The Salutation was a wonderful place to end my nostalgic stroll around the campus. The pub is in great condition & so is the range of Bollington cask ales. Well done Dermot! Looking forward to another visit in september & listening to some more of your Mcr tales!

Charlotte Brontë who is said to have started her famous "Jane Eyre" at this 19th century inn might have saved this placed from eaten up by this interchangeable faceless university buildings. The dark stout beer and the veggy burger are good, staff is nice and the typical locals complete the picture of an normal pub - just avoid looking out of the window, it's too bizarre. Highly recommended!

Great old style, traditional looking Pub. Great beers, even greater choice of beers, ales, ciders, wines, spirits and liqueurs. All served by excellent bar staff. Also, great food on offer all accompanied by a pleasant, friendly atmosphere. Will definitely eat and drink there again, no problem.

Great pub - genius idea - proper immaculate Victorian boozer (superb architecture) - as a student union bar. Tucked away amidst the increasingly impressive high rise MMU campus - it's a real oasis with decent ale and well priced grub (Inc selection of Pie Minister specials). Nice touch with a blue plaque inside commemorating Frank Side Bottom's last go. Well worth checking out.

Nicely renovated old pub which once stood forlorn among demolished areas but now is surrounded by Manchester Metropolitan University buildings. Two or three cask beers and a current (2022) CAMRA Good Beer Guide entry.

Curiously under-patronised pub with pricey pints, bare boards (but no sawdust or spittle) and surprisingly few students. Food served, which looks OK - if lacklustre - bar staff strangely unenthusiastic getting towards reluctant and mildly belligerent, the overall experience somewhat underwhelming and hollow.

A lovely little 'local' pub down by the harbour; exactly what we were looking for when we visited the area. They advertise that they DON'T do food, but WILL provide table accoutrements (forks/Salt/vinegar) if you bring your own food. Friendly and accommodating - the way a good pub should be! Well done.

It's okay... the menu is very small and consdering the prices probably not worth it unless you get free money on your Met Card. They recently redecorated slightly and got rid of the dartboard so they're now missing the one unique feature they had. There are some board games to play but they're all old - Scrabble is broken and Cranium has mouldy clay. Ultimately it's not much fun or good food. I'd stay away unless the Union is full and you get it free.

Due to the students union being understaffed we had to wait longer for food, but It didn't take long considering. They have a nice selection of beer, at a good price, and on occasions I have visited is quite quiet. Equal amount of students and non students attend here which is quite nice.

OK for a quick bite. It was steak Thursday so £10 for a 10oz rump and 8oz ribeye. Cooked OK except for well done, which looked cremated, but beef itself was a bit tasteless. Good range of beers though l!

Salutation is a great pub. A little out the way for a lunch time at work but always worth the trip. The food quality is decent and the beer is good too. Quite a fan of Camdon Brewing Co now.

I was living abroad, (Originally from Portland, Maine) getting a degree at Man Met, and was delighted to see this pub was on campus. I was going through an incredibly difficult time in my life (Divorce, Moving overseas, New social circle,) and I popped in to see if a drink would help. The very first thing on tap was "Portland IPA" a beer brewed in my home city back in the states. I was dumbstruck. It tasted amazing, and I got the bangers and mash to go with it. I ate there about twice a week for the next three years. I have tremendously fond memories of this place, and would strongly reccomend it to anyone feeling lost, homesick or alone. Cheers!

For a Saturday night it was eerily quiet. Apart from 2 other people my group of 5 were the only ones there. It was very nice and quiet for this reason, although the drinks aren't the cheapest it's nice and close for me so I will definitely come back. The staff was friendly and funny, they let us finish our drinks before leaving when they closed.

It was really great. I wanted to get lunch on my own and escape Xmas nonsense and this was perfect. Good food and only one other person in the pub who was recording agressive sounding football based insults on his phone to his friend in a proper Manc accent. It's a proper real pub.

Walked in from the street With my spaniel dog & was welcome in by the bar staff. Myself & my girlfriend with our 11yo son & 12week old daughter was comfortably seated at a table in a clean tidy environment. We ordered food & coffees which was served in 30mins. We throughly enjoy 2 hours of rest & conversation with the locals & staff. Next time im in manchester ill be eating there again. Thank Salutation.

If your a historian then pay this place a visit. Blue plaque outside reads, Charlotte Bronte stayed here and began writing her novel Jayne Eyre... Inside you'll find a selection of ales and some great conversation.... Doesn't sell mant traditional largers though

The prices might be slightly higher than usual for a pub near University, but the food is pretty decent and we occasionally go especially when the Starbucks is full, baring in mind it is staffed mostly by University students, attracting common people, students and academics, it's pretty good and does have a decent drinks selection for the size

the Salutation is owned and operated by Manchester Metropolitan University Students' Union. There never was a beer garden or student hall developments at the back. There was a cruddy rear access avenue which, with the development of the new £10million Students' Union building at the back, got ripped up and replaced with a brand new beer garden. Along with the new building development, The Salutation received a £235,000 refurbishment of its own. This, along with a change in management and a new food menu, has seen the little pub reopen with a new lease of life.
