Great place to have a cocktail...or two! The variety of cocktails here is very good and they are always up to a really good quality. It's awesome to see how they put the cocktails together right in front of you with some of them having some very weird effects on them, if you enjoy the sound of it I would definitely recommend 'the colour changing one' tastes awesome and it is cool to see it change colour as you add the different parts of the cocktail. Quite pricey but overall its probably worth it.

It was in central location. Nice cosy place to sit and chill. Very friendly staff. The Food was amazing. I have tried smoked chicken. A bit like fajitas. Really rich sauces. A bit long wait due to the crowd. Very nice atmosphere though. Highly recommended. They have another branch in Hartman's square however this one is really the best.

Good quick service, food was delicious. Steak n chips very tasty and chicken curry lovely. Curry sauce comes in a separate jug, good idea so you can add as much or little sauce. Was very mild. Would come again, highly recommended.

Great place to go for having a cocktail. Great discovery from a friend. Located in the city center the place offers a wide range of cocktails. It's worth mentioning that all the cocktails are unique in such a way are served, made and presented to the customer. The place offers food as well but I have never eaten there. Furthermore, is a bustled place, therefore, I recommend to book in advance to have a proper place. The service is excellent 👍👍.

Absolutely loved it! We never been in Manchester out drinking so we took a chance after we have seen a post on facebook. Lady behind bar was so welcoming we decided to sit by the bar and enjoy watching her whilst she was preparing loads of fancy drinks. I can tell you we had 3 drinks eaxh and I could definatelly feel them in my head 😆 we will definatelly be back. Keep up the good work !

Awesome experience as always! So glad we've booked a table because the place got very busy. The cocktails were great as always and food was superb. It was my sister's first time at the Alchemist and she absolutely loved it! On our way out we saw people ordering Mad Hatter and it looked so magical! We're going to try that one next 🥰

Excellent bar! The cocktails are very theatrical and taste amazing too. We had gone for the all that glitters brunch which tasted nice, would recommend getting thr hash brown bites! The selection of drinks was ok but nearly all of them had gin which isn't great when you aren't a fan of gin/bitter cocktails. Picture is of the cherry collins which was delicious.

Great fun, tasty and worth every penny! Bitter cherry was very bitter and very delicious. The only downfall... the waitress referred the gentleman bussing drinks as JUST a busser. He was polite, charming, and made the little time he had with us wonderful. No-one is just anything. He's a valued member of your team!! 🙂 otherwise 5*s guys keep it up!

Nice food and excellent cocktails. Only drawback is being asked to move after 1hr 20 mins as the table was needed for another booking. Would have loved to try the deserts but this would put me off dining here in the future but would drop in for cocktails.

We did a cocktail making class with 11 girls with food included and it was so much better than I imagined. Charlie the head bartender was fun and brilliant at teaching us how to make the drinks. And none of us expected the food to be that great even though we have eaten at the alchemist before. It was a really great experience and the bride had the best time ever.

The whole aesthetic is very nice, from the decor, food, and drinks. The waitress serving us was very friendly and was attentive. The food was tasty and more inventive than your standard chain. I have always wanted to try here and I am so glad I did. The drinks are fantastic so different to your everyday cocktails. The staff are brilliant at what they do serving three people at a time whilst mixing drinks which were delicious. Would highly recommend this place.

Cocktails were good, service was very standard. We went two night’s in a row, because we knew we could book and it was near our hotel. The cocktails are very expensive, but nice (I had the Bath Bomb, which was quite disappointing - just a small fizzer). The staff were very busy, not enough of them to cover everyone, so we were often waiting quite a while to order or get the bill. The second night, it took so long for us to be served and people who arrived after us were served first. We would probably go again, as it was easy to book, but for the price, the service could be better.

Came here on Saturday evening with my wife and two friends who we haven’t seen in months thanks to covid. We booked a food and drinks table and were well waited on by Nat during our time there! The food was gorgeous and the drinks even more so! Nat even helped to get me a ‘Solero’ my favourite cocktail that they’ve unfortunately recently scrapped from the menu. The wait and bar staff are all very eager to make you any drink you’d fancy as they are all trained in classic cocktail making, so even if there isn’t your favourite on the menu don’t be afraid to ask for it and I’m sure they’ll be able to make it for you! This has and will always remain my favourite cocktail bar. Can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Obviously drinks are a little more expensive but you’re paying for an experience you can’t get anywhere else. The food was very well priced given the portion size! Speed of Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ On this particular day the speed of service was fine. The main Front of House was great and the ladies there were really respectful, very well mannered and polite. The service of food and drinks was very quick! Food Quality: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall quality of my food was extremely good and high quality. Our group tried a huge variety of drinks and food throughout our visit. Everything was amazing quality and even the ones that weren’t preferred were made very well! Restaraunt Cleanliness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The overall cleanliness of The Alchemist was really high. High levels of cleanliness and regular cleaning. AOB- I have no other business to add.

Such a brilliant time cocktail making for my sister's hen do - the staff were brilliant at putting up with us being behind the bar and our host was amazing, she was so much fun. Nice venue, quite a young vibe. The cocktails are aesthetically pleasing but not that well balanced. The food however is very nice, great selection of starters but not an inspiring choice for the mains. The quality of the food is good, very tasty and enjoyable. The service was impeccable, Rose our waitress could not have done more for us, she’s a credit to them. Paula was also fantastic, she came to check on us throughout. The service really made our whole experience great and would be the main reason to return. I recommend eating here.

Had a group booking and was asked to wait in the bar area as the table wasn't ready yet which was totally fine, it did take over 20 minutes though for us to get served at the bar though while waiting which was because they assumed we were there for a masterclass? But they didn't ask us so we had to wait! Had a work Christmas gathering here. The staff were kind and hospitable, patiently tolerant of my lack of experience ordering cocktails. The steak was absolutely perfect: rare but not blue. Neither a cheap night out nor crippling expensive - we spent £50 a head for starters, mains, and enough booze to get us well on our way. The location was great - coming from all over the North we travelled by train to Manchester Piccadilly, and walked the 10 mins from there. Hoping we'll be able to repeat this soon.

The food looked nice but the steak had a bad aftertaste that ruined it for me. Loved the chicken wings and the duck spring rolls that we got. I'd visit again but make some different choices.

Worthy breakfast for the weekend start. Took a walk into the city and tried the place for some breakfast and see how they do as compared to their famous cocktails and definitely not disappointed. Tried the hangover fix burrito and it hit all the right spots. Ample amount of bacon and hash browns with nice sauce. Well done and right to the detail. Won’t be anything new from me saying again that this place is as good for breakfast as it is for cocktails.

We came here for cocktails one Sunday the set up is good with the social distancing and the place is clean everything is done with table service and the menu is on an app. They don’t show you any prices on the app which I think is quite bad really as it is quite an expensive bar. We had 5 cocktails which were good and the bill was £46.

Great selection of drinks, all very unique, some are a tiny bit expensive given the size. I didn’t particularly like mine but it was probably just a poor choice , the menu is quite extended and a bit overwhelming , I had to choose quick as my group had already picked theirs.

We were warmly greeted by security who asked if we had a booking and then pointed us in the direction of the host. He then sat us down and we were quickly introduced to our waitress. She asked if we'd been before and did we have any allergies to which I informed her I did. She guided me to scan a QR code on my phone which brought up the menu and told me exactly what food had nuts and peanuts in. This totally blew me and my partner away. The choices were plentiful and the drinks menu was mind blowing. Our waitress was finishing her shift but kindly introduced to our new waiter who was just as friendly. We ordered 3 starters which the mac 'n' cheese bites I highly recommend and a main dish each. The food came out at just the right time each time and staff who served were just as lovely as the next. For my first time at this establishment, I would 10/10 recommend and be coming back with friends and family. We weren't made to feel like we had to leave straight away and the atmosphere was really nice.

The cocktail menu is modelled on the periodic table of the elements - with some really interesting looking drinks.Plenty of theatre with the mixology - and not just with mixing the drinks, but the vessels used, dry ice and smoke, and colour changing drinks. Alchemy was happening in front of your eyes!! I can recommend the 'Lightbulb Moment' - I need a few more of these....... Prices were not out of this world - busy on a Tuesday night.

As you know I like cocktails! So thought a trip to the Alchemist was a must. It is a classy mixology cocktail bar with dining .Two minutes from piccadilly it stands on the corner of New York Street, Manchester. The exterior has a cosmapolitan flair about it , inside there is a section for drinks in which I was seated after pre - booking online .I font think it is standard , but did do anyway .There was plenty of space ,the seating between tables was good, the cocktail menu was amazing ..incredibly gorgeous drinks one after another with exciting names each cocktail was unique and I wanted all of them .I chose the screwball it was tangy with a smooth texture and an explosion of flavours. Then I had the bath bomb which was nice to .The drinks and potions that when mixed create smoke spilling from the glass like in a science lab to the changing colours of the drinks is an experience to be had .

Can I first say I’m 52, love the craft of decent cocktail making, own 3 companies but as common as they come. Tonight we were served by the lovely James. My husband is a trainer in world class companies all over the world. He expects high standards. He has visited Manchester many times and said myself and our daughter would love how friendly it is and the eclectic society. Not wrong! Everyone has been lovely. Back to James, he grafted so hard and was particular, personal and focused. My husband even said any company he works with would welcome him with open arms. Anyway, he then served two gorgeous young ladies and he was smiling and doing his thing, we were saying ‘Good on him’ finally a couple of minutes to himself. Then we spoke to our daughter about how lucky she is to have two hardworking parents that enable her to have the lifestyle she does. She rolled her eyes. I did this mum thing where I do a particular cough which all three of my kids recognise as a cue to use their manners and say please or thank you. James then spun around and publicly pointed at me and said ‘DONT DO THAT!!’ Then went on to serve everyone but us. My husband was livid. But as I have worked in ultra busy pubs and bars in London as a kid, I know that the finger clicking and entitled punters thing when you are doing your best is infuriating. However, it wasn’t directed at him and he tried to humiliate me. No matter how good you are, and unless punters are aggressive, that level of arrogance isn’t ok. We stayed so that I could explain and talk to him and he was cool in the end. This kid is talented and more hardworking than any of the other staff we saw and he could go on to do whatever he wants in any career with that level of focus. But there are times you have to ignore and times you have to kick off. Lesson learned eh? Still left him a tip. Curb that anger kiddo, you got so much ahead of you!!

Service is generally good and there is a DJ so the atmosphere is amazing. Last orders for drink are 00:30. Usually space for walk-ins for drinks only. This place is more like a bar with seating available, as opposed to a restaurant. It is situated in a prime location and is always very busy (which is a good thing in my opinion) As for the cocktails, they have a very large menu and a good range of non-alcoholic drinks.. some of the mocktails are particularly excellent, such as the bubblygym (the clue is in the name). In terms of food, they have a decent sized menu with a variety of options to choose from. Although the food is not halal.

My friend and I have been wanting to visit the Alchemist for ages and so we were really excited to be able to finally go. First impressions were great. The lighting and music made for a great atmosphere. The menu is excellent and the first mixologist to serve us was nice and friendly. We ordered a red dead zombie and a light bulb moment. Both are dry ice cocktails so they ha e the wow factor. Unfortunately the dry ice is more of a gimmick. It made the drinks taste a bit dry and chalky (I know... A "dry drink" is an oxymoron but its the only way I can describe it). Our second round was a mojito and a iced charcoal latte. The bartender who served us this time had a hipster look that had turned into more of a hobo look with his scruffy beard and denim shorts. He seemed a bit bored as well. When you are paying the best part of £20 for 2 drinks you kind of expect a bit more effort. Both members of staff built the cocktails pretty much out of sight which seemed a real shame. We weren't involved in the process. The mens toilets smelt very strongly of stale urine which made me suspect they haven't been cleaned properly for some time. There was a chipped toilet seat too. All in all it was a bit of a let down and I'd probably not go back again.

The Alchemist has one of the most unique experiences in Manchester. Whether it be the cocktails, decor or food, it never fails to deliver a stellar performance. The food is excellent at the alchemist. It is presented in the same whacky, creative way but tastes just as good as any other upper-restaurant in Manchester. There isn’t a huge range of selection, but what is there will cover everyone’s tastes. The waiters were exceptional. There was no question ours couldn’t answer, and her bubbly demeanour put a smile on not just our faces, but all tables served by her. Last but not least, the cocktails cannot be fault in any sense. Chances are that you heard about The Alchemist because of the cocktails and let me tell you, you won’t be disappointed. The range is huge, I approximate 30-40+ along with the standard bar cocktails, but does not compromise on repetitiveness. Most of them are alcoholic but there is a selection of mocktaiks just as entertaining. To conclude, I would highly recommend this restaurant/cocktail bar to anyone. The only negative is how fast the night goes. I won’t post any pictures of the cocktails; I believe that it’s worth waiting to see them yourself.

Most cocktails also match the interior design! However, the food can be hit or miss. I've had their signature dish, Chicken in a Basket, and while the food was great (order it with sweet fries, tastes a lot better!!), the presentation kinda sucked. The Cotton Candy Alaska had a lovely presentation, but was a tad too sweet for me. Still would recommend though! The merch is pretty great too! Just wish they would do a black version.

The interior as well as the menu are inspired by.. well, alchemy and chemistry equipment, the cocktails are beautifully done and you won't find the usual suspects on the menu. They offer all kinds of "crazy" cocktails, don't mind experiment with ingredients but also offer to mix your favorite cocktail. Their snacks are delicious as well and the general atmosphere is good, even if sometimes a little noisy. I'd recommend book a table if you plan your visit ahead.

This place is really expensive. The cocktails aren't big or that good. It's a nice place but its definitely for people of intellect or people of Upper class quite snobbish for normal everyday people. You get what you pay for in this bar, which thankfully means the beer isn't anywhere near as expensive if you're not into cocktails. Gets busy immediately after work is out, then empties again within the hour, so if you can avoid the crush it's very easy to get served.

We first went for some cocktails in evening here. The cocktails are really inventive and lots are themed around chemistry, hence the name. Some of the cocktails come with a little show and for the lovely setting they are really reasonably priced. We came back the next day for lunch and decided to have a few of the small plates to share. Everything was really well presented and tasted delicious. The fruit juices are also lovely and a must try. You can also sign up to the restaurant's loyalty scheme and get discount on your bill when booked in advance.

I came on a Saturday night with one other person. It was very busy - it looked as though half of the place was a restaurant, and half was the bar. We had a cocktail, after choosing from a very extensive list! There were some really nice sounding ones there. The cocktails we got tasted nice, and boy they didn't compromise on the alcohol, you could really taste it! There was plenty of cocktail in my glass, unlike other places that fill it all up with ice. The barman was very good and quick to serve us. The only thing I knocked a star off for was the price - ideally I'd like it to be £1-2 cheaper per drink. Would visit again!

If you don’t mind paying a premium for drinks this is a great place for cocktails, they come in all different shapes and sizes and there’s a real drama about them! The bar/restaurant is bright, light and fancily decorated! The food has always been generally good but some dishes are a lot better than others, I loved the calamari but the chilli and rice wasn’t anything special. The outside seating area is great in the summer, particularly for people watching!

Over crowded and disorganised. We were a large group of 20 plus hens celebrating our friends upcoming wedding. We had booked months in advance and paid our deposit. Yet on arrival they had to move people so we could sit at our tables, these unfortunately were not together and part of our group had to sit away from the rest. Our food was served at different times so when one table was just being served starters the other were eating mains! The food was a set menu and was very nice. Our table were given a complimentary drink due to complaining about the separation of our group but the rest were given nothing. On receiving the bill we were then faced with an additional £70 service charge 😮 Fortunately another conversation with the manager and this was removed. What a shame, we had high hopes for this place but I would avoid if you're thinking of going as a large group.

I've been here a number of times now. This is a pretty safe bet for an excellent drink, made with flare in an intimate, sophisticated setting. Nice lighting, friendly staff (including the bouncers), sofas and heated outdoor tables make it a good place to begin or end your night. The drinks are something else - almost every cocktail has a unique, imaginative twist. I especially like the Smokey Old Fashioned, which comes in a conical flask complete with oak-flavoured evil smoke.

Me and my partner came here for a Thursday dinner. We were very pleasantly surprised, the atmosphere was great, staff attentive and food delicious - we had the duck spring rolls, stall fajitas and chicken katsu. One of the best alchemists we have been for sure. Only slight issue was it took about 45 mins for our main course plates to be taken away which next I didn't have enough time for a dessert cocktail! But that's more because of our own time issues than anything. Will definitely be going again when we have more time to spare!

On a Monday night when in town on business this was exact what I was looking for. America style bar. Just about all the seated area taken. Can sit at the bar and eat (hence American style). Alchemist is a great bar, it's got lovely decor and decent enough music. The staff are friendly, and their food is pretty decent! I like that they have couches in there, it makes a change from the usual fare of having benches and tables. The space is a bit cramped when it's packed (but then most bars are), but it's well worth the visit. They also have seating outside under (heated) canopies, which is really nice in the summer. Sadly the view isn't that great, but that can't be helped. Absolutely worth a stop on a night out.

F'kin love the Alchemist. Visited last Thursday after travelling around the U.K. on an extended visit. I've been to the Alchemist several times previously and each time I'm more impressed. The food last Thursday was delicious. My family and I tried, Veggie and Duck Gyozas, an awesome Fish Finger Sandwich, Pan fried Seabass - which was great, Lamb Rump & Kofka and Premium Steak !! (There's five of us!!)... On top the cocktails are probably the best I've had outside of Miami :) ... Service was particularly great, starting at the front desk and ending in the bar man's insistence that I tried the house 'Vodka Espresso'... Will be back Girls and Guys ! Take care and wash those hands!!

Another fabulous venue from the Living Ventures group with amazing interiors and even better drinks. This, for me, is the lesser of the two Alchemists (the one in Spinningfields being my favourite) it doesn't take anything away from The Alchemist on New York street though as that is purely based on location as this one is just a little bit out of the way of my other favourite places, so its just personal preference. Its still a brilliant place to go and indulge in a cocktail (or 3) and highly recommended.
