Reviews of The Murderers
P. B.
Lovely beer, unfortunately a bit chilly as the door was open on a cold Spring day. Unfortunately didn't see the "beer tapas" option, three beer tasters for £4:20. Will definitely try that next time as they had a large selection of beers I hadn't tried, including the murderers own bitter.
J. R.
Lovely historic pub with a great beer and cider selection.
m. c.
Good food, good atmosphere, helpful staff and an informative landlord. Highly recommended
a. m.
Its a nice pub but it seems a little run down, it has been here for ages, They dont know how to make a shandy they ended up making it with ale instead of a malt beer. workers dont seem tragically happy to be working which is a shame as this pub 10 years ago was a happier place to go.
J. T.
One of my favourite pubs in Norwich, always with an excellent choice of beer all kept perfectly, cracking atmosphere and the Fish and Chips I had most recently was supreme!
T. P.
Great pub! Fab location but serve diet mixers unless you say otherwise, not great for people wirh kidney issues or, like me, those who dont like them! Ask first
S. L.
Really good friendly pub. Attentive staff and easy to get served despite being very busy.
E. H.
Located just from Norwich City highstreet, this charming and unassuming pub is tucked away behind the Bell, just up timber Hill. Possibly the most BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC pub in Norfolk if not the UK. Stunningly preserved period features throughout, comfortable, warm and a variety of drinks and extremely attentive/friendly staff. Perfect for socialising or enjoying live sports, there are a host of seating areas, many on different t levels of the building. Just the full package, cannot recommend an establishment more highly and strongly suggest you visit as soon as possible.
a. p.
Lovely old pub with a lot of history and character a small seating area outside, well worth a look
G. C.
Hard to find a better pub than this. Great beer choice, cosy seating, shows football (even in the toilet), immense food portions, and a history story for good measure. Once you go for the first time you’ll be back, that’s for sure.
S. D.
Lovely charecterful pub. Happy to accommodate my husband, my daughter & a very lively grandson.
D. S.
bloody lovely pub! great beer, great owners and great place! 10/10 would go to again!
J. H.
Amazing pub with Fantastic history. Thank you to Phil for all the information he gave us. Wish we could have stayed All Day and listened to him. Hope I can get back. If you in the area PLEASE go in you will NOT be disappointed. Plus you can have a DRINK WIN WIN 👍👍
M. C.
Good atmosphere. Traditional pub. A bit pricey but it is in the city centre. Good selection of ales, lagers and ciders. Very friendly and helpful staff.
M. S.
Great place... Good food and good atmosphere... looking forward to my next visit
M. H.
Very nice old pub. Service and atmosphere friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a return trip......maybe several return trips 😜🍻
D. R.
First time in town so I decided to come to a local pub for a fish and chips and it couldn't be more delightful! Staff were friendly and pleasant. Surely I'll come back!
P. S.
With out doubt the best pub
In Norwich
Always has been
Always will be
Great beer live sport
Plenty of nooks and crannies
To sit down in if you need
Somewhere a little
More private
P. G.
Lively place full of very merry Saturday evening revellers. Some of them without a care in the world. Bar staff work hard to serve quickly.
M. T.
Mens toilets always have a wet floor warning sign. Why can't customers look after the facilities and leave clean for others, otherwise a great pub
C. L.
One of the two best real ale pubs in Norwich. Great atmosphere, and always a great selection of ales.
J. S.
Relaxing place to sit out in the sunshine. The outdoor seating closed at 6:30 due to the football but it normally stays open later. They also have great indoor seating.
S. B.
Fantastic historical pub with a very friendly staff. Would recommend for any history nuts.
F. S.
Great pub with lots of cosy little nooks to sit in.
The place has 8-12 cask ales and ciders on, so there's a fantastic selection of well-kept beer. If you can't decide between that many, consider getting a 'beer tapas' of three thirds for £3.80.
D. H.
Now this place is a proper pub. Black oak beams and wood paneling abound, with booths and priest-holes for whatever kind of patron you're feeling.
There's a café attached if you're after a lighter touch, but the pub itself oozes character. Makes you wonder how many eponymous ne'er-do-wells have drank within three ancient walls.
S. K.
Great beer and great staff, highly recommended, brilliant breakfast aswell
D. J.
Friendly staff and a great selection of rotating beers in an amazing setting with old beams.
M. C.
Great place and cocktails were excellent
G. B.
Friendly pub, great atmosphere
G. L.
Really nice interesting, charming pub.
I could spend a day just soaking up the atmosphere. And a few beers.
J. S.
Absolutely fantastic pub. Staff are super friendly, wide selection of drinks and great atmosphere. Generally could not recommend more!
R. C.
Always love visiting this pub with its interesting rooms and range of very good real ale
M. H.
Fantastic food, amazingly well kept beer and friendly staff
C.
As away fans attending a Norwich fixture this place was perfect, made to feel very welcome, thanks all.
r. b.
Great pub always visit on holiday friendly staff !
G. B.
One of the best city centre pubs in Norwich. If you love good beer and sport this is the place for you. Lots of screens showing live sport, even in the loos 👍. The food is great. Loaded chips are one of our favs, goes well with what ever your drinking.
M. S.
We enjoyed a few drinks after shopping. Loved the place
K. l.
Nice pub, nice selection of beers
D. B.
Great pub and atmosphere.
Good selection of draft beer.
Good service. 10/10
A. G.
Dog friendly with a central location. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
J. N.
Lovely place, lots of history, good atmosphere, friendly staff
P. D.
Always a friendly greeting, great food, great ales
H. E.
Always visit the Murderers if we are in Norwich. It is a big place but still manages to be cosy which I love. Had to have proof of vaccine or negative test which I wasn't expecting, but very happy to do that. Friendly staff. A bit cold in there on Sunday, but maybe because they were keeping windows open as advised.
A. M.
Lovely friendly and helpful staff.
Great atmosphere. Would recommend the food and this pub is certainly worth a visit
L. p.
Great atmosphere, lovely sandwiches and good variety of beers
P. H. (. P.
Consistently rated as one of the best pubs in the east, never disappointed with their range and quality of beer served. Plenty of seating, some quiet areas, some with sport on TV. We've had small meals there several times and they've been good, sandwiches and crisps for example. If you love your beer and want to try new varieties, worth a regular visit.
K. F.
Very good food and atmosphere.
R. L.
Have to be honest, popped in for an evening meal to kill time before going to the cinema because the Bell was full. Having said that, I'm delighted I did. The prices are higher than the other drinking establishment next door, but the quality was infinitely higher and there was a large range of alcoholic beverages to choose from. Sam D who served me took the time to find an ale that I would like and delivered really great customer service. Already planning our next visit as the food and service we're so good. 👍👍
P. B.
A warm welcome, a very respectable selection of ales, lagers, and gins (didn't venture round the other side of the bar where more spirits were shelved), and knowledgeable staff. Wholly recommended.
l. 2.
Nice old pub
S. R.
Good food good beer and good staff.
K. M.
Great selection of drinks, proper pub grub..
M. B.
Great boozer in the centre of Norwich. Good selection of ales.
S. H.
Lovely pub, great selection of real ales and lagers.
T. E.
always stop here when in Norwich good selection of beers and friendly service
O. W.
A really excellent pub, and one of the oldest in Norwich. It is clear even from the outside that the pub has a great deal of history. The pub had a great deal of atmosphere and even showed the football. It also had the feel of a traditional English pub which is highly refreshing on the backdrop of trendy establishments. it was also very sensibly priced. I highly recommend dropping in for a pint or two.
S. S.
Always feel welcome and great beers
K. d.
Looks very small from the outside but there is plenty of room indoors. Lovely friendly staff, a good place to get a drink including real ales. A good menu, with plenty to chose from (but not too much)
The food is cooked fresh and is lovely. A good spot to get some lunch. Plays good music and often has live bands. Would definetly recommend 😊
I. A. N.
Nice enough pub in central location. Good range of real beers. Pub food not fantastic (chilli baked potato - potato was very dry, and could perhaps have done with some butter or something). Can be quiet during the day during the week. Good place to stop off during a pub crawl, though.
N. L.
I've always enjoyed the murderers over the years it's kept to the same standard excellent selection of drinks, food is great and the staff are always friendly.not to mention you can watch sports there.
s. c.
A very friendly pub good staff who are very helpful, when I am in the city again I will use it. I would recommend to all.
G. B.
This is a major football and rugby pub. Massively busy during the day and most of the night. Two bars and many interesting places to sit but not a polished place. Lots of atmosphere but hard work getting a drink at the bar and have all of it by the time you get back to your seat. Food poor generally. Baked camembert quite nice
J. B.
I came here for my mum's birthday and the service was great, the food was delicious and we will definitely be back soon.
M. H.
Popped in for breakfast Saturday. Great friendly service as always
C. H.
Friendly staff in lovely old pub..dog friendly..real ales..didn't eat just called for drink but food looked nice.
A. W.
This is my favourite in East Anglia. Been coming here for 20 years to watch football and many other sports. Good beers, great staff, great decor. 6 nations game days are heaving tho, but get in early and you’ll get a seat.
R. C.
A great find in Norwich City centre. Big pub with lots of different spaces. Very good selection of ales.
N.
Pub on an historic hill in Norwich City. Sports pub showing games events but it's much more than that.
Cramped bar area but had 4 people serving when I visited on a Saturday afternoon - with a great beer and wine selection.
It's a bit of a blokes pub but not too testosterone filled but made to feel welcome.
Nice seating area at front of pub where you can watch the world pass if you are into people watching.
Well worth a visit........
L. H.
Friendly and helpful staff. A great selection of craft ales plus extras on the blackboard. A range of bar snacks, lunch time food and mains available. Food tastes good. They also have a blues band on a Thursday evening.
L.
Great selection of ales in a historic pub. Well worth a visit if seeing Norwich. Also easy to grab a seat in one of the cosy corners, as it's quite large inside. Has an "old man pub" vibe - but always seems to be 90's pop music on.
S. F. L.
Cosy pub with timber beams. Good for football watching. Staff are friendly and the service is great. Atmosphere feels inclusive and friendly. Good burger deal with a beer for £9.99 Thursday to Sunday I think.
D. T.
Decent pint of beer, let down by a 45 minute wait for food (Apparently an issue with the elevator?) When food arrived, it probably wasn't worth waiting for.
R.
Had a couple of pints while my wife was shopping. The owner came over to sort out drinks and a quick chat
This is the one place over the last couple of weeks since the new measures are in place that I've felt has been properly organised for having a drink
Nice owner and Brilliantly organised table service
M. F.
Nice and cosy city centre pub, real ales, food and if you are into sports, the myriad of TVs will enable you to watch just about anything...F1 has had a good following here recently (2019)
Multiple levels in the main pub make wheelchair access difficult but there's an upper bar too which appears to be more amenable.
Good staff too
M. W.
Decent range of real ales. Historic place with a good atmosphere. Disappointed with the dessert (blackberry crumble) that was microwaved and took 30 minutes to arrive. Stodgy, and radioactive heat wise! Worth a visit but maybe skip dessert!
A. I.
Very nice pub!
S. S.
Stopped here for lunch and it was delicious with great portion sizes.
The club sandwich was full of grilled chicken breast, bacon, avocado & salad...it was massive.
There's also Great selection of drinks & staff are really friendly
R.
Absolutely great place to drink and eat, superb selection of very well kept real ales, eight or more sometimes to choose from. Food is lovely, proper English pub food. All you could ask for in a city centre pub. Love the place.
B.
The murderers is an institution, great selection of ales beers and ciders and great for sport. The food is basic but hearty the staff are generally nice but it can get quite rowdy, fundamentally it's a sports and ale bar just a very good one. Give it a try.
G. H.
This is one of my favourite places to sit and chill! Staff are so friendly. And. You're covid safe here! Try it. Just once!
A. M.
Great beers and fantastic staff
P. R.
Comfortable warm pub on a cold day. Good food and ale, delivered quickly.
M. T.
Go to this pub most times I visit Norwich. Always have good beer and enjoy a light lunch
J. P.
Took my friend here for a latish lunch...food was excellent as it has been for years but the staff were indifferent and it was extremely cold.
K. T.
Wonderful pub, full of history with good beer and food, very nice staff and great atmosphere. While there saw a young member of staff spend time talking to probably a regular old lady, who he knew by name, she had lunch there, he was so kind to her and gave her that little bit of time that ment so much. When in Norwich will definitely go to the Murderers.
J. W.
Nice interior, good selection of drinks but the falafel burger was a bit half arsed
A. G.
This is a must visit place for tourists, beery ones as well as history ones. Good food as well. The fish and chips had the thickest, crispiest batter I've ever had. Great for me but maybe not for others
i. r.
Lovely pub great choice of real ales
A. C.
Great beer, good food, pleasant atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to sit and have a drink
S.
Excellent gin selection. Cosy feel pub even on a Saturday night!
N. B.
The pub with 2 names...great food and beer. Very busy throughout the week. Shows live sport through year. A little bit pricey but don't let that put you off visiting .
N. H.
Great pub with beer to match. Good place to meet friends for a chat, watch the game and/or food. So much history if only the walls could talk. Well after a few I’m sure they do!
D. R.
It was a quiet night in Norwich and I'm pleased I found this pub. Constable and comforting. What more could you want ?
t.
Just tried the murderers ale and the ketts oak ale. Both in excellent condition as all their ales always are. On a previous visit we had a cooked meal which could not be faulted either. We'll worth a visit any time of day.
K. T.
Good Sports pub, apparently one of the oldest in the city centre. Loads of screens for sports coverage. Great choice of cask ales. Didn't have food but apparently very good. Would definitely recommend!
D. O.
Great pub. Very traditional decor. The food is very hearty and comes is big portions, and if you're looking for British fare, look no further. Great beer selection, too!
B. F.
Great place to stop and watch the Rugby World cup.....excellent beer and staff.
G. C.
Loved this pub! It’s got so much character and a good atmosphere. Went for a couple of drinks - wish we stayed for dinner!
D. S.
Good selection of drinks. Ideal pub for a sports fan, lots of screens showing numerous sports. Only downside is the place isn't huge and because of general popularity gets packed quick!
S. T.
Have only sat and had a drink outside with family before now but decided to try the food and it was fantastic. Lovely tasty gammon steak with egg. Will definitely return there again.
B. A.
