Reviews of Vernon Arms
N. G.
Really friendly staff and I loved the food. I asked for extra custard 'swimming' with my pud and they didn't let me down. All delicious and my first meal in a pub alone and felt very comfortable
D. F.
What a find....out walking around and came across the Vernon Arms...you sometimes know when you walk into a decent proper pub !!
Very friendly staff ...good selection of beer... The food looked great although we only had "cheesie chips !!" . Definitely return and spend longer next time....well worth a visit ...keep up the good work..
J. H.
Lovely cosy pub. We had a game of darts and pool. Not done this for a long time. Can't wait to get back soon.
S. C.
Staying locally we pass this pub going to the beach, what an absolute gem. Plenty of outside seating, inside is a lovely atmosphere with very helpful staff, we arrived at 2.10pm looking for a dinner but the kitchen closed at 2pm..... but no problem they rustled us up two AMAZING beef dinners with all the trimmings, be aware they are shut on a Monday, highly recommend xx

We chose to go to the Vernon Arms because we could not get a table in a neighbouring village and we are so glad we did. The pub is exactly what it says it is. A welcoming environment. This place appears to run like a well oiled machine with great food being delivered as a result. The staff were attentive but allowed us time to enjoy our meal.i never order Pork because more often than not I am disappointed with it. But the pork with stilton and red onion chutney was divine. Would definitely visit again if I were in the area!
B. E.
A pub with a lot of character. Many of the older features of the original building are still visible. Very friendly staff , good selection of beers and the food was excellent with some interesting dishes. Very glad we found it and noted for a return visit.
J. G. M.
Great Food, Brilliant Service. I visited earlier this year and all the staff here were really lovely. Dogs are welcome and he was absolutely adored by people. Welcoming atmosphere, live music, great food, friendly staff. 10/10 🍻
K. F.
Excellent gluten free menu with very pleasant staff that understands how serious being a coeliac can be if you are served the wrong food. Well done too all of you that looked after me and my family last week and also to the chef who prepared our food.we are reasonably local and will definitely be back .
A. C.
Sunday lunch was very tasty, they were even able to accommodate my daughters fussy tastes! Service was fast , helpful and friendly. Husband enjoyed the local beer. Would definitely recommend.
Y. H.
Lovely pint of real ale. Good selection of drinks. Only had a drink but the food that was going to other customers looked delicious. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff
A. G.
Very nice pub in a very pretty village. Friendly staff who recommended some good dishes on their menu. I had the Guiness and beef pie which was delicious and everyone else had the chilli con carne and the kids menu options. The kids chicken Gounod was excellent, a proper chicken escalope sliced up rather than nuggets! Highly recommend the place for a visit. A decent pool table and a darts board are tucked in to the right of the bar too!
m. f.
What a lovely place, cosy and relaxing. Only downside was that our mains took some time to come out but when they did they were delicious 😋 this may be due to they were busy but would definitely come back. Plus glad it was dog friendly
s.
Lovely big open fire. The food was delicious and the young barmaids and waitresses were very helpful and helped with food choices due to my allergies.
We went for a drink at lunch and came back in the evening for food.
The only negative was the older woman with the blonde shoulder length bob. Miserable, abrupt and bordering on rude when trying to talk to her.
Get rid of her and the pub would be highly recommended and the chefs produced lovely food.
s. p.
It has been some time since I was here for a lunchtime, but what a very warm welcome, very festive and the deep fried Brie - OMG it was gorgeous. Will be booking for an evening meal very soon, hope the fire is still well ablaze, super cozy
S. E.
Wonderful food ..staff...and atmosphere...very friendly and accommodating at such short notice. .superb Sunday roast ..and fish and chips...will come again.
A. P.
Visited for a Sunday roast. The food and service were excellent! Would recommend.
M. P.
Welcoming owner.
Well kept real ales.
The only crab I had seen in Cromer.
The crab mornay is recommended
C. B.
Lovely pub in a small , quiet village. 4 real ales on and pleasant staff. The building is a traditional flint structure and befits the surroundings. Shout out to the toilets.
D. A.
Visited the Vernon Arms for a family meal last Friday. There were 10 of us on the hottest day of the year including two kids. The Vernon Arms did not disappoint. Delicious food, great portions, but best of all, wonderful service from the staff who made us feel really welcome.
S. W.
Beautiful home cooked food. Delicious! Lovely outside eating area. Glad we didn't miss this gem even though we nearly missed lunchtime serving. Would recommend!
C.
Friendly and efficient staff. Good beer (try the Southwold) Well cooked and tasty food. We had the potted crab and the baked plaice. Good selection of wines sold by the glass. Prices are a bit on the high side. Stylish and very clean toilets. Book in advance as the place is popular with locals.
C. T.
Very good. Proper pub, good beers, excellent food and super service. Recommend it!
A. B.
Really enjoy drinking and occasionally eating here, generally decent range of ales and food, nice surroundings, looking forward to the next visit 👍
J. M.
Good beer, wine and food with friendly staff. I would recommend this pub if you are staying in tge area.
A. W.
Great place for food and drink, and great friendly staff ,
M. B.
Very enjoyable meal which was piping hot. Two of us had black and tan pies the other had chicken and mushroom pie all served with chips and vegetables. For dessert we had treacle tart, chocolate brownie and ginger, walnut sponge all were delicious. Staff were very helpful. We will definitely be back.
A. B.
Excellent menu at very reasonable prices. Had the "Black and Tan" meat pie. One of, if not the best, I have ever had. Full of chunky beef and an unctuous gravy!! Friendly staff. Only negative was no J20 drinks. Other than that a definite place to go for a drink or a meal.
W. P.
Really nice traditional country pub. Local atmosphere. Very good service. All staff friendly and helpful despite it being a very busy Sunday lunchtime. Food was very good quality, home produced and fresh, served hot to the table and good selection of beers. Not rushed or pressurised to leave the table at all. Definitely recommend and would visit again.
S. R.
Lovely food. Small country pub, book before you go.
R. S.
Lovely country pub. Service was good, food even better, prices very reasonable. There is a small car park at the front but better to go to the back where there is a larger car park.
T. B.
Very nice pie the best I've ever had .warm and friendly staff a must if you are in the area .don't deny your chance to try this place you won't be disappointed
H. A.
Lovely food staff very helpful service good nice and clean
C. A.
We visited while on holiday in the area. Good food and friendly service. I'm sure we'll be back.
J. E.
Wow!! Best Sunday lunch out that we have had in a long time!! The Vernon Arms is very welcoming and cosy. Friendly staff with a lovely countryside atmosphere, home from home for us and I wish this was one of our locals 😍. The Roast Beef was succulent, vegetables cooked to perfection, the best crunchy roast potatoes and huge Yorkshire pudding which is a must with us for every roast in our household!! 😂 The desserts, well!! 🥰 We all had something different as we were spoilt for choice!!, however the no 1by far was the White Chocolate and Cranberry Bread and Butter Pudding!!! 😍 Heck!! , that was lush, my son was very territorial over it.
We will be back at some point as we have friends who live near by and we can't wait!!
Thank you so much for a very memorable Sunday lunch, you have definitely set the bar very high.
Plus we love the fact that this pub is very well supported by it's local community and they should be incredibly proud of what they are doing, especially in this day and age re pandemics and being in a rural setting. It's definitely worth the trip! I highly recommend that if you are in the area to book a table.
🥰

Wow!! Went for a Saturday dinner and was very very impressed. The Black and Tan pie with chips and minty mushy peas was superb. The steak in the pie was all meat that melted on the mouth. Best pie I have had in a long time.
My wife had the Cod and chips and was glowing in her praise of the batter. So thin and delicious on a par with a top London restaurant.
I had the chocolate and Hazel nut bread and butter pudding which was heavenly.
Whoever is the chef here is brilliant
We will be back next year for sure
D. A.
Lovely country pub with parking a bonus. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious food. Tiger prawn starter shared was divine. Sirloin steak melted in our mouths, generous helpings if chips and veg! Yummy array of deserts. Highly recommended.
J. B.
Yeah not a bad pub in the village good wholesome food at good prices
A. B.
Great rural pub with small menu but all home cooked and fantastic quality. Good sized portions competively priced for the area. Friendly staff. Be warned is busy most evenings of the week and it pays to book to avoid being disappointed. Also note car park is really small for the numbers who visit so take care. Would always recommend a visit when in the area.
P. A.
Great puddings, friendly staff, very dog friendly, plenty of parking, book if you want to eat there (dont do food on Sunday evenings or Mondays)
S. E.
Fantastic food, the black and tan pie is a must and the chips are perfection. If you feel the need for a beautiful well priced lunch leaving you fulfilled- this is the place.
P. C.
Excellent. Friendly staff and great food. Highly recommended.
J. A.
Visited late Sunday lunchtime without a reservation but they fitted my wife and I in. My wife had beef and I had pork, both were very well cooked and presented.
Wide selection of drinks, including real ales. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
M. J.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant and pub. Great service. Lovely staff and outstanding cooked food and to top it off live Irish dance music being played on the night we visited . Top bombing!!
B. J.
Based on the amount of 5 star reviews, we had high expectations but in the end a bit disappointed to be really honest. It’s hit or miss depending on meal choice. The steak pie was good but the gammon and chips and Cromer crab salad both fell short. The chocolate brownie was delicious but the treacle tart was a let down. Some portions way too big and others just right. This all said, we’ve tried most of the pubs in the area and this one is the better one so far. The setting was nice, the staff were friendly, it’s just a shame that the food wasn’t that little bit better.
M. R.
We have visited the Vernon Arms a few times for a drink but this was the first time we have had food there. The Sunday roast was delicious and the hazelnut and chocolate bread and butter pudding was to die for. The landlady and her staff were really friendly and helpful.
M.
Wonderful atmosphere and very friendly attentive staff. Very good food with 3/4 of our party very pleased and one that was still satisfactory just not to their taste.
Will definitely come back!
D. T.
Amazing home cooked food and great staff. Very accommodating after short notice for a large table.
K. E.
As we were staying in the village, and had previously been to the pub during an earlier visit, we thought we would go again as loved it last time.
We went on the website prior to going to check out anything we needed to know before visiting, under the current circumstances. As per instructions we rang and booked a table for the same evening.
When we walked down to the pub, all guidance was clear and staff were very helpful. We felt extremely safe throughout our whole visit.
All staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious - cooked to perfection.
As per our previous visits we had such a relaxing evening that we'd definitely go again next time we are staying in the village.
Thank you to all of the staff!!
M. S.
Lovely Sunday roasts. Great service & value for money in attractive pub with open fire & garden. Serves Adnams beer too.
M. C.
Absolutely wonderful. We had the two pies, and they were both sublime. I'd strongly recommend the beef and ale, as they kindly applied beefy gravy to my chips. Also surprise superstar were the proper, homemade marrowfat mushy peas. Excellent service, cosy and spacious. We live 150 miles away and we'll still go back.
J. D.
Lovely meal. Friendly staff. Always good.
M. L.
Brilliant service, friendly atmosphere, delicious food
H. M. K.
Really lovely food, decent portions and very tasty. The staff were really lovely and plenty of anti bac around and good one way system. Only thing I would mention is that the service was very slow, yet it wasn't an overly filled pub. Would definitely go again though
R. W.
Great Black and Tan pie as always! Friendly staff in a nice classic pub setting.
S. D.
Booked for fathers 50th in advance for 10 people. Food all came out at the same time and was fantastic, everyone was pleased. Atmosphere very welcoming and everyone enjoyed themselves.
B. B.
Adhock visit after taking dog for walk. Only space available garden area, which was enjoyable due to sunny weather. Entertained by various cars trying to park. Helpful and attentive barstaff during visit. Good quality food, of reasonable amount, not to much, and value for money. Recommended a visit.
D. M.
In the immortal words of Tom Waits, "Uncle Vernon, Uncle Vernon, independent as a hog on ice. He's a big-shot down there at the slaughterhouse. Plays accordion for Mr. Weiss". The only other Vernon I can think of is Harry Potter's uncle, but the less said of him, the better.
The Vernon Arms reminded me of one of those places we'd stop when we were on holiday with my parents when kids weren't allowed in pubs. Oak beams, probably (I wouldn't know as we never went in), and an interestingly worked layout with the bar pointing away from the door. That whole exclusivity meant that such pubs hold a special place in my soul - if they were too good for kids, then surely they should be a place to aspire to visit once you're old enough! Anyway, when we were kids, we'd have a packet of crisps and a glass bottle of coke brought out to us in the car while Mum and Dad sat and had a good drink indoors.
The Vernon Arms didn't disappoint! On the way back from Sheringham to Bacton, I saw it there looking all quant and lovely, and we just had to stop! The pineapple and lemonade was lovely! It was a warm afternoon, though, so we ended up sitting outside anyway, but the place was beautiful and the beer cold and fresh.
Nothing to do with accordions, slaughterhouses or Harry Potter!
L. F.
Great staff and wonderful food as always.
A. F.
Popped in for some lunch while on hols in the area and couldn't have made a better decision . I had the "Black and Tan " steak and Guinness pie OMG so delish and so filling the chips are proper and the mint peas are yum . The wife had the scampi wich she would highly recommend, we will certainly be coming here again when next in the area .
P. W.
Superb local pub. Great menu and first class food and service. Our car was in an accident and they gave us sarnies at lunchtime and squeezed us in for dinner even though they were fully booked!!
Outstanding service. Thankyou
J. B.
Fantastic pub and very accommodating owners. No official Vegan options on their Christmas menu but after a short phone call the owners were more than happy to provide a 3 course meal which was delicious! Atmosphere and staff were all great throughout. Highly recommended
A. L.
Excellent steak and ale pie. Shame that the pub hasn't chosen to relax masking restrictions and resembles a hospital Covid ward with signage, one way systems etc. Time to loosen up and revert to a "proper pub". There never was any science behind the idea that the virus didn't attack you when you were sitting down, but only when you walked in or went to the loo.
S. P.
Great food, great atmosphere, lovely little pub/ restaurant, live music, no food on a Monday so good night to play pool 😊😁
H. H.
Easy to book and very accommodating.I had Crab Mornay and it was delicious
S. S.
Lovely lunch. Staff friendly and clean facilities.
s. J.
Recommended by our B&B and what a find. Very busy pub and can see why. Staff friendly and premises very clean. Food was excellent and definitely be back when out this wasy again
D. B.
This country pub is a jem, the owners paul and debbie made us feel very welcome. Kirsty and jack who worked the bar and waited on were friendly and courteous, the pub has a range of real ales which went down a treat on numerous occasions during the weeks stay.
The Sunday lunch was second to none which is highly recommended so good we decided to eat there a few times, the ale pie is to die for but there is plenty to choose from on the menu, a must is the cheese cake which is home made by one of the chefs.
Overall the pub has excellent food, family friendly, great atmosphere and great ales well worth a visit.
Thank you to all.
H. M.
Great food and a friendly atmosphere. Very comfortable with open fires to make it feel cozy 🔥
D. L.
Really busy on the night we went but you would never have known. The beer was in prime condition the staff keen to please and the food was excellent. I had a pork steak with red cabbage which was all you could hope it could be, and in a substantial portion. Cheese board was limited but good.
G. E.
Nice pub to visit whilst out cycling.
M. S.
You'd struggle to find a more welcoming local than this. Decent drink selection and excellent menu of top quality food. Attentive staff who buzz around efficiently. Nice open fire. Good that they've kept a pool table and dart board, and not turned the whole pub over to eating like so many do, pushing the locals out.
P. S.
Friendly helpful staff food good large portion
M. C.
Have been coming to the vernon for years and never had a bad meal, always friendly and welcoming, Bella the staffy always gets a pat
R. F.
Atmosphere was oldy worldly, really nice. Service was very good. Food excellent, typical Sunday lunch, we had roast beef and roast pork, good choice on menu. Thoroughly recommend this pub.
S. F.
Lovely village pub, friendly staff and excellent food.
B. K.
Excellent pub. Great fireplace. Will definitely book and go for a meal. Watch this space.
E. M.
Vernon Arms serves a lot of good fish dishes but my favourite is their chicken breast with garlic butter. Had this a number of times and always very good. Good selection of Ales which my husband tends to enjoy. lovely atmosphere and worth a visit if in the local area.
L. C.
Enjoyed family Sunday lunch here. Friendly staff & great atmosphere. Loved the flowers & amenities in the ladies loo.
S. G.
My favourite little pub with great food and friendly staff......best in the area in my opinion
S. S.
We came to the Vernon Arms because where we went first was fully booked. The Vernon said they could give us a table at 9.00pm. When we got there, a group of diddly diddly musicians were playing which added to the atmosphere. There was no difficulty with my having a starter as a main course, nor with our drinking only tap water. Prawn salad was delicious and apparently the Black and Tan (steak and ale) pie was excellent. We were pleased that the first place had been full...
C. A.
Stayed in a local air bnb in knapton and booked a table here on the day. The waitress was really friendly and accommodating, I didn't like any of the starters and asked if they could do me some cheesy garlic bread which they did and portion was huge!
I had the salmon fillet with new potatoes and veg, salmon was cooked really well and had a lovely prawn butter sauce. Good portion of new potatoes and veg came with it. Boyfriend had the pork fillet which he enjoyed but it was quite fatty. We didn't have any dessert as we were stuffed. Overall really enjoyed our meal here, good pub grub with welcoming staff.
Thank you
A. A.
Great pub food and excellent service.
N. M.
Super food, super staff, lovely pub with great atmosphere.
P. L.
A warm welcome, friendly staff. We took chance on a friday evening and were found a table but asked to bead in mind it was booked for 8pm. Well can't complain about that as they made an effort to squeeze us in. excellent choice of children's menu and all the dishes served were appetising and filling. Big garden for us to relax in after eating and for the children to burn off some energy. All in all a relaxing and enjoyable evening.
L. H.
Good food. This is local Cromer crab.
P. W.
Friendly owners and staff.Real pub feel.Good food.....and dog friendly too.

Moved up from London to Southrepps and now live round the corner from the pub. What a fantastic friendly pub. Great food. People from miles away visit the pub. A firm favourite in Norfolk and a must if you are up this way.
C.
Went here for an evening meal. Food was good and service swift. Whole place was full and buzzy.
I. H.
Fabulously friendly and helpful, food was wonderful, hot and large portions , properly lovely pub
R. L.
Great quality food served by friendly staff. Busy lively pub when we visited.
R. G.
Booked in as staying local. Friendly service and great food. Would recommend the ale pie - we all lived it!
B.
All the food is homemade and delicious, the staff are lovely and very friendly and the community there is just as positive. It's a great place to go, always full of reservations which shows how good it is and never had a single problem there.
A.
Lovely little pub, popped in for a coffee and and a drink. Not overly priced with lovely decor, seating was comfy and lots of little areas making it feeling quite homely. Would recommend.
K.
Weird seating arrangement out in the garden! Doesn't feel finished, so ate inside. I had the broccoli and Stilton soup! Man was that cheesy!!! Over all, food is good and reasonably priced but it does lack a pretty garden which is a shame for a countryside pub!
R. B.
Ignore the "review" by Mr. Lincoln.
This is one of the best pubs in this part of Norfolk. Real ale is excellent as is the food and the landlords & staff are very friendly.
It is also very popular which really says all you need to know!
S. R.
Very cosy old style pub. Excellent food (the beef pie is fantastic). Very friendly place with polite and helpful staff. It also has a wood fireplace for those who are always cold 😉
S. B.
Very busy popular pub with excellent food. Hadn't book so had to wait for a table. But was worth the wait. Would recommend the burger with bacon & cheddar cheese.
H. B.
Lovely cosy establishment. Good food and friendly staff. Bonus as it is very dog friendly.
S. R.
Amazing pub with an amazing selection of food, friendly staff, Would definitely recommend making a reservation as it was quite full when I went. Food is Served Tuesday - Saturday. I would go back again without a thought.
L. D. H.
Good food warm and welcoming

Its a beautiful pub in a beautiful place. We found it by accident. We holiday nearby, and we always try and go two or three times in the week. Foods good and reasonable priced.
K. H.
A lovely pub nestled in the Norfolk countryside. Staff always warm & welcoming & food top class. Highly recommended
E. M.
After a bracing walk near the picturesque edge of Norfolk, we had a nice Sunday lunch here. Sat by blazing fire while waiting a short time for a table. Decent portions, everything well seasoned, jolly atmosphere. Kudos to barman - "i'll be with you shortly sir"
A. W.
Great atmosphere good food 👌

Very happy with the service and the food 👍

A party of seven, arrived at the Vernon Arms and as usual the staff were friendly and polite. The meal was beautifully cooked and well presented, and on hot plates (which we like). Excellent value for money, well done to all at the Vernon Arms
R. H.
Lovely local pub with a tasty meal.
P. B.
Asked for a shamrock on my Guinness and got one. Very impressed.
J. C.
Food was excellent as was the service
Been a few times now always very good
S. M.
Fantastic village pub but the landlord should be an extra in the ' Hobbit ' Instead of a good head on the beer, we just saw a good head! Seriously though. Bloody brilliant! Food, beer and ambience superb.
m. t.

Always been a brilliant pub, really tradition little Norfolk pub, the food is really good there as well, and they have also extended the pub now as well, good beer garden too!
J. D.
I wish I lived closer. Great pub with a real 'local' feel. New toilets and dining area has been superbly done and in no way detracts from the original feel of the pub
L. M.
Very nice food, good service. Outdoor seating front and rear. Charming local pub feel, very different to chain pubs.
D. F.
Nice village pub, good food and accommodating as had finished cooking but still did us a nice beef baguette and some salad, nice pint of Norwich bitter to round it off
P. M.
Went for a dinner, was a great atmosphere as they had some Christmas carols on the go and the fires were lit, proper festive! Food was very tasty and the staff very friendly even though it was busy!
g. s.
Nice place, food good. Good service, reasonable price
C. B.
Nicely refurbished village pub with reliably good food. Good, not great. Could easily improve by serving decent chips with its meals.
B. J.
Fantastic food! Atmosphere and service was excellent. We will come back for sure. Booking essential for good reason
S. V.
Great food and great service.
I can recommend the steak pie. But it is very big. Make sure you are hungry 🤓🍺🍽🍻
A.
Absolutely amazing village public, with even more amazing food served. Pool table and dart board. Plenty of seating available. Nice wood burner with sofa area.
A.
Good family pub with a very good landlord and lady friendly helpfull staff but the range of draught beers is a little limited although other is a wide selection of real ales lagers and cider. The only real problem is the landlords choice of ties XXX
C. w.
Great little village pub , well worth a visit everything cooked fresh .
I love my pie and was tempted by the tan and ale pie it was delicious
I would return again and try something else if the others meals are as delicious . Prices good value for good quality food

The Vernon Arms is brilliant 👍
Very friendly staff and always happy to help!
Decent prices for such excellent food 😋

So busy we couldn't get in, but looks great and has a good reputation. You will need to book ahead. Car park is small so you will need to arrive in good time.
G. G.
We had a nice Sunday roast, and treacle tart and ice cream. Adnams beer. What more can you want. Would defo recommend.
B. A.
Great food and friendly staff. Especially loved the ribeye steaks.
C. W.
Nice service. Lovely meal. Wholesome pub grub!
