Reviews of The Eccles Cross - JD Wetherspoon
T. R.
Beautiful space, great ambience and cheap prices! This wetherspoons is very lively and provides various seating options (indoor, outdoor). It can be nice and cozy or be fun and social, whatever suits you!
B. R.
Lovely building, friendly staff, excellent breakfast. No complaints whatsoever. The flesh eating zombies that wander about the streets of Eccles are a bit off putting, but that’s Eccles for you. You just have to make a run for the door and be prepared to cleave a few skulls in on your way.
S. H.
Nicely decorated historic place, food is good and cheap.
The only thing is that one of the staff in charge of the glasses and botles throwing it from a far distance into the bin, making such a noise.
m. l. a. d.
The large breakfast was good bit on the small side (a table spoon of beans). Fast service, hot drinks were great. Only gave 3 stars as it wasn't the cleanest place.
s. e.
Always head to a spoons for Breakfast and normally they deliver.
Unfortunately the Eccles had a large part of its menu unavailable and no Black pudding in Lancashire 😱. Service by staff was good but for crying out loud the supply chain needs sorting out.
Breakfast was good value, but delivered on cold plates with over cooked egg, stogie beans and cold toast which could have passed for cardboard.
The staff brilliant on the front of house, but come on kitchen up your game.
Tim have a word with your Team leaders please!
s. “. h. w.
As with all Wetherspoons cheap and good. A pint of Coors lite and a large glass of wine £5.40. Same drinks at the Dockyard Salford keys £12.40. Pay for the view. Food was better at Wetherspoons too
s. r.
Great location off metrolink food was good but waited longer than expected concidering was quiet inside but ok experience
O. J.
Great pub, I have been coming here for years now and I think its a great place, which is probably why I have been a loyal customer for this long.
Having said that though, I had not a very good experience today with a lad behind the bar today. I ordered for a lamb shank, one of my favourites I must say. Normally it comes with vegetables and stuff, but today I was given the shank with just marsh and gravy. I wasn't very happy ofcourse because i love my veggies...even worse the guy behind the bar was not very helpful either, he tried his outdated trick of getting me to believe the vegetables where blended into the gravy...nice try laddd, anyways I asked for a refund in the end. I was not very happy as i could have been if i had it though.
You need to make amends to get the stars back, afterall I am a loyal customer 😁.
N. C.
Good food, reasonable prices. But, the floor is very gross and smelly. It stinks in odd corners.
Service is good and fast. Staff is polite
B. P.
Yup another weatherspoons
Cheap hot food n warm beer
And long walk to the toilets ...(that could of been a lot clearer)
And a nice car park next door 😀
S. S.
Really nice. Spacious. Clean. Friendly helpful staff. Fire to warm up and dry coats by on a rainy day! Loved it.
D. E.
Had a lovely meal in a family friendly atmosphere. Really enjoyed! Pretty good value too!
P. E.
A great wetherspoons, the food is always good quality for the price. Staff are excellent, and the ale selections are getting better every time I visit.
W.
Decent big pub with nice helpful staff. Have been a number of times and always had a great time with no bother.
K. K.
Drinks and food are quite competitive, but sometimes not much choice of meals if you want say a quiche, or chicken salad. Most of the meals are burgers, pizza mix grill mens food, they do lovely pasta meals yet again these are children's portions they so little to eat you need additional sides. As for alcohol great choice very cheap on your pocket why wounder weatherspoons are always packed
M. S.
Nice and quick service, friendly staff, tasty food. Well place to have a drink
S. T.
Suprised at how big it was inside, quirky with booths that are lower than the ground level. Good food and freindly staff.
D. H.
Nice beer terrace.
Stowford Press Cider. £1.99
K. G.
Basic spoons, decent service good location for waiting for busses
T. H.
Decent Wetherspoons pub. Excellent value on the drinks/food side of things & friendly enough atmosphere to stay for an hour or two.
J. M.
Sun was shining , staff were great and I had a v good afternoon
j. s.
Really good value for money also really nice and warm when it was wet and miserable outside.
B. W.
The food was sub par tbh with most of my meal being inedible. The coffee was freezing and lots of the food was cold too. We went for a pastie straight after because the food was so rubbish. The serving staff were beyond fabulous in all honesty and were the only reason they got any stars at all to be honest.
S. N.
Good breakfast range good service all that you need
c. p.
Food is fine but the white coffee out of the machine is dreadful, aways dark and is strong
L. P.
It's a big spacious Wetherspoon's in a great location. Food and drink is what you would expect. Perfectly fine. Has a beer garden. Tram stop is just outside. Bus station is a 30 second walk away.
A. M. (.
Typical weatherspoons, cheap Stella, friendly staff, always a different mix of people at anyone time, you get exactly what they advertise 👍
A. V.
Good Breakfast again with a coffee no drinking beer in the morning like the regulars
A. V.
Great breakfast, good food most days, cheap meals and drinks, but sometimes slow bar service
K. C.
Have to order using the app which took a while to load for me. Was easy enough once in the app to navigate.
My burger was nice however my husband was left disappointed with a very fatty steak no peppercorn sauce, 1 tomatoe and 1 mushroom.
N. L.
A quick review. Not as many cask ale options I would normally expect, usual staple brands not always to every bodies taste!
However steak Tuesday meals were excellent, served quickly and friendly staff. I believe pub has previously had various owners, well done to wetherspoons for taking over & looking after this classic building.
G. E.
Helpful friendly staff . Great selection of food and served very quickly despite being busy. Table ordering works very well. And all in a lovely old cinema building.
m. h.
Good service 👍 cheap price , one of the nice Weatherspoons .
r. l.
Well its a special place an old cinama one nicest weather spoons. Around on 3 levels with terrific staff who look after there eating areas well protected with mask's.
The feds fabulous I've twice in the last week only due to helping the hospitality
Industry as the government asked.
But now I told Witherspoon in all areas are continuing with reduced prices on all meals but don't forget the Ale it's less than £2 a pint on some beers .
I SUGGEST you go and have a great night out you've all stayed home for a long time now, SO ENJOY YOURSELF
A. R.
Breakfast was really good and staff amazing, great place for a pint, thoroughly recommend
L. H.
Dark place inside food good.
Nice place for locals
W. M.
Down to earth boozer with probably the best food I've ever had in a wetherspoon. Top work, will be back soon👍🏻
W. S.
Late lunch with family and we took our time over it!. Excellent staff who are trying to keep a high level of cleanliness, whilst keeping a sense of fun and enjoyment that people come to a pub for. I needed to return one beer, as it didn't taste right and this was done with minimal fuss or issue. Some people complain about Wetherspoons food, but I had the ham, eggs and chips and it was cooked perfectly.Recommended.
S. S.
Convenient for the Metro station. Staff were very polite and helpful. Food was good and there was a good selection of real ales, all very inexpensive.
g. “. M. M.
Just a great place to visit clean and tidy. Good food and great prices on drinks two Stella's £5 65 couldn't believe it. Friendly staff and atmosphere, no idiots, nice beer garden and Tram service on the doorstep. What more do you want
B. c.
Great pub, I always go there when I travel to my Manchester office.
Great service and great food.
Prices are fantastic when you compare them with London
N. S.
Grate burger and a pint staff where busy with it being table service but I was never left waiting for a drink or my food
N. A. P.
Cozy place, decent prices with good portions. Overall experience 8,8/10.
N. G.
Very good value and friendly staff
C. C.
One of my favorite spoon really nice always got a decent atmosphere and very nicely priced too.
B. “. B.
Part of Manchester close to United for catching the tram to the game, or into the city. Warm friendly staff cheap beer and good food.
R. P.
Great choice of real ales. Inexpensive. Fast service despite being very busy with pre-match traffic. All beers in top condition. We were a party of four and 2 had food and enjoyed immensely. All had different beers, including bitters, lagers and Guinness. All more than happy with the quality. Recommended.
m.
Great food great beers and great Salford people. I highly recommend this Weatherspoon.
J. D.
Nice venue to meet up but staff seemed grumpy and stressed
N. D.
It's actually a nice clean well run spoons.
P. C.
Keeping real ale alive right opposite the tram stop
D. M.
Very busy and one or two people causing trouble in the beer garden due to smoking isssues. Staff as always on top form. Pity there arent any more of them serving.
H. A.
Stopped serving my favorite beer.not impressed.
D. W.
Nice little place. Nothing special. Nice beer garden. Decent amount of tables. Fairly priced. Food isn't out of this world but it's better than a cafe. Good breakfasts. Some bar staff look grumpy as **** but I suppose they are in eccles surrounded by some of Broken Britain's finest.
L. K.
Was rather impressed by the food and the way it had been fitted out. Bits of local history here and there.
Was formerly a picture house and housedthe silver screen disco which at it's time was a luxury nightclub venue.
K. B.
It was very busy when we went on a Sunday lunchtime but we didn't wait long to be served and our food only took the general cooking time. The food was ridiculously inexpensive for what we had and our food was delicious. Slightly over £20 for three adult meals which were so large all three of us left food on their plate. All the staff were polite, courteous and very professional. Highly recommend!
M. O.
Cheerful and cheap, nice food - definitely better than the Wethers' in town!
A lot of nice facts about Eccles frames on the wall adds a lot of character to the interior, as does the carpet.
Been the same lovely staff for years too, which is a bonus as can get along with them.
J. F.
Typical Wetherspoons, Good food, good value, staff appear to be rushed off their feet, probably understaffed. However staff were excellent.
A. D.
It's weatherspoon's so food and drinks wise it's all the same. The staff are friendly but the place has a lot of heavy drinkers who arrive at 8am and tend to stay for good portion of the day. Not the best for people with children.
P. S.
Good food and good beer. I love this place.
M. H.
Ordered food on the app, arrived really quickly and was good too. Very easy to use and navigate the menu. Had breakfast and both mine and the veggie options were really good, especially for the price
R. 0.
Only popped in to wait for a taxi at dinner time on a saturday. Lot of elderly people in here having a drink. Had a quick look at the menu. Seems reasonably priced. Not sure on the quantity of the food or quality.
L. E.
This is yet another fantastic Wetherspoon's pub. Plenty of space, nicely decorated, good toilets, great food, friendly staff and beer from 1.85 per pint. This is a model for how all pubs should be and if they can do it and still make a healthy profit then anyone who charges more is simply ripping you off! No car park but you can park for free nearby in other business's car parks, though they're all pretty full during weekdays.
S. W.
Very friendly and nice place 👌
S. W.
Pretty standard Wetherspoons, plenty of space to sit, standard spoons food, table service etc... Plenty of beer choices, good prices as always, well looked after place. Still needs music and a pool table before I can call it a proper pub though!
A. C.
Lovely beer garden - little sun trap. Ordered two meals and came within 15 minutes - bearing in mind it was rather busy! Drinks were well priced and overall clean and modern.
K. C.
Fabulous vegan breakfast in a lovely historic building
M. W.
As with all Wetherspoons establishments great value for money. This place is a bit slow on clearing the tables, but this could be because it's very busy at certain times. The staff should also be aware of some customers who should be refused further service!
J. C.
Staff excellent with my disabled visitor.
F. L.
Excellent but for one problem, they do not seem to know how to cook chips, as all of us received chips that were both hard and uncooked in the middle. Maybe we had a bad day when the apprentice was making the chips.
M. S.
Fantastic pub. Highly recommended
C. M.
I've eaten here a few times with great service and the food that you would expect, but I have had to knock off 1 star from my rating for this most recent visit due to the lack of competence of the staff that we dealt with. We ordered our food and drink using the app (which works amazingly well) to find when they brought the drinks that they apparently didn't do Pepsi max and they brought a Pepsi instead, fine. However our friend who was with us ordered a Pepsi max minutes after us and it arrived no problem. When the food arrived 20 minutes later we found that we had no onion rings or coleslaw which the menu clearly states should come with ribs and chips. Our friend ordered the same with bacon and cheese as an extra - the bacon and cheese were there but he had half the number of ribs we did. We asked the waitress who offered to go check and then never came back. Unfortunately we were in a rush so didn't have a chance to follow up.
S. P.
typical wetherspoons, good atmosphere plenty of choice on the food menu. breakfast very nice & great price plenty of selection of beers Les & lagers..
T. L.
This is the first pub I ever went to in Eccles so it has a special place in my heart 😍
The food menu is massive and has a lot of vego options. Really good value for money for food and drinks. I think I got a round for 6 plus food for £22. Bargain!
Family friendly and close to everything else in Eccles.
L. F.
Been here a few times now, have cisited a few Weatherspoons across the country, this is a good one, some in city centres seem to be a bit more expensive than others. Eaten here too and never had any complaints. Earned the 5 stars in my book
A. G.
Friendly and welcoming staff, with a chef who knows how to produce well cooked meals following a set menu, yet making it all seem special.
The AC was very welcome on a wickedly hot day
J. B.
Beautiful chicken and bacon salad for lunch
P. W.
The good old Eccles Cross, a nice characteristic weatherspoons with nice food and good service. The staff are friendly and it is a perfect starting point to your night out at the tram stop and bus station are directly opposite. Drinks are well priced and the food isn't bad either.
P. C.
Very clean adhering to covid rules. Lovely staff they carnt do enough for you. Food was really good I use weather spoons a lot for lunch will go again.👍
S. L.
As in all Wetherspoons, great value for money. Had the creamy mushroom risotto, same as in the pub in the Trafford centre, but nearly £2 cheaper & far nicer. The wine was cheaper too.
T. V.
I came in the pub around 11:40pm on a Friday night desperate to go home after an hour in the cold. My battery died and there was no taxi or a bus to be seen. Somebody approached me right away and when I explained my bad situation, they were ready to help me charging my phone and get a cuppa tea. Massive thank you to the kind gentleman and the pretty lady with the glasses for making my otherwise bad Friday night better! Lina x
A. B.
Its a spoons . Clean. staff Ok. Thats about it really food was good hot when it came warm plates 4*
S. R.
I Liked This Place Because The Food Is Very Nice ! The Toilets Are Lovely, And The Staff Are Really Freindly There !!! Although , My Nana Ordered A Vegetarian Lasangne And They Gave Her A Beef Lasangne, She Only Noticed Until The 3rd or 4th Scoop , My Grandad Told The Manager And He Laughed . But , I Ordered A Kids Chocolate Fudge Brownie With Vanilla Ice Cream , They Had None So They Gave Me A Adults Chocolate Fudge Cake For The Same Price Of A Kids .
N. M.
I travel up and down the country on business and usually the hotel food is very over priced and over rated so I keep my eye open for a Wetherspoons. I'm up this way all this week so I tried the Eccles Cross. I had the 12oz steak and as usual for a Wetherspoons it was very good. I'll be back tomorrow. As per most Wetherspoons it's quite busy but rightly so. The locals are well mannered and rather respectable. Probably rammed at the weekend. Well done Wetherspoons! Cheers.
M. M.
Lively Wetherspoon house that opened in the late 1990s if my memory is right. Located on Regent Street and opposite the eastbound bus stop and the tram terminus. Formed from a one-time cinema, the outline of the theatre style seating can be decerned on the ceiling as you enter. Always busy, friendly staff, and a good range of cask ale at bargain prices.
L. X.
It was really busy but the food only took 25mins to arrive. It was tasty and very good value, so were the drinks. 5* hygiene rating, most important 😎
J. W.
Always has a great selection of real ales at great prices
G. W.
The prices and the food are excellent as in any Wetherspoon's. The place is dated and dingy and it doesn't feel like a nice place to be. I'd not recommend it
B. K.
Poor selection of Real Ales. Many handpumps advertising ciders which come from the chillers! Didn't even have any large cups to enjoy the very reasonable priced filter coffee @ only 80p with free refills.
Reasonable
J. E.
I visited around 11am Saturday. It was fairly quiet so service was as you would expect. All tables were clean and clear of clutter Only stayed for one drink but would visit again
r. w. r.
Nice pub with helpful staff.
G. B.
Good food friendly service with a smile had time to talk to you
J. R.
The new decor means this is now an attractive Wetherspoons pub. Over the week there is usually an interesting range of real ales on sale, and well kept. Prices are reasonable.
J. H.
Excellen staff and service.
Beer range and pricing spot on.
Customers very friendly and welcoming.
Transport links from Machester 1st class Metro tram too the front door.
A. O.
Best food wetherspoons has ever served!
T. V.
Excellent service and social distancing observed hand sanitisation stations are plenty table service via the app quick and easy to use would recommend a visit
B. a.
A converted former cinema.. friendly staff reasonably priced free refills on tea and coffee.small, clean seating area outside. Small free parking area to the rear..
P. A.
Great pub. One of the better Wetherspoons I've been in. Staff very friendly and good atmosphere. Cracking pint of Guinness too
A. N.
Good food good beer toilets smell of piss though. Polite staff.
Cleaners could do a lot more.
Under average but above bad.
C. G. O.
Great Sunday service and food, the staff were really helpful and pleasant... I would definitely recommend coming here for a full English, it's the most important meal of the day
l. l.
Ordered Sunday Roast Beef dinner - came - no meat - sent back - came back - 1 slice of beef (obviously beef because it was brown and tasted like beef) and 1 chunk of PORK!! (obviously PORK because it was white with pork fat on it and tasted of PORK!!)..sent it back - was told because I'd eaten the veg and Yorkie pud they would not refund me, and that they thought it was beef because it smelled of beef - it had the bloody gravy over it..Young waitress said not to blame her because she was only 17 and didnt eat this sort of stuff in anycase..not once did I blame her - asked for manager but was told she was too busy - they said they were going to send it back to where it came from because all their meat comes in plastic bags pre-portioned..eeuuww = boil in the bag comes to mind!! very disappointed..
A. B.
I am from Australia & always visit The Eccles Cross when i am in Eccles. I love Strongbow & it Australia we do not have Strongbow Extra Dry. The food is good, most of the staff a great and the Strongbow is good & at a good price. I will return😀
J. B.
Enjoy my visits to Eccles cross every week. BUT as the winter is setting in, it is so cold therefore uncomfortable. Some of the staff agree, others fob you off. People eating have to wear coats. Not a good advertisement. Even in summer manager says cannot control heating but cold air is bellowing out. Can it not be turned off if not controllable.
C. M.
Went here with the family and it was their first time. We knew about the app and when everything arrived promptly and was tasty they were convinced it was a decent place.
B. D.
Classic Wetherspoons experience with cheap beer and food, but also what would appear to be quite a good local population.
Cask ales have never seemed at their best but with Leffe at £2.99 a bottle you cannot complain. Not to mention the special offer on the american Six Point beers – now there's a bargain.
Overall, far from a bad pub.
Z. M.
Its a very good place. Sunshine, cocktails, beers, food and happiness
L. B.
More of a local spoons but food excellent and staff welcoming
L. C.
Great pub give it a try plenty of drinks to choose from
S. B.
Nice meal poped up Salford hospital thought I'll would have spot to eat with da wife before heading back Crewe so found this pub in eccles. Can't moan 👍
S. W.
Always bang on the food here. Rate this and the bury branch the best for food allday long! Friendly staff too!
S. Y.
Like all Weatherspoons pubs. There is an excellent selection of alcohol available, and outdoor seating area. Shows premier league matches also. Recommended 👍
T. M.
Typical Wetherspoons fair. Visited at lunchtime with work colleagues. Food was ok. Service ok. Would go again but everyday food mostly microwaved so nothing special.
T. E.
Me n my mam.lv going in the Eccles cross.been in today.ad a bottle wine n a nice chill.normally we eat.thanks for a great service lovely staff so friendly.xx
s. a.
Great and nice
S. H.
Not bad, usual wetherspoons, bit dark and dingy, full of men looking lost in the afternoon (like myself). Few asleep in their pints. Coldest place on Earth, which was a good thing as it was scorchio outside
J. R.
Always good food
M. B.
Friendly service, has had a bit of a facelift since I last came in and looks better. Good was ok usual wetherspoons good nice and cheap. Fairly busy for a Friday lunchtime
P. C.
Very lovely place . Very homely and staff were very nice also.
B. G.
Great service and good beers at an affordable price.
E. J.
Garlic bread was nice, although too big so I had to take it home 😂 cocktails was well much aswellx I recommend tutti frutti
L. W.
Staff always pleasant and helpful, good food and drinks selection, facilities always clean and well looked after.
M. L.
Like most Wetherspoons it's obvious where you should sit of you're not a regular. Upstairs. Good burgers though.
j. b.
Love this place, choose it every time we have family meals out, good food reasonable prices 😊 great atmosphere and lovely staff☺
B. P. B.
Cheap ale, plenty of parking space at good price
C. B.
Standard weatherspoons. Its pretty much what you expect from the chain. Clean, cheap with decent food. The drinks selection is quite good.
P. R.
Food was very good and value for money plus you can refill your coffee or tea mugs lots
G. D.
Great place same old weathered red faces day and night but nevertheless a homely joint. Beer and food prices are super smashing great.
R. M.
Really Great Pub & Great Food
A. A.
Nice food good wine . need more bar staff though when it gets busy. Toilets need a good bleaching apart from that gets good friendly crowd in
T. R.
Good choice of beers and all at a reasonable price. Very good food and if you get the chance, you must try the Curry Club !
B. M. M. F.
Great range of beer, excellent food. Good service. Pleasant atmosphere. Very good
N. B.
Great friendly staff, cheap drinks, tasty food, 1 stop on train from Manchester. Clean and relaxed. What's not to love?
J. W.
Good pub couldn't want for a better place to have a drink and something to eat. I would recommend it to anyone
P. H.
Very busy but not kept waiting for service too long - a reasonable selection of beers on offer and cheaper than other Wetherspoons in the neighbouring towns
N. B.
Ale was nice .. food not so much. It not the best Wetherspoon's I've been in and I would describe the place as functional. Beer food then out.
D. B.
Wetherspoons eccles is one of my favourite places as the staff are lovely the food is always good ,,the place is always clean as the staff are always on the ball at clearing tables and serve food with a smile ,,.
M. K.
Great service lovely food fast bar service and people down to earth.
Comes recommended.
I. C.
You all know that I'm a BIG SPOON'S 🥄 FAN and guess what.......... The Eccles Cross is a.........wait for it............ It's a Spoon's 🤗🤗🤗
P. B.
Cosy nice clean pub
E. D.
Spoons means cheap drinks, locals seemed friendly bunch
D. T.
Friendly usual staff good breakfasts, good meals and drinks, cheaper than Trafford centre weatherspoons, now new problem is new staff who ignore you when want serving, by walk away serve someone else, or watch a dish washer till it finish while you wait?
L.
Called in for a coffee one Sunday tea time. Quite busy and good atmosphere but only one person serving behind the bar.
b. w.
A typical chain pub decore wise. Good drinks selection and staff are friendly. The sign of a good pub is being full, it was
D. R.
Just been for a meal Good food for a cheap eat place
Great staff very friendly and helpful ,atmosphere good Used to be an old cinema called the regent they have done a amazing refurbishment
S. W.
It's really a good place for food and cheap 🍺 beer alot of slot machines in there for the gambler to waste all there wages on which I have a problem with, as I have a problem with gambling and I am not sure how much you wanted me to say but it is a problem
V. S.
Great pub. Very clean. Fast service. Lovely hot food highly recommended
J. B.
Had food, came out fresh. Plenty of seating. Lovely staff
L. M.
You usually get the Eccles folk hanging around in here so expect a bit of banter! The food is ok, not great. But it is very cheap - no complaints.
M. R.
Smashing cheap double brandies and a good catch up with my pals!! Cheers!!
J. W. M.
Not really a place I frequent, just the odd pint now and then, but nice place to visit.
J. T.
Really enjoyed the food, and loved how simple it was too order the food and pay for it using the phone app.
M. H.
It's ok, not my favourite place but it's a popular bar, that said the food is excellent and inexpensive.
A. B.
Great beers great prices only problem was the bar staff thought he was the king of banter.
c. p.
Food as good as ever staff and service not up to standard of other wetherspoons we have visited
S. R.
