Reviews of Pear Tree Inn
C. B.
Not what I was expecting inside - this place is such a cosy treat!! I can’t recommend their food as they have a limited selection and nothing gluten free, so not good for me for eating, BUT the atmosphere inside is something else!! Perfect for a drink or two. Gets very warm next to the open fire so if you sit there bring layers. And it is ✨super✨ dog friendly. A little small but great for a book and a drink on a quieter Monday. Open mic nights are Tuesdays so it’s busier then!
Emoji review: ❤️🔥🎼🍺🐶🐶🐶

I really like this place. The owner, Norway the dog, the interior etc is fab. They make a big effort across lots of parts of the business. Recently, though there’s been some really dodgy staff and (15 bloke strong) uni bar crawls crashing in. I went in for a quiet pint and the barman was licking his fingers (in a gross not really aware how gross it is way) and didn’t know about a basic question to do with their beer. He was young, no problem. But just because you’re young it doesn’t mean you can just assume everyone is ok with a bit rough around the edges. It’s tricky when you like a place so much, but it’s not enough to keep me coming every time.

The staff were so friendly, plus the dog was super cute ❤ also a massive thanks to the person who ran to buy more coffee when I asked for a latte, they were incredible. Plus the food was absolutely gorgeous, would definitely reccomend popping in if you can 😊
G. S.
Really lovely staff - we came after our friends married and they were just fab. We were a big group but they did their absolute best to sort us out with food and drinks. They also have a stunning huski called Norway which was a great bonus!
H. S.
We had a fantastic evening there last night, we arrived without booking and the friendly staff accommodated our large group. The food is fab with lots of different choices on the Menu. Thanks for making my friends wedding evening special.

The old Lillie Langtry now a student / teacher bar city end of the golden triangle.
Well frequented with the limited indoor space and most of the extended outdoor seating full most fair weather days.
Not a grand choice of beers due to the very small bar.
No pool any more but no room for it anymore. Much more civilised than in the past and still a landmark of Norwich.

Just moved to the area and this pub!!!!!! Absolutely brilliant 👏 Foods amazing, atmosphere is incredible 🙌 What a gem and right on our door step! The owners are wonderful 😍 Beautiful family and their lovely dog Norway is to cute! X
My brother came over from New York for a visit and I took him here. In hes words..
I wouldn't go anywhere else! What a great pub and he LOVED the steak pie! 10 outta 10! If your here for a visit, come to this pub! You won't be disappointed 🙏💞

I absolutely love it here. The staff are all wonderful and friendly. The atmosphere is fun and lively and I've never had a dull time here. The owners are the real heart and soul of the place, they are so warm and welcoming and really care about their patrons. The food is delicious and there's plenty of veggie options. There's also a beautiful pub dog, cute little outside tables and a cosy fire now the weather is getting cold. Honestly my favourite pub in Norwich!

Lesley the Landlady so Welcoming as were the Staff also. Great atmosphere very Friendly would Highly Recommend

The best pub on unthank road. Nick, Lesley and the rest of the bar staff are always very welcoming. Food menu is very good! *****
B. B.
Lovely atmosphere although food wasn't being served when we visited, however, it was late Sunday afternoon.
S. C.
Great little spot to have a drink and some delightful food on the side. We really enjoyed making use of the card games provided and the Funk soundtrack in the background was awesome! They provided us with a taster of some cider before buying and the service was very nice.
Table was a little messy but we did choose to sit at it. I cant really knock this place. Originally 4 star but 5 dispite our choice in a place to sit.
Would recommend for a few drinks before hitting the town. Or a small date with a romantic acquaintance.
J. C.
Good atmosphere, staff very polite. Wasn’t much choice for food but the drinks made up for this.

Absolutely beautiful find - so many people and very good atmosphere. This place is genuinely loved and it really shows. Still true 6 months later!

Friendly and welcoming staff. Always a great place to pop in for a pint.

Lovely pub, OK beers, food wasn't great though, the stir fry beef was so salty it was almost inedible
A. B.
Best place to hang out with friends, bring your own food if kitchen is closed.

Pear tree is such a lovely pub. Friendly & welcoming to both students and locals in the area, super cosy vibes in the Winter and a great place to sit outside in the Summer. Bar staff are so lovely! They've also put tons of effort into making as much space as possible for people to visit outside during covid which is massively appreciated by everyone :) the chips are really tasty and they come with garlic mayo & ketchup which is yum, + they have some great beers on tap!
A. B.
Been to this pub many of times, always has a great atmosphere and lovely people - my partner and I had dinner the other evening and have been meaning to leave a review, Niall stood out and made us feel truly welcome! Thank you very much guys. Highly recommended 🔥⭐️

Excellent new pub. Recently taken over by a lovely couple. Serves a great wine and spirits selection and apparently will soon be serving food as well. Only been open a short while but I've had a few enjoyable evenings here already. The owners are friendly and engaging. Would definitely recommend.
G. S.
What a lovely pub this is! and the people who work there are great, I was served by Niall, and also a Emily later that evening, both very welcoming, attentive and chatty which I love, brings a nice homely feel to the pub, would deffo come back again and also try the food! thanks again guys

First visit to The Pear Tree. Seriously impressed with the social distance measures, anti bacterial cleaning at each table between guests and friendly staff. Ollie and Kayleigh were delightful. Very reasonable prices and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be visiting again soon. Loved the atmosphere. Well done Pear Tree.
J. B.

P. E.
Great food, beer and staff. Chilled bar!
C. M.
Small pub with lovely atmosphere. Roaring fire in winter. Small but good selection of food and beer. Only had one dish on menu when we went, but was a delicious stew and bread. We'll be going back!
B. M.
Nick and Lesley run a welcoming, warm, beautiful pub- a home from home!
Our very favourite thing to do on a Sunday is order their fantastic roast with friends then migrate to the sofas next to the roaring fire.
Can not recommend enough.
S. S.
Such a wonderful pub! A complete gem. Might be my favourite pub in Norwich. The owners are so ace, such a lovely atmosphere, so pretty. We are lucky to have the Pear Tree.
N. T.
A fantastic place to unwind-very relaxing atmosphere. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. Thank you!
H. S.
Quality local pub on Unthank Road run by wonderful folks.
Clean, good booze, and good food. Nice outdoor deck area too.
What more could you ask for
S. T.
It was so busy which was wonderful and about time that we all get back to normal
C. O.
I love the Pear Tree Inn. The owners are welcoming and helpful. They have cards and dominoes on the tables. The decor is stylish but relaxed. It's child friendly but also sophisticated. I would now head here instead of going further into the city - thank you.

Part 1 ( click on my icon for part 2)
I have often considered writing a review for my wonderful little local, but as with many of these things never found the time to do so. I have, however, been jolted from my lethargy by the review posted by a Mr Robins. Not only did I find his review unfair and mendacious I was actually there and witnessed the unfortunate events and would like to set the record straight. I am, self admittedly, a huge fan of this delightful and charming little inn, but pen the following in good conscience.
The gentleman named above did indeed order two hot chocolates at the bar on a busy Friday night and Lesley (Landlady) set about preparing them. Unknown to Mr Robins Lesley heats the milk for hot chocolates on the stove in the kitchen (I know, almost Dickensian). Whilst doing this she also served a few customers. About 10 minutes later Lesley is back in the kitchen finishing the now infamous hot chocolates. Mr Robins returns to the bar asking after his beverages, Nick (landlord) said “they take time.” To which you, and I might add a tad rudely, replied “what, to boil a kettle?” The first fact you got wrong in your review. To which Nick asked, “what did you say?” And you replied, “ does it take ten minutes to boil a kettle?” Maybe just an apology at this point and a simple, how long will they be? would have been more prudent. Nick was quite annoyed by this and in my own and my colleagues opinion, quite rightly so. He returned your money and asked you to leave, which you did, laughing as you went in a manner that reminded me of Vincent Price from The Pit and the Pendulum.
Those are the simple facts of the matter and if it had been left there, then fair enough, but you didn’t. So let me reply to your comments, including the ones you edited out after being caught out on a falsehood.
You said the bar is a bit rough. I love this one. If it was because myself and J turned to look at you it was only because we wanted to know who was acting in such a rude manner. I shall now run through just a small sample of the locals who frequent this lovely establishment to give some context. Myself an archaeologist and small business owner, J, who was sat with me that evening, an excellent joiner, R, solicitor, S, her partner, works with children with cancer, S lectures at UEA, K who works with vulnerable families and children, P another local businessman with charitable leanings and on it goes. You must have truly feared for your safety amongst such dangerous types. As Obi Wan Kenobi said “you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.” Another brilliant piece of fiction.

I think it only opens after 6pm but it is popular and has a very cosy atmosphere inside. There is a good seating area outside by the Unthank Road. Prices are about average for a place in the Golden Triangle. If you want cheap your only option is the Bell (Wetherspoons)
G. S.
Lovely vibe, nice to see this venue finally taking off! Hopefully they'll stay :) Lovely vibe, beautifully decorated, family owned - who are all super friendly! Would love to see what food they're going to bring out soon?!

After various incarnations the building on the corner of Unthank Road and Park Lane has returned to being a fantastically friendly local pub. It also has the bonus of opening later than most pubs - certainly outside the inner ring road.
