Very tasty home cooked food and generous portions at very reasonable prices. Fast and friendly service from the new owners who have refurbished the place. The fish and chips was very good indeed and a super large portion. Fresh, tender and crisp. Hand cut ham with nicely cooked chips. Could not fault the quality and value for money and will certainly return very soon.

Very small but charming Pub. The staff were very accommodating to a large group for a Sunday roast. The food and drink were great. The outside play area needs some TLC, but overall we had a great time.

Newly reopened with a friendly new landlord. Sadly, it now has a massive TV in the bar with the sound on and no one watching it - great for match nights but just distracting when you go out for a quiet lunch natter. Went for a lunch time snack. Beer selection was OK but the food was rather disappointing. Sandwich and chips (£8.50) made with super thin wholemeal value loaf. Baked potato undercooked and looked it had been microwaved so it was soggy rather than crisp and fluffy. Chicken burger was literally a piece of chicken and a bit of greenery in a cheap bun. Quite dry and tasteless - no seasoning or spices, no sauce never mind bacon or cheese or good quality brioche bun etc. I really hope this pub does well because it is in a lovely location, but it is going to have to up its food game to attract repeat business. We will try again in a few months and hopefully things will have improved. Fingers crossed 🤞.

On holiday as a couple; we stopped for a quick drink trying to find a good place for an anniversary dinner. We booked for here a total of 3 times in the fortnight's holiday. Beautifully presented fresh food cooked to perfection; reasonably and fairly priced. The portions are huge. Very friendly welcome was given to us each visit with great service. If you are in the area please visit, you will not be disappointed.

This is a great, friendly country pub. Distancing measures are being observed and we felt completely relaxed. My friends had macaroni cheese which they found excellent, and I had cod and chips. The batter was the best I've tasted in ages and the fish delicious. Highly recommend a visit.

Glorious little pub and it helps that there was glorious weather to accompany us! This is a proper little country pub with friendly staff, in a great village setting. Nice range of real ales, from Old Speckled Hen to Sharps Atlantic with a couple of local brews too! This is a nice pub to stop off at when you're out walking the coastal path of the Isle of Wight.

My wife and I really enjoyed our evening at the Sportsman's Rest when we stayed over in our motorhome. We had a good meal and a few drinks in a very convivial atmosphere. Charming staff too. This is how pubs should be.

A nice pub in bucolic surroundings, next to a country road. Reasonably priced drinks. Food wasn't amazing and the portion sizes were a bit small for the price we paid. Lots of seating available. *Response to owner: Hi thanks for your reply. I ordered the creamy pasta with broccoli I think, it wasn't on the cheaper menu no I think it was around £9? Just thought the portion of pasta could have been a tad more generous! Thanks

Understated and a hidden gem on the outside, on the inside this is a top pub. It is extremely welcoming and very well located for walking the IoW coastal path. Dog friendly and excellent real ale too! Highly recommended, and there's even a jukebox!

Thank you Jenna for your quick review. Can I point out you were asked if everything was ok with your meal, your party said all was ok! So please could you let us know what was wrong with the food? We have only been open for a short time and we don't have a massive kitchen to work with and we are doing our best and comments like yours don't help this industry. We were fully booked today and it does put a massive strain on the kitchen and staff as I hope you can imagine. As far as your comments on customer service go, we take customer care very seriously and again I will point out we were busy today and its hard to give 100% attention on our customer. 'The Sportsmans Rest' is situated a bit off the beaten track in porchfield, it's a nice old pub with car parking & garden seating + a small playground for the little ones. I often pass on my way home & I've vowed to visit for ages, finally visited for sunday lunch - nice roast dinner for just over a tenner + 'islander' beer 😋 - I'll certainly return!
