Reviews of Olde England
D. W.
A small but very friendly and welcoming pub with excellent real ales etc. I'd highly recommend this establishment.
F. D. J. M.
It's a great pub full of character and characters! Folk music night - every Thursday night - at Olde England is very special.
B. i. B.
Nice selection of beers, ales and stouts. Good service too.
J. R.
This pub isn't as olde as it looks but attracts a very friendly talkative bunch of locals (and dog), along with the barman.
They don't offer food anymore, but have a good selection of around 8 to 10 well-kept real ales on hand pump as well as many flavoured ciders and at least one traditional cider. Many of the beers are local.
The interior is quite dark, and on three levels; I think it could get crowded on a Friday or Saturday evening.

A great little ale bar. Nice range & well priced. The last time I went they were an upstairs only business, but I think they were going to expand downstairs as well. Also very grateful to them as they gave my daughter a job when she was at Northampton Uni.
R. S.
Great laid back old style pub. Very well priced with drinks far better than simply lager. Pub staff are excellent and the customers are fantastic. Attended a games night there which was awesome. They host other evenings too. Brilliant place

Had a family Christmas meal here. Everyone enjoyed it. Have eaten and drunk here many time and would recommend. Good range of ales and ciders. Staff friendly. Unique pub spread over 3 floors. We prefer the top and largest room.

There are very few pubs Like this one that still look and feel like a pub used to. This pub is choc full of character and not a plastic pub or chain pub. Quaint, welcoming and warm. The choice of beers and ciders are huge and great quality.
M. H.
I've walked past I don't know how many times and finally went in. There's two bars - one up (tiny) and one down in the basement (also tiny). The wait staff are friendly and helpful.
Decor is very Olde England - there's a suit of armour and basses adorning the beams. Good ale and a lot quieter than the Picturedome across the road! Definitely recommend for a quiet beer. I'll be going back!
S. M.
Good simple food, friendly gaming pub.
I don't "drink" and have never felt welcome in pubs, till this one. Food and games, with friendly staff and customers make it feel like a genuinely social public house, rather just a place to get booze :)
S. J.
The best pub in Northamptonshire. Amazing selection of anything your heart desires, including mead! As well as brilliant decor throughout the pub. More for great chats and board games rather than your football watching, and lager and fights.
S. S.
Nice Little pub Little pub. Very friendly staff and a good choice of real ale.

Great pub, great beer
G. P.
Unique pub, extremely traditional with even a board games/reading old style lounge upstairs on from the upstairs bar. Also very accommodating to all. Equally unique ciders and ales on tap also.
D. R.
The Olde England is a fantastic, medieval-themed pub that serves food and locally brewed ales and ciders. Paintings and sketches line the walls and authentic suits of armour give the impression of being in a castle. The staff are friendly. The ales and ciders are top-notch.
D. M.
Lovely selection of real ales and lagers on tap spread over 3 floors.
C. M.
A first timer, the steak and stilton pie is to die for!!! Best pie I've had in a long time. The horseradish mash is a great extra. Also the gravy is amazing. I would highly recommend and a great selection of drinks. 5 stars
J. J.
Really old fashioned pub. No music, great range of draught beers, poetry readings in the cellar. Upstairs room overlooks the edge of the racecourse, so there are plenty of comings and goings. Real fire in the winter too. Slightly decrepit... Just as a real pub should be.
M. C.
Hard to find a traditional pub with so much character these days. Varied ales, engimatic friendly staff. Great ambience, locals and visitors. My favourite pub in Northampton so far
K. H.
Quirky establishment, medieval themed in part. Good selection of real ales and cider. Very popular with the bearded folk of Northampton. There is a folk night on Thursdays where local musicians play traditional folk music on the basement floor.
J. B.
Until the same people reopened the Racehorse as the Black Prince I don't think anywhere in town offered so much choice of real ale - it's like a mini beer festival with better food and loos, and no Tory Councillors turning out for a photo-op.
Still not sure about the mediaeval decor but it's a great place to meet people and have a drink.
R. D.
Nice place. Super eclectic and has a great range of regulars, both flat and sparkling.
Their range of beer, cider and mead is most excellent.
M. R.
The best town pub by miles. Loads of real ales and ciders, with very friendly vibe, but best of all no blaring music so you can actually have a conversation with your friends..
S. S.
Really an amazing pub with a small setup. Very good place for a self time with a drink and jolly staff. I loved being there..cheaper rates for pints..
A. G.
Single bar in the ground floor makes it a challenge when ordering some drinks. Reduced seating area and lamps that would compete with the eddystone lighthouse in brightness makes it feel somewhat lacking in atmosphere.
M. L.
If room temperature beer and cider and a range of 'traditional' British fayre are the things that rock your boat then this is the place for you. Decor is nice, prices are very reasonable and the staff are jovial and keen. If you hate England, and English things, then avoid at all costs.
K. W.
The downstairs bar has a real old-world feel with a great selection of mead and fruit wines. The upstairs is medieval themed with fantastic local beers and ciders.
C. D.
Nice olde style pub good selection of pump ales lagers great must visit if you like olde style pubs
C. M.

A unique place, like a micro pub in a building. Excellent real ale and cider selection. Well worth a visit
R. G.
This is a pub with a lot of character. The menu is brief but the food is all good and inexpensive. Make a reservation as seating is limited. Lunch is best.
J. M.
Great selection of real ales. A pleasant but quiet atmosphere. A place to get away from the bustle of town centre shopping.
a. t.
My favourite pub in Northampton, loads of ales, the place has an old timey vibe and they're happy to have people play board games

If you enjoy beer this is the place. It has a very unique ambience and it's a great experience to come here. Unrivalled choice of fine ales and ciders. If character pubs are your thing then this has to be top of the list in Northampton. Just don't tell everybody though because it's not that big...
b. b.
Still a good traditional Ale house, i recommend, cheers.
