Really loved this pub, staff were great, happy and friendly. Was unsure about trying the draft guest cider so staff happy to provide a sample.
The pie's, oh the pies! To die for! Great flavours and textures. I had minted Lamb and chicken, ham, and leek with cheddar mash, mushy peas and meat liquor, the Mrs had the guest special Braised beef pie with dijon mustard mash. All was amazing. And great prices, not expensive for food.
Great selection of drinks.
I will definitely go back next time in Newcastle.,
L. D.
Great food absolutely fantastic pie and mash, and if you got room left the puds are great, staff very friendly, nice and relaxed atmosphere,
L. S.
Quite simply the best pie I’ve ever had, fantastic menu choice as make up your own meal! Always visit when make a trip to Newcastle!
C. D.
Great looking bar from outside and doesn't disappoint, great staff, beer good and view good too..
V.
Up from London for a few days..have to say best steak n mushroom pie with meat gravy ever... 5 star pub food!
C. M.
Nice place to get a bite to eat for lunch. The pie 🥧 was nice but couldn't actually tell it was pie, could have easily been a minted lamb chop with mash. However the actual taste was delicious, with strong flavours and not full of added extras to bulk it out.
P. S.
Loved this place, food was great as long as you like pies which wasn't a problem. Staff were lovely and pleasant so give it a try.
R. D.
The famous pie pub. Need I say more? Just two words… PIE PUB.
Choose you pie, choose your potato, choose your side and choose your gravy. Choose well.
Sadly, double your pie seems to no longer be a thing.
Good range of beers in historic setting. Check out the vaults.
V. L.
Love this place, it feels so relaxing, full of character and history, a gem in the city. Lovely staff, a pleasure to visit
S. C.
Tenner for delicious pie, peas and chips. Staff were friendly especially the bald fella. Highly recommended.

The best pie peas and mash ever, amazing venue reflective of the more historic parts of the quayside too, lived in Newcastle for around 8 years only mistake is not coming sooner!
C. H.
Great vibe, lovely food, and very welcoming staff. We really enjoyed our visit, and will be back again.

The top thing is all the pies are mouth watering and goes well with creamy mash. U can say Pie & Pint a good combo 😝Very reasonable price, not much burden on ur pocket. Great location just next to Tyne Bridge beside river. Indoor n outdoor seating.
The atmosphere of the venue is classic. The old cobbled floors and stone walls give it a great feeling. The service is excellent. Friendly n helpful staff. Defo recommend.

First time I visited Redhouse this evening.
I had the Chicken, Leek and Gammon Pie with Garlic Confit Mash and Minted Peas. I was very impressed by the layout of the meal and good value for the 1 pie. There was an option for 2 pies £3.00 extra but I was happy with the 1.
I thought the pie and the minted peas were very tasty. I was not so keen on the mash, but it was decent.
I would definitely like to come again and try another pie flavour, and try the other liquors.
Great value for Money. Would definitely visit again some time.
L. W.
Great pub with a charming character & amazing history. Good range of ales, 6 casks on tap, with a range of several kegs too including Timmermans, Erdingher, Brooklyn & others. Would have got 5 stars had there not been so many fruit flies!
K. H.
My favorite pub when visiting. For someone who comes from California, there’s nothing like the ability to choose your pie with local options for a great dinner. Nothing like this back home
A. P. B.
Fantastic service, food is amazing and the beer selection is one of the best I’ve seen in town, can’t wait to come back! (Plus the place itself is very nice)
D. J.
Still a great bar and no dust anymore ( strange)
R. P.
Return visit after 2 years of pandemic & good to see still going with good beer choices (now added Camden), and the multi pies menu.
Our party of 7 had variety of pies, and range of accompanyments, plus range of deserts- all good except for inedible Gluten-Free pie option (advised there were issues with supplier). Manager responded positively to our concerns, adjusting bill - very reasonable all told.
O.
First of all the pies are unparralled and very reasonably priced. Secondly, and I cant stress this enough, the atmosphere of the venue is class. The old cobbled floors and stone walls give it a great feeling. Finally the service is excellent and the managers know what they are doing. Highly recommended. Great whiskey selection too.

Mrs T and I were visiting our family up north and spent the night in Newcastle upon Tyne and went out for dinner with Benson our lurcher. We found a truly great pub with a mahoosive choice of spirits lagers and ciders and 4 ales at least that I saw. At first it seems small and poky but is spreads out. The food is real proper northern fare cooked to perfection and very tasty. The decor is what I describe as squat chic and it's amazingly well done. The staff who we met were ace, kudos to all concerned on this ace enterprise.
G. G.
Very decent place. Staff friendly and accommodating. Good choice of drink. Food looks extremely interesting
B. T.
Awesome little pub, and definitely bigger on the inside. Real ale lovers will be more than happy, as will gin lovers.
R. J.
Loved it not evening meal material but pie n pint place loved it .full of real people . Food was cheap and reasonable quality will be back . The staff helpful and friendly
L. R.
Hidden gem! The pies are amazing and you will leave very satisfied, we have tried the steak, sausage and mince pies which are all great. We would suggest the minted peas and cheddar mash, and the meat gravy if you prefer a richer sauce.
A. N.
Great beer, friendly staff and amazing pies, Redhouse will not disappoint even the hungriest of customers
D. B.
Simple english food, served in a building that feels like a maze of wood and stone, which gives an authentic feeling, great personnel and fantastic overall atmosphere
B. W.
Inexpensive and delicious pies. Way better than the Cornish pastys I've had these past few weeks. Good beer selection too.
A. S.
Loved it's quirkiness last time we visited with open fire and old world appeal. Made our way down Tuesday and wasted journey it was shut Bad news .
P. B.
Dog friendly.
Very impressive bar/restaurant a stones throw from the river, huge bar with all original features/timbers etc.
Huge selection of drinks and the pies are awesome too! Sausage pie was absolutely outstanding, coupled with Dijon mash and meat gravy, out of his world.
Symonds Cider on draught 👍🏼
Highly recommended. In fact, a must visit, probably my favourite bar in Newcastle.
L. A.
Great service and excellent food. Highly recommend the chicken, chorizo and sweet potato pie; utterly delicious!
D. J.
It was amazing staff so friendly pies amazing. Deserts amazing. 9 of us there everyone of us said would definitely go again. 5 stars all round.
C. H.
Nice little pub friendly staff , loved the pint of neckoil 🤪
M. L.
Great old worldy pub...great choice of ales, lagers and spirits. The food is locally sourced and great quality...hearty pie, peas and mash with good selection of flavours for each component. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Also it's dog friendly
Update...visited today to sample the new menu.
Unfortunately the rating has lost a star as, whether it's the original food supplier has changed menus or the pub has changed supplier...the food was not great.
The pies are nowhere near as nice as used to be, the mash was very processed looking and tasting and the minted peas were not very minty, like theyd been served with mint as an afterthought.
Also...at no point between ordering and starting to eat were we told my daughters choice was not available. So she ended up having to choose something different and ended up eating after my wife and I.
I still love the place, for its friendly staff and relaxed vibe...so will be back, but probably not for food.
P. T.
First time I've been n was good, liked how a few pubs connected by old corridors
R.
Great pub. Nice & friendly staff. The food was excellent and good selection of drinks. Love it
M. C.
Amazing pies & great value. Can't wait to go back again!
Visited again at the end of October 2019 and the pies are still amazing!
C. A.
A lovely, litle pub right on the quayside. Simple menu, friendly staff and all at a good price. Five stars for dog lovers as well - free treats behind the bar! Can't wait to visit again soon.
B. C.
Ate here while staying in Newcastle. Fabulous historic building. Lovely pie and very garlicky mash! Good choice of pies an mash's. Attentive friendly staff.
Woke this morning to discover I had left my purse there. Nightmare. They had not only kept it safe but refused to let me leave a cash gift as appreciation. Fab place. Fab staff. Fab food. See you soon. Xx
J. S.
Great pub, lovely interior, good food, and always a fantastic selection of beers.
G. O.
Traditional old pub with good selection of beers and ales spread around a number of adjacent buildings.
J. W.
Really immersive decor. Pie and mash was brilliant - some of the best I've ever had. Venue was very busy on a Friday night - we were lucky to find an empty table.
T. C.
Excellent real ales..White Rat...superb pie chips and peas...and fab: barstaff...plus, happy wee dogs!!
M. H.
Excellent service, and if you love pies, this is the place for you. Visited twice while visiting Newcastle for Rugby weekend. Quirky pub would recommend a visit. Sit in or out, near the Tyne.
D.
Awesome pies, good service and friendly staff! Can't reccomend this place enough.
J. H.
Great food if you love a pie . Good place for food or just a beer
N.
Excellent place to go after work for a pie and a pint. Beautiful old building with superb ales. Four people, eight pies, 38 quid... 5 stars. PS, the pease pudding is to die for.
J. P.
Cost, vibrant little pub with good prices. Excellent for pre dinner drinks.
M. D.
Great food, great atmosphere friendly staff had a really good night thank you
K. G.
Great from every aspect! Ambient, pies, beer varieties.. All of them remarkable and a combination that is hard to beat.. A true gem of Newcastle! Definitely a stop by when visiting Quayside! Stout ale mince meat pie and stout draught beer recommended!
CORRECTED FOLLOW UP REVIEW (after COVID):
They now require a 10% table service fee although you go yourself to order at the bar and they just bring over the pies (beers are not brought over). I do not see the difference in the service before and after covid so it is not very comprehensive as to why this extra charge. Moreover the pies were not well looked after and in fact lightly burnt. Clearly an affected COVID business which has increased the cost asked from the customer to pay but decreased its quality... Too bad... :-(
K. B.
Nice relaxed place for a sunday coffee and read of the newspapers. Dog friendly also.
E. T.
Love the historic feels it brings, and some surprises whiskey it has. Good for a pint or wine or spirit after work
j. b.
What a place, Very deceived by the size, So many little alcoves and different areas to enjoy. Great staff.
J. W.
Nice meal. Table cleanliness needs attention. Unusual old pub with all separate rooms. Near to the Tyne bridge on the quayside.
A. L.
Great food and service st a very reasonable price. The staff are always helpful too. Wonderful location for a walk before or after your meal too.
M. K.
Took two spanish colleagues here last night as we were visiting england, and they loved it. Pies were great, good selection of beer, and an apple crumble at the end. Me gusta, muchas gracias!
M. d. M.
The place looks fantastic and the crew is very friendly. I'm not English enough to judge the pies (they tasted great!), but I am Dutch enough to say that the prices are very good! ;-)
D. C.
Great little bar. Nice and cosy atmosphere
D. C. A. C.
Great pub with good meat and vegetables pies , nice architecture and dog friendly!
D. N.
Lovely traditional pub, pie mash and peas on a tin plate is incredible 😋
S. M.
Lovely, quirky pub down on the quayside. It's a Tardis! Serves Peroni too
v. j.
The food is amazing and the bar staff are really friendly
A. D.
Fab range of beer and tasty pie
S. H.
Quirky pub just off the Quayside. Check their menu out. Deffo worth a visit if you like pies!
J. V. C.
How can you not love a place where you can build your own pies and it has an amazing soundtrack. One of my top places in ncl
C. T.
Excellent bar. Friendly staff.
Love it
b. l.
Been a while since been in the pub still a good pub like
P.
Must visit this little place if you're in the area, proper old Quirky building.
M. S.
Lovely pies and good service. Need to make this my regular place. Also a huge bonus for the music not being too loud so that you can have a conversation.
M. B.
loved the ambience and the original features were so interesting. it was like stepping back in time
M. A.
Probably the best English pies that I have ever tried in my life... And I am Ukrainian :)
A. E.
Good choice of spirits & good surroundings. .duty manager quite stressed tho
C. S.
One of my favourite places in Newcastle to eat and drink. Can never fault the service, atmosphere, food or drinks. Plus they're dog friendly and bring a bowl for the dog, love it.
K. M.
Great experience... and super price. Wish I lived closer and we would sample the many possible combinations...it makes the humble pie something to relish!
R. W.
Nice, friendly staff
Steak pie , mash peas and liquor has been turned into fine dining by talented people.
Been there before and will be back again
S.
Good pint of ale and brilliant staff
R. H.
Lovely old pub. Great selection of beers and pies!
P. S.
Good friendly staff, good beer.
J. F.
Great pies! Garlic mash for the win
J. G.
Really tasty pies and sides and a vast selection of beers. Highly recommend booking if it's a special offer night or if you are a bigger group. Top notch service too, the staff opened up the private dining area for us when there was an issue with the booking system. The only improvement would have been if the festive pies were still available at New year's ;)
C. D.
Good pub, lovely food and a good choice of beers.
J. M. F.
One my fave Newcastle bars with a great vibe in such an old interesting building. Staff are so lovely and working very hard for us all in these mad times! Selection of beers good and pies delicious and comfort food big time!
B. S.
Stumbled across this place by accident & so glad we did. Amazing atmosphere, great service & whilst the menu is limited to handmade pies & mash, there were several varieties of each & the meal was delicious. I will definitely make a trip back there if travelling through the UK again. Well done guys! 😋
J. T.
Great pies for a great price. You get loads of choice and can mix and match your fillings, mash, gravy and liquor however you like. I recommend the spinach, goat cheese and sweet potato pie in particular. Interior is beautiful as well and can get busy on Wednesday nights, when they do 2 pies for £12.
g. s.
Brilliant selection of pies. We do love a pie., unique for Newcastle and in a great old setting as well.
K. T.
Love this place.
Like a Warren - very quirky 👍
T. G.
You have to visit just for the pies, fantastic food, great staff and fine selection of ales.
This has got to be the best pub I visited in Newcastle
B. H.
Simple menu done incredibly well. Very tasty pies and great beer, especially the beer made there! What's not to love about tasty pies served with mash of your choice, gravy (sorry, liquor) of your choice and peas!?! Combine that with it being situated on the beautiful Quayside, right next to Bessie Surrees house, and you know this place is going to be good. It is even possible to try the beer prior to buying, which I always think is a lovely thing to do 😁
M. C.
Excellent pie meal and spectacularly good value with an offer that ran through January. A great atmospheric setting although it was very quiet at lunchtime. I cannot honestly think of anywhere else that I've visited that had a fireplace in the gents loos. Bessie Surtees house has been put to an unpredictable use.
L. S.
Was quiet when I visited, staff were very friendly, drink prices were great and plenty of choice.
S. C.
Great pub for beer and pie! Don't let the small front on the street fool you - this place stretches back a long way. The pub has a good selection of real ales, with a fair few local ones. But the real star is the pie selection, and a great build-your-own-meal style menu, with veggie options too. There are good food deals available on certain weeknights. Definitely worth a visit.
G. G.
Lush little pub with the best view of the Tyne bridge!
J. A.
Awesome pub....Great wine too
B. K.
Nice, traditional style of pub. Classic character, warm and friendly. They offer good old fashioned food--the day I went was a special offer--2 meals for£12. So very good value. They also serve a varying choice of ales. No frills but its not meant to be.
R. T.
Lovely old pub.
You can get lost in this building.
S.
Would have been a definite 5 stars but on a few occasions the food has not been served hot but just warm. Also happens with the coffees. The place can get very busy so possibly it's because meals are being rushed out.
Otherwise, the place is excellent - very tasty pie meals and desserts and the staff are always pleasant and cheerful. I go there regularly and will continue to do so.
T. W.
Nice intimate bar with a great selection of beers and spirits. My only gripe being that its a tad overpriced. Friendly staff who are very helpful. No charge on your phone or vape pen? Just hand it over the bar and they'll charge it for you no sweat!
L. S.
A lovely little pub,well worth a visit
F. K.
Interesting place. Not sure they are totally ready to reopen. We were sat in our own room which was nice but a little dusty looking and sadly the pints were a bit flat
J. R.
Great beer. Friendly staff. The pub also doubles as a maze. 😂
K. F.
A large group of us had a reservation. There were 19 in the group and they coped quite well. There was a bit of a wait between courses, but owing to the size of the group, that was understandable. The food was fine (pie and mash) and there was a good selection of beers.
R. S.
Fantastic as per usual. The food is phenomenal, simple and well priced. The staff, in particular, we're excellent. We arrived on the cusp of service and they served us anyway then gave us some quality historical banter, then they left us alone. Perfect. Beautiful venue, good location, best meal for halfway through a night out in Newcastle.
J. B.
As always, very good pie, mash, peas and gravy. Plenty of different choices of pies but the steak pie was really good and full of chunky meat pieces. The price is very good , only £8.95 for 1 pie with the trimmings and an extra £4.00 for a 2nd pie. Would definitely recommend a visit.
I. M.
Incredible old pub in a historic area of Newcastle. Low ceilings, creaking doors, good selection of ales...what more do you want? :-)
B. G.
I found this pub exceptional. It's very old very quirky.with a lot of small cosy nooks and corridors. The ladies was amazing .A totally unspoilt pub . Good choice of ales spirits and food. Despite it being busy my disabled. Friend and my little dog found a table inside and we're served by cheerful staff who went the extra mile to help.
It couldn't have been better. Most of the customers were enjoying the sunshine on the large seating area outside .In the evening there was security to make sure everyone had a chance to enjoy themselves.
K.
I love this place but my most recent visit was really disappointing. Booked for drinks but taken to other end of the building where the nearest bar wasn't stocked and had limited selection on draught. Service was poor. Unfriendly and quite rude. I totally understand that current times aren't easy to manage but it was as if the staff just didn't want customers to be there.
L. R.
Quirky wee building with loads of history. Best food I've had in newcastle just real proper rustic meal.
A. S.
The meal was fast and filling. The selection of beer was good and the staff friendly and helpful.
Y. F.
Good food. Helpful staff.
D. L.
Loved it. Could stay and never leave. Unique
R. S.
Proper little gem of a pub close to the quay side. Lovely building with lots of history and lots of little rooms to choose from. Good beer selection and lovely staff. We popped in for a couple on a Saturday evening and ended up staying until closing. We'll go again next time we're in Newcastle for sure.
N. H.
We only popped in for a meal and drink but our food was lovely! Staff were easy to chat to and very friendly. The building is beautiful! Defiantly worth a visit :)
T. P.
Incredible old building, like being in a theatre set. Great beer selection too.
S. D.
Big place with lots of different areas and bars making it cosy but able to keep distance from people as well
Good atmosphere and seating areas
C. R.
Excellent food, very simple quick process to get your food ordered. And it is out very quickly as well. Whether sat near the front or the back it is a great place to stop in for a drink and even at its busy times it doesn't feel too cramped. Also dog friendly which is a great bonus.
N. F.
The bar has recently been took over so it lacked glasses etc but the staff are super helpful and friendly, cosy little rustic bar with TV for sport
T. M.
A good range of real ales. They do a taster tray of 3 -1/3 drinks which gives you a chance to find your favourite. The deco is very quirky. Really like the snug area. Would recommend for beer lovers
L. S. M.
When we came to Newcastle we had the specific goal of finding a place to have pie and mash because that's what people eat in the north. This place has quite a unique spin on the concept as you have the choice to put together your own meal, with different fillings, veg, and types of mashed potato. All very hipster but also all very tasty! Only one vegetarian option but thankfully it was delicious. Beer selection not the world's most varied but more than good enough.
D. S.
A nice selection of ours are on offer at this pie and mash pub. Unfortunately, there have always been about one third of the selection of ours unavailable to order on every occasion I have been. Good beer selection, although it can be quite a long wait at times due to minimal staffing.
K. H.
Really delicious pie and mash at a reasonable price. Also dog friendly! The staff were very accommodating of my dog and brought him is own bowl of water and made a fuss of him.
l. h.
Lovely location in Newcastle, very old quirky bar, love it, good beer, great staff
T. J.
Dog friendly and a nice place to have a drink after a walk with you 4 legged friends
H. H.
A great old building with little bits to explore. The drinks were reasonable and the service was good. We'll be back.
J. V. F.
Best pub for trying out new beers and ales or just generally having a relaxing drink. Music is always on point! Super nice guy Chris will let you try and pick one you like. Amazing service, ambience and atmosphere!
T. H.
Great beer. Great building. Not had food but looked good. Friendly bar staff. Run ragged both of them when maiden played. Deserved a medal. Defo popping in when I am back up for slayer gig.
C. D.
Warm, amazing atmosphere, friendly service, and fantastic food!
S. G.
Great to back this far north. Friendly people, interesting places
J. S. (.
Dog friendly. Nice pies. Good ales. Unpretentious decor. Friendly staff
C. R.
Pie mash and gravy was delicious. Great selection of beer. The pub specializes in pie and mash and do it excellently. The gravy was amazing. If I could lick the plates clean I would. Great spot
M. S.
Really nice pub. Hop selection if beers
t. K.
Amazing food, the garlic mash was fabulous and the lamb and mint pie excellent.
t. o.
surprising place, from outside it looks like another quayside bar but they do very good pie and mash as well.
K. B.
Good old cash on pub with cobbled floor and open wood fire through the back a micro brewery. The pub to go for a great pie. Pie with just about the biggest selection of mash and gravey and believe me they are worth the visit just bye themselves but real ales and fresh coffee are on the go. Staff are top notch will take a few visits to get through the pies and mash. Reports on different types will be available as sampled the thing I have to endure for my queen and country ? The quest begins!!!
j. b.
Used to come here many moons ago on a Friday night when younger and single- how times change!!😂 . Came here after lovely meal on a Tuesday night and it was deserted! Just what i now like!! Sure it's still kicking at the weekend but we just wanted a drink to round off the evening. Bar staff totally disinterested as obviously we are a different generation- -but still enjoy a drink!
P. S.
A friendly enough place, with plenty of seating scattered around its many rooms. A wide choice of ales (if that's your tipple). The food is basic, they often do a pie masha and peas night.
S. F.
Great bar with loads of cosy corners and good outdoor seating area. Staff all friendly.
J. R. R.
Friendly staff with a good selection of cask ales, but not much of interest on keg. Interior is interesting with some cool walls made of old doors and vestiges of the old pub but the chairs could do with renovating (uncomfortable or worn out). Would go again for the atmosphere.
G. N.
Love the place, proper old style bar with good access to quayside and town.
M. S.
A nice cosy pub in town with a really old pub kind of feel. Reasonably priced drinks and friendly staff.
A. A.
Amazing 400 year old pub full of ancient charm. Lots of beer on offer. Loved the old fire lace in the gents. Only down side was one of the barmen had B.O.. Couldn't work out which one it was, either the Harry Potter lookalike or the muscley ginger beardy guy.
D. M.
The pies are good and good value. Double up if you have a hearty appetite for only 3 pounds more. Great selection of beers on tap!
S. t.
1 of my favorite pubs in newcastle , good price for drinks and the service first class , everyone should visit this pub when in town
F. F. S.
For a trip down memory lane for me, a fantastic old building whey good beer.
L. S.
Tasty! Only had a pie garlic mash was delicious and the spinach and sweet potato veggie pie is yummy. Could have been severed a bit warmer but overall nice hangover meal.
L. L.
Great pies and some good beers available. Huge place so can't see you struggling to find a table if you need somewhere cheap and cheerful for something to eat.
D. A.
. We visited this bar before a restaurant meal. We were originally headed for the Wetherspoons bar on the Quayside but this was totally rammed and then I remembered the Red House. It was a haven of tranquility, still busy though, great selection of beers and very cosy. Well recommended
L. M.
Traditional pub with friendly staff. Didn't try any food but assumed they served as there was cutlery at the bar :)
J. E.
Absolutely love the charm of this place. Great pies and a simple but tasty menu, good ale selection to go with it all and staff are great too. Superb value
P. B.
Incredible atmosphere inside this 17th century building. One of my favourite pubs in Newcastle, Red House has a huge selection of craft beers and ales across it's two bars. Food-wise, it only serves pies and mash with gravy - but boy, oh boy, what pies they are. Steak Pie, Dijon Mustard & Honey Mash, Minted Peas and Meat 'Liquor' is definitely my go-to combination.
I love all the little nook and crannies you can sit in too, sprawled throughout the building.
S. F.
Good beer. Good food. Good company. Worth a visit.
J. G.
Quirky pub with great atmosphere
L. L.
The Redhouse is a great little place, situated at the bottom of Dean Street on the Quayside and the building itself has lots of charm and character. You can cosy up in the brick cellar towards to the bar or sit in a little booth by the front door and look out at the Tyne Bridge. There's always a great selection of real ales and single malts and the prices are reasonable. The Redhouse food menu is exclusively pie and mash however don't let that put you off as the pies are to die for! Highly recommend the steak pie but there are vegetarian options also available and they are just as tasty!
J. C.
Always a real pleasure to visit. A great selection of drinks topped only by a great selection of pies, mash and peas. Affordable, quint and overall delicious.
G. A.
Friendly welcoming atmosphere
S. D.
Pie mash and peas. Very simple but very nice. Nothing overly special, you get what you pay for. Really interesting listed building dating back to 1600's. Worth a pop in for that alone.
R. R.
amazing - great menu and pies are excellent. lovely mash and gravy. nice selection of beers & cool music - highly recommend !!
A. P.
Love this place. Great simple food; pease pudding is a must! Well priced beer, in a perfect location. Great interior to the pub too!
A. R.
Great pub with hand pulled real ale. Great staff, friendly and helpful.
S. C.
Always lovely food and brilliant ales along with great service, highly recommend
I. K.
Nice quaint place with good food and excellent atmosphere. Nice location too and feels very cosy. It's a little small but if you are lucky enough to get a seat next to the windows you get to enjoy a nice view of the street and passer bys. Love this place. As a tourist as well as someone who's lived in Newcastle for approximately seven years, I try to go here anytime I am back in the Toon. You should try it. Can't get disappointed.
K. A.
Great beers staff music and views
F. H.
The most amazing pie! Will definitely be returning!
J. G.
Quickly becoming one of my favourite bars in Town! Great quirky layout, good beer, nice and dimly lit. Great place for great conversation and links up with the Hop & Cleaver if you wanted something a little 'foody-er' and upmarket
G. W.
Food was amazing steak pie and cheese mash was to die for. Staff really friendly and a good selection of 🍺 and some belta music.👍😀
P. M.
Read the reviews for the place and thought I'd give it a go, and I'm glad I did! Simple, tasty and filling food in a nice quiet setting. If you was a good pie with amazing mash then go here!!
J. R.
Came here with eighteen other chaps for tea on a Saturday evening. We had pre-booked and pre ordered our grub well before the day. Unfortunately we might as well not have bothered. Service throughout was poor. Nothing wrong with the girl doing the graft, but the place needed many more grafters that night so it appeared to us.
The food was good but for what you get is on the steeper end of the price scale, plus you don't get very much either.
I'll probably not go out my way to return soon.
E. C.
Best pies in Newcastle. Don't think I'd pay the full price of £8.95 for a pie meal but on Wednesday they have an offer of 2 pie meals for £12 so take a friend and grab a cheap dinner, it's definitely worth it.
J. T.
The Red house pub erm what shall I say well to be honest it is 1 of my favourite pubs in Newcastle. It is a real ale pub with stone floors, why stone well nobody really knows.
Because the building has been there for that long now, nobody can remember what it was originally used for. I personally think it was a coaching inn, during the days of horse and cart. Nobody really knows.
J. W.
Great pub on the quayside. Get the window seat if you can. Has a good fire on colder days. The beer is good and the pie and mash menu is superb. What's not to like.
D. A.
Olde world type pub, nice decor, great staff who are very friendly and helpful, usual covid rules apply
E. F.
Always though this place was an expensive restaurant from the outside I could not have been so wrong. This place is a must visit if you are ever in town, friendly, great atmosphere and good pie 'n' mash. I think this is my new favorite place.
D. w.
So this is how it went ......
Hay we have this cool historic like bar, in this amazing location near the Tyne. Shall we just serve beer, no let's do pies, not just any pies, the best pies in the world....
And so the Red House was born. Like pies, don't like pies, still come here!
m.
Great little pub with a fab view of the Tyne bridge (if you sit in the side room!) Quirky decor, and fantastic food - the pies are amazing! Very reasonably priced and good portions.
D. L.
Lovely outside seating area for people watching, a belting view of the Tyne Bridge too
Z. H.
Delicious pies served with great mash and veg. A good supply of drinks on tap and plenty of seating available. I will go again!!
S. J.
Wednesday two pies meals for £10, a good selection of ales and friendly bar staff..
What more could you want. Although no phone reception in the back... Might not be a bad thing.
A. W.
Delicious food, great pint and friendly staff who were very accommodating of two small children. Highly recommend!
L.
Good pub, nice atmosphere but there was a weird woman in the toilets
m. k.
Great local pub down by the water. Great oldy worldy character. Good pies too.
P. R.
Cosy friendly and hreat music
T. J.
Quirky bar near the Quayside, lots of different rooms inside. Good service, good for singles, couples and groups. Bar areas a little dark, some might say atmospheric.
R.
One of the best pubs on the quayside. Definitely worth a visit! I'd recommend the pie and mash if you want a quick bite to eat
R. W.
Great food, great drinks at great prices. Lovely and cosy, especially on a cold day. Highly recommended if you're wanting something hearty to eat.
b. m.
Awesome period pub with excellent food. They do the best pies I've tasted ever, so worth a visit. I'd say worth the visit to Newcastle solely for this pub.
C. M.
Amazing little bar on the quayside. As soon as you walk in, it's like stepping back in time and offers you a glimpse as to what the place would have looked like many years ago! Definitely check it out.
E. C.

Food was okay. Was expecting it to be nicer but honestly could not tell the difference between some pies! Beer selection was okay but service was a bit slow. May have just been one of those days though.
A. L.

Labrinthine pub that's been there for ages. Fires on in the winter, nice to sit at the big windows and watch the world pass. Pies are okay too.
B. F.
This is an unusual pub right down by the river and it has a lot of character. Corridors that twist and rooms within rooms. It has the feel of a Dostoevsky novel. A must to visit.
C. B.
Fantastic pies and a nice atmosphere!
S. Q. (. Q.
A canny pint, a nice pie and mash, good deal on a Wednesday night. Been a few times never feels particularly friendly but it's a good cheap midweek night out.
