Nice find- bit of a hidden gem. We had food here a few weeks ago! Nice outside area- and even better if you walk there by the canal. Food is great, staff are friendly. I would advise booking in advance.

Great pub, good place to spend an evening after a hard day on on the canal. Staff where friendly and welcoming. Food was good and reasonably priced. Dog was made welcome with a bowl of water and dog treats. Would recommend to boaters and all. :)

Really lovely pub. Have been here a few times before but not recently. It was quite busy and I heard quite a few people come here to watch the fireworks that were happening down the road. Quite young staff here and thought maybe inexperienced but the guy who served me was very accommodating. I wanted a cocktail and he told me to go and take a seat and he would come over with some suggestions. This was great to hear. Someone who didn't mind making an effort. He came over and gave us a few options and also some recommendations. I picked 2 I liked the sound of and ordered them. Very happy with my choices. We ordered food which was absolutely gorgeous and very tasty. The young guy who served our food was lovely and chatty. We had a great night and really enjoyed our time here. Will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you for a lovely evening here. 5 ⭐

Gorgeous setting for a meal during the day after a walk but equally lovely in the evenings. Traditional English pub with a great history, tied in to the local mining museum. Open fires in the colder months making it such a cozy setting and lovely outdoor area for warmer months. My most recent visit was after a change of landlord/lady. The food really delicious with great service. I'm vegan and had a really fantastic choice of options. My omnivore friends were equally delighted with their meals. Dog and child friendly.

Great pub. Second time I’ve been and food great both times. This time we rocked up without booking with muddy boots, a child and dogs on busy Sunday. Not ideal for them. Nonetheless they found us a table. Accommodated my mums dietary needs by letting her order off menu and were friendly and welcoming the whole time. So lucky to have this pub on doorstep.

Let me recommend the gammon steak: not the usual thin slice we normally get but a good half inch thick steak! It was juicy,succulent and tasty,best I’ve had! I should also mention the staff who were the friendliest bunch you could wish to meet. My thanks to them all. It was my first time in here but definitely not my last!

We were quite disappointed when we went that they were missing quite a lot of their menu that day, including most of the veggie menu. We also ended up not getting dessert because no one came over with a menu/ to take our order for some time after they cleared the plates. Visited on Saturday 20th Aug with family for booking at 6.45. Was surprised how quiet it was as pre covid it was always packed. Got shown our table and waiter was quickly over with menus and took drinks order which turned up quickly. We then had about a ten minute wait before someone came to take our food order. Wasn't surprised really as they only had two people waiting all the tables. Food took an absolute age to come out. Saw a few people approach the waiters to ask where their food was. I get that there may be a shortage of staff, there may be people off sick but the staff should set your expectations and let you know there will be a long wait. We could see into the kitchen and could see some food under the heaters that was there for at least 10 minutes. Staff kept going into the kitchen and coming out but the food remained there. We said maybe they were still waiting for one of the other meals. Eventually our food came out and I could see it was the food that had been sat there. It was hot, I will say that but I had the Tik Masala and it was quite dry and small. No apologies were given for the long wait. Trying to order more drinks was hard as the waiters didn't check back. Because there was only two of them I get they were busy but the service really let it down. Despite being dry the curry was really nice as was the rest of the food. This was the saving grace and will definitely return and hope the service has improved.

Was a good pub when I first started work as an apprentice underground mechanic in the 60s, still going strong after all these years. Well worth it to call in for a pint or something to eat especially if you are using the canal towpath for a walk or cycling.

Charming pub/restaurant set beside the canal. Had the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, followed by the apple and rhubarb crumble with custard which was plentiful and had the best crumble topping. Service was exceptional. All in all a fabulous lunch in a lovely setting. Will definitely return.

Just called in for lunch , what a hidden delight , food exceptional , started off with breaded mushrooms , arrived piping hot , friend had the prawns , then had the rag pudding , hadn't heard of it before , what a treat , like a steak pudding but flatter top marks for flavour , again arrived piping hot , served with chips and veggies, friend had the haddock which she thoroughly enjoyed, finished with a latte and friend had a liqueur coffee , price very reasonable just under £25 for everything, staff very friendly and polite , dogs can sit outside and water is provided, toilets spotless , 1 normal toilet and 1 spacious disabled toilet with baby changing station will def be going back

Had a lunchtime stop here whilst I was on a walk along the Bridgewater Canal. It's midway between Boothstown & Leigh. Very inviting looking from outside & from canal towpath with canalside outdoor seating if preferred. Walk in visits are welcomed. I chose to sit inside & all current safety protocol in place with screens between tables & table service only. Food menu has mostly pub type favourites with some decent beer choices as well. Front of house staff friendly & helpful. I chose the beer battered cod, chips & mushy peas which was excellent, really well made & was a very generous portion, pleased to say also served on a large plate rather than the silly modern trend of slates & boards ! All the food I saw looked very appetizing & well presented. Also had a couple of Taylors Landlord & the whole lunch was really good value. Inside really clean especially the Gents which was spotless. Recommended & I will return soon.

Lovely place to stop and eat, came here to eat with family. Food is inexpensive and you get plenty for your money. I had the mushroom stroganoff as a main and it was really good so I recommend that even if your not a vegetarian. Staff are friendly and wasn't that busy when we were there. Only problem was staff member pulled a face when we were paying as we said we wanted to pay separately and split the bill in half....bit of a smile would have been good...but rest of staff were excellent and will be coming again!!

Gone are the days when you could go inside and sit at a table and get served with no hassle ! Now you have to book and that’s if you can get through to book a table, when we arrived liads if reserved tables but hardly anyone in probably till later. We’d brought my 94 yr old aunt out of her care home as it’s her favourite place to be told they were fully booked. The food is very good but the management side is very poor. All not lost we went elsewhere and had a fabulous meal which she thoroughly enjoyed, will certainly go back there !!

Very busy as it was Mothers Day, but the service was excellent and the staff were friendly, happy, and chatty. Food was very good, especially the 'homemade' choices. It's a shame that they appear to use frozen chips. Overall, a happy family eating experience. Especially liked the Cookie Dough Salted Caramel Crunch, see photo.

Definitely needs more bar staff. Was very busy and only one very young man serving. Had to tell him twice what drinks I wanted (only ordered 3) Over £10 for a bottle of cider and 2 pints of draught coke and then he told me it was £9 something then changed his mind. Didn't order food so cannot comment. Lots of empties left on tables. Setting is lovely as it is right next to the canal.

Although we d booked a table for 6, two weeks in advance, for our sisters birthday, we had an hours wait for our meal. This was explained as soon as we arrived, and it was really busy., for a Sunday evening. But the roast dinner was worth waiting for. Most of us had the beef, and it was delicious.

Came for dinner on Sunday afternoon, i had booked and when we arrived we waited at the desk for someone to check us in, this didn't happen so we went to the bar and before speaking to a member of staff we saw our table so sat down. A young lady came over and took our drinks order returning with our drinks after about 5 minutes, she then took our food order, we waited about 40 minutes for our foor to arrive, during that time it was about 35 minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted another drink. The food was very nice (i had fish and chips which was very nice as it always has been.) My wife's food was also veey well cooked and hot. My only complaint was that they seem to be a few staff short. I am missing the black pudding in a pepper corn sauce, maybe they could add it too the Aug specials..

This is a lovely pub by the Bridgewater canal with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff manage Covid protocols very well. Food is tasty and modestly priced with smaller, very cheap portions for those with small appetites. There is always at least one good cask ale available and sometimes three. Great staff

Covid rules adhered to from the moment you arrive, making for a safe and enjoyable time. This pub is on one of our favourite walks along the Bridgewater canal, so we will definitely be back

We went to the boat house for lunch on Thursday. There was 5 of us. Although the pub had a lot of people in it there was plenty of room. There is an extensive menu to choose from and also a special board. All of the food we ordered was excellent but were quite big portions but I think they do a lighter version. This is a lovely pub with canal setting. We have had many a good meal here, very generous portions and well priced.. the Sunday lunch is fab. We visit this place a few times a month, staff are always very friendly. Only downside is the small carpark.

Nice to finally see the place open for drinks. All covid secure all staff wearing masks except 1, eventhough your outside if your getting close to people which she was some form of mask is needed. My friend and I were able to eat from the midweek set lunch menu; incredible value, 2 course lunch with drinks around £15 per head! Quaint setting canalside. Lovely pub. Food was reasonably priced and good. Friendly, helpful staff. Small outdoor seating area. Car park is very small though, we ended parking a few streets away, only a minute or so walk though.

On the banks of the Bridgewater canal, the Old Boat House is just off the east lands road. We called in about 1pm and it was busy. But we managed to get a table and I'm glad we did. We had 2 children with us, the staff provided colouring book and pencils for them. After we ordered our food there was a quite lengthy wait....but the food was definitely worth the wait. I had the best burger ive had in a long time. The outside seating area is ideal to watch the barges going by on the canal. There is a car park here too. Definitely recommend this place.
