Reviews of Cosy Dove
L. W.
Ordered from World Of Wings which I think is in the Cosy Dove? Fantastic wings and fries, plenty of flavour and real meaty wings. I had the Korean BBQ wings which is highly recommend. I ordered via Uber Eats and the food arrived in 30 minutes which you cannot fault. Wouldn’t think twice about orders ring from here again.
A. A.
Clean place. We ordered earl grey tea and the lady in reception didn't know what earl grey tea is !! and we also ordered latte and it was completely undrinkable. It has a very strange taste. I wish the staff to taste it to see how it tastes.
R. R.
Like the name...very cosy. Great bites, the wings are crispy and nice.
J. A.
Food is top draw, excellent wine options. Service is the pinnacle, so polite and professional youd think you were in a high end restaurant, not a warm, cosy neighbourhood bar. Favourite pub in Newcastle
a. w.
Fantastic service. Home cooked good quality food with a real pub feel. A million miles away from a plastic chain pub with kitchens with a 1000 microwave ovens.
N. H.
Love the steak and chips here, the sirloin is delicious and very good quality and a great big size. They have a deal on Thursdays 2 steak & chips for £20, and it is worth every penny. Absolutely delicious and well made, great chef. The servers/waitresses are so sweet and kind, really amazing service. I usually get the the homemade sticky toffee pudding, it is truly delicious and a delicacy. Great atmosphere, great service, great food and great prices.

Nice pub and nice British food. I've been there twice and I would recommend to go there any day except Sunday, because the Sunday's menu has less variety. But food is good, specially the fish and chips and the stews.
P. C.
It's a fantastic place just outside the hustle and bustle of city centre but each time I go I order food. It was light snacks and sandwich yesterday. I like the fact eating area and drinks are separated although you can still stop and order drinks after you've eaten so it's very relaxed. I think it's a hidden gem and gin bar is amazing.
d. b.
Love this pub, just had new bar fitted, very friendly staff and owner.
J. M.
Food was delicious. Generous portions. All home made. The Yorkshire puddings were fabulous!
B. P.
Very good food. Friendly staff
B. R.
Quiet Tuesday lunchtime with a very friendly member of staff of duty. King prawns and sweet chilli sauce for starter were lovely. The quiche for main course was overcooked (very dark crust) and the lady that brought it to the table acknowledged this herself and informed me she had requested a new piece and would bring it over when ready. When it arrived it was lukewarm but that was fine for me. Overall nice, clean place with casual atmosphere and food average.
B. M.
Good food, Good vibes, Good price. Cannot really complain. also fantastic Geordie scotch eggs
C. A.
Tenders unreal. Friendly staff and fast service. Great pub inside and out.
M. L.
Lovely food friendly customer service, pub clean and cozy.
T. G.
Great Sunday lunch. Comfortable pub with food service and a pleasant ambience.
A. P.
Really nice place. Lovely atmosphere and an amazing lamb shank sunday dinner. Bit of mix up with our bill but that got sorted. Happily go back if I'm in the area again
C. J.
Limited but nice menu(understanble in the current times), order at bar and the staff will do the rest. Ample servings and nicely cooked, overall very good.
A. R. M.
Lovely service, great beers and awesome chicken!
G. W.
Popped in on the way home. Decided to have a late lunch and was quite surprised at the selection of ales on offer and the quality of the food that we chose.
M. A.
Nice chilled spot to get full of some slow cooked meats and Beaverton on draught. What more could you want.
L. W.
Lovely staff
Food very good and reasonably priced.
Can view the kitchen from the dining area. Menu serves classic and specials.
a. k.
Lovely food and great service.
M. D.
Clean. Good food. Lovely staff. Magic magpie scotch egg!
S. V.
I went along for the quiz it was a good night out
E. G.
There are so many dishes on the menu and a good selection of vegetarian dishes! The food is absolutely fantastic. Since having the sweet potato fries from here, I feel let down by any I have at other restaurants, they are honestly that good!!
Fantastic range of alcoholic drinks, which are labeled with how local they are too, which is a great touch.
The vibe of the pub is super chilled and friendly, and the staff are so helpful and pleasant. The place is incredibly clean, especially the toilets! Dogs are welcome and there are a few board games to play around the log fire.
The Cosy Dove is an all round great pub and I could not recommend it enough! Everyone should experience the rhubarb and apple crumble, it's like heaven on a plate.
O. B.
I had heard fantastic things about the Cosy Dove so decided to try the Burger and a Pint for £10 deal that they do on a Tuesday. On first glance you have to admire the decor. It is obvious a lot of time effort and money has went into rejuvenating this pub. The server was prompt and courteous and gave us some complimentary home-made bread as we waited - I must say I could have ate a full loaf, it was to die for.
Service of our meal was very fast, when it arrived you could tell time and care were taken in presentation. Regarding portion size I was incredibly satisfied especially since the burger was massive! As well as the size it tasted great, it just melted in your mouth paying a fine compliment to the toasty brioche bun. I highly recommend the triple cooked home-made chips instead of the fries. It is nice to see local produce being sourced and used to make these fresh chips as well as the rest of the meal.
I also managed to squeeze in a sticky toffee pudding for desert and I have to say if you have a sweet tooth like myself you will thoroughly enjoy it. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which really compliments the additional toffee sauce.
Throughout the time I was at the Cosy Dove the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were polite and served with a smile all of the time. Service at the bar was very fast too. I will most certainly be returning to try one of their signature Sunday roasts
m. “. s.
Best scotch egg I have ever had
R. C.
A lovely place to have a drink. Does get quite lively in uni term times due to it being near to one of the big Newcastle University accommodation buildings but it's still a sociable and safe place to celebrate the weekend with friends. Has a car park which is nice for the designated drivers and even a little outdoor area.
M. K.
Big range of spirit and Cedar's. Away from the city noise.
E. S.
This our local. Friendly and with a nice buzz. Good, mainly traditional food at a reasonable price. Good hand pumped beer. Had a major refit not too long ago and is all well kept. Has a pub end and a restaurant end.
C. P.
Lovely food, setting and staff. Oh and the beers good too... Perfect Sunday dinner...
V. Z.
It's really comfortable, warm and cosy, atmosphere is relaxing. I didn't try the food at the time but the beer offered was tasty. I had the opportunity to sit close to an old lady who is apparently a long-time and regular guest there as her portrait is on the wall behind the small table where she sat. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name nor make a picture.
l. s.
Fantastic place, I would definitely recommend the wings or the lamb shank. Really nice service with a wonderful staff. 10/10!!
L.
Visited last night with my husband for food and a drink. 1st time we've been here and we both loved it. The food was beautiful and served fast. The guy behind the bar was so friendly. We cant wait to visit again.
M. J.
superb food great value outstanding service.
T. E.
Nicely decorated, warm, and friendly. There are a couple really cozy nooks to go have a quiet drink/read/chat in, and they've also got a larger dining room for a more open, atmospheric experience, and if the weather's nice, there's seating to the front and side of the building too. Inside, the huge windows let in tons of light, and they have a few (unobtrusive) tellys mounted high to watch the sport on, if you're so inclined. Food was great too, though I recently went when they were a bit understaffed, so it took a long time. They warned me of the wait first though, so no harm, no foul (I only mention it to warn them against a pattern, is all)! At the bar, they have a couple of great cask ales on tap, along with the usual bar-suspects too. I love this spot, and if I still lived round the corner, I'd be here dangerously often!
J. V.
It's nice to have a great pub with a warm atmosphere (open fire!) that isn't a chain (it's not, right?). The burgers are awesome. The only complaint about the pies is that they need some sort of vegetable to do with them.
J. D.
Lovely staff, lovely food, clean and cosy - living up to its name. We enjoyed our meal with friends and hubby liked the ale too. Very happy.
M.
Extremely well run pub, the atmosphere is great & I am not the only one who thinks so with the bar & restaurant serving a healthy amount of customers. The staff are friendly, the food & drink are delicious plus great value. Basically, it looks like I have a new local.
C. K.
Great food and absolutely great staff
T. M.
Polite staff that will let you try the guest ales before you go ahead with them. Menu is varied with excellent quality vegetarian options. Always a good atmosphere and the beer is always cold.
R. A.
Lovely staff and lovely place. Steak was cooked perfectly and we both enjoyed the meal. Wide selection of spirits and beers. The only let down was the stench of sewer drains, when we told the staff this they appeared totally unaware of it? I noticed the smell as soon as I walked in the door. And.... it wasn’t quite warm enough inside to take your coat off. I liked The Cosey Dove but it didn’t excite or inspire me to go back for more.
J. M.
Lovely pub, lots of space inside and out. Good food and friendly staff.
K. P.
I was in with a huge party. The staff were very accommodating even though we'd under booked and it was a busy Sunday lunch time. Food was amazing! Would highly recommend!
K. G.
The pub has been revamped to a really high standard and is amazing. Went today and ordered a cheese toastie. What arrived were two slices of bread and grilled cheese with salad. There didn't seem a lot of artistry for £6.50. I read with interest the cheese was locally sourced but did feel as though it was something I could easily have prepared myself. Will go back but perhaps just for a drink.
L. T.
called in for burger deal from groupon(£10) I had 6oz chuck steak burger and my daughter in law chicken fillet, both fabulous and well worth a visit. Special mention to lady who served us who was friendly, helpful and pleasant! we visited 12.20 weds lunchtime. Will definitely return.
K. C.
This is a great place to go for a few afternoon drinks and they accommodate dogs as well which is great. They have a quiz on a Sunday which is fun and not very expensive and they had a recent refurbishment which has given it a boutique feel. Staff are always pleasant as well!
G. B.
Lovely to be back here afyer so long! Great beer, service and atmosphere as usual, plus efficient cleaning discreetly managed
c. g.
Nice food, good prices.
P. K.
An excellent pub, quite spacious, but still cosy. Small outdoor area with occasional barbecues. Decent selection of beer and lots of great homemade bar snacks.
J. G.
Lovely welcome by staff. Chef chatted to us.very nice food and drinks, will be back 🙂
S. W.
Had a fantastic meal here tonight the king prawn starter was delicious large prawns in the lightest tasty batter total perfection. Sirlion steaks spot on and all the trimmings with a choice of sauces. Will definetly return thank you for a first class meal
I. B.
Lovely quaint pub, friendly staff and tasty food. We've ate their a few times and can't fault it at all. Busy on the weekend nights and totally enjoyable
P. R.
This is a great reinvented boozer. Popular with students, and the nearest bar to pub free Fenham. Good scran, canny staff, relaxed atmosphere. I might be mean in not giving 5 stars, ... But it's a great pub!
N. G.
Really lovely pub and atmosphere! Service was a bit slow but the staff were nice! I think Covid was a huge reason as to why x
J. A.
Good lunch, at £11.00/£12.00 a head for the main it is not a very cheap lunch but excellent quality, with a premium placed on sourcing local produce. Fair range of lagers and draft ales and a competitively priced winelist which does not overcharge those who just want wine by the glass. Well designed layout for the restaurant and bar areas, pleaseant, comfortable, airy ambience. Courteous and attentive staff. Obviously a very new venture but from first experience it deserves success. A short walk from the town centre so it is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth it. (Note, a couple of reviews in this list are over a year old, when the building was the scruffy old 'Spital' pub under two different and unsuccessful managers. The Cosy Dove is a completely different venture, is completely refurbished and remodelled and only opened in March 2016 so ignore any review earlier than 2016)
J. T.
Found this place by recommendation when popping into the Bodyshop next to the BBC. I recall an older run down pub here before what a transformation myself and Mrs Turton would never have went here before it was done out she’s quite particular like that bit of a spoilsport you may say, however the newly fitted place was fabulous the food was tremendous and the atmosphere was great, quite a few younger and older faces a great mix. Clearly a Heineken owned outlet but food great drinks fresh cold and the place is clean and tidy. More than happy to flex the credit card here to keep Mrs T full to busting and a smile on her face.
D. H.
Excellent food and beer a stone's throw from the University accomodation on Richardson Road. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, log fire and reasonably priced.
Dog friendly too.
Well worth a visit.
S. M.
Found this gem last year on a football weekend. Revisited yesterday and the atmosphere and the beer was as good as before. The friendly landlord remembered us and hopefully we'll pay another visit next season.

Great local pub. Warm and welcoming staff. Dimly lit during the evenings that encourage a cozy atmosphere. Quiet background music played throughout the day.
A. H.
Food is great, drinks are great. Good range of spirits, although a little pricey.
