Reviews of Killingworth Arms
B. J.
Upon arrival we received a nice friendly welcome from the new owners, Michelle and Paul, and were shown to a table and given menus.
The menus had a good selection to choose from and we chose the beef roast from the lunchtime specials. This proved to be a good choice since our food arrived, reasonably quickly, and beautifully presented. A bowl of fresh vegetables and roast potatoes followed with a gravy boat of extra gravy.
The owner was very attentive, checking that we had everything that we needed and that our food was satisfactory.
We will definitely be going back to sample the rest of the menu.

5 of us Went for a meal last Thursday teatime. All food was absolutely beautiful. Men has Bedrock steak which was gorgeous, I had fish n chips chips are hand cut not frozen chips and the fish also 5* my daughter has chicken strips and shredded salad served on a flat bread she said it was delicious and grandson had gammon which again was top class. Credit to the new owners he is a top class chef and his partner is lovely, so friendly what a village pub should be. Will soon be back. 5* across the board.
S. G.
Very friendly staff and a warm welcome. Showed to our table. We ordered drinks and a small x large Fish n Chips. They were fantastic with home made chips x mushy peas. 10 out of 10 and the plus side no signs of access grease. The best I have tasted in a while.

Second time visiting as I couldn't resist after going for dinner a few weeks after the reopening. The food is superb, tasty and locally sourced and incredibly well priced. I brought my young fussy kids this time and for the first time ever, cleared their plates of everything! They both enjoyed it so much that they asked to go back for dinner tomorrow so, as we're here visiting, we absolutely will be.
15/10 according to my Girls.
see you again in a couple of months!
S. W.
It has just been reopened with new management. They really make you feel welcome. A good array of drinks on offer and Real Ale. Would definitely recommend as an alternative to your usual plastic pubs. Good food on offer as well.
s. r.
Went for steak night on Thursday. 2 steaks with chips mushrooms tomatoes. Best steak I've eaten for a long time. Chef knew his stuff & explained steak options . Only slight criticism did not come with sauce but when we asked for it sauce was made. New management & staff at pub are great. Place looks lot cleaner , lighter & fresher.
D. W.
Good carvery. Only £5
Update: I heard there's new owners. No carvery on weekdays and it's more expensive.
M.
Lovely attentive staff and beautifully cooked food. Have been quite a lot this last few months and the standards are consistently high. Highly recommend
R. G.

Very good lunch with a good choice. Hot and tasty. Excellent chef. Will be going again.
B. R.
Fab fish and chip simply the best food fab service so good lovely atmosphere will be back xx
L. R.
First night was brilliant that's why we went back & we were a tad underwhelmed this time. The portion of some of the meals was small (unlike the previous night). Staff are lovely though & we will visit here again. Worth a wee try if you like homemade food.
D. D.
Me and my husband went for a carvery lunch today. The food was absolutely beautiful. The manager, the chef and all the staff were all very professional and very polite. Made you feel very welcome.
A. D.
Very friendly staff service was excellent and our meal was very enjoyable compliments to the chef
B. M.
Great local pub and nice food with kids play area. Lovely staff and good quality food cooked from scratch. Highly recommend
m. l.
Had great lunch there yesterday. Tried the mince & dumplings and the chicken and leek pie. Both were of a very high quality and quantity. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back soon.
L. A.
Went for Sunday lunch phoned 5 days in advance to book in bar ended up in the conservatory which doesn't have much room dinner not as good as it has been Yorkshire's weren't home made and food put on cold plates staff need to smile a bit more and that includes the lady owner although the lad carving the meat was chatty and so helpful won't be back in a hurry think thayve got to complacent.
N. L.
Lovely pub, great food. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back sometime soon
j. e.
Have to say first time there for Sunday carvery.
Absolutely amazing, very fresh and the meats to die for.
S. R.
Great Sunday lunch. Food was spot on. Staff very welcoming and helpful.
E. W.
Had the carvery. Well worth the money. You get a choice of 2 meats, home made Yorkshire, sausages and then you can help yourself to the veg. A good variety of vegetables as well as potatoes choices roasties, new potatoes and mash.
They have a great choice of desserts I had the toffee crunch pie with cream and it was absolutely beautiful. 2 courses £11.95. The staff are lovely, It gets really busy so it's best to book a table in advance or if you don't mind waiting for a table. Good place to eat.
K. M.
From the offset nothing was to much trouble. Phoned last minute asking if had a table for 5 and if dogs were allowed, told table was reserved for us and dogs were welcome. Staff made you feel like they had known you for years, very chatty and friendly, no matter what we asked for nothing was to much trouble. Food and drinks were lovely. After lunch children played in park (part of pub/beer garden). Will definitely be back. Definitely recommend.
K. B.
Lovely pub with good seating area outside, food was really nice...the carvery and mince and dumplings looked very good!
J. M.
Turned up at about 2.30 with out a booking, but was able to get a table with out any problems.
Over all our lunch was ok we had to wait for fresh vegetables and gravy being brought out to the carvery as they had ran out and not restocked, we didn't wait too long and on the whole our lunch was nice, the service left a bit to be desired, not to friendly or welcoming, the conservatory where we were seated was cramped for space and very basic.
We probably wouldn't choose to return just not the place for us.
S.
Positive food was great value lots of it
Tea & coffee not very good for price
M. T.
Mince and dumplings was looking very and served very hot on a cold day. Really nice staff too.
K.
Friendly staff, fresh modern decor, outdoor seating out front and rear. Great food!
J. B.
Very clean. Friendly staff. Food looked very good but we weren't dining.
D. S.

c. h.
Excellent food, service, location and staff
a. h.
Lovely friendly staff and the food was beautiful. Recommend the steak.
J. E.
First time at The Killingworth Arms we all had the Homemade British Beef Burger .. It was the best burger we've had in a while!! Simple homemade burger (at least a 1/4lb) bacon which was ham from the carvery, cheese and salad on a generous bun, served up with homemade, handmade chips! (A rarity!) .. We will definitely be back! Highly recommended 🙂
v. w.
Very nice place - clean, staff really welcoming and food lovely
A. B.
Went there today with my mam & sister, we had a lovely carvery, the beef was delicious! The staff on shift were very welcoming, especially the lady on the carvery, very friendly. Thank you we will be back 🥰
j. c.
We had a lovely lunch here today, staff worked extremely hard to ensure the food n carvery was hot and plentiful. Will definitely return
J. W.
Reopened under new management. Great food and nice to see smaller portion sizes.
A. R.
Quaint pub, decent carvery, and very pleasant staff. Priced incredibly reasonable. Worth sticking your head in if you're passing.
D. M.
Have been going here for a few years now, still can't fault the food, carvery, specials board, menu, all good. 14/06/2022 The pub has just recently reopened after being closed for a while. New management, new cook, no carvery for the time being just the meals from the menu.
C. C. M.
Fabulous food and service as usual. Always a pleasure to come here, lovely staff, served by Diane and she was great 👍
O. S.
Lovely bar, really friendly staff. The food here is absolutely beautiful.
B. f.
Had a day off work, so took my son back here for another chilled out day. Two members off staff only. Great service from them both. Thanks very much. Food was great.
J. C.
Fabulous meal, the steak pie is to die for
S. P.
Great carvery, very impressed with the selection of vegetables and meat. More choice that your average carvery.
We were made to feel very welcome and the team couldn't do enough to accommodate us and our baby who was determined to rub mash on the walls.
J. R.
1st visit for Sunday Carvery , we were given a warm welcome staff are lovely. We had pork and beef , lots of fresh veg to choose from massive yorkshire puds and tasty gravy. Well we cleared our plates . Definitely will be back well deserved 5 🌟
J. S.
We had some lovely food here on Sunday. It was a buffet with generous portions of meat. We should have booked though as we had a party of 8, and so had to wait an hour to get a table. It was very busy. Although it was a little pricey for drinks. 2 cokes and a lemonade came to £7. Our main meal I think was about £12.
L. O.
Just there to pickup some fish and chips for lunch delicious
d. v.
excellent food good all round service .
S. W.
Usually friendly with very nice food but we recently went on a Sunday and found that although there was a vegetarian option, (which I didn't like the sound of), the only other choice was a carvery. This would have been fair enough but the carvery was quite expensive and I had to pay the same price for a meat free carvery, which I have never known to be the case anywhere else.
M. A.
Ate here once at lunch time on a Sunday & also attended a christening here.
It’s very small & is busy most of the time. Definitely need to book for Sunday lunch.
All our family enjoyed their food. It’s a little cramped but other than that it was okay.
Xmas time it has the best lights this side of the Tyne!
M. H.
Went for Sunday lunch. Fab meal. Meat tender and plentiful. The veg was varied, lovely gravy and huge yorkshire pudding. Would suggest booking as they change sittings on the hour and it can get very busy. One of the best I've had locally for quite some time.
K. R.
Very nice food and good service.
B. T.
Parking is awkward in the dark, and disabled accessibility is limited. Excellent food, very friendly staff, good selection of beer.
D. T. B.
Lovely food regardless if picked from the carvery or ordered from the menu. Pre-corvid the patio sitting area can feel a little too warm and crowed. Friendly and helpful staff too
M. T.
Great food, had the carvery in the past which is one of the best around, today we tried the mixed grill and the amount of meat for your money is unbelievable! Steak, lambchop, Porkchop, Gammon and Sausage plus peas, egg, mushrooms and a huge portion of proper chips! Great beer and service to top it off! 🤓👍
D. “. L.
Great little pub that does a carvery of Jo little repute.
Can be a little on the pricey side on the likes of Saturday but you get such a selection/quantity of food out of the deal that it makes a good weekend treat so in the end, is worth it.
Aside from that, I wholeheartedly recommend.
R. M.
I'd heard great recommendations but was very disappointed with the food. It was Sunday so we had the carvery. Peas and sweetcorn dried and tasteless, leeks should have had the dry tough layer removed. Roast tatties undercooked and boiled ones tasteless. Gammon not bad and tasty but beef uncutable, is that a word? With lots of gristle.
My daughter enjoyed the mashed potatoes and mashed Swede. The drinks were delicious and the the play area was great for the grandkids. Sadly I don't think we'll be back.
C. N.
Nice old pub with friendly staff lovely conservatory and good food
M. G.
Fantastic Sunday lunch
Be back soon
P. L.
Went for the Sunday carvery food was lovely atmosphere was good too staff were very helpful
A. G.
Killingworth arms has a great carvery on the weekend. There's not a lot of space and I recommend pre booking your table otherwise it could take a while. The staff are super friendly and everyone is really welcoming. Would totally recommend!
C. C.
Carvery top notch as usual - one surprise was the lack of waiting time - walked in at 1 o'clock and got a table, saying that the longest we've had to wait was 20 min's. - Beef was excellent.
S. M.
Just popped in after a beach walk. We all know sea air makes ya hungry 😊Had the carvery. The pork n beef were super sexy. Wow! Gone home a happy man. Now off to a fancy dress!
g. c.
Lovely village pub staff very friendly nothing a bother lovely food and carvery would highly recommend Gloria
V. B.
Staff very pleasant.Carvery was very hot with plenty of veg served to the table for everyone. Highly recommend.
A. L.
Really excellent food. Was very busy and cramped due to so many people but apart from the queue for the carvery it was excellent. Definitely book a table if you want to eat here.
m. c.

This is probably the best carvery around and they do turnip all the time! Homemade food at good prices
S. L.
Lovely place to get a roast, pleanty of different veg to pick from so it's a brilliant place to bring my 1 year old. They have a bouncy castle on Sundays too!

D. E. (.

Highly recommended for families, but with a nice bar as well-for a quiet drink.
Also there is a 'button' happy hour!
T. B.
Always good carvery, nice friendly staff too, they will help to accomodate as best as possible! Would highly recommend.
M. W.
Meal was beautiful proper cabbage no leeks mixed in like they do in shire horse as it puts you off whole meal plus they have turnip and mash tatties will definitely go again
E. W.
Service was so friendly and welcoming, and the food was amazing at a very reasonable price. Would highly recommend this place. Will definitely be visiting this place again.
P. C.
Lovely food. I make a really nice roast myself so won't go for a roast dinner normally. The Killy arms is the exception. Outstanding.

Me, my partner and our children love this place. Dog and child friendly and carverys are by far the best we have ever had.
I. B.
Great food & lovely, friendly staff. Only downside is that the kids play park is a bit tired and could do with updating
N. P.
Called in for Sunday lunch- not the cheapest in the area but an accolade from my hubby that "It's the best Sunday lunch he has had for a very long time" can't be bad as he is a food connoisseur!!
E. W.
