Walked in without booking on a Monday lunchtime, friendly welcome, seated in a cosy restaurant area with open fire, perfect as it was a very wet and cold day. Very friendly waitress, great knowledge of the food, went for the seasonal offer and was not disappointed, absolutely amazing lamb burger and the hot chocolate and cappuccino cake was delicious. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going again! (Which will be very soon as I left my hat there!)

Dropped in for a snack and a pint on a quiet Monday. The "ordinary pub burger" was arguably one of the most delicious, well trimmed burgers I have tasted in 77 years. The young lady at the bar was absolutely charming and caught a perfect note of welcome and good service. Menu looked really interesting and the lunch deal good value. I shall definitely return for a more formal meal, of which I have high hopes. Many thanks for such a pleasant experience.

After reading some recent negative reviews we were a bit apprehensive, but we had a lovely experience and the food was great. The mainly young staff were attentive and courteous and our group of 8, plus a baby were all pleased with our meals. The steak was cooked perfectly, veg burger and tofu halloumi style salad were very tasty. The coffee and chocolate brownie was huge, with large chunks of fudge and really tasty...enough to share between two. All food was hot, well presented and all adequate portion sizes and reasonable value for money. As an added bonus, there was live music and BBQ, with a mini beer festival in the large garden and the pub was lively, but relaxed and very welcoming. The building itself is attractive and welcoming. The ladies loos weren't plush, but clean and adequate. I'd definitely recommend visiting and seeing for yourself, rather than taking too much notice of negative reviews. Any restaurant can have an off day, but we eat out weekly and this pub was certainly one we would visit again.

OK food and service. Pricey for what it was. Pie and chips: Nice chicken pie, but hard dry chips. Liver and Bacon: great liver, local too. The bacon appeared mostly not local, as in only a little bit of the promised bacon seemed to have reached the plate. Did taste nice. Perhaps felt a tenner too much overall for what we got. Might visit if in the area again, but would try other places 1st.

Excellent Sunday lunch at a great price. Had mixed meat roast, portion size more than adequate both for meat and veg, and really delicious. Friendly attentive staff, with great atmosphere in the restaurant. Will be back when I have an opportunity (visiting from Devon!)

We had a late booking for Sunday lunch, that might explain why my 2 slices of beef were from the end of the joint. Still, it was a very tasty plate full, good selection of veg. They had a full house which probably explains why the service was a bit slow. Kids' roast was unnecessarily large, too much waste. Will go again.

We went out for lunch and although the place was not busy, we were sat in a room away from everyone, which was not very nice. It took a long time for our food to arrive, which was tasty but not as gastro pub as we expected. All in all not the best experience.

Lovely picturesque pub. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. We had 3 children in our party which were well catered for with kids menu and a high chair that was available. Even though we had bit of a wait for our food, this would have been overlooked if we then had not had to experience the rudeness of a member of staff. She spoke to a member of our group for having a vape. If a customer is doing something they do not allow then there are ways of dealing with this politely. Not the way she dealt with it. She was extremely rude and spoke to our family member like she was a child. Her poor attitude continued when she served dessert. The filthy look she gave to members of our group was totally unneccessary. Why is this person working in a customer facing role when it's clear she does not have qualities required for this position. On this note, we are unlikely to visit again. Such a shame she had to spoil a 90th birthday family meal. Date of visit:

Very underwhelmed. The food was mediocre, some of the veg was undercooked while the cauliflower cheese disintegrated when you put your folk in it. Then they messed up the bill at the end. Not impressed plus it was cold as appeared to be no heating on.

I got a cheeky burger and fries from this absolutely jaw dropping pub of whom contains mightily friendly staff. Well cleaned bathrooms and drinks came quick and fast. I will be recommending this to all of my friends if they happen to be in the predicament of needing food in the area. Overall 10/10 I would give 15/10 if I could LOL.

Had a meal here with friends on 23rd February 2022. I ordered the burger with chips and it was lovely, the chips were the best I have tasted in any restaurant. Staff were friendly and characterful! Had a couple of pints of " Granny won't like it" real ale and was pleasantly surprised with the fact that it had a proper "head", just like back home in Yorkshire, and was superb. My only niggle was that I didn't get a chocolate with my Irish coffee but was told that would be rectified for my next visit.

We pre-booked a table. All 6 of us met up outside and were met at the door by one of the friendly staff. We were shown our table and our orders were quickly taken. The staff were very knowledgeable about both the food and drink on offer. We had a very pleasant stay, the food and drinks were excellent. We all enjoyed the banter with the staff, who responded accordingly. We are likely to make this a regular visit.

Food is nice but on the expensive side for an ordinary pub, no bar menu so not a lot of choice for a quick snack but the food is tasty. Could do with someone with more experience behind the bar or the chap on his laptop to get up and help out when it gets busy.

We booked into Chequers for Saturday evening meal, unfortunately we hadn't been put in the book, however, they did find a table, my husband had Liver and mash, he said it was the nicest liver he's eaten in a long time, I had the vegetarian pasta,it was delicious, the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient, will definitely go again next time we are in the area.

Great to see the new owners doing well. They have brought in local drinks of all kinds to help smaller businesses. The food is moderate price but you get a very good portion which makes the price worth it. Really recommend, this is one of my favourite local country pubs!

Mixed bag. My curry dish was £17, meat was chewy, rice was over cooked sticky mush and flatbread undercooked dark patches of undercooked dough. Curry had flavour, ate that. Chicken burger ok, but bottle of processed sauce poured on it. Bruschetta kids meal tasty but chips undercooked. We would go back for a drink but not food. We are surprised by the rave reviews but we didnt take note of the poor ones that also mention undercooked / overcooked food. Surprised the chef sent out the curry meal, can only assume it was chefs day off and someone covering. It wasnt one meal that went wrong, it just wasnt good enough all round, esp for the prices charged. Nice setting.

We visited the Chequers on Sunday 16th Jan 22, I cannot tell you how pleased we were with the warm friendly welcome to the lovely setting within the pub. We decided to go for the beef Sunday roast and i can only say it was the best I have tasted for a long time, the veg was cooked just right for me and the roast potatoes were perfect, I cannot complement the chequers enough for a lovely meal, we will definately be going back soon. congratulations to the chequers on a great meal

Very nice food, but the service was very slow. We had to wait around 20 minutes before our food order was taken and then it was a further 30 minutes before the food arrived. As for getting the bill at the end, I honestly think we could have crawled out without paying and nobody would've noticed or cared. A real shame, the burgers, roast dinners and fish and chips we had were brilliant. Just let down by the very slow service.

This is one of the best pubs I have been to. Came to norfolk for honey moon. The Staff were so lovely we just missed the food and the lovely chef made us something anyway and omg so glad he did as we had to come back. Fabulous night at Hainford Chequers...3 generations for a lovely get together. This place is an old favourite and we were sad when it closed, were keen to return under new management and were not disappointed. Staff were super friendly, nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend and will be sure to go back.

I had an impromptu Saturday lunch with my fantastic wife. I was attracted by the thatched roof and Wildcraft beer. I ended up having one of the best meals I've ever had (the Chicken Supreme from the Seasonal Specials menu, it might be off the menu in a few weeks!). Bit disappointed as to where we were seated as we had booked a few weeks in advance and requested a table in the bar, preferred the atmosphere. We were told if it wasn't occupied with a dog walker we could have it. Arrived, table was free, but told we could not book bar tables, so we were ushered into a very small dining area, which my claustrophobic friend was very uncomfortable with. Plus both meals our friends were going to order we're off the menu! Hadn't seen them since before 1st lockdown, so wanted it to be special, it certainly wasn't!

Four of us attended. Nice atmosphere. covid conscious. Friendly staff. Been several times. Best Roast around normally. I would say this Sunday they had a different chef. Roast potatoes always home made crispy, proper meat juice gravy, loads of meat,nice veggies Always have a long wait for food. around 45 minutes. Today roast potatoes were frozen ones, veg not cooked very well, not meat gravy. Meat as always plentiful. and tasty. Need other chef back, and more staff to make the service much quicker.

Been away for a weeks vacation in Spixworth Village Norfolk. Have found this wonderful cottage restaurant/pub on the web, and visited twice. The reviews give it credit where due. The service on both occasions was second to none. Great waitresses who give you the customer service as it should be. Lovely Country pub with a good menu. We went on a busy Saturday night as a large group and the service was great along with the food. Reasonably priced and good portion size with a wide menu covering most tastes including vegetarian and gluten free. I read previous reviews about slow service etc and having visited twice both at peak times there were no problems at all. The alcohol prices are very good and if you want a country pub with a roaring log fire and warm welcome this is the one.

I was taken here for Mothers Day lunch and it was very nice indeed. I have never been here before but most certainly will go there again. Food is excellent with a superb choice on the menu. If I had one negative to say, the portions are too big. Not one of our party ate all their lunch and the children's meal is just too big. Hainford Chequers must have a large amount of waste food and would do well to decrease their portions and maybe reduce their prices. Otherwise no complaints.

Christmas dinner with the girls! Was really looking forward to it, but again there was a misunderstanding with the booking. This send to happen regularly so I recommend checking in a few days before your visit, if, like us, you end up with multiple tables because someone booked you in because they couldn't find your original booking then that's ok but they get so busy it's not fun if you end up with no table. It is worth the effort though as the food is fabulous.

Proper old country pub. The food is superb at good prices. I wouldn't call it a gastro pub as that would insult it, you get really good portions for example the 1lb steak and kidney suet pudding (with veg £15). Yum.

Just had lunch,the meal and service was very good,however felt very uncomfortable seeing the tables set up with glasses and cutlery even the unoccupied ones and after customers had left there was no sanitising done to the tables before they were set out again also the social distancing was not in place.. so with so many restaurants being very particular about the virus at the moment I think we will have to give HC a miss in future..

This USED to be a great place to go with family for a fantastic, homemade, country-pub style meal and I have to say that the food here has not changed. But the management has and with it the service and HEART has DIED. I left this restaurant feeling unsatisfied and dissapointed even after such a hearty meal. My Sirloin Steak was nothing short of sublime, and wonderfully cooked (medium-rare is hard to get right nowadays) the homemade chips were great, and the side of vegetables was plentiful. However, it took OVER AN HOUR for me to get my food. There were barely over 12 people in the entire restaurant and I feel this whole place is LETTING ITSELF DOWN, and must DRASTICALLY CHANGE if it hopes to see the happy nights I recall so fondly in my now distant memory. We thought that the inside of the pub was lovely it is a shame as the service was slow as we waited 15 mins just to order our food and then we had to wait 20 mins to get our food which was a lot of it . I had a burger and it was just mince meat put together they need to know how to make a burger. My husband said that the beer was not that good either but the waitress was polite. We might go back just to have a drink but not to eat there.
