Reviews of The Kings Arms

A proper pub. Great selection for real ale and a great atmosphere when we visited, partly due to the lovely bar maid who chatted with everybody. There are so few pubs like this now. We went in for one drink and stayed much longer than we meant to.
M. T.
The beer great , the staff know their job very cheerful and helpful, the place is very clean and they show sport. What more could you ask for.
They don't do food but are very happy for you to bring food in and will supply plates and cutlery, it is also animal friendly.
It really is a lovely pub and one I would recommend.
A. T.
Batemans Pub but with other ale choices.. Very cosy.. Great beer.. Served by a very friendly member of staff.. She made us newbies feel very welcome.. 😁
A. W.
Proper pub! Slick and efficient service, good beer and great location. Top marks all round.
R. H.
A beautiful old fashioned pub, great welcoming staff. Good selection of. Ales, cider and larger. They do a few bar snacks but are happy to let you buy else where and eat in as long as you are drinking.
M. F.
Vibrant local pub with a good selection of real ale - clean & tidy along with a warm welcome. Steve & Karen run probably one of the best locals in the city
J. D.
A friendly, decent boozer. Sports channels available. Fish and chips can be brought in from the chippy next door.
G. B.
Great pub they have a great selection of real ales. This changes on a regular basis. Good atmosphere more like old fashioned pubs. Food is not sold here, but plate's, cutlery and condiments supplied for use of brought in food. Plenty of seating including outside area with seat's.
W. P.
Good beer and great sausage rolls. Very Covid aware, plenty of sanitiser. Very comfortable, lots of seating both in and out.
L. H.
Food awful but the beer is great.
In covid days you'd think a more reasonable price rather than a fiver for what truly was atrocious fare would generate more interest in those of us going out for beer with a compulsory snack. It's almost a tax which I will pay but will leave the food in future.
N. W.
Lovely pub with great beer, the sausage rolls were a bit special too.
N. H.
Had a great time. Really good beer. Really lovely bar staff. Will definitely go back.

A great little pub on the Hall Road. I think you can bring your own food in from the nearby Chinese takeaway or the Fish and Chip Shop, which is great. Nothing beats a pint with your curry or your fish and chips. On the times I have been here, it has struck me as being a typical local pub. I had an Aspall Cyder, and a pork pie, which was for me, a rare treat. The atmosphere during my visit was friendly and it seemed to be busy in the front bar area. I will recommend it to others if you like a friendly atmosphere.
A. G.
Great local pub, used it for years. Bring your own food, splendid beer (Bateman's tied), busy on home match days. Personally I've always found the bar staff to be perfectly acceptable. Give it a go is my advice.
K. “. W.
Good old fashioned local, great beer and tasty sausage rolls, scotch eggs and filled rolls.

Nice friendly local pub with a good selection of cask beers and ales. Walking distance of city center, so visitable if on a night out. Not certain if they sell food, but are able to bring food in from a take away, and eat with your drinks.
R. M.
Good real ale pub, one of my favourites for a pre-match drink. There and the Coach and Horses. Can get very crowded. Let you bring food in from the nearby chipper which is a bonus.
K. A.
Never less than a dozen ales on hand pumps. Change of hands in 2015 has resulted in slightly strange interior colour scheme and it's not quite the great pub it once was. Beer still good.
J. G.
Great pub. Excellent table service and good choice of beer
K. T.
Excellent pub, very good selection of real ales, and a few ciders too. Very busy on match day, great atmosphere, and the best thing about this place is you take your own food in there :-) and right next door is a chinese and a chip shop.
J. T.
Excellent real ale pub. Good constantly rotating ale selection, friendly staff. Let down a little bit by sporadic food offerings but they will let you bring your takeaway in and even provide plates, knives and forks. I recommend the Golden Fish Bar next door.
M. B.
Excellent pub. Fantastic selection of ale from top UK brewers: Batemans, Castle Rock, Oakham. Locals give the pub a great atmosphere. We'll staffed.
P. R.
Good real ale pub. No food except rolls but can bring fish and chips in from nearby chippy. Great pub. 5 stars.
T. R.
Lovely pub, friendly and welcoming, good beer

I live very close, I love when the weekend comes and I can sit on my balcony and soak in the atmosphere from the pub, I have only visited once to buy a packet of rizla which they kindly obliged despite me not having a drink, maybe one day I will visit because it does appear to be a really nice and friendly pub.

Since changing hands at the beginning of 2015 the Kings Arms has been somewhat blandly redecorated and lost some of its former quirky, cosy character. Ales are still pretty good quality, monthly Wednesday quiz is happily reinstated but not hitting the heights of its legendary predecessor: Rik's quiz was bound to be a hard act to follow! They still let you bring your own takeaway food in and provide plates and cutlery, this was always a big customer attraction for a pub that no longer does food itself. So far I'm encouraged to keep coming.
J. D.
Batemans pub so good range of cask ales. This pub has won a best kept cellar award. Ciders and good range of spirits. Top notch staff
c. s.
Great real ale selection, traditional pub style and spaces lounges with plenty of seating unpretentious and classic boozer at its best
J. S.
Good beers, pleasant bar staff and you can take your own food and dine there, plates, knives, forks and condiments supplied. Great place.
s. w.
