Absolutely amazing food and great pints! The staff are friendly and it's a pub with a great atmosphere. It was the last place I went to before lockdown and it was a great send off! We took our puppy as it was dog friendly and had the most amazing burger and chips! The food was out of this world and the pints helped it go down nicely! Also, we only live over the road which is a benefit. Best local I could ever want.

Kept clean and bar staff were canny; told (it was late) when food would be a while but it came quick anyway. Sandwiches lush tasting but not huge to make you stuffed. We booked a table for 6 for Fathers Day. I had the beef dinner and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly, helpful and wore masks the whole time. There is a social distancing one way system that works really well. Highly recommended.

This place has a good mixed vibe for all ages whether your a student or just looking for a comfortable relaxed pub and a good pint be it a group or couple. There's seems to always be a varied choice on tap and not just the usual big standard Fosters/Amstel you find in some pubs. The food is always good and there's a great choice on the menu depending on what your in the mood for. Plenty of outdoor seating and car parking spaces as well.

This is such a great place to visit, for me when you walk in to a pub and see plenty of dogs you know it's a friendly place. There are people from all sorts of backgrounds in here, I'm sure there would be loads of interesting stories to hear. The food was great, pub food but tasty. I had a burger with chips (triple cooked) and it was a good belly fill. The staff were friendly, service was quick and glasses and plates were regularly collected. I will definitely visit again.

Well, what a change. Visited after a change in management and saw a vast improvement. Happy smiley staff, pub buzzing and good beer. Beats my previous lone star experience hands down.

My local and couldn't be happier about it. Great selection of beer will regular tap changes on real ales. They seem to have a good relationship with local brewers as they regualury have new local and small batch releases. The food is great and well prepared with a couple of vegan/vegetarian options and gluten free alternatives for burger buns etc if you need it. Friendly staff, dog friendly pub and regular quiz nights.

Excellent size of gin and lemonade was served in posh glasses. Staff were smiling, polite and very pleasant , they removed straight away empty glasses around the pub and the outside area. Good quiz entertainment and plenty of space outside. Dog friendly. Toilets are dirty.

First visit so not sure what to expect. Very busy being a warm Friday early evening. No problem getting served . I had a couple of pints of rivet catcher, the 2nd being better than the first. I ordered one of the pizzas and was more than happy with it. Overall a very good experience. It has a good mixture of customers, old and young. We'll worth another visit.

Proper pub. Modified nicely to suit social distancing requirements during the Covid-19 pandemic. Lots of outdoor seating options. They have introduced an app for ordering off the menu so you don’t have to interact with the staff except for when they bring your order.

Love the place, staff is great and so is the atmosphere. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 is that the last 2-3 times I've been here almost all of the ale offerings on keg have been off and were never replaced while I was there. Hopefully this will change next time I visit as there will definitely be a next time!

Been going to the Hussar regularly since it opened. Food has always been fantastic. Heather burger is something else! Reasonably priced and always get a decent pint. Attempted to make my way through the Gin menu and always happy with the results. A very wide range of ales and whiskeys which is great if you fancy something different. Staff are always dead friendly and really like the decor, especially the corner that looks like it has been taken from a church. Never any bother in the pub and will continue to return to this fine establishment.

Really great service and the food was amazing. Unfortunately we had a bad experience ~6 months ago and decided to come back after a friend advised there had been some changes made. Really glad we did, service was on point and the food was prepped pretty quick and was outstanding quality. Will definitely be returning soon!

A few metres off the well trodden path of Chillingham Road! Easily missed by many. I've drunk beer here for some ten years or more on and off. I like the bar for sure, and whilst I've not tried the grub, it looks top. The menu does too plus the place seems very well frequented by diners. It's dog friendly which I ain't. Unlike another bar not too far away, dogs don't ruin the vibe here thankfully. My only other criticisms are flakey to mainly no WiFi and it's expensive. Yes I know it's still a pound shy of central prices, but it is definitely steep. I absolutely like the place as an occasional alternative to more convenient and cheaper (maybe not better) bars nearer to me.

We are new to the area and found this place by chance. Everyone very friendly, locals and staff. Lots of space to eat or just have a drink. We didn't eat but the food looked delicious and we will definitely try it next visit. Large car park to the rear.

It was my local for many years. I've moved over 3 miles away and it's still my local. Good pub food at reasonable prices. A vast array of soft drinks, beers, ciders wines and a tonne of spirits. It has a true pub feeling with a sense of independence you don't get from chains - we're looking at you Fiztgeralds. It has a quirky appearance with an array of customers. Students, old and young couples, families and groups of mates. There's no tv, no Wi-Fi - and I love it. The staff changes regularly as it's in the heart of student accomodation but they're all sound. One thing I'd note (but it doesn't bother me) - some beers like Heineken or the guest lagers cost quite a bit. Everything else is reasonable :) favourite pub in the north east.

I have had some great beers here. Usually 4 or 5 handpulls and a good range of kegs. The odd time I've visited the choice has been poor, nice potatoes wedges though.

Been here to eat several times now as its the local. Pub! The staff are warm and friendly and the food is delicious! I think the only misfortune, is my Canadian fiancée takes offence to calling the chips cheese and gravy - poutine. Whilst the concept is the same, its not quite poutine. Saying that it is delicious. The handcut fries in the Hussar are literally, the best that I have ever eaten. Personally, you can never go wrong with a good chunky chip! I would definitely recommend a visit here

The Hussar is a place that in the past no one went to. Now it is very popular with some good home cooking. It is quite a busy place . It has become a bit of a gastro pub. . Worth a visit .
