Reviews of The Blacksmiths
K. C.
Came here for a roast dinner. Love that the pub is dog friendly. We sat near a lovely warm fire. I had the beef brisket roast and then chocolate fondant pudding. Both were superb! Would suggest ordering extra gravy as it’s delicious and there’s never enough - in a good way! The views are superb. Overall I would come back here. As a local I’m annoyed with myself I didn’t come here for a roast sooner! They also do good vegetarian roast options.

Such a lovely pub. The food was amazing and the service is brilliant. First time here and will definitely be going back. It was really busy on our visit but the staff took it all in their stride and maintained a very high level of service.

I decided to take my fiance here for lunch for her birthday and it was a really nice experience. Having the option of ordering from the bar or using the barcode to order through was a nice option. We ordered through the app and it was nice and easy to use and brought out fairly quickly!
My partner had a filo feta pie and I had their lamb, onion, smoked garlic and redcurrant gravy. We shared some fried squid as well which was delicious.
We sat outside and the views were gorgeous as well. Definitely worth a visit.
S. A.
Staff were friendly and were able to seat us without a booking, despite it being a busy weekend. We were tucked out of the way so had a buzzer for service. Food was very tasty, I had the beef brisket which was very tender with a tangy BBQ sauce. The side of frickles I ordered were also really good. The rest of our party enjoyed their food too. There was a good play area for the kids outside, including a toddler area.
R. T.
Beautiful lunch served incredibly quick and fresh, lovely setting with the sun shining and views out over the countryside and out to the Solent, would definitely recommend for ambience, activities for the children and plenty of outdoor seating.
P. G.
Had a great meal with the family. Good menu with a separate specials menu on the blackboard. Very busy but the staff were working really hard and service was still prompt.
The view is outstanding worth the trip alone. With a nice outside kids play area and plenty of outside seating. Recommend you book. We phoned up for a booking on Monday and couldn't get in until Friday. But based on our meal it was worth the wait.
N. M.
Service is good, view lovely, amazing play area for kids. Food is also nice so would definitely recommend. Parents can actually eat a meal and enjoy a drink!
A. A.
Wonderful countryside pub, friendly service, gorgeous food and even view of the sea in the back of the scenery if one sits outside. I had a swordfish burger which was divine.
S. W.
Another visit to this great venue. Amazing food and service as always. Vegan choice was amazing. Highly recommend Newchurch Pie. Amazing views across the Island
J. P.
It was lovely. Lovely staff. Amazing meal. Really good prices. It was our first visit but a great place to spend our anniversary! I had pork belly, other half had katsu curry. Puddings were salted caramel cheesecake and I had chocolate fondant! Tasted so good, really generous portions too! The place was very cosy and quaint.

Heading out to the Theatre, thought we would re-visit one of our favourite eateries first, and yet again the experience was lovely throughout.
Have to say, booking is essential, as they fill tables easily. With the picturesque landscape from the dining area it's no wonder.
We'd never been seated in the window tables before, so this just added to the experience, and watching the weather pass along the Solent was wonderful.
The Blacksmiths have a specials board and however inviting the options looked, I was rather famished, so the mixed grill was my only real option. (sure the 16oz T Bone would've filled the hole, but fancied variety 🙂)
The missus choosing the smaller option of the Pork Belly, leaving room for dessert.
It was beautiful, cooked to perfection, medium rare my preference and accompanied by a pint of Inch's Cider, our server, friendly, approachable and nothing was too much trouble.
The Pork Belly, I'm informed melted in the mouth and was also delicious with creamed mash and veg.
Dessert, I'm usually a starter / main man, but seeing a White Chocolate and Raspberry Creme Brulee' held me to indulge my sweet side. My Gem opting for the highly anticipated Strawberry Pavlova with Chantilly Cream.
Both desserts were presented beautifully and were delicious, leaving both of us full and totally satisfied.
We cannot rate The Blacksmiths high enough on our 'I.O.W must eat at' list as their team are amazing, food is lovely and the locale is beautiful.
You simply must try here.
M. S.
Very popular restaurant, set in stunning scenery. It has a good choice of menu, with Vegaterain and Vegan options. Good size carpark and plenty of outdoor seating.
c.
T bone steak, to much seasoning for my liking and the cut was very boney with a lot of fat, however the second steak was completely different and far better. Staff where very friendly and the drinks good to. If the food was not over seasoned then I would have rated higher
I. J.
Not sure about the best Sunday roast on the island, more like the best Sunday roast in the UK. I had the pork, but everything looked terrific. Also very good beer, and excellent (albeit slightly harassed) staff. Cannot recommend highly enough
H. H.
We visited The Blacksmiths for the last supper of our holiday on the Island.
How lucky were we!
This old pub has stunning views and is
So attractive.
There was a wide variety of food on offer here. I had sea trout, delicately flavoured with a salad and French fries and my son
Had Pork belly in Apple sauce with crackling, black pudding etiquette and vegetables.
My sticky toffee pudding was blissful!
The flavours were fantastic and everything was presented to perfection.
Thank you
B. W.
As one of the highest reviewed pubs on the island that allow dogs I thought we would give it a try for lunch. When we arrived they were kind and accommodating showing us to a table but seemed a little shocked that we hadn't booked in advance.
To be fair given that it was early March, lunch time on a Tuesday, no holidays etc, it was soo busy! I'm not surprised now I've tasted the food!
I'm quite fussy, but opted to have the (huge) chicken breast with garlic butter. It was divine, melt in the mouth chicken. I've never been able to cook chicken like that. The added mushroom in the picture was from my partners mixed grill (a little oily) but still lovely. He was very impressed with the mixed grill as well, which was absolutely huge he ended up in a food coma and falling asleep when we got back to our accommodation!
I fully reccomend eating here yourself, but would probably advise booking a table first!
S. E.
Went with friends and we all really enjoyed our meals👍😋. The pavlova is wonderful, see pic! Can highly recommend the Newchurch pie too. Despite it being really busy staff were lovely - friendly and couldn't do enough for us 😁🍰

Delicious food and a varied menu, lovely views and pleasant staff
J. A.
Came here for lunch on birthday and it was just perfect in every way! The food was exceptional, beutifully presented and generous in terms of portion size. The menu was varied with plenty of choice. We were well looked after by the staff and made to feel very welcome. The view is gorgeous. I’ll certainly be back!
L. H.
Lovely pub with large garden and lots of seating, children's play frame, great location, 180° views towards mainland.
Fabulous lunch all looked and tasted homemade. Lambshank pie, half portions available, and beautiful beef brisket, vegetables and potatoes/chips.
Second visit here, will definitely come again.
K.
Amazing service and equally amazing food.
We were recommended to come and eat here and so glad that we did.
The sunset was stunning also!
R. H.
We arrived at The Blacksmiths in the dark with a great veiw over and accross the valley.
Every meal we had was excellent. I had a pea soup for starters and absolutely loved it. Mains, I had Lamb Rump, cooked to perfection. It had a proper amount of gravy, non of these little thimbles. I had extra portion of peas with mine. Just lovely.
No puddings needed as I was stuffed, I was surprised as I like my food and can eat loads.
We enjoyed a table service which was great. All the waitresses had impeccable lovable nature's and are a credit.
Next time we are on the Island this will be on our hit list for a visit.
Thanks to all the staff specially the chefs. Thanks.
c. y.
Great food, great view and a real great atmosphere. But really would advise booking in advance to make sure you get a table.
R. Z.
Fabulous views and fabulous food. Surprised to find one of the best katsu curry ever. The pub is lovely inside, great service and well priced.
I. K.
We choose this pub on our way home whilst holidaying on the Isle of Wight. We didn't have a booking and arrived at 6pm. We were lucky, there was only 1 table left. I would recommend to book in advance. The food was great, very well presented and very tasteful. I had the beef burger and my better half the sword fish burger. Both were delicious and good portion sizes. We had the strawberry pavlova for dessert and it was also a feast. I would definitely recommend. Too bad we don't live on the Isle of Wight!
G. P.
This is one of my favourite places to eat on the island. Have never had a bad meal here. There are light bite versions of some of the meals, which is great because the portions are generous. The views are beautiful and there is plenty of parking. Highly recommend the belly pork 👌
P. W.
WOW!
What a gem! The Newchurch pie is amazing. Any lamb lovers MUST try this meal.
Just make sure you save some room for a pudding.
C. D.
When we arrived on a windy cold day with a 6 month old baby we were sent down the bottom of the garden where the parasols and menus were flying about. We didn’t ask for this and when we asked to be moved one of the girls didn’t seem to know how to handle it.
I asked for the manager and Justine turned up. She apologised for the mix up and went above and beyond to make it up. She found a table for us inside, gave us first class service. Was very attentive. That is how service should be and she stopped us from going elsewhere. Service like that is hard to come by. The food was also amazing. Left very full and satisfied. Will go back. Would be 5 stars if it wasn’t for the mix up and a few other issues.
Ask for Justine.
T. C.
We went recently for a family lunch. The food was amazing, good portions and choices. The children's menu was very limited but delicious food. Great play areas for children of all ages. Spectacular views.
We'll be going back again and again!
T. S.
I absolutely love this pub, we have to visit every time we come to the Island. Excellent food, great service. Lovely and friendly
V. J.
Nice friendly staff nothing was to much trouble for them. Table service was fast and easy via a push button fob. The food was delicious and well priced. The view's from the garden area fantastic and inside table's were comfortable. Will definitely visit again soon
N. L.
Lovely ambience, happy attentive servers.
Such a wonderful menu, different to the usual offerings in most other places.
We had scallops followed by sea trout, and my husband had the Newchurch pie (which he loved). Everything was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully.
Highly recommend a visit to this restaurant...be warned, booking early is a must!
K. C.
Enjoyed an excellent meal with family members I had the chicken salad with chips and salad excellent freshly service and the views from the restaurant were stunning a must visit a very popular venue.
C. W.
Food excellent but they assume you will have read the menu, made your choices, been served, and eaten your food all in the space of one and a half hours. You know this because the next booking for your table is written on it. We like puddings but didn't have time for one.
R. L.
The food was so good we went the following night too! Really really good. The staff were lovely, even when they were rushed off their feet we felt well looked after. The children's play area is excellent and kept our boy entertained for ages.
D. H.
Can not fault it, a wonderful menu cooked and presented extremely well. Our meals looked and tasted amazing. The staff were attentive and friendly. The cost, very competitive. If you have not been there, try it you will not be disappointed.
S. M. (. S.
Fantastic Staff, great atmosphere, stunning views and incredible food. I had the mixed grill and each aspect of the meal was amazing. I forgot to take a photo of the pavlova but that was amazing too! Highly recommended
A. G.
Excellent food, attentive staff, lovely views.
c. m.
We have been here 2 years ago and I can honestly say it's the same as before it's great the food the staff are amazing
M. B.
Amazing food! Amazing friendly staff! Welcome a our two miniature dachshunds, with a water bowl and blanket for the dogs during our three visits to the pub whilst we stayed on the island for 5 days! Best pub ever!!!!!
A. R.
Lovely pub in the countryside with fantastic views over farm fields with grazing dairy cows and lakes in the distance over which the sun sets. Food is excellent with a good and varied specials board. Service is friendly and accommodative and there are a variety of seating options either inside or out. Drinks prices are reasonable, the place is very popular so booking in advance highly recommended.
M. 6.
Great food, great views and excellent service would definitely recommend
T.
OMG, what a place to eat!! Every course was wonderful, especially the strawberry pavlova. What I really liked was the fact that you can pick the size of your main and pud, great idea, less waste and better value.
When I visit the island again will definitely eat here again.
A. H.
This was a return visit for a family Sunday lunch. All our food was well cooked and the portions were of a good size. Prices were reasonable, with a small portion option on most choices.
After the observation last time, that the fish was overcooked, no such problems with any of our choices. Roast Beef, Chicken and Filthy Burgers. The only comment on the food, apart from we all enjoyed it, was that the mayonnaise ordered for chips came out in a skimpy ramekin and tasted like a budget brand, too much vinegar. The desserts were as good as ever and again a reasonable sized portion.
All in all the service staff and ambience was very good and the online booking system was straightforward with a helpful follow up.
V. K. V.
Excellent food and drinks on offer. Play area for kids is a bonus 😊
N. W.
Amazing food and service, even when they were really busy. Children loved it too, as there was a play area and the children's food was good. The strawberry pavlova was really nice... Make room for it!
D. B.
Wanted to check out this venue and we weren't disappointed. Great menu, lovely atmosphere and great staff plus very generous portions. Very well worth a visit 😊
S. M.
Great food once again. Beautiful views on a perfect summers evening. Staff friendly and helpful.
I. S.
Superb food and generous servings, have to say it was the best meal of our stay on the island. The pubs position is stunning, thoroughly enjoyed our visit and totally recommend you visit.
P. H.
Great food served by great staff in a lovely environment. What more do you need. Would highly recommend.
J.
Amazing and excellent tender food. Lamb was incredible recommend the Newchurch pie (Rob’s signature dish) shortcrust pastry pie!
Desserts 🧁 were fantastic. Will be coming here again.
On the picture is the Sunday roast and it was the best I’ve had. The pork was melt in the mouth and the beef was succulent as well as the chicken that tasted fresh!
J. L.
Really good. I don't see the reason to put a long review here. Very good prices and the food was fantastic. Wish I didn't need a ferry to get there!
S. B.
What a super setting. Lovely friendly staff. Great standard of food. Always something interesting on their specials board, but a super menu too.
Back at last, great safe organisation, and food still amazing.
Views all the way to Portsmouth on a clear day.
L. P.
Food and service excellent. Unfortunately we were seated in the conservatory adjacent to a party of 20 who were very loud and with a screaming brat. Not the pubs fault I know but it marred our experience .
A. C.
Lovely food had roast and sticky toffee pudding after but both dinner and pudding spoiled by being luke warm on cold plates, all 3 of us had same problem with our meals. No one came to ask how meal was and staff were busy and hard to catch and we were starving, would of been 5 instead of 4 if warm. Real let down as so unnecessary and careless and a let down to chef who had done their job by cooking great meals for all 3 of us. A few others also said their food was luke warm so I think either not enough staff or not enough attention to bringing food out quickly once its dished up by chef. Schoolboy error letting the pub down and so careless and unnecessary. Real shame
D. G.
Lovely meals. Slightly more expensive than the standard in the area, but is reflected in the quality of the food. Definitely worth a visit
D. G.
Nice pub with decent food and fantastic views. Be warned, for the menu options with large and small options, the large are very large!
S. W.
Wonderful food, excellent service even though they were really busy. Highly recommend booking anytime for one of the best meals on the island.
J. P.
Lovely food, lovely staff beautiful views. What more can you ask. Will definitely go again.
P. G.
Great food, great location, and attentive friendly staff. Lovely play area for the kids overlooking beautiful scenery and the food was top class.
E. H.
Absolutely the best meal we have had on the island, the food was amazing, staff are friendly and welcoming, dogs are very welcome inside, and they even provide a doggie blanket for them,
Z. T.
Excellent food, great portion sizes worth every penny, and always able to cater to my dietary requirements. Worth driving out to.
K. G.
Been a few times over the years when on Holiday in IOW. Always had cracking food, took our friends this time and they were really impressed with the quality, not over priced for such good food.
C. H.
One of my favourite restaurants of ALL time. Food is fresh, full of flavour and never disappoints. The service has always been second to none. The little farriers menu always delivers for our 4 year old and their crumble dessert i wish could be delivered to the mainland!
L. W.
Lovely food .Great staff.only down side just table service for drinks
R. W.
Very friendly and great service and even better food all round ....simply the best pub on the island 😊
B. C.
Quality and ambience!
Service excellent.
Worth visiting but you need to book.
j. b.
Lovely food, service and great views
N. C.
It was easy to book a table, which was ready for us on arrival. Service was prompt and efficient even though the restaurant was busy. Food was very good, and the option of large or small portions was much unappreciated. Even though it was a Tuesday, there were many customers and all tables were full, but there were no delays. The bill was available immediately on request and was accurate. This was an enjoyable meal and was good value.
r. w.
This is the best place in our opinion to eat. Excellent service fantastic food and friendly staff. Can’t beat it. As a resident would highly recommend. Oh and the view is amazing. 🥰 Our friends thoroughly enjoyed their meal today as we always do. 👏👏
M. T.
This place...if you haven't tried it...is the best food I've had in a long time with signature dishes to die for...our anniversary today..and we chose here because we wanted somewhere we hadn't gone before...and I've passed this place so many times..but in the recommendation of a friend we tried it and we WILL be returning very soon!!!! Thank you all for a great experience
A. R.
Well we arrived at 5pm sat and had a drink, table service inside , button service or app outside, what a fab meal and the view was wonderful, the Newchurch pie had been recommended and did not dissapoint, there were two serving sizes, one for smaller appetite which was good as my elderly father wanted a smaller portion, vegetables were perfect and enough for the both of us...it soon filled up which proved it to be a popular venue for people on holiday and locals .
A. M.
Nice food. Very busy, but think thats a good sign! Great views
J. M.
You need to book if going for a meal as it is very popular.Situated overlooking a panoramic view towards the Solent.Plenty of parking on road level and lower level. There are plenty of tables outside as well as inside . A window seat is obviously desirable to enjoy the views of which there are several ( windows).
The staff are friendly, efficient and polite. A varied menu and the fact that it is always busy indicates it's popularity.
T. R.
Lovely setting with views over the North of the Island and the Solent.
Food is excellent and generously portioned. Reasonable wine list. Attentive service.
Will definitely be returning.
D. G.
Excellent Sunday Roast lunch, service and very good value for money. Would highly recommend. A beautiful venue in such lovely surroundings too.
D. C.
We had a lovely lunch today at The Blaksmiths. The location is fantastic and the food is very good. Could not fault the service, friendly and helpful. Photo of the view attached.
H. W.
Food great and staff friendly. Very good service. No complaints. Best pub we have been to here.
R. T.
Great pub! Varied menu. Attentive staff. Wonderful views. Must go there again!
L. T.
Excellent food, friendly staff and a great view.
All completely let down by an insistence (certainly for patio customers) to use a clunky, dysfunctional web app to order food and drinks.
M. B.
We had a lovely evening, food was great and the staff were very friendly.
Definitely recommend but would advise booking up as its rather popular.
S. W.
Called in on our way past. Enjoyed sitting on the garden for an hour before going inside for a meal. Lovely meal, friendly staff.
E. J.

Really friendly staff, great food, lovely views
Excellent play area to run off the food for the kids.
R. H.
Great view, nice seats outside, did not try food this time but normally one of the best on Island.
M. C.
Large portions but tasty food, very helpful staff who are cheerful. Roast lunch was fabulous!
G. S.
Despite being extra busy the service was friendly and the server had lots of personality. Food was tasty and good value

L. B.
We really enjoyed our meal, incredible food, even better dessert! Will def be back!
J. a. N. F.
Excellent service and food as always perfect and my Dad who is very fussy about pies said the pie was tasty and meaty best he has had in along time ☺️
M. C.
Lovely food and superb views, it pays to book as they get busy
O. M.
Had the filthy animal burger and a side of freckles. Absolutely amazing food and service was great 👍 thanks for a lovely experience we will be back soon
B. &. S. S.
Really good quality food, good service. I will be going again. Interesting menu. Having returned a year later it is at least as good as it was with top quality food and staff. A joy! You must book to get in.
W. S.
We rang from the car park on Mothering Sunday, as sure they would be full up. We were accommodated right away in the garden, as they were fully booked. We ordered the beef Sunday lunch, and seriously the best Sunday lunch I have ever had!!! It arrived quickly, was hot, well presented, with a lovely variety of vegetables. Portions well sized, not stingy but not overwhelming either, just right. Beef was too die for! Moved to the Island nearly a year ago, and try and get somewhere different each month. This has put the mockers on that as will definitely come here again and again. Thanks staff, you were great, thank you.
L. H.
Excellent food and service lovely views need to book gets very busy
t. b.
Fantastic meal ,great service and totally amazing views. Had a totally fab evening.
S. W.
Bit of a mission to book a table due to being popular, but definitely worth the wait. Excellent food and beer.
m. h.
This is voted best pub on the IOW for good reason. Rachel and her team looked after us and our 2 little dogs very well. Nothing seems too much trouble for this seemingly very accomplished business.
The food was truly something else. Timely service and well presented. Tasted delicious, quality ingredients cooked beautifully, inventive and best of all good portion sizes. 3 of us trained chefs so what a treat. Well done to the chefs in the kitchen.
Wasn't expensive and good value for money with superior views and fun for the kids outside

If the only view you had from the beer garden was of a brick wall, you'd happily sit because the food is so good. In fact this pub has one of the best views on the Isle of Wight,.Go for the food, or the view. You won't be disappointed.
j. j.
Fantastic staff, very accommodating on a 60th birthday celebration.
Every item on the menu is perfect. You can't go wrong with any meal choice.
Location has lovely views and some outside seating for hotter days.
Small kids play area which is ideal and two large car parks for plenty of parking.
Love this place every time I visit Isle of Wight. Book in advance recommended as this is a very popular place to eat.
S. S.
Stopped here for Saturday lunch. Good choice of menu dishes, plus specials board with some interesting dishes. Service was friendly and efficient with minimal waiting time even though very busy at that time. Food was very tasty and well worth the visit.
D. P.
The food was good and portions generous. The different with other pubs they charge a lot and the food portions are poor quality and smaller
They will loose there regular customers
Don't change and your be above the others and get repeat custom.
Kind regards Dave
J. J.
Absolutely fabulous location, staff and food! Can't recommend enough. Stop serving lunch at 2.30. Excellent 👌
R. H.
Recently voted best pub/restnt on the island - not sure of exact award but they damn well deserve it! Great food, friendly service and my goodness...what a view! Best to book - not my slots though please!
J. M.
I booked a table to celebrate a friend's 60th. Everything about our meal was perfect: the portions, the choices, the quality and originality of the food. The service was consistently spot on from everyone who served us. I also think for the quality and quantity, the prices are very competetive. I'm an island dweller and for me, this is the best place to eat on the island. Thank you Blacksmiths!
a. s.
Fantastic food. You will not be disappointed 😌
W. S.
Had a lovely Sunday roast in here with a summer Berry and apple crumble and a cheese board
M. B.
We pre booked for sunday lunch...sitting outside on plastic sofas with coffee table was.nt ideal but the food was good...it would have been nice if we had been offer one of the empty tables with chairs..good varied menu at reasonable prices..play area and picnic tables make it good for children...limited space for people who cannot do steps or multiple changes in floor levels ...parking can be difficult in busy times
R. S.
Really, really nice food. Had the lite bite fish and chips - was excellently cooked. The peas presented in an espresso mug made.me smile.
Fantastic views towards Parkhurst Forest and the North East Coast of the island.
One word of warning though. No wheelchair access so if one of your party is disabled you will struggle. Also book ahead or you won't get seated.
A. W.
Very good food and view
M. M.
Got the without a booking and they were very busy but managed to find us a table.
Friendly staff and excellent food.
Well done.
J. M.
Great food, excellent service. Would recommend it

Never dissatisfied. Food always superb. Staff friendly and efficient, even when extremely busy. Love the small or large portion options. My only disappointment was that the Waffle dessert was not on the menu.
G. T.

Nice pub, not too busy with good food. Booked in advance. They allow dogs.
J. S.
Good, tasty food in rustic surroundings. Stunning views.
j. m.
Went in on the off chance of getting a table which we did(recommend booking) and was not disappointed. Lovevly food the chicken was cooked to perfect and hardly needed cutting. Defo recommend will be back soon!

Went for a spur of the moment mid afternoon meal. No room inside, but such a perfect day, we sat outside in the sun and enjoyed such a stunning view. The food was beautiful. I opted for the pie and was not disappointed to say the least, the pastry was divine and the gravy so flavoursome.
Lucky for us we had a little room for a apple crumble and custard for dessert. A truly lovely end to such a wonderful day. Thank you.
R. V. D. B.
The food and service was excellent Rachel the land lady is always welcoming and ensures you are satisfied. The views from the garden is breathtaking
C. S.
We had a fantastic family meal there last night. Such a beautiful pub with amazing views and a great play area for the kids. The food was outstanding but the service from the waitress Yasmin was what stood out most. She was helpful, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you.
A. B.
Delicious food in a lovely location someplace hidden in the hills of the Isle of Wight
B. B.
What a nice place, friendly happy staff who do there job well. A great menu from the usual pub food to really super dishes all served beautifully. Will be going again.
E. &. S. K.
Nice views from the garden. They weren't serving food when we got there but i saw they had a selection of vegan ice creams so assume they can cater for dairy free diet if that helps you :)
L. R.
Food was amazing and staff very helpful. Will definitely visit again, I recommend a visit to the Blacksmith Arms. And the view is fantastic!
N. M.
Great pub situated up high with an amazing view...Ale was good.... large car park & stepped garden...kitchen opens at 5pm ..hence 4*

Had a superb meal. Service was attentive and friendly and puddings were awesome. Really really good evening all round 🙂
M. P.
Lovely pub, really delicious food and wide choice too,not the usual burgers etc.The staff were so friendly and service super quick, amazing views from the terrace and garden. A real gem, will definately be back

First lunch away since having our baby girl over a year ago, and the food was absolutely exquisite! We used to come here a lot before the baby and it's only gotten better since! Amazing service, food was incredible! A fantastic first lunch date for me and partner as our first one away from wee bubs. Blacksmiths continues to be our favorite place on the island!
S. T.
The Blacksmiths is a lovely pub with great food and lovely views. We moved to the island last year and have yet to find anywhere better to eat. Any house guests are taken there for a meal out and the service has always been great. Sadly last night was not the case which was disappointing. Had it been our first visit we would not be returning due to an extremely unfriendly waitress who seemed incapable of interacting or smiling and who managed to make us feel as if we were an inconvenience. Not someone I would want to employ as a representative of my business! Another waitress brought some of our drinks over on a very wet tray which made the table very wet and no offer was made to clear up the mess. Two people's drinks didn't arrive and we had to ask for them again. Staff can make or break a business. This is the first time we have had an issue here, all the other staff are very nice, friendly and welcoming but this one experience, had it been our first visit, would have ensured we didn't return or recommend to anyone else. A shame that one person can have such a negative effect on a business when other people, including the owners, are working hard to make your visit enjoyable.

Excellent place for lunch , nice staff and old pub feel
C. O.
Beautiful location. Excellent menu and fantastic food. A warm and lively atmosphere pervades. If you're lucky you will be served by Justine who waits with confidence, clarity and great charm. We just knew all would be well when she handled our order.. and it was !! The chef deserves an award.. all in all a wonderful and uplifting evening. Book before if you can.
K. W.
Amazing food and lovely staff
M. H.
Fantastic views from a lovely stepped garden....ale was good too...have not tried the food as the kitchen didn't open till 5 pm
c. c. l.
My husband used to go here regularly when he worked on the nearby masts 20 plus years ago. The staff, food, were lovely, the bathroom spotlessly clean, had ham egg ( egg cooked just as I like them) and chips (smaller portion, but there was more than enough) and they do smaller option desserts which were yummy. Thank you.
D. B.
Stunning views, beautiful outside space! Haven't tried the food, we hadn't booked so could not get a table. Service was slow but I think that was because they were very busy. Staff were brilliant, very helpful and accommodating. Only downside is ordering via an app which didn't work too well.
A. M.
Really friendly atmosphere and high quality food, excellent value for money.
j. w.
Really good range of dishes, well cooked. Staff helpful and friendly
K. R.
Excellent quality food and wonderful views.. good prices too.
C. L.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Very good portions cooked very well with plenty of choice. Roast dinners are excellent. Desserts are great too if you have room! Service was good. Everything you'd want from a pub meal.
S. C.
Cracking Pub..A Star Sunday lunch. Very busy. I would book a table in advanced.

Great food and friendly staff
L. H.
Awesome food! Pork belly is hard to get perfect apparently. I also had the worst headache and they girls helped me find some pain relief which was super appreciated 😃 would definitely recommend ❤️
N. P. (.
Nice food with fantastic views and full table service
G. W.
Fantastic views, great choice of beers etc
J. E.
I'm told by my Airbnb host that this is The Place to go for Sunday dinner. Apparently it's the place to go anytime. I stopped in for a pint on a Tuesday at lunch and the place was packed. It wasn't bad outside so I took a bench table and ordered me a little lunch, figs with brie. I recommend that you stop what you're doing right now and go get this. The view alone is worth the drive (or flight).
K. B.
I always say that to rate a new kitchen have a steak which was very good although let down by the ghastly chips (frozen mash chip shaped)
M. M.
Excellent food we had belly pork with mash and lots of fresh vegetables. I had the smaller portion which was quite enough for me. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service quick. We will certainly visit again.
H. S.
Delicious food, really lovely staff and very dog friendly. They even supplied a doggie blanket for our 4 legged friends to lay on, that was a lovely touch.
G. R.
Great food and lots of it.
Big garden with great views.
N. M.
Service was prompt and friendly. Food was to die for!! Highly recommended 🙂
S. M.
Best place I've eaten at for a long time. Food was amazing. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Service, very good, the most beautiful countryside views from the windows, and would highly recommend.
N. J.
Lovely location serving an amazing choice of food and local Ales. Stopped for lunch and was certainlly not diaappointed. Will make a return trip at the next possible opportunity. Customer service from the staff was welcoming and friendly with a lovely local atmosphere. Overall a really great find.
E. E.
Having read all the great reviews we turned up without a booking hoping they could accommodate us, thankfully they did! Nothing was too much trouble, we sat outside with an amazing view, the food was delicious and the service was second to none! Hats off to the owners, they have got it down to a fine art!
M. R.
Very friendly place and dog friendly.
The lamb pie was very good.
S. S.
We coincidentally passed it on our way through th Island. Stopped for early dinner and had the best experience ever. The food was excellent both for the adults and for the children who loved it as well. A very unique menu and the prices were actually cheaper than all our other dinners which followed which didn’t have anywhere near the quality food what we got at the Blacksmith. The service was brilliant, really fast and friendly.
P. M.
Described to us as "a very popular place" we were lucky to book a table 48 hrs ahead. The place was busy but the friendly and efficient staff had it all organised and we had a good meal and enjoyed the visit. Thanks to the hard working and very professional staff.
J. G.
We ate here for 3 of our evening meals while on holiday on the isle of Wight because the food was so good and the staff so welcoming and friendly. The stand out dish was the Newport pie with the brisket a close second. Highly recommend!
G. D.
Newchurch pie was loved by 3 of our group. Sorbets and strawberry pavlova also very recommended.
B. S.
Wow what a fabulous place, very welcoming and helpful staff, with magnificent views across to the Solent. The star of course is the unusually large and varied menu choice, all of which appear to be home made, no bought in pub food here, I would assume. The piece de resistance is a dessert range to die for. Naturally your best to reserve a table to avoid disappointment. Definitely deserving repeat visits.
S. M.
Excellent meai, great choice including specials.Friendly staff.
T. H.
We had to pre-book but I'm so glad we did, all the staff were lovely and the food was amazing! Great specials board and I ended up having 3 courses which I never do because everything looked so nice. Highly recommend!
T.
We had a really nice meal here with my family. Quality food and service, with a wide variety on offer catering for all tastes incl. vegan and vegetarian. Love setting as well.
I. D.
Fantastic service, great food. Would definitely recommend to others
L. A.
Lovely Katsu chicken curry. And a lovely evening with friends. Some had the small portion meal so there was room for pudding!!
H. W.
Excellent food eaten in the garden with delightful views!
C. Y.
Great food, good service and it was nice and warm in there unlike some other pubs I've been in recently. Book a table though because it gets very busy.

The interior seating area is lovely with scenic view. The food is beautifully presented, fresh and full of flavour. The service was inviting, friendly and helpful. Highly recommend to anyone wishing to have a superb evening out.
Well done to the BlackSmiths Arms team! Top service
P. M.
Lots of room, dog friendly and yummy deserts! Perfect for a quiet drink in the snug bar, cocktails outside or a large dinner parts for 10

Me. And my partner are regular visitors to the blacksmiths pub, fabulous location and excellent food
J. C.
Fantastic food, in a lovely location. Helpful staff, reasonable prices for the quality.
I. S.
Great chocolate fondant and amazing service. The staff are lovely!
P. M.
The best "Pub Grub" I've ever had. A party of 8 and our food all arrived together. The service was a little slow...... but they were busy and the food was well worth waiting for.
A. A.
A fantastic location. Great views. Good ale and fantastic food. Try the lamb shank pie or pork belly. Great.
L. R.
We return time after time here , we don’t go anywhere else when we visit the island for lunch .
Frickles =❤️ Amazing views and very polite and friendly waitresses. My partners great grandparents used to visit here 70+ years ago so we also like the connection there .
C. S.
Great location, and good food...my partner had the Lamb pie and he said it was delicious...I had a small steak and ale pie but it was very dry...Next time I will choose the Lamb pie.
d. b.
Probably the best pub food on the island
Y. w. E. S.
Top nosh. Delicious pub food. Charming service & lots of atmosphere. We had a tasty meal. My vegan Wellington was exceptional.
Their Covid procedures made us feel both safe & welcome. Can’t wait to visit again. X
S. D.
Lovely food, facilities and service as always
R. M.
Beautiful food, very polite and attentive staff. Came recommended and if back in town would certainly visit again.
M. G.
Brilliant food and friendly staff
A. D.
Lovely, friendly place. Staff very polite, order came quick. Fresh, amazing quality. Highly recomended.
L. W.
Although we only had a drink here, so don't know what the food is like, it's a beautiful pub with fantastic views. The waitresses were all working their socks off and were really polite and helpful.
L. H.
Lovely evening food was amazing. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Kids had a great time in the play area. Overall a very enjoyable evening! Thank you!
L. M.
Couldn't fault the food, the place or the staff. Excellent!
S. G.
Food was excellent as usual (as was the case with the Pointer) and came very quickly. However, it is best to use the app to order and pay as the staff seemed uncoordinated and few team members meant delays on drinks orders arriving promptly and then taking time to pay! Our drinks arrived after our meal arrived and we had to ask for them, as did lots of other customers.
C. H.
Beautiful views, worth a visit. Small play park for the kids too.
J. D.
My beef sandwich was epic! Wife loved her meal too daughter loved her chicken nuggets (they were unlike any chicken nuggets I've ever seen but were really nice) I recommend this place, perfect view and kids play area too!
R. W.
Brilliant from start to finish. Plenty of parking, amazing newly renovated play area for the kids, age specific with slides and castle for 5-10 and toddler area with little cars and wall games! Please maintain these areas as they are an awesome asset.
Staff were beyond polite and efficient, food (whole place and beef brisket) high restaurant quality and beer was fresh and clean!
Amazing views, all covid precautions in place, clean, simply perfect for adults and kids and groups!
We will be back! Thank you.
I. B.
The food was truly scrumptious 😋 yummy, yummy, got all the food in my tummy 😋.
Very popular place, so book in Advance..
C. A.
Fantastic place fantastic food will definitely be back

Great food, great scenery, great beers, friendly staff, A1
S. B.
Fabulous food. Outstanding views . Staff were so friendly and helpful
J. P.
Great food, pod service and s Devine view on a warm summer's day.
j. (.
Sunday lunch beef brisket absolutely great
K. S.
Food was amazing, spot on. The views and place itself are fabulous. They are obviously getting used to new measures and ask you to use an app to order your food. The menu is on a wall which you need to take a picture of before going to your table. The app can take some time which is a little frustrating but it does work. Shame we had to ask for our water twice, knives and forks and had to wait for our table to be cleared a long while. Amazing play area for the kids. Overall really good and would recommend.
T. W.
Great food and venue, would recommend.
M.
Lovely food and great service 👍
l.
Went there for my daughters birthday, must say its one of the best meals I've had, and the service was so good
K. D.
Excellent food, great service and fantastic views during the day - and reasonably priced too.
B. L. F.
Good food and reasonable prices, service can be a little slow at busy times.
S. W.
Fantastic food (Gnocchi which was excellent) but very poor acoustics where we were sat. So noisy I couldn't think straight 😱😱😱
D. M.
We went here on a Friday evening without making a reservation because we didn't expect it to be necessary. However when we got there we realized that the place was packed and in fact many people were waiting for a table. Since there were only two of us we got a table right away. So I believe reserving a table would be a good idea.
Inside the place was nicely decorated. They also had a beautiful garden that I reckon one can enjoy for lunch.
We ordered our foods that were fish and meat. The food arrived in no time and it was very delicious.
The greatest thing about this pub, however, was the service. The servers went out of their way to be accommodating and helpful.
We're leaving the island tomorrow, but if we ever get back we'll remember this place.
G. A.
Great food. Massive portions. Amazing view, super customer service. Highly recommend.
T. C.
Very good meal was good atmosphere and service was very good would definitely recommend and lovely views .😀
L. H.
One of the best places to eat on the island.
C. F.
Great food with Amazing sunset
M. G.
Our favourite restaurant ! Food is always amazing ....great atmosphere.... friendly attentive staff and wonderful views !
J. E.
Beautiful pub, lovely beer garden.
R. C.
Food was excellent. But their app to order hung up and delayed our order. We also ended up paying twice because a payment was initially pending as the app caused problems. Still waiting on a refund - was promised someone would call us back yesterday- still hasn't happened.
K. p.
Wow, the food here was amazing! It was recommended by someone we got talking to on a beach while on holiday and it did not disappoint! Justine was serving and could not be more helpful. This will definitely be on the list the next time we visit the Island.
F. A.
Lovely food, lovely service and a lovely location!
A. S.
Service: warm and impeccable.
Environment: perfect for couples, families and families with children.
Food: best pub food on the island.
Price: unbeatable!
Hosted 16 of us, all ages. Staff were extremely vigilant, warm and kind to all members of our group, spanning between 1 year and 90 years. A wonderful atmosphere and a great sense of excellent value and uncompromised quality.
Thank you!
a. k.
Excellent service and delicious lunch (starter and main). Felt very safe at our table in the top bar although the other rooms were quite busy.
M. L.
Wonderful views. Lovely garden and children's play area. Great food and beer. Very good service. All for a reasonable price.
I. M.
Very good pub, the food was fantastic.
J. M.
Great place to eat, my partner took me here for an early birthday lunch and it was amazing. Can't fault the staff or food, we will be back soon :)
a. c.
After eating many wonderful meals at the Pointer Inn, we had to try Blacksmiths now it has been taken over by same people!
Food is amazing! Freshly cooked and decent portions- proper hearty meals full of flavour.!!
The prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality of the good.
Service was excellent too.
The views from the building and terrace are beautiful and an added bonus.
Thank you, we will be back!
S. G.
Had a great family meal there. Food and service top notch. Make sure you book beforehand as it is very popular.
A. H.
Great food, great service and fantastic views! What a lovely place to eat, relax and enjoy the perfect setting 👍
S. R.
Amazing food as usual.
Super friendly staff and rapid service 😁
Newchurch pie is always a winner 🏆 special burger was insane 😋
W. B.
We had one of your takeaway meals on Saturday, couldn't fault it absolutely fabulous huge portions amazing presentation even In a takeaway carton. Thank you and wish you all the success you deserve it .See you on the other side wish you every success .
R. H.
Amazing views, good choice of drinks and food. Great stop off on the way
R. G.
Always one of our favourite places, it was an eat in eat out night, bookings only - but heaving, staff still on form tho , smiling, attentive & like small hurricanes. Food didn't drop in standard & as always we loved our choices, melt in the mouth belly pork, bbq braised brisket & signature burger, puddings a must but would suggest a smaller main to accommodate or share 😋😋😋would recomend booking as always busy & the sunset is a bonus
S. B.
Different location still great food.
We have frequented the Poonter Inn on many occasions because of the amazing food. We weren't overly surprised to find that the owners had decided to concentrate their efforts on their second acquisition, the Blacksmiths.
We booked online which was incredibly easy. Thanks to Mr Johnson just about everyone was there for food and parking was difficult. Also it was crazy busy and although the staff were rushed off their feet they remained friendly and efficient.
We downloaded the app and ordered and paid for drinks and food at the table , also very easy. The food was still outstanding and well worth a visit.
C. G.
Fantastic for Sunday lunches. £10 for a truly epic feed, excellent roast beef with literally all the trimmings and more. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is hot and the views through the giant dining room windows are lovely. Definitely book ahead as it gets busy (unsurprisingly!) but this is quite easily the best place to go for Sunday lunch on the entire island!
P. H.
Friendly and attentive staff, fabulous food and Covid precautions in place. Definitely recommend it.
A. R.
Great roast lamb, food came very quickly and was all very good. All orders are done via the app, which is fine, but a little bit of common sense would be appreciated... Asking a passing staff member for some tap water should be perfectly OK, rather than having to log back into the app just to give the same message.
I. A.
Really delicious food at very reasonable price. The takeaway service is lovely and the packaging is very environmentally friendly and beautiful. It feels like a really special treat.
C. O.
Absolutely fantastic service, the staff couldn’t do enough for us to accommodate a pram and helped move our table. Food was the usual highest standard & delicious, the puddings are to die for 😋
S. G.
First class meal, service was outstanding....if you go during the day views are awesome.
F. B.
Lovely food in very nice surroundings, beautiful views. Staff friendly and helpful. Reasonable prices and small portions on offer. Can recommend.
P. L.

Loved this place years ago! I've not eaten or drunk here for a little while but it's a beautiful place too visit or go out of your way for! I'll be there soon for food I'll let you know!
A. G.
Need to book. Good play area ( swings and climbing frame with slides) with under 5s provision too. Great food and great service. Beautiful sunsets
S. B.
Had a joint Ruby wedding anniversary and retirement dinner, there were 13 of us, the food was fantastic, service excellent, great staff and we have a lovely time
K. T.
Lovely food, service and garden. I had the lamb shank pie which was beautiful, the burger is tasty and the kids meals were not processed food but homemade with a much care as the adults which is refreshing! A lovely eating experience. Thank you
S. E.
Service and food excellent good value
N. I.
The black Smith arms always has one of the best atmosphere for a pub restaurant the staff are warm and welcoming the food it just always so sumptuously tasty and the portions are generous it looks and tastes like a 5 star hotel the surrounding area is breath taking with the view of the sea and rolling fields all around there is ample parking a playground for the kids to play so one word of advice book in advance its seriously busy here but it's so well managed and your not left waiting around long come along and enjoy one of the island best place
a. D.
Excellent food.
Served quickly.
Service is prompted.
Waiting service and bar service.
C. K.
Absolutely the best pub on the island! Just had the most exquisite local plaice, the best service and topped off with a wonderful sunset, life doesn't get much better, thank you Rachel and Rob xxxxx
R. S.
Good food based on an interesting menu. Great views from the dinning area.
J. F.
Had a fabulous take out meal on 5th March, great portions and lovely food, couldn't fault it. We had camembert for starters, one lamb shank pie and one belly pork, both excellent and great service.
B. G.
Best pub grub on the island. Food is incredible, staff are friendly. Views are incredible. A must visit if your on the island.
M. B.
Book in advance. We were lucky when turn up Wednesday to get s table as this pub seem to be very popular. Food great
E. B.
Best food on the Isle Of Wight without a doubt! Every time I have been, the food has been well presented, fresh ingredients and delicious!! Staff give a very warm and polite dining experience. Lovely pub interior and beautiful views! This pub is an absolute must! The Newchurch Pie is my favourite dish.
N. W.
Visited here for an early evening family meal and thoroughly enjoyed it, food and service were superb.
J. W.
Great food and friendly staff. Nice views. Book in advance.
S. B.
Wonderful smiley friendly service, the food we ordered, scampi and chips ( the small one) was hot, fresh and really tasty, not overcooked like most places.
Oh boy, the view from the tables out the back on the grass.
A. K.
I wanted to e-mail or message the restaurant privately with feedback but no option , so I am forced to leave this public review. We had booked a table to have a dinner with friends that travelled 3 hours across mainland plus ferry to visit and we wanted to show them the place as we always liked the food at Pointers . I have booked far in advance, left my phone number and asked for a specific table and it was booked . I found the waitress when booked a bit unhappy if not unfriendly. Zero smile , as she was doing us a favour . Maybe tired ... I don’t know . When we arrived on the day we have been directed to the dark part of the pub . I have then explained we had been promised another table . Youngster at the bar was dry and said that it was impossible as it was booked already by someone else . This made me feel very uncomfortable. The table was eventually given to us but nice atmosphere was spoiled . Our visitors paid the bill and we haven’t been aware of the extreme sum that was calculated and it would go amiss if our friend’s partner had not noticed that the bill was suspiciously high. They had phoned the pub and rectified this : the balance from previous guests on that table had not been cleared . However I am upset that- despite the error being noticed by the staff after we had left , I was not phoned to inform and refund !
Food good. Owner was nice and tried her best .
Atmosphere spoiled anyway. Unpleasant experience. We might visit again , I don’t know...probably not very soon .
p. w.
Amazing views across, food was lovely and service was quick
s. h.
What a fabulous place! Warm friendly staff and absolutely delicious food. We popped in for a snack and had the salt beef sandwich, a great choice! Would highly recommend, the views are amazing!
A. P.
Lovely local pub. Staff were very accommodating when we turned up with dogs. Food was brilliant, all of us enjoyed our meals. Would recommend to anyone.
J. R.
The food was great
The service was awful, the waitress did not smile greet or introduce herself.
She was hurrying us up. She kept on coming over to our table asking if we'd finished! Yet I was just about to put a chip in my mouth.
We had to ask for sauces. Not good!!
L. W.
Lovely position. Lovely, good value food. Thoroughly recommend 😊
A. B.
Stumbled across this pub on a walk with the kids. Absolutely lovely view. The childrens' play area has been enhanced, kept them entertained for ages. Small but welcome choice of local ale, glad we stopped for a refuel!
C. W.
Fabulous place with great views. Good food.
C. K.
Food choice and quality superb with excellent service. Views spectacular !
Looking forward to returning soon!
M. C.
Went on a friend recommendation with a family of 5 and was suitably impressed
D. M.
Superb food every time I’ve been and that’s a lot of times. The Newchurch Pie is a must, but try a ploughman’s if your looking for sheer artistry in cuisine. All food on offer is exquisite and the idea of a choice of size of portions is a clever move for the smaller eater. Great staff must also be mentioned as well.
D. S.
Really lovely meal. Staff very friendly. Can use an app to order food and drink and love the call button on the tables to alert the waiters(ress).
J. B.
Great food and beautiful locations. Nice play as area for smaller children too
M. S.
Impresive, excellent food lovely setting good staff . As soon as someone left tables cleaned straight away. 10 out of ten
S. U.
Excellent service, excellent food, just brill

Great menu with unexpededly good choice of food which was unanimously enjoyed despite our diverse palettes including a vegetarian of 11 people including 3 childen. Fabulous view from the veranda.
R. C.
Always good food and helpful staff.
H. H.
Stunning views along with delicious food. Great service especially during these difficult times. Appreciated the effort the pub had gone to regarding social distancing.
P. E.
Really lovely food! Shame about the abundance of dogs.....fine outside in the summer, but not indoors!
F. H.
Fabulous meal - Newchurch pie is delicious & small size was ample! Fantastic view from our table on a sunny autumnal day. Highly recommend.
I. B.
This is a popular pub. Booking essential even early midweek in the winter. Lovely homemade food
H. K.
Fabulous service & food on Saturday 22nd Jan, special thanks to Justine for coping & organising us all, totally recommended
L. H.
Fantastic food. We had two meals here during our stay and both times had a fab meal. Looking forward to coming back to the island and the pub!
A. P.
Very busy the night we came so service was slow but our waitress was run off her feet! Food was nice but nothing special. Great spot for a sunset though!
M. M.
Had a wonderful meal yesterday.. The Newchurch pie is absolutely delicious.. The staff as always are very hard working but attentive.. Never had a bad meal there.. Excellent
S. B.
My family and I love eating at The Blacksmiths Arms for both an easy family pub lunch in the sun during the day, and also for dinner in the evening for celebrating birthdays etc.
The Risotto is my favourite, followed by the well known signature pie, however the specials board always has something that tempts me away from the extensive menu. Be sure to leave room for pudding though, especially the yummy pavlova!
Any dietary requirements have always been adhered and catered for- a friend has said the GF Yorkshire puddings are the best she's had.
I've also noted a new children's play area has been added this Summer, so we will definitely
be booking in again soon.
C. G.
Second visit to this fantastic pub/restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Thanks to Rachel and her team for helping my wife Madeline enjoy her birthday last evening.
G. C. R. S.
Truly wonderful.... fantastic food

S. G.
Great views and better food...
L. R.
Food was absolutely lovely. Beautiful setting. Staff were abrupt so only 4 stars. Booking advised as very busy.
G. P.
Staff were very nice, the Pie and Ceaser Salad were very tasty, would not recommend the burgers though.
Great views and seating areas 😊
D. G.
Beautiful meal at the Blacksmith's Arms! Hubby and I went with our bestie's as a pre Christmas do. It was busy, and I certainly know some people that would have felt neglected and a little grumpy, but considering it's Christmas and COVID, they all did a brilliant job! I had pork belly, hubby garlic and onion chicken, one had the turkey dinner and the last the game pie. All was delicious! Special food for pub grub, would like a little more veg as there was one portion between me and turkey dinner, but other than that would highly recommend!
K. G.
I popped in for a quick half today before my bus was due and placed an order for half a Fosters and a bag of crisps. There was quite a few in the restaurant so the girls were busy and it was getting close to my bus being due, so I said to one of the servers that I only had 8 minutes left and would have to leave. She immediately went behind the bar and came back with my order with a smile. I've never been to the Blacksmiths Arms before but one things for sure, I'll be back. Thank you very much for your consideration.

My wife and I visited this establishment last week for sunday lunch. It had been recomended to us to eat there and I must say, it lived up to the recomendation and more.
To start with, we had booked a table (we were advised to do this as it gets very busy at that time), we parked the car in the car park, (there was ample space fpr us) and went inside.
It was very busy as I had been lead to believe, we were shown to our table by the very friendly waitress and were handed the menus.
We had already decided before we went in, that we would have a carvery roast dinner (again recomended).
We placed our order with the waitress and at the same time, gave her our order for drinks.
Looking around the place whilst we waited for our food, it was very noticeable that other patrons plates, were very full of good looking and apetising food.
The drinks arrived just ahead of the food, and when we saw what we were going to have, my wife said she thought she couldn't eat it all, the size of the portions were very good.
We continue to munch our way through it, and believe it or not, my wife actually finished her plate full without sharing it with me.
She didn't want a dessert, as she was full, but I did, and again, placed the order and it came quite quickly to me.
Again, that was full of value and very tasty.
We also had coffee after we finished it all, and sat back a while to let us digest what we had eaten.
The waitress came across and asked us if we needed anything else, to which we replied we didn't, just bring the bill so that we could pay it.
We duly left and each of us reflected everything about the place. We have scored it ten out of ten as it was very much well worth it, besides also giving it a five star billing.
I can only reiterate what I have said about our experience already, if you want a meal thats very good in value, very good in its appearance and very good in its taste, this is the place to come to.
I am not related to anyone here, if you think I have jazzed it up a bit, it is because it is really worth it and I to would recomend a visit to it, but don't forget to book a table at peak busy times, you just might miss out a terrific opportunity here on the Isle of Wight.

Lovely meal, helpful and friendly staff and a beautiful setting

We visit the island every year as a family. Surprisingly we had never visited The Blacksmiths until now. Food is incredible, service faultless and the atmosphere is welcoming with views to die for.
Portions plentiful with no compromise on flavour, something for everyone even the fussy mother!
Variety of dishes gave a delightful decision... leaving you planning your return trip for more. 5*

Four of us had lunch on Friday for my birthday which was the following day. This is the first time I have been to the Blacksmiths and had
a lovely time. We all had different dishes which were first class. The staff attentive and efficient. I would certainly recommend a visit if you enjoy good food.

What can you say exalent for well prepared and superior service. All the years I have been going here never had a bad meal.

Have eaten twice at The Blacksmiths & certainly from our visits, the staff are friendly, polite & engage in a conversation when time allows. The setting is lovely, 17th Century building with some lovely views out towards the sea. Garden for the kids could be so much more but adequate for our little one with swings & a wooden climbing frame/bridge. Food wise, I’d say if you’re looking for that home cooked eat without all the washing up, then you won’t go wrong here. The menu is restricted but I think that’s a good thing because they aren’t trying to masses of different styles or choice & then failing because the menu is too big to cope. What is on the menu works & they do have specials. My lamb pie was great on 2nd visit (burger just as good 1st time) - pastry had the right balance of crisp & stodge, lamb was tender with a nice hint of mint sauce & the new potatoes were cooked just right, bowl of veg that had just enough bite & a nice thick gravy. I expect a Sunday roast would be great here, as the Italians say “Just like momma makes”. In a time where austerity is a buzz word, this place was packed both times we visited, each time all our food was great, as were the staff, so they are doing it right in my opinion. I would visit again, I’d recommend to friends.

Food was delicious, staff attentive, not expensive...book ahead as it's very popular. Depending where you sit, beautiful views out towards the Solent.

We sat in the garden and it took us at least thirty minutes to get a drink. We were advised to download their app to order food but it didn’t work. We must have waited over an hour for food. The staff that were working worked hard but there was just not enough of them. There’s really no excuse to be understaffed as most people would have per booked.

The takeaway at the moment is amazing...well organised, beautifully cooked, presented really well and of course it's super super tasty! The Newbridge Pie with the gravy is off the scale! Yummy 👍😊

The main meal was very good. The cheese board was rubbish.
£8 for plenty of apple, celery, chutney and grapes. Cheese selection very poor and no cream crackers.

Had our Christmas party here. Service was a bit slow but there was a massive group of us (although we had pre ordered). Staff were very absent, would have been nice for them to come round to check everything was ok during the meal. Apart from that, no complaints.
R. W.
Loved it, nice staff and really enjoyed the food , taste and qualiry.

This place is just amazing! If you're traveling from north to south and you wanna have a lunch break with a great view then you give it a go!

After 10 years, another visit of IOW, another visit of this pub. No more seafood platter as we last visit, instead of normal pub food. A bit disappointed because I and my wife came here just want to make another brilliant seafood platter picture . We decided to sit down, have a look the menu, just ordered the normal pub food. Good pub food, but it is not the feeling of 10 years ago. friendly staff. Recommend
J. L.
Lovely views, great food and drink, what's not to like?
R. P.
Best "pub" food...it's really a restaurant. I mean you don't have to order something with your chips. Upmarket variety

Great food for a pub, feels like good quality restaurant food and a fair price 😊👍

Changed my rating from a few years ago. Was run by some slobs who didn't care about food hygiene. However now taken over by the Pointers who always do excellent food. So goes from a 1 star to 5

I recently visited the Blacksmith with my wife , it was absolutely packed but we were found a place to sit and we each ordered a mixed grill , the meal was fantastic but was far to much for us to eat, the staff were very friendly and helpful and during a lull one of the waitresses/bar staff managed to help a young couple with some advice on places to visit around the Island , her advice was presented in a friendly and professional manner and what she said about the attractions was also accurate. It was a pleasure to visit the Blacksmiths and we will definitely do so again
R. C.

The Blacksmiths (Formally Blacksmiths Arms) has recently been taken over by the Burrows family (owners of the Pointer Inn, New church), and what a transformation!
Placed in an idyllic location, a stone's throw from the Tennyson Trail, with views over Parkhurst Forest and Cowes, the Blacksmiths is a wonderful location for a quite drink or meal.
The renovation has opened the restaurant up to the views, and the heated sun terrace is absolutely beautiful.
I ate here with my wife and daughter and have to say this was one of the best pub meals I have had on the Island. The Cesar's salad is a healthy portion with a beautiful breaded egg included.
Highly recommended, but I would suggest to book ahead, especially at weekends, this is going to be an extremely popular eatery on the Isle of Wight.
H. J.
Excellent food, friendly staff. Probably my favourite place to eat on the island.
