Really enjoyed this pub/restaurant. They've done a great job of creating a suitable ambience, and the setting on Newport quay benefits from the renovation of this area. The fish pie was delicious! Pretty reasonable prices too.

The Bargeman's Rest is a favourite old haunt which I keep coming back to. Cosy and characterful, this is a great pub for food anytime of year. Also the boast a good selection of ales and spirits. Great for a lunch date with a friend. It can get busy at peak periods so always a good idea to book to avoid disappointment.

Food was incredible, I think I had the surf and turf burger. My partner had the steak which he enjoyed but felt it wasn't worth the money as it was small, but steak comes in all sizes, he said it was nicely cooked though.

This place is well worth a visit for drinks but mainly for the food. Local ales are sold but the food is proper great. I had fish and chips today but my friends had the ultimate burger(3 burgers, egg, bacon, mushroom) and chips and some green stuff on the side. My fish was substantial but tasted great too. Deffo coming back!

A very busy pub/restaurant but service was quick, food was delicious and generously portioned and the staff were polite and efficient. There's limited parking but local car parks are very close and £1 all night after 18:00. Book in advance to make sure you get a table.

It is a great pub. Family and dog friendly with a nice outside space. 2021 update, still great food and beer. The banana waffles could win awards! 2022 As good as ever, rustic baguettes very good. Goddard ales and a choice of apple ciders on draught. Later in the year: Ringwood ales including Boondoggle on draught 2024. Now part of a small chain. Food is okay, beer and cider as good as ever.

Vegan and vegetarian friendly. Quite a lot of options for vegetarians, less for a vegan but still a good selection. The gourmet burger was great, nice side salad and chips with it and the alcohol free drinks where a great addition. Sit at the back to avoid the fishy smells.

Good pub grub, make sure in busy times you go to right place to order food. As a visitor I didnt know that there was a separate food order place and bar don't take food orders in bust evenings. I found out after I queued at bat for 10 mins had to go elsewhere then queue at bar for another 10 to 15 mins long enough I just got back with drinks when food arrived

I live local to Newport where this restaurant is to be found & try to pop in as often as possible. Will even go shopping with the wife as an excuse to visit. The food is excellent every time, surprising how quick it arrives, too hot some times. Love the home made pie but it's to large to finish. Would prefer a half portion but they don't do them. Relaxing atmosphere & good interesting decor. Yes the drinks are priced a bit high but it's a better standard than Wetherspoons & more choice. Parking can be a bit hard but dead easy if you have your own boat ! Give it a try don' t think you will be disappointed unless it's a mince beef pie. :-)

The Bargemans has river views, fine food and good selection of ales. I would've given it 5 stars, but being on the main walking track they do allow dogs inside. And we had a nasty experience the evening we visited. A dog peer on the floor. The staff were there quickly to clear it up and apologized. It's not the sort it f thing you want when you're about to eat. And there is an outdoor area.

Great place to visit for both locals and tourists. Amazing menu with really well thought out extra options if you ask at the bar ( I can't eat dairy which makes eating out anywhere a massive struggle ). Beautiful scenery with seating in and outdoors, they have local bands and entertainment on most days with really bubbly and friendly staff. If you haven't tried it is very much one of those places where you get a great meal at a cheap price!

Stopped by a couple of times for a cider before walking up to the festival as it looked a lovely traditional pub sat on the river. Beautiful and authentic inside, and a fair amount of seating outside overlooking the river. Although we did not have food, it looked and smelt good, but we had already eaten both times!

We were looking for somewhere to have breakfast and found the Bargeman's Rest, it's a bit of a quirky drive to get there through an industrial estate, but once there it was fine and nice location. Called with our parents when we stayed in Newport. We had a wheelchair and could get around very well. So many meals to pick from and all home made, the size of the meals where so big. The staff were all so helpful and after going for the first night we went back every night even thou we had to drive there from our hotel. Can't understand how some reviews moan about the size and having to wait....if it's fast it been pinged. Thanks you from all of us and hope to see you again.

A fantastic family pub located in a lovely part of Newport near the Quay. The food is always good, the portions are generous, the bar is always sensibly priced and there is plenty of seating available. Can be very busy at certain times due to its popularity. Evenings with live music also make for a great atmosphere.

The lady barmaid who has been working there for several years (sorry, don't know her name) is very friendly and always seems genuinely pleased to see you. Love all the decor too... it's what a proper pub should be like. Great Fuggle-dee-Dum ale is often on tap, and that can only ever be a good thing!

This is a really nice place if you like simple pub food. Set by the quay you can watch boats come and go and watch the surroundings which are always busy. The food is what you would expect good quality pub food with a traditional perspective and the drink well I recommend you try the Doom Bar ale. Enjoy

Wonderful atmosphere, fantastic food for the price, decently priced drinks and a great location. Only real criticism is that the seating can make you a bit sore after some time, so be prepared if you plan on staying a while.

Stopped by whist on holiday using the local mechanic Vectis Cars and whilst waiting we had a spot of lunch. Kids had fish fingers and chips and macaroni. We shared a portion of chios and a bagatt chicken ceasar with drinks including small wine. 2 pints of soda and lime and fruit.shoots. 36.quid. fold is amazing. Proper food. Would highly recommend. Great location too. Toilets were clean.

The Bargeman's Rest is a public house and restaurant that deserves the highest recommendation. The pub is beside the river and is a long building and inside is a treasure trove of nautical memorabilia, to view it all would take a very long time. The staff provide an excellent level of service, being friendly and efficient. The food served was of top quality and quantity. There was an absolute minimum wait for the food to be delivered to table, my party had four different meals ordered and all arrived within seconds of each other. Toilets clean and well maintained. I totally recommend the Bargeman's Rest to all.

the bargemans rest is situated on the bank of the river medina in Newport, Isle of Wight. good selection of drinks & fairly good meal, but sadly some of our order (lasagne) had been under the pass lights too long & gone crispy 😢 but...the meal was swiftly replaced & the service was excellent; so the lasagne issue was a one off. here youll find a relaxing atmosphere, lots of sailing/boat/navy related items on show. lovely staff. well worth a visit if you're in town or staying at the nearby premier inn.

A very cute pub on the water in Newport. We had lunch here during a bike ride from Ryde across the east of the island. The fish pie for lunch was very heavy and I didn’t like the veggies it came with - tasted like plain frozen veggies from Lidl. Food is not amazing here or the best quality but the setting and customer service and drinks made up for it.

Nice pub with seating outside both smoking and no smoking areas. Unfortunately on our visit they were short of staff due to staff isolating because of track and trace. So service was limited and now closing on Mondays while they have shortages of staff. Nice inside restaurant with a separate family room. Good varied menu. Look forward to visiting again.

Just one of the managers obviously a bit stressed with the pace of a busy evening, so a bit short, whilst helpful, such a shame.
