Reviews of SOUP
V.
Came here for a bite to eat and a drink. Very busy filled with students. Sat in the window and enjoyed a couple gins and some flatbreads and sides. Very tasty. Guy behind the bar was helpful and polite.
B. C.
Beautiful as always. Today I had Tom Yum soup and Mexican Beef brisket sandwich (and a cheeky lager)
D. B.
I came here to the dark small smoky basement dance floor on Saturday night to listen to some great techno and was not disappointed. Really good DJs (Pluralist was amazing), quick bar service, relaxed vibe and great crowd. Upstairs beforehand was cool too but quite a queue for the bathroom as it was really busy but I cant wait to come back here. No cloakroom though.
r. g.
Superchaud, cool and nice place with a great atmosphere. Not your typical, commercial night out. Hence, a would recommend to people who are more into techno, house, ... cool place.
H. B.
Classic Northern Quarter eatery. As it says on the tin, great soup. Great for vegans and veggies. But some for animal eaters too! Good selection of beers, very friendly staff. Canteen style seating, DJ booth and a decent sound system. Soup & a sandwich meal deal, and good prices on alcohol. What’s not too like 😉
T. R.
The toilets were very unpleasant (full of flies and no toilet roll).
The bar seemed well stocked with choices of ales.
M. O. T. M.
Really chilled and alternative vibe in here. Very nice selection of ales/craft/ everything else! Very tasty food. Reasonable for the city centre. Middle of the Northern quarter. Friendly staff!!
R. F.
Upstairs peaked about 7 years ago when they used to just do soup and sandwich. Downstairs peaked prior to club being rearranged, removing the stage and placing the DJ booth next to the exit, rendering half the club unusable. Still good.
K. G.
Lovely place, restaurant during the day, club in the night. The soups are delicious, as well as other stuff. Tere are some glutenfree as well as vegan options. Sandwiches are huge.
R. G.
Lots of seats, good selection of drinks. Wouldn't describe it as cosy but not so noisy you can't have a chat
L. L.
A hub for the arts, up-and-coming musical talent and host of great performance art. Soup has been supportive in so many ways over the past 7 years I've lived in Manchester. Keep on supporting this great place and the people who work so hard to make it this special.
g. a.
Great atmosphere, good choice of beers and good happy hour prices. Food was very good quality.
K. T.
Soup kitchen has always been a favourite of mine, the food is basic (not a bad thing) but tasty. It's cheap and comforting. Theres always plenty of vegan options and the drink selection is always great. They have great bands in that play too, Love it.
A. J. (.
Soup Kitchen serves food upstairs and serves live bands downstairs. Most of the photos you'll find on here will be of the food offerings upstairs in a bright, airy space with long communal tables.
No one photos downstairs. No one wants to.
It's a dingy, dark cellar with plenty of mould and damp, and the worst toilets this side of trainspotting. No one's there for the decor though, and it's continuing success is down to the immediacy and proximity with which you can see brilliant musicians for low ticket prices. It's not a place for the anxious or claustrophobic, but the only remaining original Stephenson's Square venue is still popular with true music fans amidst an incoming tide of themed or <yawn> "secret" cocktail bars. Unlike them, Soup Kitchen has a kitchen and serves soup.
K. S. (.
Awesome food, huge portions and a super relaxed cafeteria vibe. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options as well as meat dishes. Good coffee and a bar with wine, spirits and craft beer.
K. B.
Nice selection of beers, nice food but loud dj/music makes it difficult to talk inside
Z. O.
Been to the basement venue a few times, one of my favourites in Manc. but decided to try upstairs for some soup and drinks, excellent service, great chill atmosphere and music, the soup was divine and reasonably priced. Highly recommend. 💕
R. M.
Busy on a Saturday night, great vibe though and good staff, would definitely recommend a visit.
C. R.
Fantastic venue, Had a great time Headlining Manchesters Off The Record Festival with SCARLET.
n. i.
A place that sells soup but is a bar and a club downstairs what's not to love!!!
S. G.
Had a very fun night for 5 quid, good music and not too crammed
G. G.
SK . Lively, independent, simple.menu with happy hours. I will.come back at night time for live music
l. k. “. k. H.
Great venue for small bands.
M. H.
Great lineup of beers and good selection of light snacks
J. R.
Friendly staff. Chilled out vibe. Clean. Not a massive selection of drinks but most have been thought about and don't just follow mainstream trends. Good place to start a Saturday night at.
N. B.
Upstairs bar & food. Bar similar to those in Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter. We just used the bar as we were seeing a band (Blood Red Shoes) in the downstairs room. Downstairs held only a couple of hundred people I think so seemed quite intermate with the performers. Coats could be deposited behind the bar downstairs. Music finished at 10.00pm for local residents. All in all, a great place for me. Photo of Laura Mary Carter of BRS.
A. M.
Really nice unique venue with an amazing vegan selection. Really full of flavour. Lovely staff and lovely vibes reasonable prices too.
M.
Can't comment on the soup as I was there purely for the drinks. Lovely Mango IPA though!
K. S.
I've been three times and it's been better every time! Lunch deals are good value and food is delicious.
M. C.
Never disappointing. Great place to have a drink and listen to good tunes.
M. W.
Excellent food, great drinks and good vibes. Service was spot on too.
M. W.
Great food in a great place with a great atmosphere, brilliant soup and a good range of sandwiches, will be back again.
a. k.
cool vibes, great cocktails !!
R. C.
Soup kitchen is ace, Soup Kitchen is cool,
The bands they have on, are nothing but cool!
J. A.
I've not yet been to the kitchen and ordered food but I definitely will in the future. The gig downstairs however is awesome, intimate and the sound quality was really good. The drinks are reasonably priced, but the toilets however are really dirty and could do with a good clean. Other than that I'd definitely recommend this place!
C. W.
Fantastic range of food, vegetarian and vegan options. Great casual atmosphere.
T. B.
came here for a gig in the basement and had one beer upstairs in the bar also. Staff are very friendly and bouncers/event staff are some of the nicest I've met. Basement is great for an intimate gig, quite small with great sound. Standard city centre prices.
B. B.
I went for a gig the other night and had a blast. The beer they had on offer was absolutely class (even if a tad bit expensive) and the bands they had open for the the headliner made a right sound! Great place for food, drink and a good night out. Prices, however could come down a little. Roughly 4.50 for a tin of larger and a fiver for a pint
J. W.
Soup Kitchen is a fantastic venue in the northern quarter in Manchester. They have a good selection of beers, including lagers and ales. They also serve food, which I haven't yet tried!
Downstairs they regularly host live music of a high stature. Strongly recommended for a visit.
L. T.
A lot of people told be good things about this place. It is good but for me it wasn't mind blowing. I would go back but it wouldn't be a first choice. The main area was alright and the drinks on offer were good.
I felt the downstairs bar was a bit of a dive. The beer on the taps there were revolting and the other drinks on option were not worth paying for. Some people told me that it was about the character and atmosphere but I didn't really enjoy that either. The downstairs bar just wasn't doing it for me.
I would suggest going to see for yourself. There is a lot going for that is good but equally a lot that I didn't like.
D. A.
Came here to watch an evening time gig. Thought the venue was fantastic, the atmosphere was good and the accustics were well set up.
It's not that large so you are really close to the band too. Drinks were typically not proceed for the location and there was enough choice for most. Would recommend
B.
I mean, it's fine. It smells a bit, toilets are rank, it's literally just a basement. Bar staff were lovely but I'd never recommend someone to visit. Sound system was great for the band I saw!
B. R. B.
One bog to its name and they call it gender neutral. Swivel!
S.
Chilled atmosphere in the day with food. Busy with drinks on the night. Great.
D. W.
Nice unusual homely soups, salads and some other dishes like wraps. Informal atmosphere, seating on wooden benches. Gets rather noisy and lighting on the dark side, bar atmosphere later in the evening.
E. S.
The big issue with the place are toilets which are very dirty and smelly. If not that I'd probably give it 5* since the soups are actually quite nice (with 4 out of 5 being vegetarian) and selection of beers is not bad. I just hope that kitchen is in better condition that toilets.
H. K.
I would recommend the chicken Kebab and the gig venue underground is great. The audience is very close to the musicians so it is such a great atmosphere. You can continue to drink while listening to DJ set in the bar area.
J. C.
Great spot. Lovely food. Friendly staff. Some awesome live music in the evenings. Can't really bar an amazing soup and a sandwich for £8. Definitely a regular Manchester eatery.
K. H.
Been to some brilliant gigs in the basement which holds around 200 people and the soup, sides and ales are class upstairs. Long benches for tables are a great way of meeting and talking to new people. Always had a good time when I'm there
p.
A fab gig venue with an excellent pub upstairs at street level. The gig venue is very intimate - if you're stood near the back, then you're conversely also only 6 or 7 rows from the front. The pub serves a range of really good real ales which rotates regularly.
K. B.
Great venue. Went to a gig down in the basement first, it's such a small and very intimate space with unisex toilets and a bar. There is a cloackroom behind the bar which costs £1. Upstairs is another general bar where bands playing seem to congregate. No entry fee but was a one in one out type
D. M.
Didn't go in the upstairs part, just the downstairs "basement", to see Sextile. Nice, but basic intimate gig venue. Friendly staff on the door and really good atmosphere. Drinks a bit pricey, but I suppose it is central Manchester. Will definitely be returning
S. N.
Very friendly and cosy bar in the Northern Quarter. Staff were all welcoming and great selection of beers. My dog was allowed in too so ended up staying all evening :)
W. J.
Better than it used to be now it has acoustic treatment. You don't have to shout to have a conversation. Draught beer selection is a bit lame and quality not great. Cans. Upstairs toilets lacking for a venue this capacity.
Downstairs sounding really good with acoustic treatment and new sound system. Some good raw techno recently.
H. M.
Good venue, nice small space downstairs which can get a little bit hot when full and everyone is having a good time watching their favourite acts. Genuinely had some great times there. Would have given it five stars if it was a bit more accessible downstairs.
C. P.
Great place to eat for lunch. Nice setup, pleasant staff and decently priced. Different menu options each day so plenty of reasons to go back and have something new. Some more gluten free options would be nice. Would definitely go back again and I recommend.
C. B.
Went to see Tricot play and had never been but loved the cosiness of the venue in a packed out show. People on the door were really nice, crowd were up for it (Manchester crowds always seem to be) and it was only a 5-10 minute easy walk from Piccadilly. Once again another Manchester venue that is really well located for people travelling from out of town and understands live music. Very happy to return.
R. A.
I avoided the place since a very underwhelming experience about a year ago. Gave it another try and was really pleasantly surprised. Place seems a lot cleaner, staff a lot more friendly/ attentive and the new menu is delicious. Big up Soup Kitchen. Will be back soon.
P. B.
Went out here on a club night. Great DJs, really good vibes but getting a drink was a little difficult, waiting about half an hour to be served each time. Will go back as this seems like a great place but would just like to spend more time enjoying myself and dancing than standing in line for the bar.
a. c.
Nice food with a good choice of vegan/veggie meals. The only reason it is missing the final star is for missing out on ingredients so missed out on sweet potato fries (my favourite), but the staff couldn't apologise enough and made up for the slight issue.
A. P.
One of the best clubs I've been to on a night out, whether it's indie music on Mondays, or a techno event on midweek it's perfect. Great beer and other drinks on tap as well and not too pricey!
H. J.
I have visited The Soup Kitchen with my 4 year old son and a few MC's that came from abroad. We have all enjoyed the food, the local SUP lager and the atmosphere. The waitress was very helpful and looked after us. We enjoyed the music too. Would recommend for a family meal or an evening with friends. Keep up the good work!!
W. C.
Hip, in place just Stevenson Square, NQtr, wide variety of beers, wines, spirits, great soups(!? Name!) Left field, up coming bands play in really grotty basement, definitely an acquired taste, but, as with many Northern Quarter venues, has its own charm, character! Friendly staff too!
A. W.
Great food at very affordable prices. The seating isn't the most comfortable, and the long bench set up won't appeal to everyone, but is good for groups. Very quick service, and good for a fast bite to eat.
The music venue downstairs put on some good shows too.
A. K.
Really like the laid back atmosphere here, there are long bench like tables and the food is served as you’d expect in a cafeteria. Its home cooked and the selection is always good, hearty, tasty food – often with a bit of an exotic twist. Among the blackboard specials there’s always of course soup on the menu which I think is best enjoyed with a sandwich! In the evening it transforms (I say transforms but they just stop serving food) into a bar and they often have DJ nights on - only downside is the lack of toilets which can be an issue if frequenting for a night out.
L. G.
Tasty food menu at a reasonable price and really good quality. Nice setting with interesting art installations that change every time I am there. Great music selection too, makes it a great place to meet up and have a chat with a friend that can be heard over the music.
J. B.
Big. Lots of seating for groups and the booths have charging points for your phone which can be a god send if your phone is on low battery. The toilets were a bit of a state when I went and there were only 2 single cubicles, but it was a Saturday night so maybe the staff hadn't had a chance to step away from bar duties to sort them out.
M. C.
There's little glamour in this small cellar location (I was downstairs at a gig, not up in the main bar) but rock n roll as it gets. Great atmosphere with small bar but drinks and food can be purchased upstairs as they stamp your hand on entry to the gig. Toilets are an experience but all very rock n roll.
J. S.
I love this place. I used to go for lunch a lot when I worked nearby, they do a variation of hot / cold food, ideal for lunchtime. Super speedy service, great value for money, and its easy to grab a table or take food away - what more could you want? I highly recommend the fish pie, and the beef and chorizo stew!
M. E.
Stumbled on the place while looking for somewhere with Vegan food. Food is great with more than just one vegan option for the GF so she was mega happy. Food was amazing, I had the beef stew that was so good and the GF had the vegan curry and she wolfed it down. Great atmosphere, food and drinks.
B. M.
Amazing venue for gigs. Very up close and personal. Drinks were overpriced and difficult to buy as the bar was small and under staffed. Staff on the bar were actually really friendly and had time for customers even though they were rushed.
s. m.
One of my favourite places to get a drink in town, friendly staff, fantastic selection of beers, great food and a great music venue!
M. L.
Nice place with nice people, great food and drinks, very reasonably priced. I really like the canteen style seating in this place and the west african sweet potato soup is just amazing. They also have great selection of craft beers and DJ on weekends.
This is one of the treasures of the Northern Quarter, very interesting and bohemian atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting when in Manchester.
T.
If you're in need of a hearty lunch for a good price I'd recommend this place.
The setup is similar to an old school cafeteria; grab a tray and pick one of the dishes on offer. I opted for the jerk chicken which was so well cooked I could have eaten two, I probably would've done had it not been for the helping of rice and homemade coleslaw that came with it!
The staff were also very cheerful and more than willing to recommend dishes to try.
M. G.
Soup Kitchen is great for food and beer. If you're not boozing, it serves good tea and coffee and fancy pop/sodas. At night, it has DJs on and gigs in the basement. It's a hip crowd and a jewel of the Northern Quarter. Gets loud and busy at the weekends.
z.
Only been in once with a friend to get a sandwich quite early in the afternoon but the music was so loud that we could hardly hear each other. Apart from that the food and coffee was good.
M. D.
This place has some truly amazing food. I was feeling ill and in need of a good home cooked meal while I have been backpacking in the rainy U.K, I had a delicious sandwich and homemade soup from here and it honestly healed me. Amazing Service, Amazing Music, and most importantly Amazing Food.
D. E.
Great music in a downbeat venue. Good value and atmosphere, but low tech decor maybe for students and beatnicks only (showing my age).
S. G.
A great alternative pub! I love the industrial retro decoration, the ambiance...the food is very good and not expensive...nice selection of beers...love the music! Just a great option to go...although they need to improve the cleaning of the toilet to be superb!
S. S.
Good little canteen in the day, lively little bar at night. Soups and stews are very tasty and the selection of drinks is good. I like the social aspect of the long tables. Everyone sits together and mingles. There is a good late night space in the basement where you can dance till you drop!
S. L.
A really nice place to go for a few drinks on a night out, and nice drinks you can get too. Interesting music selection attracts a proper northern quarter crowd. Sit down at one of the long tables and either settle in, or get warmed up to go downstairs.
M. M. S.
One of my favourite places in Manchester, great food, music and beers.
I. F.
Soup Kitchen is a interesting place which changes every time I visit. I use to visit in the early evening. It is a good place to grab solid hot food at the start of a night. If you stay long enough, downstairs opens into a club and the mellow music in the main room will change into something more up tempo
Food is cheap and value for money isn't bad at all
Love the benches, wished they had better toilets and cocktails. Never a dull night to be had in the soup kitchen
L. S.
Lovely atmosphere here, long benches and tables give a community feel to the upstairs, whilst downstairs there lies an intimate gig venue where you can frequently spot local talent. Great place for a working lunch - soup & sandwich lunchtime deals are all fresh & homemade, very scrummy.
J. C.
Real ales; good quality soups and stews (and other things) - little waiting because it's served canteen style, and eaten on large tables (so no cosy meals here!). Nice small (100 or so) music venue downstairs. A unique institution.
b. h.
Good soups, decent if somewhat plain sandwiches, excellent range of beers and always something more substantial on the menu that meets most peoples dietary requirements all within a venue that mixes a live music club with a school canteen. Despite all these positive points, they consistently let themselves down in regards to service which has more in common with the caricature of a Parisian waiter.
A. C.
Hearty food and amazing live music hosted downstairs in the small basement. Casual atmosphere which makes it a great place to meet friends before hitting the rest of the bars in the NQ. Large tables mean it's easy to sit in large groups.
A. O.
Good tasty food selection. Pretty good value for the money. Gets quite busy for both lunch and dinner so I always try to come early to beat the crowd. Good beer selection.
L. M.
Very nice place to listen to music Plus kitchen space
I loved
M. D.
An awesome dive bar, great beers, music and fantastic little basement for gigs
D. D.
The Soup Kitchen is tucked away just off Stephenson Square, but I definitely urge you to track it down and try it. Serving some of the best Jerk Chicken in manchester with a great atmosphere. This is a great lunch destination with friends, with a good selection on offer for a cheeky beer.
J. G.
Very nice place. Long tables to share. Starters are a good variety of soups, and for mains the traditional Jamaican curry based dishes on chicken and goat. Good ambient and nice for lunch
j. l. t.
Downstairs performance area is distinctly old-school; the tight confines, and the fact you're literally face to face with the band is a rare thing these days. Intimate acoustic shows are made magical, energetic punk/indie shows will make you drip with sweat and adrenaline. It could do with a bit of a cleanup, but there's nothing too bad.
The upstairs is a lovely place for a snack and a pint or two, slightly "Northern-quarter" hipster-ish, but by no means disapproving of you turning up with bulging Primark bags!
L. M.
Wonderful jerk chicken wrap with coleslaw which is very reasonably priced and a favtastic carrot cake.
There are long benches and tables to sit up at and look out the window.
A good selection of soft drinks and beers too.
R. M.
This is a place that serves tasty comfort food in a canteen style environment, and then in the evenings it switches into a bar (still with the long canteen-style tables) complete with bouncers and a DJ. They have quite a few different things on offer for lunch each day including made to order sandwiches, oven bakes and one pots, etc. The chilli and brown rice, washed down with a good glug of ginger beer is great. It is cheap and cheerful, but I feel like it could be cheaper. While it doesn't break the bank the place /is/ a glorified canteen... Anyway - the vibe in the evenings is pretty good, but it is a bit bizarre sitting at long tables enjoying your pint. They usually have some good independent ales on offer as well as lager, so that's very welcome. To sum up, then - I'm in two minds about this place. I enjoy going there for lunch, but it is quite weird in the evenings. Definitely worth a shot if you're in town shopping and need a bite to eat, and perhaps for a swift one to whet your whistle on your way elsewhere of an evening.
T. L.
Great food and beer at not too expensive prices for northern quarter. Gig venue in the basement is a bit dingy and has a massive pillar in the middle but is compact enough for some great atmospheres!
A. G.
Food is nice enough, but a little bit bland and pricey for just canteen food. For some reason both the waitresses were rude, but I think unintentionally. Atmosphere is funky, with long tables, darkish and Jamaican vibe.
Ţ. A.
One of my favourite places in Manchester! Great selection of craft beer waiting to be paired with one of their delicious, tasty and organic meals! I would recommend it to anyone visiting Manchester.
S. P.
Pretty chill vibes... the food is pretty solid, always worth emptying your wallet for a filling well done meal. Whether you’re on your tod or with mates, give it a shot.
-1 star, because a handful of the staff have that “I work in the NQ so I can be apathetic about your existence”.
Z. E. B.
Tried this out after a recommendation. Slightly studenty / boho feel with long tables and benches - food served fresh from the counter.
The current menu contains a Caribbean focus with patties and dishes like goat curry.
The jerk chicken came with nutritious brown rice and a tasty homemade slaw, but unfortunately the meat itself was quite dry. Think I'll try the soup next time!
L. F.
I've been in Soup Kitchen at least once a month for the last year for some hearty food and the pricing of it, is fairly reasonable - I'm never disappointed by it. I've never been downstairs in Soup Kitchen but have heard good things so it's probably worth a look once as the nights that are put on are affordable too.
H. B.
Cool decor, cosy place to come. Seating is communal benches with some window seating. Plug sockets available on the window seats.
Glasses and mugs were dirty, we didn't have any food but it looked good.
O. S.
Great place to have beers and hang around. Maybe I was just unlucky, but the lasagna I had was just a little bit above room temperature. The other dishes looked all well though.
I. D.
Great night. Staff so friendly. Went downstairs stairs to watch a band (Wooze) Fantastic little intimate venue. Sound was excellent.
D. J.
Really cool place. It's a kitchen in the day and a club at night. It's a kitchen and a bar in the same room so you can come here whatever the occasion. Really well priced and super tasty!!!
S. H.
I've just been in for lunch with my Girlfriend and we had meatballs. It was immediately apparent to both of us that there was far, far too much salt. I decided to complain. Their response was for the chef try the sauce, tell me that that's how it's meant to be, and that's that.
There was no offer to swap for something different or for a refund. Regardless of the salt levels in the food its not good customer service. I'm not in the habit of complaining for the sake of it and don't expect to just be dismissed. For the ££££ I paid I expect, as a bare minimum, for the chef to be able to season the food properly. If I'd have made it at home I'd have bypassed the dog and thrown it straight in the bin.
T. P. O. T.
The perfect place to relax and enjoy great soup!
B. M.
Soup Kitchen truly is multifaceted, great for a lunchtime bite to eat, a stop in on a night out around the Northern Quarter or for one of the events it regularly runs in it's rough and ready downstairs club. I am looking forward to seeing more here.
M. G.
Upstairs hosts a cosy hipster bar with an excellent selection of beers, alongside serving soup and sandwiches for food. Also hosts DJs on weekend evenings. Downstairs is a grimy basement venue with top calibre of underground talent from around the world.
E. G.
Nice music and layout. Drinks good for the price and lovely bouncer. Just a bit too loud for a drink and a chat on a weeknight!
P. N.
Went to the basement on a Friday night, was £15 entry on the door. With few small clubs surviving it’s fantastic to see this place thriving. Sound quality was great.
G. S.
Good selection of craft beer, often live music. Not huge, and often crowded but a fun place to go if you don't mind it being on the loud side later on
B. A.
Only went for a beer before and after a concert in the basement. Service was a little slow, but fine. Food looked good, but unfortunately we never got a chance to try it.
L. S.
Such a great little place - I've been both on an evening where the music is really great and there's just such a chilled, pleasurable vibe in there but also during the day I have enjoyed a really tasty freshly made soup - so thick and such innovative flavours!
L. S. (.
Soup Kitchen is just off the NQ hub Stevenson Square. Low slung across the road from the Koffee Pot.
It’s got communal tables for that Soup Kitchen atmosphere (I’m guessing that’s what one would be like) and a decent selection of home cooked foods, not just soup!
Prices are average I’d say, you wouldn’t call it cheap but the food is generally of a good quality. The selection of beverages is good and I’ve never experienced much of a queue at the bar which is big plus from me!
N. L.
Love the place, the Atmosphere and the food, best Nachos ever
S. G.
Great soup, nice location and awesome staff! Thanks
S. K.
I don't normally write reviews but I go to Soup Kitchen every week or so, and as I'm (annoyingly for me and everyone else) gluten free it can be a bit hit or miss for what they have on the day - the menu changes every day. HOWEVER, I just had the best baked potato I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot of potatoes in my time. Crispy salt-and-pepper skin spud with butter, three bean chilli, jalapenos, sour cream and cheese. My mouth is watering remembering it. Words can't really describe how satisfied I am right now. Thanks Soup I love you. x
F. P.
Cheap, down to earth, honest food. Not a massive collection, but what they do have tastes absolutely delicious. I had the veggie curry and it was really tasty.
T. W.
Good little club. Often have good night's with a good sound system. Let's dance guys.
A. R.
Interesting lce and good veggie menu...but they do some meat as well. Service could be faster. Went to album launch for Robbie Cavanagh in venue downstairs....great spot
S. W.
Went on a Friday night, stayed upstairs. The dj Levi was ace. Card machine wasnt working so only stayed for one very drawn out gin. Staff are nice. This is defo a come as You are place, perfect for that "i just want to drink, have fun with me mates, and enjoy the music". Ps; ZERO letching, sexual harrasment/assault happens to me here so Win. Pro tip: go to the loo before u are desperate as You can be waiting for a while. I heard the grub is fair here too.
K. P.
Beautiful and authentic Thai food.
G. C.
They've really thought about how to create a low risk environment. Everything is clear, staff are friendly and efficient and the food was good value.
D. S.
Very compact, friendly venue. Good acoustics.
N. c.
Great sound. Small venue no seating to speak of. It is down steps so not disability accessible.
D. T. D.
Enjoyed the gig downstair in the basic no frills black room felt a bit ripped off by the meal deal upstairs, a cuppa soup and a doorstep of bread for a tenner isn't the best value for money.
M. B.
Relatively cheap drinks, the long canteen style tables were annoying and a lack of atmosphere.
But great people and music!
J. R.
An excellent small venue with great acoustics. Drinks are very reasonably priced and we'll staffed.
F. D.
I've been a big fan of the Soup Kitchen for a while now, but recently, portion sizes are smaller and latest soup portion is really bland. Maybe something has changed, but definitely give it a go and lets hope this is a blip!
D. H.
It's really nice, well priced and a good place to drink either with a group of friends or just as a couple. Nice interior, great staff.
P. S.
Great Sunday lunch today. James famous Jerk chicken dinner with all the trimmings. Plantain, sweet potato, Yorkshire pud with a twist. Fabulous in a wet Sunday afternoon. Will be back
W. F.
Top place. Always good for beer and food, seen some really great gigs downstairs too.
H. I.
After an awesome night of drinking, my party and I suffered the dreaded hangover. The roast dinner they serve at Soup Kitchen was the ideal cure!
R. M.
Great downbeat venue with a very relaxed atmosphere. Downstairs music venue is cool, airy and has fantastic acoustics!
j. b.
Nice artsy Manchester bar. Always have a good dj playing bangin tunes and good drinks. Good amount of seating!
L.
Great food, great service. Good menu choice for gluten free food. Wish they did Gluten free bread
S. C.
Nice relaxed atmosphere enjoyed barrence whitfield gig downstairs can get near stage not got 5stars because £4. 20 small can of redstripe and need more toilets
L. A. C.
Had a very tasty vegetarian curry here and would definitely recommend others to go here. You sit on long benches so it's maybe not the best place if you're looking for some privacy.
E. V.
Chilled atmosphere with good beer, lovely home cooked food and a great selection of gigs.
J. M.
Really nice place. Food was well priced and there was a good selection of beer.
P. B.
Ok bar for a quick pint.
Extremely quiet when we went.
Pretty basic layout and furniture, no nonsense.
T. F.
Amazing vegan brunch
L. H.
Long benches soup kitchen style and simple, honest but super tasty food. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but the vegan dish I had was amazing!
h. m.
So me, my wife (of 7 years) and our 3 children after leaving a public seminar on how to make friends, decided in unison they we all craved a soup so I googled a soup kitchen and this was the first result that came up. So I said to my wife (of 7 years) "MY BLOODY BONZA WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT A SOUP KITCHEN THATS STILL OPEN AT 1AM" she responded with her cute giggle and an eye flutter so powerful that it could kill a black dog. I took this response as a simple "yeah let's go bang some soup honey".
Upon getting out of UberBlack I approached the establishment with caution as the place was teeming with derelict mouth breading students with their pants rolled up way high and smoking the devil's lettuce. I thought to myself "don't make eye contact and just walk passed them" and I did but once I got inside I saw no fine china, no immaculately set currently, not even a bowl of blimming soup! Only young adults thrashing around to Chicago house (not even some Italian atmospheric analogue techno (u guys even know donato?!!?)) So I hurried into the toilets with my children to wash out their eyes to rinse them of this scarring experience and a few of the leader derelicts offered them a bump of K whatever that means so we stormed out huffed with exasperation till our ride home arrived.
Love u soup kitchen but please change the exit sign downstairs - serious wet blanket when ur tryna vibe in those dark moments.
J. A.
Sick venue, great beers and great vibes
P. M.
Nice enough place and has a good selection of beers.
The Jamaican food is nowhere near authentic, not really sure why people rave about this place.
N. S.
Amazing food at decent prices, small selection of craft beer on draft and a larger can/bottle menu.
S. T. (.
Good food, especially for vegans. Quirky bar with character. Basement events got that Berlin vibe.
C. M.
Simple very tasty and good value food with a good selection of beers. Great spot for lunch and with evening events.
A. B.
Decent food, I recall the menu being a bit samey. The woman at the till also didn't bother mention that the burritos came with nachos when I ordered an additional portion.
H. L.
To us, this is the hub of the northern Quarter! along with it's basment with live music and the beloved Remake Remodel. this is why we visit Manchester!! The food is fantasic too! Go soup kitchen!! xX
L. P.
Fiver for a bottle, near enough fiver for a sandwich. But this is the NQ, so don't sneer. A very impressive, very bright venue with an eye for culture and ear for music...
R. M.
Great bar with a great menu. Hidden and easy to walk past.
Warm and friendly atmosphere.
D. W.
Awesome, live music and decent food in one cool place. Beer was also really good.
D. S.
Great food, ok service, I'm not sure who planned the new decor but its pretty shoddy. Oh well
V. C.
Hearty scran and top service

T. B.
Visited upstairs bar. Food was lovely, nice selection of drinks and friendly atmosphere.
S. D.
Wholesome food, great staff and chilled tunes during the day. Awesome.
S. G.
Ace soup & bread, good service but a lot of the beer was off today which was a shame. Done a bit of a refit but not sure if it is any better...

R. B.
Excellent bar with lovely staff, great drinks, and a fantastic atmosphere.
M. K.
Interesting place, very hipster vibe just decor does not match this. The food is overpriced for what it is. For a night out is not for everyone
I. V.
Lovely, and iconic basement venue in the heart of Manchester's Northern Quarter. No frills, but a great vibe.
K. A.
My favourite bar in Manchester. Relaxed yet lively atmosphere and they're always spinning vinyl.
