R. B.I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the staff at the Wig and Pen. I always receive a warm welcome and a smile (particularly from Sophie and Lola !😂). I booked a table in the small booth with the tv during the week. Steph and Hols couldn’t do enough for me and although my team never won, I felt I should write this review. Thank you again for a brilliant service - will recommend the Wig to my friends, kind regards, Scottish Ronnie! 😊
K. C.Lovely place, first time visiting for live band and was a good evening only dropped one star as one of our drinks (Guinness) was left once topped up on the drip tray and we have to take it for ourself as seemed to be forgotten about.
B. M.The Wig and Pen is not what it use to be the beer is far to expensive but it is a good looking pub and the beer garden is nice. It's a good meeting place but not for a day out because of the cost of drinks

J. W.Paid my first ever visit yesterday. Obviously due to restrictions we were seated in the garden, but it's such a lovely spot. You don't feel like you're in the centre of a town. The music was spot on and there were plenty of staff members buzzing around to keep everyone happy. The ladies was clean and well stocked, and I had a great few hours. (Not in the ladies!!)

r. h.We've been using the wig n pen ( black lion) for over 50 yrs and it has always been a hub for live music. These current times have made it difficult but the wig tries it's best. Keep it up and keep the musical diversity. Well done 👍

Slightly rude doorman who was trying to insist on his own interpretation of covid measures, then went and shook hands with a number of other customers!!!! M. L.One of my favourite pubs in Northampton. The Wig has a vast array of excellent beer and spirits, friendly staff and excellent food. It can get quite busy so sometimes it's a bit of a squeeze on the weekends as it's a pretty small pub. The covered garden is great all year round 🍻

Edit: it's now a McManus pub and the drink and food has gone really downhill. A real shame
R. G.You should try it. Sadly our visit wasn't brilliant but it wasn't bad either.
We had Sunday roasts and they were beautifully presented and quite differed in the way they were presented on the plate but sadly they were child and when we asked for them to be warmed they came out slightly warmer but now hot.
It's a nice town pub, the staff were lovely and there was live music which was very good. The beer was good.

J. M.I had an enjoyable night out here. The staff were competent, but we're not too keen on me being tea- total. Apart from that, I still enjoyed the night. I especially liked the 80's theme( music, posters). It seemed quite popular and attracted a fair crowd. A big screen TV in the back and garden area, so you could sit outside. Music can play a little loud.

A. B.Really friendly staff in a great central location. We saw a live band (Last Orders, now known as NRG Express) who were fab. I believe they try to book live music here as much as possible. We had a lovely meal of ham, egg and chips which was fairly prices. We will definitely be returning!

A. P.A very enjoyable afternoon spent in this lovely pub, with an excellent selection of drinks and an impressive beer garden. The food here was generously-portioned and fairly priced, though they have fallen into the trendy habit of serving food on bits of wood instead of on plates. However, when the food is as tasty as it is here, it is hard to argue. A pub that comes very highly recommended, and has a strong reputation in Northampton for being a great place to drink.

Really nice Sunday lunch, live music and good for sports but doesnt over power the pub unless it's a big event. Would recommend if you want a chilled pint during the week or early on the weekend but will get busy on a Friday and Saturday night.

D.From the front seems a nice small traditional pub, but it surprisingly also has quite an extensive rear courtyard beer garden. With larger tables, evening lighting & motorised awnings that can cover the whole area.

M. R.Don't be fooled by it's subtle exterior and proximity to the council building, The Wig and Pen is a heavy hitter of a rugby pub, and it is shoulder to shoulder packed on weekends. Thankfully it has a large covered and heated garden area that is more than capable of hosting the lovely clientele. Highly recommended if you're after a social pub atmosphere.

C. C.I sort of like this place and it has a good beer selection plus they show a lot of televised rugby but there are some right big heads drinking there. The beer's not much more expensive than in the rest of Northampton but you might think that some of them believe they're in The Ritz.

Big screens showing Northampton Saints brought a rugby crowd but another (smaller) screen was also showing the football. The smaller screen had more people in front of it!
All in all though there were more people paying attention to neither and just enjoying a laugh and one another's company.

Been a few evenings and while busier its still a similar vibe - warm and friendly, great for group. There's a pretty good selection of ales and other drinks to choose from and the food is lovely - big fat burgers of all varieties, plus more!

Usually shows sport on the multiple tv's and particularly rugby - Northampton Saints matches when shown. Covered outdoor area featuring large screen tv's is also a great feature.

J.No night out in Northampton would be complete without a visit here. It does tend to get busy though, and their choice of music sometimes (dodgy live guitar bands) leaves a lot to be desired. Still, the staff are friendly, and the drinks cheap enough for a town centre pub.
