Reviews of Okana

First visit to Okana. Picked a warm sunny afternoon so sat outside. Started with a Mojito then Okamas signature candy store, finished with the best cosmopolitan I have had, along with very good Nachos with salsa, guacamole, sour cream which we throughly enjoyed. Okamas staff are very friendly and attentive. Prices vary we paid £10 for 2 cocktails on the classic list although prices vary so check the menu., also has a hood range of tapas which we intend to try next time we come.
This is a good place to come and watch the word go by while enjoying very good cocktails.

I love going to Okana. There was a gidi affair for bank holiday I attended and it was turnt up. Lots of dancing and drinking and loads of fun with my mates, I'm definitely looking forward to going back to Okana sometime in the future.

Fantastic food and cocktail bar, close to the train station. Great for a refined lively night. The wait staff are very attentive too.

Drinks were lovely but it was so busy that it took a while for us to be served.
We booked a table here for a double date with my boyfriend and our friends, I think we had the table for either an hour or two.
Unfortunately the place was so packed that it took a while for our order to be taken and then took even longer to get our drinks. This meant we were only able to order one round before we had to leave.
The cocktails were really tasty, almost like pop so they can be dangerous to drink if you don't want to get drunk 🤪😂
D. S.
Nice, helpful staff. Was lovely sitting outside, as the weather was nice and warm. We ordered food and it was very nice. After ordering we were informed a few dishes were unavailable, but we easily selected alternatives. It took a while to come, but was well worth the wait. Very good quality and very tasty 😋 Tha Calamari was particularly good 👍

Great place to hold a private party. Really decadent venue with great staff. Food they laid on was stellar. Drinks a bit pricey but it is smack back in the centre of town.
D. B.
Pleasant outdoor space. Service very slow but the sun was shining so we were happy to wait. Red wine was corked which was disappointing and replacement offer not much better.
J. D.
Staff inattentive, drink was served in dirty glass, but changed to new by member of staff. Lovely cocktails, but food prices not worth the portion or taste. Nice seating area with heaters.
J. P.
Great place to share a beer with friends and after to enjoy a delicious plate.
D. S.
Nice pub. Attentive staff. If a lot of pizzas get ordered it can take a while to come, but they're good. They have gluten free pizza bases and pasta available and a selection of gluten free beers. Nice section of spirits too.

Me and some friends spent a long weekend in Newcastle and we visited Okana couple times over the weekend and it's such a chill place, some of our drinks the first night we're delayed and we were given a free shot on the house which was a very nice gesture, and the 2nd visit a staff member was able to get us a table outside which I appreciated a lot and made the night a whole lot better, definitely recommend
D. J.
The place is great and the library is good for a quiet drink .
j. z.
Supercool atmosphere, nice tunes and good drinks at sound prices 🤙
D. W.
Good drinks selection.
Good atmosphere.
Good music. 👍🏻👍🏻
B. B.
Looks nice inside. Cocktail was too sweet. Track and Trace is encouraged which is a bonus but their information is just out on a table with no-one looking after it which is a breach of privacy as anyone could have access to personal information. Sorry, but I didn't fill it in properly, just pretended to as I wasn't comfortable with this.
Shame, as I'm sticking rigidly to Track and Trace otherwise.

Not a bad spot, hectic main room so had some amazing 2 for £10 cocktails in the other room. Had a good chat with the bar man (not sure on his name) about the building itself, the drink etcs. Great bar man plenty of knowledge!
D. T.
Was lovely to sit outside and enjoy drinks but staff not always wearing face masks and got orders wrong several times
S. a. E. d.
Nice find in the way to the O2 from the station. Very reasonable priced and good not bad. There are a selection of rooms to venture in to. The stair case is gorgeous. The bar to the left as you come in is a bit sticky glued but i guess it gets pretty rammed in the evening. The room to the right at the front of the building is full of tables to sit in. There is a bright bar at the back of the building.
V. W.
We're here now and what a lovely man Ryan is. Spot on lad. Looked after us when some trouble happened. Very recommended in here. The staff are LOVELY especially RYAN thanks guys
D. J. M.
Love the place. I mistakenly mentioned Witherspoons in my last post I'd like to correct that Now. The bar is a delight to sit around, friendly Staff, clean efficient. Good punters round the bar I spotted a least a couple of sage's.. And a few friendly faces. Great Newcastle drinking house... Also noticed fine menu (very decent,) However I didn't dine there, but will certainly sample the fare (which being served around me) looked Tip Top.... I'll certainly return a nd I definitely recommend ®

We attended the Union rooms as we was sold a wristband that would permit us to get certain offers, the union rooms didnt offer this even though we had mentioned we had it. The service was very slow even though it was a Friday early afternoon (around 2pm). Food was okay nothing extraordinary same as the service we was provided. Considering we was a hen party we would of expected drinks being offered and engaging us in conversation to build the tip for the server however we didnt get that. Would rate 4/5.
M. K.
I was there with the kids for lunch, food and service was great and the staff were very nice too
M. C.
The best Wetherspoons I know of. Different rooms have different atmosphere. A great place to meet for young and old. I've never not got a seat. Are the bouncers necessary? They never seem to do anything.
L. H.
One of the better wetherspoons with plenty of space and seating. Very reasonably priced. An excellent bar for starting the night or for half way through. Great atmosphere. The building itself is worth a visit too due to the sheer size of it. Imagine a victorian style house but big and with cheap beer!
t. m.
We were down from Scotland for a few days. Excellent all day breakfast. The staff behind the bar make the best Bloody Mary, ever. Friendly and efficient service. Cheers guys. Thanks.
J. C.
Had a presentation night last night with my work St Martin's care. The staff was very pleasent and couldn't do enough for you. And the food was beautiful and was lovely and hot, considering they had the room full.
G. Z.
Near train station. Plenty of nice beers and drinks. Reasonable prices. The food was just good. There is plenty of space inside. Also there is a smoking area with tables outside. Worth it a visit or more specially when you're waiting for your train or not.
I. F.
I've been coming to this pub for the last 20 years or so and It's recently been purchased by Weatherspoons so the prices are pretty low. The building has lots of character, was built back in 1877 and has five levels. It was originally a gentelmens club which ran for over 100 years. It gets pretty busy here but there is always plenty of staff so you won't wait long to get served
L.
Quiet and friendly, Chicken Katsu Curry was immense. Not sure if it was due to a weekday, time or end of the month but it was just nice to sit down after trecking 30 minutes finding the place with broken google maps but we found it in the end.
P. C.
Located in the heart of Newcastle 2 minutes walking from Central Station. Nice and cosy place to have a cheap drink. A variety of beers and plenty of rooms to choose from both downstairs and upstairs. Really busy on Fridays but usually during the week it's just fine.
M. H.
Called in for lunch 🍴 Mrs had scampi and Chips which looked lovely Mrs enjoyed the meal. Large Mixed Grill was ok Onion rings were forgotten, peas a little on the cool side, all meats were cooked perfectly - to my taste anyway - the bar staff were friendly and helpful. Would call again at this pub reasonably priced food menu and drinks as you would expect from a Wetherspoon pub. Called for breakfast the following morning again all staff polite and helpful the breakfast was very good. Will go again to this pub when in Newcastle.
B. B.
Excellent!! We’ve not been back in since it was changed (used to be Wetherspoons), but wow am I glad I visited! The house wine is MUCH nicer (and only £4 for a large merlot). The food is delicious, and really affordable. They actually give you enough sauce, the chipotle mayo has a good heat to it, everything is perfectly seasoned, even the ketchup is delicious. We’ll definitely be back. You should totally try it (psst, get the chicken fingers!)
S. B.
Quite a vast (at least layout wise) pub near to Newcastle station. Standard prices to other bars in area. Friendly staff. Also do food (although I didn't eat). Worth a visit
S. P.
Absolutely fantastic bar/restaurant. I was in town on business for 3 days and found this place on the 2nd night. Food is great and the bar staff are brilliant. Phil the manager couldn't do enough to ensure we had a good night.
C. D.
Good sized Wetherspoons with a variety of room styles from light and airy to chilled out library. Has two bar areas downstairs and a further one upstairs. Handy location, cheap food n drink.
L.
Not my favourite branch of Wetherspoon branded pubs. The food isn't very good, and the last few times I've drank here the glasses have been dirty. It's very close to the train station so it's OK in a pinch, but there are better branches IMO.
s. m.
Average cheap and cheerful pub. Decent food and the drinks are cheaper than in other more trendy bars in Newcastle. They don't ever play any music in the pub, but it still has a nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly.
B. W.
Some of the really cheap beer has gone since the union Rooms was operated by Wetherspoons but even so this is still a cracking drinking Hall add brilliant prices in the middle of the town with great food. And that Rob around the banisters really does scratch your bum when you tried to slide down them!!
a. G.
Sharing platter was absolutely delicious, it's a must try. Mojito was perfect
O. H.
Interesting building spread over 2 floors , built in the style of a French chateaux.
Used to be a private gentlemans club before being converted into a pub.
Wide range od lagers beers and some real ales all reasonably priced.
Serves a varied range of meals
Can get a little noisy when busy due to the high ceilings
G. W.
Good bar with very good selection of beers and cocktails with good early deals. Definitely worth a visit, staff quick and helpfull
P. P.
Grand period building with an impressive staircase. Unfortunately the bar areas are not as fitting of the building compared to similar Wetherspoon's. Somewhat lack lustre and can see why the company is looking to sell the venue.
J. S.
Used to be able to talk in the back bar but music is too loud now. Guest beer pumps all had cider on the last time I was in there. I must be getting too grumpy to tolerate loud bars.
B. T.
Lovely place to eat food was great quality was a lovely change from going to a whetherspoons the staff were lovely especially the people who worked behind the bar was served very efficiently and they were all very well mannered. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
S. J.
This is one of the largest pub in Newcastle with 3 bars over 2 floors. Also it is a historic and listed building, it used to be a gentleman club. The building it self is worth a vist, and you have weatherspoons prices. Beer kept in good condition.
V. B.
Much improved under new ownership, a lot cleaner and no sticky floors! Fair selection of drinks and food. We had a problem with one meal, quickly replaced and cost refunded, staff very quick to react.
N. W.
This is not a Wetherspoons even though it has the Wetherspoons name above the door. I thought it was until I paid for the drinks and found they were more than a Wetherspoons price and not as good. Place felt a bit of a dump.
C. W.
Good food and reasonably priced. Drinks expensive after happy hour. Football was shown but no commentary. Waitress was extremely helpful.
C. 2.
Great breakfast. Several bar areas, fantastic curry night on a Thursday. Would benefit from air conditioning as can get very hot indeed. Very friendly staff
D. C.
Great bar. I love the out door seating area
A. T.
Now an 'Otherspoons' following it's recent sale. Standards seem to have slipped, less draft and prices have gone up. The impressive interior is looking increasingly shabby and feels a bit 'sticky'
A. K.
Nice & polite Staff easy to get served. And overall nice & lively place to drink, eat & chat with your friends & the girl Shannon who works behind the bar is absolutely Gorgeous.
C. Y.
Great pizzas and waiters/waitresses were all lovely. Couldn't have been more helpful given we had a pushchair and it was very busy!
M. J.
Lovely outdoor area friendly staff canny pint defo be back one ov the best beer gardens in toon
I. Y.
First time in for a long time and they've really improved from the last time, probably won't leave it so long for our next visit, place was spotless clean and tidy nice pint friendly bar staff and a pleasant place to stay, much improved
M. M.
Great location, good service. Reliabe Wetherspoons fare. But the space itself is fantastic. Several different rooms, a large bar, very comfortable seating.
L. S.
Nice little bar to chat and hang out with friends. Staff seemed very nice. Especially a young lass who worked there going out of her way to make sure I was happy.
T. T. s.
great music and volume levels for time of day (wed 2pm) got an all day breakfast with orange juice and a coffee came fast with great service plenty of food compared to the chain the building was once connected to, good quality food, Will come again.
b.
Great selection of food, and fantastic for a cheap night out. Whether it's a quick few with mates, or the start of a crazy stag-do!
H.
Good pub with a good range of drinks, not too expensive. Staff always seem helpful and being so large you never seem to struggle to find somewhere to sit.
B. D. (.
Love it in here, I meet with friends I used to work with, we always enjoy a night out here. Great atmosphere, great staff, what is there not to love about that!!
R. W.
Every time I go to Newcastle I seem to find myself in the Union Rooms at some point. It's the beating heart of The Toon in many ways and it attracts all sorts - from young ladies dressed expecting a heatwave right up to groups of men approaching retirement but still determined to put down 15 pints. The building itself is grand for a 'Spoons but luckily the prices are quite the opposite and should suit even the tightest of budgets. Right near Central Station as well so ideal for your first/last beer of the session.
D. H.
Very nice decor and lovely new outlay but no where near as cheap as it used to be.
Staff whe lovely place spotless would definitely go back with my partner
H.
It's a wetherspoons been in one you've been in them all. Noisey, yet lacking atmosphere, bar staff look like they are sick of their jobs, lets be honest you just come here because it's cheap.
J. R.
Had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast wich was really tasty. And not to expensive. Just was a bit cold inside but in fairness it was -2 outside.
C. C.
Lovely place with friendly staff. Haven't been here since it was a weatherspoons. Much better. Great service and expirence. Will defo go back
P. H.
A very young place to drink. Loud crowded. Great if this is what you want. Not great for a quiet drink. Cheap and cheerful. Fantastic staff.
D. P. (.
Service was great but music was so loud that even shouting to the group I was with barely made you heard
A. B.
nice place but can someone tell me there is a notice board beside the stairs with the prices on and its say foster pint £3.30 but when i went to the bar last night it was £3.50
A. G.
Staff are excellent, food is excellent, beer is excellent the bar was clean, tidy and warm. What more could you need?
J.
Not really a bad spot one member off the bar staff was a real grump compared to the rest it's a huge place n food is not bad you get a big portion of nachos for 1 person
T. A.
Typical weathspoons pub.reasonably priced drinks and food. But I've just found the cheapest pub in Newcastle. Wow. Wouldn't you like to know.
S. R.
Good atmosphere and nice food at good prices. Seems to be a little cheaper for drinks than other local bars.
O. S.
had some cocktails and some food and the whole experience was amazing
D. M.
Typical Wetherspoon pub. Cheap and clean, but table arrangement could be comfier. The building is nice, but can get cold in winter.
A. C.
Got a pint and burger meal. Price reasonable. Burger spoilt by dry bun...old dry.
Only been once but busy.
M. 6.
Went here to meet the West ham away crowd. Had a couple of drinks here. Nice place with some great food options too.
S. J.
Great pub in a brilliant location, you will be hard pressed to find a more unique pub anyway, good priced aswell for fab location
J. R.
Make over at this place is stunning. Staff are lovely given great service. Gonna try the food next time
R. K.
Didn't know that they had been taken over always found its a nice place to meet up with your friends for a drink and a chat before heading in to town Will have to call back in for a pint 🍺🍺
f. J.
Fantastic staff brilliant and it has been refurbished to a really good standard while keeping the old fashioned decor
B. t. B.
Great choice of beer and food looking to book a Birthday Party there so will let you know
E. S.
The Union Rooms is always my first port of call when going out for some bevs in Newcastle. The atmosphere is relaxed and the quality of the pints is always perfect.
L. U.
Good bar in a central location.
Spacious inside and great for a few relaxed drinks with company.
S. A.
Food was fine, friendly staff. The building itself is wonderful...and that sweeping staircase...all done up for Christmas...wow!
K. R.
Love the building and it's interior. Good food and drink offers, especially burgers. Good selection of gins. Very reasonable.
J. J.
Went here for lunch and drinks, staff were amazing and so was the food .would defo go here again .
B. B.
Great waitresses, very nice atmosphere.
R. M.
Lovely old building with a number of rooms. They have tried quite hard to keep the original character. Other than that, a typical 'Spoons.
E. A.
Great atmosphere, very cool place accommodating a very big crowd and yes very yummy beer!
C. E.
Sat out the front in the sunshine good atmosphere, bit pricey though for me for a pint, but everybody's 👛 is different
J. T.
Great city centre location to.meet up and eat and drink!
S. L.
Lively place with pretty loud music downstairs. Quieter upstairs area if you want to talk / eat - good food available
A. G.
My favourite pub. Used to be my favourite pub but now spoilt by new owner. Overpriced. Overpriced. Overpriced. Atmosphere not there anymore
N. S.
Very cheap alcohol...but that's about it. Lacks decor/any kind of vibe. Wouldn't say it's cosy...definitely not somewhere I'd take the missus. Cheap pre-drinks with mates, definitely.
S. H.
Cracking pub, one of the best pint of Heineken I have had, good location near to the station, with a nice smoking area/beer garden.
I. L.
Lovely building but music is unnecessarily loud in evening and above background during the day. This does distract rather than improve the ambience.
R. C.
Beautiful building with different rooms. We had breakfast there and the food and service were great.
Q. T.
Went for a evening meal. Great service and lovely food, we'll be back.
A. S.
Good selection of beers and the food looked nice. Friendly staff too!
P. T.
Far better now that it is no longer part of that huge Pub Chain. You can now actually get served, even when busy.
I. O.
Music so loud staff can't hear your order, food average and what came didn't match what we ordered and some was cold.
G.
Good atmosphere. reasonable prices great location
Must try if you haven't been.
C. B.
Went for a works party, good buffet spread and great alcohol choice. Reasonably priced too
D.

H.
Food wasn't great. However nice venue and staff.
P. M.
A good-looking bar but was lousy with football fans when I was there and hard to move around, let alone find a seat.
S. C.
Too much noise. Its so high all noise bounces rounv the room. Gets on your nerves. Deffo a meeting point or one pint only for me
