Reviews of The Strawberry
M. H.
If you visit Newcastle and don't come here, you're missing out. As much a part of this city's history as the Tyne bridge. Great beer, great staff, great atmosphere!
A. B.
Great wee pub with good atmosphere, fantastic staff and drinks selection - "the strawberry" being my personal favourite! Will absolutely visit again whenever we're back in Newcastle.
J. L.
Friendly staff. Always wanted to visit but always too busy so delighted to finally get to drink in it
D. M.
Decent pub and they serve Beavertown!!
Unsure of whether they take American Express and unsure of whether they have baby changing facilities.
However, probably wouldn’t take a baby to be honest and just go there for a public house on the sesh!!
N. D.
You don't have to be a football fan to pay a visit! Popped in after work on a Friday afternoon, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Staff are always fantastic and upstairs on the terrace is glorious in the rare moments of sunshine we have. In non-sunny times there are patio heaters you can turn on and off as you need.
L. B.
Great vibe clean and the staff work hard especially during matches. Good place for a few games of pool and also has a jukebox. Although pints are a little on the expensive side to some bars in town but still a great venue
C. R.
Good selection of real ale beers and helpful, friendly staff.
Decent food served up for post squash match (provided for Eldon Leisure team) although limited for vegetarians. (To be fair they weren't notified of our vegetarian contingent).
c. j. M.
Bar staff very helpful and always smiling. I come here every year for my dads anniversary and always felt welcome, this year I didn't bring my son due to illness, but still managed to have a good time
P. C.
Popped into the pub last Monday for a couple of pints. Nice boozer and say it would be rocking on match day. Very friendly landlord. Well worth a visit. :-)
G. L.
A must visit place when in Newcasle and its just as friendly and fun when their is no Match on.
D. B.
I have wanted to visit the Strawberry for a long time but never got around to it⁰0 till Wednesday. Walking in and seeing all the pictures and memorabilia was probably a little bit better than I had expected and i was expecting a lot. We got a truly warm welcome when we ordered our drinks at the bar.The service was good and the lady behind the bar was also busy going around sanitising the tables. On every table there was a bottle of hand sanitizer which quite surprised me. If you are a Newcastle United supporter I would highly recommend calling in The Stawberry for a drink and a look at the pictures and memorabilia. If you have a walk up the stairs to the balcony you get a great view of St James' Park.

I feel compelled to post a review based on yesterday's visit... I arrived with my wife at midday thinking plenty time to kickoff, will get a couple of nice quiet pints and thats that... Place was absolutely rammed busy, great atmosphere and just amazing to see that the institution that is the Strawberry is flourishing on the back of the revitalised Newcastle United side. Despite being busy, drinks were served quickly and the bar staff were working hard to keep on top of things. Highly recommended 👍
T. K.
Jam packed before match, really busy but bar service was excellent. Sarnies are lovely too. Ham and pease pudding and ham salad recommended.
T. B.
On a trip from London. Excellent boozer. Even let me play London Calling on the jukebox amd turned it up. Great staff and lager. The only thing I was really disappointed about was the quality of the beef burger which to be fair was diabolical. Anyway.. a that aside it's a lovely all round traditional boozer. Will deffo return! Thanks guys 👍🏻

The Strawberry is a great bar to visit at anytime but especially on match days as the atmosphere is electric & full of anticipation & excitement ahead of the game with the stadium barely 50 yds over the road - you can't get any closer ! There is a large bar with seating & tables downstairs with a smaller bar upstairs also with tables & seating & a small outside smoking area. Michael the boss man & all his plentiful staff are very friendly & quick at getting you served as you can imagine it gets chocka on every match day but the staff are so good & efficient with your order your away from the bar in no time. Always a great & happy atmosphere with quite often football songs being heard bellowing out around the premises. There are many TV's dotted around both up & downstairs to keep you up to date with the latest sports news & scores along with live football matches being shown. Food & snacks are also available & very nice aswell. The only criticism i have is the state of the toilets on match days, they are very small both up & downstairs & can be quite often needing a clean as kick off time approaches due to the footfall using them but overall it's a great bar & well worth visiting especially on a match day but at all other times aswell. I'm a regular & in there before every home match so a big thankyou to Michael & his great hardworking barstaff.
ps keep the Jack Daniel's with only 1 ice cube coming fast lol 🤣
A. M.
Came here and was having a great time but someone on the next table was being way too loud. Some Fella came over, Les Davidson i think his name was, and started beating his chest shouting "you think you're the boyo"
No idea what he was on about, but Les jabbed him and shouted something about morrisons, then turned round and asked me to buy him a pint because he was skint.
Never been more scared so bought him two and went as quick as i could.
Great night before that though, just get in before Les comes in.
R. B.
Nice place with flippers, nice beer and nufc look

I love this pub such an iconic footie fans pub I’m an Arsenal supporter and have been living up here now for just over a year have been going to this pub long before I moved up here permanently. H. G.
Great place for a pre/post match beer. Fantastic atmosphere
D. S.
I've been going there before the Match since the early 90's...
The people in charge at first were not the best of hosts .. miserable at the best of times...I remember the Landlord sitting at the end of the bar and not doing much.
But Michael and Caroline have taken this pub to another level....
Many kind regards to them...
Good job !
C. B.
Love this Bar ... Staff are good crack..Great location and vibe..
P. J.

Great pub to come in for some pre match drinks. Class atmosphere on match day too, i’ve heard good things about the food but not tried it myself but overall such a iconic pub.
C. D.
The Footie bar for fans. We went during Magic Weekend and place was full of RL fans in club colours and all having a great time singing club songs without any aggro. Rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline was brill. Great bar with lively atmosphere .
H. D.

Second time I've been there visiting family close to Newcastle. Great staff great prices

Great heated seating area overlooking the stadium. Staff were lovely. Toilets were clean and tidy. Loved the steins but I might a drank a few more than I should have. Will absolutely come back again.
B. T.

J. W.
Nice pub opposite the football ground. Pint of Camden Hells lager was £5.
P. M.
Great place for a beer and food in Newcastle. Even bought a beany.
S. N.
It's a bit posher than it used to be and I'm undecided of I like that or not.
Some will, certainly feels more sanitised than I've ever known it. The women and children will prefer it I suppose.
The pints are still excellent and should be enjoyed on a non match day also
N. E. S.
It was a nice pub ti hang out with friends for a drink after work

I get here quite often. Good atmosphere and very good service. Decent choice of ales. They also do food. It's a bit of a footie bar being next to St James. A bit careworn but we'll worth a visit.
A. L.
Great place to enjoy the sunshine as they have changed the carpark into a beer garden. Friendly staff always checking your glass isn't empty. Not going here when visiting Newcastle just seems wrong to me.

It's my match day pub as well as about 250 other Newcastle supporters and It buzzing, only 20 yards from St James park. Been going there for about 45 + year's.( It's home from home.) Good range of beers, lager's and real Ale's and a well stocked bar. Dose Bar meals BUT Not pre match time's. Not for families with children or young teenager's on match day's Only football fans.

What can I say? If you dont mind a very busy pub on match day, this is the one you should go and try. Everyone there for a nice drink before the match and have a laugh. I like the atmosphere on match day.
Mind you saying that, my wife and I wanted to go up onto the roof terrace as it was boiling downstairs, and we had seen from the side street it didn't look busy, but the doorman stopped us going up saying it was full even though we said it wasn't full from the road. He wouldn't change his mind.
R. S.
First time at the Strawberry and must say I had a lovely afternoon. The staff were very friendly and are doing a great job, will definitely be back soon.
