Reviews of Heart of England
I. J.
Staff were very friendly and helpful food was very good
S. W.
Had lunch here, the food was really good (we had a combination of burgers, gammon and hunter's chicken) and the service was excellent. Also really great that they allow dogs as we had 3 with us, dog friendly tables are to the right from the main entrance. The only disappointment is there were 5 of us and we had 5 main courses and 4 puddings but we were charged for all 4 puddings when 1 should have been free to accompany the 5th main meal as a substitute for the mains two for one offer. Should have checked the bill properly before we left!
A.
Clean and comfortable at the right price. Stayed for 3 nights, the room was cleaned daily, and more importantly, the coffee, milk and biscuits were also topped up daily! Would stop again if the need arises.
E. W.
Lasagne and hunters chicken I was told tasted lovely. All nice and hot. Cconfusion with mine. I wanted cod and chips, got given fishless fish and chips. Fish bot looked eugh. Only had one bite was tasteless. Chips and myshy peas and bread very nice. Got a refund for that. Very good deal regardless as was buy one get one free on maineals. Drinks expensive. Lots of tables available. Only one car space was free for parking as others all full. Good value for money food.
P. W.
Large rooms, worth the price for the room, nice place. Good food and breakfast. In the middle of nowhere.. Good service.
k. G.
Food fairly average. 2 for 1 menu isn't great value for money when main meals in region of £18.
Service slow.
Probably wouldn't bother returning.
J. N.
Nice rooms stayed here for two nights 27th May.friendly helpful managers and staff team good food 👍 would come again. Plus two for one meals..
s. i.
The food was good as usual great portions, page the server was very accomodating with regards to my wife allergy requirements
A. V.
A very lucky find for Sunday lunch. The staff (Billy, Stuart and chef JP) made us feel at home and looked after us extremely well. Service was fantastic and the food (I had Turkey roast and my other half had fish and chips) was top notch. Absolutely no complaints about any aspect. I look forward to revisiting. Thank you, all. Anil V.
T. B.
Excellent place for a good value for money food. Some meals on menu are two for price of one, which makes for even better value! Quality does not suffer. We had two roast beef Sunday dinners, followed by Christmas pudding. All good. Recommended.
P. B.
I stayed a night here while attending a friend’s wedding nearby. A simple, clean place and very good value. The included breakfast was also very good, especially after having had a drink or two the previous evening. The staff were very upbeat and helpful.
J. H.
We was served by abi, exceptional service had a smile on her face throughout the whole of our time and was giving good check backs to make sure we were happy with our meals. Made our time there worth the visit
E. E.
Staff were lovely, if not a little nervous - my daughters food almost got launched across the table by a shaky but pleasant waiter - food arrived quickly but was definitely overpriced. £18.50 for a very middle of the road cod and chips and the burgers were tasteless and tiny. We won’t be coming back for the food in a hurry but the pub itself is nice and the staff are nice so maybe for a drink or two.
A. G.
We had booked a room to stay overnight. The room was clean, cosy and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent the following morning.
D. m.
Very relaxed , friendly pub. Food was great and staff very friendly and couldn't do enough to please us.
B. F.
Great pub, fantastic food, only letdown was the recent change of staffing, had loads of good friends here who sadly have moved on, apart from that I'd highly recommend this to anyone.
m. l.
Lovely B&B,rooms very clean beds are so comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful, and to round full English breakfast fantastic
Would recommend the Heart of England to any one
l. O.
Lovely big room
Really comfortable big bed and pillows
Nice bathroom
Excellent breakfast choices
Good location for where we needed to be
Would recommend
H. B.
Billy, Ollie and Chef JP made our experience wonderful.
Great front of house service and lovely food, starters, mains and dessert were delicious and freshly prepared.
M.
Lovely pub, food a little overdone and staff could make a little more effort and look a bit smarter 😏
C. P.
2 for 1 on all main meals is great if there is 2 of you. But very expensive if you are on your own.
j. f.
They do a fantastic Sunday lunch 😋 😊 😀 I'm never cooking for myself again!
S. W.
Excellent customer service, Good beer and food. All I can say is I disagree with the last review, if they were the table complaining all day the kids were a nuisance and they were leaving a mess everywhere
A. L.
Excellent service, food and accommodation. Nice area close to the canal too which is a pleasant walk. Intend to come back.
T. G.
Stayed here for a couple of nights and the room was big,the manager changed our room due to having to go up stairs, which was hard for my mum. The breakfast was good and we ate at night there too and the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend and if I'm ever going to that area again, would definitely book a room here again.
M.
Room was generally clean and tidy, pillow case was ripped on arrival and mould on bathroom grout. Toast for brekkie wasn't buttered but would recommend.
i. m.
Wonderful experience, really tasty food, good service, nice and friendly staff.
G. G.
The size of your meal depends on who is the chef, yesterday magnificant, today not so much, Surroundings & Staff xXx A Pure Delight xXx
W.
Lovely place great out doors and plenty of room calm and relaxing helpful staff and great deals on the food too not to long to wait for food would go back again
UPDATED........🤔
Further visits to here twice now we have had our food messed up with peices missing from our plate and then having to wait for the replacement being almost finished by the time the replaents came not sure what the chef is reading to ingredient but it sure is not the same in the menu 😐 gave a second chance after the first time not sure their will be a 3rd time 🤔

As public houses and Bed and breakfast are concerned, The Heart of England has it all.
It's a beautiful 18th century building, the room we had was fabulous, a king size bed, and everything that you can want.
Our meals were also very nice.
The staff are second to none.
They can't do enough for you,, and you feel very safe regarding the covid rules.
Many thanks to the staff you made our very short visit very special.
Mr D C Williams.
P. M.

We went for a meal at the heart of england on saturday night, We were welcomed warmly by Billy who showed us to a choice of tables, We were given menu's when we sat down for food&wine, Billy looked after us excellently all evening, The quality of food and drink was first rate. We will definitley be returning. The mixed grills are a must.

Good food , see menu and gluten free menu and specials
Fantastic service 👍🏻
S. P.
Well above average pub food and reasonably priced. Friendly manager, very polite and fun. Great beer garden, will be great I'm the summer with kids as small play area.
E. H.
Just had a 2for 1 meal. Chicken with garlic mushrooms and vegetables. Very enjoyable. Staff were friendly. The only thing was we had to wait about 45 mins for our meal. Not sure why as not many people in the pub and no one else was served their food while we were waiting. Not sure if this was a ploy to Try to get us to buy more drinks!!
J. E.
Well worth the 5stars I've given. Brilliant staff and my room was excellent..Beer and food reasonably priced and a lovely Beer garden..id highly recommend to others
S. B.
The B&B was okay, had to swap rooms but that was done okay. The view wasn't very good in either room. It was just the roof!
Breakfast was nice.
Food was okay although we had pre ordered our food yet it all came out at different times, the steaks were over cooked and general service was slow.
There were chips and other food on the floor under our table.
Kids liked the outdoor play area.
L. B.
Was ok but disappointed didn't do light meals baguettes or jacket spuds .Too much salt on chips. I prefer to put my own on . As trying to watch salt intake
D. W.
Really friendly staff and fab food
m. w.
Nice room good food reasonable prices except larger £5 a pint.
A. M.
Great food mega mix grill well worth the price and great deals on the 2 for 1. Definitely recommended.
A. H.
Lovely staff. Food was unfortunately not good. Cheap though with the 2 for 1
K. P.
Great place to stay and Great food
F. 1.
This place is either all good or all bad . A few new staff so might go up a star next time .
C. B.
Seven of us were celebrating my sons 23rd birthday as my son lives in Weedon he recommended we go there. The food was really good and all bought out at the same time except for my chips, (the chef had not cooked enough) hence 4* not 5. Very friendly service, overall i would definitely eat there again.
v. p.
Situated on the A45 between Northampton & Daventry .
Quiet little sleepy village with antique shops , a fish and chippy and a large supermarket.
The Heart of England is an ideal place to relax with a superb meal & a pint served by friendly, helpful staff or if you want to make the experience last longer stay the night in one of there luxurious rooms set at affordable competitive prices .
We love to spend Christmas day there , well I mean why cook for your self when someone else is willing to do it for you , makes Christmas day feel more special a must try for everyone .
Thanks to the new local road improvement the Heart of England is much easier to access from junction 16 of the M1 just follow the road signs
j. s.
Lovely location and brilliant room. Very friendly staff.
M. e.
We have been eating at this establishment for over 12 years. I really felt that the staff were under pressure and it felt a little disorganised. I had to ask twice to be served. The food was OK and the portion size was good, it's good value for money on the 2for1 deal but I wouldn't be happy paying the inflated price for a single meal. Beer was very good.
J. M.
Food was okay. Chips were a bit soggy. The wait staff we were friendly and were definitely the best part of this place. They had live music start while we were finishing dinner and it was so loud that we had to leave. And there were litttle kids with their fingers in their ears and we had to shout to talk. The wait staff even had to work an hour after their shifts had finished because everything was so delayed. Wouldn't go there again, but if you do, leave a good tip for the wait staff.
A. J. (.
Food was excellent - great value, good portions and super tasty. Staff were lovely. Service was a bit random but we were a very large group (30+) and to an extent that's expected... Random or not, staff were great!
D. K.
Nice food. Little expensive at 2 for 1 prices. nearly £18 for turkey roast.
T. R.
Went quite early on a Wednesday night. Not many people in when we got there. Part of the Marston chain, choose a table take your number to the bar, order pay and wait for the magic to happen. I've noticed that I expect after a head office memo they don't do tabs anymore! I suspect they had a few runners in the group and went down the pay when you order route, not a major problem just a little inconvenient ( a sign of the times, a few ruining it for the many)
As we waited the waitress bought the cutlery including 2 steak knives. Sadly although either the machine or person had obviously washed them they had failed to rinse and wipe them properly leaving a residual stain on the blade. I pointed this out to one of the waitresses and she immediately collected you the cutlery and walked off to the kitchen and returned with sparkling replacements . The food soon followed the steaks were slighly undercooked for my friends but they ate them anyway.
My fish medley under a topping of mashed was lovely.
Onwards and upwards,the desserts!
I had a slice of a brulleè type dessert with a double custard on the side, the lady had a very chocolaty looking sponge and the gentleman an enormous banana and ice cream concoction which beat even his best efforts . While we were there the place started to fill up. The canal is right next to the pub with nice tables and chairs in the garden . At the moment (August 2019) they have a 2 4 1 deal which make eating there common sense. In summing up good quality food, reasonably priced with competent staff. Thank you for reading this review, enjoy your day.
J. B.
Our waitress Lea was very helpful and courteous, all the staff were friendly. Our meals were nice and hot
D. F.
Great looking pub nice interior and beer garden. Good selection of beers and ales. Recommend 🍻👌
C. S.
Great little B&B! Stayed one night whilst attending a friends wedding- really helpful staff who kindly allowed me to access my room a bit early to get ready. The rooms are spacious but cosy, the bed was very comfortable and the room had the usual tea facilities and a hairdryer.
Breakfast was included and you have a decent choice to pick from, again the staff were really pleasant and friendly.
W. L.
Always friendly and polite meal was good
C. F.
Lovely sunday roast yesterday with my elderly dad and son. A good plateful and cooked well. Staff polite and helpful and were very busy with big parties to deal with. Definitely return again
J. K.
Food is great value for money, lager was spot on. Super friendly staff, been a few times now and food has been very consistent. Highly recommended for normal folk. If your fussy you'll surely find something to moan about as you would at the Ritz. 👍
S. T.
Went for food, was about 12 of us, no problems with the order for food and a good selection. Everything was correct with great service. Great choice of deserts. Nice place but carpark a little small. Would happily go again.
J. T.
Great breakfast, excellent service by Stuart and the team . Will be coming back
S. M.
Great staff and food was brilliant and awesome value.
G. M.
Great location for what we needed. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The breakfast (included) was very nice and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The window in our room was a little drafty but not too bad. Would definitely recommend
N. F.
Great place to stop off and eat at. Always found it welcoming, good pub food and choice of food on the specials board. Loos need updating. Called in today with my pet dog and they are dog friendly so long as your in the garden not the main pub, which is fine today as itsi27'c and hot and sunny.
K. L. R.
Typical establishment food but of good quality, some may say old but i will call it decor fitting to the type of surroundings. 2 for 1 offers and themed night menus, reasonably priced. Large outdoor eating and seating area.went in the afternoons so was not overly busy but evening's can be busy .nice friendly staff
C. C.
It was OK but its very expensive for what you get..
m. c.
Went to the Talbot tea time. They were busy but service was good. Friendly staff. Food was good. Have been before for large family gathering. As long as they have prior warning, they were very accomodating.
K. P.
Have eaten at The Heart of England a few times now. The food is excellent and their 2 for 1 offers are excellent value. We usually get a meal and drink for two at around £20.00, which is great value for money. would recommend this place to all.
L. B.
the place are very nice and staff is too kind. the rooms are very clean and the breakfast is good. I also tried the pub which offers a varied and good menu. recommended.
S. W.
Cauliflower cheese to die for.
It's a 2 for 1 pub and you normally know what to expect. However, the food tonight was exceptional and the homemade cauliflower cheese was perfect. To die for. I would say the chef has a passion for cooking and you can taste the difference between someone just doing a job and someone who loves cooking. Would recommend .
D. G.
Friendly staff. Good food , the hotel itself is in need of a freshen up very tiered
W. F.
Billy was fantastic and looked after us well, place was nice and homely too
G. B.
Clean and tidy rooms, comfy super king bed. It's an older building so a few creaky floorboards in the morning when people are waking up but nothing to ruin your stay. Great staff, great breakfast.
P. p.
Very nice burger. Chips taste like they'd been reheated there wasn't many either. . Chocolate orange bread & butter pudding. Don't bother with that too
R. D.
Nice local inn, great pub food, very nice staff
B. M.
Has been a great place on the past in the last few months less selection on the specials board (reduced by 50%)
Draught real ale down to one a week ago and today no Draught real ale available until Wednesday .
Very sad as we use The Heart of England at least twice a week. Food is always good and the staff excellent.
Bernard Morton
R. C.
Food is in my opinion just below average but then again it's cheap. Big pub and staff was nice. It's good for few beers and child friendly just not a fan on the food at all.
P. F.
My stay was was spoiled by minor things.
Ie.television did not work.
The tea items was not correctly replaced I had to ask on t

The hotel had a great location. We were staying as our friends were getting married at the nearby Dodford Manor which is two minutes drive away. We were warmly welcomed on arrival at reception which is part of the pub proper. Our room was much more modern that we expected with a comfortable queen sized bed, wardrobe with hangers, plentiful tea and coffee supplies and a little tv. The room layout was a bit odd with a large empty space which would have suited a dressing table or another wardrobe. We slept well with little to no noise apart from someone walking the floorboards in the room above in the early hours! We stayed for two nights and ate breakfast on both mornings. Breakfast was a selection of cereals, fruit and marmalade/honey and then a choice of cooked breakfast. We went for the classics. The classic was sausage, bacon (both nice tasting), a poached egg, hash brown, beans, grilled tomato and toast (which was very nice). We were a bit puzzled that on our first breakfast we were offered speciality coffee (i.e. latte, Cappuccino) but the next day it was insulated containers of coffee and hot water which was lukewarm unfortunately. We were in a rush to be fair and we could have asked for them to top up and I'm sure it would not have been a problem. Overall though I would recommend the food. They have some cracking deals and a good looking menu which I think we would have tried if we weren't at the wedding. Our room had a window that opened on to a flat roof which we assumed would be a fire escape but we weren't too chuffed it didn't have some kind of catch to prevent access from outside if someone was determined enough. This was the only real thing we were unhappy with and maybe needs looking at. The staff were great, welcoming and genuinely friendly. There was no issue with us returning after midnight from the wedding with side door access which makes it a great place to stay for anyone who is a guest of anyone getting married at Dodford Manor (and half the price of another local hotel). Would recommend.
p. s.
Really helpful staff making sure food was best way to order and just on the ball with it all. No faults with anything today. Definitely would eat there again
M.
Meal prices high ie Sunday main course (only) £17+ offer did two for one price!!!!!!!
L. J.
We only visted for drinks as we had moored our canal boat up locally. Service was great, pub was friendly and had a nice atmosphere. Prices reasonable. Venue wasnt serving food due to power cut the day before but good choice available only menus and specials board
L.
Lovely location and garden, but the chilli chicken melt with rice I had for £13 was barely filling and simply a couple of chunks of chicken with some rice and barely any mince. For what I paid I expected more, coffee portions are small for a large too.
S. D.
Vegetable jalfrezi comes with salad as standard. Really? That well know combo curry and salad? To be fair, they didn't quibble about bringing me some rice to go with it, but I had asked when ordering if it came with rice and was told yes. (The menu said that it was served with a naan but I had requested the vegan modification.)
d. b.
Lovely 1 night stay. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff
M. G.
Great friendly reception good choice of beers very nice staff
B. C.
Really friendly, chatty, welcoming staff. Good one way system. Generous food portions. Would visit again.
K. G.
Smooth check in.. rooms clean.. big towels..perfect location for dodmoor house
A. S.
Good hot tasty 😋 food, plenty on the plate, friendly staff, not too busy (2pm). Current proprietors will be leaving so let's hope the new ones are as good!
J. D.
Staff are wonderful and very hard working
a. c.
Lovely place to have a drink and a meal. Staff very friendly and helpful
N. B.
Lovely food. Attentive staff. All good!
J. B.
Seemed a nice place but unfortunately they were not able to supply many of the items on the menu. Apparently they were undergoing a change of chef...!!! Good that we did obtained was good.
E. H.
The food was good but seemed a little understaffed with one person waiting on all the tables alone. While she did very well to keep everyone served and happy it would have been nice if she had more support.
K. G.
Restaurant's nothing great - good variety and reasonably priced food (they have a number of buy 1 get 1 free meals) but took a very long time to come. Friendly staff.
M. D.
We called at lunchtime for a meal and was pleasantly surprised. The meal was great and the staff were extremely helpful. Would definitely call again. Thanks
E. J.
Food is good and when it's not busy service is fast. However if it's busy service is a bit poorer. But it's understandable since they only usually have 1 or 2 waitresses/waiters at a time
t. R.
Left poor review last year and had no intention of going back , but an enforced stop saw me at this pub. Now much better, staff now first class well run, worth a stop.
J. K.
Lovely food great service staff very welcoming.
J. H.
Room was nice big and clean. breakfast was ok but there was not a lock on the window and with a flat roof just out side of it I ended up wedging a spoon in the window frame to keep it secure
D. S.
They had to cater for 14 of us today, everyone's food followed each other's, even tho as you can imagine we all ordered different, food was well presented, warm,an cooked great, all staff, polite highly recommend ,thank you
S. C.
Decent price and nice food. Took a while to arrive but waiting staff were very friendly .
R. D.
Fantastic food and lovely staff, would recommend to anyone! Very affordable and great atmosphere
B. R.
Good service, friendly and helpful staff, food was good. So close to where we moored it was rude not to visit.
M. R.
Just spent the day in Weedon reminising as my friend used to run this pub 50 years ago we had a lovely meal there & the staff were very friendly the place was very clean with alot of retro furniture it really made her day.
S. P.
Large pub good menu and buy one get one free on all meals nice outside but child's play area not for small children but plenty of grass area and little features they would enjoy
M. H.
Welcome, service and meal were all good to very good. But what the hell is that stuff you call mustard it's very unpleasant and does not taste like any mustard that I have ever had
R. R.
Lovely little pub and hotel. Rooms are current and spotlessly clean. Staff is welcoming and helpful. I thoroughly recommend this establishment.
C. B.
Nice pub with beautiful garden and very friendly staff. Clear one way system around the restaurant and bar area
v. T.
The room was clean and tidy lovely comfy bed. Manger was polite and friendly and the breakfast was tasty. Would recommend this place to stay .
c. t.
Visited for their wednesday curry night. 2 curries and drinks for £15. Great value for money and meal was spot on. Definitely be back again.
T. W.
Great food and service. Billy was absolutely brilliant, his service with a smile although he was running all the food from the kitchen single handed was 1st class.
N. A.
Friendly staff member, nice glass of rosé and a pleasant garden to sit in, with nice lights.
A. G.
Very clean pub with great service and good food.
If in the area try it you will not be disappointed.
D. P.
Went for a birthday meal, bar was well stocked, however, there was a shortage of a few options from the restaurant. There was still plenty to choose from and the food was nice when it arrived, which was very prompt.
s. c.
Wonderful friendly staff and atmosphere. Great beer, didn't eat there but it smelt really good...
D. C.
Food was fantastic bit of a wait but that's to be expected at the minute
N. S.
Food was good but some of the sides and order details were incorrect unfortunately. Beer bottle craft ale selection was okay. Other than that not much to report.
c. m.
This place very much feels like a chain restaurant, not a lot of character and not particularly comfortable. Cheap and cheerful food though
a.
Very friendly, server was lovely and fun, little bit loud but did great for social distancing, good was good
C. E.
Food is ok for what you pay for, lots to choose from though! Hotel rooms definitely need work too, and a clean. But again if you just need somewhere to sleep it works
M. P.
Very nice hotel, clean and tidy, stuff also very friendly, 4 stars because shower was not working properly (hot water only)
V. B.
We stayed here on Saturday night and couldn't find any faults at all, the rooms were spotless, staff really welcoming and food really good.

I really like the Heart of England, it's local, the door's great and there are Pokéstops and a Gym for those who play Pokémon GO (although I wish you luck in beating it, it's a level 10 Valor gym at time of writing). There's also free Wi-fi, and rooms upstairs somewhere for those who wish to stay overnight although I've never seen them personally.
G. L.
Casual stop on a long journey but what a huge serving. Clean. Quick and friendly. Great value. Would go again if passing.
