Reviews of The Botanist Bar & Restaurant Newcastle

Food: 10/10
Cocktails: 10/10
Magic: 10/10
Service: 9/10
This establishment goes above and beyond for your dining and drinking experience. The food and drinks and presentation of said food and drinks are out of this world!
If you’re lucky enough to buy an interactive cocktail, it’s well worth the magical experience!
The food, again, blows other establishments out of the park. It’s all so delicious and beautifully presented. The only thing I would say is upsetting is the fact that it’s too hard to choose what to eat!
Definitely a one of a kind experience!
Would say to book in advance however as it’s extremely popular and very very busy. I think that due to it being so busy, it does affect customer service but not so much so that it detracts from your visit!
Absolutely recommend if you’re visiting Newcastle or looking for something new to try!

Fancied trying one of hese restaurants for a while, one is opening near us soon. Fromm he moment we stepped in the staff were very friendly and helpful. The meal we had was lovely, hanging skewers, the chicken was so tender and came off skewer so easily. I thought the decor was lovely especially as it got darker. Didn't have cocktails as too sweet for me. I have no reservations n recommending this place
B. R.
Newcastle is known to be friendly but the staff at this place take it to another level! The cocktails are great and goes well with the food. The restaurant interior is lovely and reminiscent of a birdcage.
C. V.
Really lovely place. Staff were so friendly and charming. Our starters were really good. Pea hummus is epic! Mains a bit disappointing. We had a hot board which was cold and we had to wait a long time for the food. It was nice but just warm. The chaps had the hanging kebabs which were good, but again, not really hot. But, without prompting they took the hot board off the bill and gave a discount of 20% for the lateness. So good it made up for it.

Staff where lovely and service was quick considering it was a Saturday! Cocktails where amazing and tasted lush. Bit difficult to find a seat but once we found one was amazing
D. T.
The bartender was nice, friendly and very quick. (I think he's Italian..not sure). We asked 2 alcohol free cocktail and the flavour was fantastic. Also the cake was nice.
K. S.
We couldn't fault this place, from start to finish they went the extra mile for a Saturday lunch date for sons birthday. Food was five star, service even better and a special thanks to out special waitress Stef. What an incredibly professional young lady, always there with a big smile.
K. B.
Great venue and lovely food and drinks for a get together and celebration. Buzzing atmosphere and got to hear some live music
T. k.
Great layout and design really liked the stairway to upstairs.and the landing following around the wall to over look the bar area, nice drinks.as usual

We had a fantastic time at the Botanist, the waiters did very well to serve 12 people. They repeatedly came by to ask if we wanted more drinks or food, not once did we have to go looking anyone to take our order. The drinks and food were great, most of us were very happy with our cocktails. Also, the venue was stunning, would definitely recommend you swing by.
C. S.
Another wonderful lunch at The Botanist in Newcastle… Chicken Hanging Kebabs for all of us! Staff in there do a fab job, we look forward to the next visit!! Highly recommend👍
C. N.
What a lovely place, almost a hidden gem really. From the outside seems aittlw non descript bit walk up the stairs and you are taken away to a secret garden. I was waiting for fairies and sprites to join the festivities at any moment. Gorgeous cocktail presentations, friendly staff and beautiful decor. This Canadian was wowed.
N. B.
Brilliant Service, great food, cocktails and good atmosphere.
We had the “birthday” menu but wasn’t short changed in terms of quality or quantity.
Thank you to Ellie, who made us the fantastic doggy bag - really made our special family meal something to remember - a fantastic member of staff 😀😀
R.
I absolutely loved the interior and the vibe of the place with the live band playing, however it was extremely loud which made it impossible to hear anyone talking, the food took ages to arrive and the quality was average to say the least, the burger was very dry (do not recommend).
j. t.
Lovely position for a great view from the window next to our table.
The hanging kebabs were brilliant.
Would recommend it as a must visit.
A. D.
I only went for evening drinks, so didn't sample the food. The drinks were very nice and we're made very quickly. There was live music, which was a nice surprise, but we had to shout to have a conversation. Luckily there was only two of us. It was also a little bit cold. The main thing to improve would be to turn down the speakers so we could be heard without loosing our voices.
D. W.
An absolute amazing place to visit and have a drink. The views are magnificent.
V. H.
Lovely place to dine or have a few sophisticated drinks. Staff are lovely, service can be slow at times but it is always busy. Not the cheapest of places but the food is excellent and they have a good variety of speciality drinks/cocktails so worth the money for the experience and ambiance. Amazing views too.
B. '.
Very delicious food in a cosy and well decorated ambience. The turkey xmas hanging kebab was nice tho the turkey was a tad dry. The cocktails were yummy (esp. The sage one) and desserts was scrumilicious ( a bit too sweet tho). Recommend
D. L.
Talented bar staff, fab cocktails and tasty food! Also the decor is stunning!
D. C.
First time here. Lush drinks, very friendly staff. Excellent service. Great ambient feel. Pineapple 🍍 mojito delish! Stunning views
C. H.
Friendly staff and tasty kebabs. Enjoyed the hit sharing board as a starter. Imoressive Dome and nice ambience overall. Music was too loud for us and the waiters.

10/10 - Amazing Decor, Service and Team
An absolute must visit when in Newcastle! Gorgeous decor and even better food and drinks! Try the Cheery & Strawberry Cocktail! The team couldn't have been more accommodating, thank you Cameo and Natalie.
A. T.
Love this beautiful place. Food and drink menu cater to all and everything looks and tastes amazing
M. C.
Booked here for her indoors’ borthday, lovely venue and the staff were very friendly. The food was unbelievable, pork crackling starter was to die for and a main of seabass which was also unbelievable. I pre booked the table and a birthday cocktail which was a lovely little touch to our evening, just a nice place to go if you want decent bait and some good cocktails.
J. G.
Great atmosphere, chilled staff, great food and also live music. Great location as well. Will come back again for sure
j. M.
I walked in one day but I couldn’t get inside as I dint book the table . Such a busy place . I was upset but then I booked the very next day . Wow I was so excited. They divide into two category as bar and restaurant. I booked for restaurant. I tried hot board . Chicken ..good quantity and quality . This place gave me beautiful memory . one of the best place to go . Beautiful setup, spacious, tasty food..
A. L.
Had an evening meal here on Thursday and it was fabulous ...the staff we encountered were so friendly even though they were so busy and the food was excellent
L. H.
Ambiance is very lovely and prices are okay. I think they put a little bit too much of ice in the cocktails…
D. J. D. L. R.
A special place in New Castle, the decoration is very original and cozy and the service very friendly
C. C.
I have never been here before and when we got there it was really busy but our table was ready so no worries there. The staff are really friendly and the food was gorgeous. I had hanging chicken kebab with sweet chilli chips, delicious.
C. R.
Great atmosphere, lovely food, good selection of drinks and cocktails, and helpful friendly staff. Good covid measures in place. Really enjoyed it.
G. l.
From where to start. Interior is extremely beautiful. Clean , spaces between tables, so you don't feel squeezed.
Staff always with a smile.
Prices are cheap regarding the size of the portion and the quality of the food.
Will go back soon.
B. G.
Great food and cocktails. The service was fantastic, attentive and friendly. Thank you!
J. B.
We all know the venue is beautiful, and the food and drinks never disappoints, but the staff are by far the best asset, we had a huge group to accommodate and the staff were amazing, literally couldn’t complain about a thing.
S. J.
Staff were very helpful & friendly. Food was lovely we had the hanging chicken kebab and the salt & pepper onion petals. Cocktails were amazing also. Decor is beautiful & its a big place with a lot of seating.
M. d. V.
Food, drinks are really good. But this venue is all about the location and the design which are epic . A really cool concept. A shame that the music at night won't make you stay.
K. G.
This place is beautiful and have great views. Having a drink there while listening to some live music on a Sunday afternoon is glorious.
I didn't know this was a restaurant as well! This place is perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was delicious and the service fast as very attentive.
D. C.
A trendy, upmarket bar and restaurant with a good selection of food and cocktails. Dinner portions were generous, and the chicken paella was my favourite. Food prices are good value, but drinks were a little bit pricey (and no weeknight specials).
N. R.
Nice friendly service at a great City centre venue.
M. J.
Stunning bar in a great location, at the top of Grey street next to Grey’s monument.
It’s a split level bar. The bar in the lower level in located beneath an impressive glass dome and has a tree growing from it.
The selection of cocktails, spirits and beers is amazing. Typical price per cocktail / double is around £8.
The main bar has relaxed live music normally comprising of a singer accompanied by guitars. Relaxed and not in your face. Plenty of space to sit and stand.
There’s also places to sit down and relax with friends for a meal.
The upstairs is accessed via a spiral staircase. Upstairs comprises of of an internal seated area for food and drink and an external area with its own bar and great views down Grey Street. It can be colder up here, however, you can get served quicker.
The bar staff are friendly, helpful and the ball, even as they serve up multiple rounds of drinks for different folk.
Hope you enjoy the bar !
Btw, if you can’t face walking up the stairs to access the bar, well you can take the lift.
H. B.
Always a personal favorite every time I come into town!!!. I love this place. Ultra modern, beautiful, very very elegant and very spacious. I love how the bar is nestled into a very large tree which is covered in lights. The decor is amazing g and with cocktails to die for!!!. So many to choose from!!!!!. Cocktails here are served and mixed with a large array of botanical fresh herbs and chillies. Try the Thai chilli crush!, very refreshing and good for a hangover!. Spread over 2 huge levels there is a good outdoor seating area in the upper level with outstanding views of the city with a bar outside too so you don't have to move far!. This place attracts visitors from far and wide because of its elegance and style. Always busy but definitely worth going. If you have never been before this place is a must when visiting Newcastle.
R. M.
Stopped in for a meal with my girlfriend on a weekend getaway. Really romantic setting and the food was amazing. The pork belly hanging kebab is a must. Very reasonable price wise. Good selection of Beers and the cocktails looked amazing (a lot of theatre with the making). Definitely worth a visit.
A. “. R.
Wonderful place to have a few drinks. Beautiful decor, fantastic atmosphere and stunning views down grey street from the top floor. Cocktails and spirits are pricey but drinks on draught aren't too bad. Definitely a place to go at least once!
G. T.
Nice Long Island Ice Tea. Friendly staff. 10/10
m. r.
Had the chicken wings and was amazed at how good they were ! Very nice take on the sweet chilli sauce with a ginger infusion. Cocktail was good too and the restaurant itself is very nice looking. Great service and good implementation of Covid rules that kept us feeling safe and comfortable. Restaurant very clean. No faults at all. Priced well.
J. C.
Food was great, it seemed quite quiet but the service was fairly slow. Might have been an off day as people rave about this place.
L. R.
Booked a table for food online prior to visiting as it can get busy. We were seated straight away on arrival and staff were attentive. Good food and drinks
T. u.
This is a fun bar, I put all the lighting in the dome if you look up you will see our work.
The stings and food served here are very fancy from smoking cocktails to crazy tapas combos.
A great place to chill with a group of friends.
It's loud and lively I do recommend although it is also pricey you can expect to be paying upwards of 10 pounds a drink if your ordering from the cocktail list.
K. F.
Fab cocktails that are not like any other. Flavours are so different but lovely. Location right next to metro and has an amazing view of Newcastle city centre from the roof terrace. Worth a visit but don’t expect quick service as cocktails take a while to make. Live music too, good atmosphere.
G. B. R.
We were a little disappointed as we came for a birthday celebration
Almost everything we ordered on the limited Christmas menu wasn’t available and we ended up leaving without eating here, So why 5 stars ?
The staff were super friendly and really apologetic, It’s understandable that a lot of deliveries are disrupted due to Covid and staff shortages won’t help. We had already ordered our drinks and were given these on the house, they didn’t have to do that.
We’ll definitely go back sometime soon
J. H.
A great restaurant and bar overlooking the monument mall. Good selection of food and drinks and excellent wait staff. Make sure to book in, even a Tuesday night was busy.
If you're brave enough there's a drink served in a watering can, but there's something on the menu for everyone. Plenty of vegetarian options too.
I. M.
We had dinner on Halloween night. The place is really beautiful, love it. The food was great and so the environment.
However, something I did not like at all was the guard of the main door. He just told us that we couldn't enter dressing our costume because there was a kind of a dress code and going like I was going wasn't allowed, but that he was going to make an exception for this night. Are you kidding me? It's halloween! Thank you for letting us enter all dressed up! Obviously I don't wear these clothes on a regular basis... It was rude and unnecesary and if you are gonna let us enter to the venue just don'g say anything, It is Halloween, com'on, chill! Other than that we will come back.
B. T.
We came exclusively for the cocktails. Haven't tried the food but it looked great. The cocktails were amazing, nice and strong with a huge variety of different types. They all have a unique botany spin on them, like the cinammon and oregano old fashioned or the blueberry and passion fruit martini. Prices are oddly displayed in pence and you may be paying £10 a drink but it's worth it.
They also have a huge selection of craft beers from around the world for the beer enthusiast. It has a very modern but also rustic feel, with a huge sycamore tree in the centre which didn't look out of place at all. Bar staff were well trained and very friendly and don't mind stirring some ice in your cocktail for fifteen minutes. Will be going back!
P. S.
Was unsure on what we were going to expect off past reviews. Main points being bad service etc.
We were soon seated, booked in advance, and we had 3 courses along with 3 rounds of drinks. Was in and out in 90 minutes, great service and food was brilliant
T. E. G.
A beautiful place to have a drink or two for a reasonable price. An excellent bar staff makes proper cocktails in an impressive and professional manner. Can't wait to come back again and try their food.
j. b.
Took advantage of a deal to have a tour up top of Grey's Monument with a 3 course meal here plus glass of bubbly for £40..... and enjoyed every second! Up lots of stairs from entrance ( there is a lift) to a smiling warm welcome from staff. After our tour we were taken to table and quickly brought our bubbly and chose from good choice menu. Calamari, Chinese pork and choc/pineapple pot for me and soup, chicken on skewer and sticky toffee pud for him. All delicious and well presented. Lovely atmosphere with lots of amazing views over the city and interesting knick knacks everywhere. There was a girl singing and playing the piano who was great- excellent version of Rhiannon👍 will return for a G & T soon and hopefully sit in outside space- esp as promised one after doing review! 😄
K. S.
Absolutely loved this place. Amazing interior! We received a warm welcome and had a fantastic waitress. Our food was delicious, as well as the drinks. When I'm back in Newcastle, I'm coming back for sure! Thanks!
J. L.
We had a lovely lunch here, food was delicious and they have a good variety of drinks. Our pre booked table as 20 minutes delayed and we felt a little rushed at times which is my reason for 4 stars but I will definitely return and try some of the other dishes
C. C.
Gem of a place. Buzzing, lively atmosphere with a twist on everything...the location, the design theme and taking well established dishes and putting a different slant on them such as Camembert rounds baked inside the bread and hanging kebabs. We went with good friends and loved it. Easy to recommend.
K. H.
Decent enough place. Looking a little tired now. Could do with a refurb or a v good clean. Seats for example filthy. Staff friendly enough- although only 1.serving at bar whilst other 2 stood talking
t. a.
I have to give 5.5 star if allow, don’t under estimate the entrance, is fabulous inside after you climb 53 step stairs if you not choose using the lift. Lighting environment green island bar deco tempted. Don’t forget to visit the roof terrace. Food cook with heart.
D. R.
Delicious food and drinks with a plenty veggie/vegan options. Great atmosphere and service. Highly recommended!
J. C.
Went here last night for a family meal, on entering it was like being transported into a magical fairy world with all the beautiful lights and decor. Breathtaking.
Music was spot on every song that was played was great everyone singing to the music, never played one bad song. The food was fantastic, I had pigs in blankets for starter and for main the famous hanging basket kebabs, I had chicken that was to die for.
Dessert was raspberry frangipane with dairy free ice cream, utterly delicious. Everyone in my family thoroughly enjoyed their food and their experience here. Staff are lovely to nothing is to much.
If you are thinking of visiting here please do you won’t be disappointed.
L. B.
Nice surroundings and good vibes.
A good spot for a casual drink, we didn’t eat here but visited for cocktails on Friday night. We booked in advance due to COVID. Ordering was easy through the website and service was speedy and pleasant.
4 stars due to the fact we were a little disappointed with the cocktails on offer, they were nice but nothing hugely exciting.
L. A.
Great food and atmosphere. Had live music too and they were great.
Really enjoyed and service was excellent!
N. W.
Great food.amd choice of drinks. Lovely attentive staff who are a credit to the franchise. Really enjoyed our visit and we would definitely return. Well done.
A. L.
One of my favorite places in the city. Beautiful deco. Both drinks and food are good
E. W.
Great staff and even better cocktails!!!
Such a cool quirky vibe!!!!
B. R.
Beautiful place, great live music, brilliant atmosphere! Staff are so friendly and work so fast!
L. S.
I had a really great experience at this place about a year ago with friendly and efficient service. Which made me want to come here again! However since then I had been to the one in Leeds Trinity where I had really poor service as we had to ask to order drinks and food after numerous tables around us being served before us.
This time in Newcastle we were seated at 8:05 and waited until 8:35 until we had to ask them to take our drinks order. Another 10 mins came and we had not received our drinks nor been asked for food so we asked a waiter and told them our problem about their service by which Emma came and saved our experience. She was extremely helpful and efficient. Chased up the drinks which were lovely and took the food order. Emma was great and saved this from being an even worse review. However the food was very tasty and good value for money.
A. A.
Absolutely amazing atmosphere , food and drinks looked great but sadly couldn't find a space to sit down.
Will return in the future ♥
H. W.
Thank you to the botanist for a lovely table service, the lamb was a little tough but the meal overall was very well presented and we'll seasoned.
J. d.
Very popular venue it seems. We visited on a Saturday and it was very busy but there was a steady flow of people just having one or two drinks and moving on. The bar staff were very friendly and professional. Cocktails were made fresh and very well. Lovely old building and great atmosphere. Lots of stairs to get up or take the lift! Well worth a visit.
R. J.
Amazing dining experience , very friendly staff . will be back
K. W.
Beautiful setting, good music and great service. Food was delicious, I just knocked off a star as we went twice and they'd run out of our favourite pudding (sticky toffee!!)
S. H.
Would come back time and time again for the food and the atmosphere. Lovely place and friendly people. I think about the halloumi hanging kebabs all the time! Cant wait to come back during my next visit to Newcastle 😊🥳
C. C.
Just loved this place. Bar upstairs is open air, with many fancy wee hidey-holes. Beer isn't cheap, but definitely make an effort. It's a beautiful place to chill out.
H. W.
My fave place in Newcastle for cocktails...only had chips there so can't comment about the food but it always looks good...the place is absolutely beautiful inside and has gorgeous views of grey street and the surrounding area. It's a very cute instagrammable spot which can get busy at times. I have been visiting for years...and I'm quite happy to go there alone.
M. L.
Absolutely beautiful, really really nice staff, lovely pint of Moretti ,will continue going back .
K. S.
Small door, then up loads of stairs (Or lift) opens up in to a huge place. Inside is beautiful and stunning tree/bar. It seems a little chain like in menu and operation but the decorations are worth it. Big plus was marked allergens on each meal. Staff Very friendly and were professional.
G. F.
Great place to take some beers or eat. Fabolous ambiance, live music and a large selection of national and international beers and cocktails. The meal for lucnh or dinner is quiet good too.
S. S.
Had a lovely day and a big thank you to our waiter Jake
D. B.
Went here last night for the first time, blown away, this place has a luxury feel without the snobbish touch, also the food and drinks are phenomenal without the upper class price tag. Would recommend to anyone and everyone, try it out for something a bit different and special!
J. W.
Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, lovely food, slightly on the expensive side but worth it!
J. B.
Me and 5 others went here yesterday.
Food was amazing and not too expensive.
100% suggest the flatbread, thankfully I definitely orderd it and had zero complaints.
L.
Came here without a reservation and was seated next to a beautiful window seat where i could ciew the monument. The staff were excellent, great hospitality, polite and helpful. We took our time ordering the food but when we ordered the hanging chicken and steak kebabs the meal came in a wonderful display. I got to poor the garlic oil from the top of the kebab to nicely stream down the kebab and land on my chips. Great display and lovely food for a excellent price! Extremely Satisfied!
K. R.
The botanist is a nice chain with delicious food however this one is extremely loud, more of a bar type atmosphere in terms of the music volume, even at 4pm
B. M.
Very cool bar with great live music and superb cocktails! The roof terrace was closed but it's also very cool!
S. B.
Gorgeous decor, lovely staff and reasonable prices. Definitely a place to visit for cocktails
G. K.
It is a cozy place with nice vibes, unique decoration , perfect to have a night cocktail or some afternoon coffee.
C. C.
The Botanist can be a delightful place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Although it's up several flights of stairs there is a lift. The very pleasant interior has a botanical theme, which gives customers the feeling of sitting in an elaborate garden summer house, very relaxing. The window tables have amazing views of Grey's Monument and the streets leading off. Here you can sit and watch the world below rush by. Good tasty food and exciting drinks menu. Just a word of caution, it's very popular so can be extremely busy, then it's not quite as relaxing.
S.
Great place for cocktails. Looking forward to trying the food here at some point too.
K. R.
A little bit expensive for my taste but it's downtown. Incredibly aesthetic place with immaculate service.
V. D.
The food is certainly good enough, but it's the venue itself that makes this place really worth a visit. Like a secret garden cleverly stacked on top of the mall, with a huge glass dome and a great view on Newcastle. Best call for a reservation, because it's popular, and with good reason.
D. S.
Loved the atmosphere as well as the food. They were accommodating for our son (age 10)in the restaurant area, and the live band was enjoyable. For visiting Americans, I would describe this place as Anthropologie turned into a restaurant/bar/club. Would definitely go back!
Z. H.
Presentation is very good, menu design is good with sketches and images on their cocktail menu to give you an idea what to expect. The food was nice some of the portion sizes seemed odd for their respective prices and menu description. The cheesy garlic bread starter is priced right but it's a whole loaf of bread and is on the rather larger size for a starter, which I enjoyed as I can eat a lot but I can imagine it can be off putting for some. In contrast the camembert starter is listed as sharer but is no larger just with double the price tag because of the premium cheese. Some the of the dishes the meals were served in were a bit questionable such as a garden troul and just seemed a bit unnecessary.
As for mains we all went for the hanging kebabs which were a bit of a novelty swinging around the table. The main courses were good but nothing special and were let down by the dry chips, the staff were very nice although very busy. Overall it's a nice atmosphere and has good attention to detail but the food isn't quite on par to match unfortunately.
D. D.
Always a great experience at the botanists. Their hanging kebabs are always a show piece and their drinks are amazing!
H.
The botanist always seems to bag the best locations. This was by far the best I've seen. Wish I lived closer so I could visit all the time...gorgeous atmosphere and surroundings. Really enjoyed the live music as well. Took a while to get served for cocktails at the bar and not a lot of bar seating if only going for drinks
T. K.
Nice food. Waited for our bill for over 15min, felt like there's KPI linked to guests time in.
C. A.
Great building. Lovely atmosphere inside and on the terrace. Friendly service.
K. R. S.
Beautiful place, good service and amazing food! Just the chicken kebab it wasn't tasty, not salt at all and chicken really dry but the presentation of the plate is really impress 👌🏻
L. E.
Absolutely fantastic place! Great, huge selection of beers and ales - my partner had an Orval and a Chimay Blue. The cocktails were brill too - I had the peach one to begin with (the name escapes me) and then the Botanist. Atmosphere and overall ambience is fab - we enjoyed playing cards in here!
J. F.
Unique atmosphere, perfect to impress on a date. Cocktails are certainly unique but expensive. Food was good.
m. s.
Stunning interior amazing food and the whole concept is really worth visiting!! I highly recommend !!
Y. K. N.
Came in to stay warm. Very chilled vibes and love the fact that there's regular live music. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
j. b.
Great food and drinks with a unique decor, with a terrace overlooking greys monument. Quiet on daytime's through the week but on a weekend you'll probably be lucky or be prepared to wait to get a table/seat. That shouldn't make you stay away though it's a great bar with a good choice of drinks and if you get a table for food it's definitely recommend. The vegan choices, which fit with my dietary preferences, are definitely recommended. Totally worth a 5 star review ❤️
L. P.
Lovely decorative bar, great drinks, the dry ice ones are amazing! The atmosphere was so relaxed, live music as well was a lovely touch. Loved it!
B. M.
Lovely bar, not cheap, but the best view of Grey's Monument and Grey Street of any bar. Worth a visit just for the view.
W. W.
A Sunday dinner visit which we had made a reservation for, we arrived earlier but were seated straightaway on what appeared to be a busy rugby magic weekend. Took a while to be seen but once ordered the food came out quickly. I had the beef which was really good, the wife went lamb however she advised it was slightly over. Cleaned plates, good view for people watching - would return.
B. C.
Great location and view , very original decor and surroundings and the food was delicious aswell. The staff were great, very attentive !
S. V. K.
Walked in and fell in love with the place and the way it's been designed. The house cocktails were really good and difference from the usual menu items. Didn't get time to enjoy a main course but the appetizers were grand. Loved it.
D. P.
Nice dinner, good service! Grate place to eat. Thank you.
S. R.
Weekday night wasn't too busy. Stayed for food which was great and the service was friendly. Would recommend.
P. L.
Lovely food. First time there was not what I was expecting. Nice to look out onto Grey's Monument.
m.
great food and incredible service and very accomodating. had run out of a few menu options but there were plenty of things left.
G. R.
What a spot. i would recomend this place to anyone for food or a night out. very good. live music on in the evenings and fantastic coctails
J. S.
Restaurant experience made by the excellent service given by waitress Sky. She displayed a thorough knowledge of drinks available, types and abv, as well as detailed knowledge of food when asked. A cheery disposition with nothing too much trouble. Yes the venue is great and the food similarly so but staff like Sky make an evening's meal with friends even more pleasant and memorable.
L. G.
Lovely food and great cocktails. Really liked the live music as well.
D. B.
Warning, there are a few stairs to get in. Take the lift if your a lazy so and so like me.
Lovely place, tried a cocktail of the menu and they were happy to make one the misses found on google too.
Most probably pop along again sometime (using the lift) and try another cocktail.
H. p.
First time. Nice. Hanging kebab..Nice. wasn't the best I've had wasn't the worst either. Place itself is lovely. The flatbreads had way too much cumin on..over powering. Friendly staff. Might try a burger next time. We sat upstairs which gave good views. Pleasant evening.
M. C.
Food was canny.
Service was great.
Music was a little too loud.
Altogether a nice place.
S. S.
Hidden gem. Amazing cocktails, food and atmosphere. There is no other asthetic bar like the Botanist 👌
L. M.
Awesome setting!! Interior is v cool. Great atmosphere. Had the halloumi kebab, see pic -highly recommend. (Sticky toffy pudding was only so-so). I had a delish elderflower mocktail which was really tasty and refreshing though.
Great spot for just drinks, or dinner or both! Didn't have any alcoholic cocktails but they looked epic!
J. T.
Very nice, very pleasant staff the lamb and mint pie was delicious. The Neck oil beer also very nice while I had heard of it I had never tried it before. The sticky toffee pudding was really rather nice as well.😀😁
Yep I can definitely recommend the Botanist restaurant.
D. W.
The atmosphere is nice and the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive, however the quality of food and the drinks in this place has declined over the years to the point that I'd say they are now average but with a high price tag.
T. J.
Really nice venue good choice of drinks ,we ordered food but the main course was very slow to come out, which impaired the quality of the prawns
S. M.
Up a fair few flights of stairs but worth persevering as fabulous bar with some great architecture and frature globe roof
J. O.
As ever with most of the Botanists we been to, quality, busy and interesting and lovely food.
M. H.
Lovely food and nice cocktails. Not too badly priced for town
V. E.
Amazing food. Loved the atmosphere. Our waitress (Pippa) was very friendly and efficient. We had the meat board and a couple of other starters to share and everything was amazing, bar the little chicken kebabs, which were a bit dry. The pork crackling was crispy, the baked Camembert was mouth watering lyk good.
S. T.
We visited your establishment for lunch few days ago . We were group of 10 people. Find very enjoyable experience throughout. Excellent menu and terrific price. Even though it was newcastle week. Delicious food excellent service definitely be back. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.
S. H.
Really great place for food and drink in Newcastle. Well worth a visit!
A. Z.
Everytime we're in town we come here and the food is ace. We had the steak sandwich and the butternut squash pie, as well as desserts. Every dish comes out in a reasonable time, so if you're hungry, that's a plus. Staff here are really friendly, except the management can be a bit dismissive, so stick with your server
Don't forget to order loads of drinks and the cookie dough dessert!
R. R.
Nice atmosphere for drinks and food. Presentation is great as well. Can be a bit crowded at times.
T. J.
Best hanging kebabs in toon!
We visited here for my surprise birthday meal and it did not disappoint. Very pretty bar/restaurant and gorgeous food too. I had the halloumi kebab which was delicious. Can’t wait to go back.
A. E.
Goid dj& decent service but too coupley & tad expensive
J. D.
A picturesque pub with a tree in the middle. Fantastic cocktails themed around botany, and a great selection of beer and spirits. The food is also delicious. A tad on the expensive side so be prepared to fork out at least £9 for a cocktail and £4 for a beer.
P. L.
Very nice place with amazing tree and good food. Very pleasant.
M. H.
Service was good. Food reasonable but the curry was so spicy that you couldn't taste it
K. L.
Great atmosphere, good food and nice
Staff.
B. F.
Me and my partner visited the botanist for our 3 year anniversary and didn't really know any of the drinks and our waiters helped and advised us of some drinks and it was the best drink I've ever had! Shout-out to Frazer and Ellie, they were amazing waiters and the kebabs were amazing
x. c.
I like the lightings up there! It makes the environment so dreamy and the drinks there is definitely worth the price. Trust me, you won't find another amazing bar like this in Newcastle City Centre.
K. M.
Great place. Interior design is unique. They do acoustic live gigs. There's a second floor with with a separate bar at a roof seating where smoking is allowed.
M. B.
Had lunch here recently with three friends. The meal was delicious and our waiter was so nice and attentive.
J. S.

Perfect food, fabulous cocktails, and an amazing view of Newcastle all in one place. Service was also great. 100% recommend.
M. C.
One of my favourite places in Newcastle... lovely food, drinks, and atmosphere!
T. K.
Exciting venue. Great drinks and bar service. Super atmosphere. Diners seemed to be enjoying their meals we only visited for drinks, but we will be back!
D.
Super venue. We had dinner. Food was OK. Lamb koftas on vertical skewer bit dried up, chose this thinking they could not over cook a kofta as chicken often is. Staff were excellent.
J. T.
Would have been a 5 star but a lot of drinks not available due to stock issues.
S. W.
Lush food friendly waiter's....the front of house staff member was a sour faced trout tho
P. R.
Great views over the town. The kids get special treatment. Good selection of food to cover all price ranges well presented.
L. A.
Great place for a cocktail or two.
S. C.
One of the best place I have ever been. Great building with amazing furniture. Had only a drink so I can't review food.
L. M.
Lovely menu food was beautiful and a nice portion size for a lunchtime. Halumi hanging kebab was really nice. Staff friendly and leave you to get on with your meal without abandoning you. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town.
N. H.
Great mocktails and cocktails too, beautiful decor and great views of the city
J. A.
This is a really nice place to meet friends and for couples. Eating and drinks in a fabulous Newcastle venue. Good range of quality beers and well prepared cocktails.

Nice building, great cocktails, good choice of ales and beers
P. C.
Great ambiance and service. The cocktails are always great and the beautiful surroundings only add to the experience.

P. T.
Came here as we got a gift voucher as a present. Food was great and a good selection of drinks. Some of the gins/cocktails etc are a bit expensive.
O. Q.
Food was passable, nothing special but it does look nice inside.
B. P.
Great atmosphere, great food, great staff.
J. A.
Excellent. I had the creamy mushrooms and the pork belly hanging kebab and both were spot on. Cost very reasonable given the quality of food. Also live entertainment was very good.
S. D.
Amazing atmosphere, lovely surroundings and the cocktails were to die for
W. P.
Great Kebab's, chicken very tender. Service excellent, Sam the waiter very friendly

Very good experience, I think it is very nice and well suited place with people who have been trained very well, just to try!!!
M. W.
Always love the Botanist Newcastle and that hasnt changed at all. Shown to the table and was met by a really pleasant helpful server. The food was just as I was expecting and as it was a meal for my birthday then we weren't disappointed. My fav cocktail was bot on the lust but was brought to me anyway. So happy that things are getting back to normal and I'll be back
Z. G.
Brilliant cocktail making class for friends hen doo. Really accommodating, friendly and relaxed. Beautiful place
T. M.
Chilling out at Botanist
Top of the building so grey monument stands at the front.
If you would like to get the table nearby the window Newcastle topview 👍 I recommend to book the table
The night environment is different from day time both are very warm. I recommended chic cocktail in antique bar. Live music performs at night.
Food is great espacially hanging kebab yummy

Really characteristic place! Amazing tree inside and nice cocktails and live music!

Went for a 21st birthday party. Food was superb with an excellent vegan choice. Cocktails to die for and a superb view over the city centre.
A. D.
Good food but waitress steph outstanding a credit to you 😊 x
M. C. B. A.
Excellent place, most impressive service & food and absolutely beautiful!!!
P. J.
Super cool Atmophere and dining to match, even in the daytime Stopped in and was a great place to relax a reasonable walk from the train station. If you're traveling during the day, stop for a meal when it isn't busy and hail a cheaper taxi later away from the station, win-win!
P. M.
Excellent, 1st time and the food was superb, staff 10/10.
Definitely recommend, definitely going back.
s. j.
Great cocktails and nice food, food is quite well priced for the quality
K. K.
One of the coolest places in the Toon. Absolutely beautiful! Bare in mind that restaurant gets booked quickly, and make reservation well in advance to avoid disappointment.
D. C.
Lovely place but a bit over priced and service is slow due to everyone ordering cocktails.
D. B.
Food was lovely, gin cocktail in watering can was good, could have probably done with more gin though.
P. E.
Fantastic setting and atmosphere with freindly staff and a good selection of drinks.
H. P.
Lovely cocktails.. perfect place for a girly afternoon!
T. (.
I love The Botanist. It always has many different draft and craft beers. The atmosphere is always nice with it's attractive decor and furniture. Give it a try!
S. W.
Good balance between restrictions and enjoying the openness of the bar. Roof terrace is as cool as ever with great views down past the Monument with covered areas and blankets for dealing with our wonderful UK weather
R. P.
Excellent cocktails, decent price, nice ambience
T. Z.
Great service, different experience, beautiful presentation and lovely atmosphere.
W. O.
Lovely bar, great selection of beers, cocktails and food.
c. h.
A place you must go to If your in Newcastle, great views down grey street
S. T.
Was such a beautiful place with AMAZING food! Definitely worth the money! (Although I definitely got it half price because of the government scheme). Have been before though and they definitely live up to a high standard. There was a super helpful and kind waitress called Megan too, she for sure deserved recognition, she was amazing!
R. J.
A great bar with a nice selection of drinks and amazing staff
T.
Simply amazing, Food, drinks and service was excellent and especially Jake who took care of us, always on hand to make sure if we needed anything and made my wife's birthday lunch enjoyable, Thank you so much.

The food and drinks here were fantastic. The menu offered a great variety and both the food and drinks were unique and quirky.

Amazing food and beautiful environment! Live music is really good. Oh and they serve lovely floral-themed cocktails as well!
P. S.
Nice place decent sitting areas inside and out , good staff

Unreal cocktails, pure and simply

I stopped here for quick drink and came back for dinner, really good atmosphere with seating on two levels going around the bar and some seating outside on the upper level giving a great view of the city.
K. M.
Lovely atmosphere quiet early on so great for an after work drink or catch up with friends. Service very friendly and inviting.
A. C.
Fabulous food and gorgeous cocktails.
j. p.
Great food, friendly waiting staff
G. H.
Stylish bar right in the heart of Newcastle. Cocktails were good and includes a lovely outdoor area, overlooking the city upstairs. Would recommend!
A. D.
Great bar, lovely surrounds and atmosphere. Expensive but a great experience
M. H.
Bloody amazing food , live music and environment... loved it all ...
C. B. (. m.
Our table wasn't as set out as other areas ie Bath for example where all is set circled around the tree. We did walk past to use the ladies though. My daughters drink came with a shrivelled peice of peel too in her last drink.
B. R.
Great service and a good selection of areas to dine and drink. Head for the roof terrace - even if you're scared of heights! it's secure, with a great view but loads of fresh air! The pink gin punch cocktail is gorgeous.
B. S.
Excellent food in beautiful surroundings
F. W.
Nice atmosphere, nice drinks and fantastic band performance!
M. C.
Lovely food and drinks. Live music by a talented guitarist. So much fun.
C. H.
Excellent food and venue. It is an expensive chain, but quality and atmosphere is amazing.
J. K.
Absolutely lovely place especially on the terrace when there is nice weather. Great drinks, prices are not bad when I take into account that it's in the centre.
S. S.
Cool surroundings.
Food was a little well done, my partners burger bun was beyond crispy...we thought it was just a serving style so didn't complain, and plus it was a small thing really in the scheme of things. Lol
Server was lovely and good selection of beers and ciders.
K. S.
Drinks aren't cheap but the place is lovely to visit and worth a look in. Also had a live band when we visited which was nice, will definitely return!
J. S.
Our favourite bar in Newcastle! We've been going to The Botantist for years and have never had a bad visit. Cocktails are great although quite pricey. Good atmosphere and quick service. The measures they have taken to adhere to social distancing also made us feel at ease.
P. A.
Very pleasant atmosphere any time of the day. Great meals and great selection of drinks all served with a flare and design aspect to them. Well designed room with a roof terrace fitted with heat lamps and extra bar area. Live music on most occasions is played which adds to an already entertaining atmosphere.
G. C.
Love the ambience! It's such a lovely place with a wide range of foods and drinks. The food also tasty. A place that you must visit if you're in Newcastle.
I. F.
A properly themed bar and restaurant, no expense spared. The cocktails cost a fortune but we'll worth the experience. I felt at home 🌳
T. E.
We had a champagne lunch with hanging kebabs. Good food as usual and helpful staff. The place had is usual ambiance and charm too.
P. T.
Stunning venue with friendly staff. Food mediocre for price, beer arrived warm and flat.
K. B.
Great decor and delicious cocktails.
S. L.
Exciting place in Newcastle! Good choice of many beers.
J. T.
Drinks are amazing, they are very accommodating of children too, making it very theatrical for them.
Food wasn’t the best hence not a full 5 stars.
D. G.
Great feel and interior to this bar right in Newcastle city centre. Great range of drinks and cocktails on offer with a beautiful rooftop bar also.
P. H.
A great experience, good food and good music
S. K.
Great food and drinks were great.
N. A.
Great place. Good music.great drinks.
l. h.
Great place. Can never get a seat. Definitely the most beautiful bar in Newcastle. Loads of cocktail choice.
O.
Very good drinks but incredibly slow service
G. J.
Visited the Botanist for food and drinks yesterday. Lovely building with a pleasant ambience and Jake our waiter was excellent. Sad to say that the food didn't live up to our expectations, we have certainly eaten better. We chose the hot boards, the lamb meatballs were dry and tough also a little too hot and spicey for our palette which was not explained on the menu and the butter milk chicken was a tasteless. On the plus side the Botanist signature cocktail was excellent!
J. x.
Enjoyed 😉
P. P.
Great place, great atmosphere service and drinks. Place has been decorated out well good mix of age groups well worth a stop
T. B.
Such a lovely place to go to for a meal. The decor and lovely staff always make a meal here feel special. Highly recommended.
M. P.
Fab cocktails and great music excellent staff

One of the best Botanist locations in the country. Amazing space and good drinks!
S. L.
Celebrated my daughter's graduation there on wed it was lovely staff were very helpful and food was lovely
K. “. R.
Who doesn’t like drinking out of plant pots! Nice place, always seem to end up in there :)
L. B.
Our waitress Skye was fantastic. So lovely and friendly. Food was fab.
Would deffo recommend the lamb and mint pie
J. F.
Extremely good service, food, and quality inside decorum. Despite these trying times, the atmosphere of the restaurant remains calm, yet lively and welcoming. The pricing of the food was very well placed, and the quality , speed, and overall end product was exemplary. I would very much recommend this fine establishment. 5 stars.
J. C.
Love this spot, the décor has me in awe every time I go. Drinks are fab! I love the showmanship. Square bar does mean people sometimes (often knowingly) jump the queue, I always feel they could benefit from 'another member of staff on the bar' each time I go. Food is perfectly fine too.
E. F.
Went day before lockdown 2. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Had the buttered chicken burger. Thick cooked chips not really worth extra money and they were frozen. But everything else most enjoyable
S. F.
Stopped in for a meal with my girlfriend on a weekend getaway. Really romantic setting and the food was amazing. The pork belly hanging kebab is a must. Very reasonable price wise. Staff were very helpful & friendly. Food was lovely we had the hanging chicken kebab and the salt
M. C.
Nice meal in a really nice, vibrant and unusual setting
K. L.
Really cool pub/night club with different themes in different sections. Fantastic view of the city from the top floor.
D. L.
Beautiful surroundings
Nice staff
Perfect midweek dining
J. J.
A great place to eat. We had a wonderful View of the centre of Newcastle. The food was well priced and absolutely delicious, most of us went for their famous hanging kebabs which were unreal. Highly recommend them. The cocktails and beer list was fantastic. Sadly they had sold out of a number of the beers such as Camden Hells Lager and the Lervig 3 Bean Stout, we were offered alternatives but they were not suitable. The atmosphere was nice although I can't say I enjoy hearing singer/songwriters playing covers on an acoustic guitar all that much. Cheesy and annoying. The puddings were fantastic, I had the cookie dough was I adored. The only downside was that the restaurant was not very helpful with my deposit that I put down. I paid a deposit for 11 people which other restaurants were happy to just pay directly back to me, however The Botanist took the amount of the bill which made it complicated in getting my money back from the other 10 guests. We were also left waiting quite a while for the final bill. Other than that I highly recommend this place.
C. H.
Only called in for drinks, beautiful bar with great views from the Terrace - disappointed in the cleanliness given covid times. Tables weren't cleaned, mask left on floor under our table, toilets smelt unpleasant (sick)
E. A. N.
Lovely place for a cocktail or a beer 😊
T. O. R.
Amazing surroundings and atmosphere. Fantastic cocktails and staff and live singer was like having our very own Ed Sheeran!
E. Y.
Great customer service and amazing food
D. K.
Stunning venue, great service, food and drink.. and great kids menu too!
H. A.
Love this place, we've been many times even with the kids. It has a great atmosphere and the whole setting is lovely, with the large tree as the centre piece above the bar. Very good food and unique cocktails, highly recommend their famous hanging kebabs.
A. S.
The very best British food in Newcastle city centre.
M. M.
Nice venue, but the pipes for the beer need attention. Pint was awful.
G. T.
Very nice range of cocktails and beers in a great location.
I. H.
Lovely place staff really nice and food was delicious
B. P.
Lovely atmosphere, great choice of drinks and easy to get to as it's right in the city centre
M. I.
Beautiful place... Would highly recommend going
T. C.
We love our visits to The Botanist. A great wine and cocktail selection and the food is always good. Food portions sometimes look small for the price but once you start eating you realise the meals are good value for money. The establishment attracts a very mixed age range of very decent people all out to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and great food and drink. There is sometimes live music that adds to the whole experience. Staff on the whole are extremely attentive and customer focused.
J. R.
So many great things about this bar! It looks cool, there is frequent live music (vocal duo/trio stuff) and the cocktails are a major hit. However.....because of the mass uptake on cocktails I'm sorry to say the service at the bar is poor. I'm not saying the staff are rude or incompetent. Far from it. If it's busy most of them are tied up preparing drinks, leaving pint drinkers like myself with a real wait. This has happened every time I visit. I imagine the venue is a definite destination bar for many, which I can see because it's so busy and the tills are ringing out to the max. By all means check it out because it's a handsome joint, but for the simple reason of service alone I give it a miss most times.
L. D.
Lovely food, great views, good atmosphere. Drinks are pricy though.
2.
Great views and great selection of cocktails
l. h.
If you want a nice and relaxing drink or cocktail or even a meal in a slightly different setting , then try this place , as you won't be disappointed
A. G.
Wonderful cocktails and great atmosphere - but a lot of the seats are very high or uncomfortable.
C. R.
This bar has a great atmosphere, filled with decorations that suit the venue. Great choice of beers on tap and in bottles and cans. The cocktail menu was great, made by the talented bar staff. I imagine the wine list is good too although we didn't get to try this. I would recommend for large groups to book for dinner and small informal occasions as the live music was great.
G. S.
Nice place.
Good food
Helpful staff..
J. D.
I loved the atmosphere in this bar! It's a bit classier than the average bar in the big market scene. The drinks are pricier but well worth the ambiance and more chill feel overall. There was live music when I was there on a Saturday night with an acoustic trio performing songs reminiscent of a Mumford&Sons sound. They were fantastic! I highly recommend this as a watering hole worth visiting!
R. C.
Beautiful atmosphere, incredible drink variety and delicious food.
G. W.
Great place and so much nicer the the one in York, very spacious and not badly priced for its location.
R. B.
Very different. Brilliant views. Lovely interior. Very much a cocktail and fizz type of place. Great for light food and drinks. Staff are brilliant. Think they have live music once covid goes.
H. C.
We went after shopping. The decor is beautiful and exquisite. Staff are professional, polite and helpful. Cocktails are expensive but extremely tasty. I feel it is an absolute art watching the bar staff make the. They usually have live singers when we go in, who are some of the best I have heard in a long time. I only wish I could afford to stay longer. The stairs up to the bar are a good work out, but there is also a lift for those who need it.
S. W.
Amazing drinks and food. Well worth heading to!
C. G.
Amazing views. Usually crowded but it's worth the visit.
C. 0.
After a mountain of steps to get there, well worth it.... Great barman (sorry.. cocktail creator). Lovely company on a Sunday.
C. D.
Amazing view of grey street from the roof terrace. The decor inside is incredible! Lots of cocktails and gin options. A good selection of wine also. There's live music and they serve really tasty food. It can get extremely busy meaning long waits for drinks and it is more up market in price.
N. P.
We booked quite a large group in for my friends birthday and were lucky enough to get our own room which was a nice touch. Our waiter was very lovely and being tourists she recommended all the great places to go after! The food was also quite yummy, we all opted for the famous chicken hanging kebab - which did not disappoint. The interior is just stunning and you could stand there for ages looking at all the cool pieces & furniture. Also the water can cocktails may look weak however they are very very strong & great for sharing.
C. H.
Great atmosphere and incredible live music.
H. A.
Roof top terrace , has a great view over monument and the restaurant itself has a great atmosphere thanks to the live music and the glass dome
B. “. L.
The botanist is a must go if you're visiting Newcastle. With a wide range of drinks and friendly staff the botanist creates a great atomosphere. The cocktails and decor are so beautiful that they are a perfect Instagram opportunity.
E. H.
Although often too busy, this venue is beautiful and somewhere I always take friends and family who are visiting. Location is fantastic and interior well thought out. Although food is sometimes slightly average and service not the greatest/fastest, I'm still giving The Botanist 5 stars for the beautiful experience this place offers. A special mention also to the blankets offered outside to keep warm :)
A. F.
The entrance is a little hard to spot and you are treated to a climb up a few flights of stairs before you finally get to the venue. However it immediately becomes clear that it is all worth it the second you walk through the doors.
The place is naturally lit, the decor is beautiful. There are various areas to sit in, each with a slightly different feel. The view of the city centre from the restaurant area is wonderful for people watching while you eat.
There are a lot of clever dishes on offer. The food is well constructed and tasty although the presentation can be a little too hipster. The portions are reasonable.
There is a huge selection of beers in the "beer anthology" and a great selection of well made cocktails.
S. A.
Fab place, great staff, menu choice and atmosphere. Food is delicious and the wide selection of drinks, recommend to book to avoid disappointment!
R. S.
Brilliant looking bar, well laid out with great customer service. I was about to go looking for an additional seat for our table and one member of staff immediately swept in with a chair and took any social anxiety away from the situation. Little things like that make this place great. Only downside is that the music is always way too loud, for such a big space sound just rattles around making it very difficult to enjoy a conversation.
S. D.
Delicious cocktails and great service. Beautiful place.
K. B.
Excellent service! We just popped in for a couple of drinks on a Sunday afternoon. The barman was very efficient and friendly, cocktails were delicious! The location and decor are amazing. The roof terrace is also a fab addition!
P. S.
Beautiful setting and fabulous cocktails. Love the fact they use the botany in the cocktails and they taste so very good. Lovely atmosphere and really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Didn't eat there but the passing food looked delicious
A. H.
Nice atmosphere for some drinks . The building is beautiful . Just next door to bayan& Waterstones. So of you get off the metro a greys monument it is right on your doorstep. Wish I had taken some pictures. Staff are friendly . Had one coffee and then a cocktail and paid about 10 pounds
K.
Excellent environment as everything is based around a natural theme, good outside and indoor seating areas. The main bar is nestled within a tree. Very interesting cocktail menu made with fresh herbs - a lot of very unique and delicious drinks on offer. Bit pricey, food seemed okay only had some sides, and the onion blossom was a bit salty for me.
Cocktails take the staff so long to make they don't have enough time to wipe all the tables down adequately enough.
L. L.
Visited daytime to book evening meal and couldn't resist staying a daytime cocktail! Lovely unique atmosphere, really relaxing. Very friendly bar staff, then great service and good reasonably priced food for evening meal. Will definitely go back if in Newcastle again
T. S.
One of best views in Toon, good for cocktails but have nice pint too.
S. R.
Lovely as always!

We enjoyed the atmosphere the drinks and food are really good and the waitress called skye was very Friendly
D. T.
Great time on a Saturday night.. Quite busy, we really enjoyed the singer/piano player.
B. D.
First time I have been in here. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly without being intrusive. I had the coronation chicken sandwich and chips. First time I have ever been beaten by a sandwich. Big portion but absolutely delicious.
D. P.
The location is amazing with views looking down Grey street, the high domed ceiling decorated with lights looks magical. The staff who served us we're very friendly and helpful. Everything was on track for a good night. However, I found my duck leg was over cooked and very dry. A similar observation was made about the chicken.

Glad to find a place like this in Newcastle. Something different from traditional pubs. The decoration is amasing and the ambience is beautiful, such a lively place. The live music really gives out really good vibes. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Cocktails are really good and made with a lot of care. Perfect place to start your night or to spend a chill night out.

Really beautiful bar. The bar staff are incredible to watch, like dancers. They serve cocktails and drinks with beautiful skill. The food is tasty but it's pricey for what you get.

This is THE place to take people who are visiting the city. It's probably not my favourite bar, but I can't think of anywhere else with the same wow factor, the design team earned their pay on this job. Service can be a little slow during busy periods but the bar staff seem to be trained to a very high standard often serving 3 groups at a time. Only eaten here the one time but the steak was way above average and the overall dining experience was special.

This is a favourite meeting up restaurant when we are in Newcastle catching up with friends. I had previously booked a table but with hindsight should have asked to be seated away from the door leading into restaurant as 3 times we had to shift seats so that other diners could get hrough. The food was good and well served and our waiter was very pleasant. Apart from seating arrangements we all enjoyed our catch up.

Certainly adequate. Service a little slow, with one assigned waiter to the table who would come by for drinks orders but otherwise a little difficult to get any attention. Plenty of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, but at a price.
Food - some nice choices including fish and vegetarian, served nearly all at once, and adequate rather than spectacular. The chips (with everything) are particularly dull.
Sweets - short selection of pretty good choices

Fantastic place for posh chicken and chips followed by a banana split! Staff were friendly and helpful. Children's menu was excellent with a dairy free dessert option which made my daughter's day!

Food good but live music is far too loud. Went in with my family for a meal and was disappointed that we struggled to hear each other. If it wasn't for the volume this could have been perfect as the service and food was excellent and the venue is superbly laid out. It is a major problem for an enjoyable night if you are unable to talk comfortably in a restaurant. This wasn't even late in the night, just an early evening meal.

Delicious longisland iced tea. Great atmosphere and brilliant live music. Highly recommend.

Great for a Drink, I'm personally not fussed on their food but My Wife likes it..

We love it in here, great drinks, pleasant staff and so relaxing, not to expensive either....

It’s not gourmet, it’s gastro. It’s not formal, it’s warm. It’s not good, it’s excellent. The service is fantastic considering the swell of customers and the glorious tree-based setting builds a warm and natural atmosphere that will persist even as the cacophony of enjoyment rises from the bar below. The Botanist remains a shining jewel in the weathered crown of the Toon’s night-life.

Delicious drinks and lovely place

They have a large and really great selection of drinks. Food is unique from a lot of other places in Newcastle and very tasty. It is a little on the expensive side but when the food, drinks and atmosphere are this good you won't mind.

Fantastic setting, just beautiful

Lovely venue with delicious food. The Asian pork was beautifully presented and the meat was perfectly cooked. Great choice of gin and a beautiful bar. Staff were friendly and attentive, I will definitely return when I am back in Newcastle

Very nice place in terms of aesthetics and ambience, and probably a solid choice for a date. Only complaints would be that the music on the terrace is almost as loud as it is inside, but that might be a good thing for some people. Not for everyone´s budget though.

Beautiful restaurant, a real destination when in Newcastle. When we went it was absolutely full and the staff where really busy but they were still very friendly and attentive. The hanging kebabs are delicious and the cocktails are fantastic!

Visited The Botonist tonight. Very busy with live music. Good atmosphere. Our night was made by the bartender Ryan who was working extremely hard to serve as many people as possible. He was friendly and efficient so he gets five stars from us for excellent service. Well done.

Easily one of the best atmospheres of any bar/restaurant I’ve been to. It’s a really well designed place, and is especially good when there’s live music.
The roof is great, and has some nice views over the city, could just do with a few more heat lamps!

All staff were extremely friendly!! Especially the waitress named Emma (brown hair with glasses) who served us. Also realised it was my birthday and removed my strawberry and elderflower beluni from the bill!! Lovely atmosphere and such a pretty setting. Food was absolutely gorgeous and so tasty!

A great restaurant which is always busy (which is a good sign!) The food and beer selection is great and doesn't disappoint when you eventually indulge.
Often have live music which adds a real nice atmosphere to things.

Nice variety of cocktails to choose from.

Burger great, pudding nice, brownie a little too strong for my 11 year old. Apart from that brilliant, botanically beautiful 😊 Great staff, especially Brad. For the adults, amazing food, great drinks, fab staff and just an all round beautiful eatery. Will most definitely be back.

Booked here for 10 people. Had own private room which was great as we had 2 kids, so they could wonder in safety and not disturb other diners. Food was presented great and very tasty! Service was great too, very good with kids. Looking forward to going back.

Up the lift to the bar or take the stairs for a quick workout, nice welcoming bar/restaurant, plenty of choice on the cocktail menu other drinks are available, staff are polite and professional but could do with a few more because if they're all making cocktails it can take a while to be served, the view down Grey Street passes the time. Haven't had food so can't comment but looks nice, would recommend a visit.

Stunning inside, food was absolutely delicious. Service was great though could have done with an extra person on the floor as it was sometimes difficult to get someone's attention. Only downside was the price. There's pricey and then just overpriced. Charging £9 for a gin and lemonade is just robbery in my opinion. £21 for two spirits and mixer drinks (nothing top shelf) is absurb
J.
Cocktails are really nice, service could be improved however. Wait for my drinks was way too long, one bar man taking multiple cocktail orders from different customers while the other was just stocking glasses. Should of shared the workload to decrease the wait time. Was really impressed with the venue overall on first impressions, however after multiple visits I would rate as average compared to other venues across the UK.

Always nice for drinks, beautiful location, friendly staff. Lots of vegan options, but we were very disappointed in the food for the price. All three of us found our meals nice, but lacking. The falafel burger itself was good but the combination of tahini and rocket left it feeling dry and bitter. The pie was entirely mediocre. At £8-12 per plate, would not eat here again.
C. E.
I love the atmosphere of this place. Trying different drinks from the large menu each time I visit. I have eaten here on many occasions and have enjoyed the vegetarian choices. Staff are helpful and friendly. Definitely would recommend.

Always a joy to come here...the ambience is great and the crowd just up my street!

This is a lovely place for drinks and the food is amazing. I have been a few times and the food has always been great. The crumble on the dessert menu is the best I've ever tasted! Great atmosphere. The only thing I don't like is the coffee which tastes awful and would prefer a cup.
J. A.
Great atmosphere but not enough seating for eating

Second visit to this lovely place. Great selection of cocktails. Really good quality food. Would have been 5 stars but we weren't allowed to use a voucher my daughter had received - confusing instructions on the email left us a little frustrated.

I visited for a meal and a cocktail on my recent trip to Newcastle an happened upon it more by chance really. It's situated through a side door at the side of Jamie Oliver's restaurant, straight across from Waterstones. It's up about 8 flights of stairs but there is a lift for the less able.
It opens at 12, we had tried to book a table online but there was none free but when we called in the young lady told to get there just before 12 for the best chance of a table and thank goodness we did because it filled up very quickly after that.
There's lots of other parts to eat or have a drink in like the garden terrace but we were seated in the main area and it was so lovely, we couldn't believe how amazing it was, everyone should experience the atmosphere and the décor it's beautifully done.
We were served quickly and our choice of steak and ale pie with peas and mash was to die for!! We then had a lovely cocktail to finish off the meal. It was pricey but the experience was worth it. The whole atmosphere, the music being played was great and the staff were all very helpful, friendly and very attentive.
I will definitely be returning on my next shopping trip to Newcastle, but I would say if you want to give it a try, book a table in advance or turn up as soon as it opens.

It's a lovely place but the bar staff let it down. 5 of us waited half an hour to be served while bar staff chose to serve other people repeatedly who had just arrived at the bar. Also one girl working behind the bar stood with her arms folded staring into space while we were still waiting to be served. Also drinks are overpriced.

Awesome place, great atmosphere, large and tasty selection of craft beers, reasonably priced and friendly and helpful staff.

Amazing place in the centre of town, just above Jamie's restaurant, or the old Toon kit shop. Seasonal menu and it all looks delicious, so it has a big massive fake tree in the middle of it which the bar is built into, then had a domed roof which makes the whole place look like an old greenhouse. Fantastic decor and live music was on when I went, which was a hit loud when going to eat out.
E. H.
The food was delicious! The service was very nice too.

Excellent meal & service. Good atmosphere and views onto Grainger Street. I had 5 spices hoisin duck kebab & partner had chicken kebab. Sauces drizzled onto the skewers. Just a bit different. Two course special on a lunchtime. Suggest you book.

Love this place. One of the best places in Newcastle for a drink, a cocktail or even a meal. The decoration makes it very special. The staff are friendly. They have live music sometimes. And the location is very good and centric.

Absolutely gorgeous inside!! Went one night when there was live music on and had the lemonade (mocktail), which was very tasty. The staff are lovely too! Would also recommend the cookie dough....

Food was lovely and cocktails good but service needs improving

Lovely setting . Had to wait a while but it was bank holiday. Staff great. Our waiter knew his stuff and very attentive.
Only down side , no airconditioning and was very hot that day .
Definitely worth another go . I would recommend the Botanist .

Great food, great bar selection, great service. Relatively cheap food considering the quality.

One of my favourite places to drink whenever I'm in Newcastle. Unlike most cocktail bars, I don't have to wait a long time at the bar - even at peak times on a Saturday evening. I tried the "Smokey Old Fashioned" which I loved (see my photo) and was a pleasant change from my usual Old Fashioned choice. A great and varied selection of craft ales too, so there should be something here to suit all tastes. There is an impressive spacious interior so it never feels too crowded (impressive roof too!). The outside seating area offers great views down Northumberland Street from the Monument. I visited on a Saturday evening and there was an excellent live band playing. Deserving of 5 stars!

Really enjoyed our last visit. Great serving staff, food better than I remember here. Just watch out if you want a quiet venue, excellent live music can be a little loud for lunchtime.

Absolutely delicious meal in a very charming setting with an excellent staff. Lots of enticing options on the menu, I recommend the scotch egg, steak pie and leaving room for sticky toffee pudding. A great find during a short visit, I'll be visiting again before leaving.
C. D.
I live the decor in here and the views of the toon are amazing! It's worth bringing visitors here just for a look! The live music on offers lovely. The food is nice, I preferred the starters than the mains. The hanging kebabs are all the rag but I had the chicken one and found it a little bland, which is why I've deducted a star. Apart from that (and the usually long wait to get served!) It's a fantastic place!
B. H.
Really lovely place, food was great and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Special thank you to Skye for making it extra nice 😁

Amazing building with fab cocktails. It’s definitely a must when visiting the city. Reasonably priced. A wide selection of gin cocktails. Take a walk to the top floor and you’ll see really good views of Newcastle.
