Good place for karaoke, very cheap drinks, crowd is generally okay. The place has a reputation for being a bit rough however you will get no trouble unless you're looking for it, noticed very few altercations here, many places are worse in this respect. The crowd is very responsive to the karaoke singers, definitely give it a go if you like a good sing.

Love this little place in the centre of Newcastle. 2 minute metro walk from monument metro station and close to local bus services. You get a nice drink from the black garter and is at a really reasonable price. They sell food here but I have never ate here yet. Its quite a popular little pub situated on the outskirts of the grainger Market. It has a great atmosphere and does a great little karaoke on the night time. The black garter is close to other pubs and plenty of places to eat,Although as I've said the black garter also serves food.it is also close to shops and eldon square. You can drink outside as it has a nice little seating area outside. It is also wheelchair accessible and also has accessible toilets x

I had heard many negative things about the place. The pub was actually quite nice and indicative of most city centre pubs. It has lots of racing and football on the screens and the beer is average price for city centre. Some of the characters in there are rather salubrious and I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. The staff were friendly and helpful and the toilets were clean and well maintained.

Black garter is a very busy city center bar that I use frequently when I'm in the toon great people cheap beer loads of tvs went for start of cheltenham plenty of seating plenty staff so no hanging g about for your pint!!! Proper boozer 😉

I love this pub, yes Its had a reputation, but I've worked here for years and met some wonderful people over that time, the characters that make the pub along with some great staff creates an atmosphere you just can't get anywhere else. I can't wait till all of this horrible time is over so we can get back to operating as normal. Well done to Cheryl and all of the staff in these trying times operating as best they can.

First time at the black garter last friday night, myself and the girls really enjoyed our night. The staff are every helpful and friendly and seemed to get on really well with the customers. The drinks are really well priced, we ended up staying in the pub most of our night and had one of the best nights would highly recommend popping in.

This is a tremendous drinkers bar make absolutely no mistake! No kids, no cocktails and no messing about. I pop in a few times a year to fire several down. Don't get me wrong, on my first visit I was somewhat apprehensive. I was wearing my 1983 Liverpool trackie top too by chance, but I ploughed in first (my drinking comrade is a six foot bald meathead type. I ain't, but I insisted on heading in). After some very minor friendly 'stick' the settled vibe was absolutely sound. The prices are tremendous! Good quality beer too, plus plenty of screens around showing Sky Sports action. If you aren't looking for a posers bar and require top ale at highly realistic prices then you must go.

Cheap and cheerful pub located in the heart of Newcastle. Corona virus measures are a one way system through the building, drinks are paid for at the bar and brought over to your table by a member of staff. A shield has been placed on the bar along with markings on the floor to help with congestion within the building. They accept card payments also.

As a Post Covid lockdown pub the Black Garter is well run, with decent procedures, and I felt pretty safe. I do miss the music and karaoke, and it's a shame the covid safe queue means the outdoor tables aren't used in the evening. Still worth a look in!
