Had a lovely Christmas lunch today for a party of 17 , tables set up with crackers , staff very attentive , food very good …. Yummy scampi starter . Thank you
S. J.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch .very welcoming and friendly staff. I can highly recommend 👌
C. C.
Didn't realise they didn't serve food on Mondays or Tuesdays so we're disappointed. It's a nice and big pub.
J. B.
Friendly staff, good service and a lovely garden to sit in.
We only had a drink - no food so I can't comment on the menu.
R. C.
Lovely public house with plenty of outdoor seating. Food was plentiful/tasty an very reasonably priced. Staff were friendly.
L. C.
Nice pub, always clean and tidy, friendly staff, decent prices, large beer garden, footy on the tv, there's plenty to like about this pub. 👌
R. T.
Nice pub , staff friendly, football on tv
We had BLT which was good
Beer garden is nice

Was a fantastic pub. Real heart of the Rylands community. Apparently now its run badly. Shame. You loose your locals, you're on the road to ruin.
P. H.
Enjoyed Sunday lunch here a few times recently. All fresh, homemade food (no frozen roasties etc) and friendly, efficient staff. Lunch is £8.99.
They’ve also got a very reasonable weekday meal offering from £5 Wednesday to Saturdays but I’ve not personally tried them yet but definitely intend to!
Place is clean and comfy but nothing fancy but definitely a genuine community local.
K. L.
Stopped by for a pint while my son had footy training. Great service and a large beer garden. Would like to come back for food one day 👍🏻
R. B.
back again to the boat and horses for the northern soul event. Fantastic pub ,great atmosphere, lovely staff. Good menu,Had a bite to eat, the food was excellent. Had a chat with the landlord, great guy. As I said it's a great pub, with so much going for it. People need to come down and support their local establishments like the boat and horses and put money into places like these that are the heart and sole of the community. I will be back again 👍👍
V. R.
Attended a private function but felt a part of the pub atmosphere. Excellent outside safe family friendly large area with plenty of seats and well lite later on. Very wheelchair friendly as well. Staff very attentive. Was my first visit but will definitely not be my last.

Great start to the Oxfam fest at Bost & Horse good appreciation shown to all performing artist;@)

Great live music ...Nice pub
R. S.
Lovely welcoming pub, great beer selection, with a huge stunning beer garden 👌🏼🍻
K. B.
Lovely service, very welcoming, polite, couldn't have done enough for you. The food was yummy but the beef was over cooked for my personal preference, although my friend loved his. And bar missing stuffing we left with very full and happy bellies 😁

Lovely Sunday dinner good price all round happy

Edit: received a call from the owner to discuss my concerns. Very apologetic and advised issues with the website in taking their old menu down. Provided reassurances sausages are locally sourced in Beeston but do buy different varieties - would look into this. Definitely want to support this local business, so fingers crossed my next return they'll be back to their usual 5 stars :)
Disappointed by our visit here today. Been a number of times in the last few years due to living round the corner and always been impressed by service, quality and price. Not so much today. Service still good, but ingredient quality has gone downhill. 3 of us ordered sausages, including one meal where the sausages are described as a particular kind. They were not them, but actually really poor quality sausages, so some false advertising there. Unsure if their 'live" menu is different to what's on the website, but I was really not wanting to eat my lunch (sausage and mash) when it arrived. I work in the meat industry and know first hand the differences in sausage quality.. Didn't want to raise it at the time though as was with family. But I know the other 2 who had the sausages weren't impressed. Kids loved their meals though. Second thing, partner paid the bill and only told me the cost after we left. I think we were over charged but obviously can't challenge now. No receipt was offered, can I suggest this is offered in future? Will return again but not going to rush back :(

Lovely pub with a great function room and garden. Couldn't get a coffee at 11am, so had a beer...

We visited for a two course Sunday lunch and I have got to say it was one of the best Sunday dinners I've had. Portion sizes were excellent, food tasted delicious and the drinks were very reasonably priced too! Staff couldn't do enough for us, they were great with the kids and were so friendly! Cant wait to come back. Thank you again!

Lovely pub very friendly staff
G. W.
Fantastic pub. We held a party here and everything was excellent. The function room is big, has a stage, it's own bar, tables + chairs, dance floor. Staff are all lovely as well. Prices are reasonable and value for money. We opted for the food from Boat & Horses for the party - food was tasty and hot, there was plenty for everyone. Food included chips, sandwiches, chicken bites, crisps, mini quiches and lots more. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone who wants a function room or just wants to go to the pub for a drink. We will definitely be returning!!!
D. L.
Great little pub. Good prices. Only rolls and snacks available but I gather a new menu is coming soon. The bar was fine. Not too busy at lunchtime. A lovely lounge area. Plenty of seating outside and a function room we didn't use but it looked nice. Will definitely go back.
P. S.
Recently taken over by new landlords this pub is very much on the up!!!
Huge beer garden is fabulous for the summer time and plenty of car parking even when they're busy. The refurbished concert hall is a great place for dancing and/or parties.
I new menu has just started and looks great :O)
D. B.
Dropped in for a meal on a Sunday as we hadn't eaten here before. Really enjoyed the food, they had two size options for all main meals which I though was a good idea and the prices were good too. My partner who is vegetarian could see no options for her on the menu but they were happy to make up anything she wanted including veg sausages, nut roast and veg burgers. Very friendly and helpful staff. Will be visiting again.
M. G.
We stopped for a meal there. My cheeseburger was way above usual pub grub - someone put a lot of attention of making sure it all worked together - proper brioche, fresh veg, cheese carefully melted.
The only downside was the serving time, but I'd rather wait for this kind of burger than get a typical one quickly.
C. B.
Lovely little pub. Very friendly staff that couldn't do enough for us. Sunday roasts were plentiful and tasty. A relaxed family experience. Well done all.
R. W.
Not from being round this area, we read the reviews, majority being very positive so thought we'd try it.
First the positives
Beef was tender and Gammon tasty.
Real mash and the hottest item on plate.
Carrots and runner beans cooked to perfection.
Roast potatoes were really nice.
Coke was fizzy.
Prices really quite reasonable and two size options.
The lady serving the Carvery was lovely.
Negatives
Barman gave the impression that we should know how the Carvery works in this establishment, only when told we'd never been here before was we given an explanation.
Most places will give an explanation on arrival.
Gravy was really quite thin (I like thick gravy, I'm aware that it is a preference and others may prefer this type)
The cauliflower cheese didn't look appealing at all, it looked like bits of cauliflower floating in cheesy coloured water, but again others may prefer it this way.
The general vibe of the pub was unwelcoming, maybe it was because we're not regulars.
Wish you all the best and hope comments made will be taken as constructive criticism.

A pub of excellence, selling great beer and now very nice food.
As some one who attends a tabletop games club there it is a impressive venue for anyone looking for one.
The public house is split into 3 parts with the main bar, and small venue place, comfy side room and then a massive venue area and stage.
The Pub also sports a very large beer garden and could easily host over a hundred ad fifty people.
The place has also started to serve hot food which one can say from experience is both very good and value for money.
The side room also offers a range of books, and a console for younger gamers, making a good place for families to make a stop and grab a drink.
G. B.
Very nice Sunday lunch. Good service. A wider choice of desserts might have tempted us to stay longer. Spacious garden and dog friendly.
P. J.
Loved it , proper local boozer!!
Even midweek and not so busy still has a community feel to it. Very welcoming...
A. W.
The owners I believe are new. If they carry on the hard work they are currently putting in, as well as continuing their attention to detail they will be successful for a long time, I'm sure!
Good Luck and best wishes....
G. B.
Used this as a Britstop overnight... fabulous pub, all COVID precautions in place. Landlady, landlord and staff all fantastic couldn’t ask for better service... and the food yum - I had fish and chips and that is the bast I’ve ever had in a pub and my husband loved his curry. Better than anything they allow dogs in and they are made most welcome
H. H.
Loved this pub.. very friendly atmosphere and was most welcoming..

Lovely friendly staff and a clean place to eat..
In a large party, having the Sunday carvery, we were seated in the main function room where the carvery was being served.
The table was set for us and the
staff /management made us feel very welcome.
Our veg was put on the table in bowls plus a jug of gravy for us to help ourselves to. We only got up to get our meat and of course yorkshire pudding and stuffing.
The food was lovely with a choice of small or large plates.
We ran out of roast potatoes but a member of staff soon gave us another bowl full.
Ide highly recommend going to eat or have a drink here.
Its been re-vamped since I last went in.
All in good taste and very modern.
D. C.

Remember visiting this pub in late 1970's whilst with 3 mates on a canal boat holiday.....always think back of how friendly the patrons and staff were.....we played a few games of darts with them......a lot of people seemed to be drinking 'mild' ......I won a joint of lamb in the raffle and well remember a lady named Lou who said she lived at 99 Trent Rd and we were most welcome to let her cook it for us......we had to decline as we were moving on the canal.....Pleased to see the pub is still trading.
s. b.

Me and my partner stayed in the boat and horse car park in our van to go to a show in Nottingham. The pub is really clean, very big and almost seems out of place as is in a little residential area but is beautiful. We called ahead as had seen it on a website as somewhere you can stop over, but we had been assured by Allen (sorry if thats not how you spell it) that he'd be there waiting for us. He was so lovely showing us where best to park in his vast private car park, giving us loads of local info including the best local transport options into town so we could have a couple of drinks. On our return at 23.20 they were happy to serve us a couple more beers before last orders and give us water which we surely needed in the morning. Although they don't serve food during the week (when we asked out of appreciation due to letting us stay so wanting to spend some money ) Allen apologised and offered us some cobs (to which my Welsh boyfriend asked later what these were, sandwiches by the way!) We gave them some money towards the cancer charity they are helping out which hopefully was enough! When we offered it, it definitely felt like it was more than enough! Thank you so much again guys
P.s the garden is huge and the lovely sunny Monday evening we had was so delightful! If you are in the area and it's a sunny day get yourself to this beer garden!
K. B.
Went to a Steam Punk event there. Bought stuff than I ever do. It's a nice place near the fab canal area of Beeston Lock. Many good folks have tried with this place. Hope these ones success. They are doing good so far

Bit odd. Owner is a weird. Was there for a party in the function space, the bar wasn't opened and we were forced to walk down a corridor to another bar shared with the pub. Not enough staff. Made the party disjointed.
