Reviews of St Giles Ale House

Cracking pub. Best ale in Northampton in my opinion. I had a pint of cherry mild, although I can't remember the brewery I'm afraid. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and a convivial atmosphere.

Excellent local pub/bar with a great courtyard garden and some of their own beers on tap!
K. C.
Great little bar to visit with real ale too no loud music so you can have a normal conversation hosts are great too.
A. H.
Great selection of local and regional ales, good pork scratchings too. A few smoky whiskies would make this place even better though!!
P. W.
Excellent real ale & cider bar, friendly staff and customers & fairly centrally located in Northampton. Resident pub dog is very friendly, especially if snacks are about! Snug one small room with a bar, plus a nice secluded back beer garden for warm summer days. Serves normally local (ish) breweries such as Potbelly, Framework, North Cotswolds plus some from further afield. Real cider is normally from Harfields Cider.

Excellent ale selection, nice, quirky atmosphere. Only shame is that the only toilet is st the bottom of steep stairs so isn't accessible for disabled people.
P. F.
Lovely small traditional pub in the town centre, real ales superbly kept!
K. C.
Nice little place popped into last week staff are friendly as is the dog.
A. B.
Great little bar with good selection of well kept real ales. Small snack style menu but food is excellent. One of my favourite pubs in town. Good atmosphere and nice place to chill and chat.
R. Z.
Great little place with good selection of real ale and cider, which has broadened out to a small selection of gin, wine and now, a nibble to eat. With a nice size (pretty) garden and really helpful and sociable staff.
S. T.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, excellent range of drink. Food is simple but well done and tasty

Very new to the area, did a Google real ale pub search. Found this place
Good good ales. Lovely pub.
Going back as soon as I can
B. i. B.
Very large range of beer and ales. Nice wine and cheese tastings too.
K. S.
Good selection of real ales

Wonderful atmosphere with great selection of local real ales. The selection of beers on offer is constantly changing, so you'll always have something new to try and I find this a great way to discover new favourites. It's like a whole beer festival crammed into one pub, that you can discover six beers at a time. I love going for a drink here, always finding and tasting great beers that I would otherwise never have known existed. Cannot recommend it highly enough, definitely my favourite place to drink in Northampton
D. I.
Fantastic little bar, really great that he made it through the pandemic, visited for the first time on Saturday in 18 months and the beer is just as good as I remembered, looking forward to the next visit!!!
M. S.
Fantastic pub, amazing service, lovely atmosphere and great beers.

Another tiny pocket of Northampton worth a visit if you fancy a proper drink. There's a massive variety of drinks, a wholesome, relaxed, atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff. Staff are also incredibly accommodating, often going out of their way to help customers or get in unique or eccentric drinks for people to try.

Friendly cosy atmosphere, good selection of ales and ciders on tap. Quite a small front room so not particularly buggy or wheelchair friendly but the regulars were friendly and chatty and we felt very welcome.
Whiskey-matured cider was tasty with a real hit to the back of the throat at the end from the whiskey casks or was matured in, apologies I forget the name.
A.
Great local Ale House. Well worth a pint with Ale drinkers of many English locations.
A. W.
Good selection of craft beers.
S. M.
Always a lovely evening. Great choice of ales. Warm seating outside. Love this place
C. P.
Great little pub selling proper ales.
Alot of local ales and small breweries.
Gins and wines are also available
Traditional pub no music so easy to talk and make conversation
C. B.
A good beer selection, but seems a strange venture to create a run-down-pub-looking bar in an old shop. It's not like there are no good beer pubs in the centre of Northampton. Discount for CAMRA members.
P. B. -.
The little place is brilliant. No music, No annoying sports on tv, No gambling machinery. Just a warm friendly welcome and fantastic 'Real Ale'.
It makes a change to find a pub you can sit in and contemplate the days thaught's or read your magazine.
Really enjoyable.
So if you want a 'No nonsense' pub.
This is it.
V. L.
Awesome little pub with great variety of real ales and an epic atmosphere

Sat in here right now as I write this, best ale I have tasted in a long time, very friendly people, the 2 lads behind the bar always make u feel welcome. A proper old style bar with proper people and proper beer 🍺 👍

What a little gem of a bar. It's cosy, the landlord is a Ben Folds fan which is always a good thing and is dead friendly and chatty. There is a great pub dog, Stella who has her own Facebook page and has a nice little party trick. They serve only real ale in jugs (and some cider and prosecco). Well worth a visit.
A. O.
I enjoy popping in for a lunch time pint when I am in town. Always a good selection of ales and a discount for CAMRA members. No piped music. Well worth a visit if you are in Northampton
