Reviews of The Old Inn
Food was absolutely delightful!
Well worth it. Atmosphere pretty lovely.
I had the squid starter and then the pie of the day.
The waiter was attentive, polite and friendly. Although, his face was mostly expressionless. Come on my man have a smile. :D
Anyway, lovely place, well worth the visit.
Side note, they seem to welcome dogs. And their fireplace is beautiful.
Went here for lunch. We were made very welcome by all the staff who were working.
The menu is good pub food with enough options for everyone to find something they like.
The food was lovely and we both agreed the portions were definitely on the large side but very reasonably priced.
Surroundings were lovely and also very clean. Beer garden is nice to sit in.
Traditional pub with loads of cosy spaces both inside and outside. Good selection of beers, decent wines and good quality pub classic food.
Lovely old pub in Widecombe in the moor .Great food ,good choice on menu. Was quite busy when we were there but did not have to wait to long for our food which came out piping hot .Staff were excellent .There are to parts to the pub the old then and added on part soon plenty of seating .There is also a very nice beer garden. There is a car park out the back . Definitely going back 👍
Stunning location. Staff were really attentive. Very creative menu with something to please everyone, the chef's deserve a lot of credit. Even the kids chicken nuggets were superb and clearly hand made, rather than from a freezer. The brownie was delicious and the ice cream was superb... Salcombe Dairy, which is probably the nicest in Devon, so we knew we were onto a winner.
It’s such a shame I never made a picture of the food but this country pub is super beautiful with chickens and ducks running around in the garden. The food was beautiful.. especially the chips wow!
There is parking right near by and it’s in a cute little village. There are a few gift shops around near the pub as well and also ice cream which is around.
If you want a country pub then I do suggest going here. Not expensive for the quality and quantity of food😁
The Old Inn was a lovely experience. We had a warm welcome and were invited to park our motorhome around the back in the car park overnight if we dined in. We had a delicious meal and beverages and take away home made pies. Very friendly service, covid safe. Toilets were very clean. One way system. Beer garden and plenty inside seating. Interesting decor with some local history. Plenty wine to choose from and plenty beers and a couple real ales. Thank you for a lovely evening!!
Love this inn. It has got better over the years. A really welcoming atmosphere and extremely dog friendly. Table service now so no waiting at the bar. Staff are friendly and courteous and you don't have to wait long to be served.
I hadn't been here for over 20 years and I was looking forward to it. And it was great! Oddly found myself ordering a pizza which I'm a little annoyed with myself becaus either could get a pizza pretty much anywhere.. but it was cooked perfectly in their wood burning oven. Only issue for me was a few items had been crosse don't off the menu, and the menu we were handed was different to what I found online.. but that aside, I'd recommend this place for a meal.
Great place to visit to warm up from a walk on the moor and enjoy amazing food, a roaring log fire and kind and lovely staff!
The Chowder was so good, we went back again to have more! Strongly recommend a visit!
Lovely quirky pub on dartmoor.
Food excellent and badger beer was very nice. Dog friendly and lovely old decor. A place to visit.
Relaxed lunch in the lovely pub garden complete with small brook, ducks & free-range chickens. Well cooked burger with chips & side salad very promptly delivered & delicious.
Stunning pub, great staff and amazing food. Highly recommended
Had we had Salmon salad, steak pie, and a burger for launch today, and were really pleased with the quality and price. Out of the 3 meals the burger was the stand out item prob the best I ever had a really outstanding item indeed. We also were accompanied by our two super sized Leonburger dogs, and can recommend this pub to dog owners.
Wonderful place, delicious dinner. We had stone-oven cooked vegan rugula pizza, lentil hamburger, chips and onion rings. Very kind staff, we will definitely come back.
Great pub, very traditional style, good food, decent menu. Dog friendly, even sells treats.
Excellent food served by friendly staff. A traditional old pub tastefully extended.Real ales and a good selection of wines. Treat yourselves , take a scenic drive on beautiful Dartmoor and call in.
Really delicious lunch on a slightly rainy day in October. The fire was going making the large conservatory feel warm and welcoming. The food was excellent. The fish and chips were excellently cooked, with light crispy batter and soft flaky fish. My wife's lentil burger was really tasty and she spent the meal trying to work out the ingredients so we could recreate it at home. We didn't book but I think we were very lucky to get a table for two by turning up at opening time. Didn't expect it to be so busy in a wet mid-week lunchtime but clearly lots of people know about this great pub.
Nice friendly place. Good food. Great for the whole family. If the weather is nice, the large garden area is great. The chickens were also very friendly..... :-)
Great old place with wood and stone interior, romantic lighting, great ale and best of all -- delicious Vegan lunch! They even have vegan desert! We had the "Caponata Sicilian", really delicious, with tasty, warm bread.
A beautiful setting for a beautiful traditional Pub. Stone floors and walls, friendly staff and great food. Fish Pie and the full Rack of Ribs were both delicious.
Its OK, I needed to eat they served food.I thought it was a pub. but its trying to be a restaurant. So it wasn't the relaxing pub meal I was hoping for.
It did feel a bit like God's waiting room apart from the staff I was the youngest
Excellent menu with the food totally living up to its promise. Camper-ed overnight in their carpark too, for no additional charge. Loos open in village so worked perfectly as a to notch place to stay.
Popped in after a walk, looks tiny from the outside but lovely a big inside. We arrived early lunchtime on a Monday and it soon filled up.
Service lovely an efficient, we shared a ploughman's and a couple of sides and it was more than enough for a lunch for two.
Good selection of food, including wood fired pizzas and drink.
Well worth a visit in a charming little village 😀
Good food in a nice environment. Serving staff very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic rural location fabulous food all at a great price!
Atmospheric but conventional pub. Log fires, plenty of intimate tables as well as large seating areas. Polite, helpful staff who tolerated our delay in ordering from the very interesting menu choices as well as our noisy dogs. Food was great, presented very well and freshly made. 10 out of 10!
Really delicious fish and chips today with the family. Nice wine selection. Friendly staff, pleasant garden with ducks and dogs.
Absolutely love this pub and the village of widecombe the food is very fairly priced however some of the specials can be a little expensive but when you consider how much you get it is worth it . Staff are very friendly and helpful . And this is a family friendly and dog ( on leads ) friendly pub will definitely return in 2019
Food Amazing lovley friendly staff !never disappointed ..
Delightful village pub staff and food excellent
We love this pub. It's our 'go to' favourite place when we're walking over Dartmoor. We'll even go out of our way to come here for food. The atmosphere is always welcoming, warm and friendly. And the food is just about the finest quality pub food one can expect.
We have eaten here many times and never once found anything to complain about. I don't often give out five star reviews, but I truly feel The a Old Inn deserves it. Good, honest, satisfying food, that is also good value for money, without any pretentiousness that you can sometimes find in these so-called gastro pubs. And yet, still offering a first class menu. Very highly recommended indeed.
This is a fabulous pub, esp if you're an animal lover!! Firstly- inside is wonderful. Lots of stone and a very "ye olde worlde" feel. They have a beautiful garden by a brook with lots of free range hens and ducks that are super tame and come clucking to the table for treats. We loved our new found feathery friends! The food was good- a lovely fish and chips and pizza . The staff were friendly and the service prompt. Best is that they have a Doggie Ice-cream parlour so your furry friend can enjoy a special treat with you too. This was a perfect end of the day meal for our family.
This excellent old English pub is a fantastic place to come for lunch after hiking to the Moors. Great selection of food including some vegetarian selections.
Love the food a real treat for birthday lunch.
Love the Old Inn, have been eating and visiting here for years. Good food, great service. Old world pub, log fires in winter, big garden in summer.
Beautiful old pub.lovely food and drink and very frienfly staff.A must for a pub lunch
Nice lunch in a warm pub on a cold day
Tasty quality interesting and proportionate quantity food served with smiles.
A lovely garden pub stocked with ducks and chickens. Beautifully decorated
Delicious food. Lovely garden. Have adapted well to Covid-19 restrictions. My daughter said the chicken nuggets were the best she's ever had and she's had thousands of them. You need to book if you want to eat indoors.
Fantastic Sunday roast at the Old Inn. Very rustic authentic pub and friendly staff. Highly rated from this coniseur.
I had pie and mash which was delicious. The pub itself is of two halves. The original part is lovely, very quaint and the other new edition less so. The garden seating area is nice. Most of the staff were very attentive. Typical pub menu.
What a smashing pub polite staff well spaced tables..a great range of alcohol free drinks for the drivers..but the food was lovely..hopefully when we come again it wont be thick fog as I sure there are some great walks with views nearby
Delicious roast, friendly staff, beautiful setting. Training required for lack of knowledge surrounding allergies, which if not highlighted by myself would have caused a serious problem. Really wanted to have given this place a 5 star as everything else was amazing.
Lovely place,. Amazing location
Food is ok, nothing amazing simple menu.
Would visit again when in the area.
Really nice pub. Loved the food.
Good selection on the kids menu too. Has outdoor seating and allows dogs (on lead).
As a family we regularly eat here and keep comming back. Staff are nice the food is good and it's a very traditional old wooden beaded pup. It also had opened fires, if yiu get a seat next to one after a cold walk on the moors there is nothing more heart warming.
Great place to visit and eat.
My wife and I ate several meals there during Sept 2018. All were excellent. The chicken curry was brilliant and the Sunday roast was really exceptional. The bar staff and wait staff were always friendly and very attentive. Must say that this was my favorite "hang out" while we were in Devon. All the best on your upcoming vacation. You certainly deserve it.

Friendly and efficient service, with great food.
Love this place. Always friendly. Beer is good, good selection of local brew and gins. Food is excellent. Cosy in the winter when only the bar rooms are open. When the Spring comes and it's busier, there is an extra conservatory room open and a nice garden. Good food 👍
The food was amazing and of high quality. The staff were very professional and friendly. Will definitely go again 🙂
Nice atmosphere and friendly service, 😁 always good selection of food. A little thin on the ground for servers but that seems to be the same everywhere.... didn't spoil the visit 😊
Great food. I always take my family here for special occasions.
Great location in center of village. Well organised for Covid, lovely beer garden (first time we've been here when the weather has been good enough to sit outside) with free ranging hens. Food OK too. Staff very obliging.
Great pub, lots of nice ales and draught on, really nice food, and a nice warming log fire. Also great for dogs, with lots of bowls dotted about, and food and 'drinks' available for them too. Has a managery of ducks and chickens free roaming in the beer garden, sure to entertain kids.
Right in the heart of Dartmoor. Find this superb eatery and historic inn at Widecome in the moor. Fantastic choice on the menu. It was lunch time so I chose the homemade soup from the starter menu. It was easily be of the best soups I have had. Gluten free and came with warm gluten free rolls. Nothing left on anyone's plate. Lovely gardens is a spectacular setting. Worth the drive. Nestled in this historic unspoilt village.
We vidited this old family pub for a significant birthday. Its been a long time since our last visit but we were very happy with the delicious food and friendly staff.
Recommend traditional dishes Cider Battered Fish (GF) or the Gammon, Egg etc.
Another 5-star review! This pub has all the old charm you want and the food's very good. Combined with its premium location, this place is not to be missed, full of quirky ideosyncrasies.
Quaint village and the pub is definitely worth a visit, we stopped for lunch i had chicken pulled pork with melted cheese 👍👍very tastey.chickens are running around garden it has a lovely feel to it
Would recommend
The best pub in Devon! They’ll look after your dog as well as they look after you - dog beer, frozen yoghurt, dog snacks! Amazing.
Sunday roast is always delicious, the garden is perfect in summer and the fire is lovely in winter! A perfect all rounder in a gorgeous location.
If you are in Widecombe, you have the Ruggle and the Old Inn to choose from. Both are sound choices, you have more chance of an inside table at the Old Inn. Service was a bit inattentive/slow here, but it was just as covid rules eased so I think the waiting staff were a bit green. Overall, perfectly acceptable!
Service good. Menu typical pub food but good. Picturesque surroundings. Price for 2 course meal £18.00. Main £12.00 pudding £6.00.
Nice enough pub, but you can definitely tell it's a chain pub. The style is a bit 'forced' rather than just leaving it to the natural character of the old building. Food is ok but nothing special, and it can get very busy at popular times. The Rugglestone just down the road has much more of a traditional pub feel and the food feels more home made rather than chain menu, so out of the two pubs it just depends what style floats your boat.
Dropped in for a mid-morning coffee. Stayed for an excellent lunch. Food v. good, staff friendly and efficient, great, welcoming atmosphere - and the rare-breed chickens wandering around the beer garden an absolute delight. Need to go back when I'm not driving to sample the beers which I'm sure will be as good as everything else.
A wonderful establishment with friendly chickens in the garden area. The food is excellent. The staff are pleasant. And the ambiance is relaxing.
Stopped at widecombe to find lunch.
Wandered into the old inn, looked at the menu and said go for it. We had roast beef and we both said "that was good" lots and lots of tender and tasty beef, good mix of vegetables, the roast potatoes were a tiny bit underdone, however overall a really good meal. Staff superb
, it was busy. Plus we did not have to wait long at all.
Will do this one again.
Loved the place, it's a fantastic olde worldy pub in a most stunning location. It has a good selection of ales and although we didn't eat, the food looked excellent too. Highly recommended to anyone who visits Dartmoor.
Lovely pub in a popular tourist spot. Does a very good and reasonably priced roast, with an emphasis on local meat.
A great place like wot pubs used to be. Quiet, warm and hospitable. Very good food and well kept beer. I love the little quirky rooms. And chaps nice bogs.
Went in on the off chance and managed to get a table without booking. Enjoyed the meal that we both ordered. Would highly recommend 👌
The inn is open for food all day, which is handy when the walk takes longer than planned. The building is nice and can seat a lot of people. The food (a burger and a sandwich) were ok. The service was acceptable but not friendly.
I always enjoy coming here but it's always best when the weather is cold and the pub is quieter. Good beer, good food and in the winter the fires are lit. What more could you want from a Dartmoor pub?
A superb venue right in the heart of the small village. Very friendly staff, portion sizes are spot on and the price amenable to the location. We have happily visited here on numerous occasions and will continue to do so.
Plenty of room inside and very generous portions!
Great place to meet with a meal or light bite plus a good bitter.
Always good here. Friendly staff. Excellent choice of food and well kept beer.
Really nice country pub
Welcoming staff
Great garden
Excellent food
Great vfm
Tranquil experience
And of course all set in the breathtaking atmosphere & beauty of Dartmoor.
Great service, great beer, great food in a setting that is just breathtaking.
A lovely country pub in a beautiful area.
We have always had good food here although the Winter menu is definitely better than the Summer one.
Would recommend
Lovely food and friendly staff. Service was a little slow, but overall a lovely lunch experience. Will be visiting again!
Fantastic pub in quaint Dartmoor village serving great food and local ales. The ploughman's was great!
Lovely setting, Staff are fantastic, food is lovely and fresh, the only complaint I have the food is never hot, I have been here a few times and will definitely go back again.
Love the garden with ducks and chickens running around, obviously used to dogs. Had the best ploughman's for lunch 🙂
Had a beautiful meal & lovely ice cold drink, the service & the range on the menu was very good 10/10.
Beautiful lunch for 7 of us yesterday. A warm welcome, perfect service, amazing food. Highly recommend 👍
One of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Staff helpful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone.
Fantastic food! Definitely recommend and will be back!
nice lager after a long walk. great garden.
Absolutely amazing experience. Explained about allergies and they couldn't be more helpful. Beautiful setting, food portions huge and delicious.
I've eaten here a number of times the food seems really good and enjoyable for both me and my friends never had a problem with their currys but there steak and ale pie is the best id give it a wooping 9 out of 10. A great place to eat although one down fall in having to book a table in advance in order to eat inside which isn't their fault its just covid 19 rules they are abiding bye and I think alot of people give bad reviews based on these fact without thinking however a place to try and enjoy and the beer garden great.
Great pumpkin soup, was especially relevant as it was 3 days after Halloween, maybe used their old pumpkins. The dragon breath was a great addition to the soup.
Really nice pub. Food nice. Ducks in back garden are quite funny to watch.
Have eaten there numerous times when on Holyday in Dartmoor. A very well kept pub in with some history and great food in widecombe in the moor, which itself is a must see for any Dartmoor traveler.
Came here on an autumnal evening to pick up my mate's van or something. Then ate dinner and it was great. Then we went and picked mushrooms and got smashed and all lived happily ever after and went home and played Zelda the end
Nice steak and ale pie - nice staff , plenty of space
Lovely ploughman's enough for my tea as well x
Very popular with locals and tourists good food and drinks
Wonderful lovely restaurant/Drinks bar
Very nice traditional pub, but with an up to date food menu.
Excellent vegetarian Sunday roast and delicious desserts!
Nice meal, pleasant staff, beautiful location. Not sure why they stopped serving so early. I know covid is a factor but.... 8pm?
While on holiday, randomly stumbled upon this pub while on a drive, so glad we did as it was absolutely spot on, brilliant food and atmosphere
Stayed the night here britstopping. Food and service was excellent, cider was good too.
Friendly staff, nice grounds. Good food and big portions
Lovely warm welcome dog friendly and food is amazing and good prices for food and and drink will definitely be returning after my next walk on the moors
Found this lovely pub on a trip to dartmoor, we had a sandwich each and a bowl of chips to share, food was perfect, fast service, beer garden was beautiful with chickens and ducks running around.
Excellent ambience and a superb meal, reasonably priced. Pleasant staff and good service. I would go there again.
Year after year i return here without dissappointment. This year was no different.
Excellent food and service as always
Good food, welcoming staff, plenty of space. A haven of peace in the middle of a tourist hot spot.
Fantastic food and great choices. Fab atmosphere
Had a ploughman's lunch .service excellent.food out standing.staff patient arrived ask for a table sorted
Excellent food, good value and superb service. The location is perfect and the wonderful old building is very comfortable.
Lovely hot food, good size portions, friendly staff, what more could you ask? 👍
Hate is a bit strong not impressed with bar closing at 8 not major problem if staff had informed us before closed menu and food not that impressive staff bar one didn't look as if wanted to be there no smiles
Execellent food. We ordered the soup of the days and the bread was perfect ! Crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. ☺️☺️
Cosy pub with good food and beer and plenty of seating. Popular tourist village do probably busy in season.
Their lamb and red pepper pie was very tasty.
Service was good, staff very helpful.
Went there a while ago, but am eager to go back! The food was delicious and the atmosphere is very cozy!
Very nice, good food, shame about the weather guess you can't always have everything 😁
Very impressed. Very friendly clean and lovely food. Cant wait to come back soon
Amazing food and good service.
Lovely food, although not the cheapest. Very friendly staff.
Our hearts sank when we realised this was Hall & Woodhouse but it far exceeded expectations and was very good. Good service although staff not readily available.
Excellent atmosphere, food and staff response. I would recommend this Dartmoor travellers rest to all visitors and locals alike. Thank you.
Lovely food and good service. Can recommend the melted cheese starter!
Had a meal here on Boxing Day, Excellent value for money, will definatley return when I am in devon again
Had a lovely meal in here. Oldy worldy pub full of character.
Plenty of space. Friendly staff.welcomes dogs. Great hot chocolate and cake.
Very lovely place food was amazing
Surprisingly big pub with good food. 2 distinct sections to it, one old and one new.
Would go again.
