Reviews of The Crown & Kettle
A. O.
Fantastic historic pub serving a superb range of real ales. Great decor and atmosphere with very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
J. H.
Lovely pub. Had a sympathetic refurbishment during lockdown - looking sharp and maintaining view of a lovely old ceiling. Main room is light and airy. Snug at the back is reassuringly dark and has a wood stove for the colder days. Great selection of beers (mix of cask and keg - about 15 to 20 I reckon) and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
L. W.
Great pub, lots of craft ale available and the menus for these are on TVs on the walls. Really fast service and plenty of places to sit.
D. A.
One of the best pubs in Manchester. Especially enjoyed my visit last week as they had an event showcasing local Manchester beers. All of the staff were super friendly and passionate about beer. My idea of heaven
H. B.
Beautiful pub, class ceiling, great cask ale and friendly staff.
M. L.
Fantastic place, nice atmosphere, and sooo many beers. Loved it.
S. C.
First time visiting this pub. It has a great selection of drinks. And service was great. However the first impressions you gain upon entrance aren't great. Round the back of the bar is a lovely snug area and the decor improves massively but walking through the doors you would think someone had put a bar in a school cafeteria.
L. B.
Lovely pub, always try to visit here when in Manchester. Great selection of beers, friendly vibes and great staff.
J. C.
Friendly chatty staff.
Good choice of different beers on tap.
Would recommend 😊
A. A.
Vast selection of drinks both from independent and large, commercial breweries. However; their lager selection is terrible.
Plenty of seating and a good sized outdoor area which is a proper suntrap for those lazy, summer drinks.
Good music and happy, chilled and fun vibe.
D. B.
Lovely Bar with lots of Wonderful Beers. The staff are very helpful especially Ellie who i would love to take around with me as my personal Barmaid. Will be back the next time I am in Manchester.
p. g.
Excellent pub. Called in for a quick drink on a hot jubilee weekend. Good service. Would definitely return for more drinks and food next time.
T. H.
Despite it being a very busy Saturday evening, the service was spot on. The staff were all friendly and very efficient, letting us know that there would be a wait for the beers we had ordered, kudos for managing expectations. Loved the variety of drinks on the menu, needless to say we certainly left refreshed. I can't wait to visit again in the future!
I. W.
Real pub, great choice of beers. Helpful staff
i. h.
Really good bar in an unspoiled building. Great selection of beers and other drinks. Plenty of outdoor seating to sit in the sun!
A. D.
This is an amazing building, often folk never look up when inside a building but in here you really need to coz it's stunning architecture, and to add to that the beer selection is really good with a great atmosphere
A. M.
Good selection of beers, goodie of people and plenty of indoor and outdoor seats. Music bit too loud in outdoor area, but better than listening to traffic
P. E.
Great selection of beers, friendly, helpful service and fantastic decor. The roof alone is worth a visit 👌
J.
Great pub, huge choice of great beers. Friendly staff, interesting building
J.
Cracking pub in fantastic building. Great choice of beers and great staff. Minor gripe about the gents crapper being out of order but would definitely go back.
L. F.
We had our Christmas party at Crown and Kettle and they were so lovely. The food from Mira was great, our server, Bethany, was really helpful, and we had the best time. Everyone has already asked if we can go back again next year! They even put out Christmas crackers and foil curtains for us. Thanks so much :)
m. m.
Been coming here for years and liked it, but it had appeared to go downhill for a couple of years. Not any more! It's been beautifully renovated and decorated, with a wall taken out behind the bar. The whole place is much brighter and attractive. The famous ceiling is now much more clearly visible too. The beer selection is top notch, with loads of cask and keg choices from top independent breweries. Highly recommended.
K. H.
Lovely pub, great decor and choice of beers. Staff are super friendly. Highly recommend!
R. F.
One of the best selections of British craft and cask beers available in Manchester. If you're a beer drinker you can't go wrong.
G. H.
Great pub as always. Large selection of cask beer always in great condition. Even bigger selection of keg available. Staff nice and friendly. Overall a great pub
N. K.
Good selection of beers and the outdoor front area is a true sun trap.
R. S.
Great selection of craft beers and lagers. Friendly staff.
Plenty of space on matchdays en route to Eithad

August 2021 Bank Holiday update.
I have been visiting this pub ever since it reopened back in 2005? Indeed the baroque ceiling (that has a subtle safety net cover)is a feature. The pub was refurbished pre lockdown and the net cleaned. The whole pub has had a full makeover. Has normally between 6 to 9 hand pump real ales. Used to be the main place to drink Yorkshire Osset beers within Manchester. Sadly, not seen for ages.
Prices (in my opinion and on my last visit) were no longer competitive. I think it was 2018 that ale prices went to above £3, for the first time. This time I paid £4- £5 per pint of session ale.
*However...I have now been informed by the new management, that they operate a 25% cask club offer on between 12.00 - 17:00 hrs, Monday- Friday. Will have to try it. The staff are very friendly. Snacks are sold with some different varieties of Yorkshire pork pies etc. Outside there is seating with table service. Definitely a pub to visit when in Manchester.
I. B.
Great selection of beers here. Staff were really lovely too and although it seems like it's on a corner with a lot of traffic passing we didn't notice it at all and were very comfortable sat outside.
K. S.
One of the best pubs in town. Always a great selection on tap and a brilliant atmosphere.
A. S.
Love this pub! Such nice staff and the building is beautiful. Great place to spend a Sunday
C. C.
Busy pub, friendly staff, decent beer. Decent starting point for a bar crawl in the northern quarter.
C. W.
2021 update: Outside seating is ample, there are heaters and the place has had a facelift / seems to be under new management and is looking a bit swanky! Please bring back a gluten free beer, I used to go out of my way for your stock of Brass Castle Bad Kitty!
2017: A very well stocked pub at very reasonable prices. I always seem to end up here and it's never a disappointment. Expect great beers, a small saloon bar, music at a level you can have a conversation with ( if at all) and snugs.
A. S.
Great place and great beer. You need to try their own beer. It's amazing
A. G.
Excellent pub with an amazing selection of ales. Very traditional and beautiful venue
D. G.
Great cask and keg line up.
C. B.
This place has a delicious selection of beers and ales (shindigger is a must) complimented with a decent vibe.
A.
Great pub, one of my favourite places in Manchester! Very conveniently located. Cozy and welcoming. Good to quickly pop in for a drink after work or to hang out Friday or Saturday night. Great choice of beers though a bit expensive.
And yeah, don't forget to look up and check out the amazing old ceiling. Hope they preserve it.
C. R.
Amazing selection of beers, friendly knowledgeable staff, nice atmosphere, even sat outside!
L. L.
One of the best pubs in Manchester. Beautiful interior, great beers, amazing staff. 110% recommend.
S. “. T.
A building steeped in history such character. Beer good and not a bad price. Great selection and a great place to start a pub crawl back into town. Friendly staff too!
G. J.
Was one of my favourite pubs when I lived in Manchester. Now for some reason there's two huge TV screens with beer prices on them and these take away from the historic look inside. A blackboard would look much better. Beer prices are also high, I don't know why people think £6-8 a pint are valid prices in the UK.
W. O.
Always a good pub. Bit pricey if you just want a stiff drink.
B.
Great pub and even better since the refurbishment. Love the selection in here and the staff are great.
J. W.
Brilliant pub, great beer and atmosphere. Love the new outside seating Service was amazing, Emmy looked after us so well with great beer recommendations, and was super-friendly and patient with our sometimes ridiculous orders. Awesome to have such a great independent pub in the city centre.
G. G.
Nice pub, lovely building, friendly helpful staff, good selection of real ale. They allow modest vaping, which is nice.
M. R.
Excellent selection of beers and real ales. I love the personality of this independent pub. Very friendly staff.
J. S.
Great selection of beers, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.
Definitely one to attend for the beer-seeker but plenty to offer for any thirsty shopper
E. H.
Stunning ceiling. Great staff
Lovely place to be👍
L. B.
Had one of my favourite beers on tap so winner all round
D. D.
What a place to go for a pint. Good atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. Beer was really good too
T. a.
Wow such a find whilst exploring Ancoats , vibrant pub, great vibes. Staff were quick to look after us and sort us out a table.... Beth served us advising us on the extensive Craft Beer selection.... will be back for sure! ....loved the interior decor too :)
J. H.
Great pub with a broad selection of ale. Staff are very welcoming and friendly.
c.
Great staff and wonderful selection of beers!
L. P.
This remains chief amongst pubs in Manchester. The Untappd screens help in making your choice, and the atmosphere remains bright and friendly. The new outside seating is proving a great addition.
J. H.
One of the best pubs in Manchester. Beautiful interior, great beers, amazing staff, I have never not had a great experience here. In summer its great in the evening or in the small room with the fire in the winter is the best.
M. D.
Great range of drinks, great staff and fab building
D. P.
Great old school Manchester pub. Full of atmosphere and an eclectic mix of people.
B. W.
Absolutely superb place. One of the best choices of beers in town. If you like the weird like me seek out the Krankie Iron Brew Sour it's amazing. Staff excellent, very friendly and fantastic table service (during covid times). Thoroughly recommend
D. H.
I love this old building,always welcoming,beer good
R. B.
Quick service, plenty of room and tables outside. Beer selection pretty entry level but decent enough. If you want more specialised beers go to Mackie mayor across the road. A solid dependable manc boozer.
B. b.
Love this pub. Great atmosphere and lots of history
J. G.
So so. Nice place but on a weekend it seems to be the same as every other pub.
D. L.
The best night had! The tunes were banging,
the place was jumping and the booze was flowing. The staff were second-to-none and couldn't do enough for us all.
Thanks for the best vibes post lockdown and keep it going.
If you've never been, go! Highly recommended 👌
J. J.
Great menu of beers and lagers. Loved the smores bitter and the Helles lager. Would definitely enjoy another visit. Place was clean warm and welcoming.
C. H. (.
Great place and staff are lovely. The music is a bit loud and it gets really busy so go early. It's on untapped, so the beer selection is ready to see.
G. M.
The best pub in Manchester! The atmosphere is amazing and all the staff are so lovely! Big up Bethany wayyyhayyyyy... Always a vibe, always my first choice when the suns out
C. B.
Gorgeous little pub in manchester great staff
D.
Lovely pub in between town and Ancoats. Great selection of beers, modern inside with a nod to its history such as the old bar sign inside and the original ceiling.
E. C.
Absolutely beautiful and amazing beer selection
J. B.
Best pub in Manchester
City centre pub, with local service.
Fantastic selection of beers and drinks and unbeatable service. Devon and Nathan always welcoming. Unrecognisable from 12 months ago
M. R.
First time here and we we're impressed alot of character amazing looking ceiling good beer choice we didn't eat but menu looked good
P. B.
Cool bar on the outskirts of the NQ.
Looks like it’s been here for centuries, super keen staff who are prepared to talk you through their huge choice of cask and keg beers.
Something for everyone here.
Cool selection of board games too and dog friendly!
If you’re looking for a warm and cosy place I wouldn’t chose here though.
N. I.
Great selection of beers had a coffe beer it was delicious 😋
K.
Good vibe and wide selection of beers and ales.
C. S.
Great Pub with a great selection of beer!
K. W.
Amazing pub. All staff were great but Bethany provided amazing service!
You can also order food to this pub since they don't serve any food of their own
Would definitely recommend
H. C.
Great little pub, very cozy friendly staff and most importantly great selection of beers ales and a few stout
J. A.
Excellent atmosphere and wide range of excellent ales and ciders.
L. V.
Very cozy. Great selection of craft beers and lovely staff. It still maintains some of its original features
M. Q.
Excellent pub. Nice selection ales.
W. G.
Nice pub with a really good selection of beers.
W. R.
I love this pub. It has a small and friendly feel and the staff are lovely. Last time I visited I really wanted a coffee - which wasn't a problem as they gave me a staff mug and made me a coffee from the staff provisions. They have a great range of beers and ciders and some good gins for the gin lovers. This is my go to place if I want a drink in a friendly atmosphere.
C. M.
Just the most brilliant boozer in Manchester. Bethany and Sam in particular are so welcoming, friendly, and genuine. The beer is great and the welcome is so nice. Couple that with a gorgeous building and The Crown & Kettle is the highlight of Ancoats.
D. W.
Nice atmosphere great range of beers
L. G.
One of my favourite pubs. Beer selection isn't always great for me but I like the place. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Ceiling is worth a trip in to look at as it is stunning grade listed and protected from renovation. They have a net up to stop bits dropping in to your pint.
R. W.
This place is really does wear the crown for unique beer in Manchester
P. C.
Fabulous beer selection always served in great condition with some of the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff you will find in Manchester. Absolutely fantastic pub.
E. K.
Amazing pub set in a beautiful old Victorian building with high ceilings. Great friendly atmosphere with a good selection of beers. A few of us ordered a black pudding scotch egg from behind the bar which was a perfect snack whilst on the beer. Bar staff were all friendly too.
A. M.
Amazing pub - great service. Left my wallet there thought I'd lost it, went in the next day and they had found it. Beth and Emett were 5/5. Much appreciated.
A. S.
Lovely pub. Lots of different beers available, cask, keg, bottle.very nice. Outdoor/indoor seating.
M. L.
Great choice of beers and a fantastic environment to drink in. The old interior architecture in its original state is a great conversation piece. I definitely recommend this place as a more eclectic, slightly off the beaten track place for a quiet drink or a good matter with your mates! Staff are friendly and we'll versed in their drinks they serve!
J. C.
Excellent selection of beers in an iconic pub. Staff were excellent
R. C. (. W. W.
It's not as good as it used to be for a cider drinker, but all places in Manchester appear to have gone the same since my last visit. Still a nice place for a pint
B. R. B.
They change the beer selection every two weeks. Staff are the best, pricing is great depending on what you order. They always have a cheap beer on offer as well as the expensive ones so you don't get butchered by northern quarter pricing and the food is amazing. Crown is the boy. Top two pubs and an incredible local
z.
Only discovered this pub last night but I really enjoyed it. Decent selection of drinks, cosy room and then more of a pub room to choose from. Toilets were really clean and well kept for a pub despite there being no lock on the mens door. Best thing about the place was no blaring music that you have to shout over in order to have a conversation.
D. M.
Excellent selection of beer and plenty of outdoor space which is great under current circumstances. Tends to be a bit busy on weekends but always a good time.
M. R.
One of the best places to go in Manchester for food and drinks! Was served by a really lovely, friendly and beautiful called Emmy, would deffo go back just for her service!
P. F.
Great place good selection of beer good atmosphere.
C. D.
My local in town for many years, a proper pub, of which there are not many left in this part of town. Good beer, friendly staff and great original features.
Sadly, this has gone the way of the gentrified, trendy Ancoats. Which is a shame. I can't fault the new staff and plenty of money has been spent on the place and this, during an uncertain era for this industry. But for me personally, it wasn't broken and didn't need fixing. Too much, too soon.
G. B.
Great pub, great selection of beer on taps and kegs, the lady who served us was quick, responsive and happy to answer any questions for us. The ceiling, although in disrepair is beautiful. You can imagine what it used to look like.
The snug is lovely, with games toy can play and a little more pub like than the main sitting area.
Would go again
H. P.
Nice place to sit and good drink selection
C. B.
Great pub with solid selection of drinks including ales. Brilliant place to start the evening and a stones throw from more livelier venues should you choose to move on. Unique building adds to the drinking experience. Easy place to find and meet people as it's situated in an easily accessible and prominent location.
w. w.
Beer is always in great condition and they always have a wide selection of different beer styles available. Really cosy rooms. Friendly staff. Never too busy even on a Saturday night. Highly recommended. Even have some gluten free beers available
N. M.
Nice pub and lovely atmosphere.
M. P.
Excellent pub, incredible selection of well kept beers. Lovely staff too
D. N.
This places always has excellent beer. If you're a large group and want to stay then get a pint in and hang around in an out-of-the-way place because people are always coming and going. There's beer, cider, gin and others to keep any one happy. Smoking area out the back and three loos. Love coming here to see what's new on or if there's a guest in town.
N. A.
Great selection of beers and a warm welcome
C. G.
A staple pub for me. Always nice to go here for an ale. Of which there is a good selection of ales at decent prices. The venue is quirky and always gets you wondering how the building was originally used and the original ceiling is still intact to have a nosey at over your pint (look up and you'll know what I mean). Always like to take my parents in here when they come up to visit and they also love the place 😊
G. W.
Excellent pub, large with a selection of rooms. Lovely original ceilings, large imposing bar. Had a great selection of drinks at not too bad a price for the area. With visiting. Does get busy
P. W.
Great setting well kept pub with friendly staff. Big selection of beers at all different price ranges with a great variety of spirits too. Fantastic range of bar snacks an often overlooked point in most pubs.
G. A.
The best beer selection in Manchester.
It's perfect for those looking for the most original and amazing beer. The selection changes constantly.
Just be aware it is a bit difficult to get a table during the weekend.
J. H.
It never lets me down. For a pub that is quite central, I like the fact it is busy but never too overcrowded, even at weekends. Nice and warm during colder months, one of two smaller rooms named 'the snug' has a roaring fire and comfortable seating and can be reserved. Good selection of beers and cider. Architecturally interesting building with traditional decor and good disabled access. The beer garden is actually a very small backyard for smokers that you would never realistically sit in. Occasionally they've been showing football on the TV. Apparently they have an upstairs room too but at this time it is not open to the public.
M. D.
Amazing pub in NQ with extensive menu, knowlegable staff and good ale!
e. e.
Definitely NOT a hipster pub. Great beers, ciders and staff. Free samplers help you to lubricate the channel before deciding on your favourite brew. The beer garden is exquisite.
D. M.
Staff are excellent... Couldn't be better.. Polite and friendly... Prices are though a bit steep for a standard pub.. £11.40 for two. Pints.. :(
V. G.
Great atmosphere and excellent beer
O. H.
Great if you want to get treated like children by pretty horrible / rude staff. Shame because it’s a great building
Edit: added a star for a kind response from management
c. r.
Great pub with a fantastic ceiling
A. M.
Brilliant pub. Fine selection of ales, ciders and spirits all in a rustic setting. Tap takeovers are definitely worth a visit and you will not be disappointed by the frequency of new tipples arriving. Oh and I nearly forgot the board games...!
W. F.
Amazing pub and looks incredible. Unbelievable bar with knowledgeable and friendly staff! 10/10
M. C.
Brilliant Pub with plenty of choice of craft beer
Friendly Staff
H. R.
Proper old fashioned pub brought up to date. Outside is a great place for people watching. Friendly staff.
R. H.
Well this is a proper gem of a find. Fabulous no-nonsense craft beer pub. Raw floorboards, sawdust and spit ready. Fabulous beer line up, including loads of really interesting cask as well as the more common craft kegs. Friendly stuff and cracking pub snacks. Loads of space to sit and don't forget to look up, the ceiling is something else.
S. S.
Praise the gods of Manchester for this absolute gem of a pub. Really friendly staff and great beer (love the refurb too). Not just the jewel in the crown of the NQ but I reckon the best pub in town.
M.
I first came here in 1974. It was shut for many a long year and fell into almost total disrepair. It has emerged as probably the best pub in this area of town. Great for real ale and cider. Very friendly pub. I love it.
M. L.
Gorgeous, classic old pub with a very nice selection of ales
s.
Nice little spot. Outside drinking only atm so gets quite busy as limited space. On quite a busy corner and only a stones throw from Piccadilly Gardens...
C. B.
The C&K used to be my local and it is one of my favorite pubs on Earth. It is small, scruffy and dark. The main bar has an ornate victorian plaster ceiling that has been rotting away for the best part of a century. Drinkers are protected from potential injury by a reinforced net. The second (cider) bar's ceiling has been fully restored but, to be honest, I prefer the faded grandeur of the one that's falling apart. There are no gimmicks at C&K. There's a rapidly cycling collection of excellent real ales and craft beers from local, national and international breweries. There's a good collection of boxed ciders, and an impressive array of gins and whiskeys. There are tables and chairs. The snug has a nice gas fire. They sell pork pies and scotch eggs from the fridge along with crisps, nuts and monster munch. You don't go to the C&K to be 'seen', you go to drink excellent quality drinks at reasonable prices and enjoy conversation with your friends. Everything a pub should be.
S. T.
Great pub for craft drinkers. Old and beautiful unique building...Great friendly staff, board games available to play. Live acts. Serves bar snacks and a great selection of ale and lagers and ciders.
S. S.
This place is very cool...nice beers and make sure you look up the ceiling
K. V.
Not a very busy bar however this is why i like it, nice and comfortable to sit down and have a drink and a chat.
Staff are friendly and remember you after a couple of times going.
Vast amount of drink options which change regularly. Different ales on a seemingly daily basis would highly recommend if you want to try out some different ales.
j. J.
Great place. Friendly staff. Nice building (and roof) always feel welcome..lovely corner gem!
A. J.
A great selection of beer, plenty of seating, and friendly, chatty staff are almost par for the course nowadays, all of which this pub has in abundance... but what really makes it stand out is the beautiful, high-rise ceilings and island bar. You really get the feeling the Crown & Kettle has been around for a good long while, yet they've kept on top of making sure it hasn't lost its charm. I'd definitely recommend at least going for one, just to check out the decor!
K. L.
Fantastic refurb and very friendly staff. Good choice of ales in one of Manchester's famous pubs.
D. R.
Had a lovely day outside in the sun. Staff were extremely busy but they always tried to help out. Lovely beer.
J. C.
The Crown and Kettle is quite a large, scruffy (from the outside) looking pub in Ancoats on the edges of Manchester City Centre's Northern Quarter.
I went in after work with a mate to get out of the rain and found that it was pretty busy for 3 o'clock on Friday. Despite this we got served quickly with the staff nice and friendly. I was quite surprised with the whiskey selection, as normally in a traditional pub, you only get your big well known brands - I opted for a Talisker...
Regarding the price, for two drinks, I ended up paying best part of a tenner, which bearing in mind my drink was **ok**.
A couple of other things to note is that the decoration was a bit shabby and although it's a large pub there didn't seem to that many seats. Also it was cold!
All in all, not a bad place to nip in for a drink but I wouldn't go out of my way.
J. S.
A fantastic pub, always a delight to visit. The ales never disappoint and the staff are always helpful.
m. h.
Excellent beers in an amazing old building, and a discount on ales in the afternoon.
N. L.
From the outside an imposing old style public house which remained empty for many long years! Brought back to life the ceiling is stunning showing a bygone age!(you will not see a more unusual in Manchester)
Good choice of cask & keg beers, very friendly bar staff and nicely busy when we called in.
B. D.
Had a wonderful time at the Crown and Kettle. The staff were amazing and had a brilliant selection of drinks. Highly recommended, will be back!
R. B.
Real old fashioned pub. Very friendly atmosphere, I've never been in without chatting to new people. The beer is always good quality as is the service.
J. H.
Grade two listed building.
Ceiling damaged by fire. Staff attentive too customers. Good range of ales, Cask and Keg. No food except pies are from W Yorks and Scotch eggs made locally,Manchester
G. T.
Relaxed pub with plenty of good ales on tap. Love the ceiling which just looks better faded and aged. As a bonus there is nearly always available seating round back and board games !
A. T.
Beautiful rustic interior and friendly staff. Good selection of beer. They host tap takeovers. When I went they had remnants of sirens the day before and To øl.
P. G.
All changed due to Covid, but efficient service and plenty of service and seating, in and outside. The sooner we get back to normal, the better, nothing beats propping up the bar.
T. O.
one of the best pubs in town
J. F.
We the beer lovers of Manchester were delighted when this pub rose from the ashes. The signs of the fire are still visible in places. Superb beer is served in a building of great character. Try it you may never want to leave.
L. M.
The beer was good as always and enjoyed the banter with the staff. Looking forward to being able to spend some time indoors.
J.
A fantastic pub that I'd rate 4.5 out of five. I'd like to see the ale choices swing a little more towards the traditional, though. People do still like a nice bitter after all.
M. M.
Good selection of beers and friendly staff. Very basically furnished, no frills, just a good place to have a drink and a natter. Victorian building with an amazing ceiling.
,
S. H.
Perfectly situated in Manchester.Excellent choice of ales.Ales were well kept.staff friendly.Cozy atmosphere
L. A.
Great pub with good selection on tap and cans
C. B.
Great pub, loads of cool football stuff about as well as a great selection of beers
R. D.
Nice pub. Good beer selection and historical decor. Nice local feel to the place and friendly, knowledgeable staff. I'd go again.
B. F.
Great boozer, classic Victorian architecture with a ceiling not to be missed. Beer selection is anything but classic with a rotating selection of very well kept guest beers.
K. N.
Love it. Always tonnes of fab stouts and ales. Barmen know what they are doing and can always give a delicious recommendation.
Check out their "coming soon" bit on the left of the bar :)
J. E.
Brilliant, historic pub, with a wide range of spirits and ales. Loses a star because, although it has the most incredible ceiling I have ever seen in a pub, it is unfortunately neglected to the point where they have had to erect a net to catch the falling pieces of masonry, rather than just restore it to its full glory! Hopefully they will do so soon, because to lose it altogether would be a travesty.
T. H.
Sometimes a top selection of beers but even if not they regularly change so you will probably get something good the next time. Good pies too. Good prices. Top place. Maybe not the prettiest if you are in to that.
A. R.
One of the best pubs in Manchester. Great service and an amazing selection of of cask, keg and small pack beers. Very underrated.
J. M.
I'm American and I wondered into the crown and kettle within my first 6 hours of ever arriving in the UK, super legit place. God save the Queen!
J. J.
Amazing pub! Such a good time, many thanks to Sam and staff xx
M. F.
One of the great old pub buildings of Manchester. Renovations limited but this just adds to the atmosphere. Good range of cask beers very well kept.
J. B.
The bar staff are friendly friendly friendly. Taste the beer before you buy. Great surroundings. Go ! Just have a pint and stay for 3 hours like we did!
m. d.
Love this place, great beers and the place itself is proper old school.
S. P.
Nice pub. Great range of drinks. Friendly staff.
I would not object to going there again at all.
To far from home but would a local like this
A. B.
Great beer choice of both cask and keg beers. It's a shame that English Heritage called a halt to the renovation of the ceilings. Take a look at the one in the smaller vault.
N. R.
Great atmosphere...staff really friendly...good choice of excellent ales.
D. H. (.
My favourite local pub . Staff are amazing & very helpful 😂
A. S.
I'd always dismissed this pub as not worth going into purely based on on its location and appearance. Finally popped in and was pleasantly surprised. Interesting high elaborate ceiling, cheap beers, good selection of ales and ciders, cosy snugs with real fires. Definately going back
M. M.
Was for many decades a decaying, fire damaged former Wilson's house occupying the hallowed corner of New Cross. When the Northern Quarter was in its seminal years, an enterprising person decided to invest in the structure and bring it back to being a pub. Observe the fire decayed ceiling, and enjoy the exuberant architecture. Three rooms set around bar in main room. Always six or so cask beers on. Recommended.
A. F.
Nice pub, nothing fancy, not designed for special occasion with the loved one. All real ale so no smooth etc. Can try beers before buying
E. B.
Lovely beer, fantastic customer service. All round great experience 👍
L. H.
Very knowledgeable staff and an amazing range of lager/ales/ciders. Will visit again
R. W.
Great real ale pub in a fantastic building on the edge of the Northern Quarter.
Always a good selection of hand pulled cask beers at a much better price than many other NQ bars.
T. C.
Another of my top 3 Manchester pubs, beautiful internal architecture, fantastic beer selection and friendly staff. I can (and do) happily spend an entire Saturday afternoon in this place.
D. F.
Not much to say, standard pub, sometimes have nice live music, though staff need to be aware of regular meetups as a couchsurfing meet here was hassled.
M. B.
Love the refit and can't wait to go back. The modern look pairs well with the listed ceiling.
L. S. w. P.
Old pub but with some great features. Good range of ales beers and ciders and happy to let you taste. Got a 'nooks and crannies' vibe so a good one to settle into for a few
A. D.
Unapologetically old school. Great beers and ciders. Nice staff and a mix of clientele make it a nice spot for a good pint. Don’t forget to look up when you’re in the bar.
S. S.
Excellent bar, great range of interesting beers and spirits.
I love the fact they've kept the old ceiling (as knackered as it is).
E.
Great pub in NQ. Good range of beer
M. B.
Gluten free beer on draft and friendly staff. Loved it.
D. P.
Bar has drinks which can be purchased. There is seating which is at tables. You can also make use of the toilet facilities. 'The Snug' has a selection of notable board games, such as monopoly, chess and scrabble.
I. W.
It is what it is... A friendly, old school pub with great drinks and ambiance!
R. B.
Great little jem. Always a great selection of beer to choose from and usually find a table to perk for a few beers. I don't really want to recommend it as I don't want it to get any busier. :)
M. D.
Great ceiling! Proper old pub with an interesting history (read the signs scattered about the walls...) It's a bit shabby in places, but a nice place to escape some of the over crowded bars of the northern quarter.
W. B.
Great selection of well kept ales, beautiful grade 2 listed building, easy relaxed atmosphere. They have an enticing selection of pork pies but unfortunately all sold out on my visit.
E. V.
Really nice classic pub with a great selection of beer.
K. T.
Fab beer selection, nice bar and snug area. Friendly staff and atmosphere with board games to boot. We'll be back
S. T.
Great pub varied range of ales. Great customer table service
C. W.
A great pub Very helpful and friendly staff and great selection of drinks
S. O.
Quiet English pub, decent spacing between seating areas, have a few craft beers and a list of cans (usually not inexpensive but they never are in pubs), draft drinks are decently priced and a few places to sit down.
S. H.
Cracking beer but bloody expensive now compared to pre covid times. Better going to the Smithfield.
d. m.

M. M.
Easily one of the top 5 pubs in Manchester city centre. Fantastic range of well kept beers, worth going for the ceilings alone.
S. B.
Good beer, amazing architecture and history, usually seats free because it's rarely very busy. The atmosphere is probably a bit strange, if that kind of thing bothers you.
R. D.
It’s been done up! Good pub. For all age groups. Give it a go!
C. h.

D. M. H.
Top pub with great choice of ales and lagers
C. M.
Cold pork pie. If you can't even heat food it's better not to offer it at all. Drags down your whole experience. A few stars because the beer was decent while not amazing.
L. N.
One of my favourite traditional pubs in Manchester... Great ale, warm atmosphere, good prices and not one bit pretentious
J. W.

Great beers. Even do a low gluten one. Beautiful old building. Happy atmosphere
M. W.
Nice beer and atmosphere tonight, only problem was they were cash only today. I hope this doesn't mean this excellent bar is heading towards closure.

Lovely old ceiling around the bar area, sadly falling down. Would be nice, to be preserved. Friendly staff. A bit dull but, comfortable.
P. S.

d. K.
awesome traditional Manc pub... Great pint of Guinness!
B. M.
Could do with a lick or 2 of paint but the Crown & Kettle is a grand old building with some cracking features. It is also an honest boozer - completely lacking in pretension, decent to watch the football in if you get a good spot.
A. S.

Quite a cool quirky pub however it was really cold and the pies were all the prepackage type which was a bit disappointing. Plus they only took cash!
A. Z.
Nice quiet pub with great ale selection. Perfect for an escape from pubs that play loud music and have tv sets flashing everywhere.
E. L.
Amazing pub with many original features. Obviously great beer as well.
