Reviews of Blackbird Inn
G. F.
Absolutely delicious Sunday lunch! What a feast, everything was sooooo good. I got the trio of meats (beef, pork, turkey) and was asked how I wanted the beef which doesn’t happen very often (good sign). The beef was cooked perfectly pink. The pork belly was bursting with flavour with lovely crackling and the turkey was moist and paired perfectly with stuffing balls and cranberry sauce. The meats were all delicious!
The trimmings and sides were just as good: crunchy veg, perfect roasties and a tasty Yorkshire, although it was just slightly over cooked but it didn’t stop me from eating it all.
The star of the sides was the cauliflower cheese which was baked with a golden brown crust on top and swimming in rich cheese sauce. 👌

The Blackbird, is a well known, loved and tested local in Ponteland, Northumberland just outside of Newcastle. Always very hospitable with a collection of real ales, lagers wines and spirits. Judging from the blackboard, if you are a gin lover, this place would be right up your street! Good seating areas outside, with private parking ( you have to enter your vehicle's registration number into the machine inside the pub).
The food features a good assortment for all tastes.

Very grateful for eating here today as manager first suggested restaurant was full but offered us a table if prepared to wait 20 minutes. I don't often get to enjoy a Sunday lunch so we waited.
Restaurant bar area was little bit noisy and may put some people off. However we were near the bar and enterence.
Food took a while to arrive but when it did, it was generous helpings. I chose the lamb and my mum eat the turkey. I think she was hungry as normally goes for half or small portions. There was plenty of veg and caul cheese was nicely gratinated, lamb soft and tender and turkey met with satisfaction. Gravy not to thin and Yorkshire Pudding good too.
To finish not much room so we both shared ice-cream which was of a good standard.

Felt Terrible as We Were a Table of 8 and 4 Couldn't Get There and The Rest Were Late Because of Diversions and Weather But Staff Were Lovely and Waited and Even Gave Us The Full Deposit Off Our Meal. Food Was Lovely, I Ordered From The Xmas Menu, Pate Starter, Beef Main and Chocolate Orange Dessert, All Very Good! Staff Were Very Nice and The Restaurant Was Nicely Set Out and Cosy. Would Recommend.
M. T.
Nice vegan burger! Cosy atmosphere in the pub and very dog friendly is a plus. However a bit let down slightly by a somewhat abrupt rude waiter and pretty slow service
R. P.
Really lovely pub. Relaxed and comfortable for a couple of pints after work. Equally as great for a celebration meal night out. On a weeks visit to Ponteland and very happy to have found this gem of a pub, A slight bit over our budget as would have liked to eat there again. None the less, we didn't mind paying as it was so delicious. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Great spot.

Best atmosphere in a pub at Christmas time. Had a lovely time visiting the Blackbird Inn this Christmas. Food was very good and fresh. Turkey tasted like it should and not out of a packet. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Felt like a scene out of a Christmas film. Would definitely recommend!

This is a really cosy pub with a good atmosphere, the restaurant is lovely with gluten and dairy free menus as well as the main menu. The wine list is good and not eye wateringly expensive, there is also a good selection of beers. The staff are very friendly and it's also dog friendly in the bar area, overall a very pleasant experience for a night out or a lunch.
G. A.
Always had a nice meal here, sometimes hard to get a table as very popular. Great service and lovely menu. Remember to register your car number plate on arrival.
P. D.
We booked for Sunday lunch for 4 on 20/11/22 @ 12.30. Taken straight to our seat In the tunnel room, cosy and warm. Drinks to start, and mains served very quickly, hot, tasty, and generous, followed by desserts. A lovely meal in a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere, with great service by cheerie and pleasant staff. What more could you want. We will be back. Many thanks.

The food here was amazing! Went here with a few college mates today and was stunned by the variety of dishes available. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but they happily cater to those as well on their menu. The set lunch menu and bar snacks were all reasonably priced as well as drinks. Overall amazing experience!
J. M.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal this evening ribeye steak chips and all the trimmings . Delicious + you get a bottle of wine free. Excellent
S. H.
A very friendly pub that is also dog friendly. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our taste in food, varying from the set meals as some of us were vegetarian. Unfortunately they got two of our meals wrong but were quick to respond and correct our orders. The set evening menu is quite expensive but they did have offers on steaks and had plenty of side orders etc. They are also in the Camra, "Good Beer Guide".
M.
Love the atmosphere in this village pub. Food is always superb with great service.
A. B.
Great value food. Service was fast, and even though it was busy, didn't take too long for food to arrive.
Free parking, but have to register reg number at entrance.
Will definitely be back
G. M.
It always looks appealing when i drive by and we werent disappointed. Gorgeous tasty homemade burger, crispy fries, followed by warm chocolate brownie. Delicious, will definitely go back soon!
T. C.
Adult main meals were lovely, really good portions even though it was in the lighter meal section. Child's meal however was poor. Chicken nuggets were processed Chicken so spongey and tasteless, infact tasted more like fish as they were obviously from the same fryer. Option 3 was peas or Gravy....couldn't have both ...worked out you couldn't have Gravy if you got mash and veg.... chocolate ice cream however was divine. A tad expensive for the kids..no drink included either.

This place blew me away .
Whoever assembled this team should be proud of them and themselves.
The food will speak for itself. Loudly.
I've done pretty much all of Northumberland top pub food recommendations and we have some great places.
This place is summat else.
We had a feast of pink sirloin roast beef with cali cheese and stuffing as extras but before that we had Tempura starters with frankly the largest freshest prawns I have ever seen.
The beef was insane.
The food was all of such a delicious standard that the value shines through.
I almost felt as though I'd underpaid literally beyond stuffed and we even took home a small tray for Northeasts luckiest dog
Sunday roast league these guys are Real Madrid although looking at midweek menu it seems that they've struck a lovely balance between foodie and food.
I can't wait for my next visit maybe Autumn and this time sit inside. (Outdoor on the benches was lovely in the heat)
Even my pint had so much life in it , almost like a commercial.
The staff forgot to bring a starter out (big deal) but their reaction was truly humbling.
They cared!! It mattered to them!!
How on earth you get a team this good post pandemic is beyond me.
Anyways. This is perfection.
Find me a better roast in England nevermind Northumberland.
I'll wait.
J. R.
Sirloin beef sunday dinner knocked me socks clean off! Absolutely lush, big portions all hot and fresh - only downside we were sat for 15 mins before someone came to take drinks order but it was busy so I’ll let them off
L. M.
We went for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious! Friendly staff, that made sure we had everything.
Would definitely recommend!!
S. W.
Still ample car parking despite many areas of the large car park, including understandably the disabled parking bays, taken up by temporary outside seating due to COVID restrictions.
Food and service excellent.
A. M.
Quintessential village pub. Great food, great beer and good company. Mark and team always offer a very warm welcome
I. W.
Lovely pub. Nice setting, good food and great beer! We managed to get an outside table straight away just turning up (not possible to reserve tables during Covid measures). Well organised, the staff were all friendly and the service was excellent 👍 …
D. M.
Superb food and service.
D. W.
Brilliant place, steeped in history! The food is awesome, the selection of beverages is good and importantly the staff are friendly!
L.
Nice pub , was very busy , food
was lovely too , didnt have to wait long . Nice atmosphere
J. C.
Food was fantastic, only down side was had to have it in the bar which was so loud , but next time try booking restaurant side ❤️
M. H.
Good service, clean well presented establishment with history. Low and high seating arrangement. Genuine friendly reception on entering. Sunday menu choice of meats, good size portions. Fresh vegetables and hot. Gravy very tasty. Value for money. Would recommend booking in advance.
D. K.
Excellent place to eat. We were there for a family birthday 8 dinners in total Chicken very nice beef came two ways normal sliced roast beef or beef cooked to your liking very nice..turkey nice and cooked perfectly...the lamb was very tasty but as with lamb fatty my advice is ask what its like before you order...last but not least fish (haddock) chips white fish nicely cooked chips try them you will not be disappointed best batter in a long time ....
J. B.
Went in for lunch. The meals on offer were too large. Ended up with more than we could eat. Not cheap. Smaller meals along with smaller prices would work well to gain customer satisfaction.
The vegan meal I had was not very good. Tasted overwhelmingly of pesto and included a large cob as well as a portion of chips: no one should want two lots of carbohydrates, one is enough for anyone.
R. W.
Great pub for a Sunday lunch. Highly recommended. Offering two joints of Beef, depending on preference for rare or more well done. The rare was so tender. Perfect.
D. P.
We spent a love evening at the Blackbird pn the 11th June for our Diamond wedding. 14 of us had a super meal, food and service was great. The room was beautiful, laid out tables great. The y.oung lady who served us was excellent as were all the staff. Thank you Blackbird.
H. H.
Great good, as always. Service was great - staff are really attentive. Great way to start Christmas!
C. P.
Great service and nice atmosphere - really enjoyed dinner here
J. O.
Lush food, friendly staff cosy atmosphere
P. R.
Food was delicious, drinks went down a treat and very friendly staff with fast service
E. 4. P.
£15+ add on which took it up to £20 for an average burger for that amount id expect a Five Guys, staff all very very friendly and very helpful.
C. M.
Over priced area due to house prices being able to afford
On a budget don't think of visiting
I do not have a budget
Great price compared to London for my budget
Cheaper for food in our capital !
Evidence if required to prove

Nice food, quite small inside. Even the small plates were large ( and cost around £9.99)
V. P.
The meal we had was delicious. The staff were excellent. Will definitely be back.
B. T.
Great restaurant, great atmosphere, great food. Friendly staff.
M. B.
Lovely local pubs. Good selection of Ales and beers. Friendly atmosphere
S. C.
Amazing food at a very reasonable price! A very good choice of Gluten Free food too!
T. L. (.
Love this place, we lived in Ponteland for many years and even though we have moved away it's always the first place we think of when we're out for lunch. The fish and chips are very good, and the Asian beef salad is very tasty.
S. B.
Nice atmosphere with excellent food but service a wee bit slow.
R. P.
Meals are excellent value for money the staff are really friendly and helpful go there anytime 😊 👍
J. A.
Just popped in for a drink on a very hot day. Lovely to sit outdoors and have a refreshing drink. Pleasant staff and quick service.
A. W.
Great food with a varied menu and friendly staff

Visited tonight for the first time…. Booked a table easily enough via telephone for food.
The place is clearly a very popular pub as it was extremely busy when we arrived! (Saturday night). We got sat down to our table & served for our drinks within minutes & our food order was taken shortly after.
We opted for fish& chips (me) & the blackbird burger (partner). My fish & chips was absolutely delicious… & after my partner mentioned the brisket was so good about 3 times, I think he enjoyed it too! Great service & super tasty food.
Only reason for 4 out of 5 starts is that the ‘side’ of fries with the burger was quite pitiful & definitely not enough to be classed as a side (I had plenty with my fish & chips though) and the place was extremely hot inside!
Wouldn’t stop us returning that’s for sure!
S. G.
My regular to meet people for coffee and cake. Fantastic location.
V. H.
Lovely atmosphere. Food and service excellent
V. M.
Nice friendly bar and good food. Parking. Outside seating and dogs are welcome. Worth a visit.
M. B.
A nice friendly relaxed pub with a great selection of food and drink
J. J.
Passi ng thru Ponteland stopped for something to eat. Choose from the light bite lunch menu. Our party had fish finger sandwich and chicken wraps. Delicious , well presented and piping hot. Staff greeted us and well pleasant. Checked that our food ok as well. Service was quick as well. Hope to be back. Thank you a pleasant hour or so in your establishment.
S. E.
Lovely pub! Inside and out. Welcoming friendly staff that said hello straight away when we arrived. Very attentive without being over the top. Very very nice food with great vegan options too.
Remember to register your car reg when you park!
A. E.
Great place to go for a meal or just a drink. Lovely atmosphere.
Definitely recommend it.
J. S.
Great food, quick service and good COVID compliance.
J. P.
Went to celebrate a 40th birthday. Good things first... Food excellent, staff pleasant & lovely room. Bad things......weren't allowed to put any photos on the wall and told to remove decorative foil confetti...goodness knows why. Lastly & more importantly, staff made a mistake with the drinks bill, and as the last person to leave was me, I was left to pay the bill of £119.80!! Manager was insistent it was correct and would not look to amend. Be warned.
g. w.
A marvellous place for a bit of food which was outstanding by the way terrific atomsphere even though it was only 5 o'clock ,the blue moon 🌛 Belgium lager was out of this world a well kept pint for sure we will be back ..soon …

Lovely food and excellent choice of local ales. Service was great too. Its an interesting building too. Overall great experience
R. A.
We went in for a bite to eat after a lovely walk, I opted for the fish finger sandwich, absolutely gorgeous! Menu looked amazing will be back!
J. R.
Went to a private party there for a 70th birthday. Staff.food and venue was excellent
S. C.
A group of us had Sunday lunch, food was excellent. I thought it was overpriced until I tasted it....it was one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had, cant wait to go back
P. S.
A very large pub and restaurant in the center of Ponteland. I've yet to eat here. The Inn offers a fine selection of real ales as well as the popular lagers and beers. They have many outside seating including a very large tipi style tent during the current restrictions. Mask are required until seated. The staff were great during our visit. Would like to return to try their food.
J. N.
Slow service, kids meal comes with ice cream, which we did not get as it took so long to be served.
m. j.
We went here as a family of 4 on Saturday 5th June evening. We didn't realise that there were tables upstairs - what a lovely space to eat in. Excellent food both main courses and really great desserts. Service was great as well. Looking forward to going back soon.
F. T.
Good food and choice of beers. If you like gin, they have 50 to chose from.
A. W.
Friendly pub with lovely, well presented food. Good atmosphere.
S. D.
Quite literally one of the best Roast Beef Sunday lunches I’ve ever had.... and trust me I’ve had lots! Service quick and attentive, but not too over the top. Food nice and hot with authentic roast potatoes, flavoursome vegetables and gravy and succulent beef. The atmosphere was extremely warm and welcoming. We all enjoyed our food and left feeling ‘extremely’ full and satisfied. We will be returning!
M. E.
Really nice pub to visit nice outside seating areas
I. B.
Hadn't been for a while and the atmosphere in the bar was great .
Went through to the restaurant and the food and service was excellent.
Plan to go back more often.
N. H.
Nice and friendly place definitely recommend it, it has a very relaxing feel to it, very busy little pub, staff were always on hand and very polite.
J. O.
Excellent pub very friendly staff
H. S.
Pies of the day were delicious, excellent service. If only they still did their sharing platters again.
J. R.
A nice pub. I have been two or three times in recent years. I live outta this part of town, so it's top to revisit every so often. A few Gents and I hit it for al fresco beers last Bank Holiday Monday tea time, right at the back end of summer. It was quite mild to sit outside, which we did. There were children around with their parents. Oh dear. No five starts because I'm not a fan of children in pubs, although they weren't lunatics within their playfulness. We are in current COVID times which seemingly seems to (unnecessarily) fry otherwise logical brains when it comes to social interaction. Be cool, don't be a bulb. This venue adheres to my mantra. Go there.
M. M.
Just had my monthly catch up with my friend here today. Had the tempura cod loin with gnocchi and mushroom sauce absolutely gorgeous followed by apple crumble and ice cream - delicious. Service as always very friendly and attentive even our trainee waitress was really good all served in a warm, beautiful atmospheric restaurant. Thanks again blackbird.
D. S.
Great food, excellent service will definitely be coming back for the Sunday roast
C. N.
One of the best pub Sunday lunches I've had. Not the cheapest but definitely worth the price for good quality food.
K. T.
The lady who served us was exceptional, I would assume she was management. She was very attentive, nothing was too much trouble and she was very accommodating to us and our young son. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. My only qualm is that they salted my sons chips and they were really too salty considering he's a toddler. He did enjoy them and would not stop us returning.
P.
Beautiful historical building.
Lovely traditional pub with very tasteful interiors.
Good selection of real ales. Couldn't ask for more.
J. R.
Roast salmon and the warm Brownie were delicious. Always a good atmosphere and a beautiful building to dine in. Just wish upstairs was open during the week 😊 …
P. J.
Great food and service. Can't fault it.
B. M.
Loads of outdoor seating and a Tepee to drink under. We ate inside, the food was lovely and reasonable given Ponteland is quite a well to do area. Service couldn't have been better (by Sam). Felt pretty Covid safe and our table for six was properly cleaned before we sat down and had plenty space around it. With food, mains, some puds, drinks and a tip the bill came to £25 a head. I can recommend the Haddock and Chips.
A. M.
Enjoyed a fantastic meal with warm friendly service. The atmosphere is great with an easy going vibe.It is the food that stole the show for me.Beer battered haddock, hand cut chips and mushy peas- superb! The fish was sublime, best fish I've had in last 5 years easily. My dad and sister both opted for the duck which Deborah rated highly (praise indeed).Big thanks to Dad for a lovely afternoon out XX.
s.
Arrived on a whim last Friday night before an overnight stay at the airport for a morning flight. Cracking pub. Very busy, nice fire on, superb atmosphere. Our meal was lovely and both in agreement that the prawn dish with the pasta was one of the best we have ever tasted! Will return next time we fly from the Toon.
A. G.
Enjoyable group meal with good food & service
B. B.
If you like Gin then you can't knock the range they have here around 40+
We tried some of the tapas style bar snacks, not a bad price, they were well though out and made with care. The watermelon salad sounds boring but was really different including strands of pickled watermelon rind - delicious and refreshing. Staff were very friendly and happy to chat. It's nicely done out and worth a visit for an upmarket pub/eatery.
C. M.
Superb Sunday Lunch with great service.
S. N.
This is always one of our most frequented places for evening drinks when visiting ponteland. The pub itself is very welcoming and a great atmosphere. Recently went for lunch and the food is amazing. Home cooked, fresh and great value for money. Couldn't recommend enough.
C. R.
Really busy but managed to squeeze us in. Understand why it's busy as the food was lovely. Good service too.
K. H.
Came for Easter Sunday lunch and was one of the best roasts we have had in a long time. Generous delicious food attentive but not fussy service and lovely surroundings. Pleased we left the toon to come here!
O. B.
Visited around midday. There were a few patrons in when we entered but as we were leaving it was a lot busier. We were there for about 40 mins. Stopped for a quick bite to eat and was not disappointed. I went for the Blackbird Beef burger, which had bacon and monetary cheese in it. It came with chunky chips and a couple of onion rings, hence why I ordered an extra portion. The burger itself was dry, but I preferred that. Chips were nice and slightly salted, which I thought was pretty cool. The onion rings were a tad bit on the greasy side but that's to be expected. Mrs opted for haddock Goujons with Skinny fried in a cone and Tartar sauce. Mrs was not a fan of the sauce but enjoyed the rest of her meal. Service was outstanding, cannot fault it. Was asked if everything was OK with our meals as well as if we needed anything else. Food arrived quickly and piping hot. Bill at the end was not overly expensive but the menu is not cheap. Will be visiting again, possibly on an evening. Staff are nice and pleasant and a credit to the establishment. Toilets were very clean too.
S. P.
Service friendly but a bit clunky. Tasty and fresh meals at fair prices, good range of drinks. Delicious desserts!
S. D.
Historic old pub with a unique atmosphere and lovely food
L. C.
Just had lovely meal with family x first time here for me x will definitely be back x staff was friendly and service was good .
M. M.
Loved it, perfect place to end up after a welly walk
S. C.
I would like to thank all the staff for there very professional attitude towards my allergy for all fish and shellfish they could not do enough to make sure there was no cross contamination. Also Sally is most certainly a asset and did everything to make sure the kitchen was aware. Lovely food and staff will certainly return. Sue
S. M.
Friendly Staff hard working
Ordered fish and chips. Disappointed with chips they were to hard would prefer chunky chips
D. P.
So the Blackbird has always been a pub I've loved with the character and hospitality which just keeps getting better. Part of me didn't want to give such a great review as it will mean my local will become harder to book but I seriously can't not after a great evening
The food is amazing - totally recommend the salmon with new potatoes and green beans and the hygiene code since covid is second to none - santisers everywhere / staff with visors and the accommodating tipi if you don't want to sit in is just perfect.
Can't wait for my next visit ....tomorrow while the 50% off is also available 😊
C. L.
Great chips and friendly staff
P. T.
Called for a coffee after working in the area pleasantly greeted by staff well organised with the restrictions in place all staff were helpful and kind and thoughtful appreciated there service in these strange times be assured that i will be calling again when in the area lovely atmoshere with their set up for both food and drink
R. E.
Called in for Sunday lunch on the way home from a weekend away. The food was delicious, I had the lamb and my husband had the meat trio. They're also dog friendly with bowls of water available.
P. S.
Nice pub, good atmosphere and a good selection of beers.. Food let it down in that it is after all a pub, not a high end restaurant. So pub food is relatively expensive EG £10+ so a meal out with the kids is going to set you back £50-60.
For a night out beers only.. good place to go to.
J. J.
Great meals, especially the fish & chips!
M. E.
Great atmosphere, great food, great service.
h. E.
Just a nice pub nice relaxed atmosphere
D. b.
Nice place but thought it was a pub but very much set up for food only on Sundays. Two large wines was over 14 quid so a bit steep for out of town. Lots of dogs barking at each other too.
A. B.
Lovely food, good service and atmosphere. Quite busy.
K. P.
Enjoyed wonderful lunch, outside in teepee, with excellent service.Fo;llowed their advice,of Tempura Prawns, followed by Steak and Ale pie, neither would have been my choice, but so pleased I did..Definitely will return.
Highly visible Corvid measures gave confidence of venue.
P. H.
Hadn't been there for ages, and I mean ages........ What a pleasant surprise. Done up as an old English traditional pub.
Hospitality was great, I called in to have a working lunch. Posh fish fingers sandwich with fat chips. It did exactly what it should have done.
R. T.
Totally different from 12 months ago but even better experience as not as crowded and noisy. Staff still excellent, friendly and attentive. Still serving excellent food at competitive prices.
J.
Excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff, a choice of a smaller carvery would be lovely for those of us with smaller appetites 😊 …
D. R.
Atmospheric and historic building. Excellent parking. Sunday lunch was very good and price was acceptable. We got there at 2.30 pm and although we hadn't booked the efficient staff got us a table very quickly.
L. E.
Took 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive and 45 minutes for our food order to arrive. Wouldn't have minded so much if we'd been told about the wait or the food was amazing. It was just ok and on the slightly pricey side for typical pub food off the a la carte menu. Probably ok if you just want a beer outside on a nice night.
K. B.
Wonderfull little pub in Ponteland, Northumberland. Great choice of food and drinks. Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
j. l.
Great visit, as ever. Good food, good wine and excellent service. Who can ask for anything more?
D. W.
Sunday lunch nice meal good service
C. A.
Great local bar with excellent atmosphere, friendly staff who provide excellent service. Menu is varied and food is excellent. I recently booked the upstairs suite for a small function which was perfect and the in house catering was fantastic making for a very enjoyable occasion.
K. H.
Nice decor, friendly staff and the food was delicious. The only negative was quite a few of the lunch options weren't available which made the selection a bit limited. Would definitely go back.
P. A.
This is a place I go now and again, the beer is always spot on,staff are really nice and it has lovely atmosphere.
S. B.
Food was amazing good prices. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
C. S.
Great guest Ales with a fab gin and wine selection. Can get busy at weekends so best you book tables for food. Good value for money ☺
P. W.

T. A.
Really good food and the service was very quick. The roast came with heaps of veg and extra gravy was given to the table. Fab!
C. B. (.
Great service. Excellent food. A fantastic atmosphere. Definitely will visit again soon. Thank you to all the staff for a great service.
J. G.
Kitchen under remodeling but still managed to get out an excellent meal in a timely manner. Love the selection of Gins (64+). Nice local crowd and the staff is very friendly.
M. R.
Nice food in a lovely place. Good selection of beers. Nicely presented food and tasty. Just a bit on the expensive side as pretty empty during the day.

We visited Blackbird Inn twice during our stay in Northumberland at Capheaton Hall. We so enjoyed the ambiance, food, and service. We came from St Pete Beach, Florida, US. almost 5000 miles away. Everything was perfect and wish this wonderful restaurant was here in Florida.
