Reviews of The Big Lamp Brewery
M. H.
Very warm welcome. Offered 2 course special menu and main menu. Opted for 2 course menu £8.95. Well worth the money. Tasty good size portions of food. Good selection to choose from. Would recommend.
M. K.
We visited today and would rate their Sunday lunch the best around!!! The quality of food was exceptional, portion size was generous, including meat, and the gravy was perfect. This, along with the excellent service and beautiful surroundings made the visit first class. Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend!!!
W. R.
Cannot rate this place high enough. They made me and my son feel so welcome on our trip up to watch Newcastle United.
Special mention has to go to Kieran, who went above and beyond to make my son feel welcome and as important a guest as me, and the lady (I didn't catch her name) who served our evening meals. They're an absolute credit to the business.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Newcastle area that doesn't wish to stay in the city.
We will 100% stay again when we next venture up for a match! See you all again soon.
J. M. F.
This is such a great traditional pub with expertly kept real ales. It feels like a proper community boozer with friendly staff and customers. Should be more of them-a rare find!
S. L.
Great little stop off on the wall walk - nice room and the bar was decent. Just make sure you know what time the bar shuts.
K. F.
Lovely setting, good food fabulous beer and a very warm welcome. What more could you ask for.
T. M.
We had a great stay at the big lamp brewery they have a great selection of cider and the staff are very friendly and we had a beautiful breakfast we will call again
I. I.
Good pint of ale. I had mince and dumplings for lunch the others in our group had soup and sandwiches. All very good.
s. w.
Lovely food lovely place. Waitress needs a uniform same as waiters they looked so clean and smart
R. A.
Great end point after a walk along the river. They've put their prices up recently.

Sunday lunch choices okay. Yorkshire pudding was disappointing. Good range of beers.
L. G.
Place is a bit dated but its clean and the staff are really lovely and very helpful. I would definitely stay again
d. h.
We had the beef filled scottie with chips and gravy ...it was very very nice sat out in their beer garden in superb sunshine
J. K.
Pleasant staff working in pleasant pub. Good coffee
.

This is a great pub with great beers. It does get very busy in the summer months, but there is plenty of outdoor seating. The food is great too, especially the Sunday roast dinners.
D. M.
1st visit...nice drop of cider..food looked good but not eat this time... staff were friendly so well be back.
M. M.
2.5 years since last time in and the beer and hot beef sarnies were as good as ever. Now that's consistency 👌👌 🍻🍻

We have always enjoyed our visits to the restaurant as the delicious meals have never disappointed us and the friendliness of the staff adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Though disappointed by the effects the Covid outbreak has had we were thrilled to learn that they are offering a take out service on meals and beer. Today we called by and collected beef dinners and beer and enjoyed every morsel after salivating all the way home in anticipation of the treat we were about to have. Thank you to George for being so helpful, we really appreciate it. Can't wait for the restaurant to open again so we can enjoy the lovely atmosphere once more.
R. T.
Great beers, lovely atmosphere. Staff are lush
D. M.
Great selection of beers as you would expect and good food too
a. M.
Great Breakfast excellent accomodations Helpful Staff unusual opening hours?
J. R.
Lovely setting, plenty of space to park and a choice of outdoor or indoor seating. Beer was spot on and the chicken and leek pie and fish and chips were very good. Service polite and timely. Value for money. 👍
J. T.
Hidden gem! Top place, well worth the visit.
S. C. H. C.
Beer was good although I think prices have gone up quite a bit Looking at the prices for the steak night it looked like a very inflated half price offer definitely not an offer I will take up
k. a.
Great pub with excellent choice of beers
J. M.
After a long walk at Newburn we popped in for a coffee, staff pleasant and service prompt so I would go back again
J. C.
Manager and bar staff are always extremely helpful. Good selection of beers, the gazebo was great today when it was raining. Thanks to the manager again for the service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
G. L.
Nice place to have a quick drink by the river. Chicken burger was nice. Beef sarnie has been hit and miss as sometimes good and other times full of fat and gristle.
A. D.
Stayed overnight at The Keelman last friday with breakfast the following morning after a friends wedding at Wylam Brewery. The room very clean & functional. The reception we recieved on arrival was just lovely...every member of staff greeting us, enquiring about our plans, extremely friendly & very helpful which added to our day! We were even offered a drink whilst waiting for our taxi. Would definately recommend here & we're thinking of coming back just for a night or two with friends. THANK YOU.
F. S.
Great place to go and fantastic location for families, cyclists (even a lockup for bikes), great food to suit everyone, on site brewery with a brilliant selection of beers which are reasonably priced...def. recommended and will use again...👍👍
D. A.
Lovely setting food ok nothing special could be so much better .Good choice of real ale if yr intrested in it
M. D.
Hasn't really changed since first visit 20 years ago, good to be acquainted again with a pint of Sunnydaze brewed onsite. Good pub food and really friendly staff. Won't leave it so long before going back for a beer
R. B.
OK pub, good beers, lots of outside space
G. G.
Really friendly staff, great choice of ales brewed on site and a lovely location.
J. G.
Good one way system in place and plenty of seating outdoors. The menu is limited but the food is great, really good burgers. Nice cycle along the river to get to it and you can go from there to wylam for a nice walk or cycle too. Great location for a day out.
J. H.
Have been visiting here since it opened. Fantastic beers and prices but lack of attention to toilets and cheap looking artwork on walls. The women's toilets needed a revamp about 10 years ago and it would be so easy to find local artists to provide some fresh decor. Defo a good place for a great pint of beer and good pub quiz!
k. k.
Toilets were a right mess, over look of the place wasnt good at all. Really run down and badly needing a lot of tlc. The staff however were really friendly.
A. M.
First trip out on the handcycles ( both wheelchair users) post lockdown and a couple of years since we had been to Newburn. Some mechanical problems and a puncture later we needed sustenance. Covid protocols meant that getting in to order would be tricky but a member of staff (Phil?) was happy to serve us their superb beer and chips in the carpark. He offered to bring a table to us (but it would have been more impractical for us). He also did not let us pay. A superbly kind gesture on a first trip out made us appreciate 'post-covid freedom' even more!
S. M.
Fabulous location ideal for a family day out walks cycling picnic...the Big Lamp Brewery has great food lovely bar staff
R. A.
Good beer reasonable prices
P. L.
Really lovely pub, beautiful garden lots of space for youngsters to play while you chill. Big car park. We didn't eat here this time but the food is really good. Polite, friendly staff.
J. B.
I have been here before a coupe of years ago . We were in the area and decided to stop by and have a drink and a bite to eat . Lovely pub and very tasty food . Staff very friendly .
Big outdoor seating area for sunny days and a nice big glass conservatory attached to the pub for your meals.
Recommended .
R. B.
Pleasent evening and a good night's sleep. Enjoyed the full English breakfast and all of the staff's helpful and cheerful attitude
M. J.
Food used to be terrible. Tried again after lock down. Expensive ..First 2 meals lovely ... proper chips.. 3rd changed the chips to oven fries very very poor...
L. h.
Had a nice meal here, good old traditional mince and dumplings and beef and ale pie. Fresh veg as well which is always a good sign and very welcoming. Will return on our next walk.
B. Z.
Nice food and beer selection, unfortunately not much to choose from for vegan/vegetarians. Great place to sit outside!
S. O.

Can't beat a shandy in the beer garden with the dog on a sunny day.
D. K.
Food was absolutely delicious and the strawberry cider well I had to get a take out. Thanks the staff there were great, couldn't fault them, thanks
A. J.
Lamb roast was tender and delicious but felt like it had been plated up and kept warm. Not quite what we had come to expect! I love this venue but on this occasion felt a little disappointed
A. D.

S. K.
The Keelman Brown is always a delight.
S. T. (.
Always been a favourite. The walk from the Keelman, over the Newburn bridge to Wylam and back is beautiful. The Keelman waiting at the end. Pint of Embers at the end is worth the sore limbs.
Oh and not to forget the fabulous Boathouse Wylam the 1/2 way point.
