Reviews of The Forth
B. G.
We chose The Forth for our staff Christmas lunch, and it was a resounding success! We can be a picky bunch, but the result was that every single member of our party was thrilled with their food. Special shout-out to the falafel starter which was superb! Beautiful Christmas lunch, all fresh and beautiful, and reasonably priced too. Clean plates and happy faces all round! Superb service, lovely surroundings and honestly can’t fault!
D. M.
Interesting experience here.
Food was okay, however one of the dishes was served without some of the advertised ingredients. Refund was given on that dish.
Several of the items on the menu were not able to be served. This was owning to the pub across the road being closed for food and so the Forth had unexpected custom.
Good customer service but do not think I will be rushing back.
Takes American Express.
S. R.
Comfortable atmosphere, dropped in for lunch before our train journey home, had chicken wings and nachos to share, big portions and staff were happy for our request of sauces to be separate from the nachos (nachos were huge)
A. R.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been to The Forth and it’s changed for the better.
The selection of drinks is still above average. The furniture is less “sticky” than it used to be. And the food is fine if a bit uninspired.
Overall a perfectly decent stop for a beer and a burger.
P. M.
Huge beer selection, great fish and chips. Oh yeah, the music is great. Pretty wide speaker coverage.
P. P.
Impeccable service from all the staff especially Ellen who couldn't do enough to make our visit a lovely experience. Everyone loved their food so a big thank you Dan in the kitchen 🥰
M. L.
Great place to drink with a friendly and knowledgeable team. Ellen and Catherine looked after us today. Great food served by Dan.
C.
Came here years ago and was pleased to see the food was still just as amazing. As a spice fiend the friendly staff recommended the Sloppy Jaloppy which I had with 2 sides. The burger was amazingly cheesey and tasty. And althoguh not spicy enough for me, they had a great selection of hot sauces to add. Brilliant! The total bill with 2 beers was £22. More than reasonable and will return on my next visit. Great selection of beers too!
A. L.
Really good food and drink, Served by Lovely staff deven Lucy and Ian. The tobacco onions were delicious!
M.
Good selection of beers, etc, good food, terrace area, one of my favourite pubs.
J. M. F.
I do love this bar- the atmosphere, the quirky room layouts and furniture. The view on the old street and so comfy. Ah of course the drink!
They have my fave wheat beer and lovely staff- thanks keep on keeping on!
T. U.
Great food, great pints and great pub quiz! The staff were all friendly and hosted a great night. I will definitely be back for another quiz!
G. W.
Went Saturday afternoon and not to busy, good atmosphere staff very helpful, good selection of beers, had freaky burger which was nice had a maple syrup and bacon taste, good bar to visit on old cobbled street
J. G.
Lovely bar, great drinks, awesome staff and outstanding service. Would highly recommend 🥂🥰
R. M.
Great food, drinks and quiz night! Will definitely be back for more burgers, cider and quizzes 🤩
K. B.

M. M.
Great place with awesome chicken tenders! We had trivia on Monday night and James was an absolute gem!
T. N.
Cracking pint of Guinness in here. Also ordered the classic cheese burger and it was nice and tasty. The fries were nice too but, the classic slaw was past it’s best, it tasted a little off to be honest. Will probably return.
B. P.
The food here was absolutely amazing !! Great service from Ellen she was really attentive and friendly
K. P.
Tobacco onions are great, shout out to Devon, Lucy and Ian who were on shift for great service.
K. N.
Good bar tucked away in the streets of Newcastle. Modern interior and good selection of beers and drinks. Friendly staff
J. S.
The veggy curry is wonderful.
Flynn was server with Ian in kitchen
Great guys.
L. W.
Really lovely food here- we highly recommend the burgers. We will definitely be returning next time we are in Newcastle☺️
l. d.
Good beers, good food, nice place, friendly staff.
J. D.
Decent boozer, good selection, close to the station, no nonsense.
G. N.
A great pub. Excellent selection of beer served in pint glasses
R. F.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great, really laid back.
A. G.
Lovely visit. Fish and chips was immense, the fish was huge! Lovely selection of gin. The team knew exactly which tonic to have with the gin I wanted
j. m.
Very busy pub but excellent service
Had a lovely meal as well.
A. H.
Classic pub on the Newcastle scene been around for years. Good selection of frequently rotated real / craft ales. Can be insanely busy on weekends. Can run out of burgers on Monday (sad face).
Good beer. Good times.
G. H.
Pre-concert meal. Used to drink Tetley bitter here in the 80s when the north east was mostly a real ale dessert. Now much renovated and extended, we ate in the area I think used to be the ladies loos. Great meal served from a good choice of dishes by hard working staff. We waited a while, but still made the support band, so all was well. Thanks folks: we'll be back
R. A.
Always been a great pub
Chilled in beer garden up on the roof with a great pint of Ipa ®®
K. W.
Super mellow vibe, I love The Forth, the food is lush and they sell Appalls, Hurrah! So Happy I stumbled across this pub, I moved up here from Greenwich some months ago, it's exactly what I was missing from home, love the loungey sofas at the back, staff are pretty cool too. Great Sunday roasts as well!
P. M.
Great pub with welcoming staff. Pint of cask Timothy Taylor's Landlord was the best pint of cask I had in my short visit to Newcastle. Well kept and spot on. I'll look forward to my next visit.
D. B.
Very smart and clean, even the toilets, tasty meaty burger with red hot chips. Much quieter than last pub thankfully
R. L.
Nice pub/bar with real ales
M.
Loved this place for most of my life. I live 7 miles away but at some point, I classed it as my local, I loved it so much. Great place, great fayre and perfect atmosphere for enjoying time out with friends.
S. W.
Great good - the new chicken thigh burger is incredible
J. R.
Brilliant pub - always has been. Great customers and staff. Excellent beer and food.
G. S.
I am afraid that points were lost because they do not accept cash payments. Some people are not in a position to pay with a card, and I was on a works lunch where people had brought cash to pay the balance of their meal, only for the organiser to be told that they didn't accept cash.
S. W.
First time I've eaten there since the new menu was introduced and it was great.
The burger I ordered was delicious but would probably go for a single burger next time as the portions were huge!
V. C.
A very good pub in the centre of Newcastle, only five minutes walk from the Central Station. It's roomy and characterful, even a roof terrace. My only criticism are the mens toilets. Awful, in dire need of a redecoration.
D. R.
Proper pub. Good beer, good food and a canny crowd of people.
B. F.
Lovely welcome by friendly staff
Great selection of beers
We all enjoyed the food! Selection of food was fab! So many to choose from!
Definitely going to return
I. S.
Had a great experience at the Forth. Staff are hospitable and friendly and the place has a great vibe on the whole!
P. L.
Not been in for what seems like a life time. Still fantastic, nice beers, great atmosphere.
L. H.
Great view of the rugby and good selection of beers
R. R.
This is a great pub. Staff brilliant, beer excellent, martini and lemon to die for.
R. L.
Great place, great food - worth a visit 😀
M. S.
Came in, was greeted warmly by all the staff (including some weirdo called Lucy.. 🤔) a nice quaint pub, reminds me of home tbh, I asked what foods available.. and oh my god.. the sausage and mash (with bbq gravy, not as standard, special request) made the visit more special.. and I’ve not had a newki brown in years.. takes me back down memory lane (I’m not that old)
T. M.
Great authentic pub and great pint of Estrella
K. F.
One of my favourite places in Newcastle. Good range of beers, reasonably priced, friendly service and the rooftop terrace is amazing
A.
Great range of drinks, comfortable seating areas and handy central location. A quality pub. 5/5.
C. K.
Very nice food. Had an excellent burger....good quality, excellent toppings...along with spiralised spicy courgettes.....unusual, but very nice indeed. My wife had a half chicken, and it was, indeed, half a chicken....but the presentation was far more appealing than the usual
Overall....more than happy, and would.definitely go again if the opportunity presents itself
S. Q. (. Q.
I've always loved the Forth. It's always been my go to place in town. Great beer selection and great food, but if you want great service look elsewhere. Some of the staff there at the moment really don't seem to want to be there and it really shows in their bad attitude and poor service. Not all of them but enough to make me consider a new favourite drinking spot in town.
Drop the attitude, I know it can get really busy in there, but the majority of folk can be patient and wait for service, but when they get it a smile on the side will go a long way.
N. M.
Food nice, reasonably priced. First time I'd ever tried truffle oil on mashed peas-wow! We buy it for home now! Nice, quiet pub, used to come here from Newcastle College.
M. N.
Really nice pub nice staff and food looked really nice will have to try next time we visit
G. T.
This pub is unfortunately nothing special at all. Whilst the atmosphere is generally quite nice, don't expect any decent customer service. It seems like it's staffed by people who don't really care and see you as a nuisance. The food is generic, not bad but not great - you get what you pay for. There are certainly better pubs in Newcastle.
A. H.
I come to The Forth regularly for drinks but recently came to try their Sunday lunch - wow. Plenty of food, chicken perfectly cooked, and a good variety of veg, I left feeling stuffed. Only thing would be that I'd have enjoyed slightly more gravy, but it didn't take away from the meal at all.
K. G.
The Forth seems to have relaxed its 'we are so superior to other Newcastle bars ' attitude that it used to have . Now is a decent bar where you don't feel you are being looked down on because you don't order the latest real ale. Didn't eat in here, but food looked good and decent sized portions. So handy for the train station ( less than 5 mins walk) if you fancy a quick drink before leaving town .
C. C.
This was my "go to" pub whilst staying in the nearby Hotel Indigo. They have a good selection of interesting beers and a menu with some worthwhile choices at reasonable prices. The male staff are friendly, some of the female staff are a tad frosty (I should point out that I was a lone male, twice the age of most of them but I'm also a feminist so I don't behave inappropriately. I was there with my partner this afternoon at about 13:30 and the person who served us seemed out that we were ordering food). Lovely building with the bar set up to look like a proper pub. The Monday night quiz sounded fun but we were just too late to participate.
S. K. W.
Definitely will go back again as the staff were very friendly, great service and they were trying their best to ask the customers to wear face covers due to the coronavirus. There are great options of beers that you don’t normally see in the other pubs 🍻
m. k.
Good popular pub. Close to the railway station
C. N.
Food was amazing and the vibe is really cosy, would definitely recommend if U like American style burgers and dirty fries
J. A.
My husband and son have been visiting this pub regularly for the last few years but recently the service has been atrocious, due to the couldn't care less attitude of the current bar staff. Good and effective bar staff should be aware of the next customer to be served even at busy times. Recently, on more than one occasion, they have been waiting to be served at a time when it wasn't particularly busy, but they were completely ignored by the staff which they felt was unreasonable. Unfortunately they probably won't go back to this pub as there are plenty other drinking places in Newcastle who give much better service.
W. H.
Good pub and range of real ales, enjoyed the pie and mash, it was a quick visit.
G. Y.
We were going to the rugby and I was very peckish. UnderThey do not like you eating a Gregg's pasty with your pint! Other than that really good bar.
Update. The management were quite right to take me to task!
A. T.
Decent boozer on pink lane, I have drank in here on all its guises for the past 20 years. Good selection of ales , largish pub. Has a beer terrace and is generally pretty busy with a 'fashionable' crowd
G. L.
Great place. Staff were excellent and did more than needed. Food was spot on. Cracking spot.
C. C.
Quick visit while in Newcastle for the football in The Forth Hotel, and the place had a good atmosphere even though Everton beat Newcastle comfortably. Good choice of beers and the staff were very friendly. The place was full, so standing room only but that didn't stop us enjoying ourselves for a quick pint on the way back towards to train station which is only a 2 minute walk away.
A. G.
Great burgers good beer a little noisy Friday night
L. M.
The times I've been in its been vibrant and busy, often a little difficult to find a seat, time dependent. The menu is good but I haven't tasted the food, usually due to the price. Its a good place to pop in and grab a drink, especially if you're waiting for a train, as its so near to the station!
M. L.
Good atmosphere and beer 😁
S. C.
This relaxed, traditional pub is just over the road from Newcastle Station, and offers good food and beer in pleasant surroundings. There is a small beer garden on the roof, but it is compact and bijoux- you may have to wait for a spot! Recommended.
A. R.
The Forth is a great place to grab a chilled out drink with friends. Nothing pretentious or try hard about it, it has a cool and relaxed vibe. Usually packed out at a weekend, it's has a great atmosphere and attracts a wide range of customers. Good range of well made cocktails and a good beer selection, should keep most people happy!
S. H.
Nice atmosphere, a bit quiet
S. B.
Been here a couple of times in the last few weeks and enjoyed both meals. It's a little bit more expensive than the Town Wall next door but not so much that it would stop you going.
The only negative is the outside terrace. We thought it would be nice to go up on a rare summer day in Newcastle and enjoy the fresh air with hour beer but it was full of smokers.
P. J. W.
Despite yet another refurb, it still doesn't quite hit the spot, atmosphere wise. I'm told the food is improved, but the beer selection still leaves a bit to be desired. Worth popping in for one I guess.
E. R.
Nice staff and good pub food.
d. b.
Cool place decent service a lot of reserved tables but I guess that is a sign of success
M. W.
This was my handout as a student. It's been transformed into a brilliant bar.
C. A.
Always a favourite. Quirky establishment with good atmosphere serving vast selection of every perceivable drink. with better atmosphere. Friendly staff providing good service. Definitely recommended
A. F.
Was brilliant. I could even wait to take a photo to tuck in. Good portions. Staff were lovely
C.
This used to be my local years ago. It still has a mix of younger and older people and the food isn't bad at all, if a tad pricey. I do love the small roof terrace they've added which is has timed electric heaters.
P. K.
Always went the Forth before gigs at Metro Arena, met my lovely Fiancee' there 6 years ago so it has always been a special place for me. The wide range of beer is great and food has always been lovely, don't think I've ever been in when it was quiet.
C. S.
Decent (and reasonably interesting) beer selection and the food's pretty good as well. Quite loud on a Friday night, but at least the music was good - Depeche Mode, LCD Soundsystem and Kraftwerk were all appreciated.
D. M.
Well established pub on Pink Lane that offers a great range of beers. Gets very busy, but service is good.
The Forth has been going for yonks. Whilst the building across from it, now the Town Wall has changed faces many times over the years, the Forth has stood the test of time. The food is better than a lot of pubs in the area, but it isn't a reason to visit.
Not a particularly inspiring interior, with very little seating, so if you get a seat, you're likely to stay there. There is an upstairs outdoor roof terrace that doesn't get that busy, probably as it doesn't have a great view or get much sun. But there are heaters for the colder days.
Thumbs up from me if you want a place to sample some good beer.
C. M.
Used to come here all the time, was put off by some miserable staff and was tempted away by newer venues. Totally won back now though, fantastic new menu, cheery staff, best nut roast in town! Definitely coming back again and again now. Two big thumbs up 👍 👍
M. L.
Great pub and good food
D. R.
Good beers, music and great food. One of the best pub quizzes in Newcastle. Everything is a little more expensive, but the quality, relaxed atmosphere and deal nights certainly balance things out.
A. W.
Great food and large portions!
P. D.
Good beer....Good food....nicely done out.
D. W.
Lovely staff and roast beef.
L. H.
Friendly staff and great selection of drinks
P. M.
Sunday dinners are amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful too!
J.
Formerly the best pub in Newcastle. Still pretty good now, but rather than effortless cool, it's all a bit try hard. Also, a pet hate of mine is a pub that reserves tables, if someone's been in there for several hours spending money, they shouldn't have to move tables because someone else turns up later.
C. R.
I love the staff here. The environment is really friendly and there's plenty of characters to converse with. The food is very hearty and there's a wide range of drinks on offer.
J. H.
Real ale available. No atmosphere. But staff are friendly. Prices are a bit dear, considering surrounding bars are cheaper.
L. R.
Best food and drink in town, plus the staff are top knotch and give the place a really good vibe
A. F.
Nice drink selection and plenty of space to sit inside. Been here for food too and it's good. Chilled out inside and usually good music playing too!
A. C.
Fine
b.
Always a great day in the Forth 👍
L. S.
Great for a night out, quality drinks and fair prices. Very good atmosphere as well! Music is just right to have a chat without the need to shout.
S. M.
Solid food (the vegan lasagna was delicious), and nice selection of drinks. Accidentally wound up playing the pub quiz, which was a lot of fun. Staff was very friendly.
F.
Great food, friendly staff and good selection of beers
A. B.
Best salad of my entire life.
D. G.
One of the nicest old - style city centre pubs in Newcastle upon Tyne. Good beer and friendly staff.
Updated inside but still traditional, and a great location close to the railway station.
M. D.
Good selection of drinks and food. The roof terrace has heaters which is a major key.
A. C.
Nice beer. Good vibe to the place. Bar layout makes getting served tricky at busy times. Otherwise canny
C. A.
Amazing hotel at a great price. Would definitely recommend.
M. W.
A good mix of people. Very cool clientele. A relaxed vine. Good selection of European beers although expensive. Upstairs there is an outside balcony. Cool bar.
A. M.
Rude bar staff always rushing
C.
Great selection of beers, lovely decoration and a generally nice place to be. One of my favourite spots in Newcastle for a couple of drinks.
P. M.
Lovely place to stop by and enjoy a nice pint. Staff were also very friendly. I will be back after lockdown!
P. M.
Expensive and not very friendly
C. W.
Food is absolutely amazing. Tried a couple of burgers and loved them both. Staff are friendly whenever I’m in too. Highly recommend.
D. B.
Great atmosphere
H. R.
Fantastic Ales, Beers, Ciders. The food is good too and served my great staff. If your anywhere near central station and have some time. Get you butt to the Forth.
P. M.
Good service, nice beer, decent food 👌
A. D.
Fab range of craft beers
D. A. C.
Good service good range of drinks. Excellently Covid safety.
D. K.
One of my favourites. Near the train station. Nice interior. Wide range of beers and a quirky terrace. Always a good starting point for drinks in Newcastle.
T. A.
Really great location opposite the station, has excellent choices of beers and also the food is amazing. One of best burgers in Newcastle.
A. S.
Ok bar...bit pricey for what it is
G. P.
Nice pub. Chilled vibe. Never seen any bother in here seems to have friendly drinkers. Well kept beer.
J. c.
Friendly staff, great selection of food and drinks
d.
Small and friendly pub tucked away but within two minutes walk of central Station in Newcastle.
Decent drinks choice and serving pub grub.
M. A.
The bar area is good for meeting and drinking, there's a little hidden lounge for eating or drinking, and there's a nice terrace upstairs partly covered, with tables and chairs
H. M.
Good service/beer and ambience.
Look forward to next.visit.
Harmen
J. A.
Amazing beef dinner cleared the plate, washed down with a great pale ale. Great music playing in the back ground can't beat a bit of velvet underground 👍
M. G.
Great pub and friendly atmosphere
K. G.
Great service that was human and genuine. The food was amazing and the bar staff very knowledgeable about the selection of beverages and food available. Certainly coming again!
R. M.
It's OK, but it's rapidly losing its magic. The major advantage is the location - just a minute walk from Central Station. I can remember when it opened and it was genuinely different - it really raised the standard. Unfortunately for it, everyone else has caught up.
j. r.
Great atmosphere and good selection of beers
C. m.
Great food and drink,friendly staff
I. Y.
Decent bar good selection of beers, well worth a visit, can be a bit pricey but quality costs
C. M.
Long wait on quiet sunday, expensive and dirty, looks like dust collected round the lights will fall in my beer. On the upside the Peroni was a nice clean pint.
j. z.
Just a really really nice Pub and great food also!! Never let us down in years! 👍
B. H.
One of my favourite bars in the toon
S. H.
Got the Sunday roast with chicken. Food tasted very good, but the portions were way too small and the waiting time over 40 minutes
s. h.
You could sort out the shelves near the windows as one of our friends had a full pint slide down the shelf and smash onto the floor. The barman says it happens all the time and offered him a new pint for the price of a half.
D. K.
Excellent burgers, love the spicy fried onions.
A. K.
Lovely food and always a good time in here - great. I always go in when I am back home - staff are helpful too.
L. B.
A really chilled out bar tucked away in the back streets near Newcastle Station. Great haloumi burgers and attentive service!
P. R.
Good selection of ale / craft beer enjoyed an excellent meal would recommend if you are close to the station 👍
A. A.
Chicken wings are out this world.
S. J.
A good selection of craft beer and really nice staff. Food a little on the mediocre side but ok
D. P.
Good location for the station. The staff can be a bit iffy - depends who's on. Good selection of ales and the food is good.
M. b.
Food and service great. Had to wait a while for the food but they apologised and gave us extra helpings.
P. B.
Cosy and quirky little pub with lots of little alcoves to hide in! Quite a small bar but the range of beers and ales is still impressive.
T. H.
Never eaten here but the selection of beer is one of the best. You can usually find a stout or a Porter on draft that isn't Guinness
A. I.
One of the best pub in town For sure. Amazing staff. Never seen a pub clean like the forth.
C. H.
Friendly helpful staff, we had a meal mid afternoon my wife had pulled pork and myself fish and chips. Both meals were lovely would go again

B. S.
My favourite bar in Newcastle. Great atmosphere, great food and a variety of beers.
S. H.
Good beers, great atmosphere and perfect little roof terrace. Quirky, fun pub.

A. B.
Lovely little pub with a nice selection of drinks from craft beers to a compact but enjoyable cocktail selection.

Good old fashioned boozer, still has the atmosphere it had back in the 70's when I first started drinking in toon.
P. C.
Good old fashioned pub with great food and a good selection of drinks will definitely be back.
