinks, nice atmosphere and ideal if you're with a group.
R. P.
No phones and no cards. Quite literally a step back in time. Drinks are competitively priced, nice spot for conversation.
R. M.
Fantastic real ales and good, honest food at an honest price. The Best Bitter is amazing and only £2 a pint, I will be returning 😊👍❤🍾🍸
J. P.
Sinclairs is one of the busiest beer gardens in Manchester, and for good reason. As a Sam Smiths pub they exclusively sell their own products, meaning low prices and more importantly decent lager. I've enjoyed plenty of afternoons sat outside in the sun, or winter days tucked up inside the rustic building. Sinclairs is often a favourite for European football fans visiting Manchester for weekday games; with the large outdoor space and spill over into the square it's the pefect place to gather and get lairy. Bring back the oysters though!
o. s.
Nice vibe, cheap beer and full of noisy/excited people every day, Fast service and such a historical place. pretty good overall.
M. v. L.
My favourite bar in the city centre of Manchester. A lot if different rooms, where you can have a chat at a table over a pint.
M. M.
Great bar / restaurant in the centre of town. Cash only.
J. F.
Great little stop off. Looks a bit dingy and only served from plastic glasses because of the concert at the arena but the staff couldn't have been nicer.
V. M. G. E.
Great atmosphere and the cheapest beer I've found in Manchester without taking away quality of them. Dark beer is great.
A. R.
Nice pub with good atmosphere
J. E.
Great central location and loads cheaper than other establishments in the area. That said, it's not the fanciest, and my most recent visit was drawn unexpectedly short since they don't accept card payment.
S. t.
Great place to drink right near the city centre it does get crowded at times though
S. (.
Nice warm, comfy pub. Randomly serving drinks in plastic rather than glass, so I'm some respects must be rough as hell at times.
K. C.
I love this place!! Love their no phones policy too, means everyone is actually talking to each other - how novel nowadays!!
H. R.
Nice to be back best cheap pint in Manchester
C. H.

M. B.
Brilliant Sam Smith's pub with plenty of weird and wonderful people and the cheapest pint in the city centre. Tadcaster lager !!!
L. W.
Cheap place for a pub located in the heart of the city. The old building gives it a warm ambience and the drinks help you lose the tension.
K. G.
The cheapest beer around: Don't expect your usual brands, they're all Samuel Smith beers on offer (not the guy from the Bond theme, it's the brother of John Smith)
Don't blame the beer for your hangover though: £20 will get you about 8 pints of ale.
S. S.
Nice little pub. Very busy when the sun is out but very reasonable priced pints!!
