Reviews of The Circus Tavern
B. K.
Great place if you're Irish and a Guinness drinker. Wwfc tr
A. S.
I used to be the area manager of the Circus Tavern so know it very well. I visited the pub on a Thursday night after a concert at the Apollo.
We turned up late but the bar staff allowed us to have a quick drink before she locked up (which was very kind) - the pub was still as I remembered it, a classic, tiny, town centre boozer. Loved it back in the day and still do !
D. D.
Hi lovely friendly pub great staff brilliant atmosphere will be back over in march. A must for any Utd fan.
A. M.
Super, and they have Tetley's :)
D. P.
Friendly staff, quaint little pub, beer choice could be better.
T. H.
Big things come in small packages is the first impressions of this great traditional pub. The tiny bar is apparently the smallest in Europe with Excellent bar staff and a warm/friendly atmosphere this is one place to definitely visit when your in the city centre.
J. H.
Lovely Quirky little bar tucked away from the current affairs. Really nice place for a few pints and to meet a few Mancunian Characters. Loved it.
M. L.
My God but it's small. But the sign outside said you would get a big welcome and you certainly do. Two lovely ladies serving on Sunday afternoon. Nice coal fire to warm your bits and bobs. They don't have crisps or nuts, but to be honest there probably isn't room for them.
Real mixture of people in there. Some locals, French, Irish and myself.
Will go back definitely.
Not expensive either 🤗
D. L.
Great atmosphere.lovely staff. Been before and found you can talk to random people and have a great time
P. G.
A proper pub, cosy is an understatement based purely on size, but also cosy as in you get to talk to folk without wall to wall TV, juke box or games machines. If it's crowded, the friendly folk behind the bar will come round and take orders then bring you your drinks, saves losing your seat or constantly disturbing people. A cracking good pub, of which there are too few nowadays. Just go.
D. M.
Lovely landlady, who was so welcoming. Great place for a quiet drink.
A. P.
Great beer and excellent personal service. Good atmosphere all round.
C. S.
A gem of a pub and a Manchester institution. Friendly staff, good beer and a guarantee to meet a character or two as you have to sit next to them! If only all pubs were like this one, the world would be a better place.
N. W.
Proper pub - conversation mandatory! Accosted by Paul, Sue and Steve upon entering. I came a stranger and left a friend.
c. c.
Like a traditional old man's pub , worth popping in for a pint if your in the area to say you've been to the pub with Europe's smallest bar. Staff are friendly, pints are tasty , decor is ancient but what else do you expect , jump in for a quick half
G. C.
Nice pub friendly atmosphere only went in though for its quirky nature
J. T.
Just had a two day break in Manchester and had an absolutely fabulous time in Circus Tavern. They made us so welcome and we enjoyed a really good time sat chatting with them and the regulars, definitely want to return. Please do visit if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!
R. L.
It's small! Because of that not the biggest selection of beers but made up for it with a friendly atmosphere, and staff.
D.
Small and with the sense of history, you know that inside those walls, many people were drinking their stories through times. When in Manchester, tick it off from the bucket list!
F. B.
Such a welcoming place
C. B.
Lovely friendly little pub with great service.
P. S.
Cracking pint of Becks. One of the smallest pubs I’ve been in. Great atmosphere and friendly staff
P. B.
Brilliant! Went on Utd home match day so was busy and feeling like a sardine having a pint is actually pretty good in decent company 👍 will be returning for sure.
L. E.
Friendly welcome from the regulars and bar staff alike. Barmaid asked us to take a seat whilst the beer was poured then kindly brought to our table. Small rooms but big customer service and quality beer. Roaring open fire to add to the cosy atmosphere. The great service offered really proves how easy it can be done!
S. J.
As they say this should be the smallest pub in Europe... might be... two rooms for around 15 people each + around 5 standing places at bar 'area'. Lovely staff, reasonable prices, fire place... nothing else is needed ;)
H. S.
Fab place great atmosphere a very warm welcome
D. S.
What a great find! Cosy pub with a fire, warmly welcomed into the pub and drinks served to our table.Looking forward to visiting again soon.
G. B.
A very small bar but the host is larger than life. A great pint and friendly clientèle, well worth a visit
D. K.
built in 1790, and became a pub in 1800s. Such a tiny little place but has atmosphere and characters, loved it. The staff are so friendly too.
P. R.
Very cute and welcoming traditional pub. Walked past here many times and never noticed it! We'll worth a visit!
C. B.
Brilliant old school pub.... Shared a room with three Irish lads and a couple from Congleton..... Best friends by the time we went home.
C. S.
Little gem for a quick pint , traditional old English pub with the smallest bar in Europe so you get table service, not many seats but step back in time
D. C.
Used to go here loads in the 80's. Hardly changed. Beer fine.
M. N.
It's a great pub but I try not to broadcast it because it's so small that if too many people get to know about It I might not get in myself. Apparently the commonest word used in reviews is, quite rightly, atmospheric.
J. F.
A novelty to go in the smallest pub in Europe. But very cramped and not really a place if you want a relaxing drink.
R. F.
Friendly staff and descent atmosphere I'm just not the biggest fan of the social distancing measures as rooms are to small to maintain a distance and had a stranger sat at my two seater table which meant them being to close to me
S. H.
Pleased to find this place back open. It really is a unique place and everyone is always very friendly. Thoroughly recommend a visit
J. S.
Brilliant little pub with the smallest bar in Europe, well worth a visit
D. W.
Smallest bar in Europe allegedly, warm welcome but beer was not too great.
N. J.
Best pub in Manchester. Friendly staff. Good beer. Can always strike up a conversation with other customers, not much choice really, it's so cozy you have to chat with your neighbours.
G. B.
Called in for the first time yesterday for a couple of beers. What a gem. Good beer, lovely bar lady with table service and friendly regulars. Very small, old style proper boozer! Can't wait to go back.
C. R.
We love the Circus Tavern, a must if you go to Manchester, the smallest bar in Europe but the atmosphere and the staff cannot fault. An experience in itself.
P. T.
Cracking tiny unspoilt traditional pub. Little rooms full of memorabilia. A must-go heritage pub
J. M.
A little Pub with a huge heart. Thank you so much to staff and patrons for a very English experience. Loved it.
T. M.
Really is a friendly cosy small pub. Great service from the bar staff. You can strike a conversation with them all. All customers are so friendly. It's great at Xmas time with the fire roaring so warm you dont feel like going home.
J. 1.
A great little traditional Pub to take a break between shops or for an end of day tipple.
Worth a visit and you'll probably return.
M. K.
It's tiny (our group of 15 almost filled the place) it has about 3 beers and cider in bottles. But it's way cheaper than near by pubs. It's very well maintained and the staff are lovely. Nice homely open fires.
T. J.
Loved it here, very welcoming and let our dog in as well, a rarity in Manchester it seems. Very friendly crowd, good beers on the pumps and a couple of TVs showing the Rugby. Highly recommend coming here if you're in Manc.
J. L.
A cosy little pub. Table service but to be fair once you've sat down you can't move! Good measures with wine , large glass equivalent to half pint. Definitely visit again all patrons very friendly . 5 stars say it all ...brilliant 😘
m. h.
My second visit here when visiting Manchester. On each occasion I have enjoyed a friendly welcome and as the bars are so tiny inevitably you end up talking to others in the room and staying longer. And yes it does have the smallest bar I have ever seen to house the pumps. Looks less than three feet but could be slightly more. Just round the corner from China Town and close to Manchester Art Gallery.
R. L.
Great pub. Small but great atmosphere. Recommended
T. G.
Just a lovely old style boozer
S. C.
Tiny pub but very welcoming!
t. w.
Very quaint bar, reputedly the smallest in Europe! Host very friendly and helpful!
M. W.
Friendly tiny tavern, pleasant staff and customers to a non local , nice place if able to get a seat.
I. T.
One of the best boozers I have been in. Great service and so cosy with lovely decor on the walls including the holy trinity and music legends of the Manchester music scene. Great flat screen for the racing. Excellent spot for a couple of quite pints.
R. J.
Best pint of Guinness in Manchester.
D. R.
Great little bar, has to be visited to believe how small the bar is,lovely staff
D. A.
What a great place to visit, a must for all cask drinkers and certainly all George Best fans.
G.
Nice small pub, friendly atmosphere, good beer
d.
Great little pub,a city legend.very friendly vibe
M. L.
Without doubt, the best pub with the best welcome and the best beer on planet Mancunia
C. R.
What a friendly welcoming pub this is
Had a ball last night
It might be one of the smallest pubs there is but as it says on the door you get a big welcome
We took an American guest in with us who thought it was truly magical
Also some great football memorabilia on the walls throughout
D. L.
Amazing experience, one of the few places you can go and meet random people and have the best conversations ever over a pint! Thanks to the owner and his sister for a great day.
W. G. (.
Claims to be smallest pub in Manchester. Has 2 small rooms and a tiny bar serving an excellent pint of hand pulled Tetleys and a larger pump. When it gets really busy, which it often does at weekends, bar staff tell you to find a seat and they will bring your drinks to you so you don't crowd the bar.
N. L.
Where else in Manchester city centre can you find a virtually unaltered pub, complete with old black & white photos on the walls! The catch is are you lucky enough to be invited in to get a seat, & because the bar is so small be served at your allocated seat if available as certainly no standing room.
Beer range is Tetley and Robinson's Dizzy Blonde. Beer on great form and a great place to talk to people.
A. B.
Nice little bar and not a bad pint
R. G.
Best bar in Britain.
S. B.
The smallest pub in Manchester but with Massive character. Two little rooms so you cant avoid the friendly conversation with strangers. Top little boozer.
J. A.
Very cost and friendly place to have a couple of beers :) The smallest bar in Europe it is sad to be, probably it really is, was nice :)
Do not expect some wild parties, it's more a place to have a chat and a couple of drinks with some old friends.
O. H.
It's like stepping into your best friends living room!
It's so small and crowded that you get to speak to people you've never seen before. Fantastic atmosphere and an friendly staff.
J. C. S.
One of Manchester's quirkiest venues with a tiny bar, small Victorian pub style rooms, and pictures of Manchester legends on the walls. A must visit for any pub crawl. There's usually some regulars there too who are chatty, well humoured and welcoming to new people.
L. F.
Nice little pub , friendly.
t. r.
Had an amazing night here with the locals. Closed bar locked doors and spent the night drinking and singing songs. Best little bar I've ever been to
J. M.
My favourite Manchester pub. Always pop in for a quick pint on my work visits to the city. Tetley Bitter on cask in perfect condition.
M. R.
Nice friendly pub with the smallest bar you will ever see well worth calling in for a quick pint
S. W.
Smallest pub in Manchester. Only two cask beers in really good condition. We'll worth a visit
D. B.
Claimed as the smallest bar in Europe. Tiny bar is in the hallway with a Tetley and French blonde on offer. Two rooms with tv's. Slightly tatty even though it's recently been decorated. More of a curiosity than a pub.
M. G.
Greatest smallest pub in Europe and amazing Guinness 👏
J. S.
Great spot for a drink. Fabulous staff. Really friendly. Quirky pub with a great atmosphere.
M. H.
Certainly the smallest pub I've ever been in. Lovely atmosphere and friendly people. A must for George Best fans.
S. L.
Bizzare little pub but what fun. When I was there there was 5 men singing in the front snug. Friendly landlady so head over and enjoy
M. T.
Small and cozy pub. Well worth a stop if you are nearby. Not the best selection of beers, but it's a small pub.
J. D.
Best pint of Tetleys in Manchester. Place just reeks of great atmosphere and cosyness. Go, stand up and be cramped and bloody love it. It's ace.

(Translated) Authentic English pub, of the real ones, with an indescribable essence and charm. Small and hidden, it gives you the feeling of discovering a hidden place in the city, where to take refuge from the SXXI. Good beers at a good price. Sofas divided into two rooms where you can chat and stop to think about the amount of history that the place will have. Refrain scrupulous modernetes.

Buenas cervezas a buen precio. Abstenerse modernetes escrupulosos.

(Translated) Just awesome. A small bar and a cozy room to stay. Here you definitely get to talk to locals and have a beer. It doesn't stay with one!

(Translated) Were due to the city derby in Manchester in early September and landed here the evening before the game thanks Tripadvisor.
First of all, it is not understated when it says "The smallest tavern in Europe" it is really very small and a seat warranty there is definitely not!
But good beer and authentic pub feeling!
The service was visibly under stress and struggled to be friendly, but is understandable due to the lack of space and human density.
At later hours it was getting fuller and it turned out to be a fan pub for Manchester United fans (mainly Norwegians) who set the mood with fanatics! Were kindly Intregiert, sang and drank friendly together and had a great evening!
A star deduction because I imagine a friendlier approach to the service under "The biggest Welcome in the World".
Would this pub rather men without female accompaniment to suggest.

(Translated) Unfortunately there is only one type of beer, unusual for a pub, but understandable given the size. Anyone looking for contact is definitely right here;)

(Translated) It's small, but they have their own beer and they do football on TV. It's a good place to make one.
