Amazing little pub in Ouseburn. Best vegan food I've had in a while. Warm friendly atmosphere with a good vibe. Will definitely be going back. Wish more places could offer tasty interesting vegan food.

We came here before a gig at the Cluny and what a wise decision that was. We are vegan and as the menu is all animal-free it was nice to have the whole menu to choose from. My partner got Jackfruit kebab and I went for the tofu fish and chips. Both meals we're delicious and we're freshly cooked. My partner also opted for a dessert and again that was AMAZING. We'll be back again and we would highly recommend it to anyone vegan or not.

Absolutely delicious vegan food, relaxed atmosphere, a great range of ales and friendly staff. My only suggestion if you're visiting is to order everything you'll want in one go on busy nights as staff are so stretched you may be missed until you ambush someone! And I wish more outdoor seats had backrests 🤣

As a Geordie who's lived in London for the last 30 odd years, I remember The Ship rather differently to what it is now... Dropped in for some lunch today on a recommendation, and was blown away by the food, which was simply first class. Huge portions and amazing flavours (I had the kebab, GF had burger and chips). Parked right outside for a couple of hours for only £1.80, too. If you're vegan, it's worth making a special trip to this place. And if you're not, you'll still find the food to be absolutely banging, so be sure to go anyway. We will definitely be going back - quite possibly tomorrow!

Smashing pub. Great range of your favourite tipples food and wine. Nice and relaxed with good staff. Doing a great job. Well worth a visit but be prepared for a canny walk up or doon a hill or two.

Fantastic pub offering a great range of drinks and an extensive vegetarian menu. Plenty of outdoor seating with a fair few tables inside as well. Be warned - it gets busy so be prepared to wait (but it's worth it!)

3 feels a little generous but the food was excellent. Tofu fish wrapped in seaweed and mushy peas are amazing. Unfortunate that 30-35 minute wait for food actually became an hour and ended up getting food in take out box for the train. Nice that the take out carriers were compostable/recyclable but no cutlery or condiments. Free cookie to apologise for the wait was excellent. Would return, but maybe not on a Sunday afternoon.

I really want to give this place 5 stars as it is amazing, and the food they have to offer looks so good. HOWEVER as a gluten free vegan I was left with very little choice (a bit like being vegetarian back in the 90’s/00’s with only that ONE veggie lasagna as a choice). What I did get (jackfruit shawarma minus bread) was very delicious. More gluten free options needed.

Amazing pub and so much choice as its vegan!! Only thing I wish wish wish is that they put their opening times on/ made it available to book as there have been two times now I've turned up and it's not open! If someone would manage this it would be a lot less frustrating. Apart from that can't fault it!

I was there for watching England-Germany football match in Euro. Great and friendly staff. There were just two points: first, I did not know that all meals are only vegan. I ordered fish and chips, and to be honest, I was struggling finish it. However, my friend who is a big fan of meat, really enjoyed his vegan burger. So, I guess it is fair to say the food is good. I am also afraid of dogs, and dogs were allowed to come inside. It was a little bit scary for me, but nothing happened. So, I will definitely go again, but will stay outside and order burger. :)

I have been to The Ship many times and it's almost always been great. Sometimes you might wait a while longer than expected but food, like the lovely jackfruit flat bread and salt and chilli fries in my photo, has been worth it. Fully vegan menu is always nice to have around as it just offers the chance to enjoy some different flavours and doesn't have to compete with meat. Ok but not extensive selection of beers etc. but since it has Blue Moon on tap, it's always a good option for a place to grab both food and a drink for me.

Love the Ship and the current owners have worked a marvel on this old boozer. It's had a chequered history but this is the best it's ever been. Not my sort of place. But the people who I was with loved it. They had the vegan chicken burgers and vegan fish n chips and thought they were the best. So would say it's an excellent vegan place to eat. Staff are nice and it's in a good location to be part of a walk. Maybe a couple of just plain veg dishes, eg veg pasta bake or broccoli curry, for meat eaters who find meat substitutes a bit daunting? If someone asked me where the best vegan restaurant was I would say yours everytime, don't mean this to sound negative and it's in no way meant that way.

We went for a small office get together. 12 of us. And to say some were surprised by the menu would be an understatement. it was 100% Vegan. My daughter is a Vegan, so it didn't surprise me, but some of our party were very surprised indeed. Overall the food was not bad, some mains better than others. I am never convinced by imitations, if you want to offer great Vegan food, then cook it. Don't try to replicate food like Nachos that need cheese that melts! But the beer was good, a decent choice of local cask ales. And for the most part we enjoyed. I would have given it an extra star, but the place is a little 'tired' to say the least, in need of a coat of paint and some new upholstery.

The Jack Fruit Shawarma was amazing and from someone who isn't vegan it was one of the best ways to cut my meat intake down I have ever had. I was able to get this gluten free without the flatbread. I can also report that the burger was darn good too. Though apparently too tall to eat and had to be deconstructed. Very dog friendly, even brought a bowl of water over for him.

Well worth a visit! Good to see somewhere serving only plant based food. I made a couple of trips here while I was back up in Newcastle over Christmas. Cozy atmosphere with a good selection of beers. The food was all good, but very heavy carby beige food. You'll be well fed! It would be cool see some lighter greener options, maybe some raw food creations?

I love it here. It's a beautifully building inside and out. The menu is fantastic, I've tried six or seven different dishes and every one was delicious. I love that their beers are labelled as vegan too. The options tend to be very pale ale heavy which is a shame for me as I really only like brown or darker but I can still usually find something. Oh, and they allow dogs, which is a massive bonus for me as I don't like to leave my little pack at home for too long.

Amazing food, I'm not vegan but the food here is epic and appreciated. The staff went above and beyond and felt with the whole covid, distancing, track n trace thing really well. The food here is amazing quality! Fantastic place for vegetarians! The service is exceptional, warm and friendly. The selection of drinks was very good. There is a nice little selection of board games and quiz books to pass the time and for a bit of light entertainment among friends and family. Equipped with baby chairs (the wooden kind without a tray mounted to them) and a kids menu which isn't high in salt or dodgy fast food this place is ideal to take the older children for a nice afternoon meal. Would love to give it 5stars if it wasn't for an issue which makes the place unsuitable for people with little ones. Despite having the space for a fold out table, they have not installed appropriate baby changing facilities. You would have to leave the pub and go to another place such as the farm across the road in order to change a baby (not really kid friendly in that sense).

First veggie Sunday lunch in my life. It was a delightful vegetable pie with a smorgasbord of garlicky vegetables and roast potatoes smothered in a rosemary flavoured gravy. It was really good. Been meaning to visit here for ages after hearing about the vegan menu, and the food didn't disappoint. Really tasty and different. What did disappoint was the servers didn't seem to want to be there. Drinks had to be ordered 1 at a time as if they'd get easily confused, and they got the dessert order wrong so it had to be sent back again, but even that came across as if we should have put up with it and accepted the wrong order. Such huge potential, but being let down by the little things like accurate orders and making customers feel welcome.

My friend would give 6 stars if she could. She also says if there is a future visit to Newcastle, this restaurant stays on her food itinerary that she emailed us. Other friend says 5x5x5. Absolutely top vegan food ! great choices and so tasty. We had the tacu tacu , taco barbacoa and the falafel and all of us wolfed it down, including my daughter who loves her meat. The ambience of the pub is homely and honest and usually packed at the weekends. Good value for money. There isn't much parking available but note that if you park in the road about 50feet away its half the price of the pub car park.

Went here after the Victoria Tunnels tour - food is amazing! It's like a normal pub, but the food choices are not what I expected. I'm not veggie or into counting calories, but the food choice was great and not expensive and sooo tasty!

I'm not even a veggie and I absolutely loved the food here. The Sunday dinner was so flavoursome, it was hands down the lushest Sunday lunch I've had. That gravy, wow. The staff seemed really genuine too, very friendly and happy to help. They have a vast selection of ales and ciders on tap. The menu changes throughout the week I think. You can tell they put a lot of effort into it, the chef obv knows his stuff. Canny crowd and situated in the lovely Ouseburn, what's not to love?

New favourite pub in Newcastle: totally lovely staff, delicious vegan food and drinks, great atmosphere and friendly punters. 10/10 This was my review until I recently went during the daytime with a friend and her young baby and had a totally different perspective... There were no baby changing facilities and my friend was gossiped about by the chef and bar staff when she fed her child. Later on we were harassed by some dogs (belonging to punters) and though I didn't mind the canine attention my friend and her child were very distressed. I've been back a couple of times since but only in the evenings and not for long, that experience really sullied my feeling for The Ship and their treatment of people.

Having had a dry January and continued into February and considering this is a special day the 29th I had my first pint of alcohol in this Ship Inn opposite the Cluney. I went for the IPA from the keg and at £5 a pint I was disappointed, perhaps It was me on choosing the wrong ale who knows. The pub was very busy and food from what I witnessed look appetising.

What a surprise... a pub selling vegan food! Stumbled across it over New Year - tucked away under the viaduct at Ouseburn, all snug and cosy. I had nachos with vegan chilli, vegan cheese and vegan sour cream & my daughter had the vegan 'fish' and chips...yummy!

Ouseburn is a fantastic little are to start the night out in if your planning an evening on the town, and this is the pub you start with. A country style pub smack bang in the middle of the city and on a steep embankment. Start here, take the scenery in, then head down the hill, past/onto the Cluny and the Tyne bar and then head up the quayside.
