Reviews of The Crown Inn
E. W.
Visited a couple of times over this festive period, we’ve been coming here for years. Food was great - the light bite options were fab - and very well priced. Staff were lovely and service was quick. Would highly recommend for food and/or drinks!
b. h. w.
Great pub with a lovely garden, very pleasant & professional staff and excellent food
J. B.
Went there today (Boxing Day) with my lovely in-laws. We knew this stunning pub had been under new management so we were anxious about our experience. The menu was extremely varied and catered for lite-bite appetites. Pub Classics was the theme with the old favourites. There was “Specials” advertised also. The food arrived, two of us adults chose lite-bite size and the quantity was unreal. Only one adult nearly finished their meal. A takeaway container was accepted to take away the Steak & Ale Pie. My small Mac n Cheese was superb, the food was absolutely amazing (couldn’t finish it all) We couldn’t fault anything. The staff were extremely friendly, professional and this will now be our go to meet with family and friends. Highly recommend. Regards JoJo

Wonderful food, staff, pub and garden with a lovely stream of trout. If you haven't been yet highly recommended. Also the boys have given the play area a 5 out of 5. Well done Simon Cant and team lovely what you have done here. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
M. B.
Lovely traditional village country pub. Nice traditional decor, comfortable, nice beer gdn, family friendly one end. River running along side with ducks. Good varied value for money food menu, good selection of drinks. Naturally friendly, efficient service from management and staff teams.

Just had an amazing Sunday Lunch at The Crown. One of the best quality pubs on The Isle Of Wight. 👍
S. C.
We had a lovely evening meal and a few drinks last night.
The crown jewel burger looked incredible! And the kids enjoyed the ice cream and pirate ship play area.
r. b.
We really enjoyed eating here. The pub is under new management and they are doing an excellent job. Food is great, all staff are friendly and enthusiastic.
S. V.
Great meal, staff very professional, been a few times, during a visit to IOW.

M. J.
Excellent Sunday Lunch. Very reasonably priced , service from the friendly and attentive staff was really good. Steak pie was huge and really tasty as well. Will be back.

N. A.
A group of us had a lovely meal and all said 10/10 very clean, very friendly helpful staff and the food is perfect and no small portions we will return regularly

Great atmosphere and fantastic food. Would definitely recommend. Back for new years eve!

Reopened today, under New Management. Had a lovely pint and said hello to a few new face's and a few old.. loads of parking and open space for kids or woofers..
S. H.
Great to see this pub reopened! Popped in for an afternoon drink. Lovely warm welcoming staff.
Will be back for food very soon
P. W.
Cracking place to go and eat whilst on holiday. Great outside when the weather is nice too with a pond and stream with huge fish flapping around. This always somewhere we head to when we're on holiday on the island. Thoroughly recommended!
m. h.
New owners have vastly improved the pub!! Serving 'proper pub food' and good beer that's sensibly priced in a nice location will definitely be back.
P. K.
Absolutely fabulous venue. Great food but just as important, excellent service from a brilliant team. Thoroughly enjoyed my visits to the Crown.
I. N.
Love the food & the prices, looking forward to having Sunday lunch there
n. e.

Quaint, friendly pub. Nice grounds for outdoor seating with ducks and fish or inside to take you back in time. Dessert was also amazing.
D. M.
Great food, great atmosphere amazing with the family. Will definitely visit again!
D. O.
Lovely traditional pub in the beautiful village of Shorwell. Really friendly, good selection of drinks and nice old building
S. C.
I have just come back from The Crown on a blissful sunny afternoon. Sat by the carp pond, I enjoyed the stunning chicken and chorizo tagliatelle (as recommended by the helpful management). Very well priced, great service and a haven of tranquillity and natural beauty at the heart of the Isle of Wight. *sorry the image doesn't show the food at it's best, I wasn't about to stop eating to take a picture!
j. w.
Cleaner and brighter looking with the new owners. Good, friendly service. Food is good too.
R. M.
Visited Early May 2022 and pub still retains friendly atmosphere it did on our first visit 56 years ago .
Locals very chatty and welcoming .You must visit if you are on Isle of Wight holidaying .Check food availability and not sure how much may be on offer but enjoy the character of this charming pub which used to have a Trout Farm ..
P. S.
Food excellent, good beer sadly sticky table!

A. T.
Good selection of ales and friendly staff. Will definitely be back.
C. S.
Really nice place. Burger was homemade and tasted amazing and the staff were fantastic!
G. S.
Under new management and really coming along fine. I gave them 5 stars because they are such lovely people and the way they are going it's going to be second to none in the hospitality stakes!
N. M.
Lovely vibe and gorgeous pub grub!
A. H.
Lovely homely pub, really tasty food. Fantastic garden and stream
N. M.
Good food, value for money. Worth a visit.
a. g.
Good food , burger was amazing, they have good garden and nice friendly staff
R.
A lovely Sunday lunch here with the family, the roasts were perfectly cooked and accompanied with a healthy portion of veg. However the best food was to be found on the specials board, a lovely twist of pub classics cooked really well.
A great selection of beers and a beautiful outside area make this one of new favourite island pubs.
S. H.
Lovely country pub, sandwiches amazing.
B. M.
Lovely country pub with plenty of charm and character. Lots to eat and drink, with wide range for both to suite all. Great beer garden with a little stream. On the day that we visited there were two ladies, one behind the bar and one serving the food. Must admit that they were both fantastic. Very helpful and friendly. Even filled up our water bottle for our continued bike ride. I'd recommend the place if visiting this area.
T. C.
Very friendly pub, but our slow cooked pork belly was not cooked very well. Hardly any crackling, as the 3 we ordered all had mainly soggy tops instead of crispy tops and the pork was dry. My wife ordered scampi and chips and her meal was excellent with chips to die for. It's a beautiful pub too, warm and comfortable with very pleasant staff.
C. B.
Nice local pub with great garden and food
D. T.
.Beautiful area with ducks in the stream running alongside the pub. Great food we ordered sandwiches which came with salad and nachos with dip. A meal in themselves . Good variety of drinks available. Large car park. Good service and plenty of seating.
A. P.
Visited for a sunday lunchtime and they serve food all day, but was surprised to see that everything looked freshly cooked and the puddings looked to be made in house and not bought in. Roast beef was lovely and side veg cooked with care, not mushy. And nice beer (some local brews plus good stuff from elsewhere in the country).
Staff were friendly and prices reasonable. Log stoves were lit and although decor was a bit dark, everything was clean and comfortable.
Good spot. Will come back here (especially as it's on some nice walking routes).
D. H.
At first impressions lovely looking little pub but then they didn't have no Hunter's chicken. So I had to have an alternative so glad I did try something else it was amazing the wife food looked and tasted amazing too just perfect in every way highly recommended
C. D.
We had a late lunch here a couple of weeks ago, Sat in the beautiful garden as the weather was good. The food was fairly expensive but very good, I had Cod Loin and my Husband had Chef's pie of the day. We agreed it was the best pub' meal we had enjoyed for a long time. Rather strange then that two pairs of friends (they don't know each other) when we sang the praises, both said food poor, small portions, would not go again. I am mentioning this as for some reason they may have hit a sticky patch but it's not the sort of thing you need. We found food freshly cooked, plentiful and tasty. Service good staff friendly, the Landlady also. I would say give it a go. All the people mention live on the Island and would be worth cultivating 'specially in the winter months! We will come again!
K. B.
Lovely old pub with a good menu featuring local produce. The only spoiler came with the bill: there was bottled still and sparkling water on the table when we arrived (not ordered by us and remained unopened). However, these were shown on our bill at £3.50 each. The charge was removed when queried. So, enjoy your visit but check your bill!
a. h.
Really friendly atmosphere with a true “local” feel even for holiday visitors like us. Sammie and Ellie are the perfect hostesses ⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️
N. P.
Went for my birthday meal, food was really good, the pudding was amazing!! The service was spot on, attentive without being over the top, polite and friendly. Already planning return visits, going to become a regular eating out place I suspect!!
T. P.
Visited for Sunday roast. Quickly acknowledged by staff and seated. Both our pork and beef roasts were perfectly cooked with fresh vegetables and freshly cooked yorkshire puddings. Desert of sticky banana pudding was excellent. It was very light woth fresh banana slices on top. Very nice. Would definitely return.
R. G.
Great setting in a pretty little country village. Lovely garden with lots of ducks and geese on a beautiful clear stream . Greet for kids with a play area in the garden. Very friendly staff, good food.
P. G.
Good food with friendly staff.
S. B.
Good food good service and friendly staff.
T. T. a. W.
Great beer (kept well) , great food and lovely staff. Beautiful part of the world with ducks and trout swimming in the river. Looked after my family and friends at my mums wake. Can't thank them enough.
M. L.
Lovely pub, beautiful garden with a stream, good food and beer.
J. C. #.
Such a lovely place, great food & Atmosphere.
Food is always well presented and the staff so friendly.
Whether your inside the lovely character building, or outside by the pond in the garden you won't be disappointed.
C. R.
Very friendly and very good food
C. A.
Good beer and food. The pub offers a reasonable real ale selection. The food is good, of particular note is they serve all day so you can eat late afternoon if you want. Good bar menu complimented by a specials board. Recommended
J. R.
Characterful pub, nooks, boothes and open fires. Great outdoor area with parasol covered tables overlooking a trout stream. Evening menu is wide ranging and you must check the specials board, it's too good to miss! Reasonable range of Ales and Lagers.
W. C.
Had a enjoyable meal. However it disappointing that to have Christmas dinner/lunch you had to order prior to one's visit. Yes it was on the Web site you should have order prior. I felt it was not clearly notedo on the Web site. Even with the foregone would certainly would use The Crown Inn again in the future.
C. B.
What a great place all inclusive to everyone, love the sign in the bar "Heels, muddy boots, wet dogs all welcome", drinks and service great.
Really happy we fell over this place, will look to go back again.
P. W.
Very nice meal and good service
G. D.
Only had drinks but clean well run pub, nicely appointed, friendly staff too.
G. H.
Really nice atmosphere and very good food and ale.
R. L.
Absolutely lovely welcome by the staff will definitely be coming back soon
R. L.
Acceptable meal but not brilliant
C. B.
Absolutely marvelous pub with quaint styling that would put any 6'6" fella in A&E... But all good things have obstacles, and this is one I'm glad I got past.
Great staff with excellent knowledge of the area - if you're a walker they'll point you towards some top notch trails for amazing views and picnic locations.
Highly recommended.
Z.
I loved it! It serves amazing food, and if you are going there on a sunny day like it is today, i recommend sitting outside. When outside you can sit on one of the many benches near the small river that a few friendly ducks can come and see you!
L. M.
Very nice setting and plenty of car parking space. Really lovely staff. We only called in for coffee and cake but were disappointed the cake was not homemade - otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
R. R.
Good honest food in a lovely setting
G. W.
Only went for a couple of beers, staff very friendly and the prices were reasonable. Lovely pub and massive garden with stream.
T. G.
I wonderfully picturesque pub. The food was fantastic, I recommend their pies, they really are quite stunningly tasty. There's a lovely little pond outside where you can watch the ducks as you eat. If I ever end up back on the island I'm heading straight here.
E. B.
Lovely pub, interior has lots of character and the stream with all of the wildlife is beautiful to look at. Really enjoyed our visit there. Tasty food.
D. T.
An interesting step back in time to the charm and character of the past. Good food from enthusiastic and lovely staff. Outside the ducks and fish will fascinate young and old alike.
H. W.
Good Pub menu
C. D.
Lovely friendly pub. Sat in the garden on a sunny day, children were entertained by the swings and fish in the stream. Looking forward to trying out the food soon.
A. M.
Gorgeous friendly pubs full of quirky zones
S. C.
Unfortunately not doing food at the moment but historically food is sensational - lovely staff and a gorgeous location. Highly recommend!!!
D. S.
Jenna was hospitable. We were a party of 3 and all had cheesy chips....huge portions. Great value. The river outside is beautiful.
s. c.
Been coming here for years but now trying to be a gastro pub, please don't it was fine as it was. No I do not have a problem with gastro pubs or nice for as I'm used to spending good money in nice restaurants but here is trying to hard which it never had to in the first place.
D. B.
Beautiful food friendly staff
V. G.
Love the food and staff here.
M. F.
Pleasant pub. Very decent sandwiches, good selection of real ales and draught cider. Welcoming, cosy interior with lots of nooks and crannies - and a beer garden with its own stream!
M. F.
A lovely pub in a nice setting. Sadly let down by the food.on the day we visited. Presented perfectly but not the best quality.
L. S.
Lovely traditional pub with a great garden, stream running through, outside eating for the summer.Dog friendly(even doggie treats in a buy and turn dispenser)Food excellent, lots of great walks close by.ducks roam the garden if your dog is mad keep on a lead!!
L. S.
After a memorable walk over Limerstone Down, with the winter sun casting long shadows over the distant views of hills and sea, we returned to Shallford along the coastal plain through Yafford, past Wolverton Manor with its geese drying their wings by the ancient moat. The Crown Inn provided our late lunch without fuss and with cheerful service. I have deducted a star only because my cod and chorizo fishcakes arrived on a board, word not having yet reached the Isle of Wight that plates have been invented and are much more practical and hygienic, the salad dressing not running down into the cracks and the ceramic material being capable of being washed at high temperatures. Lovely people though, a great pub, and good food so don't be put off.
R. R.
Welcoming and friendly. My grandsons had nugget and chips, they actually eat the whole lot which is unusual! I did pinch a few of their chips, lovely.
N. V.
Such a wonderful mothers day dinner.
Staff so friendly and polite.
Food wonderful, pork roast trimmings and veg.
A very contented tummy.

L. W.
Lovely friendly, welcoming pub with a group of friends. Very enjoyable lunch today. Lovely to see dogs with families made welcome too.
J. P. V.
Went for a meal in the evening, ordered the lemon mayo chicken burger and skinny fries. No salad, small piece of chicken in small bun, fries were not brown and crunchy, just pale looking and a small pot of lemon mayo all this could be yours at £13 per meal, a tad expensive!
R. G.
Lovely location and good food. It was a shame about the beer selection as we saw some good ones on their website that they didn't actually have.
G.
Amazing food and amazing service
M. S.
Cosy , friendly pub. Food is gorgeous and generous portions too. Well worth stopping by, even if only for a drink and light bite! 😆🍷🍴
C. W.
Ha a nice lunch, much improved since my last visit which was some time ago. Think pub under new management.
B. A.
Very good food and service menu could have been a bit bigger but we had a good night out and will definitely be going back
K. C.
Nice venue with live music but meagre portion of leek and cheese crumble. Child portions of macaroni cheese were larger. Crumble topping was just oats, not traditional crumble.
P. K.
Just back from a brilliant Port & Wine’ afternoon .. thanks to Sammie & her team for a fantastic time ... so well organised and presented ... who knew there was a white Port ?? ... every days a school day 😂... thanks Sammie & see you again soon
