The bottom line: It's definitely nice, has talking point serving gimmicks, but also is expensive for what you get. The two food items we got were the Steak Fillet Sandwich and the Chicken Basket. The Sandwich was £13.75 and the Chicken Basket was £13.50. Both very nice tasting and both come with fries and sauce, with the basket having a cob of corn. The sprigs of rosemary pushed into the top of the steak sandwich I had, were torched with a gas flame by the server, who said it was to give a pleasant aroma...which it did for a short few seconds. I obviously just removed them pretty much straight away before I tucked in. I'd go back as the menu looks interesting but just probably just once in a while or a work even when I'm not paying as drinks are also pricey, but that should be expected nowadays.

Would rate this 4.5/5. Cocktails with a scientific twist and a dash of magic! Great atmosphere with very friendly bar staff! Try The Mad Hatters Tea cocktail whilst you're here, it's surprisingly good.

Absolutely love it in here, the staff are out of this world there are never queues as they are multi tasking making complicated cocktail drinks sometimes 5 at a time while taking the next orders they are truly amazing. I always used to have a Wimbledon but it's not on the menu anymore but they still made it for me and it was divine. The drinks are pricey but it's a nice experience going there so you dont mind as much. Would highly recommend

Amazing choice of cocktails, something for everyone here. Never let down by the standard of what is presented and made here, you can tell the bartenders really know what they're doing. One of the floor staff, Lucy, was also lovely and friendly.

Great theatrical drinks experience. The cocktail menu is good, it shows the glass shape the drink is served in and the eyeball symbol means there's liquid ice in the drink. Ordered food, everything is pricey but good quality. I got boring pinot grigio wine but my cousin got cocktails. For 2 steaks, 4 drinks and 1 desert it was £103. Pricey but such fun. The waiting staff were great too... Shout out to Becca who made our night.

Came here for a drink, party of 6 bar accepts walk ins but can’t book a table which is a shame! Great atmosphere and very busy but all tables pre booked for meals or hen do’s. Bar staff very busy so a long ten minutes plus wait definitely need to increase the staff here. We all got something different to drink but quite expensive at £50 a round!! I got a pineapple daiquiri with a somewhat random dry piece of pineapple on - fresh would have been better then at least I could have eaten it… having said that would come again.

Too gimmicky for me, ordered a drink that looked good when it came, only to be stopped from drinking it because the server had to add a foam on top from a handheld gadget. Same with the food, it was nice, but again had to wait while the server finished off the dish with another gadget. Expensive for what I ordered, over £35 for one non alcoholic cocktail, burger and dessert.

Such a cool cocktail bar with unique and interesting cocktail! I ordered bubble bath, it's sweet and so easy to drink. Just feel like having fun while enjoying tasty cocktail. This place is brilliant. The staff where great fun. All of the "science" theatrics used with the coctail preperation is exciting an good fun to watch... with fire and smoke and colour changing drinks its the ideal way to start a night out. "Ellie" served us last night and she did a fantastic job she kept us laughing and enjoying ourselves all night. The only thing I have to mention are the prices in this place will have you burning through money fast not the place to go if your on a budget. That being said the exciting science themed theatrics and atmosphere make it worth every penny. Unfortunately we didnt get to sample the food. Although the food we saw being served looked amazing.

It's definitely worth going to and just seeing the amazing cocktails. I think the pricing is the main problem. We only stayed for one drink because at £10 ish for a small drink it's just too expensive. Like I say though it's definitely somewhere you should visit. I've been to many cocktail bars around the world very few get the drama and excitement of the cocktails right. The alchemist knows how to put on a show

A lot of entertainment value! We were there to eat, and the food was fine (although if you don't like a lot of salt on your food you may like to ask the waiter to make sure to hold off on the salt with chips). You do need to order at least one slightly crazy cocktail or dessert though, it's the point of the visit. The Candyfloss Baked Alaska needs to be seen to be believed!

Areas for both drinks and dining. Popped in here for a drink on a Saturday night and it was so busy (not a bad thing) waited at the bar and ordered a cocktail and a pint. The lad behind the bar got my cocktail wrong so gave me the one he made and the one I ordered was on the house, which was a lovely gesture. Always a good place for cocktails. They have a large range of drinks, including mocktails so there is something for everyone. The menus change seasonally so there is always something new to try. The food has always been nice here, with a fair amount of choice. I particularly liked the cotton candy baked Alaska they have at the moment.

We often pop in for drinks and they are great! however we had food here for the first time this saturday as a party of 6 and 3 of us ordered "medium rare" steak's. 2 fillet, 1 rump, All 3 came so over cooked they were genuinely hard to eat! We should have said at the time, but 1 of the party would have passed out with embarrassment, so we just eat it and moved on, it was a big bill and the steaks are not cheap! So the chef really should know how to cook them, the starters and other mains were ok, nothing amazing but nothing to complain about. We will be back for drinks, but wont eat here again. The staff were lovely as always. Just to add, their reply bellow asking me to get in touch with them did not amount to anything, I tried twice and did not hear anything back from them, looks like it was just a tactic to make it look like they wanted to make good on the matter when they clearly did not.

If you know what you're ordering, it's a spectacular experience. If you don't it can be a bit underwhelming. Best to sit at the bar to see some of the flame / smoke / bubble effects as it's made. I went with the missus and we had a delicious three course meal. We shared some chorizo filled cheese balls for starter and were very nice. It had an excellent flavour. For mains I had something with seafood all I can say it was absolutely delicious and you could taste the quality. The missus had the chicken and chips hen basket with a dip she said it was just what the doctor ordered. Desserts were exceptional with a sticky toffee pudding to share. We went to the bar for cocktails after we paid for our meal, I asked for a zombie and I must say it was revolting it was not very nice. We tried another couple of quite expensive cocktails and agreed that as much as they look nice, they didn't always taste the best. However I would definitely go back and try some more in the future.

Absolutely amazing, our visit to the Alchemist totally made our day. Originally there were no tables available so a barman pulled some seats up to the bar which was really welcoming, plus we were able to watch all the incredible cocktail making all night which was constant fun. Whilst making a drink the barman knocked over a jar of clear liquid which spilt on my dress, it was clearly an accident and no damage was done. He apologised straight away and called over a manager who offered to get my dress dry cleaned. I explained there wouldn't be a stain and it wasn't an issue so he gave us the first round for free, really above and beyond what I expected as simply some tissue to dry up would have been more than enough. The two young barmen kept us entertained and were happy to tell us about all the cocktails and how they were made, really friendly and chatty and always made sure we had drinks even though it was super busy! We absolutely will be back, we had an amazing time, thank you so much to the staff at the Alchemist!

Staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly, offering advice on drinks and friendly banter when needed. Drink selection is varied and changes fairly frequently, but with a wide variety of cocktails and spirits, the choices are near endless. The prices are a bit steep, however the atmosphere and environment justify the cost if you're feeling adventurous.

Not what it used to be. My partner and I have been here a few times before and had a lovely chat with the bar staff, who were always keen to chat about the different drinks and recommend options, even giving the occasional taster. Today, however, I have to say I was underwhelmed. The new menu was harder to understand and led to us ordering drinks that we weren't expecting. And, while they were enjoyable, the rapport with the staff was basically non-existent. It just felt like going to any other high end bar, where drinks are good but there is really no special USP. Overall, we feel the prices have gone up, while the quality has suffered.

It was ok. The food we had was good, but you do get the distinct impression that you are paying a lot more for the theatre they put on with a bit a dry ice and bubbles in your drink. Or for them turning battered fish black just to be quirky and zany. It's somewhere between a Frankie and bennies and the botanist wannabe. Service was good as was the food, just not sure what sort of restaurant they are trying to be. My recommendation- might as well try it once.

I booked a cocktail masterclass here. The staff have been amazing throughout. Very accommodating when booking, always helpful and very polite. The masterclass was fantastic and worth every penny. They got us all involved in a fun and interesting way. We all had a great experience. Aside from the masterclass this a great place to come for a drink. Comfortable surroundings and incredible drinks. Not your average cocktail bar. I highly recommend it!

Visited for the first time. Neither of us had been before so wasn't sure what to expect. Part of me expected it to be filled with pretentious folk and have a trendy food menu with nothing interesting on. I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was great, and the menu was spot on. Wonderful selection of foods from around the world. The cocktail menu seemed impressive and well displayed. I'm not a huge cocktail drinker so I opted for a beer. The beer selection wasn't quite as impressive but the small selection was adequate. We chose the Katsu Curry and Fajitas and respectively enjoyed them both.

We first fell in love with The Alchemist in London and now we make sure it's always on our list to go back to whenever we can! The Social #1 is perfect to share for lunch or a light dinner, which includes nachos, pulled pork croquets & tempura prawns (amongst other goodies!), however, if you are a vegetarian, the Social #2 also sounds delicious! Our favourite experience of the entire visit, was The Mad Hatters sharing cocktail, as it adds a bit of theatre - we had everyone in the restaurant staring at us!! The price of everything here is a little bit more than what you would pay for at a normal bar but absolutely worth it.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere! Great DJ spinning 90s classics while I was there inspiring patrons to get up and spontaneously dance around! Very cool drinks you may order from a menu constructed like a periodic table of the elements... clever! Prices are very reasonable, probably to entice patronage since I believe it is a newer establishment. You should definitely check it out. I recommend the chocolate orange sazerac!

A belated meal for Daz's birthday saw us here at 1pm on a Tuesday. He had an offer to get a free main course and got sea bass with spicy potatoes which was £14.50 and I had a duck wrap which was £9.50. I expected my meal to be deducted as it was the cheapest but no they took his 👏👏👍 very tasty. We had some fab olives for starter and extras of salt and pepper chips and mixed greens. Not a lot of beers mostly lager but he managed to get a Monument beer and I had an eye wateringly expensive large red wine £12.50....where's the fainting emoji?? That said we only paid £35 in total and had a great meal and good service

They where a bit dry on the inside which is why I give 4 stars. Drinks are good, fun and different The wings lovely on the outside just dry in the centre. Would still recommend.

The drink menu is a work of art. And so are the drinks. Beakers, syringes, pumps, flasks, and more are used to give every drink a fantastic, alchemical, and at times macabre aesthetic. The food too is sometimes enhanced with a bit of color or other tricks to give them a visual twist. They have AR drinks you can view with your phone camera. It's really an experience with having, and with lots of friends.

After been let down by George's Kitchen and leaving without being served as they forgot about us even though we were sat next to kitchen where staff passed regularly. Luckily The Alchemist saved the day! Welcomed by lovely staff who took us to our table, then a lovely young lady told us about the different cocktails, which were delicious. She also took our food order, which came fairly quick. My daughter and I both had Cajun halloumi burger and salt n pepper fries, very tasty. The young lady was very attentive and gave great service. We passed on the dessert as we were quite content but the options did look good and next time we will leave room to try. Definetly will return. Thanks guys!

Another Alchemist! Been to the Manchester one a few times and now they're open in Newcastle (and London) - just inside Eldon Square by the Monument entrance. Same olde science/pharmacy type theme with creative cocktails and the kind of food menu you always get in these new chain bars. Staff were a bit hit and miss with getting any service - there were more of them than there were customers but they were mostly having a laugh together... Nothing against that, but if you could occasionally swing by our table so we don't have to come and get you, that would be great. Otherwise pretty good drinks and food.

Desperately hip. Coffee in a glass is annoying - too hot to pick up until it's too cold to enjoy. Why do we need the bill tightly rolled in a bottle? It's irritating and unnecessary. Seating where a 6ft man can't reach the floor is too high. It's bad for your posture. You have good food, and good drinks, but I won't be back. You try too hard.
