Great traditional bar. It's very Nicely decorated. Can get very busy because it's quite small. The staff are great and friendly.
They have a great line up of real ale. Plus a decent selection of craft beer. Jakehead always on from Wylam. Phenomenal Beer that.
R. S.
Great traditional pub. Excellent Ale and genuine atmosphere
N. D.
A real traditional pub totally unspoiled by so called progress. Excellent range of real ale at a great price.
Update - Dec. 2021.
Went tonight for the first time since the re-opening following "Covid restrictions". Decor has changed but it is basically the same Crown Posada 🙂 apart from VERY big price rises. Pint and a wine £12.00 ☹☹☹☹
Having travelled from Scotland, VERY surprised nobody was wearing face masks when moving around. Given the pandemic this made us feel very concerned. Had one pint and left. I appreciate that it is a unique building with its own problems regarding space, but not enforcing masks when moving around is, quite frankly, negligent. Still a great range of beers.
C. M.
Great pub. Love the atmosphere and the vibe. Really good beer, no nonsense.
D. M.
My favourite pub in Newcastle. Not visited it for 10 years and it never changes. Good beers, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. I'll try not to leave it so long before my next visit

Gorgeous proper victorian pub. Good beer. Deep Purple playing. O yes!
K. B.
A proper pub with proper beer ,not like the plastic ones uptown.
N. H.
What a fantastic little bar. The wood panelled walls and plush seating make for a very atmospheric drinking experience. It like being taken back in time. A good selection of beer from six hand pumps.
G. B.
Coming “home” is made better by people like Aaron (hopefully spelled correctly). Great bars are made better by great people behind the counter. A moment of real service, warmth and humility. Thank you Sir.
R. R. (.
Such a beatiful pub with great service
J. N.
The Crown Posada is a classic old pub. The interior is beautiful and from the golden age of pubs. The pub is small but it's part of the charm. Plus the music is all played on a record player.

Tiny pub on Gray Street in Newcastle but always has a great selection of ales and a fantastic atmosphere. Always busy and you normally end up taking to strangers (new friends) due to the proximity of everyone!

Very historic public house with loads of character, many of the old achitectural features still there. Very small narrow room, like a corridor. Friendly atmosphere and good service while I was there.

A unique place to enjoy an excellent beer. Time warp interior, well preserved. Lovely snug bar and wonderful wooden panelling. Friendly bar staff and ever-changing run of real ales. The pub 'jukebox' is a mid 1950s Dynatron record player perched at the end of the bar and in continual use.

Fantastic pub on the quayside steep in history. Great selection of ales. Narrow shape and limited seats so can get a bit cosy when busy.
I. T.
A must visit pub. 6 or 7 fabulous real ales.
D. S.
One of the best traditional pubs in the region. Tastefully redecorated.
J. M.

S. W.
Great pub, lovely atmosphere.
J. D.
100% authentic no-bollox old fashioned pub
B. L.
Like stepping back in time, a really enjoyable experience
M. C.
I've been here many times in recent years. The beer selection is consistently good focusing on local microbreweries for the main part.
Prices are very reasonable for such good quality beer. This is a more traditional pub that keeps pace with modern trends by selecting the best beer options out of the extensive selection that is available.
This place is small so you aren't guaranteed a seat but it's well worth visiting for beer enthusiasts as well as anyone who is interested in exploring great pubs with an amiable atmosphere.
S. R.
Nice little pub. Great selection of beer
S. h.
Friendly staff and pub nice atmosphere
J. S.
Best pub in town, bar none. Lovely traditional feel, great beers and even better when the gramophone is on.
P. S.
Top boozer, great selection of beers and lagers.
I. H.
Friendly, good choice of drinks.....
S. J.
As ever was cracking, recommend the crown posada lager, the Budvar went down well also
A. 5.
One of towns best boozes. Super cozy with great beer and a great atmosphere. Check out the Wylam Jakehead.
J. S.
Always a pleasure, proper traditional pub with top selection of beer, cider & real ale. Staff and locals really friendly. Absolute must visit if you are in Newcastle! Original stained glass windows if this takes your fancy.
D. S.
Great for catching up with friends and family as the noise level is pretty low in there but great atmosphere all the same. Bar staff are great if you like your ale... Slightly condescending if you just fancy a pint of something plain and ordinary, but hey, ale is their thing so don't be surprised (or care)
T. R.
Popped in here on a Friday night, it was busy which gave it a nice atmosphere and was served straight away. The interior was great (had to check out the pub's history the next day which is equally as interesting) and a good selection of beverages was available. Recommended to all.
A. k.
Ace. Every time. One of my favourite bars anywhere, hands down.
P. B.
One of the oldest pubs in Newcastle and you can tell; the decor is beautifully old-fashioned. The range of beers and ales is great and the staff are lovely. Only downside is it's incredibly tiny and usually packed to the brim. If you're visiting Newcastle and fancy a pint then you have to check it out - but I tend not to go now as it's a pain if you're with a group.
G. D.
Proper pub.a must visit when in Newcastle.
A. R.
Have been here before and it's just a terrific bar with plenty of real ales and beautiful decor. The chap behind the bar was very helpful and full of knowledge about the beers and the pub. A great time. If you like real ale then a visit is a must.
J. R.
There are several traditional pubs in Newcastle that many consider to be the best. This is one of them. Renowned as a cracking real ale joint it doesn't pretend to be cool or trendy. Many will consider it something of a dive too. I can see that. However, whilst I only visit if some of my friends are real ale enthusiasts and we're local, for genuine drinkers after a good pint then this might be the pub for you.
A. W.
Proper pub, with proper beer, and proper bar staff.
S. A.
Good beer, staff and very nostalgic music.
Not sure if my husband was impressed or horrified that l knew so many of the lyrics.
I always feel very comfortable in this pub. Thoroughly recommend it. 👍
P. S.
A unique pub, with its own atmosphere. Good for ale drinkers, as they have a very good selection on offer. Downside is doesn't take many to make it a little crowded.
S. H.
Love it here. Did i say i love stained glass. Good selection of ales and a good mix of people.
C. D.
One of best pubs in Newcastle-upon-Tyne! No jukebox (music provided by an old style vinyl playing record player). Wonderful beer! Canny staff and clientele. Stained glass window.
J. B.
Great old place for a real ale - they had nine to choose from when I visited.
Great atmosphere with friendly and very attentive staff that know their ales.
I was told its one of the oldest pubs in newcastle but I cannot verify this. It is definately worth a visit if you like real ales and a warm welcoming atmosphere.
The seating, although having a classically old look is very comfortable too.
S. S.
Newcastle's oldest pub. A pub unlike any other. A great choice of ales on tap. The perfect place to grab a drink after a walk along the quayside. I really can't recommend this place enough for fans of a good old fashioned proper pub!
Y. R.
Small quaint back street style boozer but located on Side in amongst the trendy bars and restaurants. Rovers Return kind of set up and genre, but a good selection of beers at not too bad prices. Worth knowing about, good to add in to a circuit or crawl
J. M.
One of the finest drinking pubs in Newcastle, beautiful interior, well kept beer, well pulled pints and Always minimum of 4 draft ales and 2 keg ales available plus many bottles. Staff are excellent.
J. G.
A genuine gem. A real standing Victorian pub, unphased by the changing times, you can feel the air as you walk in, it feels like 1889 and you can imagine everyone has just walked in of the yards and docks and people are merry at the sight of a good drink and a catch up with their pals.
The place looks a little intimidating as you walk in due to the low light and narrow bar, but the folks here are very nice and there's a sneaky little smoking area out the back. Worth a visit, as it's captured a moment in Newcastle's prime for us all to sample today.
J. T.
Came across this purely by accident, very friendly staff, we will defiantly be back
W. E.
A pub that us full of character, excellent beer and wonderful hosts. Where else can you find an ancient record player on the bar playing vinyl? Simply brilliant!
G. N.
Favourite pub in Newcastle. Oldest pub in Newcastle too. Good selection of ales. Always have an old gramophone playing in the background. Very friendly staff. Can be busy at weekend (it's quite small) but I love it.
K. S.
Really nice place, highly recommend
D. B.
Good old fashioned pub in the heart of Newcastle. Only had a glass of coke and 2 lime and soda's. (Only £4.50). Not much room as there is a little area as you go in and a long room with the toilets at the end of it. Really liked the old fashioned ceiling and the mirrors on the walls. ( would hate to have cleaned them )
I. W.
This is a fabulous classic pub. Walk in to dark wood, stained glass, massive cornicing and some serious beer. There's booths down the end past the bar. A record player (you know, vinyl discs with two sides) controlled by the barman supplies background music - classic rock when I was in, could have been "Traffic" iirc. Unique and precious!
W. B.
An unassuming pub you can easily walk past due to the door being the frontage onto the road. Deceptively large inside and goes back some way. It has been modernised but keeps its historical features which adds to its character.
D. J.
It only goes to show
If it ain't broke don't fix it
D. D.
Very convivial, low level lighting, atmospheric Victorian pub chock-full of original features. Older crowd, can be refreshingly quiet in the dsy
J. H.
Absolutely love this little gem of a pub. So comfy, lovely warm welcome, brilliant ales and vinyl playing on the antique record player. Lifts my heart every time I visit.
R. R.
On a overnight stay in the Toon & staying in the budget Tune Hotel next door, l thought l would call in for a drink or two.
I found inside, a very traditional pub, old time jazz music being played, good selection of beers, friendly staff & an interesting range of customers!!!
What more do you need!!!
S. M.
An iconic narrow pub with fantastic stain glass windows . Conversations abound in the main bar area and the large 19th century vestibule. Great local ale selection and various fruit flavoured gins are available . Half way between city and the quayside it's a popular stopping off venue.
R. W.
Excellent little place. The narrow interior, complete with a snug, the lively punters and the good selection of beers make this a Newcastle classic. It is a proper old boozer and one not to be missed when in The Toon. You'll end up sitting on someone's lap, but that's all part of the charm.
S. H.
Asking for local knowledge on where I should go to sample a traditional non-theme pub, advised to go try out the Crown Posada - had an early doors beer on a Wednesday evening and was not let down. Good choice of real ales, unspoilt decor and the music was a pile of old LP's on a small record player.
A. O.
Love this old pub and the music is fab, original records playing on a proper record player.
J. W.
One of the best pubs in Newcastle!!
J. W.
This place has been a shining light to lovers of craft ales on the Quay side for a great many years. A little bit of quality on what can be a crazy Quayside. It's true it's small but so are many good things.
The Allendale Pale is always good here but do try some of the other local ales too.
C. B.
Cosy pub with wood panelling interior. Music is not too loud so you can have a good chit chat with friends. Bar service is fast and prices are reasonable. Toilets are clean.
D. A.
Nice cool dimly lit but cool and nice
S.
One of Newcastle's oldest pubs. Always a good atmosphere here with a great selection of beers & friendly staff. If you do manage to get a seat ... bonus!
O. H.
Real gem of a pub, very narrow and small. Good choice of real ales, bit like stepping back 40 years
The stained glass window is stunning and has mostly original period features
Been drinking in here off and on for over 30 years
I. T.
Great pub located near the quayside, good range of real ales (which suits me 😁) and a good range of other drinks for the other half. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Newcastle
D. S.
Fabulous pub. Bar staff have good knowledge of the ales. Lovely cosy front bar area. Always a busy nice atmosphere.
L. R.
The landmark destination of Newcastle pubs. The music is never too loud so conversation friendly. Also one of the last working long bars which were once a common pub format in the area.
D. B.
Great pint lovely staff
M. H.
Beautiful old pub serving a fantastic selection of real ales. The locals all flock here which is a good sign. The record player on the bar is a great touch too
M. C.
Food was good but was just a bit too much olive oil in my pasta dishes... It tasted very good though. The atmosphere is very historic. LOVELY REALLY. The pizza was fabulous.
R. S.
Probably the best cask ale in Newcastle if not the whole north East. Classic heritage pub with fine stained glass windows. Excellent service from knowledgeable enthusiastic staff.
M. G.
Lovely atmospheric pub. Good selection of draught beers and music being played on a record player. Really enjoyable evening there.
M. H.
There's nowhere like this I've found. It's basically a corridor with a bar in it. Can't beat it for mulling over life with a very good beer, listening to the gramophone and gentle chatter. Fabulously relaxing.
A. B.
Average to good sele tion of beer, well worth a visit. Nice older style decor,l. The place is tiny, so expect to get friendly with a stranger.
R. M.
Top place. Oasis of peace in the bedlam that is Newcastle on a Friday night. Great beers, good service, and friendly natives. Worth seeking out.
P. H.
Good craic here on match days
S. H.
Proper nice old boozer. Lots of local ales on tap and a record player on the end of the bar. We were in on New Year's Eve and there was a spontaneous singalong to some of the old tunes playing!
J. P.
Cosy heritage Victorian pub with good selection of beers that change often. Music is not too loud and no TVs. I always try to visit when in Newcastle.
K. F.
Great bar with a great atmosphere. There's always a good selection of ales. Always popular, it might be hard to get a seat when you visit
J. G.
Great pub, that sells great beer! This pub has a quirky character with it's narrow layout and unassuming front. A great first pub as you start your crawl along the Quayside
A. M.
This is a must visit for pub lovers, a really old pub with authentic decor. A long thin bar with cracking beers on offer. Well worth a walk down Dene Street.
M. G.
Excellent traditional pub. Original and historic interior, friendly staff playing LP'S oh and of course a great choice of beer!
P. H.
Good old fashioned boozer, complete with a snug and a record player. This bar has a good selection of LP's, makes a change from the modern day CD's. Also a good selection of real ales, a good day could be spent here drinking.
N. P.
Great wee traditional pub, definetly worth a visit if you are in Newcastle. Quite small though so can get very busy and we were there on a Thursday so I would imagine its busier at weekends.
I. F.
One of the oldest pubs in Newcastle and it is a grade 2 listed building so has loads and loads of character and really quirky. It's like going back in a time machine. Look out for the record player behind the bar
G. R.
Nice gin.....
I. R.
Great pub. Excellent beer and friendly, knowledgeable service. Always make a point of dropping in when I'm up from the smoke.
R. B.
Best boozer in the Toon. Loads of proper beers and plenty locals. Grown up crowd. Music is an old record player on the bar. I lime this pub.
D. M.
Nice pub, friendly service and medium choice of beers. In the end it is just a pub, although with more history than other. Worth a Google search
J. Q.
A great bar. Excellent selection of beers and a proper old pub. Always a favourite
M. A.
Great place. Nice crowd. Old world feel about the place. Been back a few times now. Staff are canny. Go and try the place. Good beer(s) & soak in the atmosphere.
S. A. S.
Historical old fashioned pub with a small but cosy bar. Usually about 5 or 6 real ales on as with the other Fitzgeralds pubs. Manager also knows his product.
J. c.
Fab traditional pub in Newcastle
D. T.
Nice pub, friendly service and medium choice of beers. In the end it is just a pub, although with more history than other. Worth a Google search
P. B.
It's a good old-fashioned pub serving real ale in a city centre seemingly devoid of drinking establishments where you can a decent pint of hand-pulled beer.
S. B.
Great beer and staff
p. m.
Real old pub. Wood panelling, interesting period features. Good staff and a friendly atmosphere. Great vibe.
K. P.
Amazing and beautiful pub. Great atmosphere and beers.
R. C.
Beautiful old pub with great beer selection.
Small place and more often than not extremely busy. Popular for a reason.
M. P.
Small quirky pub love the fact they don't allow stag or hen parties, very nice ales and cask beers good selection
A. S.
Lovely historic pub, brilliantly kept beer. We went during the day so it wasn't busy
Have been in the evening when it was rammed.
C. O.
So heritage you wouldn't bat an eyelid if somebody walked in wearing a corset and a crinoline. Yet bang up to date with excellent beers, beautiful staff and punters
T. J.
Great pub near the Quayside, old fashioned bar with a great selection of craft beers, old record player on the bar providing the 60s music, love it.
R.
Always love a drink in here. It can rammed due to its small size but it's such a lovely pub
S. C.
It can be a little difficult to get in on a busy day but it is so worth the effort. One of the finest pubs in Newcastle and a definite place to go if you are only in the area for a short stay.
D. B.
Incredible interior and pub with a back story. Such pubs are few and far between here. Friendly staff and good range of local ales.
D. W.
Wonderful old fashioned pub with old fashioned music played on an old record player. Good beer, good atmosphere. Highly recommended.
D. C.
Wonderful pub. Interior fantastic and what a proper pub should be representing it's heratige. Beer range fantastic and well kept
T. G.
Nice beer, attentive staff and good music in a lovely decor with stained glass windows. One of the oldest pubs in Newcastle
T. R.
Lovely quiet old pub minutes from the quayside. Very atmospheric with a great beer selection. Limited seating, often standing room only.
J. D.
Beautiful old real ale pub. Great ambience and company although weird to hear them call last orders.
b. m.
Lovely beer like having a pint waiting in a 1960,s tavern , only in colour not black and white. Real nice and cosy.
t. t.
Always been a great place
J. H.
This pub hasn't changed for decades it has lots of character the landlord has an old record player on the end of the bar & plays old records . It's next to the vermont hotel in Newcastle.
B. L.
Really nice little pub with a good selection of beer.
O. M. J.
Lots of space inside, despite the narrowness of the bar area. Good service and decent beer at reasonable prices. The building itself is rather interesting.
M. G.
A wonderful little pub, every town should have one, on this visit there was a brewery take over with a belting selection of ales, quick service considering it was packed.
R. C.
Proper boozer with the most random music.
Well kept beer and a decent bottle/can selection should keep most punters happy.
