We’ve visited for 3 Sunday lunches over the last 7 weeks which shows how much we love it!
The front of house staff are absolutely wonderful; helpful, professional and kind especially when visiting with my disabled dad 2 weeks ago.
The food is spectacular, every element, every time. The quality of meat (we love the beef and the lamb!) is exceptional and the accompaniments delicious.
The ambience and relaxing atmosphere too off what we always know will be a fabulous time….our favourite place to be for Sunday lunch!
Thank you to team The Sheaf!

AMAZING food and great pub! Bar service was impeccable on Mother's Day! Luke and the team are second to none. Well worth a visit!

This pub is so welcoming - the lad behind the bar was so friendly and helpful. Great burgers and beer. We'll be back and you should try it too!

Post-covid: as good as below but now with added takeaway and garden, plus a sensible one way system. Special brunch menu was Amazing and the seasonal menus are always great. Book in or miss out!
Pre-Covid: Lovely, friendly, relaxed restauranty pub with excellent service. Delicious, beautifully presented food to suit a range of tastes. Fantastic selection of drinks including local craft beers, cider, soft drinks and gin. Staff were flexible and accomodating to meet the needs of our group, including children. Even drinks available for the well behaved dogs in the bar. Highly recommended: eat, drink and be merry!

We had a lovely meal here the other week. The waiter couldn't of been more welcoming and attentive. Also a first class local ale on tap! We will be back.

Thank you Luke, and your team, for making our Sunday Lunch dining experience such an enjoyable one. We couldn’t fault the food, I personally have never enjoyed such tender beef anywhere else; the wide selection of vegetables couldn’t be faulted either. We’re looking forward to visiting mid week to sample some of the other dishes from their menu. It’s a real pleasure to be able to recommend The Sheaf; beautiful tasty food, lovely surroundings and great hosts.
See you again soon

This is a lovely little pub in West Haddon. There is always an interesting menu with the food cooked to a very good standard.
Whilst they don't offer a child menu they will adapt nearly anything on the menu for them, which means they get interesting food, not just the normal fish fingers and chips!
Pricing is reasonable for the quality of the food. Staff are polite and friendly.

Great little pub. Went with a couple mates after a long walk, making in time for lunch but 20 minutes but bar man was welcoming and conversing with us. Nice touch to any pub.

Well worth a visit. Take pride in their food and local produce. One of these little hidden gems if you let the chef talk and not just order the box standard burger chips. A pleasure to eat. A staff who enjoy their work. You will not be disappointed.

Delicious meal in this really lovely village restaurant. The manager went out of his way to cater for our needs, particularly 2 of our group being vegan ( thank you Luke). Going again very soon.

First visit here since the currant landlord took over and after hearing nothing but rave reviews was left a little disappointed.
First off the transformation from how the pub looked from the last time I visited was outstanding it looks modern and cosy and welcoming and I'm sure the addition of the outside seating is great on warmer nights.
We where greeted in a friendly manner and showed to our table but after this the service wasn't great. The waitress didn't ask how steaks were meant to be cooked until after we brought it up, felt a little slow and inattentive especially as there where only four tables in the dining room. I massively appreciate that when staff are wearing masks it's hard for them to get a bit of personality across and make it feel special but tonight it felt particularly robotic. It also to ok a while for our drinks to arrive that we ordered when the main courses started to arrive in fact we had almost finished the mains.
They seemed to be following all the covid guidelines well but at no point did we get the "please could you wear a mask while moving around the pub" speech that is pretty much the new normal at the moment.
But unfortunately it was the food we felt the most disappointed with. The pork belly starter the pork was dry like it had been cooked originally at a to high temperature or reheated for to long. This was excentuated by there only being two very small smears of the apple source and the top of the belly being trimmed of all the fat and skin that would help keep it moist. Compared to the other starters of the chicken Bao bun and the halloumi it also looked pretty small when next to them and extra little tiny square of pork and spear of asparagus wouldn't have made it feel overly genourous.
For the mains we had the slow braised venison. Venison very dry and bland was dying for some of that braising liquor to be reduced and mixed back through the meat to keep it moist and give it a bit more flavour. The beetroot was a under done but not inedible, the mash was the best part beautifully seasoned and smooth. The gravey however if you are going to be pretentious enough to call it a whitly Neil jus it's got to taste better than a weak bisto which unfortunately it did.
The picanha steaks where both pretty tough to the point we had to ask for steak knives to cut them. The tempura on the mushrooms was tough and chewy not light and crisp. The "truffle" and thyme chips had no flavour of truffle on them and were not particularly great chips. The puddings the brownie was not a brownie it was warm chocolate cake and the sticky toffee pudding was more of a toffee sponge then a traditional toffee pudding neither where good.
Portion sizes where good (apart from the pork starter looking a third of the size of the rest), you could get three courses comfortably but didn't feel small either. If it had all been executed a little better it would definitely feel great value for money to probably slightly cheaper than most the good food pubs in this part of Northamptonshire. The beer was also well kept and it seems like they regularly change them. I was also impressed with the amount of local produce on offer.
I hope the Sheaf takes this as somewhat positive critasism I am aware I have been particularly harsh but having heard nothing but great things it for me did not live up to it. That said with a little more training out front and attention to detail in the kitchen I don't think it would take much for them to be a 5 star pub.

The food us awesome. Might be a bit pricey, but when you're trying to deliver great food you have to get the best ingredients the price will be a bit more. Most of which I believe are locally sourced. Relaxed atmosphere. Need slightly more comfortable chairs.

Great place. Great service. Nice local ales.
The limited menu would benefit from an alternative full meal to the steak though 👍

Oustanding food and great hospitality with regularly rotated guest ales. This pub has done great things for the community during Covid-19 offering delivery and takeaway services. You wont be disappointed!

Lovely atmosphere, veggie options and service, they go above and beyond to make sure the food is how you prefer, and seem to really care that you enjoy your meal. Would definitely recommend for a lovely meal or for a drink.

A good friendly welcome and a very good place for Sunday lunch in particular. Yorkshires her are some of the best and pretty good value. Be sure to book as it isn't a massive place.

Great pub in a quiet village...very good food. Not sure How many Northants pubs are able to serve a cheese board with a choice of blue cheese. I went for Cashel Blue from Ireland and also got a piece of Reblochon. A nice French cheese, although I must admit, i prefer it in its melted format, over my food, up a mountain in France.
Anyway I digress I also had a chorizo scott egg, which was also good and very popular in the pub. My girlfriend had the chocolate fondant, also very good and as it should, oozed chocolate from its centre.
This was washed down with a Guiness or 2.
We will be back soon to have one of the amazing looking roast dinners. We can't wait.
